I tried searching around on the Internet for some ideas for how to grow food crops, maybe start some fruit trees under T5 lamps.
Well it looks like just about everyone growing pot uses T5 lamps. I don't have any interest in it. If I don't have time to play video games, or deal with hangovers I sure as heck don't have time to go get stoned like some biblical whore. Call it "Priorities" if you will.

Explained Simply: How an AI program mastered the ancient game of Go "IndyWatch Feed Education"

This is about AlphaGo, Google DeepMinds Go playing AI that shook the technology world in 2016 by defeating one of the best players in the world, Lee Sedol.

Go is an ancient board game which has so many possible moves at each step that future positions are hard to predictand therefore it requires strong intuition and abstract thinking to play. Because of this reason, it was believed that only humans could be good at playing Go. Most researchers thought that it would still take decades to build an AI which could think like that. In fact, Im releasing this essay today because this week (March 815) marks the two-year anniversary of the AlphaGo vs Sedol match!

But AlphaGo didnt stop there. 8 months later, it played 60 professional games on a Go website under disguise as a player named Master, and won every single game, against dozens of world champions, of course without resting between games.

Naturally this was a HUGE achievement in the field of AI and sparked worldwide discussions about whether we should be excited or worried about artificial intelligence.

Today we are going to take the original research paper published by DeepMind in the Nature journal, and break it down paragraph-by-paragraph using simple English.

After this essay, youll know very clearly what AlphaGo is, and how it works. I also hope that after reading this you will not believe all the news headlines made by journalists to scare you about AI, and instead feel excited about it.

You DONT need to know how to play Go to understand this paper. In fact, I myself have only read the first 34 lines in Wikipedias opening paragraph about it. Instead, surprisingly, I use some examples from basic Chess to explain the algorithms. You just have to know what a 2-player board game is, in which each player takes turns and there is one winner at the end. Beyond that you dont need to know any physics or advanced math or anything.

This will make it more approachable for people who only just now started learning about machine learning or neural networks. And especially for those who dont use English as their first language (which can make it very difficult to read such papers).

If you have NO prior knowledge of AI and neural networks, you can read the Deep Learning section of one of my previous essays...

With Wirex card spending coming back to Asia, bitcoin investors in the region will soon have another such option for something other than just trading.

Recent House Financial Services Hearing Bashes Bitcoin, Illogical Arguments "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Whenever the topic of Bitcoin regulation comes up, things often deteriorate rather quickly. That situation is no different where House Financial Services subcommittee meetings are concerned. Their most recent get-together raised a lot of questions and showed there is a massive bias toward cryptocurrencies.

The Subcommittee Hearings Purpose

On paper, the recent meeting of the House Financial Services subcommittee had positive intentions. The goal is to get an overview of the cryptocurrency landscape. based on that information, regulatory measures may be introduced in the future. Unfortunately, the members of this subcommittee are rather divided on cryptocurrencies altogether. It seems there is a very strong bias toward this form of money, which is not entirely surprising.

Representative Brad Sherman of California is convinced cryptocurrencies are a crock. He is not a fan of how people can make a lot of money from buying, selling, and trading cryptocurrencies. At the same time, most stock market traders make good money by sitting at home in their pajamas as well. It seems the bias against cryptocurrencies is mainly because it is cryptocurrency. An unregulated form of money that makes people millions is a thorn in the side of Sherman.

Airing these concerns during a subcommittee hearing is always positive, though. Everyones opinion matters when these groups get together. However, Sherman is not a big fan of the ICO business model either. In his opinion, ICOs are a lie to the public and a way to disguise unregulated IPOs. Again, this shows there is some need for regulation of sort sorts, albeit that is much easier said than done.

Regulation is Coming Eventually

Even though the bashing of Bitcoin is clearly visible, the regulatory discussions are far from over. Instead, we will see further subcommittee meetings to discuss the regulatory aspect of the crypto craze. Protecting investors is one of the main objects of this subcommittee. Things will move along rather slowly, though .The lack of understanding cryptocurrencies is a problem which is difficult t......

Bearish Analysts Expect a Bitcoin Price Drop to $2,800 "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Depending on whom you pose the question to, Bitcoin will either rebound or meet its demise. As of right now, some analysts are convinced the Bitcoin price will drop well below $5,000 pretty soon. If Market Securities Dubais Paul Day is to be believed, we will hit $2,800 in the not so distant future.

The Bitcoin Price Decline So Far

Anyone who has paid attention to Bitcoin this year may have noticed a peculiar trend. After hitting nearly $20,000 in late 2017, that same Bitcoin is now worth just over $8,200. Such a price trend is not uncommon in the world of cryptocurrency, though. The Bitcoin price goes through a bearish cycle virtually every year. Each time this happens, the value retraces from an all-time high by up to 90%. Right now, we are looking at a 53% decline with little improvement in sight.

Despite this negative trend, some speculators remain optimistic. John McAfee is a permabull when it comes to the Bitcoin price. His prediction of a value of $500,000 in the next two years still holds true to this date. Whether or not such a price goal is even remotely possible, is a different matter altogether. It will depend on merchant adoption, payment integrations, and new regulatory measures being deployed all over the world.

Speaking of regulation, things remain uncertain in this regard. South Korea still keeps an open mind, which is good to see. Additionally, we see India contemplating regulation of cryptocurrencies, yet no one knows how things will play out. In the US, cryptocurrency remains largely unregulated as well. The European Central Bank has no intention of intervening in this regard, which is rather interesting. A mixed bag of regulatory measures, as one would come to expect at this point.

The Bearish Bitcoin Price Outlook

Despite there being no real reason for it, the Bitcoin price is still struggling for traction. Bloomberg analysts are concerned this may only be the beginning of the end. More specifically, a ...

Whose Interests Does the Royal College of Psychiatrists Really Serve? "IndyWatch Feed Health"

When you consult the Royal College of Psychiatrists website it proclaims that one of its primary aims is to improve the mental health of individuals, their families and communities thus, to act in the public interest.

Recent events at the Royal College put that proclamation in serious doubt. The first concerns the Colleges public position on the recent Cipriani et al. study on antidepressants; a study which, as an editorial in the British Medical Journal has reiterated, simply confirms what other meta-analyses have long shown: that antidepressants have no clinically significant benefits over placebo for most people. So why did the Royal College publicly declare that this study will finally put to bed the controversy over antidepressants; a claim unsupported by Ciprianis study?

As the BMJ confirms: [Ciprianis et al] meta-analysis does not answer key questions about the use of antidepressants, including their effect on milder forms of depression, their effects beyond eight weeks of treatment, the harms associated with specific agents and their magnitude, and the effectiveness of antidepressants outside the confines of randomised trials. It did not consider the long-term adverse effects of antidepressants, the likelihood of withdrawal symptoms when treatment stops

In short, far from putting to bed the controversy over antidepressants, this study deepens it, as subsequent events confirm.

This concerns a further attempt by the Royal College to once again, in my view, promote these drugs to the public  this time by downplaying their harmful effects. This was exposed when CEP wrote a letter to The Times pointing out the limits of the Cipriani study, and stating  quite rightly  that the drugs can have severe withdrawal effects for many people.

The Colleges response (also in The Times) declared that we were wrong about withdrawal: We know, they contended, that in the vast majority of patients, any unpleasant symptoms experienced on discontinuing antidepressants have resolved within two weeks of stopping treatment.

When campaigners pointed out that the Colleges own research (published on the Colleges own website) contradicted this two-week claim, within 24 hours the College had removed that research,...

The Original Little Mermaid "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

On Kay Nielsen, Disney, and the sanitization of the modern fairy tale.

A concept drawing by Kay Nielsen for The Little Mermaid.

The mermaid in the illustration was lithe, mysterious, sylphlike. She perched on a rock, inscrutable. For years, Id been bombarded with the images, books, merchandise, and endless one-offs of Disneys The Little Mermaid. Disneys Ariel was redheaded, cheerful, an open bookvoluptuous in that squeaky-clean cartoon way. She was certainly not the mermaid Hans Christian Andersen envisioned when he wrote his tragic tale. But here was a sad water sprite who was the perfect embodiment of the ambiguous virtues of folklore. Id stumbled across her online, in a series of concept drawings for Disneys The Little Mermaid. They had been drawn in the fifties and shelved for thirty years.

I grew up during a losing streak for Disney. They were putting out live-action films, and while their classic fairy tales were still beloved, they were scarce. I have noticed that younger generations tend to be shocked to learn the original plot of Andersens The Little Mermaid (spoiler: she kills...

Cooking with Alexandre Dumas "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

In Valerie Stiverss Eat Your Words series, she cooks up recipes drawn from the works of various writers.

If the lavish feasts and epic drinking sessions of The Three Musketeers, by Alexandre Dumas (18021970), are any indication, seventeenth-century France was the era of the gourmand. The musketeersAthos, Porthos, and Aramisand their young friend dArtagnan, the Gascon nobleman who is the books hero, are frat boys of a different era, men for whom an ordinary evening at home is thus:

Porthos was in bed, and was playing a game of lansquenet with Mousqueton [his servant], to keep his hand in; while a spit loaded with partridges was turning before the fire, and on each side of a large chimney-piece, over two chafing dishes, were boiling two stew-pans, from which exhaled a double odour of rabbit and fish stews, rejoicing to the smell. In addition to this the top of a wardrobe and the marble of a commode were covered with empty bottles.

The musketeers know no moderation. They order multiple bottles of wine for a quick drink, and at one point, one of them consumes an entire wine cellar. When Aramis plans to eat an omelet with a side of spinach, his friends ultimately convince him to say to the waiter, Return from whence you came; take back these horrible vegetables Order a larded hare, a fat capon, mutton leg dressed with garlic, and four bottles of old Burgundy.

I am not a prolific social media user, and admit to being an infrequent Instagrammer. I am content to keep my head down and chug along in my daily routine, leaving Instagram bandwidth to those who post unique, beautiful and inspiring content or a combination of any or all three of those (and any dog accounts and Diddys dance moves). One account Im drawn to again and again is that of wedding and food photographer Betty Liu. Bettys skill as a wedding photographer lends itself perfectly to capturing the preparation of food, as well as food itself. I love to study the textures and use of light in her images.

We reached out to Betty for her favorite recipe, and she shared her familys Scallion Oil Lapcheong Noodles, her comfort food of choice. This is an umami-rich dish, thanks to the fat in the lapcheong (Chinese sausage) and can be prepared almost as quickly as it takes the noodles to cook perfect for last-minute or short-on-time meal prep. As Betty explains, the recipe lends itself to endless variations and experimentation, so if sausage isnt your thing, try with something else and let us know how you like it!  Kristina

Token Airdrops Are Taking Off Despite Legal Concerns

They say you get nothing for free in this life, but tokenized projects running airdrops would beg to differ. You can now get a whole lotta crypto assets for free hundreds of them in fact simply for signing up and following some social channels. What started as a novelty has become the norm, with a vast number of ICOs now earmarking a portion of their tokens for free distribution. Questions remain though about the legal status of airdropped tokens in an age where anything related to crypto risks being labeled a security.

Airdrops Are the New Faucets

Fractions of a bitcoin were given away on tap, back when BTC was cheap enough to send in small amounts and bits were worth buttons. Anyone who claimed those free morsels back in the day and held onto them will have eventually came into possession of some extremely valuable cryptocurrency. Today, airdrops are the faucets of the token economy. These freely dispensed tokens arent worth much if anything but theres a small chance that one day they might be worth something.

Precautionary Principle Problems "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Google gives a good definition of the precautionary principle:

precautionary principle noun
The principle that the introduction of a new product or process whose ultimate effects are disputed or unknown should be resisted. It has mainly been used to prohibit the importation of genetically modified organisms and food.
It is easy to imagine Very Bad Things that might happen if we ignore the precautionary principle. For example, what if somebody uses gene-editing technology to produce a super-virus that wipes out all human life?

What if genetically modified corn runs amok and spreads uncontrollably? Or maybe GMO foods cause cancer and we just haven't noticed yet.

How about machine learning: what if future super-smart machines decide us humans are unnecessary and decide it is logical to get rid of us?

Scary! Why not be safe and just ban all that research until we understand the possible consequences better?

Well... because Very Bad Things might happen if we do that.

What if an incredibly deadly variation of the Spanish Flu wipes out 99% of human life, but researchers could have saved us if they had more advanced gene-editing techniques?

What if we all starve to death because climate change wipes out all our crops, but researchers could have saved us with geo-engineering or climate-change-resistant GMO crops?

Or maybe super-smart machines will save us (and them) from some world-ending disaster we aren't smart enough to see coming-- asteroids or angry aliens or albino alligator attacks (that's just the a's!).

I don't know how to evaluate the far-future likelihood of machine intelligence or CRISPR destroying everything we value, versus the likelihood they save us from destruction. I don't think anybody knows. Maybe hyper-intelligent man/machine cyborgs will eventually be smart enough to run the numbers and figure it out, but until then I'm going to ignore people who use one side of the precautionary principle to argue against technologies they oppose.

Rice Puts You At a Higher Risk For Diabetes Than Sugary Drinks, According to a Recent Study "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that approximately 9.4% of the American population had diabetes as of 2015, both diagnosed and undiagnosed. This disease occurs when the body is either unable to produce the insulin required to regulate your bodys blood sugar levels, or the production is insufficient.

High blood sugar levels have been associated with heart disease and stroke, nerve damage, kidney disease, dental problems, damage to your vision and more.

While there are some cases of diabetes that cannot be prevented, such as those linked with the genetic influence of a family history, experts have identified a number of risk factors that, when addressed, can help to decrease your chances of developing the disease. These include being overweight, physical inactivity and dietary choices.

Weve all heard the warning at one time or another in our lives Avoid eating too much sugar or you will develop diabetes. While there is some truth to this claim, sugary foods arent the only items that we should be paying attention to. An often overlooked offender, carbohydrates are broken down into sugars such as fructose and glucose during the digestion process.

Not only do experts warn about the excessive consumption of carbohydrates, a study out of Harvard reveals that simple white rice may actually be one of the most dangerous foods in regard to your risk for developing diabetes.

The researchers analyzed data from over 350,000 participants across four different countries: The United States, Australia, China, and Japan. The data followed the participants for anywhere from 2 to 22 years, tracking both their food intake as well as their overall health and well-being. Quantum Theory Suggests the Human Body Is a Projection of Consciousness "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Have you ever considered that maybe your body isnt actually there? What if it were just a holographic projection of your consciousness?

Quantum physics has presented us with various different ideas as to what consciousness is and how our world is perceived in general. One of the most important things to note about quantum physics is that our thoughts determine reality. This was proved in the double slit experiment and is proven time and time again every time it is redone.

The more we delve into quantum mechanics the stranger the world becomes; appreciating this strangeness of the world, whilst still operating in that which you now consider reality, will be the foundation for shifting the current trajectory of your life from ordinary to extraordinary. It is the Tao of mixing this cosmic weirdness with the practical and physical, which will allow you to move, moment by moment, through parallel worlds to achieve your dreams.
Kevin Michel (Moving Through Parallel Worlds To Achieve Your Dreams)

The double slit experiment is basically an experiment that was done that found that the determining factor of the behavior of energy (particles) at the quantum level is the awareness of the observer. Electrons under the same conditions would sometimes act like particles and other times they would act like waves. The experiment was completely dependent on what the observer expected to happen. What the observer believed would happen is what happened.

This goes on to explain that if you really consider it, human beings could even harness the power of their thoughts in the future and basically control the universe within reason. William Brown actually goes over this in The Resonance Project. According to Brown, reality and the field of energy that makes up the universe are able to materialize into one another at a rate of about 1044 times a second. At our energy state, we have absolute control over what we choose to manifest in the next moment. Does that make sense to you?

If our bodies are a projection of our consciousness then our consciousness also creates the blueprint that makes up our bodies, right? Well, wouldnt this be the human energy field we hear so much about? This is basically an...

You May Want to Stay Away From Giga Watts Services "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Last year when Giga Watt (the former MegaBigPower) announced their WTT token sale we were pretty excited about it and not only participated, but spread the word about it. With the good track record we were expecting big things to happen, but now, 9 months later we are really disappointed from our experience with Giga Watt in general and would want to warn everyone to stay away from their services. It is all but a delay after delay after another delay and things not happening for months after they take your money and in the world of crypto delays with months are not something that anyone wants as things change quite rapidly.

Let us see why we are not happy. First we were promised tokens that represent actual power capacity in the Giga Watt facility, of course they needed some time to build that capacity, so as a result there were more than a few month delays until the release of all of the tokens. Unfortunately letting users know how is development progressing during all this time has been less than well done with just a few scarce updates instead of constant updates on progress. We were promised market for these tokens that would allows us to profit from holding and leasing them to users needing power to host their miners and if there is a demand we could get higher price. Well, guess what, even at the lowest price of 4.2 cents you are not able to rent more than 60% to 75% of your tokens, regardless of how many they are and this has been like that from the start months ago.

In the end you have some 30 or more percent of your tokens free all of the time, so why not purchase some of the miners sold by Giga Watt and have them hosted at their facility to actually utilize the free tokens for something. Great idea, right, or so we thought and wanted to try it out a couple of months ago, so around the end of November last year we have purchased the following ASIC miners: Antminer S9 13.5 TH/s PSU Included Batch 6 January and Antminer L3+ PSU Included Batch 6 December. With these descriptions one would expect that the L3+ would go online in December or January latest and the S9 in January or early February. Guess what, it is already mid March and our miners purchased and paid for are still not online in Giga Watt&#821...

Venezuela Faces the Return of Forgotten Diseases "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

This report was originally published by J. G. Martinez D. at The Organic Prepper

Dear fellows, I want to tell a little story of this last week.

My son had a rash in his little armpits and other parts. So his mom took him to the doctor, within walking distance from our subdivision (our SUV is still busted). After the subsequent blood test (according to my wife it was a real spectacle. He is a strong kid and a task force between my wife, the doctor and a nurse was needed to get the blood samplewell at least we know he is able to defend himself.) The lab result (freaking expensive because the reactants are scarce) was salmonella.

I started to worry a lot, as it is logical. That was Thursday. I got immediately into fast-forward mode, and found the money, while I was extremely concerned about the availability of the needed antibiotics. My wife woke up early, and with a neighbor in his car went with the kiddo to the pharmacy. After visiting two pharmacies with negative results, they headed up to a state-owned pharmacy next to the state hospital, controlled by Cubans or party members, who betray the hospital personnel that dares to report malnutrition deaths or similar events. This is happening.

She was finally able to find the medicines on Saturday morning, at a really inflated price, but the neighbor works for an official government, with a flash of his badge she could buy them without the employees giving it a second look.

I emailed a copy of the doctors report to Daisy, so she can confirm my history for those who feel the need to do so.

To me, this was a major achievement under the actual circumstances. I used some of the money from your donations, to exchange it for the needed Bolivares to buy the medications, but the important thing to note here is that they were found. And that is not easy in this country.

Forgotten diseases are returning

Recent reports from these last few days have been, for someone who understands the importance of the endemic diseases that had been under control, spreading quickly.

I am talking about serious stuff: Tuberculosis, Diptheria, Leishmaniasis. There have been adults and children who died because of these things. The diseases themselves, under normal conditions can be healed. But without the ap...

Like Something From A Science Fiction Film, This Startup Will Gladly Kill You and Upload Your Brain For Science "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Sure, you may see something like this in Black Mirror, but this is without a doubt real life. This new startup called Nectome wants to kill all of its users and preserve their brains.

From here they will upload as much of you as they can even when your body is no longer around. It seems the purpose behind this is that they will use some kind of special designer chemical solution in order to preserve the body and brain well enough to keep things like memories intact.

They do this in hopes that in the future it will be possible (within the next 100 years or so) to digitize and download those memories and basically recreate their consciousness. According to MIT TechnologyReview, the company plans to connect people with terminal illnesses to a heart-lung machine in order to pump its mix of scientific embalming chemicals into the big carotid arteries in their necks while still living. That being said, they will be under general anesthesia.

While their service is not yet available and will not be available for several years, it is quite interesting. The company has basically set up a waiting list and about 25 people have signed up and placed their $10,000 deposit. One of those people actually happens to be Sam Altman who is one of the creators of the Y Combinator program. He told MIT TechnologyReview that he assumes his brain will be uploaded to the cloud and that minds will be digitized in his lifetime.

According to Nectomes website, their mission is as follows:

Our mission is to preserve your brain well enough to keep all its memories intact: from that great chapter of your favorite book to the feeling of cold winter air, baking an apple pie, or having dinner with your friends and family. If memories can truly be preserved by a sufficiently good brain banking technique, we believe that within the century it could become feasible to digitize your preserved brain and use that information to recreate your mind. How close are we to this possibility? Currently, we can preserve the connectomes of animal brains and are working on extending our techniques to human brains in research context. This is an important first step towards the development of a verified memory preservation protocol, as the connectome plays a vital role in memory storage.

Our process of vitrification (also known as Aldehyde-Stabilized Cryopreservation) has won the Brain Preservation Prize for preserving a whole rabbit connectome, and we are currently hard at work to scale our preservation process to larger brains.

Kind of insanely awesome and terrifying isnt it? Th...

Based on the Zodiac, This Is How the Jupiter Retrograde Will Affect Your Friendships "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

On March 8th we entered into an incredibly powerful period of growth and change known as Jupiter Retrograde. Lasting approximately 120 days, this energy will influence every area of our lives from our careers and financial success to our friendships and love life. By understanding how this energy will influence our thoughts, emotions, actions, and reactions we can leverage the positive aspects while taking steps to protect ourselves from any possible negative energy.

When a planet turns retrograde, it means that it appears to be moving backward. Merely an illusion, this backward motion is created by the position of Jupiter in relation to the Earth, and the way in which we are orbiting around the sun. While the movement is an illusion, the impact that this time has on the energies that surround us is very real.

Jupiter is considered to be the Planet of Luck, associated with higher learning, intellect, philosophy and good fortune. The influence of Jupiter is often considered to be positive and incredibly lucky, however, the influence of the retrograde will noticeably shift this energy. Rather than simply focusing on the positive aspects of our life, Jupiter Retrograde will highlight areas of potential growth. It will challenge us and push us out of our comfort zone, allowing us to evolve into stronger, better-adjusted versions of ourselves.

In relation to our friendships, Jupiter Retrograde is going to cause some chaos and disorganization, drawing our attention to relationships that may need attention and those that are no longer serving a purpose in our lives. These challenges and roadblocks will strengthen some friendships as you work through all that this time throws at you, growing together, while other relationships may come crashing down. By the end of this period of time, you will know who you can trust, and who will always be there for you regardless of what life throws your way.

Professor Hawking mostly remembered for internet memes "IndyWatch Feed Satire"

The death of Steven Hawking has seen an outpouring of tributes from across the world as fans, journalists and celebrities fondly exchanged their favourite online nuggets of wisdom and life hacks from the professor, and not his various theories concerning the origins of the universe or quantum field theory.

The internationally renowned physicist, who also became a bestselling author in spite of debilitating illness, was the first mathematician to discover that we should look up to the stars, and that, like the universe, human dreams are infinite. However, despite numerous experiments from the 1980s onward, he was unable to disprove that black holes suck the life out of dinner party conversation.

Hawking was also well known for his various forays into the world of comedy and entertainment, and was credited for making it possible for ordinary people to enjoy David Walliams. He later demonstrated to within four decimal points that the one thing everyone everyone loves is a cheeky boffin, and was credited with developing the Ramp theory, which made joking about disabilities accessible.

However, he never completed his long-term goal of formulating the fabled everything meme a supermeme which unified all human wisdom within a 15 word slogan, though friends of the professor say he predicted it would in some way feature a picture of a sunset.

These results show the therapeutic potential of palmitoylethanolamide in models of Alzheimer's disease. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  CNS Neurol Disord Drug Targets. 2013 Feb 1 ;12(1):62-9. PMID: 23394526 Abstract Title:  Neuroglial roots of neurodegenerative diseases: therapeutic potential of palmitoylethanolamide in models of Alzheimer's disease. Abstract:  The growth of knowledge about the molecular mechanisms underlying Alzheimer's disease (AD) has highlighted the role of neuroinflammation in the pathophysiology of this disorder. AD is classically characterized by the deposit of misfolded proteins: the extracellular accumulation of beta amyloid peptide (A), and the formation of intracellular neurofibrillary tangles. However, it is clear that many other cellular dysfunctions occur. Among these, a prominent role is exerted by the inflammatory process which is a consequence of the over-activation of glial cells. Indeed, several models of AD have demonstrated that glia modify their functions, losing the physiological supportive role. These cells instead acquire a pro-inflammatory phenotype, thus contributing to exacerbate A toxicity. The relationship between neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation is strictly interdependent, and research efforts are now addressed to antagonize both processes simultaneously. Along this line palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) has attracted much attention because of its numerous pharmacological properties, particularly those related to the modulation of peripheral inflammation through the peroxisome proliferator activated receptor- involvement. In light of these considerations, we explored the antiinflammatory and neuroprotective effects of PEA in rat neuronal cultures and organotypic hippocampal slices challenged with A, and treated with PEA in the presence or absence of a selective peroxisome proliferator activated receptor- antagonist. The data indicate that PEA is able to blunt A-induced astrocyte activation and to exert a marked protective effect on neurons. These findings highlight new pharmacological properties of PEA and suggest that this compound may provide an effective strategy for AD.

Palmitoylethanolamide and luteolin compounds exerts a significant antidepressant effect a low doses. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  CNS Neurol Disord Drug Targets. 2013 Nov ;12(7):989-1001. PMID: 23844686 Abstract Title:  Effects of palmitoylethanolamide and luteolin in an animal model of anxiety/depression. Abstract:  The antidepressant effect of a compound formed by co-ultramicronized palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) and luteolin (PEA+luteolin) was investigated in a mouse model of anxiety/depressive-like behavior. 129Sv/Ev mice were subjected to 6 weeks of corticosterone administration, and then behavior, neurogenesis, neuroplasticity, neurotrophic and apoptotic proteins expression were evaluated. The effect of PEA+luteolin compound treatment (1mg/kg, i.p.), on depression-like behaviour was assessed using different paradigms such as open field, novelty suppressed feeding, forced swim test and elevated plus maze. In particular in the open field, novelty suppressed feeding and elevated plus maze the time spent in the open arm was employed as an indicator of anxiety; forced swim test was used to evaluate the antidepressant capacity of PEA+luteolin on immobility time as an indicator of depression. Adult hippocampal neurogenesis and neuroplasticity were evaluated by immunohistochemical techniques; brain-derived neurotrophic factor and apoptotic protein (Bax and Bcl2) expression were studied by immunostaining and Western blot analysis. For the first time we demonstrated that PEA+luteolin compound exerts a significant antidepressant effect a low dose and may be considered as a novel therapeutic strategy in depression.

PMID:  Int J Inflam. 2013 ;2013:151028. Epub 2013 Aug 27. PMID: 24066256 Abstract Title:  Palmitoylethanolamide: A Natural Body-Own Anti-Inflammatory Agent, Effective and Safe against Influenza and Common Cold. Abstract:  Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) is a food component known since 1957. PEA is synthesized and metabolized in animal cells via a number of enzymes and exerts a multitude of physiological functions related to metabolic homeostasis. Research on PEA has been conducted for more than 50 years, and over 350 papers are referenced in PubMed describing the physiological properties of this endogenous modulator and its pharmacological and therapeutical profile. The major focus of PEA research, since the work of the Nobel laureate Levi-Montalcini in 1993, has been neuropathic pain states and mast cell related disorders. However, it is less known that 6 clinical trials in a total of nearly 4000 people were performed and published last century, specifically studying PEA as a therapy for influenza and the common cold. This was done before Levi-Montalcini's clarification of PEA's mechanism of action, analyzing the role of PEA as an anti-inflammatory agent. We will review in depth these studies, as the results support the effectiveness and safety of PEA in flu and respiratory infections.

Check out these useful ECMAScript 2015 (ES6) tips and tricks "IndyWatch Feed Education"

Photo by Glenn Carstens-Peters on Unsplash

EcmaScript 2015 (aka ES6) has been around for couple of years now, and various new features can be used in clever ways. I wanted to list and discuss some of them, since I think youll find them useful.

If you know of other tips, please let me know in the comment and Ill be happy to add them.

1. Enforcing required parameters

ES6 provides default parameter values that allow you to set some default value to be used if the function is called without that parameter.

In the following example, we are setting the required() function as the default value for both a and b parameters. This means that if either a or b is not passed, the required() function is called and youll get an error.

const required = () => {throw new Error('Missing parameter')};
//The below function will trow an error if either "a" or "b" is missing.
const add = (a = required(), b = required()) => a + b;
add(1, 2) //3
add(1) // Error: Missing parameter.

2. The mighty reduce

Arrays reduce method is extremely versatile. It is typically used to convert an array of items into a single value. But you can do a lot more with it.

Tip: Most of these tricks rely on the initial value being an Array or an Object instead of a simple value like a string or a variable.

2.1 Using reduce to do both map and filter *simultaneously*

Suppose you have a situation where you have a list of items, and you want to update each item (that is, map) and then filter only a few items (that is, filter). But this means that you would need to run through the list twice!

In the below example, we want to double the value of items in the array and then pick only those that are greater than 50. Notice how we can use the powerful reduce method to both dou...

Intuitive Astrology: Mercury Retrograde March-April 2018 "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

March is a busy month in the skies. Not only does it bring us a Blue Moon and the start of the astrological year, but Mercury also slips into retrograde on the 22nd.

Mercury retrograde happens every few months or so, and is a time for all of us to slow down and think about how we are communicating not only to others but also to ourselves.

Mercury is the messenger of the Gods and is always by the Suns side taking notes, delivering messages, and communicating thoughts and feelings. When in retrograde however, Mercury moves away from the Sun and slips into the underworld. It is here that Mercury can uncover hidden messages, and dig through the depths in order to bring information to the light.

During Mercury Retrograde, it is common for old wounds, thoughts, and feelings to arise to the surface in order to be cleared. It is also a time to reflect on the past and to perhaps reach out to people that you have unfinished business with.

Mercury Retrograde is not a time to forge forward with great gusto, in fact under this energy it is much better to move slowly and to think carefully before making new plans and starting new ventures.

While the planet of communication and messages is in the underworld, having patience is important and time is needed for all the facts to come to the surface.

The timing of Marchs retrograde is interesting as it occurs just a few days after the start of the new astrological year or Equinox, which falls on March 20-21st.

Traditionally, the astrological year is a time where we can really leap forward and begin to put our plans into action. It is a time where we can really blossom and put all of our ideas and thoughts out into the world.

With Mercury going retrograde just a few days after the Equinox, it seems that the Universe really wants us to slow down. It seems that we are being called to really meditate and think things through before taking action.

While we can definitely make plans and keep moving forward in the direction that feels best, Mercury retrograde is just going to be reminding us to move slowly, and to really think about what we are doing and saying.

As the planet of communication, Mercury may also be reminding us to align our words with our actions. Most of us say we want certain things, or communicate certain things to others, but then fall short when it comes to actually taking action.

This is similar to a study that was conducted that asked people if they preferred meditating or watching TV. Even thou...

PinIdea RR-200 Cryptonight ASIC Miner Coming Next "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

It seems that everyone is releasing Cryptonight ASIC miners out of the blue, there is information and websites in China starting to offer PinIdea RR-200 Cryptonight ASIC miners that are promising 27 KH/s Cryptonight and 55 KH/s Cryptonight-light mining performance at 350 Watts of power usage with a price similar to that of the Baikal Giant-N. So the RR-200 promises a bit faster hashrate and comes at pretty much the same price and shipping immediately directly trying to compete with the Baikal offer. Unfortunately at this point it is hard to confirm this new miner for sure as the official PinIdea website seems to be down and there is no info on their official Facebook page about a new Cryptonight ASIC being released, so treat this information with caution!

Queen Elizabeth II Has A WW3 Speech Written And It Is Ready To Deliver "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

by Mac Slavo;

The Queen of England has a pre-written speech prepared for the outbreak of World War 3. As tensions between Russia and the United Kingdom continue to flare, the Queens speech is sparking fears of a nuclear war.

An Austrailian news source, News.Com.Au, reported that some people already fear a nuclear war is more likely that during the Cold War era. The speech was prepared for her back in the 1980s. It was originally revealed in 2013, but no one paid much attention until now. The address was written in the event nuclear war does occur, and she needs to address the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.

The speech was released by the government under the 30-year rule, and is reflective of the time it was written, with a planned broadcast date of March 4, 1983. It was drawn up as part of a wargaming exercise. The script for a hypothetical broadcast has the monarch describing the threat to the brave country as greater than any other in history. It also mentions the Queens son Prince Andrew, then in the Royal Navy. The speech, devised by Whitehall officials at one of the most fraught Cold War periods, was never recorded.

Although it was only a simulation, the text of the Queens address (written as if broadcast at midday on Friday 4 March 1983) seeks to prepare the country for the ordeal of World War III. According to the BBC, it starts off by referring to the Queens traditional Christmas address:

Palmitoylethanolamide improves colon inflammation. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Gut. 2014 Aug ;63(8):1300-12. Epub 2013 Sep 30. PMID: 24082036 Abstract Title:  Palmitoylethanolamide improves colon inflammation through an enteric glia/toll like receptor 4-dependent PPAR- activation. Abstract:  OBJECTIVE: Enteric glia activation has been reported to amplify intestinal inflammation via the enteroglial-specific S100B protein. This neurotrophin promotes macrophage recruitment in the mucosa, amplify colonic inflammation and interacts with toll-like receptors (TLR). Molecules inhibiting S100B-driven enteric activation might mitigate the course of ulcerative colitis (UC). This study aims to investigate the effects of palmitoylethanolammide (PEA), a drug able to counteract astroglial activation in the central nervous system, on intestinal inflammation, in humans and mice.DESIGN: Mouse models of dextran sodium sulphate (DSS)-induced colitis, colonic biopsies deriving from UC patients and primary cultures of mouse and human enteric glial cells (EGC), have been used to assess the effects of PEA, alone or in the presence of specific PPAR or PPAR antagonists, on: macroscopic signs of UC (DAI score, colon length, spleen weight, macrophages/neutrophils infiltration); the expression and release of proinflammatory markers typical of UC; TLR pathway in EGCs.RESULTS: PEA treatment improves all macroscopic signs of UC and decreases the expression and release of all the proinflammatory markers tested. PEA anti-inflammatory effects are mediated by the selective targeting of the S100B/TLR4 axis on ECG, causing a downstream inhibition of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kB)-dependent inflammation. Antagonists at PPAR, but not PPAR, abolished PEA effects, in mice and in humans.CONCLUSIONS: Because of its lack of toxicity, its ability in reducing inflammation and its selective PPAR action, PEA might be an innovative molecule to broaden pharmacological strategies against UC.

This Book Contains an Invisible 1,400-Year-Old Text We Can Only Read With X-Rays "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

by Peter Dockrill; Science Alert

They say never judge a book by its cover - but sometimes you can't even trust the words written on the pages.

This week, scientists in California are busy investigating an archaic hymn book of religious text dating back to the 11th century. In ordinary circumstances, this weathered volume would be a priceless historical artefact in its own right. But these are not ordinary circumstances.

This time around, the religious script is a smokescreen: an ancient cover-up concealing a far older truth one that dates back many more centuries into the past, to a man considered one of the fathers of the medical science we have today.

That man was Galen of Pergamon, a Greek physician and philosopher born under the Roman Empire during the 2nd century, who through his teachings and writings became known as one of the greatest medical minds of antiquity.

But not all those communications were carefully tended by history.

ZeroEdge.Bet Revolutionary online gambling platform with 0% house edge games

ZeroEdge is a unique concept set to revolutionize the way you gamble online. Currently, all online casino games come with a house edge, i.e. the advantage that the casino has over you, which varies between 1% to 10% or more, depending on the game. ZeroEdges solution offer games with 0% house edge and give players a completely fair chance of winning. In other words, playing at ZeroEdge.Bet is literally free, you dont have to pay anything to the casino like its with traditional online casino sites.

The most amazing part is that Zerocoin value increases as more people join the world first 0% edge gambling platform. It is all achieved by creating a closed-loop economy in which high demand for 0% games drives Zerocoins value up. This model is also known as Metcalfes law which was originally invented in 1993 and can be seen in the actual Bitcoins price growth. ZeroEdge offers a unique gambling model which potentially could revolutionize the $70 Billion gambling industry. Players wont be losing money but instead earning from the increasing Zerocoin value.

High demand for the worlds first 0% house edge games will increase the Zerocoin value exponentially. An important task for...

Beautifully Designed Map Shows the Literal Translations of Country Names: Place of Abundant Fish (Panama), Land of Many Rabbits (Spain), and More "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Recently we featured a world map that labels each country not with its name in English, but its name in its own language. That surely proved not just a fascinating linguistic-geographical lesson but, for many, a helpful guide to referring to other lands in a much more sophisticated manner at cocktail parties. But whatever one's motives, one ultimately has to wonder: what do all those country names actually mean? Few to none would have emerged as random assemblies of syllables; nearly all must have started as descriptions, to varying degrees of literalness, of the places they name.

Take, for instance, "Place of Abundant Fish," better known to its people as Panam and to English-speakers as Panama. Or "Land of Burnt Faces," which many of us whose faces really would get burned if we took a trip there without sunscreen call Ethiopia. Or "Temple of the Soul of Ptah," "He that Striveth with God," and "In the Navel of the Moon," also known as Egypt, Israel, and Mexico. These names and many others appear on this world map with country names translated literally into English. "I was disappointed by Spain," added German geographer Simon Kustenmacher when he tweeted out the map. "'Land of Many Rabbits'? I expected something related to military..."

Palmitoylethanolamide could be used as a disease-modifying agent for controlling inflammatory responses and related chronic and neuropathic pain. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Inflammopharmacology. 2014 Apr ;22(2):79-94. Epub 2013 Nov 1. PMID: 24178954 Abstract Title:  Palmitoylethanolamide, a naturally occurring disease-modifying agent in neuropathic pain. Abstract:  Persistent pain affects nearly half of all people seeking medical care in the US alone, and accounts for at least $80 billion worth of lost productivity each year. Among all types of chronic pain, neuropathic pain stands out: this is pain resulting from damage or disease of the somatosensory nervous system, and remains largely untreatable. With few available treatment options, neuropathic pain represents an area of significant and growing unmet medical need. Current treatment of peripheral neuropathic pain involves several drug classes, including opioids, gabapentinoids, antidepressants, antiepileptic drugs, local anesthetics and capsaicin. Even so, less than half of patients achieve partial relief. This review discusses a novel approach to neuropathic pain management, based on knowledge of: the role of glia and mast cells in pain and neuroinflammation; the body's innate mechanisms to maintain cellular homeostasis when faced with external stressors provoking, for example, inflammation. The discovery that palmitoylethanolamide, a member of the N-acylethanolamine family which is produced from the lipid bilayer on-demand, is capable of exerting anti-allodynic and anti-hyperalgesic effects by down-modulating both microglial and mast cell activity has led to the application of this fatty acid amide in several clinical studies of neuropathic pain, with beneficial outcome and no indication of adverse effects at pharmacological doses. Collectively, the findings presented here propose that palmitoylethanolamide merits further consideration as a disease-modifying agent for controlling inflammatory responses and related chronic and neuropathic pain.

A recipe for website automated tests with Python Selenium & Headless Chrome in Docker "IndyWatch Feed Education"

Photo from the Oursky Hong Kong office

The QA team leads bug catching, but manual testing is not scalable when your company takes on more projects. Since my company sends builds every two weeks, the QA team wants to test every build before we pass them to our clients.

To improve QA, Ive helped modify project management processes, recruited a team of exploratory testers, and built automated testing tools for continuous integration as a QA Engineer. Most of the tools I build use open-source or free libraries.

Below is a guide for my open-source Github repo with 100,000+ docker image pulls to help development teams and freelance developers set up their own automated tests.

Our Task

We will go through the process step-by-step to see how to set up a test with Selenium, which automates browsers to perform tests. In this example, we will use headless Chrome to load our website and perform a simple click on the button we want to test on the site.

Setting up the Headless chrome

Starting up a Chrome browser in Docker to run a Selenium test takes just a minute. Once it works, it works with any automated CI builds.

Here is an example:

First, open your terminal and go to your working directory.

$ cd [your working directory]

Then pull and run this docker image from joyzoursky/python-chromedriver. We will run the Selenium test inside the Docker container.

$ docker run -it -v $(pwd):/usr/workspace joyzoursky/python-chromedriver:3.6-alpine3.7-selenium sh

Palmitoylethanolamide prevents metabolic alterations and restores leptin sensitivity in ovariectomized rats. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Endocrinology. 2014 Apr ;155(4):1291-301. Epub 2014 Jan 15. PMID: 24428531 Abstract Title:  Palmitoylethanolamide prevents metabolic alterations and restores leptin sensitivity in ovariectomized rats. Abstract:  It has been suggested a role of fatty acid ethanolamides in control of feeding behavior. Among these, palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) has not been directly implicated in appetite regulation and weight gain. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of PEA on food intake and body weight and the interaction between PEA and hypothalamic leptin signaling in ovariectomized rats. Ovariectomy produced hyperphagia and increased weight gain, making it an useful model of mild obesity. Ovariectomized rats were treated with PEA (30 mg/kg sc) for 5 weeks. Then, blood was collected, and hypothalamus and adipose tissue were removed for histological, cellular, and molecular measurements. We showed that PEA caused a reduction of food intake, body weight, and fat mass. The mechanisms underlying PEA effects involved an improvement in hypothalamic leptin signaling, through a raise in signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 phosphorylation. We also reported that PEA reduced AMP-activated protein kinase- phosphorylation and modulated transcription of anorectic and orexigenic neuropeptides in the hypothalamus. Moreover, PEA increased AMP-activated protein kinase- phosphorylation and carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1 transcription in adipose tissue, suggesting an increase in ATP-producing catabolic pathway. PEA also polarized adipose tissue macrophages to M2 lean phenotype, associated to a reduction of inflammatory cytokines/adipokines. To demonstrate the direct effect of PEA on leptin sensitivity without interference of adiposity loss, we obtained consistent data in PEA-treated sham-operated animals and in vitro in SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cell line. Therefore, our data provide a rationale for the therapeutic use of PEA in obese postmenopausal woman.

Vladimir Putin Says Russia Will Send People To The Moon And Mars "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

by The Daily Sheeple

Russian president Vladimir Putin said that as a part of Russias reinvigorated space program, the country will send people to both the moon and Mars. Russia is expected to begin their revamped journey in space next year.

According to The Independent, the Russian government will begin by sending landers to the red planet, yet the country hopes to send people there soon after that, said the Putin. Russias space agency will also attempt to put people at the poles of the Moon, he said. The purpose of Russias moon landing would be an exploration of the moons poles. Putin described that as a continuation of the work done during the Soviet space program.

That work reached its peak in the midst of the Cold War, as the US and Russia battled it out to get the first person into space and then onto the moon. Russia won the race to send the first person into space but has never put one of its cosmonauts on the moon.

Putin didnt specifically say that Russia was racing Elon Musk and his Space X program to Mars or the moon, but Musk did announce that he intends to launch his rocket to the Red Planet in 2019.

Putin also said that landing on the moon could be a vital step in future space endeavors. The moon could be used as a launching point for other missions to other plants.

Glyphosate exposure in pregnancy leads to a shortened gestational length. "IndyWatch Feed Fertility"

PMID:  Environ Health. 2018 Mar 9 ;17(1):23. Epub 2018 Mar 9. PMID: 29519238 Abstract Title:  Glyphosate exposure in pregnancy and shortened gestational length: a prospective Indiana birth cohort study. Abstract:  BACKGROUND: Glyphosate (GLY) is the most heavily used herbicide worldwide but the extent of exposure in human pregnancy remains unknown. Its residues are found in the environment, major crops, and food items that humans, including pregnant women, consume daily. Since GLY exposure in pregnancy may also increase fetal exposure risk, we designed a birth-cohort study to determine exposure frequency, potential exposure pathways, and associations with fetal growth indicators and pregnancy length.METHOD: Urine and residential drinking water samples were obtained from 71 women with singleton pregnancies living in Central Indiana while they received routine prenatal care. GLY measurements were performed using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Demographic and survey information relating to food and water consumption, stress, and residence were obtained by questionnaire. Maternal risk factors and neonatal outcomes were abstracted from medical records. Correlation analyses were used to assess relationships of urine GLY levels with fetal growth indicators and gestational length.RESULTS: The mean age of participants was 29 years, and the majority were Caucasian. Ninety three percent of the pregnant women had GLY levels above the limit of detection (0.1 ng/mL). Mean urinary GLY was 3.40 ng/mL (range 0.5-7.20 ng/mL). Higher GLY levels were found in women who lived in rural areas (p =0.02), and in those who consumed>24 oz. of caffeinated beverages per day (p =0.004). None of the drinking water samples had detectable GLY levels. We observed no correlations with fetal growth indicators such as birth weight percentile and head circumference. However, higher GLY urine levels were significantly correlated with shortened gestational lengths (r=-0.28, p=0.02).CONCLUSIONS: This is the first study of GLY exposure in US pregnant women using urine specimens as a direct measure of exposure. We found that>90% of pregnant women had detectable GLY levels and that these levels correlated significantly with shortened pregnancy lengths. Although our study cohort was small and regional and had limited racial/ethnic diversity, it provides direct evidence of maternal GLY exposure and a significant correlation with shortened pregnancy. Further investigations in a more geographically and racially diverse cohort would be necessary before these findings could be generalized.

Congress: ISIS Responsible For Las Vegas Shooting "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Several members of Congress have received evidence that supports the claim that ISIS were responsible for the Las Vegas shooting last year.

Sources within the U.S. intelligence community have confirmed to reporter Laura Loomer that members of Congress were briefed on key evidence from the Las Vegas shooting this week the evidence 100% confirms ISISs claim that they were responsible for the attack. reports: The information briefed to members of Congress includes a hotel receipt that suggests additional individuals who have ties to Mexico participated in the Las Vegas Shooting and came in through the US Mexican border, despite the FBIs claim that Stephen Paddock acted alone and that the shooting was not a coordinated act of terrorism.

The briefing was not disclosed publicly, but this reporter has confirmed that several U.S. congressmen are now aware of the evidence that links the Las Vegas gunmen to ISIS terrorists who may have entered through the U.S.-Mexico border.

Although the FBI has remained adamant in their denial that ISIS played a role in the worst mass shooting in U.S. history, there is no denying the fact that ISIS has rarely taken responsibility for an attack they didnt commit, and even neglected at times to claim some attacks they could have easily taken credit for.

This point has been echoed by the The New York Times dedicated ISIS correspondent, Rukmini Callimachi, and Dr. Amarnath Amarasingam, a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, who has conducted numerous social media and in-person interviews with members of ISIS currently fighting in Syria and Iraq.

According to an analysis conducted by Rukmini Callimachi, who previously served as the West African Bureau Chief for Associated Press, out of 50 recent attacks in the West claimed by ISIS,...

Palmitoylethanolamide inhibits rMCP-5 expression by regulating MITF activation in rat chronic granulomatous inflammation. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Eur J Pharmacol. 2014 Feb 15 ;725:64-9. Epub 2014 Jan 16. PMID: 24440533 Abstract Title:  Palmitoylethanolamide inhibits rMCP-5 expression by regulating MITF activation in rat chronic granulomatous inflammation. Abstract:  Chronic inflammation, a condition frequently associated with several pathologies, is characterized by angiogenic and fibrogenic responses that may account for the development of granulomatous tissue. We previously demonstrated that the chymase, rat mast cell protease-5 (rMCP-5), exhibits pro-inflammatory and pro-angiogenic properties in a model of chronic inflammation sustained by mast cells (MCs), granuloma induced by the subcutaneous carrageenan-soaked sponge implant in rat. In this study, we investigated the effects of palmitoylethanolamide (PEA), an anti-inflammatory and analgesic endogenous compound, on rMCP-5 mRNA expression and Microphtalmia-associated Transcription Factor (MITF) activation in the same model of chronic inflammation. The levels of rMCP-5 mRNA were detected using semi-quantitative RT-PCR; the protein expression of chymase and extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERK) were analyzed by western blot; MITF/DNA binding activity and MITF phosphorylation were assessed by electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) and immunoprecipitation, respectively. The administration of PEA (200, 400 and 800g/ml) significantly decreased rMCP-5 mRNA and chymase protein expression induced by -carrageenan. These effects were associated with a significant decrease of MITF/DNA binding activity and phosphorylated MITF as well as phosphorylated ERK levels. In conclusion, our results, showing the ability of PEA to inhibit MITF activation and chymase expression in granulomatous tissue, may yield new insights into the understanding of the signaling pathways leading to MITF activation controlled by PEA.

How to read your way to becoming a better developer "IndyWatch Feed Education"

If you want to get better at programming, there are two things you need to do:

Write Code and Read Everything!

I have been writing software for a long time, and Ive had the opportunity to learn about programming in many different settings. I have struggled through problems on my own, worked with teams, and Ive even had the opportunity to learn in a University setting. Through all of my experiences I have found the best way to become a better programmer is to write code and read everything! The moment you stop doing either, you will slow down the progression of your skills.

Too many people get so excited to write code that they sometimes forget to put in their due diligence. Writing code is fun and I too have been guilty of ignoring the documentation. With old tools, or new, there will always be more to learn. You will save yourself a lot of time and energy if you make sure you have a good foundation before diving into a new tool.

To help you on your journey, I want to offer my favorite resources for reading about tech topics. Enjoy.

Official Documentation

When you already know the tool you want to work with, the best place to start is the official documentation. When working with something new, resist the urge to jump straight inlook through the docs first.

You will save yourself time and energy, while becoming a better developer. When you read you arent only learning that one topic. You are expanding your understanding of an entire area of software development and making it easier for you to learn the next topic.

At the bare minimum, go through a Getting Started tutorial and work though all the examples. Make sure you understand the simple parts of a new language or framework before moving on.

Many developers dont love writing documentation, so if you find quality information it is because the writer thought it would help.

Online Articles

The next places you should look for up to date information about the technical topics are online publications. Since you are reading this article, I can assume you have already discovered Medium. Medium is my all time favorite source for articles and blogs.

Medium is full of information on a massive range of both technical and non-technical topics. If you have interest in a topic, there is a good chance you can find articles on that topic on Medium....

Eligma Bringing Crypto Transactions into the Mainstream in the First Bitcoin City "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Eligma, a Slovenian startup, which is on a mission to transform commerce with the help of AI and blockchain technologies, has made an important reveal this week. The team has announced their plans regarding the crypto transaction system Elipay, which they will start testing this April in the offline retail world. Their testing lab is the first Bitcoin City in Ljubljana, Slovenia. This early feature is one of Eligmas many and is especially promising for early adopters, crypto enthusiasts, and potential contributors, who will now be able to spend their cryptocurrencies for their everyday shopping. Eligmas first product feature also backs up the teams promise of a truly usable ELI token, which will be released on April 17th, when Eligma will start their crowdsale with a hard cap of 24 million U.S. dollars.

Entering a market which reached 2.3 trillion U.S. dollars in sales last year, Eligma is being developed to offer simple solutions for problems which are present for all online shoppers. Harnessing the power of machine learning and AI technology, they are building a platform that will save its users time and money by providing them with the best search results, based on the specifications of the product they are looking for online. This will be enabled through Eligmas discovery feature, with which users will be able to access the plethora of different goods online from one account. Single login will be a unique feature that will simplify the online shopping experience. There will be no need to sign into several online stores to get the price or product comparison because Eligma will provide you with the best deal for your next purchase.

A team of experts and e-visionaries, supported by highly experienced advisors from areas of business development, AI, blockchain, and e-commerce, announced another Eligmas ambition, which they presented this week. As believers in the future of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies, they are planning to enable easy crypto transactions through their system called Elipay.

Topman didnt really think this through, did they?

Yeah, us neither.

Palmitoylethanolamide in animal model shows potential antidepressant effects. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Med Hypotheses. 2014 May ;82(5):507-11. Epub 2014 Mar 3. PMID: 24630855 Abstract Title:  Is there a role for palmitoylethanolamide in the treatment of depression? Abstract:  Depression is a common brain disorder affecting about 350 million people worldwide. Although the pharmacological treatment currently available can produce benefits in the majority of cases, residual depressive symptoms, cognitive deficits, functional impairment, and increase in frequency of relapses are frequently present in unipolar and bipolar depressed patients correctly treated. In the last years, numerous evidences have demonstrated the involvement of endocannabinoid system in the pathophysiology of mood disorders. Considering the recent findings about the antidepressant effect of palmitoylethanolamide in animal model, we have hypothesized the potential antidepressant effect of this fatty acid amide in unipolar and bipolar depressed patients.

JavaScripts this Explained By Starting A High School Band "IndyWatch Feed Education"

If you have ever been in a band, had a friend that started a band, or seen a corny 80s movie about starting a band, then you can understand the concept of this in JavaScript.

When you are reading over some JavaScript, and you come across the this keyword, the steps you need to take in order to figure out its value might seem obvious.

You might be thinking, I just need to find the function that contains this, and then I will know what it is referring to!

let band= {
name: "myBand",
playGig:function() {
console.log("Please welcome to the stage" +;

In the example above, for example, refers to the name myBand. This seems easy!

But, as you learn more JavaScript concepts, like closures and callbacks, you will quickly find that this does not behave like you would expect.

So, I wanted to create a visual explanation of how this works in JavaScript. Heres the scenario: You are back in high school, and starting a band with your friends (or maybe you are currently in high school?)

  • Your band has four members
  • You play three types of gigs: you play at bars, school competitions, and public events in town.
  • Your team can play all types of music, so you try to choose the right songs to match the audience. You dont want curse words or sexual references at the family-friendly events, for example.

As you will soon see, the biggest concept you need to understand with this is execution context. That is what determines the value of this.

Before you use this tutorial, you need to understand objects and variables. Check out my tutorials on each of these subjects if you need to review.

The Global Execution Context

Lets say that your band needs to do a family-friendly gig at the local park as part of a local fair. You need to choose the right type of music that will keep parents happy and also not offend anyone else.

Lets say that you choose to play some s...

Neuroprotective effects of Korean red pine bark extract and its phenolics. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  J Microbiol Biotechnol. 2018 Mar 15. Epub 2018 Mar 15. PMID: 29539881 Abstract Title:  Neuroprotective Effects of Korean Red Pine() Bark Extract and Its Phenolics. Abstract:  Korean red pine () is one of the majorspecies in Korea. Red pine barkis removed prior to the chipping process in the wood industry and discarded aswaste. However, red pine bark contains a considerable amount of naturally occurring phenolics including flavonoids and therefore may have a variety of biological effects. In this study, we investigated if Korean red pine bark extract (KRPBE) could protect neuronal PC-12 cells from oxidative stress and inhibit cholinesterase activity.Analysis of reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography results revealed four phenolics in KRPBE:vanillin, protocatechuic acid, catechin and taxifolin.Total phenolic and flavonoid contents of KRPBE were 397.9 mg gallic acid equivalents/g dry weight (DW) and 248.7 mg catechin equivalents/g DW, respectively. Antioxidant capacities of KRPBE measured using ABTS, DPPH, and ORAC assays were 697.3, 521.8, and 2,627.7 mg vitamin C equivalents/g DW, respectively. KRPBE and its identified phenolics protected against HO-induced oxidative cell death in a dose-dependent manner. Acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase, which degrade the neurotransmitter acetylcholine to terminate neurotransmission in synaptic clefts, were inhibited by treatment with KRPBE and its identified phenolics. Taken together, these results suggest that KRPBE and its constituent antioxidative phenolics are potent neuroprotective agents that can maintain cell viability in the context of oxidative stress and inhibit cholinesterase activity.

Pharma Backing of Advocacy Groups: A Call for Transparency "IndyWatch Feed Health"

From In light of the opioid crisis, lawmakers are growing increasingly concerned about financial conflicts of interest in patient advocacy groups. Ontario has enacted a new law requiring pharmaceutical companies to disclose payments made to such groups.

If I had my druthers consumer advocacy groups wouldnt need to take pharma money, but the majority do, said David Mitchell, founder and president of Patients for Affordable Drugs, one of the few advocacy groups that has pledged not to take industry funding (instead, like, they receive funding from donations, as well as the Laura and John Arnold Foundation).

But I dont think advocacy groups should stop taking pharma money. That would cripple their ability to provide important services like patient hotlines, family support, and patient education. But I also realize that money can be misused for things like training patient advocates to lobby for proposals that are in pharmas not patients best interests. Payments can be used to inhibit groups from criticizing pharma, or used to create front groups with fancy names that fight legislation that would hurt a companys profits.

But heres the key to disclosure: If we have full disclosure in ALL those areas, then each of us can give weight to those sources of information. Were better equipped to make up our own minds about whether what were hearing or not hearing is being influenced by corporate concerns or concerns for patients.'

The Concerned Parents Project March 16th "IndyWatch Feed Health"

Have you asked your child whats going on? Asking is very different from accusing or interrogating.

Have you had a quiet, compassionate, heart-to-heart conversation with your child in which you express your worries, announce your love, listen to your childs concerns, and collaborate with him or her on creating some strategies that might help your child deal with the problems that he or she is experiencing? Are you in the habit of checking in with your child so as to understand what he or she is thinking and feeling? If you havent gotten into that habit, wouldnt that be a great habit to cultivate?

Of course, your child may be close-lipped, have no way to express whats going, feel scared about pointing a finger, feel obliged to act like everythings okay, and in other ways prove uncommunicative or evasive. This will test your patience; therefore, you will need to be your most patient. Set up such chats so that you are undisturbed, maybe by making an outing of it or waiting until the younger kids are asleep. Even if a given chat goes nowhere, you are announcing that you are available for such chats and that your child can feel safe revealing whats bothering him or her. Wouldnt it seem rather odd to ask everyone under the sun whats going on with your child and not ask your child? Ask him or her first.

Laura Croft Explores Ruins of Empty Theater in Latest Tomb Raider "IndyWatch Feed Satire"

NEW YORK Following the breakout success of the recent video game reboot, the newest Tomb Raider movie is now sending Lara Croft on her most dangerous mission yet: to excavate the ruins of empty film screenings.

Deep within the concrete jungle of New York City, the expert archaeologist and skilled adventurer had just come across a hidden entrance to the ancient temple of Ah-Em-Ceh. Previously received intel from a contact of her late fathers led her to the long-deserted site, rumored to contain the lost relics of OsKar the Golden One.

Following a tight squeeze through collapsed pillars, Croft came across a series of increasingly complex puzzles and platform jumping challenges, ultimately leading her into the theaters inner sanctum. It was there that she encountered something more frightening than cultists and supernatural forces bent on world domination: a generic adventure movie with choppy pacing and boring action scenes.

Read More From Hard Drive:

It was truly horrifying, and Ive killed countless unaware guards in exceptionally brutal fashion, Croft muttered to herself, slowly lighting the damp torches that lined the rows of dusty recliner seats. Chunks of rushed exposition everywhere, with hollow set pieces and poorly choreographed fights ripped straight from the video game. I cant imagine the kind of sick person that would want to unleash this terror on the unsuspecting public.

Realizing that the ruins had nothing of educational value left to offer, Croft slowly made her way to the half glowing exit sign only to trigger a quick-time event and fall into a conveniently placed trap door.

69 year old Your Dad made the bizarre request on the way back from Tenerife after a 40 minute exercise to try and remember everyones orders causing the counter assistant to stare at him like she was trying to focus on one of those magic-eye pictures or divide 13 by 24.

He then went on to describe a beef burger that he would like that is not featured on any menu yet designed or in films, you recounted to someone afterwards. I mean why would you want mayo ONLY on the bottom bit of the bun and no tomato sauce but extra tomato and the gherkin placed next to but not in the f*cking thing? you mused rhetorically.

Then he asked if there was any milk in the milkshakes at which point she quite understandably called her manager and then security you added.  Im not bailing him its his own fault.

An in-depth guide to server rendering with React and React Router "IndyWatch Feed Education"

Server side rendering a React app can provide a few different benefits, including performance and SEO. The problem is that with those benefits comes a cost of additional complexity to your application. In this post, well start from scratch and slowly build a server side rendered React (with React Router) while breaking down some of the complexity as we go.

Ive created a video to go with this article if youd prefer that:

Server side rendering aka Isomorphic JavaScript aka Universal JavaScript is the pipe dream idea of running your same JavaScript code on both the server and the client. Why is that beneficial? Well, youll typically benefit from code reuse, improved performance, and SEO gains.

The more appropriate question is: are the benefits you gain worth the complexity youll add? When building a server-rendered app, there are more circumstances you have to consider. Which code will be shared? Is there initial state that needs to be shared? How do you handle routing on both the server and client?

Because all of these questions can be answered linearly, well take the same approach with this post. Well start off with the bare basics, solve it, then add in more complexity. By the end, youll be able to decide if the complexity trade-off of server rendering is worth it for your specific application.

If this is a new concept to you, its important to grasp the big picture of how all the pieces fit together before diving into the details.

Heres the (initial) process:

  1. A user types your URL into their web browser and hits enter.
  2. Your server sees there is a GET request for the path /.
  3. It renders your apps main component and wraps it inside of a standard HTML doc (DOCTYPE, html, head, body, and so on) and sends the whole thing back as a response.

4. The browser sees it got an HTML document back from the server, and its rendering engine goes to work. It soon finishes rendering the page.

5. At this point, the page is viewable and the browser starts downloading any scripts....

Chimaera represents a custom-blockchain ecosystem for a fully immersive gaming interface for gamers and developers. With Chimaera, online games can be built, published, and played directly on the blockchain-a-blockchain-based gaming system unrivaled by any current efforts.

Chimaera presents one such project with roots that could be considered ancient in the realm of cryptocurrency. The underlying technology, game channels, was coined and began development in 2015. Beyond this, the foundations for Chimaera date back to early 2013, with the documentation and initial developments of the first proof-of-concept.

Blockchain-based gaming was first introduced as a concept through ChronoKings, a blockchain-based MMO (massively-multiplayer online) forked from the Namecoin codebase. The game was announced on the Bitcointalk forums by the now-CEO of Chimaera, Andrew Colosimo, as a sandbox player-versus-player (PVP) real-time strategy (RTS) that would be broadcast and progressed directly upon the forked blockchain.

ChronoKings first established a concept later coined human mining.  Human mining is a game genre where cryptocurrencies are minted and distributed based on performance in the virtual game built on the network. The idea behind the gameplay is that players will fight to maintain control of harvest areas where coin rewards can be collected.

While ChronoKings represented a groundbreaking concept, the team behind it maintain broader visions. The ideology behind ChronoKings applied to a new project, The Huntercoin Experiment, which would encapsulate the fundamentals of its predecessor while expanding on the game itself and the technology behind it.

Huntercoin launched in early 2014 and received a great reception. Beyond the fundamentals proposed by Chronokings, players could fight against one another- potentially destroying opposing avatars and stealing their collected coins. Taxes from death and deposits would be paid to the miners, and pl...

The anxiolytic effects of cannabidiol in chronically stressed mice are mediated by the endocannabinoid system. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Neuropharmacology. 2018 Mar 3 ;135:22-33. Epub 2018 Mar 3. PMID: 29510186 Abstract Title:  The anxiolytic effects of cannabidiol in chronically stressed mice are mediated by the endocannabinoid system: Role of neurogenesis and dendritic remodeling. Abstract:  Repeated injections of cannabidiol (CBD), the major non-psychotomimetic compound present in the Cannabis sativa plant, attenuate the anxiogenic effects induced by Chronic Unpredictable Stress (CUS). The specific mechanisms remain to be fully understood but seem to involve adult hippocampal neurogenesis and recruitment of endocannabinoids. Here we investigated for the first time if the behavioral and pro-neurogenic effects of CBD administered concomitant the CUS procedure (14 days) are mediated by CB, CBor 5HTreceptors, as well as CBD effects on dendritic remodeling and on intracellular/synaptic signaling (fatty acid amide hydrolase - FAAH, Akt, GSK3 and the synaptic proteins Synapsin Ia/b, mGluR1 and PSD95). After 14 days, CBD injections (30mg/kg) induced anxiolytic responses in stressed animals in the elevated plus-maze and novelty suppressed feeding tests, that were blocked by pre-treatment with a CB(AM251, 0.3mg/kg) or CB(AM630, 0.3mg/kg), but not by a 5HT(WAY100635, 0.05mg/kg) receptor antagonist. Golgi staining and immunofluorescence revealed that these effects were associated with an increase in hippocampal neurogenesis and spine density in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus. AM251 and AM630 abolished the effects of CBD on spines density. However, AM630 wasmore effective in attenuating the pro-neurogenic effects of CBD. CBD decreased FAAH and increased p-GSK3 expression in stressed animals, which was also attenuated by AM630. These results indicate that CBD prevents the behavioral effects caused by CUS probably due to a facilitation of endocannabinoid neurotransmission and consequent CB/CBreceptors activation, which could recruit intracellular/synaptic proteins involved in neurogenesis and dendritic remodeling.

CBD-rich botanical extract may be beneficial for symptomatic treatment of ulcerative colitis. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Inflamm Bowel Dis. 2018 Mar 10. Epub 2018 Mar 10. PMID: 29538683 Abstract Title:  A Randomized, Double-blind, Placebo-controlled, Parallel-group, Pilot Study of Cannabidiol-rich Botanical Extract in the Symptomatic Treatment of Ulcerative Colitis. Abstract:  Background: Cannabidiol (CBD) exhibits anti-inflammatory properties that could improve disease activity in inflammatory bowel disease. This proof-of-concept study assessed efficacy, safety and tolerability of CBD-rich botanical extract in ulcerative colitis (UC) patients. Methods: Patients aged 18 years or older, with left-sided or extensive UC, Mayo scores of 4-10 (endoscopy scores1), and on stable 5-aminosalicylic acid dosing, were randomized to 10-weeks' CBD-rich botanical extract or placebo capsules. The primary endpoint was the percentage of patients in remission after treatment. Statistical testing was 2-sided, using a 10% significance level. Results: Patients were less tolerant of CBD-rich botanical extract compared with placebo, taking on average one-third fewer capsules, and having more compliance-related protocol deviations (principally insufficient exposure), prompting identification of a per protocol (PP) analysis set. The primary endpoint was negative; end of treatment remission rates were similar for CBD-rich botanical extract (28%) and placebo (26%). However, PP analysis of total and partial Mayo scores favoured CBD-rich botanical extract (P = 0.068 and P = 0.038, respectively). Additionally, PP analyses of the more subjective physician's global assessment of illness severity, subject global impression of change, and patient-reported quality-of-life outcomes were improved for patients taking CBD-rich botanical extract (P = 0.069, P = 0.003, and P = 0.065, respectively). Adverse events (AEs) were predominantly mild/moderate with many in the CBD-rich botanical extract group potentially attributable to the9-tetrahydrocannabinol content. A greater proportion of gastrointestinal-related AEs, indicative of UC worsening, was seen on placebo. Conclusion: Although the primary endpoint was not reached, several signals suggest CBD-rich botanical extract may be beneficial for symptomatic treatment of UC.

CBD was found to have potential benefits as add-on therapy for refractory childhood epilepsies. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Epilepsy Behav. 2018 Mar 8. Epub 2018 Mar 8. PMID: 29526578 Abstract Title:  Cannabidiol for treatment of refractory childhood epilepsies: Experience from a single tertiary epilepsy center in Slovenia. Abstract:  PURPOSE: Refractory epilepsies in children present a major burden for patients and their families. Cannabidiol (CBD) has been suggested as a potential treatment for refractory epilepsies. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of add-on therapy with CBD for the treatment of refractory childhood epilepsies.METHOD: Patients with childhood-onset refractory epilepsy, treated at the tertiary epilepsy center of the University Children's Hospital Ljubljana, Slovenia, were included in the study. Add-on therapy with CBD was initiated once the child's epilepsy was categorized as pharmacoresistant to other antiepileptic drugs/therapies. The dosage of CBD was gradually increased to at least 8mg/kg/day. The effect of CBD treatment was evaluated by the reduction in seizure burden and presence of side effects (positive and negative). Serial electroencephalography was performed in some children.RESULTS: Sixty-six patients were included in the analysis. Thirty-two (48.5%) patients had a more than 50% improvement regarding seizure burden, 14 of whom (21.2%) became seizure-free. None of the patients reported worsening of seizure frequency, but CBD had no effect in 15 (22.7%) patients. Some patients reported less vigorous seizures, shorter duration of seizures, shorter time to recovery, and other positive side effects of CBD treatment. Adverse effects were reported in 5/66 children.CONCLUSIONS: In our cohort of patients, CBD was found to have potential benefits as add-on therapy for refractory childhood epilepsies, mainly by reducing seizure burden.

Brazil-Based Startup to Give Freelancing Market a Blockchain Boost "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Brazil-based startup plans to rebuild its freelancing platform with the help of AI and the blockchain.

The company is already running a functioning minimum viable product (MVP) named Diarissima. Unlike many competitors, the site doesnt charge freelancers any fees for the jobs they complete.

Waste of resources

Now the company plans to replace its MVP with the new, blockchain-powered network. A key feature of the new platform is its algorithmic user reputation score.

The current labor relations are not enough to promote happiness and trust between people, generating friction and [] waste of resources, says the company in its white paper.

The platform targets the millions of freelancers employed in the so-called on-demand economy.

According to a report by US software company Intuit and market research company Emergent Research, there were 3.9 mln such workers in the US in 2017, representing 36% of the workforce. The number is expected to go up to 9.2 mln by 2021, making up 43% of the total workforce.

The platform was originally aimed at helping a specific segment of this economy, which the International Labor Organization (ILO) calls domestic workers. They include people engaged in a work performed in or for a household, such as cleaning, cooking, caretaking, etc.

Globally, the number of domestic workers stands at 67 million, ILO figures show.

More than any other country

The trend is especially pronounced in Brazil, where they were about seven million domestic workers, or more than in any other country in the world, according to the ILO.

Often times, the legislation does not protect domestic workers, making them one of th...

This came out and I found it via this SGTReport video, which I will post separately. Recall that the deep state operates with funding from drug sales and human trafficking, which, as I understand it, also includes the sale of human body parts. But human trafficking is a huge challenge in this planet, and it apparently is being addressed directly by President Trump. If you really believe nothing is going on to counter the deep state, then you may wish to read this article.

My Administration will focus on ending the absolutely horrific practice of human trafficking. And I am prepared to bring the full force and weight of our government, whatever we can do, in order to solve this horrific problem.

Human trafficking, also known as modern slavery, affects people from all backgrounds at home and abroad, placing millions into a sickening form of exploitation. Per the International Labor Organization, there may be as many as 24.9 million victims of forced labor across the world, with millions going unidentified and unseen. Children are especially vulnerable to this evil practice, as they account for 25 percent of modern slaves.

David Byrne Creates a Playlist of Creative Music From Africa & the Caribbeanor What One Nameless President Has Called Shithole Countries "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Image by LivePict, via Wikimedia Commons

However many shades of disgust may have run through me when a certain world leader referred to Haiti and countries in Africa as shitholes, within hours, my head was turned in every direction by defiant, creative responses to the morally bankrupt comment that exposed the thinking behind it as completely void of knowledge and respect for the vibrancy of the countries in question. However wearying this display of ignorance, it only threw into higher relief the vitality and resiliency of African and Caribbean countries.

Few American artists have been as tuned into, and influenced by, that vitality as deeply and for as long as David Byrne. His decades-spanning engagement with African, Caribbean, and Latin American music and his founding of world music label Luaka Bop give him as much credibility on the subject as any colonizer (as a certain Black Panther character might teasingly say). Byrne wrote on his website in sadness and anger in response to the infamous comment. In an attempt to co-opt the word, he shared a playlist of African and Caribbean music that he called The Beautiful Shitholes. The reference may seem trivializing, but his purpose was serious, as he outlined in his full comments.

The question Byrne asks is whether music can help us empathize with its makers? Many cultural critics might look around and shake their heads. Byrne leaves the question open. His angry note is direct and directive, but even he admits that its a moment to vent, not to resolve a moral crisis. Got that off my chest, he concludes, now maybe I can listen to some music. Whatever degree of power we may or may not have to change cruel, bigoted policies, we always have the choice to turn our backs to xenophobes and racists and our faces to the rest of the world. Byrne invites us to do just that.

The playlist starts with four tracks from Luaka Bop compilation albums of Cuban music, whose Afro-Cuban musical identity remained recognizable, the labels description notes, for "almo...

Cardano Price Technical Analysis ADA/USD Remains at Risk "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Key Highlights

  • ADA price declined sharply and is currently trading well below the $0.20 level against the US Dollar (tethered).
  • There is a short-term contracting triangle forming with resistance at $0.1800 on the hourly chart of the ADA/USD pair (data feed via Bittrex).
  • The pair remains at a risk of more declines if it fails to hold the $0.1650 support level.

Cardano price is under pressure against the US Dollar and Bitcoin. ADA/USD may correct a few points, but it could fail to move above the $0.18-0.19 resistance zone.

Cardano Price Support

The past few days were mostly bearish as ADA price declined below the $0.2000 support level against the US Dollar. The price extended losses and even closed below the $0.1900 level. The recent price action was bearish and the price traded towards the $0.1650 level. A low was formed at $0.1670 before the price started a tiny upside recovery.

It failed to even break the 23.6% Fib retracement level of the last downside move from the $0.2296 high to $0.1670 low. It seems like there is a short-term contracting triangle forming with resistance at $0.1800 on the hourly chart of the ADA/USD pair. The pair may continue to trade in a range and it could move above $0.1800. However, there is a crucial resistance near $0.1900. The mentioned $0.1900 was a support earlier and now it is likely to prevent gains. Moreover, the 38.2% Fib retracement level of the last downside move from the $0.2296 high to $0.1670 low is also around $0.191.

Cardano Price Technical Analysis ADA USD

Therefore, the $0.18 and $0.19 levels are important resistances. On the downside, the price should stay above the $0.1650 and $0.1600 levels. Should there be a break below $0.1600, the price could head towards the $0.15 level.

Hourly MACD The MACD for ADA/USD is mostly in the bearish zone.

Hourly RSI The RSI for ADA/USD is currently just below the 50 level.

Major Support Level...

Accessing the Closed off Industry with the Help of Blockchain and Smart Contracts "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Investing for future, whether it is to save for retirement or university fees for your child, is without a doubt a good idea. The major problem is navigating the sea, or better said, ocean, of investment firms, boutiques, and agencies who promise you the world, but, in the end, deliver very little except extortionate fees. You could, of course, turn to a mutual fund that will attempt to tailor your investment goals to the available investment strategies. However, once again you risk facing rather large fees which then eat into your underlying returns. At the same time, the ability to invest into other more highly specialized products, such as those offered by hedge funds, Private Equity (PE), and Venture Capital (VC), has been off-limits to many.

The team behind DarcMatter, which has already been operating for a number of years,  is now looking to combine the power of blockchain and smart contracts to create a fully operational global platform. This service will allow investors all around the world to access the alternative fund asset class in a transparent and secure fashion. Of course, this sounds like a great idea, but several questions jump to mind: does the team have the expertise to pull this off? Do they have the blockchain experience to create a token that will match the ambitions of the core team? And finally, why move into the blockchain world if their operations have been so successful?

But you neednt worry; the team and product are first-class. His skills are diverse, ranging from financial institution integration with SWIFT, to web development with European banks. The Philosophy Behind BITRUST Development "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Being serial entrepreneurs themselves, during their careers BITRUST leaders learned a thing or two about hows and how nots. The practical knowledge coming from personal wins and sometimes priceless failures is invaluable in building a new product and developing a company. Lets look at the principles used in everyday work at BITRUST and are important for its future success.

We can thoroughly study a work process or a new methodology in our attempt to become more productive and achieve better results. However, this is rather a complete mindset of the whole team that will lead a company to its breakthrough, says the CEO of BITRUST Alex Duhamel. Sharing, explaining, demonstrating and simply living the main principles is what Alex does every day.

Be fast and flexible or die

This is the law in current conditions of blockchain business development. For BITRUST, in our everyday work on the cryptocurrency insurance peer-to-peer marketplace, it means that the actual result in making one step closer to the minimal viable product, the first milestone to achieve, will always be more important than piles of software documentation.

This emphasis on speed and flexibility calls for a different approach to managing new product development. So, we work like explorers we make a hypothesis, test it in the shortest possible time, evaluate the result and build on it or move on. We cannot afford to go all in just to discover the platform could be executed in a better way in the end. It has to be perfect, Sergey Silin, the CTO of the company, shares his view on the topic.

Development of a BITRUST minimum viable product (MVP) to demonstrate user interface and specific features of the platform and collecting feedback from the cryptocurrency community for further refinement is planned for the 30th of September 2018. So, there is not a single minute to waste!

All strategies are transitional

Following from the previous principle, this statement is also about flexibility but in the managerial, sales and other strategies. Not only your product can and will change according to whats best, but also the strategy built around it. Its critical to change or divert both as soon as youll have determined they dont work anymore.

As the OpenView venture partner George Roberts rightly says: The startup graveyard is littered with businesses that struggled to do this. While its noble to stick to your gu...

Bad artists copy, great artists stealor, how to become a great designer "IndyWatch Feed Education"

At Mobile World Congress 2018, something strange and interesting happened. No, Im not talking about Samsungs new S9 and S9+ phones (though they are interesting, all right).

Im referring to the weird phenomenon of Android phone makers copying one of the iPhone Xs worst featuresits wildly controversial notch.

To provide some background, the iPhone X, released in late 2017, features an all-screen design except for a notch, a cut-out at the top of the screen, that houses all the sensors required for FaceID, its new facial authentication method.

At its worst, the notch represents a compromise that Apple took in its attempt to push for an all-screen design while requiring a set of sensors for facial authentication.

iPhone Xs notch houses a whole array of sensors that enable FaceID

Many of the new Android phones released in MWC2018 (as well as those slated to be released later in the year) feature a notch at the top of their screens. Asus Zenfone 5, Huaweis P20, Oppos R15, and Ulefones T2 Pro all seemed to have jumped on the bandwagon and decided on a top-notch design. Heck, even LGs rumoured G7 is likely to feature a cut-out at the top of its screen.

If you need more proof that notches are going to be a thing in Android smartphones, look no further than Android Ps beta, which has now added official support for displays with a cutout at the top.

The worst part? None of these phones house additional sensors in their notches to offer accurate facial recognition. In other words, these notches are purely cosmetic copies of the iPhone Xs design.

This brings to mind a quote popularised by Steve Jobs:

Good artists co...
