Democrat Lawmaker Will Try To Force The House To Vote To Impeach Trump TODAY "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

House Dem Sit-In

Texas representative, Al Green, a liberal lawmaker, says hell force the House to vote Wednesday on impeaching President Donald Trump. Despite suggestions from the Republicans and Democrats that he let it go, Green says hes going to move forward anyway.

Green says in a letter that hes wanting a vote on impeachment because we now have a bigot in the White House who incites hatred and hostility. But, even other Democrats agree that there is no evidence of impeachable offenses. House minority leader Nancy Pelosi even said that any impeachment effort should await hard evidence Trump has committed an impeachable offense.

According to USA Today, Greens resolution accuses Trump of causing harm to American society. It cites his support for banning Muslim immigrants and comments defending participants in a white supremacists rally after this years riot in Charlottesville, Virginia.  Green also argued that Trumps conduct in the White House (while admittedly not criminal) had amounted to high misdemeanor and warranted removal from the Oval Office. For too long, we have allowed our civility to prevent us from confronting the invidious incivility of President Donald J. Trump, he said.

But his impeachment vote doesnt have a chance at succeeding. Even if a majority of the House votes to impeach the president, the Senate would need a 2/3 majority in order for the motion to pass. Republicans control both houses right now.

Other Democrats have warned the prematurity of this vote could hinder any future chances of impeachment. Isnt it fascinating how now Democrats are...

Why Incompetent People Think Theyre Amazing: An Animated Lesson from David Dunning (of the Famous Dunning-Kruger Effect) "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

The business world has long had special jargon for the Kafkaesque incompetence bedeviling the ranks of upper management. There is the Peter principle, first described in a satirical book of the same name in 1968. More recently, we have the positive notion of failing upward. The concept has inspired a mantra, fail harder, fail faster, as well as popular books like The Gift of Failure. Famed research professor, author, and TED talker Bren Brown has called TED the failure conference," and indeed, a FailCon does exist, in over a dozen cities on 6 continents around the globe.

The candor about this most unavoidable of human phenomena may prove a boon to public health, lowering levels of hypertension by a significant margin. But is there a danger in praising failure too fervently? (Samuel Becketts quote on the matter, beloved by many a 21st century thought leader, proves decidedly more ambiguous in context.) Might it present an even greater opportunity for people to rise to their level of incompetence? Given the prevalence of the Dunning-Kruger Effect, a cognitive bias explained by John Cleese in a previous post, we may not be well-placed to know whether our efforts constitute success or failure, or whether we actually have the skills we think we do.

First described by social psychologists David Dunning (University of Michigan) and Justin Kruger (N.Y.U.) in 1999, the effect suggests that were not very good at evaluating ourselves accurately. So says the narrator of th...

A Toy Camera Film Festival Returns to Los Angeles "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Marc Bascougnano, still from Trois Plumes (Three Feathers) (image courtesy the artist and PXL This)

Introduced in 1987, Fisher-Prices PXL-2000 is a toy camcorder that records lo-fi, black-and-white videos onto audio cassettes. Although it was only on the market for a year, it has garnered an enthusiastic following in the ensuing three decades, finding popularity with everyone from children and amateur cineastes, to artists and experimental filmmakers like Sadie Benning and Joe Gibbons.

Now in its 27th year, the PXL This festival showcases the wide range of pixelvisions possibilities with over two dozen films, from the narrative to the abstract, absurd to enigmatic. Highlights include David Witzings To the Inland Ocean, a two-part nature film that combines still shots in color, with pixelated black-and-white footage of sublime seascapes, and Eli Elliotts Orpheus 5, a combination of found footage and Paul McCarthy-style abjection. Relatively cheap and easy to use, the PXL-2ooo offers anyone with an idea the opportunity to become an auteur, providing the missing link between DIY punk cinema and todays digital directors.

From Times Union: Joseph L. White, a psychologist, social activist, and teacher who helped pioneer the field of black psychology, has died at age 84.

In the midst of the civil rights and black power era of the 1960s, White campaigned for what is now known as cross-cultural psychology that took into account the perspectives and needs of ethnic minorities. In 1968, White then dean of undergraduate studies at San Francisco State and other black psychologists formed the Association of Black Psychologists.

They were angry at the way mainstream psychology took what they considered a white Western worldview that ignored or misunderstood black culture and lifestyles. The field also was dominated by a prejudiced view of African-Americans.

When the Mad Research the Mad "IndyWatch Feed Health"

In this piece for Asylum Magazine, Sue Phillips, Penny Stafford, and Shirley Anne Collie discuss their involvement in a participatory action research project evaluating the Mad Peoples History and Identity course at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh.

There was a general feeling of a sense of community, with some people stating the course had changed their lives! We wanted to better understand the motivations, experiences and impact of being involved in Mad Studies on mad-identified students. A MPHI course lecturer, who identifies as Mad + and as an ally of mad-identified people, and who had also been part of the original steering group, invited all the QMU students to work on a participatory action research proposal with her so as to explore the experiences and impacts of the course on students. The lecturer is also using the PAR research for her PhD.

It was important to us for the research to be in keeping with the course by developing peoples skills and building on a newfound sense of community. We wanted to break down the gap between researchers and those being researched, just as the course aimed to blur the lines between lecturers and students, and we thought it vital to bring the message of the course to people in other parts of the university.

Cash After the Collapse: 6 Multi-Purpose Preps You Need in Emergency Supplies "IndyWatch Feed Food"

coffee1
Hopefully, our readers will not suffer indigestion of their holiday meals or have a damper placed upon the holiday largesse of gift-giving and happy moments.  After all, a potential nuclear war or EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse) attack should never interfere with the memories being collected in the new pages of the scrapbook album.  Still, if you have the time to tear yourself away from the holiday treadmill, you may wish to consider taking some actions that may benefit you later on.

Gathering supplies is one of the hallmarks of the modern prepper and survivalist.  We are going to suggest a few that have dual roles: for barter (primary) and for use (secondary).  That being said, many of us are short on storage space and are looking to find preps that serve multiple purposes will help you make the most of the space you have. Now, there are some of you that may not agree with adding these preps, but then again, that is your choice.  They are being presented here as another option for you to pursue.  Were going to list those reasons behind each: primary will be barter with an explanation, and a secondary (your personal use) will be explained.

6 Multi-Purpose Preps You Need In Your Prepper Supplies

  1. Cigarettes: About 5 to 10 cartons, staggered between your most popular types (such as Marlboro, Camel, etc. You can also purchase tobacco in bulk qualities and repackage it in Mylar bags for long-term storage. Primary: For use as barter. Especially for those who do not smoke, they can be a gold mine to obtain something from those who do smoke. Secondary: Tobacco has medical use as an anti-helminthic (fights worms) and also a peripheral vasoconstrictor. It can be used as a bug repellant on plants when the nicotine is extracted by soaking it in alcohol and then sprayed.
  2. Alcohol: Stagger the amounts: minimum of (5) fifths of grain alcohol, (5) of Scotch, (5) of Vodka, and (5) of Gin. Many preppers suggest finding smaller bottles (Similar to the ones used on airplanes). As well, consider adding an alcohol still to your preps to make your own. Primary: For use as barter in small increments for those who need it for a responsible reason, or as a fifth for a big tradesomething that someone has that you r...

Balancing the Chakras to Relieve Migraines "IndyWatch Feed Food"

If you are open to trying a nontraditional method to relieve your migraines, balancing the charas is a completely safe and often effective option to consider. The word chakra is Sanskrit for wheel. The chakras, which run from the base of the spine to the crown of the head, are the seven main energy centers in the body. Each chakra is the energy center for a different part of the body or body system and affects the energy flow of both physical energy and emotions.

Migraine headaches may be a side effect of blocked or unbalanced chakras. Migraines can be relieved, and possibly even cured, without the use of the prescription drugs by clearing and balancing the migraine sufferers chakras. The two chakras most related to migraines are, as you would expect, located in the head.

To find out about the all-natural method that can eliminate both migraine andd frequent headaches as soon as TODAY, click here!

Ajna, which is Sanskrit for command, is the sixth of the seven main chakras. It is also known as the brow chakra or the third eye. It is located in the center of the forehead between the eyes. This chakra is linked to the pineal and pituitary glands. Migraines are considered to be a sign of blocked or unbalanced Ajna chakra by some.

Sahasrara, or the thousand-petalled lotus, is the seventh of the seven main chakras. It is also known as the crown chakra since this chakra is located on top of the head and includes the entire crown area. This chakra works with the root chakra to balance energy throughout the body. Stress, fatigue, sleep disorders, and migraines are all associated with a blocked or unbalanced Sahasrara chakra.

Meditation is an excellent ways to balance the chakras of the head. This video provides a chakra meditation for balancing and healing.

MARS WARS: 'Cannonball' found on Red Planet 'proof Martian civilisation wiped out by war' "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Alien conspiracy theorists have zoomed in on a bluish-looking spherical object, which appears to look out of place among the rest of the reddish rocks, with one claiming it is 100 percent evidence there was a major war on Mars.

The image was taken by NASAs Curiosity Rover droid, which is currently exploring the surface of Mars and beamimg back close-up images, which the US space agency releases for public viewing.

Alien hunters then scour them for signs of life with previous claims of everything from fossils, buildings, and even Earth-like living creatures being found.

At the forefront of this pseudo-research is Scott C Waring, editor of website Ufosightingsdaily.com.

He has previously claimed to have found a decapitated soldier complete with crown, that he hailed the slain King of Mars, amid claims he had been defeated in battle.

In a recent post he claimed NASA had tried to make it difficult for people to now access this image online, but he was still able to locate it.

Various conspiracy theories have abounded for years that there was once an ancient civilisation on Mars that was wiped out by some alleged intergalactic nuclear war, which destroyed the Martian atmosphere, making it uninhabitable.

The new cannonball has only fueled the theory.

Mr Waring blogged that the cannonball must have been one of thousands fired at the planet to destroy its atmosphere.

He said: This metal ball is perfectly formed and about the size of a softball here on Earth.

Guess what? That also matches the size of a cannon ball.

The ball was first highlighted by YouTube channel WhatsUpInTheSky37 which made it more grey to show it against the red rocks.

Mr Waring added: This projectile is sitting on the surface above all the wrecked stone structures around it.

Fragments of a once civilisation is sitting scattered in tiny pieces around this cannon ball.

I do believe these balls and millions of others were deliberately shot at Mars from space all at once to destroy their atmosphere, burn it away.

What I mean is a large enough man made meteor shower could strip Mars of its atmosphere and thus, destroy all or most life on the planet surface.

His far-fetched theories appear to stem more from a vivid imagination, than anything beyond the apparent shape in the picture.

In fact, the spherical objects are a natural phenomenon so common on Mars that NASA has already given...

TGE Postponed! CryptoKitties Clogged Ethereum Network "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

SophiaTX, ethereumJaroslav Kacina, CEO SophiaTX

I never thought Id say this, but, due to a digital kittens gaming application clogging the Ethereum Network (yes really) the SophiaTX Token Generation Event will be postponed for 48 hours and rescheduled for Thursday, December 7th, 2017 at 2 PM UTC (Coordinated Universal Time).

First of all, this unfortunate circumstance is beyond our control and I am sorry for any inconvenience this may cause to our community! The team here at SophiaTX is working around the clock to ensure a successful TGE launch, however, merely hours before the start time, the entire Ethereum network slowed down and brought issues due to the success of a gaming application running on their platform called CryptoKitties.

The networks performance reached a critical point, slowing down confirmations and creating a major backlog of transactions which impact everyone on the network.

The recent incident demonstrates why we have chosen to build SophiaTX as a proprietary blockchain technology. Businesses require sufficient speed, security, and features that are needed for a mainstream adoption by businesses, currently not provided by either Bitcoin, Ethereum and others.

We have decided to delay the TGE start by 48 hours because a very large number of participants will use ETH during and it would be a major disappointment if their attempted contributions wouldnt be processed timely and that would result in a significant backlog of transactions with very long waiting times. This is particularly valid, since our TGE is time sensitive, with the lowest price being in the first round and a 10% increase for subsequent rounds thereafter.

To ensure fairness and equal opportunities for all participants regardless of which currency they use (BTC, ETH or DCT) we have rescheduled our TGE by 48 hours later, hoping the backlog will decrease. All other aspects, other than the start date of the TGE will remain unchanged, only the start and end date is changed.

For those interested in our project, we suggest watching Coin Interview published yesterday and all other info provided in in our whitepaper on sophiatx.com

Who knew that adorable CryptoKitties could cause a major traffic jam? I guess thats why Im more of a dog person!

I hope to see you all this Thursday at 2 PM (UTC)! Until then, have a great day and keep a close watch on...

The Vibrant Color Wheels Designed by Goethe, Newton & Other Theorists of Color (1665-1810) "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Maybe its the cloistered headiness of Rene Descartes, or the rigorous austerity of Isaac Newton; maybe its all the leathern breaches, gray waistcoats, sallow faces, and powdered wigs but we tend not to associate Enlightenment Europe with an explosion of color theory. Yet, philosophers of the late 17th and 18th centuries were obsessed with light and sight. Descartes wrote a treatise on optics, as did Newton.

Newton first described in his 1672 Opticks the revolutionary new theory of light and colour, the University of Cambridge Whipple Library writes, in which he claimed that experiments with prisms proved that white light was comprised of light of seven distinct colours. Scientists debated Newtons theory well into the 19th century.

One early opponent famously illustrated his rebuttal. Poet, writer, and scientist Johann Wolfgang von Goethe published Theory of Colors (see here), with its carefully hand-drawn and colored diagrams and wheels, in 1809. From Newton's time onward, color theorists elaborated prevailing concepts with color wheels, the first attributed to Newton in 1704 (and drawn in black and white, above).

15 Old-Fashioned Dating Habits That Need to Make A Comeback "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

The world today has changed significantly from the atmosphere of the 1960s and 1970s, a time when men would go out of their way to show their respect and care for the women around them through chivalrous actions such as holding the door, pulling out her chair or offering their coat if the evening got cold. These men took pride in their reputation, focusing on coming across as a true gentleman regardless of what situation they may find themselves in.

Today many men find themselves intimidated by the emerging strength and independence among the female population. Todays women know what they want, and they are willing to stand strong and fight for it, even if it means waiting longer than anticipated for their happily ever after. Driven by Hollywoods tales of romance, many women long for that perfect partner to whisk them off their feet, carrying them away to a bright and joyful future together.

Are you interested in being her prince charming? Try these 15 old-fashioned dating tips that still work today:

#1 Begin by asking her out on a date.

Dont just hint, or beat around the bush actually look her in the eyes and ask her out on a date. Doing so will ensure that you are all on the same page. This will alleviate the confusion of not knowing where you stand, making it clear that you are interested in pursuing something serious.

#2 Dont expect sex at any stage in a relationship.

It doesnt matter how long you have known one another, or what stage you are at in your relationship. At no time are you entitled to have access to her body unless she chooses to share it with you. Dont push the fact, and it will be worth it when that time comes.

#3 Put away your phone.

Our cell phones have become such an integral part of our lives today that many of us struggle to put them down for more than a few seconds at a time. Dont allow this distraction to destroy your connection. Instead, actively remember to focus on her.

#4 Dont overuse the phrase I Love You.

The trend line is positioned just below the 38.2% Fib retracement level of the last drop from the $339 high to $268 low. Moreover, the 100 hourly SMA is at $300 to act as a major barrier for buyers.

Bitcoin Gold Price Technical Analysis BTG USD

Therefore, it seems like the $285-300 levels are important resistances in the near term. On the downside, the price might test the last swing low of $250-260. The mentioned $250-260 area is significant support and must prevent further declines in bitcoin gold price.

Looking at the technical indicators:

Hourly MACD The MACD for BTG/USD is currently in the bearish zone.

Hourly RSI (Relative Strength Index) The RSI for BTG/USD is near the oversold levels.

Major Support Level $260

Los Angeles Times Staffers Push to Unionize the Newsroom "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

Journalists at the Los Angeles Times have announced plans to form a union and join more than 25,000 fellow media workers already represented by the NewsGuild-Communications Workers of America. The newsroom committee organizing the push for a union made their efforts public in a one-page letter left on employees desks on the night of Oct. 3.

The letter included a list of conditions the committee wanted to negotiate including annual staff-wide pay raises, guaranteed minimum salaries, accrued vacation for all employees and equal pay for men and women as well as minorities.

Major newspapers such as the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and Baltimore Sun (also owned by L.A. Times parent company Tronc) are currently represented by the union.

I think its the right time for us to do this because people have really reached their limits, a Times staffer said, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. The letter was more of a signal to management that this was serious and that it was gaining a lot of momentum. It was a really tangible opportunity for us to reach out to Tronc and let them know we want to try to work more collaboratively on newsroom decisions.

The source added that a majority of the newsroom was in favor of the idea and estimated that a couple hundred people had signed union cards. The push to unionize began late last year after a couple employees reached out to the NewsGuild-CWA. According to the same staffer, management was aware an organizing effort had been taking place prior to the public announcement made in October.

A lot of departments had meetings where their managers told them that they had heard about a union effort and laid out all the downsides, the source said. It was pretty boilerplate, anti-union stuff.

In one of the flyers distributed by Times management, employees were urged not to be misled by the guilds promises.

Making promises during a union organizing campaign is a very common tactic used by the NewsGuild to win your support, the flyer said. Remember, the Guilds promises are just thatcampaign promisesjust like those you hear from politicians.

Legendary Trader Expects Bitcoin Price to Hit $14,000 in 2018, Analysts Argue it Will be Faster "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Peter Brandt, a highly respected and experienced trader, believes the bitcoin price could surge up to $14,000 in 2018. However, the majority of analysts in the cryptocurrency space see the price of bitcoin surging beyond $40,000.

Bitcoin Heading Towards $18,000

Over the past month, the price of bitcoin has increased from around $7,000 to $12,500, by nearly two-fold. The market valuation has surpassed the $200 billion mark, and is moving closer to $210 billion.

If the price of bitcoin had increased by more than $5,000 within a 30-day period without major events or developments, it would be fair to claim that the short-term surge in value is a bubble and a large price correction is due.

However, the price of bitcoin has increased to $12,500 within a month-long period because of the optimism around the entrance of institutional investors. Billionaire hedge fund investor Mike Novogratz noted that a herd of institutional investors are moving into the bitcoin market, while Brian Armstrong, the CEO at $1.6 billion bitcoin brokerage Coinbase, stated that $10 billion in institutional money is awaiting to be invested in bitcoin.

Over 100 hedge funds have been created in the past year exclusively to trade digital currency. An even greater number of traditional institutional investors are starting to look at trading digital assets, wrote Armstrong, emphasizing that a large portion of the traditional finance sector has already made a move into the cryptocurrency market.

Armstrong added, by some estimates there is $10 billion of institutional money waiting on the sidelines to invest in digital currency today.

Given the markets enthusiasm towards the launch of bitcoin futures exchanges by CBOE and CME Group, two of the worlds largest options exchanges, Brandt stated that the price of bitcoin will either achieve $14,000, or experience a minor correction to $9,200 and head to $14,000.

These findings provided a theoretical basis that melatonin mitigated sodium fluoride induced hepatotoxicity. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Free Radic Biol Med. 2017 Nov ;112:616-630. Epub 2017 Sep 11. PMID: 28912098 Abstract Title:  Melatonin-mediated upregulation of Sirt3 attenuates sodium fluoride-induced hepatotoxicity by activating the MT1-PI3K/AKT-PGC-1 signaling pathway. Abstract:  Mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) production has been implicated in the pathogenesis of fluoride toxicity in liver. Melatonin, an indolamine synthesized in the pineal gland, was previously shown to protect against sodium fluoride (NaF)-induced hepatotoxicity. This study investigated the protective effects of melatonin pretreatment on NaF-induced hepatotoxicity and elucidates the potential mechanism of melatonin-mediated protection. Reducing mitochondrial ROS by melatonin substantially attenuated NaF-induced NADPH oxidase 4 (Nox4) upregulation and cytotoxicity in L-02 cells. Melatonin exerted its hepatoprotective effects by upregulating Sirtuin 3 (Sirt3) expression level and its activity. Melatonin increased the activity of manganese superoxide dismutase (SOD2) by promoting Sirt3-mediated deacetylation and promoted SOD2 expression through Sirt3-regulated DNA-binding activity of forkhead box O3 (FoxO3a), thus inhibiting the production of mitochondrial ROS induced by NaF. Notably, increased peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1 (PGC-1) by melatonin activated the Sirt3 expression, which was regulated by an estrogen-related receptor (ERR) binding element (ERRE) mapped to Sirt3 promoter region. Analysis of the cell signaling pathway profiling systems and specific pathway inhibition indicated that melatonin enhances PGC-1 expression by activating the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. Importantly, inhibition of melatonin receptor (MT)-1 blocked the melatonin-activated PI3K/AKT-PGC-1-Sirt3 signaling. Mechanistic study revealed that the protective effects of melatonin were associated with down-regulation of JNK1/2 phosphorylation. Our findings provided a theoretical basis that melatonin mitigated NaF-induced hepatotoxicity, which, in part, was mediated through the activation of the Sirt3 pathway.

Using React with Next.js Framework Made My Life Easier "IndyWatch Feed Education"

Photo by Farhan Siddicq on Unsplash

This is not your regular React vs Vue.js vs Angular comparison. We have enough of those from people much more involved in the subject.

Lets just say everyone has its own preference. I prefer React over other libraries and frameworks for building user interfaces. And after I explain why, maybe you too will switch to React, if you dont use it already.

A few months ago I was a looking for a boilerplate or a starter kit for React. I yearned for something simple and dependable. After a long and thorough search I found what I was looking for. Its a framework called Next.js.

It had a bunch of stars on GitHub, which is always a big plus for me. This means the project presumably has a future and a community you can turn to, if you need help.

Right on top of the readme file you will find a link to learnnextjs.com. A short tutorial that teaches you how to use Next.js in about an hour. I dont mean an introduction, you can genuinely start building your app. Its awesome!

Why Next.js?

I find Next.js is much simpler and effective than its alternatives.

Create React App has even more stars on GitHub and promises no build configuration. Still, its not as simple as it looks. You need to learn client-side routing, page layout and so on; not to even mention server rendering.

Not with Next.js, you love working with it in a matter of hours.

More and more people like Vue, even if its still inferior to React and Angular in some aspects. Because its straightforward you can get the most done with it in the shortest amount of time. For me, Next.js closed this gap between React and Vue, sykrocketing React to the top.

Vue seems like a good alternative, what about Angular?

Both are chart-topping frameworks, with excellent support, performant and future-proof. But I wouldnt choose either one over React coupled with Next.js.

Vue

I have always perceived Vue as the most appropriate for entry-level apps and websites. Even still, as I wrote a couple of paragraphs before, React in combination with Next.js is effortless. A childs pl...

Abstract:  The hypothesis that aging and regular physical activity could influence oxidative stress has been studied by comparing antioxidant activities (superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPX), glutathione reductase (GR), ascorbic acid and-Tocopherol) and malondialdehyde level (MDA) in four groups: young sedentary (n=15; age: 20.32.8 years; YS), young active (n=16; age: 21.41.9 years; YA), old sedentary (n=15; age: 65.13.5 years; OS) and old active (n=17; age: 67.24.8 years; OA). Antioxidant activities and MDA level were assessed at rest and after an incremental exercise. There was no difference in resting antioxidant activities and lipid peroxidation between YS and OS. However, resting SOD and GR activities were higher in YA compared to OA (p

Vitamins can prove to be useful agents capable of modifying the life cycle and biology of M. tuberculosis. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Int J Mycobacteriol. 2017 Oct-Dec;6(4):328-332. PMID: 29171444 Abstract Title:  Role of Vitamins B, C, and D in the fight against tuberculosis. Abstract:  Worldwide, tuberculosis (TB) is still a serious and significant health concern, more so with the emergence of multidrug-resistant-TB. The inability of mankind to control this infection stems from the fact that the vaccines and drugs that were once effective against TB are no longer efficacious. This has led to a search for new antituberculous agents and adjuvant therapy. Vitamins are being revisited for their role in pathogenicity as well as for their antimycobacterial properties. Vitamins such as biotin and thiamin are essential for Mycobacterium tuberculosis and are required for establishment of infection. On the other hand, vitamins such as Vitamin C and Vitamin D have been shown to possess antimycobacterial properties. To combat M. tuberculosis, innovative strategies need to be devised, keeping in mind the efficacy of the agent to be used. Vitamins can prove to be useful agents capable of modifying the life cycle and biology of M. tuberculosis. We present here a brief overview of the available knowledge on thiamin, biotin, Vitamin C, and Vitamin D, keeping TB treatment and control in perspective.

I'm looking into getting my house off grid. Currently, I spend more in fees and the minimum charge than I do in the actual electricity I burn. Most months, I'd pay about $45 if I pulled the main breaker for a month. Most months my total bill is about $85. It's a bit more in winter, as much as $100-130, maybe. I heat my house with space heaters at the moment, so that could be even lower.

Abstract:  We investigated the effects of feeding vitamin C (Vit C) during neonatal and juvenile growth on learning and memory of rats. Rats after delivery were randomly divided into four groups and treated. Group 1, control group, received normal drinking water. Groups 2-4 received Vit C 10, 100, and 500 mg/kg, respectively, from the first day. After 8 weeks, 10 male offspring of each group were randomly selected and tested in the Morris water maze (MWM) and passive avoidance (PA) tests. Finally, the brains were removed for biochemical measurement. In MWM, 10-500 mg/kg Vit C reduced the latencyand traveled distance and increased time spent in the target quadrant. In PA, 10 and 100 mg/kg of Vit C increased the latency; 10-500 mg/kg of Vit C decreased the malondialdehyde (MDA) in the brain tissues and increased thiol and catalase (CAT) activity compared to the control group. We showed that feeding rats Vit C during neonatal and juvenile growth has positive effects on learning and memory.

Parity Hack And Impact On Ethereum Blockchain "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

In November 7, a vulnerability in the Parity wallet contract was found. Parity wallets that were created after July 29 were frozen and hence inaccessible. According to Parity Technologies, a total of 573 wallets have been affected and the total balance is still unknown. This attack on Parity took place 5 months after another similar attack in July 2017. What is surprising is that Parity still has not audited the smart contract even after the first attack in July which is the usually the norm in the blockchain community.

According to Motherboard, Parity, the digital wallet company knew about the flaw since August but did not address the issue. This causes a lot of concern about the irresponsible nature of the Parity team. The Parity platform is built on the Ethereum blockchain and this hack may cause the Ethereum foundation to lose its competence. The co founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin, posted a tweet distancing himself from the Parity hack.

Response from Parity

Since the November 7th hack, parties involved with the Parity network have termed the incident as an accident and not giving it the seriousness it deserves. On November 13th, the networks team sent out a message to the stakeholders not to believe what is being said out there about the hack and that the team was doing all it can to unfreeze the funds. They are terming the hack as just a mere speculation when there is actually evidence that the actions of devops199 the hacker, were actually intentional. According to a post on Medium, the hack was deliberate and the hacker was not an inexperienced guy, but someone with in-depth knowledge in Ethereum.

Effects of the Hack

Only Parity Technologies will be able to access the databases and determine how much is at stake after more than 500 wallets were frozen. The victims will have to just wait for an indefinite period of time before the case is solved, if at all it could be solved. Trust is among the most important traits any blockchain technology should build with its users.  If a network keeps on having the same mistakes and large amounts of money is lost, the credibility of the network and the team might be lost. Popov, who first flagged the hack as a malicious attack and the CEO of Cappasity, has warned that the trust the Parity team had created might vanish if they do not handle the situation urgently.

It is now a matter of time, as the community anxiously waits to see how the whole issue will pan out. The result, irrespective of whether it is positive or negative will have a long lasting effect on Ethereums future as the preferred platform for dApps and blockchain projects.

Russell Davis, Natural News 12-5-17 Drink coffee, live longer: Recent research finds 3 cups daily reduces the risk of death from ALL causes "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Well this is not why I personally drink coffee and have mochas, etc., etc. I love the flavor of coffee and have been drawn to it for some years now, and have loved trying variety after variety after variety.

Ive known about the health benefits of coffee for several years, ever since doing research on it back in the early 2000s. Having studies on real people which back this up is more information that may help people get over the idea that coffee is just a source of caffeine.

So drink it or dont drink it. But when you do, know that you may also be benefiting from the health benefits of coffee.

Drinking up to three cups of coffee daily may improve longevity and reduce the risk of all-cause mortality, according to a study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine [they] examined the beneficial effects of coffee consumption among people across 10 European countries including the United Kingdom, Denmark, France, and Italy The study has found out that coffee drinkers have exhibited healthier livers and better glucose control compared with non-drinkers. In addition, the scientists have observed a similar effect after consuming decaffeinated coffee.

We found that higher coffee consumption was associated with a lower risk of death from any cause, and specifically for circulatory diseases and digestive diseases. Importantly, these results were similar across all of the 10 European countries, with variable coffee drinking habits...

Ascorbic acid attenuates senescence of human osteoarthritic osteoblasts. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Int J Mol Sci. 2017 11 24 ;18(12). Epub 2017 Nov 24. PMID: 29186811 Abstract Title:  Ascorbic Acid Attenuates Senescence of Human Osteoarthritic Osteoblasts. Abstract:  The accumulation of senescent cells is implicated in the pathology of several age-related diseases. While the clearance of senescent cells has been suggested as a therapeutic target for patients with osteoarthritis (OA), cellular senescence of bone-resident osteoblasts (OB) remains poorly explored. Since oxidative stress is a well-known inducer of cellular senescence, we here investigated the effect of antioxidant supplementation on the isolation efficiency, expansion, differentiation potential, and transcriptomic profile of OB from osteoarthritic subchondral bone. Bone chips were harvested from sclerotic and non-sclerotic regions of the subchondral bone of human OA joints. The application of 0.1 mM ascorbic acid-2-phosphate (AA) significantly increased the number of outgrowing cells and their proliferation capacity. This enhanced proliferative capacity showed a negative correlation with the amount of senescent cells and was accompanied by decreased expression of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in cultured OB. Expanded cells continued to express differentiated OB markers independently of AA supplementation and demonstrated no changes in their capacity to osteogenically differentiate. Transcriptomic analyses revealed that apoptotic, cell cycle-proliferation, and catabolic pathways were the main pathways affected in the presence of AA during OB expansion. Supplementation with AA can thus help to expand subchondral bone OB in vitro while maintaining their special cellular characteristics. The clearance of such senescent OB could be envisioned as a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of OA.

Sodium fluoride induces renal inflammatory responses and reduces anti-inflammatory cytokine expression in mice. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Oncotarget. 2017 Oct 6 ;8(46):80192-80207. Epub 2017 Jul 5. PMID: 29113295 Abstract Title:  Sodium fluoride induces renal inflammatory responses by activating NF-B signaling pathway and reducing anti-inflammatory cytokine expression in mice. Abstract:  Fluoride is widely distributed in the environment and often results in adverse health effects on animals and human beings. It has been proved that fluoride can induce inflammatory responses in vitro. However, very limited reports are focused on fluoride-induced inflammatory responses in vivo. In this study, mice were used to investigate sodium fluoride (NaF) induced renal inflammatory responses and the potential mechanism by using the methods of pathology, biochemistry, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and western blot. A total of 240 ICR mice were randomly divided into four equal groups: the control group and three experimental groups (NaF was given orally at the dose of 0, 12, 24 and 48 mg/kg body weight for 42 days, respectively). The results showed that NaF in excess of 12 mg/kg induced the renal histopathological lesions, and inflammatory responses via the activation of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-B) signaling pathway and the reduction of anti-inflammatory cytokines expression. The activation of NF-B signaling pathway was characterized by increasing the nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) contents, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) activities and mRNA expression levels, andthe mRNA and protein expression levels of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), tumor necrosis factor- (TNF-), interleukin-1 (IL-1), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and interleukin-8 (IL-8) in three NaF-treated groups. Concurrently, the mRNA and protein expression levels of the anti-inflammatory cytokines including interleukin-4 (IL-4) and interleukin-10 (IL-10) were decreased in three experimental groups when compared with those in the control group.

Still the most beautiful thing Ive ever seen "IndyWatch Feed Satire"

This plaque on a bench in north London went viral all over again after it was tweeted by @RuthanneReid.

The bench in a park in north London is the work of author Jamie Maslin, who told Buzzfeed all about it.

The name Roger Bucklesby sounded quintessentially British and somehow irritable and Victorian. Old Roger lifted my spirits and soon we were working on his backstory a prolific author but never published, getting bitterer and bitterer with every failed submission. At first he came to the park for inspiration but eventually he began to resent the place for encouraging him to chase his dreams. It gave us such a good laugh (and cheered me up immensely) that we decided to get the plaque made.

Alas we might have some bad news.

Ripple Price Technical Analysis XRP/USD To Decline Further "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Key Highlights

  • Ripple price is struggling to remain above the $0.2400 support and moved below $0.2380 against the US Dollar.
  • This is a major bearish trend line forming with resistance at $0.2450 on the hourly chart of the XRP/USD pair (data source from Kraken).
  • The pair might decline further and it could even test the $0.2300 support in the near term.

Ripple price is under pressure against the US Dollar and Bitcoin. XRP/USD might extend its decline and trade towards $0.2300 or $0.2200.

Ripple Price Resistance

There was no major upside move in Ripple price above the $0.2500 level against the US Dollar. The price struggled to remain above the $0.2500 level and started a downside move. During the downside move, there was a break below a couple of important supports such as $0.2450 and the 50% Fib retracement level of the last upside wave from the $0.2200 swing low to $0.2670 high. The worst part was a close below $0.2450 and the 100 hourly simple moving average.

It seems like the price could continue to move lower towards $0.2300 in the near term. The next major support is near $0.2316 and the 76.4% Fib retracement level of the last upside wave from the $0.2200 swing low to $0.2670 high. However, there are chances of it declining back towards $0.2200 in the near term. On the upside, there is a major bearish trend line forming with resistance at $0.2450 on the hourly chart of the XRP/USD.

Ripple Price Technical Analysis XRP USD

The trend line resistance near $0.2450 is also around the 100 hourly SMA. Therefore, any major recovery should be limited by the $0.2450 level in the short term.

Looking at the technical indicators:

Hourly MACD The MACD for XRP/USD has now moved from the bullish to bearish zone.

Hourly RSI (Relative Strength Index) The RSI for XRP/USD is now well below the 50 level and heading down.

Major Support Level $0.2300

Major Resistance Level $0.2450

Finally, all the info in one place.

Authors pointless babbling:

I spent two full days figuring this all out the first time. Its actually really easy once you know how, but the information was so fragmented it took forever to put the pieces together.

Then I forgot to write it down. Then I went out and drank a bunch of beer to celebrate putting it together, and probably screwed up my memory of the process. A month later, I went to do it again and um uh hmmm SHOOT!

So here it all is in writing for the benefit of you and my future self. Past Self: Sorry current self.

Actual useful information:

Firebase Setup:

Go to firebase > gear > project settings.

Add an iOS app

Click ADD APP and select iOS. Add your app id like com.example.myapp from config.xml to Firebase. Click register app.

Download the GoogleService-Info.plist file and put it in the root folder of your project.

The .plist file doesnt magically go to the right place in your iOS folder like the docs say it does. Well, actually, it does, but it goes in malformed.

Youll need to manually copy it from the projects root folder to the Resources folder in Xcode. In OSX, you can alt drag it from finder to Xcode to copy it.

But dont do that yet because we need to add the plugin to the build first! If you already did, dont worry, it wont be the last time. Youll need to manually copy it every time you remove and re-add your iOS app.

Heres the sneaky part that took me 10 hours to figure out. I swear Im not dumb, I just could not find this in any of the other docs. And of course, like most of the really annoying problems I run into, its iOS only. I didnt say that out loud, did I?

Will Most Sunscreens Be Eventually Banned? "IndyWatch Feed Fertility"

By Dr. Mercola

Oxybenzone (benzophenone-3)1 is one of the most common ingredients found in sunscreen products. Its primary function is to prevent your skin from absorbing ultraviolet (UV) light. Since the chemical is cost effective and increases the sunblock protection in a sunscreen product, it can be found in nearly 3,500 brands of sunscreen worldwide.2

If you reapply the product every two hours as directed, an average day at the beach may mean you are exposed to 2 to 4 ounces of a product containing chemicals known to disrupt human hormones.3 Studies have also suggested oxybenzone is a hormone disruptor in marine creatures.4

Although much media attention is focused on oxybenzone, other chemicals in sunscreens trigger damage to human health and the environment. These include octinoxate, which has demonstrated hormone disruption in animals and behavioral alterations, homosalate, which is unstable and breaks down in the sun, and avobenzone that may damage sperm.5

As you swim, sunscreen is released into the water, necessitating reapplication. However, this release also dumps up to 14,000 metric tons of product into coral reef areas each year.6 Much of the sunscreen contains oxybenzone that may damage marine life at levels as low as 62 drops per trillion, or the equivalent of one drop in 6.5 Olympic-sized swimming pools of water.7

In an effort to protect the coral reefs surrounding the Hawaiian Islands, democratic state senator for Hawaiis 19th District, Will Espero, has introduced legislation that would ban the use of sunscreen that contains oxybenzone on the Islands in an effort to protect the surrounding coral reefs.8

Are Your Unscented Products Truly Fragrance-Free? "IndyWatch Feed Health"

By Dr. Mercola

Nearly 13,000 chemicals are used in cosmetics and personal care products, but only 10 percent have been tested for human safety. The average American woman uses 12 personal care products or cosmetics every day that contain approximately 168 different chemicals. While men use fewer products and are exposed to nearly half the number of chemicals than women, teens use more products and are exposed to even more chemicals.1

Your personal care products are applied on an active, living and complex organ system. Your skin is not just a covering for your body, but rather provides temperature regulation, protection, and can produce vitamin D when exposed to the sun. The nerve cells that are packed over the expanse of your body act as messengers to your brain and are a crucial part of your ability to interact with the world.

Your skin may also be used to deliver medications as whatever you put on your skin can be absorbed. For instance, nicotine patches or pain medication patches deliver drugs directly into your bloodstream as they pass through your skin. The same may happen with the personal care products you use. If the molecules are small enough to be absorbed, they migrate through the skin and directly into your blood.

Analysis of Popular Moisturizers Finds an 83 Percent Failure Rate

Many cosmetics and personal care products on the market advertise they are fragrance-free and hypoallergenic to increase their consumer base and include customers who are concerned about chemicals. Like many dermatologists, Dr. Steven Xu, a dermatologist at Northwestern University Hospital, was asked almost daily about the moisturizers or sunscreen that would work best for sensitive skin.2

One year ago, Xu led an analysis of popular sunscreen products and discovered nearly half failed to meet basic sun safety guidelines set by the American Academy of Dermatology.3 The guideline failure fell under the category of being water or sweat resistant.4 During the study, the researchers found consumers made their decision about sunscreen predominan...

Big Sugar Buried Evidence to Hide Sugar Harms "IndyWatch Feed Health"

By Dr. Mercola

A number of recent investigations have revealed a significant truth: The sugar industry has long known that sugar consumption triggers poor health, but hid the incriminating data, much like the tobacco industry hid the evidence linking smoking to lung cancer. The most recent of these investigations, based on unearthed historical documents, found the sugar industry buried evidence from the 1960s that linked sugar consumption to heart disease and cancer.

The research didnt see the light of day again until Cristin E. Kearns, assistant professor at UCSF School of Dentistry, discovered caches of internal industry documents stashed in the archives at several universities. The unearthing of these documents has resulted in three separate papers showing how the industry has systematically misled the public and public health officials about the dangers of sugar.

Emails obtained by Freedom of Information Act requests have also revealed Coca-Colas corporate plan to counter dietary warnings against soda consumption tactics that include reshaping existing data and creating new studies, working with scientific organizations and influencing policymakers.1 All in all, the evidence clearly reveals that the food industry has but one chief aim, and that is to make money, no matter what the cost to human health.

Sugar Industry Influenced Dietary Recommendations

In 2016, Kearns and colleagues published a paper2 in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Internal Medicine, detailing the sugar industrys influence on dietary recommendations. In it, they revealed how the industry has spent decades manipulating, molding and guiding nutritional research to exonerate sugar and shift the blame to saturated fat instead. As reported by The New York Times:3

The documents show that a trade group called the Sugar Research Foundation, known today as the Sugar Association, paid three Harvard scientists the equivalent of about $50,000 in todays dollars to publish a 1967 review of research on sugar, fat and heart disease.

The studies used in the review were handpicked by the sugar group, and the article,4 which was publish...

Exploring the Linguistics Behind Regular Expressions "IndyWatch Feed Education"

How a linguistic breakthrough ended up in code

Regular expressions inspire fear in new and experienced programmers alike. When I first saw a regular expressionoften abbreviated as regexI remember feeling dizzy from looking at the litany of parentheses, asterisks, letters, and numbers. Regular expressions seemed nonsensical, impenetrable.

I expected regular expressions to crop up again in my upper-level computer science courseworkmaybe by then Id finally feel ready to tackle thembut I encountered them in an introductory class that I had put off until my senior year. The purpose of this course was to draw students who had never written a line of code into CS by introducing them to concepts like cryptography, human-computer interaction, machine learningyou know, only the latest and greatest of tech buzzwords.

I didnt attend more than a handful of lectures, but one of the assignments stuck with me. I had to write an essay about a famous computer scientist or academic whose work impacted computer science. I chose Noam Chomsky.

Little did I know that learning about Chomsky would drag me down a rabbit hole back to regular expressions, and then magically cast regular expressions into something that fascinated me. What enchanted me about regular expressions was the homonymous linguistic concept that powered them.

I hope to spellbind you, too, with the linguistics behind regular expressions, a a backstory unknown to most programmers. Though I wont teach you how to use regular expressions in any particular programming language, I hope that my linguistic introduction will inspire you to dive deeper into how regular expressions work in your programming language of choice.

To begin, lets return to Chomsky: what does he have to do with regular expressions? Hell, what does he even have to do with computer science?

A Computer Scientist By Accident

Wikipedia christens Noam Chomsky as a linguist, philosopher, cognitive scientist, historian, social critic, and political activist, but not as a computer scientist. Because he is so highly regarded in all of these fields, his indirect contributions to the field of computer science often fall by the wayside.

The more I researched Chomskys academic work, the more accidental Chomskys foray into computing seemed. This affirmed my belief that all fieldseven those that appear disparate from computer sciencehave something to offer to computing and the tech industry.

His contributions to the field of linguistics in particular exemplify the impact of interdisciplinary research on computer science. The Chomsky h...

Why Software Documentation Is Part Of Accessibility [with examples] "IndyWatch Feed Education"

Accessibility is mostly discussed as a way to enable people with disabilities to use a tool (website, application, etc.) with as little information loss as possible. However, the accessibility needs of users who dont have any disabilities but experience other kinds of hardships are less widely discussed.

The lack of knowledge on a given subject is such a hardship, therefore providing quality technical documentation to users is an essential part of accessibility. In case of open-source tools, its probably even more important, as here, users dont simply want to use the tool but many of them would also contribute to the code.

If you have ever had to use poorly documented software you know what I am talking about. Boring, badly structured, and user-hostile documentation can make people give up on a tool, just like an overly complicated purchasing process can result in shopping cart abandonment on eCommerce websites.

Two types of technical documentation

Essentially, there are two types of technical documentation (however, you might find more, for instance this article mentions eight types):

  1. documentation created for end-users
  2. documentation created for developers

End-user documentation

Companies tend to focus more on end-user documentation; you can find nice and user-friendly examples of this kind of docs. However, even the best designed end-user docs tend to lack crucial accessibility features (e.g. sufficient color contrast, or captioning for instructional videos).

For instance, have a look at Salesforces Learning Centre. Overall, they did a great job with the docs. The information is well-structured and logical, and the docs dont use too much technical jargon.

On the other hand, you will find that some of the necessary accessibility features are lacking, for example, links are distinguished only by color instead of providing a non-color designator such as an underline.

Developer documentation

Technical documentations created for developers had been in a poor state for many years. They didnt simply lack accessibility features but were also badly structured, used unreadable fonts and small line height, lacked table of contents, and were visually unappealing on the whole.

The rise of video tutorials made the scene of developer docs much better, as at about the same t...

Blockchain-based Nova-Token Platform Set to Launch ICO "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Digital card games are an untapped billion dollar market, with potential for further growth. In fact, this sector is projected to grow by 40 percent between 2017 and 2020. Up until now, there have been few advances to enhance online card gaming and buying. The Nova Blitz team is about to change that.

What is Nova Blitz?

Nova Blitz is a revolutionary real-time trading card game, with fast-paced gameplay, strategy, mind-games and bluffing. Participants play simultaneously and can react to each others every move in real-time. And, in combat, hidden attack and block orders let you bluff and counter-bluff your opponent.

Nova Blitz is live now on Steam, and in beta for both Android and iOS. Both Richard Garfield, the creator of Magic: The Gathering, and Skaff Elias, the creator of the Magic Pro Tour, provided consultation during the development of Nova Blitz.

What is the Nova Token Platform?

The Nova Token Platform is a Blockchain-based card gaming platform, where players can use Nova Token to create, sell and trade cards in any card game. Not only that, but players can also earn cards through a proof-of-stake concept. The platform enables users to trade cards, earn new ones and participate in tournaments.

Currently, players are only able to rent cards, the authenticity of these cards is questionable, they are difficult to sell or trade and players are not able to benefit financially from a centralized card-trading system. On Nova Token Platform, players can use Nova Token to own the cards and trade them freely, be assured that these cards are authentic and benefit from the decentralized nature of the platform.

Benefits for players and developers

The platform goes beyond simply gaming and card trading, as it harnesses the advantages of Blockchain technology to provide enhanced security for the card trading and holding. It is the only platform where gamers will actually own their cards. Additionally, the decentralized nature of the platform allows players to partake in the profits, unlike its centralized counterparts.

Developers stand to benefit quite a bit from the innovative structure of the Nova Token Platform. First of all, they can earn up to 90 percent of the revenue from Nova Token sales. Second, they can integrate any game into the tournament and card trading infrastructure. Third, they have automatic access to the Nova Token Platform player base. Finally and most importantly, developers can be eligible for funding for their projects.

Proof-of-stake and card trading

This mechanism works for cards in the same way that it works for tokens. The more Nova Tokens a player holds,...

5 Crucial Decisions That Can Change Your Life "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

In this life, we face many tough decisions every single day. Some of these decisions are small, and others can literally change everything.

Below you will find a list of the most universal decisions we all have to make at some point in our lives. These decisions are, in my opinion, the ones that can and will make the biggest differences in life. These decisions shape who you are and where you end up on your journey with the Universe. (These are in no specific order.)

5 Decisions That Change Our Lives We All Have to Make:

1. Deciding what you are passionate about

In life, there is always something we are passionate about. Sometimes we struggle with deciding just what that is, but once we figure it out things change. Passion is important when it comes to true happiness. What you are passionate about might not be something I am passionate about but it is still something that matters.

2. Deciding when and if you want to make your own family.

Figuring out if you want children at all is a big thing. The decisions to have kids can change a lot in your life. However, I am not downing those who choose to reproduce, your life is yours and yours alone if you want to be a parent, go for it.

I feel like this one is something that should go without saying, but a lot of people dont realize how big of a decision it truly is. It can change who you end up with and where you go in life. It really puts a lot of things into perspective.

3. Deciding what you want to do in life.

Deciding what kind of career you want or where you want to go can make an enormous difference in your life. When it comes to this I suggest chasing your dreams no matter where they bring you; after all, you only live once.

4. Deciding who to build a life with.

Figuring out who you want to spend the rest of your life with is a complicated decision. For some people, it may come easy, but for most, it is filled with a lot of mistaken true loves and failed relationships. However, in the end, you will know when you have found the one you were meant to be with.

5. Deciding to not give your energy to those who arent worth your time.

This is a decision that most people forget to make. It is one that should honestly be made before the rest but tends to be overlooked. I made the decisions to only put work into those who truly care long ago and I am so much better for it.

You cant give your all to someone who wont even look in your direction, it is damning in the worst k...

US Government Employees Banned From Traveling To West Bank Or Jerusalems Old City "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

In anticipation of violent protests erupting over the expected move of the US embassy in Israel, Government employees and their families have been forbidden to travel to Jerusalems Old City or the West Bank.

The US Consulate General in Jerusalem also advised US citizens to be careful if traveling through those areas.

In a statement on Tuesday, the State Department said that government officials and their families are not permitted until further notice to make personal trips to those areas, given widespread calls for demonstrations stating on Dec. 6.

Sputnik news reports: Demonstrations are expected to begin on Wednesday after US President Donald Trump reportedly told Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas that he would move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, formally recognizing the ancient city as the capital of Israel.

The Israeli government has declared the entirety of Jerusalem the single and indivisible capital of Israel, a move not recognized by any other state. Getting the US to support their edict has long been seen as the white whale of Israeli politics.

The Western Wall in Jerusalem is the holiest site in all of Judaism, but the city is also host to the third holiest site in Islam, the Al-Aqsa Mosque. East Jerusalem, which hosts the Old City, the Western Wall and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, was occupied by Israel in 1967 and effectively annexed in 1980....

ONE-THIRD of all Navy brass caught in huge foreign bribery scandal (biggest in U.S. military history) "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Submitted by our military friend, Rogue Saber 1

Hundreds of military officials including some of the highest-ranking brass in the Navy are accused of helping a shadowy Asian merchant fleece Uncle Sam for tens of millions of dollars and you probably havent heard a peep about it.

Its called the Fat Leonard scandal, and the investigation into bribes and corruption one of the biggest in U.S. military history. The Navy has investigated 440 people, including 60 admirals, for possibly taking bribes in exchange for phony government contracts and sweetheart deals.

That means the Navy suspects that up to one-third of all its admirals were on-the-take from a foreign agent.

Fat Leonard is Leonard Glenn Francis a 63, 360-pound Malaysian businessman who makes his money servicing naval vessels in the Pacific.

He bribed the Navys elite with the finer things in life that only a crooked businessman could provide: Money, the finest liquor, luxurious trips for their families.

And, of course, prostitutes. Lots of prostitutes.

In exchange, Navy leaders would steer huge government contracts to his firm, Glenn Defense Marine Asia (GDMA).

Are Root Canals Really a Cause of Cancer?

Are Root Canals a Cause of Cancer?
Dr. Weston Price was one of the first researchers to understand the association between root canals and illness. Specifically that root canals can cause the destruction of systemic health and the development of chronic illness. Many doctors today believe that root canals are the infected sites of origin which promote the decline in immunity and systemic health.
Given the well-established link between root canals and illness can root canals cause cancer?
Root Canals Promote Secondary Infections
The nerve and dental decay from a damaged tooth is removed during a root canal. In theory, the chemical solution used to disinfect the area is designed to get rid of bacteria that may linger and cause further infections. But can all bacteria truly be eradicated?
Root canals seem to only place a bandage over a life threatening problem, and more appropriately merely delay the onset of major health issues. Unfortunately there is an underlying misconception that infective agents such as microbes, fungi, and viruses are successfully disinfected within teeths gums. However, there are miles of microscopic tubules which are never exposed to sanitizing chemicals.
In studies, up to 50% of the pathogenic bacteria population remained following treatment with the common disinfectant sodium hypochlorite. Adding human error to the equation, secondary health complications arising from root canals seem more likely...

Posted by Lon Strickler Taken from the Phantoms and Monsters sitehere and here,

In recognition of the 15th Annual Mothman Festival, I am offering a previously posted & unedited accountwhich generated a lot of response from the readers:
I received this account from a friend (DR) who had previously shared her paranormal experiences with me. The following remarkable narrative may very well add credence to the Mothman phenomena and, frankly, I have no reason not to believe the story. I have not edited the original text except for a few minor errors. I realize that the allegory is a bit hard to follow at certain spots, but I wanted to save the integrity of the writers thoughts and emotion. This narrative was originally posted a few years ago and resulted in quite a bit of feedback. Mothman author/researcher Andy Colvin also received a similar account, a few weeks after it was sent to me. He later referenced the account during a radio interview. For those who have not read this narrative, I would encourage your comments and input:

In 1967, two weeks before the collapse of the Silver Bridge in Point Pleasant, WV a phone call came to our house south of Lancaster, Ohio. It was from dads friends in southwestern W.Va. Someone else in our house answered the phone because my dad was busy watching the evening news, so he yelled to answered it to ask them what they wanted. The answer was that they had some trouble over in W.Va. and needed dad to come down. He asked what the trouble was and the person on the other end said it was a big bird. Well, wed just seen a piece on this on the news and the anchor who reported it laughed about it. Dad laughed and said that was a good one and to tell the person this and then hang up.

A short time after the phone rang again. This was when long distance cost an arm and...

What exactly IS the multiverse?

The multiverse is the hypothetical set of possible universes, including the universe which we live in.

Yosef Update - "Miracle or Madness" - December 5,2017 "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Received via email from Yosef......

Theres fine line between miracles and madness. Were walking that tightrope now.

But be not afraid, theres a wonderful conclusion to this global three ring circus of hell being proposed.

With respect to events in Israel and Palestine, there appears to be great consternation.

Theres not.

I know it looks that way, I know its scary.  But if you equate it to North Korean nuclear rocket threat to the US embassy moving to Jerusalem , you can see the clear false narrative parallels.

Know that Russia and China cleared out North Korean nuclear weaponization a decade earlier.

In a similar fashion, the United States, China, Turkey and Iran along with Russia special forces embedded in the region silently have all worked together to clear out Israeli Mossad threats once poised to attack the region.

Mossad has been neutralized militarily and politically, certainly monetarily.

Whats left is a battle for perception, not survival.  The Arab world is in on the slow death of Israeli strength pageant now playing out.  All for the greater good.  All to distract the Middle East away from the financial reforms forthcoming.

Just as North Korea deflects attention away from Asian nations during the RV.  Just as Brexist and NATO issues caused by Trumps antics have deflected European attention off the event.

Its all part of s larger, global flash bang strategy to usher in the RVnot delay it.

Here in the United States, take your pick distractions Russian collusion, Trumps mafia finances, sexual assulats by Congressmen, White Supremacy elections, DACA, Tax Bills passing Congress that are wildly unpopular, Native American Indian land being given back to Anglos in Utah....

I mean seriously, its distraction overload.  By design.  All to pull attention away from the RV and onto Trumpthe common villain.  Smart.  Annoying.  Happening.

So the more chaotic things get, the closer we get to pay dirt.  Sobeit.  Beitso.

Try not to get too worked up by the senseless Internet chatter.  98% of it false, and the other 2% half false, making 1% of everything youre reading irrelevant.

Again, this is all by design for global social media distraction purposes.

To understand just how close we are to redemption, one must look only at timeline structure, not the hot post top of the day.

Bitcoin Price Technical Analysis for 12/06/2017 Approaching Full Extension "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Bitcoin Price Key Highlights

  • Bitcoin price has successfully broken to new highs and is setting its sights on the full extension of the latest move.
  • Price has also surged past the 76.4% extension and a couple of technical indicators show that the climb could go on.
  • The full extension is located at $12,689.54 at which profit-taking could happen.

Bitcoin price seems unstoppable in its climb yet again, paving the way for a potential rally to the next major resistance level.

Technical Indicators Signals

The 100 SMA is safely above the longer-term 200 SMA, so the path of least resistance is to the upside. This means that the uptrend is more likely to persist than to reverse. The gap between the moving averages is also widening to reflect stronger bullish momentum.

Stochastic, however, has been indicating overbought conditions for quite some time. The oscillator also looks ready to turn lower to reflect a return in selling pressure.

RSI, on the other hand, is still pointing up to signal that there is enough bullish momentum left for more gains. This is also near overbought levels, though, so profit-taking is likely to happen sooner or later.

Market Factors

Excitement is running high on the launch of CBOE bitcoin futures, which would come ahead of the CME launch and that of Nasdaq. This would give more investors access to bitcoin on the retail level, thereby pushing activity and volumes higher.

Recall that the addition of 100,000 accounts on Coinbase leading up to the Thanksgiving weekend was enough to buoy bitcoin price higher for a few days, which signals that this influx of investor interest could lead to the same result. Traders are likely positioning ahead of the actual event but any setbacks could still lead to a large dip.

Rabbi Warns Rare 9-Hour Rainbow in Taiwan Sign of Our Dangerous Times "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Rabbi Warns Rare 9-Hour Rainbow in Taiwan Sign of Our Dangerous Times

A new record was set last Thursday when two scientists in Taiwan recorded a rainbow that lasted an incredible nine hours.  Chou Kun-hsuan and Liu Ching-huang, both professors in the Department of Atmospheric Science at the Chinese Culture University, were observing a rainbow for their studies last week when gradually, they realized that something very unusual was going on. Rainbows typically last much less than an hour, so they were shocked when the colorful phenomenon they were watching so carefully failed to dissipate. According to Chou, the rainbow started at 6:57 AM and lasted until 3:55 PM,

or 8 hours and 58 minutes. If confirmed, this will shatter the previous record set in Wetherby in Yorkshire, United Kingdom on March 14, 1994, which was recorded as lasting from 9 AM to 3 PM, or 6 hours. Rainbows are a powerful symbol in the Torah, the postdiluvian sign of Gods promise to Noah that He would never again destroy the world through flooding. When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between Hashem and all living creatures, all flesh that is on earth. Genesis 9:16. READ MORE

These results show that sodium fluoride can reduce blood cellular and humoral immune function in mice. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Oncotarget. 2017 Oct 17 ;8(49):85504-85515. Epub 2017 Aug 10. PMID: 29156736 Abstract Title:  Effects of sodium fluoride on blood cellular and humoral immunity in mice. Abstract:  Exposure to high fluorine can cause toxicity in human and animals. Currently, there are no systematic studies on effects of high fluorine on blood cellular immunity and humoral immunity in mice. We evaluated the alterations of blood cellular immunity and humoral immunity in mice by using flow cytometry and ELISA. In the cellular immunity, we found that sodium fluoride (NaF) in excess of 12 mg/Kg resulted in a significant decrease in the percentages of CD3+, CD3+CD4+, CD3+CD8+ T lymphocytes in the peripheral blood. Meanwhile, serum T helper type 1 (Th1) cytokines including interleukin (IL)-2, interferon (IFN)-, tumor necrosis factor (TNF), and Th2 cytokines including IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, and Th17 cytokine (IL-17A) contents were decreased. In the humoral immunity, NaF reduced the peripheral blood percentages of CD19+ B lymphocytes and serum immunoglobulin A (IgA), immunoglobulin G (IgG) and immunoglobulinM (IgM). The above results show that NaF can reduce blood cellular and humoral immune function in mice, providing an excellent animal model for clinical studies on immunotoxicity-related fluorosis.

Fancy a Caribbean Island? You Can Now Buy the Corner of One for Bitcoin "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

If you started mining or investing in Bitcoin years ago, and held on to them until today, its likely that youre sitting on a fairly sizeable fortune. You might have heard about the examples of real estate being sold around the world for BTC and be interested in relocating yourself. But where to go?

Well, there was the modestly priced house in Grimsby that hit the market earlier this year. However, a pokey terraced house is hardly going to match up with the size of your stack. Maybe you saw the Moscow mansion, complete with Turkish baths, an open-air Jacuzzi, and snow room, and thought youd love something like that. Russia does sound a little chilly though. What you really need is a place in the sun. Somewhere with azure surf gently lapping away at endless white beaches. Somewhere like the Caribbean, perhaps?

Fortunately, one company is offering just that. The curiously titled Bloody Bay Company are offering up a corner of the beautiful Union Island in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. For 600 BTC you can take ownership of the slice of land, complete with a brand new single-family home designed by Seth Stein Architects. The company have put forward two potential blueprints for the property, in either a stone mansion style, or more rustic cabin. Either design will come complete with a huge beachside terrace for those lazy days by the sea as well as an enormous glass front to admire the view that Bitcoin bought.

Whilst the property and land isnt quite the complete James Bond villain-esque private island, it is relatively exclusive. There are just 3,000 residents on it, and adjacent land masses in the Caribbean archipelago have been used as additional pads for the highest echelon of celebrity were talking the likes of Mick Jagger, David Bowie, and Sir Richard Branson here.

Interestingly, Architectural Digest report that the Bloody Bay Company will only accept Bitcoin for the purchase of the Caribbean paradise. Even amounts exceeding the value of 600 Bitcoin (almost $7.5 million at the time of writing) will be rejected. This means that the eventual buyer will either need to have been an early miner or investor in BTC, or else pay some extremely hefty fees to an exchange or brokerage to arrange such a large order of Bitcoin.

Curiously, youd expect a real-estate company like Bloody Bay to be wary of assets with potentially overpriced valuations, given the kinds of bubbles that have gone on in housing markets over the years. Given the terms of the sale, however, its obvious that its Bitcoin that theyre after, and theyre clearly anticipating an appreciation in v...

Maternal fluoride exposure during gestation and lactation decreased learning and memory ability of mouse pups. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Hum Exp Toxicol. 2018 Jan ;37(1):87-93. Epub 2017 Feb 13. PMID: 29187078 Abstract Title:  Maternal fluoride exposure during gestation and lactation decreased learning and memory ability, and glutamate receptor mRNA expressions of mouse pups. Abstract:  Previous investigations demonstrated that high fluoride (F) exposure may adversely affect the neurodevelopment and learning and memory ability. However, whether maternal F exposure during gestation and lactation can influence the learning, memory ability, and glutamate receptor expressions of offspring has not yet been elucidated. Hence, in the present study, maternal mice were exposed to F (25, 50, or 100 mg/L sodium fluoride (NaF) in drinking water) during gestation and lactation. Results showed that exposure to 100 mg/L NaF significantly enhanced the number of total arm entries and working memory errors of offspring in the radial arm maze test compared to the control group. However, no difference was observed in open-field behaviors. For the subtypes of glutamate receptors in hippocampus, expression of GluR2 mRNA was significantly reduced by 25, 50, and 100 mg/L NaF. Besides, F exposure also suppressed the expression of NR2A, NR2B, and mGluR2 mRNA levels in a dose-dependent manner, where NR2A was significantly suppressed by 50 mg/L NaF and NR2B and mGluR2 by 100 mg/L NaF. However, no significant changes were observed in GluR1 and mGluR5 mRNA expression levels. Collectively, these findings suggested that F can pass through the cord blood and breast milk and may have deleterious impact on learning and memory of the mouse pups, which was mediated by reduced mRNA expression of glutamate receptor subunits.

Imports From China Hit Record High As U.S. Trade Deficit Continues To Explode "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Imports From China Hit Record High As U.S. Trade Deficit Continues To Explode

(By Michael Snyder) It should upset you that virtually everything stocking the shelves of our major retailers seems to have been made somewhere else.  As a nation, we are consuming far more wealth than we are producing, and that is a recipe for national economic suicide.  This week we learned that imports from China hit an all-time record high in October, and that was one of the primary reasons why our trade deficit hit a staggering 48.7 billion dollars during that month.  Year after year we buy far more stuff from the rest of the world than they buy from us, and this is systematically impoverishing us.  Let me put this another way.

The amount of money that leaves our country each month is far greater than the amount of money that comes into it.  When you grasp this concept, it becomes easy to understand why major exporting nations such as China have become so wealthy, and why we are drowning in debt. Sadly, most Americans dont understand the trade deficit, and so they dont understand how important news like this really is.  The following comes from Bloomberg The U.S. trade deficit widened in October to a nine-month high on record imports that reflect steady domestic demand, Commerce Department data showed Tuesday. Sodium bicarbonate supplementation is associated with a decrease in electronegative LDL in chronic kidney disease patients. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Cardiorenal Med. 2017 Oct ;7(4):334-341. Epub 2017 Aug 17. PMID: 29118772 Abstract Title:  One-Year Conservative Care Using Sodium Bicarbonate Supplementation Is Associated with a Decrease in Electronegative LDL in Chronic Kidney Disease Patients: A Pilot Study. Abstract:  Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients develop metabolic acidosis when approaching stages 3 and 4, a period in which accelerated atherogenesis may ensue. Studies in vitro show that low pH may increase low-density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation, suggesting a role for chronic metabolic acidosis in atherosclerosis. The present study attempted to evaluate the effects of conservative care using oral sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) supplementation on the electronegative LDL [LDL(-)], a minimally oxidized LDL, plasma levels in CKD patients. Methods: Thirty-one CKD patients were followed by a multidisciplinary team during 15 months of care in which 1.0 mmol/kg/day oral NaHCO3 supplementation was first given in the third month. Blood samples were collected 3 months before the initiation of oral NaHCO3 supplementation (T1), at the time of the beginning of supplementation (T2), and thereafter, each 4 months (T3, T4 and T5) until month 15 of care. Blood parameters and LDL(-) were measured from these collections. Results: After 12 months of conservative care, creatinine clearance (MDRD) was kept stable, and serum bicarbonate (HCO3-) increased from 20.5 2.9 to 22.6 1.1 mM (p

Does Your Diet Success Depend On Your DNA? "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

by Karen Foster; Prevent Disease

Weight loss strategies are effective if they are customized to on an individual's biomarkers to use personalized nutrition to help people achieve greater weight loss success. We can add one more thing to the list of traits affected by genetics: how our bodies respond to a particular diet.

Research with different genetics shows that one diet really doesn't fit all, and what works for some may not be best for others, according to a Texas A&M study published in the journal Genetics.

When it comes to diet, focusing on successes rather than failures is always a recipe for progress.

Biologists have suspected for years that some kind of epigenetic inheritance occurs at the cellular level. The different kinds of cells in our bodies provide an example. Skin cells and brain cells have different forms and functions, despite having exactly the same DNA.

"Dietary advice, whether it comes from the United States government or some other organization, tends to be based on the theory that there is going to be one diet that will help everyone," said David Threadgill, PhD, with the Texas A&M College of Medicine and College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, senior author of the study. "In the face of the obesity epidemic, it seems like guidelines haven't been effective."

Chemo FAIL: Toxic Chemotherapy Found To Impair Memory, Concentration, And Brain Function While Having Little Or No Long-Term Effect On Cancer "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

by: Russel Davis; Natural News

A study carried out by researchers at the Aarhus University has revealed that chemotherapy affects brain network and impairs cognitive function. As part of the study, a team of health experts enrolled a total of 64 men who underwent testicular cancer surgery. The researchers noted that 22 of these men had chemotherapy following their operation, while 42 patients had surgery alone.

The participants were then subjected to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at the start of the study and after six months. The volunteers also underwent a series of neuro-psychological tests to assess their memory and concentration. The results showed that patients in the chemotherapy groups fared worse than those who did not have the cancer treatment.

According to the researchers, patients in the chemotherapy group exhibited worse cognitive performance and function after six months. The research team had also observed that chemotherapy patients displayed significant memory loss and difficulties in managing ordinary tasks or concentrating. Likewise, data from brain scans revealed that patients who underwent chemotherapy had severe reductions in the brains network capacity.

Viscum album extracts seems to have a positive potential in malignant cutaneous melanoma. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Medicine (Baltimore). 2017 Nov ;96(46):e8731. PMID: 29145317 Abstract Title:  Complete remission and long-term survival of a patient with melanoma metastases treated with high-dose fever-inducing Viscum album extract: A case report. Abstract:  INTRODUCTION: Metastatic malignant cutaneous melanoma (MCM)-a highly immunogenic cancer-typically has a poor prognosis. Viscum album extracts (VAEs) have strong immune-stimulating, apoptogenic, and cytotoxic effects.CASE PRESENTATION: A 66-year-old MCM patient with newly diagnosed lymph node metastases opted for sole VAE treatment. VAEs were initially applied subcutaneously, and then later in exceptionally high, fever-inducing doses, both intravenously and intralesionally. The metastases shrunk over the following months, and after 2 years, all lesions had completely remitted (regional and hilar lymph nodes). The patient has been tumor free for 3.5 years at the time of publication (and for 5 years since initiation of intensified VAE treatment). Besides fever and flu-like symptoms, no side effects occurred.DISCUSSION: We presume that VAE triggered an increased release of tumor-associated antigens, enhanced immunologic recognition, and increased immune response against the tumor tissue and induced tumor remission.

Archaeologists in California Unearth a Large SphinxFrom the Set of The Ten Commandments "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

by Brigit Katz; smithsonian.com

Director Cecil B. DeMille gave the order for the entire set be buried beneath the sand after shooting on the blockbuster concluded

Archaeologists digging amidst the dunes of Californias Santa Barbara County recently unearthed a miraculous find: an intact, 300-pound sphinx head. Just what was a 300-pound sphinx head doing on the Western coast of the United States, you might ask?

As Laura Geggel reports for Live Science, the relic in question hails not from the deserts of ancient Egypt, but from the set of The Ten Commandments, Cecil B. DeMilles pioneering 1923 Hollywood blockbuster.

Back in the 20s, DeMille, a towering figure of Hollywoods Golden Age, set out to create an epic retelling of the biblical story of Moses. Part of the silent, black-and-white film was shot in the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes, in an attempt to mimic Egypts sandy landscape.

According to a press release from the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes Center, which led the excavation, DeMille commissioned an enormous set that stretched 12 stories high and 800 feet wide. This grand construction, which at the time was one of the largest movie sets ever built, featured a colossal gate, statues of pharaohs, and 21 sphinxes made from plaster of Paris.

America is set to endure one of the most perilous flu seasons in years with doctors warning it could be similar to the deadly 2014 outbreak.   It is becoming increasingly clear that the US will be hit by a particular strain of influenza called H3N2, the same strain which has just wreaked havoc in Australia, and was responsible for the four most deadly flu seasons in the last 10 years.  Early assessments suggest

the current vaccine which was produced in spring after scientists made an educated guess at what strain to expect will be just 10 percent effective.  While some seasons dont kick off until February, we are already seeing a surge in people hospitalized with influenza-like symptoms at a rate even faster and earlier than we saw in 2014.  Im anticipating this being a bad flu year, infectious diseases specialist Dr Pritish Tosh, of the Mayo Clinic, told Daily Mail Online.  READ MORE

Mistletoe extract targets Axl to suppress cell proliferation and overcome cisplatin- and erlotinib-resistance in non-small cell lung cancer cells. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Phytomedicine. 2017 Dec 1 ;36:183-193. Epub 2017 Sep 29. PMID: 29157814 Abstract Title:  Mistletoe (Viscum album) extract targets Axl to suppress cell proliferation and overcome cisplatin- and erlotinib-resistance in non-small cell lung cancer cells. Abstract:  BACKGROUND: Mistletoe extract of Visucm album extract (VAE) contains many biologically active components and has been reported to be not only a complementary and alternative medicine, but also a potent therapeutic agent for many types of cancer.PURPOSE: In this study, we examined the effect of VAE on expression and activation of Axl and scrutinized the involvement of Axl in the anti-cancer activity of VAE in parental and chemo-resistant non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells.METHODS: The levels of Axl protein and mRNA were determined by Western blot analysis and RT-PCR, respectively. Phosphorylation of Axl upon Gas6 stimulation was observed by Western blot analysis. For ectopic expression or gene silencing of Axl, the recombinant plasmid, pcDNA3-Axl, or specific siRNA targeting Axl were transfected into A549 and H460 cells using Lipofectamine 2000, respectively. The anti-cancer activity of mistletoe extract was examined against the parental cells and each of their cisplatin- or erlotinib-resistant cells using trypan blue exclusion assays and colony formation assay.RESULTS: The levels of Axl mRNA were also reduced by VAE treatment, implying the transcriptional downregulation of Axl expression by VAE. In addition, the phosphorylation of Axl protein upon its ligand, Gas6, stimulation was found to be abrogated by VAE. We next found cytotoxic effect of VAE on both the parental NSCLC cells and their variants which are resistant to cisplatin (A549/CisR and H460/CisR) or erlotinib (H460/ER and H1975/ER). Treatment of these cells with VAE caused a dose-dependent decrease of cell viability and clonogenicity. This anti-proliferative effect of VAE was attenuated in Axl-overexpressing cells, while it was augmented in cells transfected Axl specific siRNA. Next, we also found that in cisplatin-resistant cells and erlotinib-resistant cells, VAE treatment decreased Axl protein level, colonogenicity. The levels of several cell cycle regulator, p21 and apoptosis related protein, X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis, was found to be induced and reduced by VAE treatment, respectively.CONCLUSION: Taken together, our data provide that VAE targets Axl to suppress cell proliferation and to circumvent cisplatin- and erlotinib-resistance in NSCLC cells.

Abstract:  BACKGROUND: Our previous work suggests that Thuja occidentalis, Carcinosinum and Ruta graveolens have antineoplastic properties. The mechanism of this action has not previously been studied. We studied the hypothesis that the mechanism of action is through the immune modulation.METHODS: We evaluated the effects of Thuja occidentalis, Carcinosinum and Ruta graveolens 1M, 200c and 30c on the immune system of Balb/c mice. The homeopathic preparations were administered orally for ten consecutive days. Haematological parameters (Total White Blood Cell (WBC) Count, Differential Count and Haemoglobin content), haematopoietic parameters (bone marrow cellularity and-esterase positive cells) and immune parameters for antibody response and lymphoid cell proliferation were assessed using standard methods. Results were analysed by statistical comparison with the control.RESULTS: We observed significant enhancement of haematological parameters including total WBC count, haematopoietic parameters such as bone marrow cellularity and the number of-esterase positive cells, other parameters of immune response such as circulating antibody titre and the number of plaque forming cells (PFC), particularly with higher dilutions of Thuja and Ruta. Enhanced proliferation of B and T lymphoid cells was also observed. No toxic effects were observed.CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest immunomodulatory activity of homeopathic preparations in high dilution. This may be a mechanism through which homeopathic preparations act.

BREAKING NEWS: Trump to forge ahead with relocating US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

BREAKING NEWS: Trump to forge ahead with relocating US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem

President Trump on Wednesday will order the State Department to begin moving the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv, senior administration officials said, a move that fulfills a campaign promise made to religious conservatives but one that could inflame tensions across the Middle East. In his announcement, Trump will say that the U.S. government recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. One official described it as an honest acknowledgment of a seven-decade-old fact. While

President Trump recognizes that the status of Jerusalem is a highly sensitive issue, he does not think it will be resolved by ignoring the simple truth that Jerusalem is home to Israels legislature, its Supreme Court, the prime minister and is such the capital of Israel, one official said. The U.S. would be the first country to move its embassy to Jerusalem, which is claimed by both Israelis and Palestinians. Other countries who have diplomatic relations with Israel keep their embassies in Tel Aviv. READ MORE

Trumps Jerusalem endorsement may include two-state support

Endorsement of a two-state resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict could follow US President Donald Trump pending announcement that he is relocating the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, three US officials said in a late night briefing to the media on Tuesday.  They spoke in advance of Trumps expected Wednesday afternoon speech, in which he plans to overturn almost 70

years of US policy by recognizing Jerusalem as Israels capital city.  US policy is going, to be honest about the fact, a seven-decade-old fact, that Jerusalem is [Israels] capital and bring US policy fundamentally in-line with that fact, the officials said. To underscore that new policy understanding Trump will also direct the State Department to create a plan relocate the embassy to a site in Jerusalem, the officials said, adding that it could take at least four years to execute the move. What You Need to Know About the Future of Bitcoin Technology "IndyWatch Feed Education"

Bitcoin (BTC) recently smashed an all-time high of $11,400 USD and subsequently dropped to as low as $8,595 within a few hours. Its incredibly important to not get lost in the pandemonium and to stay informed about how Bitcoin is progressing technologically.

Anybody considering buying Bitcoin should at the very least learn two things:

  1. the history of the technology behind Bitcoin
  2. and more importantly, what lies ahead in Bitcoins future.

As Bitcoin expert Andreas M. Antonopoulos says, Invest in education instead of speculation.

With Bitcoin and its underlying blockchain being such incredibly new technological concepts, it can seem daunting at times to try and research and understand its underlying technical details. This article is written in an effort to highlight the scalability problem Bitcoin faces, and what expected or proposed solutions to that problem are. There are some really exciting ones out there that this article discusses!

I wrote this as I was learning about Bitcoin myself, to aggregate the great amount of information about Bitcoins future from countless sources out there. When writing this, I kept in mind even those who dont possess a programming background. However, it is assumed that the reader has a very basic understanding of Bitcoin as a currency and what a blockchain is. Coindesk has a great 5-minute read that should get you up to speed here if youre just starting out with Bitcoin or if you need a refresher.

Lets begin with the scalability problem Bitcoin faces.

The Transaction Throughput Problem

One of Bitcoins fundamental values was instant and secure peer-to-peer payment transactions. Now, more than ever, Bitcoin is emerging as the prevailing cryptocurrency in the global market, with a 1,200%+ increase in value over the last year alone.

Because of this unprecedented growth, the number of transactions on the Bitcoin blockchain has also increased, with up to 400,000 transactions per day being conducted. This rapid increase in tran...

Time Person of the Year Awarded to Rocket League Teammate Who Scored Goal on Purpose "IndyWatch Feed Satire"

NEW YORK Time magazine announced the winner of its 2017 Person of the Year award today: Carlos Villalba, a 27-year-old Rocket League player who pushed a ball into the opponents goal, and not just as a lucky mistake while playing.

The nominees, which included NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, Chinese President Xi Jingping, and a guy who completed Horizon: Zero Dawn without telling anyone, were announced by Time magazine last Wednesday.

Its such an incredible honor to be recognized by Time magazine as someone who had the most influence on the world in 2017, Villalba said. Generally when I play Rocket League, I try my best to make contact with the ball and push it in the general direction of the other teams goal. But on April 3, I saw an opening and purposely jumped up a little bit to hit the ball exactly where I planned.

Its pretty cool to be officially recognized by Time as the first person to ever do that, he said.

Read More From Hard Drive, The Only Ethical Gaming Journalism Site on The Internet:

Time magazines accompanying article explained the process behind how Villalba was chosen and why his Rocket League play had such a lasting cultural effect on 2017.

Sure, the #MeToo campaign was huge, but did it inspire as many people as that on-purpose Rocket League goal? said Edward Felsenthal, editor in chief of Time magazine. We arent even saying it had a totally positive impact. For some people, Villalbas goal was a shining beacon of frustration; it was empirical evidence that, yes, one can technically score a...

Mark Fisher: Bitcoin was what silver was back in the late 70s and 80s "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Influential and respected Wall Streeter, Mark Fisher, has shared his thoughts on the current bull run in Bitcoin. For him, there is no rhyme or reason for the prices were seeing today and its the volatility that continues to attract people to the cryptocurrency space.

During CNBCs Halftime Report on Tuesday, the CEO and Founder of the MBF Clearing Corporation claimed that interest in the worlds most popular cryptocurrency reminded him of the silver market almost forty years ago:

Bitcoin was what silver was back in the late 70s and 80s for sure. No rhyme or reason.

Fisher, who authored the best-selling book The Logical Trader: Applying A Method to The Madness, is referring to the overwhelming bullishness in the silver market that culminated on what has been deemed Silver Thursday in March of 1980. The price tumbled shortly following the immense run up to ten year lows after most of the exuberance over the commodity was exhausted.

During the informal interview, the expert trader offered his opinion on what was drawing people, himself included, to get involved with cryptocurrencies:

The reason people are so attracted to bitcoin is because people want something thats actually moved dramatically, that theres no Wall Street to it The thing that every cab driver is talking about all day long.

He also made comment on the CBOE Futures market which is due to begin trading at 6pm ET this Sunday. Declaring the market to be the Wild West, he went on to hint that thered likely be great volatility. Of course, being a trader, he welcomes such dramatic markets as long as it moves, right?

Its unclear at present how the launch of Bitcoin futures will affect the market in the short, medium, and long term. What is obvious is that such developments lend greater legitimacy to the entire space and could in turn prompt additional financial products to be created for Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies generally.

Theres now less than a week to go until the first of three proposed futures markets begin trading so well find out soon enough.

Condurango extract was found to be cytotoxic against target cells. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  J Pharmacopuncture. 2015 Sep ;18(3):32-41. PMID: 26389000 Abstract Title:  Condurango (Gonolobus condurango) Extract Activates Fas Receptor and Depolarizes Mitochondrial Membrane Potential to Induce ROS-dependent Apoptosis in Cancer Cells in vitro: CE-treatment on HeLa: a ROS-dependent mechanism. Abstract:  OBJECTIVES: Condurango (Gonolobus condurango) extract is used by complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) practitioners as a traditional medicine, including homeopathy, mainly for the treatment of syphilis. Condurango bark extract is also known to reduce tumor volume, but the underlying molecular mechanisms still remain unclear.METHODS: Using a cervical cancer cell line (HeLa) as our model, the molecular events behind condurango extract's (CE's) anticancer effect were investigated by using flow cytometry, immunoblotting and reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Other included cell types were prostate cancer cells (PC3), transformed liver cells (WRL-68), and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs).RESULTS: Condurango extract (CE) was found to be cytotoxic against target cells, and this was significantly deactivated in the presence of N-acetyl cysteine (NAC), a scavenger of reactive oxygen species (ROS), suggesting that its action could be mediated through ROS generation. CE caused an increase in the HeLa cell population containing deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) damage at the G zero/Growth 1 (G0/G1) stage. Further, CE increased the tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-) and the fas receptor (FasR) levels both at the ribonucleic acid (RNA) and the protein levels, indicating that CE might have a cytotoxic mechanism of action. CE also triggered a sharp decrease in the expression of nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-B ) both at the RNA and the protein levels, a possible route to attenuation of B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2), and caused an opening of the mitochondrial membrane's permeability transition (MPT) pores, thus enhancing caspase activities.CONCLUSION: Overall, our results suggest possible pathways for CE mediated cytotoxicity in model cancer cells.

Teacher Accuses 6-Year-Old Special Needs Muslim of Terrorism, Calls Cops "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

A young Muslim child with Downs syndrome was recently reported to police by a substitute teacher at CJ Harris Elementary School in Pearland, Texas because the teacher suspected that the boy might be a terrorist. The teacher claims that the 6-year-old boy said Allah and boom multiple times throughout the class, but the boys father, Maher Suleiman, said that his child cannot speak, so the accusations against him are ridiculous and impossible.

Even if the child did utter those two words, there is nothing threatening about them at all. Would the words god and boom ever elicit this type of response if they were not spoken by a child with brown skin and a Muslim name?

While the police quickly dropped the case, Child Protective Services is now investigating the family, turning their lives upside down.

The family contacted local activist Quanell X for help with their case.

When the father first reached out to me, I really didnt think the story was completely true. I thought maybe because he was an immigrant, his English was not great, maybe he was a little confused about what was happening. But as my office began to work on it, we found his story to be true. How can you go after a six-year-old child and call him a terrorist? Quanell said.

This substitute teacher alleges that this six-year-old child was saying terroristic things. Ive met this child. He cannot speak. He is severely, severely special needs. He has the mental capacity of a one-year-old. I couldnt believe (the substitute teachers) story had gone to this degree its extreme. To me, this is a case of some of the worst religious bigotry I have ever seen, and its specifically targeting a Muslim family, he added.

Tiffani Butler, media specialist for Child Protective Services claims that the agency is required to investigate any type of incident that happens in a public school.

The only reason we would be involved is because its something that happened at school, Butler said.

However, Quanell said that there is no reason for them to be involved in the first place.

To give the police credit, when I spoke to the assistant police chief in Pearland, the man was honest, respectful and believed this was extreme, but they had to follow protocol. I was just surprised that CPS was involved. What are they investigating? Neglect? Abuse? I didnt realize Child Protective Services had a division that was trained to spo...

Psorinum 6 triggered apoptosis in A549 cells. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  J Integr Med. 2016 Mar ;14(2):143-53. PMID: 26988436 Abstract Title:  Psorinum 6 triggers apoptosis signals in human lung cancer cells. Abstract:  OBJECTIVE: To provide in vitro evidence of Psorinum treatment against cancer cells in a controlled study.METHODS: Effects of homeopathic Psorinum 6 on cell viability were initially determined in several cancer cell lines, including A549, HepG2 and MCF-7, using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay, and an ethanol 6 control. The cell line that exhibited highest inhibition was selected and used in the following experiments. A range of Psorinum 6 doses was used to explore treatment effects on cell cycle arrest, cell death (apoptosis), generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and change in mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) using flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy, respectively. Expression ofseveral signal proteins related to apoptosis and cell survival were quantified with Western blotting and confocal microscopy. Further, circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy was used to determine possible drug-DNA interactions, as well as the induction of conformational changes.RESULTS: Treatment of cancer cell lines with Psorinum showed greater anticancer effects in A549 cells than in others. In A549 cells Psorinum treatment inhibited cell proliferation at 24 h after treatment, and arrested cell cycle at sub-G1 stage. It also induced ROS generation, MMP depolarization, morphological changes and DNA damage, as well as externalization of phosphatidyl serine. Further, increases in p53 expression, Bax expression, cytochrome c release, along with reduction of Bcl-2 level and caspase-3 activation were observed after Psorinum 6 treatment, which eventually drove A549 cells towards the mitochondria-mediated caspase-3-dependent pathway. CD spectroscopy revealed direct interaction of Psorinum with DNA, using calf thymus-DNA as target.CONCLUSION: Psorinum 6 triggered apoptosis in A549 cells via both up- and down-regulations of relevant signal proteins, including p53, caspase-3, Bax and Bcl-2.

10+ Stunning Photos of Icelands Largest Volcanic Eruption in Over 200 Years "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Iceland is a popular destination among nature lovers and photographers. This is because the small country is full of natural wonders, such as glaciers, waterfalls, black sand beaches, hot springs and even volcanoes. On the topic of volcanos, one of the largest in Iceland recently erupted in over 200 years. Fortunately for us all, photographer Axel Sigurarson, who was born and raised in Reykjavk, documented the fantastic happening.

MyModernMet reports that Sigurarson was fortunate to grow up exploring the Icelandic Highlands, which is a sought-after destination by landscape photographers. While on a road trip to Holuhraun, a large lava field situated just north of the Vatnajkull ice cap, the photographer captured something even more spectacular.

For the first time since 1783, the Brarbunga was erupting. Its latest eruption lasted from August 29, 2014, to February 27, 2015. To say the photographs are remarkable is an understatement.

Credit: Axel Sigurarson

Sigurarsons views from land and air reveal natures incredible fury. In some of the photographs, huge clouds of dust and gas belch forth from the Earth, In others, red-hot molten rock blasts through the planets crust then allows gravity to guide it downward. One particularly poignant image shows an airplane dwarfed by the spewing volcano.

While photographing the phenomena, Sigurarson also captured images of scientists he met along the way. They included renowned Seismologist Ragnar Skjlfti Stefnsson, who was on-site conducting research.

You can learn more about Sigurarson and view his extraordinary work by visiting his website and Instagram.

Lebanese propolis exhibited significant cytotoxicity and anti-proliferative activity. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Biomed Pharmacother. 2017 Nov ;95:298-307. Epub 2017 Sep 12. PMID: 28850929 Abstract Title:  Chemical characterization and cytotoxic activity evaluation of Lebanese propolis. Abstract:  Chemical composition, anti-proliferative and proapoptotic activity as well as the effect of various fractions of Lebanese propolis on the cell cycle distribution were evaluated on Jurkat leukemic T-cells, glioblastoma U251 cells, and breast adenocarcinoma MDA-MB-231 cells using cytotoxic assays, flow cytometry as well as western blot analysis. Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analysis revealed that ferulic acid, chrysin, pinocembrin, galangin are major constituents of the ethanolic crude extract of the Lebanese propolis, while the hexane fraction mostly contains chrysin, pinocembrin, galangin but at similar levels. Furthermore chemical analysis was performed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to identify major compounds in the hexane fraction. Reduction of cell viability was observed in Jurkat cells exposed to the ethanolic crude extract and the hexane fraction, while viability of U251 and MDA-MB-231 cells was only affected upon exposure to the hexane fraction; the other fractions (aqueous phase, methylene chloride, and ethyl acetate) were without effect. Maximum toxic effect was obtained when Jurkat cells were cultivated with 90g/ml of both the crude extract and hexane faction. Toxicity started early after 24h of incubation and remained till 72h. Interestingly, the decrease in cell viability was accompanied by a significant increase in p53 protein expression levels and PARP cleavage. Cell cycle distribution showed an increase in the SubG0 fraction in Jurkat, U251 and MDA-MB-231 cells after 24h incubation with the hexane fraction. This increase in SubG0 was further investigated in Jurkat cells by annexinV/PI and showed an increase in the percentage of cells in early and late apoptosis as well as necrosis. In conclusion, Lebanese propolis exhibited significant cytotoxicity and anti-proliferative activity promising enough that warrant further investigations on the molecular targets and mechanisms of action of Lebanese propolis.

Anti-Trump FBI Agent Who Tricked Michael Flynn And Started The Entire Russian Investigation Also Directly Covered Up The Email Scandal For Hillary Clinton "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The former top counterintelligence expert at the Federal Bureau of Investigations, who is already embroiled in a massive political scandal after his anti-Trump text messages were revealed, was also directly involved in covering up the Hillary Clinton email scandal by changing key wording in former FBI Director James Comeys description of how Clinton handled classified material.

According to electronic records reviewed by CNN, FBI agent Peter Strzok not only led the investigation into the candidate he was supporting for president, he also specifically changed language in Comeys original statement that described Clintons actions as grossly negligent to extremely careless, which changed the entire scandal from potentially criminal to nothing more than a written reprimand.

Thats right, the same man who started the entire sham Russian investigation was also the same Clinton operative who worked tirelessly to get her off the hook for actions that would have almost certainly resulted in charges for anyone else.

CNN reported:

The shift from grossly negligent to extremely careless, which may appear pedestrian at first glance, reflected a decision by the FBI that could have had potentially significant legal implications, as the federal law governing the mishandling of classified material establishes criminal penalties for gross negligence.

Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, raised questions over why the change was made after receiving documents from the FBI last month, but the identity of who was behind the edit has not been reported until now.

CNN has also learned that Strzok was the FBI official who signed the document officially opening an investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, according to sources familiar with the matter. As the No. 2 official in counterintelligence, Strzok was considered to be one of the bureaus top experts on Russia.

The wisdom of this observation is borne out by empirical evidence demonstrating that so-called authoritative sources of medical information are thoroughly corrupted not only by industry manipulation but by government officials, and biased, financially conflicted academic gatekeepers of medical science i.e., expert panels and journal editors.

The most lucrative areas of medicine are the most corrupted by financial conflicts of interest.

Our recent focus continues to be the untouchable subject; namely, the largely corrupted vaccine information base. The history of vaccines has been fashioned by eradicating inconvenient historical facts.

For me, the most troubling aspect of the corrupting influence of the powerful vaccine lobby is its apparent success in having averted the focus of the medical profession and academia: from the spiraling number of vaccine-injured children whose existence these authorities deny. However, evidence of their existence is demonstrated by the fraction of those who have been compensated by The U.S. Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP).

PMID: 24050771 Abstract Title:  Effect of a homeopathic-complex medicine on state and trait anxiety and sleep disorders: a retrospective observational study. Abstract:  PURPOSE: The primary objective of this open-label, retrospective, observational study was to examine change in indicators of anxiety changed after treatment period of at least 1 month with the homeopathic-complex medicine Datif-PC(). A secondary objective was to describe the quantitative changes in the sleep pattern of the subjects included in the study.METHODS: The study population consisted of 71 subjects suffering from mild to moderate anxiety, who were treated with a homeopathic-complex medicine. The subjects had attended at least 2 consultations during the year 2010, with the second visit taking place at least 30 days after the first baseline visit. At both visits, subjects were administered the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI)-Y questionnaire (consisting of trait and state subscales) to assess their level of anxiety. Sleep quality was assessed based on the subjects' self-reported number of hours slept and number of night-time awakenings, before and after treatment.RESULTS: Compared to baseline, the average (STAI)-state score at visit 2 decreased by more than 6 points, while the STAI-trait score decreased by more than 3 points. This was statistically significant (p

War on Coconut Oil: California Companies Attacked to try and Prevent the Sale of Coconut Oil "IndyWatch Feed Health"

Coconut with jars of coconut oil and cosmetic cream on wooden background

by Brian Shilhavy
Editor, Health Impact News

Companies selling coconut oil in California are finding out the hard way that they cannot claim that coconut oil is healthy because the FDA does not allow such a claim, even if scientific studies back up this claim, along with hundreds of thousands of customer testimonials about the health benefits of coconut oil.

Several companies are now fighting class action lawsuits for the sale of their brand of coconut oil in California, including Nutiva [1], Natures Way [2], BetterBody [3], Carrington Farms [4], All Markets (Vita brand) [5], Costco (Kirkland label) [6], and others [7].

The people who are bringing these lawsuits are stating that these companies are violating FDA regulations by indicating that coconut oil is healthy when the FDA says this claim cannot be made.

Furthermore, the companies are being accused of violating FDA standards for displaying product information on product labels. Violations in these two areas are the primary basis for court cases that are intended to declare that the coconut oil products sold by these companies are misbranded, and are in violation of federal regulations and California laws governing false advertising, fair labeling, and merchantability.

FDA: Saturated Fats Cannot be Healthy Unless We Say So

The foundational premise upon which the cases have been built, rests on the belief that coconut oil is saturated fat, and therefore it is unhealthy. Their attorneys are claiming that their clients were misled and deceived by the information on coconut oil labels.

They alleged that the labels convinced them to believe that coconut oil was healthy, and their decision to pay a high price for coconut oil was determined by this claim.

When they subsequently learned that coconut oil was saturated fat and was considered by government dietary nutritional advice to be unhealthy, they decided (or were encouraged) to take legal action requesting to be paid for financial damages.

The use of the word healthy is restricted to products that only the FDA has determined to be healthy. If you sell any products that you claim to be...

Homeopathy could have some benefit in the treatment of fibromyalgia. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Complement Ther Med. 2014 Aug ;22(4):731-42. Epub 2014 Jun 28. PMID: 25146079 Abstract Title:  Homeopathy in the treatment of fibromyalgia--a comprehensive literature-review and meta-analysis. Abstract:  BACKGROUND: Coping with the complex nature of fibromyalgia symptoms (FMS) still remains a challenge for patients. Taking into account the possible adverse events of pharmacological treatments patients often seek additional treatments for the management of fibromyalgia and turn towards complementary and alternative medicine (CAM).OBJECTIVE: In this review, we aimed to investigate the current state of literature of homeopathy in the treatment of FMS.METHODS: We searched Medline, the Cochrane Register of Controlled Trials, Embase, AMED, PsycInfo and CAMbase for the terms"fibromyalgia AND homeopath$"through February 2013. In addition we searched Google Scholar, the library of the Carstens Foundation and that of the Deutsche Homopathische Union (DHU). Standardized mean differences (SMD) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated and meta-analyzed using the generic inverse variance method.RESULTS: We found 10 case-reports, 3 observational studies, 1 non-randomized and 4 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on homeopathy for fibromyalgia. Both case reports and observational studies are naturally predominated by the use of qualitative and not validated outcome measures. Meta-analyses of CCTs revealed effects of homeopathy on tender point count (SMD=-0.42; 95%CI -0.78, -0.05; P=0.03), pain intensity (SMD=-0.54; 95%CI -0.97, -0.10; P=0.02), and fatigue (SMD=-0.47; 95%CI -0.90, -0.05; P=0.03) compared to placebo.CONCLUSION: The results of the studies as well as the case reports define a sufficient basis for discussing the possible benefits of homeopathy for patients suffering from fibromyalgia syndrome although any conclusions based on the results of this review have to be regarded as preliminary.

Abstract:  BACKGROUND: Seasonal allergic rhinitis (SAR), also known as hay fever, is a widespread chronic respiratory disease. In treatment of SAR the use of complementary therapies is increasing, but little has been published about homeopathic complex remedies so far. Therefore, we think it is time to conduct and publish an appropriate observational study.METHODS: Course of single symptoms, impairment of quality of life, general efficacy, and tolerability of a homeopathic complex remedy containing active substances on a low dilution level have been assessed and analyzed. Altogether, 123 patients with a history of allergic rhinitis of up to 45 years have been observed for about 4 weeks.RESULTS: The majority of symptoms were shown to improve substantially and the patients' quality of life increased clearly. The overall symptom score decreased significantly from 10.3 4.7 to 3.9 3.1 points (p

A homeopathic complex with physiotherapy could significantly improve symptoms associated with chronic low-back pain due to osteoarthritis. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Altern Ther Health Med. 2016 Jan-Feb;22(1):48-56. PMID: 26773321 Abstract Title:  Physiotherapy and a Homeopathic Complex for Chronic Low-back Pain Due to Osteoarthritis: A Randomized, Controlled Pilot Study. Abstract:  CONTEXT: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common cause of chronic low-back pain (CLBP) and can be managed with drug therapy and physiotherapy. Homeopathic remedies may assist managing OA; however, research that supports their effectiveness is limited.OBJECTIVES: The study aimed to investigate the efficacy of a homeopathic complex in combination with physiotherapy in treating CLBP due to OA.DESIGN: The study was a 6-wk, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot.SETTING: The study took place in a private physiotherapy practice in Gauteng, South Africa.PARTICIPANTS: The participants were 30 males and females, aged 45-75 y, who were receiving physiotherapy treatment for OA of the lumbar spine from a therapist in private practice.INTERVENTIONS: The intervention and control groups both received standard physiotherapy treatment-massage, thermal therapy, and joint mobilization-every 2 wk. In addition, the treatment group received a homeopathic complex-6cH each of Arnica montana, Bryonia alba, Causticum, Kalmia latifolia, Rhus toxicodendron, and Calcarea fluorica. The control group a received a placebo.OUTCOME MEASURES: The primary measure was a visual analogue scale (VAS) for pain. Secondary outcome measures included the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), an evaluation of each patient's range of motion (ROM) of the lumbar spine, and a determination of each patient's need for pain medication.RESULTS: Intergroup analysis revealed that the treatment group significantly outperformed the control group with regard to pain, daily functioning, and ROM. No difference existed between the groups, however, in the need for conventional pain medication.CONCLUSIONS: The study was too small to be conclusive, but results suggest the homeopathic complex, together with physiotherapy, can significantly improve symptoms associated with CLBP due to OA.

Contents of quercitrin and rutin in T. pubescens mother tincture correlates with its anti-inflammatory and analgesic actions. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Homeopathy. 2016 Feb ;105(1):48-54. Epub 2015 Oct 12. PMID: 26827997 Abstract Title:  Standardization of homeopathic mother tincture of Toxicodendron pubescens and correlation of its flavonoid markers with the biological activity. Abstract:  BACKGROUND: Standardization and quality control of homeopathic drugs is very challenging. As mother tinctures are derived from complex natural resources, there is a need of systematic evaluation of chemical markers which correlate with the proposed biological activities of mother tinctures.METHODS: In present study, High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) standardization method of homeopathic mother tinctures of Toxicodendron pubescens using quercitrin and rutin as chemical markers is validated and correlations of content of these markers with its anti-inflammatory effects are established. For HPTLC analysis, precoated silica gel plates were used as stationary phase. Two flavonoids, namely quercitrin and rutin were used as markers. Separation was achieved using methylene chloride:methanol:water:glacial acetic acid (15:1.5:1:8 v/v/v) as mobile phase. The developed plates were scanned at 365 nm.RESULTS: It was observed that quercitrin (Rf value 0.63) and Rutin (Rf value 0.41) are well resolved. The minimum detectable concentrations for quercitrin and rutin were 5 ng/spot. The linearity range was between 100 and 2000 ng/spot for both the markers. Subsequently, anti-inflammatory activity of these formulations was determined against carrageenan-induced paw edema in rats, pain threshold determined by electronic Von-Frey apparatus and paw withdrawal latency (PWL) on hot-plate. All the tested formulations of Rhus Tox showed anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity against carrageenan induced paw edema in rats. Quantitative correlation between the content of markers and anti-inflammatory activity of mother tinctures was established.RESULTS: Anti-inflammatory effect as well as effect on paw withdrawal and pain threshold, at third hour after carrageenan injection, correlated with quercitrin and rutin content in the respective formulations.CONCLUSIONS: This study validates a quantitative HPTLC method for standardization of homeopathic mother tincture of Rhus Tox and establishes quercitrin and rutin as markers corresponding its biological activity. Contents of quercitrin and rutin in T. pubescens mother tincture correlates with its anti-inflammatory and analgesic actions and the validated HPTLC method can be used in standardization of homeopathic mother tincture of T. pubescens.

EU Resolution for Arms Embargo on Yemen, Diphtheria Outbreak Spreads "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

European Parliament Passes A Motion to Impose Arms Embargo on Saudi Arabia over War Crimes in Yemen [image: ahtribune.com]

US/Saudi aggression on Yemen has been raging since March 2015, drone war on the country begun earlier by Bush/Cheney prospects for conflict resolution nowhere in sight.

On November 30, European Parliament members adopted a resolution, calling for an arms embargo on Yemen.

In February 2016, they voted for halting European ams to Saudi Arabia, doing it again last September protesting against its terror-bombing and blockade of Yemen.

EU parliament voting is nonbinding, failing to compel member states to pressure Riyadh, including by cutting off arms sales.

They continue unabated, including from America. Profits for arms merchants of death and destruction matter more than human health, welfare, and safety, along with regional and world peace anathema notions in Western and despotic Middle East capitals, notably in Israel and Riyadh.

The use of homeopathic medicines minimized the number of flu and acute respiratory infection symptomatic episodes in children. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Homeopathy. 2016 Feb ;105(1):71-7. Epub 2015 Aug 4. PMID: 26828000 Abstract Title:  Homeopathic medicines for prevention of influenza and acute respiratory tract infections in children: blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial. Abstract:  BACKGROUND: Influenza and its complications are common at all ages, especially in children. Vaccines and anti-influenza drugs aim to prevent it. Preventative approaches with favorable risk profiles should be considered for flu, particularly since the evidence of the efficacy of anti-viral drugs is debated.METHODS: This pragmatic clinical trial was conducted in the Brazilian Public Health System in Petrpolis (BPHSP) with children aged from 1 to 5 years old. The medications used were mainly selected based on in vitro experiments (InfluBio), and in successful qualitative clinical experiences (Homeopathic Complex). Following informed parental consent, subjects were randomly distributed, in a blindmanner, to three experimental groups: Homeopathic Complex, Placebo, and InfluBio. BPHSP health agents collected flu and acute respiratory infection symptomatic episodes monthly following the established protocol. The number of these episodes was registered in one year (2009-2010).RESULTS: Out of the 600 children recruited, 445 (74.17%) completed the study (149: Homeopathic complex; 151: Placebo; 145: InfluBio). The number of flu and acute respiratory infection symptomatic episodes detected in this clinical trial was low; however, it was different between homeopathic groups and placebo (p

Lubaina Himid, a sculptor, painter, and installation artist born in what was then Zanzibar and based in Preston in northern England, has won the 2017 Turner Prize. According to the Guardian, she is not only the oldest artist to receive the UKs top contemporary art prize, at 63 (until this year, only artists under 50 were eligible), but also the first woman of color to win it.

To the art and cultural historians who cared enough to write essays about my work for decades thank you, you gave me sustenance in the wilderness years, Himid said during her acceptance speech, according to BBC News. Her work which includes portraits of enslaved people painted on jugs, plates, newspapers, and other domestic objects, as well as full-size cutouts of figures in colorful historical costumes not only examines the histories of colonialism and the slave trade, but also the way their effects continue to play out in society today. Of the visibility that comes with winning the Turner Prize, she said: I think it will get people talking, which is the point of my work.

Hep C 30 has demonstrable anticancer effects against liver cancer cells in vitro. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  J Integr Med. 2016 May ;14(3):209-18. PMID: 27181128 Abstract Title:  A homeopathic nosode, Hepatitis C 30 demonstrates anticancer effect against liver cancer cells in vitro by modulating telomerase and topoisomerase II activities as also by promoting apoptosis via intrinsic mitochondrial pathway. Abstract:  OBJECTIVE: Homeopathic nosodes have seldom been scientifically validated for their anticancer effects. This study was conducted to examine if a recently developed hepatitis C nosode has demonstrable anticancer potential in cancer cells in vitro.METHODS: Anticancer effects of Hepatitis C 30C (Hep C 30), if any, were initially tested on three cancer cell lines, HepG2 (liver cancer), MCF-7 (breast cancer) and A549 (lung cancer) and one normal liver cell line WRL-68 cells and subsequently a more thorough study using further scientific protocols was undertaken on HepG2 cells (against WRL-68 cells as the normal control) as HepG2 cells showed better anticancer response than the other two. Three doses, one at 50% lethal dose (LD50) and the other two below LD50, were used on HepG2 cells subsequently. Protocols like apoptosis induction and its possible signaling mechanism were deployed using immunoblots of relevant signal proteins and confocal microscopy, with particular reference to telomerase and topoisomerase II (Top II) activities, two strong cancer biomarkers for their direct relationship with divisional activities of cells and DNAs.RESULTS: Hep C 30 induced apoptosis, caused distorted cell morphology typical of apoptotic cells, increased reactive oxygen species generation and produced increased DNA nicks. Further it enhanced pro-apototic signal proteins like Bax, cytochrome c and inhibited anti-apoptotic signal proteins, Bcl-2, cytochrome c and caspase-3, changed mitochondrial membrane potential and caused externalization of phosphatidylserine. The drug also decreased expression of two cancer biomarkers, Top II and telomerase, consistent with its anticancer effect.CONCLUSION: Hep C 30 has demonstrable anticancer effects against liver cancer cells in vitro.

How Modern Society Is Destroying Our Once Powerful Spiritual Connection "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

As a population we often focus on the ways in which we can promote better physical, mental and emotional health, however, many of us overlook one important aspect of our overall health and well-being our spiritual health.

Spirituality has different meanings for different people, influenced by their personal belief systems. For those that identify with a specific religious belief, such as that of Christianity, spirituality may be tied to their perceived connection with their God or deity, whereas for those that dont have a religious affiliation may see it, instead, as an understanding of a higher purpose in your life.

Source: Jared Rice | Unsplash

Christina Puchalski, MD, director of the George Washington Institute for Spirituality and Health explains that spirituality is the aspect of humanity that refers to the way individuals seek and express meaning and purpose and the way they experience their connectedness to the moment, to self, to others, to nature, and to the significant or sacred.

As the underlying idea of spirituality is the connection to a bigger or more meaningful purpose in this world, it is often connected with improved emotional well-being. It allows us to feel a strong positive connection with the world around us, resulting in feelings of peace, gratitude, acceptance, understanding, and contentment. Spirituality provides individuals with something to hold onto, a bigger picture when they are facing a challenge in life. As Thomas Merton states, You do not need to know precisely what is happening, or exactly where it is all going. What you need is to recognize the possibilities and challenges offered by the present moment, and to embrace them with courage, faith and hope.

Unfortunately, our society today discourages the spiritual connection that was once a regular part of our day to day lives. Instead, we are taught to see material items as the path to true happiness in our lives. Experts report that the average American owns twice as many cars, eats out twice as often as Americans did in 1957. On top of that, we are inundated with new, bigger, fancier items that never before existed! Television advertisements and newspapers paint a picture of happiness brought on by owning the biggest, fastest, fanciest or most expensive gadget, always leaving us wanting more.

Both of the homeopathic products in this study led to a comparable reduction of upper respiratory tract infections. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Multidiscip Respir Med. 2016 ;11:19. Epub 2016 May 16. PMID: 27186371 Abstract Title:  Effectiveness, safety and tolerability of a complex homeopathic medicinal product in the prevention of recurrent acute upper respiratory tract infections in children: a multicenter, open, comparative, randomized, controlled clinical trial. Abstract:  BACKGROUND: The present study was initiated to investigate the effectiveness, safety and tolerability of complex homeopathic CalSuli-4-02 tablets on prevention of recurrent acute upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) in children, in comparison to another complex homeopathic product.METHODS: The study was designed as a prospective, multicenter, randomized, open, clinical trial with two parallel treatment groups at four outpatient pediatric clinics in Russia. Children aged6 years with susceptibility to acute URTIs ( three occasions during the last 6 months) were randomized to receive either CalSuli-4-02 or a comparator homeopathic product (control group) for 3 weeks. Primary outcome was the frequency of acute URTIs after 3 and 6 months post-treatment follow-up. Secondary endpoints were changes in complaints and symptoms (total and individual scores), treatment satisfaction, antibiotic use, safety and tolerability.RESULTS: The intention-to-treat analysis involved 200 children (CalSuli-4-02: N=99, CONTROL: N=101). In both treatment groups, the median number of acute URTIs was one for 3 months and two, respectively, for the full 6 months post-treatment (Relative Risk: 0.86 (95 %-CI: 0.72-1.03), p=0.1099). Seasons had no influence on the outcome. At the end of study, CalSuli-4-02 had overall higher odds of getting lower complaints severity total score (Odds ratio: 1.99 (95 %-CI: 1.31-3.02), p=0.0012) and showing symptom improvement (Odds ratio: 1.93 (95 %-CI: 1.25-3.00), p=0.0033). Specifically, the complaint"appetite disorder"and the symptom"child's activities"significantly improved more in the CalSuli-4-02 group (p=0.0135 and p=0.0063, respectively). Antibiotic use was decreased in both treatment groups at the study end. Overall assessment for satisfaction with and tolerability of treatment was higher with CalSuli-4-02. A low number of non-serious adverse drug reactions was reported (CalSuli-4-02:N=4, CONTROL: N=1).CONCLUSIONS: Both complex homeopathic products led to a comparable reduction of URTIs. In the CalSuli-4-02 group, significantly less URTI-related complaints and symptoms and higher treatment satisfaction and tolerability were detected. The observation that the use of antibiotics was reduced upon treatment with the complex homeopathic medications, without the occurrence of complications, is interesting and warrants further investigations on the potential of CalSuli-4-02 as an antibiotic spa...

Large island found to west of Britain thought to be mythical Emerald Isle "IndyWatch Feed Satire"

An expedition sailing due west of the British mainland has reported discovering a substantial landmass thought now by many to be the mythical Emerald Isle, a make believe place that for many hundreds of years Britain has chosen to dismiss as nonexistent, or perhaps at the very most, insignificant and of no real consequence whatsoever.

Calling itself Ireland, it appears the new country is reported to be inhabited by a clever, lyrical and artistically gifted people who have even evolved their own social structures and government, running it all totally independent of Britains influence and interference.

But Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson, was sceptical upon hearing the news. Poppycock! This is pure nonsense. A land full of Guinness, little people, singing pubs and Riverdance is just the sort of fairytale stuff I was taught by Nanny OShea. Next youll be telling me that theyve won The Eurovision Song Contest seven times and that James Joyce wasnt British!

However our government may have to wake up and smell the espresso, as it seems Ireland is already part of the EU and has considerable influence with the other member nations over Britains ability to negotiate a workable Brexit solution.

When asked how she intends to handle the situation Theresa May said: It does all seem something of a far-fetched yarn, but if Ireland is a real country then we might perhaps have to take it into our calculations.

Meanwhile Arlene Foster, leader of Britains most north-westerly colony has cautioned dealing with what she has called these Irish upstarts and has sent a brief message to Mrs May simply saying: NO!

Moreover, a long-term study was conducted on a subset of 107/165 patients, consecutively visited from 1998 to 2006, and with5 years follow-up. The study also investigated the evolution of overall symptoms in those patients with a complex atopic symptomatology.RESULTS: 75.8% of atopic children had moderate or major improvement (67.1% with asthma as the primary disease; 84.2% rhinitis; 84.2% dermatitis). At re-evaluation after 5-10 years, complete remission of atopic symptoms was obtained in 70.1% of the children: 84.2% in dermatitis; 48.1% in allergic rhinitis; 71.4% in asthma. Children with two or three atopic diseases at the first visit were completely cured in 40% of cases.CONCLUSION: The results seem to confirm that homeopathic medicine produces positive therapeutic response in atopic children.

HIV 30c nosode has therapeutic potential for inducing cytotoxic effects on A549 cells "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Homeopathy. 2017 Nov ;106(4):203-213. Epub 2017 Oct 12. PMID: 29157470 Abstract Title:  Therapeutic potential of HIV nosode 30c as evaluated in A549 lung cancer cells. Abstract:  OBJECTIVES: To examine if HIV nosode in 30c dilution (HIV 30c) has therapeutic potential against lung cancer cells (A549) as compared to WRL-68 normal cells and to elucidate its possible molecular mechanism of action on DNA replication and apoptosis.METHODS: Effects of HIV 30c were thoroughly tested for its possible anticancer potential on A549 cells (lung cancer); WRL-68 normal liver cells served as control. Three doses, one at LD50 and two below LD-50, were used. Proliferation, migration and senescence assays were made and generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) studied by routine techniques. The ability of HIV 30c to induce apoptosis in A549 cells and its possible signalling pathway were determined using immunoblots of relevant signal proteins and confocal microscopy, including studies on telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) and topoisomerase II (Top II) activities, intimately associated with cell division and DNA replication.RESULTS: HIV 30c prevented cancer cell proliferation and migration, induced pre-mature senescence, enhanced pro-apoptotic signal proteins like p53, bax, cytochrome c, caspase-3 and inhibited anti-apoptotic signal proteins Bcl2, TERT and Top II, changed mitochondrial membrane potential and caused externalization of phosphatidyl serine. Thus, it induced apoptosis as also evidenced from increase in cells with distorted membrane morphology, nuclear condensation, DNA fragmentation, and ROS, typical of apoptosis in progress.CONCLUSION: HIV 30c nosode has therapeutic potential for inducing cytotoxic effects on A549 cells as manifested by changes in nuclear condensation, DNA fragmentation, ROS generation and MMP, and for its inhibitory action on cell proliferation, cell migration, expression of telomerase reverse transcriptase and Top II genes, and increasing expression of pro-apoptotic genes.
