James Comey Calls On Patriots: Stand Up To Trump! "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

Former FBI director who was fired by president Donald Trump, and infamous for protecting the corrupt democrat, Hillary Clinton is calling on patriots.  Hes asking all patriots to stand up to Trumps behavior.

According to CNN, James Comey has expressed his outrage with President Donald Trump on Monday, saying he had taken the side of Russian President Vladimir Putin over his own country and calling on people to stand up against him. In a Twitter post, Comey asked patriots to reject the behavior of this president.

Former CIA Director John Brennan went as far as calling Trumps statements treasonous, while former Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel called it a sad day for the world, and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, a CNN national security analyst, said Trump had essentially capitulated.

The former intelligence community seems to be rather offended that Americans continue to reject their evidence-less assessment that Russia meddled in the 2016 election.  In fact, Russia has repeatedly denied such, and so far, other than some ridiculously worded social media ads laced with spelling and grammar errors, there hasnt been much proof presented...

Springfield City commission to review fluoride ballot proposal "IndyWatch Feed Health"

Springfield City Commissioners will vote Tuesday on whether to put a measure on the ballot this fall to fluoridate the public water supply.

If approved, voters would likely decide in November on whether to add fluoride to the water in Springfield and New Carlisle, said Charles Patterson, commissioner of the Clark County Combined Health District. Voters rejected similar proposals twice before, most recently in 2005, he said. But he said theres more support from several public entities for this proposal than there had been in the past.

The city has to seek approval from voters before moving ahead because residents have shot down previous efforts, Patterson said. City officials did not return a call Monday seeking comment.

Springfield is the largest city in Ohio that doesnt have fluoridated water, Patterson said.

The proposed ballot measure is the result of a Community Health Improvement Plan developed in 2015 to determine what health-related issues are most important to the region. Patterson said the top complaint at the Springfield Regional Medical Centers emergency room was visits from residents who complained about pain related to oral health.

More than 32 percent of Clark County residents have had between one and five permanent teeth removed because of tooth decay or gum disease, according to the Community Health Assessment. Adding a small amount of fluoride to the water supply emerged as a cost-effective and effective way to improve dental health for thousands of Clark County residents, Patterson said. City officials recently visited Middletown to see how similar-sized city is addressing the issue, he said.

In 1969, Ohio legislators passed a law requiring fluoridation of public water supplies that serve more than 5,000 people. But Springfield voters voted to become exempt from the law later that year.

Fluoridation of the public water supply was placed on the ballot in 2005 but was defeated as 57 percent of voters came out against the issue. Many of those opposed expressed concern about adding a potentially toxic chemical to Springfields water.

If approved, it would likely be a few years before fluoride would be added to the water. The equipment to treat the water would likely be paid for through a Ohio Department of Health grant through the Delta Dental Foundation which would cover the entire initial cost. The grant would also cover about half the cost for replacement equipment when thats eventually needed.

Patterson said he expects some opposition, but argued fluoride has proven to be a safe, effective way to improve oral health in a community. He said the health district will do its best to provide accurate information about the issue,...

Are You Fluoridated? "IndyWatch Feed Health"

Its time we look at the fact that we are being dosed with a chemical, in an unmonitored and unstudied way, without our consent.

What if I told you that your drinking water, and everything made from it drinks to soups was poisoned? What if I then told you that this poison was being presented as a health-giving intervention, presumed to be in your best interest? You might wonder how such a reality could have ever taken hold.

Are You Fluoridated?

The sordid history of fluoridation reads like a sci-fi novel, now, being brought to the attention of the masses by efforts such as this short documentary entitled Our Daily Dose. Spend 20 minutes taking this in:

Fluoride is out of an era when valium was prescribed to housewives, feet were x-rayed for shoe size, cigarettes were harmless, and nuclear testing was exciting to watch. We knew less and understood the world differently.

Despite superficial claims to aid in tooth decay prevention, internal documents reveal that fluoride was a fertilizer industry byproduct that found a home in municipal water treatment. Not dissimilar to the crediting of vaccination with decline in infectious disease, decline in tooth decay (until 2010) has been attributed to fluoridation of the water supply, despite the fact that this trend has been mirrored in countries with unfluoridated water. What it does result in, however, is dental fluorosis, a tell-tail sign of toxicity.

With public policy lagging behind emerging science by decades, safe...

Shark Tanks Kevin OLeary Sees Ethereum Will Beat Bitcoin and Gain Dominance "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Kevin OLeary, a prominent Canadian entrepreneur, the co-founder of OLeary Funds and SoftKey, and one of the stars of Shark Tank, has said in an interview with CNBCs Fast Money that Ethereum has taken one step closer to become the next leader in crypto and blockchain, surpassing bitcoin.

Developer Activity is Best Indicator For Price Trend

Previously, Ivey Business School professor JP Vergne said the best and most accurate indicator of a cryptocurrencys growth in price and volume is its developer activity. On June 18, NewsBTC reported Ethereum is gaining more than 50,000 new developers on a monthly basis, more than any other public blockchain network in the global market.

As of July, there exists more than 1,500 decentralized applications (dapps) on Ethereum, ranging from prediction platforms like Augur to decentralized exchanges such as IDEX, equipped with developers who have a shared vision to commercialize the blockchain across various multi-trillion dollar industries.

OLeary, AKA Mr. Wonderful, said during his CNBC interview that the dialogue has changed over the past two months, in a drastic manner, and optimism around Ethereum, the second most valuable cryptocurrency behind bitcoin, has begun to intensify.

By the way, the dialogue Ive noticed on bitcoin over the last 60 days has dramatically changed. It started to sound like the pioneer with arrows in its back because people are saying its not the definitive platform anymore. Maybe Ethereum is becoming the new platform. All of the sudden, Bitcoin? Whats Bitcoin? That is not good for Bitcoin investors. Just a personal opinion, but i were long Bitcoin right now, I would start to worry about it, OLeary said.

Ethereum and Decentralized Applications

The case for Ethereum surpassing bitcoin as the leading public blockchain network revolves around the basic idea that dapps would gain significant popularity over the next few years, as the core developers work to improve the scalability of the Ethereum network.

Vitalik Buterin, the co-creator of Ethereum, stated that the implementation of Sharding and Plasma, two second-layer scaling solutions, could lead to a million transactions per second on Ethereum, by creating a more flexible ecosystem for dapps while leveraging the main Ethereum chain for security.

Exposure to cigarette smoke activates stem cell features of pancreatic cells. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Gastroenterology. 2018 Jun 1. Epub 2018 Jun 1. PMID: 29864419 Abstract Title:  Cigarette Smoke Induces Stem Cell Features of Pancreatic Cancer Cells via PAF1. Abstract:  BACKGROUND & AIMS: Cigarette smoking is a major risk factor for pancreatic cancer. Aggressive pancreatic tumors contain cancer cells with stem cell features. We investigated whether cigarette smoke induces stem cell features in pancreatic cancer cells.METHODS: Kras; Pdx1-Cre (KC) mice were exposed to cigarette smoke or clean air (controls) for up to 20 weeks; pancreata were collected and analyzed by histology, quantitative reverse transcription PCR, and confocal immunofluorescence microscopy. HPNE and Capan1 cells were exposed to cigarette smoke extract (CSE), nicotine and nicotine-derived carcinogens (NNN or NNK), or clean air (controls) for 80 days and evaluated for stem cell markers and features using flow cytometry-based autofluorescence, sphere formation, and immunoblot assays. Proteins were knocked down in cells with small interfering RNAs. We performed RNA sequencing analyses of CSE-exposed cells. We used chromatin immunoprecipitation assays to confirm the binding of FOS like 1, AP-1 transcription factor subunit (FOSL1) to RNA polymerase II-associated factor (PAF1) promoter. We obtained pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and matched non-tumor tissues (n=15) and performed immunohistochemical analyses.RESULTS: Chronic exposure of HPNE and Capan1 cells to CSE caused them to increase markers of stem cells, including autofluorescence and sphere formation, compared to control cells. These cells increased expression of ABCG2, SOX9 and PAF1, via cholinergic receptor nicotinic alpha 7 subunit (CHRNA7) signaling to mitogen-activated protein kinase 1 and FOSL1. Pancreatic cell lines with knockdown of PAF1 did not develop features of stem cells upon exposure to CSE. Exposure of cells to NNN and NNK led to increased expression of CHRNA7, FOSL1, and PAF1 along with stem cell features. Pancreata from KC mice exposed to cigarette smoke had increased levels of PAF1 mRNA and protein, compared with control mice, as well as increased expression of SOX9. Levels of PAF1 and FOSL1 were increased in PDAC tissues, especially those from smokers, compared with non-tumor pancreatic tissue. CSE exposure increased expression of PHD finger protein 5A, a pluripotent transcription factor and its interaction with PAF1.CONCLUSIONS: Exposure to cigarette smoke activates stem cell features of pancreatic cells, via CHRNA7 signaling and FOSL1 activation of PAF1 expression. Levels of PAF1 are increased in pancreatic tumors of humans and mice with chronic cigarette smoke exposure.

Global Financial Watchdog May Restrict Bank Exposure to Crypto "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The Financial Securities Board (FSB) has released its report covering crypto assets for the G20 and is considering lowering the exposure of banks to cryptocurrencies. This would be to increase transparency and reduce the risk of financial instability, even though the report said crypto assets do not pose a material threat.

FSB Considers Bank Restrictions

The FSB has put forward the notion of restricting the exposure of banks to crypto assets. This may require banks to make changes to how much capital they hold in relation to their exposure to cryptocurrencies.

The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) is currently assessing the amount of exposure to crypto assets which may be followed by a structured data collection exercise. The report referenced current minimal requirements for the capital and liquidity treatment of non-crypto assets. Based on this data collection and separate quantitive analyses, the BCBS will conclude on the level of risk of cryptocurrencies.

Some reports have claimed that the regulations could lead to an increase in costs for banks and financial institutions. By having higher capital requirements due to assets that are more volatile, this could result in less efficiency for such businesses.

The report investigated the dangers concerning cryptocurrency exchanges following recent hacks, such as Bithumb. It said crypto exchanges may be failing to comply with laws applicable to exchanges. It also considered that some cryptocurrency platforms may all within the remit of securities regulators although it was confirmed on July 16 that Coinbase will soon be able to offer security tokens.

Restrictions Would Damage Crypto Adoption

These restrictions would have an impact on the pace of adoption of crypto assets. Several banks have started to get involved in the market, including Natwest which today announced it has signed onto the Marco Polo platform created by R3 and TradeIX. Barclays has also provided Coinbase with a bank account...

AI and the future of medical treatment "IndyWatch Feed Health"

AI and the future medical treatment

By Jon Rappoport

Oh Doctor, whats ailing me? Can I get a diagnosis? Whats that? AI [artificial intelligence] is handling it now? You mean I just go online and see the results of my tests and read the diagnosis and pick up my drugs outside my front door? Wow. Very nice.

Really? Is it very nice?

As AI creeps and crawls into the realm of medical diagnosis and treatment, and as it spreads under the banner of more precise care for the patient, remember that AI embeds false data more firmly than any human doctor can. Once its in there, how do you get rid of it?

Im sorry, sir. There is no human to speak with. All our data are produced by algorithms

For example, suppose the flu you have isnt the flu? Suppose its something else? AI would still diagnose you with flu, based on your profile of symptoms, and you could be prescribed a toxic antiviral drug you dont need, and also put on a warning list of people whose flu shot isnt up to date.

Dr. Peter Doshi, writing in the online BMJ (British Medical Journal), reveals a monstrosity.

As Doshi states, every year hundreds of thousands of respiratory samples are taken from flu patients in the US and tested in labs. Here is the kicker: only a small percentage of these samples show the presence of a flu virus.

This means: most of the people in America who are diagnosed by doctors with the flu have no...

How to go beyond console.log and get the most out of your browsers debugging console "IndyWatch Feed Education"

An old console

The console object is a very useful feature of browsers that has been around for many years. It provides access to the browsers debugging console.
Most web developers know how to print messages to the console using console.log. But Ive found that many dont know about other features of the console, even though they can be very useful for every web developer.

In this post, Ill go over some of these lesser known features and capabilities. I hope that you will find them useful and interesting, and will incorporate them into your day to day workflow and code.

I added a screenshot of the result of each example. If you want to try things for yourself, just open the DevTools and copy-paste the examples.

Using multiple arguments

It is quite common to log several values together. These may be a message along with a related value or the content of several related variables.

Here are two ways Ive seen developers achieve this:

1. String concatenation

const a = 123;
const b = 'abc';
const c = {aa: 234, bb: 345};
console.log('Foo bar ' + a + ' ' + b + ' ' + c);
Result of string concatenation

2. Using multiple calls

const a = 123;
const b = 'abc';
const c = {aa: 234, bb: 345};
console.log('Foo bar');
console.log(a);
console.log(b);
console.log(c);
Result of multiple calls

These methods may work (sort of), but:

  • They are not flexible
  • They are not very readable
  • They are cumbersome to write
  • They need special means to work properly with object variables

There are several better alternatives for outputting many variables. The most useful one for quick data dump is sending multiple arguments to console.log, like so:

const a = 123;
const b = 'abc';
const c = {aa: 234, bb: 345};
console.log('Foo bar', a, b, c);
Result of multiple arguments

This is very handy for debugging, but the output is not very controllable. For output that is intended to be read (like for a library), I would use a different method, which well get to later on.

Using different log levels

Besides the familiar console.log, there are other logging methods that correspond to different log levels:

console.debug('Deb...

The Best Way To Educate Politicians And Government Agencies About Wi-Fi, EMF Frequencies And The Adverse Health Effects Accruing From Them "IndyWatch Feed Health"

By Catherine J. Frompovich

Slowly, but surely, many high tech consumers are coming to the rough realization that the very devices they have fallen in love with and depend upon, i.e., iPhones, smart phones, and other products that use microwaves to send and receive voice, data, photos, games, etc. are emitting frequencies which are affecting their wellbeing, giving them brain fog and exposing them to Electrosmog [1], a form of electronic pollution.

Furthermore, many folks have come to the extremely sad realization they now are electromagnetically hypersensitive (EHS), but dont know what to do about it or how to deal with it. That unfortunate health problem results from constant exposures 24/7/365 to EMFs and RFs emitted by utilities (electric, natural gas and water) AMI Smart Meters; cell phone and towers; HAN and LAN networks at work and at home; ubiquitous Wi-Fi, especially in schools, workplaces and public cafs; 4G and the super-fast 5G, which will have more serious health consequences [2-3] than is being acknowledged by the U.S. FCC, ICNIRP and the World Health Organization.

The Engineers guide to the future "IndyWatch Feed Education"

This post is a vision for the near to medium future, aimed at engineersor developers, coders, designers, or whatever else you want to call people who use computers to make new and amazing things. The creators. Its also aimed at anyone else interested in the future and what is coming, and what they can do to prepare for it.

So basically, this is for everyone!

My full-time job is innovationexploring new and emerging technology to see how it can be of use. Can it bring business value, can it improve customer satisfaction, can it make customers lives safer and more secure, can it make money or save money? Part of this is looking into the future and trying to predict what is going to happen, or at least, what could happen.

I believe that we need to keep up with technology to keep learningnew languages, new interfaces, new platforms, new user habits, new designsor we will be left behind. We cant assume that what were doing now will be relevant in the future. So heres a few thoughts on the future, and what I think that engineers (and everyone else!) should do to prepare themselves.

The Future is Augmented

Augmented Reality (AR), also known as Mixed Reality (MR) or even more trendily, Extended Reality (XR), is approaching blockchain levels of hype.

With the advent of ARKit and ARCore, augmented reality apps are now a lot easier to make. There are a lot of people trying to sell them as amazingly groundbreaking, with the ability to change retail, health, finance, whatever!

I love AR and have been experimenting with it for a while now. From building the mandatory portal apps, to building an app to map out floor plans, to making a crazy game for a kids coding event (with tutorial and open-source code), Ive learned firsthand how to build AR experiences and how fun they can be.

Its Not the End, Mother Cried at Her Son When Taken Back to Prison Cell

Its not the end. Lyn Ulbricht had cried at her son in the courtroom when a marshal set his hand on his back to signal it was time to return to the cell after hearing the sentence. That was in Manhattans U.S. district court in May 2015. That day, Lyn had declared she would never turn away from her son, whom she considers innocent. The fight to seek justice for their son is not over for this family.

My son, Ross Ulbricht, is serving a double life sentence plus 40 years, without the possibility of parole, for a website he made when he was 26 years old and passionate about free markets and privacy. New Fissure Near Yellowstone Supervolcano Causes Teton National Park Closure "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

A 100-foot-long fissure near the Yellowstone supervolcano has prompted the closure of parts of Teton National Park. Coupled with the Steamboat geysers newly active status, fears of an eruption at the Yellowstone caldera are increasing.

Teton National Park has issued a statement regarding the newly opened up fissure, according to WoodTVThe Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point areas are currently closed due to elevated potential for rockfall. The area was closed to protect human safety on July 10 after expanding cracks in a rock buttress were detected.  It is unknown how long the closure will be in effect. Geologists are monitoring the buttress for movement and have initiated a risk assessment for the area.

Although scientists continue to tell the public the possibility of a major eruption is incredibly small, they also believe its worth the effort to constantly monitor the area. Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point are both closed and both are located in the popular Jenny Lake area. They are among the parks busiest attractions. Other Jenny Lake attractions, including the ferry, remain open.  There is no estimate on when these locations could reopen.

Were really going to need a few more days of data to make a solid determination if the rock is still moving, park spokesman Andrew White said Friday according to Strange Sounds. Following data collection, park rangers will conduct a risk assessment to determine if the area can be reopened, he said.

US Officials Robbed Of Plutonium And Dirty Bomb Materials "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

This report was originally published by Tyler Durden at Zero Hedge

We wish we could say this is from The Onion but its a now viral story thats but the latest representation of extreme government incompetence in handling deadly radioactive materials. Two Department of Energy security officials tasked with transporting deadly substances left plutonium in the back of their Ford Expedition, where it was promptly stolen from a Marriott parking lot in San Antonio.

And over a year later and after what appears to be a ham-handed investigation that was prematurely shut down perhaps for fear of public embarrassment, authorities still have no clue as to the whereabouts of what the government admits are bomb-usable materials.

Marriott parking lot, site of the Plutonium theft. San Antonio police said they responded to 87 thefts there in 2016 and 2017 alone. Via MySanAntonio

An investigative report by the watchdog group, the Center for Public Integritydetails a March 2017 sensitive mission by two security experts from the Department of Energys Idaho National Laboratory to transport dangerous nuclear materials from a nonprofit lab in San Antonio back to a high-secure government facility in Idaho.

This involved specialized equipment, which the report describes as a plastic-covered disk of plutonium, a material that can be used to fuel nuclear weapons, and another of cesium, a highly radioactive isotope that could potentially be used in a so-called dirty radioactive bomb.

The moment where the theft is recounted is worth viewing in the original report, given how unbelievable the scenario:

On Stanley Kunitz and the Fine Arts Work Center "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

The Fine Arts Work Center.

When my wife and I first started dating, the poet Stanley Kunitz, one of the founders of the Fine Arts Work Center, visited her in a dream. She told him about our budding romance, and he said, with all the brightness and benevolence one would expect, Thats wonderful! Wonderful! (We later named our spaniel after him, though he turned out to be more like Stan Laurel than Stanley Kunitz.) That Stanley Kunitz might travel through the weird ether of dreams seems not wholly far-fetched. He believed in the necessary work done by the secret, sleeping self, busy tunneling the purple sea, as he puts it in an early poem. That belief was at the bedrock of his poetry and his teaching, and it continues to shape the institutions that he helped create, Poets House in New York City and the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts, in particular.

This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the Fine Arts Work Center. At its heart is its fellowship program, which from October to May each year hosts ten artists and ten writers in the early stages of their careers. Fellows are given a monthly stipend and a place to live and work. The Work Center also holds a robust summer program of workshops, readings, and artist talks, as well as online classes all year round. It is, as the name suggests, a place to work and was built, fittingly, on the site of a former lumberyard.

Stanley Kunitz first visited the brine-spiked air of Provincetown in the early thirties, driving there on a whim in his Ford Model A from his farm in Connecticut. I loved the contours of the land and the immanence of the sea and the great sky, he said, so that was my original impression. It was another twenty years and three marriages, however, before he returned to the Cape. In 1958, he and his third wife, the painter Elise Asher, began spending summers there, renting a dilapidated shack on the beach that had previously been the studio of the painter Blanche Lazzell. Their house became a gathering place for their friends, many of them painters, including Mark Rothko, Franz Kline, and Ro...

Bitcoin Price Retakes Key Moving Average for First Time in Two Months "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Bitcoin (BTC) scaled the crucial 50-day moving average (MA) on Monday for the very first time in almost two months, carrying its cost above $6,700.
The corrective rally picked up the pace twenty four hours ago, perhaps due to reports saying that BlackRock, INC the worlds biggest asset manager and exchange-traded fund (ETF) supplier is considering venturing into cryptocurrency markets. Later in the day, BlackRock Chief executive officer Larry Fink clarified rumors by saying he doesnt see a large need for cryptocurrencies from customers,
However, BTC remained bidding and closed (as per UTC) over the 20-day MA for the very first time since May 20, validating the debate a short-term bottom has been made at $5,755 (June 24 low).
Whilst a move over the 50-day MA is encouraging, it doesnt qualify as a bullish reversal.  Only a convincing break above the reverse head-and-shoulders neckline of $6,838 would confirm that a short-term bearish-to-bullish trend shift.
At press time, the leading cryptocurrency is changing hands at $6,720 on Bitfinex up 5% in the last twenty five hours and the 50-day MA is situated at $6,720.
Daily chart

BTCs rally from the two-week low of $6,080, hit on Thursday, to todays high of $6,771 has established a high low (bullish pattern) on the daily chart.
Further, the relative strength index (RSI) has moved over 50.00 (in bullish territory) and the short-term moving averages (5-day, 10-day) are starting to rise in favor of the bulls.
Therefore, the cryptocurrency looks set to test $6,838 (reverse head-and-shoulders neckline barrier ), albeit following a small intraday pullback as the short-duration graphs are flashing overbought conditions.
4-hour chart

The RSI is stationed well over 70.00, indicating the rally from $6,080 is overdone. Therefore, prices could revisit the 10-candle MA support of $6,580 in the next several hours.
View

BTC looks set to test $6,838 (reverse head-and-shoulders neckline), albeit following a small pullback as the cryptocurrency is looking overbought as per intraday specialized studies.
A close (as per UTC) over $6,838 would confirm that a short-term bearish-to-bullish trend change and would open up upside towards $7,920 (target as per the measured height procedure ). That said, bulls would still have to observe caution as the area between $7,000-$7,100 is packaged with stiff resistance lines.
On the downside, a close below 20-day MA of $6,448 would weaken the odds of an reverse head-and-shoulders breakout.

Latest radiation count from Alaskan waters shows halibut and all salmon measure higher levels of radiation than previous years "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Photo credit Wikipedia
This morning in my in-tray arrived the latest update from our intrepid explorer Bill up there in Alaska and his recent results, as he keeps an eye on radiation levels in the fish up there.
Bill, who is deeply respected and trusted by thousands of readers on The Big Wobble has released his latest findings exclusively to The Big Wobble and its not good.
All the fish he has monitored on his latest update have shown increased radiation.

Greetings Gary & Readers of The Big Wobble,

Just a quick update on the seafood radiation issue in Alaska. Today I checked red (Sockeye) salmon and halibut. The halibut is showing higher levels of radiation than the red salmon. But at this time, the red salmon, which should be in our rivers in abundance, are so far, very low in their return numbers. Are they just late or are they dead?

It has been my experience that the red salmon have read lower for radiation than the pinks (Humpback/Humpy), kings (Chinook), silvers (Coho) and Chum salmon. I believe this is due to the fact the red salmon are a vegetarian salmon.

The radiation level for the red salmon and halibut are higher than in previous years. I will do my best to keep you posted throughout the summer and I encourage everyone to NOT eat seafood.

Here is an easy way to remember the five types of Salmon found in Alaska. You learn them by looking at your hand!

  • Your Thumb rhymes with Chum, hence Chum Salmon
  • Your pointer finger is something you might...

3 Natural, Evidence-Based Aphrodisiacs For Women

According to the ancient Greeks, the apple represented abundance and fertility.  In some quarters, it was customary for a bride to eat an apple on her wedding night.  This was believed to ensure sexual desire, as well as fertility leading to babies.

You might think that's all a silly superstition.  But Italian researchers discovered women who eat an apple a day may in fact enjoy better sexual function.

Hive OS A New Linux GPU Mining Platform Gaining Popularity "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

There are a number of Linux-based mining distributions available out there, but most of them do have some limitation or a drawback or maybe are not very user friendly for non-advanced users. Hive OS is a relatively new Linux based mining platform that is trying to change that and offer a single package for all your GPU and even Bitmain ASIC miners for easy deployment, monitoring and control. The installation of the OS on any AMD or Nvidia GPU mining rig is quick and easy and then you take control from the cloud via a convenient web-based user interface, so no need to remotely login to each system and manage it or monitor it this way. The Hive OS comes with most popular miners for AMD and Nvidia GPUs for many algorithms and they are maintained, though you can add miners yourself as well without the need to compile them yourself from source. The mining platform is ideal for people with more than just a few mining rigs or ASIC miners as it allows you to easily monitor their operation and control them if needed including overclocking or underclocking to optimize them for efficiency or performance.

Hive OS is free to try and use for small miners with up to 3 mining rigs with some limitations, when you go above 3 mining rigs there is a fee of 3$ per mining rig per month that you need to pay in order to continue using the software. The good thing is that you can register and try it for free and if it works for your needs and covers your requirements you can then start deploying it on a large mining farm for example. Do note that there are differ...

Science: Electric car batteries souped-up with fluorinated electrolytes for longer-range driving [Report] "IndyWatch Feed Health"

The success of electric car batteries depends on the miles that can be driven on a single charge, but the current crop of lithium-ion batteries are reaching their natural limit of how much charge can be packed into any given space, keeping drivers on a short tether. Now, researchers at the University of Maryland (UMD), the U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL), and Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) have figured out how to increase a rechargeable batterys capacity by using aggressive electrodes and then stabilizing these potentially dangerous electrode materials with a highly-fluorinated electrolyte.

A peer-reviewed paper based on the research was published July 16 in the journal Nature Nanotechnology.

We have created a fluorine-based electrolyte to enable a lithium-metal anode, which is known to be notoriously unstable, and demonstrated a battery that lasts up to a thousand cycles with high capacity, said co-first authors Xiulin Fan and Long Chen, postdoctoral researchers at UMDs A. James Clark School of Engineering.

The new batteries can thus charge and discharge many times over without losing the ability to provide a reliable and high quality stream of energy. Even after a thousand charge cycles, the fluorine enhanced electrolytes ensured 93% of battery capacity, which the authors call unprecedented. This means that a car running on this technology would reliably drive the same number of miles for many years.

The cycle lives they achieved with the given electrode materials and operation voltage windows sound unprecedented. This work is a [sic] great progress forward in the battery field in the direction of increasing the energy density, although further tuning might be needed to meet various standards for commercialization, said Jang Wook Choi, an associate professor in chemical and biological engineering at Seoul National University in South Korea. Choi was not involved with the research.

The team demonstrated the batteries in coin-cell shape like a watch battery for testing and is working with industry partners to use the electrolytes for a high voltage battery.

These aggressive materials, such as the lithium-metal anode and nickel and high-voltage cathode materials, are called such because they react strongly with other material, meaning that they can hold a lot of energy but also tend to eat up any other elements theyre partnered with, rendering them unusable.

Chunsheng Wang, professor in the Clark Schools Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, has collaborated with Kang Xu at ARL and Khalil Amine at ANL on these new electrolyte materials for batteries. Since each element on the periodic...

Worlds First Bank-Backed Crypto Exchange Finally Opens to the Public "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The worlds very first bank backed cryptocurrency market is now open for the public after months of delays. Japanese financial giant SBI Holdings officially launched its home cryptocurrency trading platform dubbed VCTRADE last month. Nevertheless, as reported by CoinDesk at that time, the trading service was only available for a group of selected users that pre enrolled with the platform in October 2017. In a statement published on Tuesday, SBI Holdings said the service is now fully open for users elderly from 20-70 who live in Japan. But a registration service for corporate clients hasnt yet been made available. In its June launch, VCTRADE declared itll originally support trading of Japanese yen against XRP, the native token of the ripple protocol a move that contrasts with the institutions wider aid for XRP in the cross-border blockchain settlement.

Afterward, the platform added yen based trading pairs to get bitcoin money and bitcoin on June 8 and 15, respectively. Todays public launch comes 2 years after SBI Holdings first announced itd build the market in October 2016. VCTRADE obtained an operating license from Japans financial watchdog, the Financial Services Agency, late last year.
