Why Are We Siding With al-Qaeda? "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

This article was originally published by Ron Paul at the Ron Paul Institute

Last week, I urged the Secretary of State and National Security Advisor to stop protecting al-Qaeda in Syria by demanding that the Syrian government leave Idlib under al-Qaeda control. While it may seem hard to believe that the US government is helping al-Qaeda in Syria, its not as strange as it may seem: our interventionist foreign policy increasingly requires Washington to partner up with bad guys in pursuit of its dangerous and aggressive foreign policy goals.

Does the Trump Administration actually support al-Qaeda and ISIS? Of course not. But the experts who run Trumps foreign policy have determined that a de facto alliance with these two extremist groups is for the time being necessary to facilitate the more long-term goals in the Middle East. And what are those goals? Regime change for Iran.

Lets have a look at the areas where the US is turning a blind eye to al-Qaeda and ISIS.

First, Idlib. As I mentioned last week, President Trumps own Special Envoy to fight ISIS said just last year that Idlib Province is the largest Al Qaeda safe haven since 9/11. So why do so many US officials including President Trump himself keep warning the Syrian government not to re-take its own territory from al-Qaeda control? Wouldnt they be doing us a favor by ridding the area of al-Qaeda? Well, if Idlib is re-taken by Assad, it all but ends the neocon (and Saudi and Israeli) dream of regime change for Syria and a black eye to Syrias ally, Iran.

Second, one of the last groups of ISIS fighters in Syria are around the Al-Tanf US military base which has operated illegally in northeastern Syria for the past two years. Last week, according to press reports, the Russians warned the US military in the region that it was about to launch an assault on ISIS fighters around the US base. The US responded by sending in 100 more US Marines and conducting a live-fire exercise as a warning. President Trump recently reversed himself (again) and announced that the US would remain at Al-Tanf indefinitely. Why? It is considered a strategic point from which to attack Iran. The US means to stay there even if it means turning a blind eye to ISIS in the neighborhood.

Finally, in Yemen, the US/Saudi coalition fighting the Houth...

Mistakes a prepper must avoid when using a boot knife
Author: John Lewis

Nowadays, people in this self-reliance journey are starting to pay more attention towards boot knives because it is easier to carry it around and better to conceal. This can be seen clearly when you are comparing between concealing a knife and a firearm.

Of course, choosing a suitable bootknife is an art by itself, where you have to look at several aspects such as the Blade-point design where there are straight back blade, sheepsfoot blade and spear point blade which you can choose from.

Recap: Crypto Exchange OKEx CEO Allegedly Arrested by Shanghai Police "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

According to a report from Chinas Sina News, Star Xu, the founder of cryptocurrency exchanges OKEx and OKCoin, has been arrested by Shanghai authorities on the suspicion of committing fraud against investors. He has now been released from custody due to a lack of evidence connecting him to a potentially fraudulent cryptocurrency project taking place in Shanghais jurisdiction.

Star Xu Off The Hook For Now

The fraud accusation against Star Xu stem from a cryptocurrency project Xu is involved in, called WFee Coin. Xu is a shareholder in the project, which describes themselves as being the worlds first WiFi sharing eco-system based on blockchain technology designed for the globe, with a goal of solving security, trust, sharing willingness and privacy issues accrued from WiFi sharing.

The controversy regarding the WFee coin is due to multiple investor complaints to Shanghai authorities regarding the issuance of the tokens and the purpose of the fundraising effort, which many investors claimed was fraudulent with the goal of enriching the founding team, rather than developing a practical product.

Star Xu was taken in by the Shanghai police for questioning due to his suspected relations to the fraudulent project. Following news of the arrest, cnLedger, a China-based blockchain and cryptocurrency news publication, reported that Xus Shanghai company did not have any involvement in the WFee project, and that the suspected fraud was actually conducted by Xu in Beijing.

It now appears that Xu has since been released by Shanghai authorities, and that they are handing over all the evidence to authorities in Bejing. It is unclear at this time whether or not the Beijing authorities will take any actions against Xu.

According to Heslin Kim, a cryptocurrency researcher based in South Korea, the OKEx team has denied the arrest of Xu, stating t...

The most difficult things about learning to code by yourself and how to tackle them "IndyWatch Feed Education"

white book on brown wooden table by Alexander Michl on Unsplash

Many people have become interested in learning to code in recent years.

They either find their way into programming through online courses, or through offline meet ups, or are just simply trying to give it a shot.

Websites like, codecademy and freeCodeCamp are becoming more and more popular. There are a huge number of coding courses out on the web, and also available on YouTube.

But coding isnt easy. Here are some of the challenges we all face when learning to code.

1. Finding the right amount of time to code everyday.

If you are learning to code by yourself, chances are you have other responsibilities in life.

You could have a part time job, or a full time job, or you can be a stay at home parent. The point is, everyone is busy in this life. So how do you find the time to code everyday?

Some people may say: Well, if you are dedicated enough, you can always find time. True. I agree with that.

So then the question becomes: How much time should you dedicate everyday to code? If I can only get half an hour per day, does that still count?

This is the question only you yourself can answer. It is very hard to estimate how many hours you should code each day. Some people suggest to keep it short and sweet. 15 minutes is good enough.

On the other side of the spectrum, Ive also heard people got into the development field within a year or so by coding 9 or 10 hours a day. If you want some motivation you can give that thread a look.

The bottom line is this: only you yourself know how much you can code everyday, and making it a habit of doing it, without getting burnt out. The last part is really important. freeCodeCamp founder Quincy Larson once said on his twitter feed:

It is not about your daily progress, it is about progress daily.

Here is a video about a senior developer who has been in the tech field for decades talking about how much programming programmers do each day while they are at work.

How to work optimally with relational databases "IndyWatch Feed Education"

Relational databases handle data smoothly, whether working with small volumes or processing millions of rows. We will be looking at how we can use relational databases according to our needs, and get the most out of them.

MySQL has been a popular choice for small to large enterprise companies because of its ability to scale. Similarly, PostgreSQL has also seen a rise in popularity.

According to the Stack Overflow survey 2018, MySQL is the most popular database among all users.

The examples described below are using InnoDB as MySQL engine. These are not limited only to MySQL but are also relevant with other relational databases like PostgreSQL. All the benchmarking is done on a machine with 8GB RAM and with an i5 2.7 GHz processor.

Lets get started with the basics of how relational database store the data.

Understanding Relational Databases

MySQL is a relational database where all data is represented in terms of tuples, grouped into relations. A tuple is represented by its attributes.

Lets say we have an application where people can loan books. We will need to store all the book lending transactions. In order to store them, we have designed a simple relational table with the following command:

> CREATE TABLE book_transactions ( id INTEGER NOT NULL   AUTO_INCREMENT, book_id INTEGER, borrower_id INTEGER, lender_id INTEGER, return_date DATE, PRIMARY KEY (id));

The table looks like:

id borrower_id lender_id book_id return_date

Here id is the primary key and borrower_id, lender_id, book_id are the foreign keys. After we launch our applicatio...

Geomagnetic Solar Storm Approaches: What To Expect "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

A massive hole has opened up in the Suns corona, which means were officially on watch for a geomagnetic storm.  Auroras will be likely across much of North America as the sun heads into a solar minimum.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has issued a storm watch for a G2-level solar storm on September 11. Thats a moderate storm on the 5-level scale, with G5 being the highest, according to Science Alert.  Were currently heading into a solar minimum, the least active period of the Suns 11-year cycle. That means there will be a much lower sunspot, coronal mass ejection, and solar flare activity.

If you are one of those who loves seeing the aurora borealis or the Northern Lights, have your camera handy, because it could be a beautiful show. As the holes open up in the Suns corona, although these are cooler, less dense regions of plasma in the Suns atmosphere, they are also more dramatic with open magnetic fields. These open regions allow the solar winds to escape the Suns surface more easily, blowing electromagnetic radiation into space at high speeds. If Earth is in the way of those solar winds, we could experience some intense outcomes.

While the effects of this wind will be slightly stronger than those of a G1 storm, according to Science Alert, theyll probably pass most of us by. High-latitude power systems may experience voltage alarms due to surges from geomagnetically induced currents, and longer storms can cause transformer damage, but it looks like this storm will be a relatively short one. According to the British Met Office, the solar winds could travel at speeds of up to 600 kilometers per second (372 miles per second) in the next two days.

Beneficial effects of Plantago albicans on high-fat diet-induced obesity. "IndyWatch Feed Health"

PMID:  Biomed Pharmacother. 2016 Dec ;84:1768-1775. Epub 2016 Nov 18. PMID: 27876214 Abstract Title:  Beneficial effects of Plantago albicans on high-fat diet-induced obesity in rats. Abstract:  Obesity is a one of the main global public health problems associated with chronic diseases such as coronary heart disease, diabetes and cancer. As a solution to obesity, we suggest Plantago albicans, which is a medicinal plant with several biological effects. This study assesses the possible anti-obesity protective properties of Plantago albicans in high fat diet-fed rats. 28 male Wistar rats were divided into 4 groups; a group which received normal diet (C), the second group was fed HDF diet (HDF), the third group was given normal diet supplemented with Plantago albicans (P.AL), and the fourth group received HDF supplemented with Plantago albicans (HDF+P.AL) (30mg/kg/day) for 7 weeks. Our results showed an increase in body weight of HDF rats by16% as compared to the control group with an increase in the levels of total cholesterol (TC) as well as LDL-cholesterol, triglycerides (TG) in serum. Also, the concentration of TBARS increased in the liver and heart of HDF-fed rats as compared to the control group. The oral gavage of Plantago albicans extract to obese rats induced a reduction in their body weight, lipid accumulation in liver and heart tissue, compared to the high-fat diet control rats. The obtained results proved that the antioxidant potency of Plantago albicans extracts was correlated with their phenolic and flavonoid contents. The antioxidant capacity of the extract was evaluated by DPPH test (as EC50=2502.12g/mL) and FRAP tests (as EC50=27.770.14g/mL). These results confirm the phytochemical and antioxidant impact of Plantago albicans extracts. Plantago albicans content was determined using validated HPLCmethodology.

How to create a customized data grid using griddle-react "IndyWatch Feed Education"

The Griddle is an ultra customizable data grid component for React. It has the support for cards, nesting, maps and more. Rather than only relying on default behavior, Griddle also allows complete control over whats being displayed. This tutorial attempts to capture the most useful options that can be set when using Griddle.

A few days back, I discussed handling tables using Reactable. It is fast, flexible and simple.

Read this post about reactable to learn more.

Now, its time for griddle-react. Griddle also has support for plugins for a higher level of customization. You can also create your own plugin for any project or use an existing one.

Griddle exists as a component that is structured similarly to many React applications.

Griddle documentation also says:

Griddle is arranged into a series of container and view components. Container components connect to the store, setup logic, and wire up actions to the view components as props.

For a deeper level understanding of the architecture of the package, you can visit the official documentation.

Ill introduce you to some situations with examples on what griddle can do.

The repository for the tutorial is on GitHub. All components can be rendered from the App.js file and will be pre-imported on a final commit. You can just change the component rendered from App to change the components according to the tutorial.

All code snippets will also be available in a GitHub Gist. They are embedded wherever necessary.

Top use cases:

  • Customizable, but still useful out of the box.
  • Custom column or column customization without the need of external CSS.
  • Use existing plugins or create your own and share.

If you need to look at all possible APIs, and I miss some in this tutorial, you can grab those here.

Griddle has a number of props and configuration options that can be used. This tutorial attempts to capture a few useful options that can be set when using Griddle.

Government Anti-Waste Campaigns Actually Increase Waste, Research Shows "IndyWatch Feed Health"

By Mia and Corinne Birau and Faure

Waste has become a serious problem in Western societies. About a third of the food produced in countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia and the United States is wasted. About 40% is wasted by consumers, who buy too much, forget whats in their refrigerator or cupboards, or throw away food that is past its expiration date yet perfectly edible.

Immense amounts of food is discarded by stores or restaurants because they werent sold before the official selling date, or for esthetic reasons vegetables or fruit that have unusual shapes or are too big or too small, or food packages that are distorted Waste also occurs with electronic goods that are discarded even though they work just fine and millions of tons of usable paper that are thrown away every year.

To reduce waste, most governments run communication campaigns. Many try to make consumers feel guilty by telling them how mu...

How To Choose The Right Mobile App For Your GitHub Projects "IndyWatch Feed Education"

On GitHub, you now have 1.5 million organizations with 25 million active repositories. Thats an average of 17 active repos per organization! Developers are participating in more and more GitHub projects at the same time. Still, GitHub doesnt have any official mobile clients. Lets see why and what mobile app alternatives there are in order to see if there is one you should absolutely get.

Over the past few years, Ive contributed to the development of two developer platformsCodinGame and Together they total more than 1M developers. Ive recently co-founded an Engineering Intelligence platform called Anaxi. Think of it as actionable business intelligence for the whole engineering organization. So part of my job is identifying growing trends in software development tools. In other words, I think about this kind of thing quite a lot!

So lets first understand why GitHub is not focusing any resources on any mobile clients.

Why would GitHub not build a mobile app?

The basic reasoning for GitHub to even consider building some mobile clients is likely that the value outweighs the cost in their eyes. And there are many ways to approach this.

The first thought that comes to mind: what do you do most on GitHub? Code reviews, code merge, anything around coding. But have you ever coded on mobile? I havent. And even if you wanted to make a small change in the code, how would you test the code you modified?

Sure, you might also want to comment on GitHub issues, thats true. And I think thats behavior thats much more likely to happen on a mobile device. Just as it turned out that not every email is serious prose, then not everything that goes on in GitHub is significant programming. Sometimes you just want to make small adjustments to an issue.

But actually, thats not what is important in this matter. The important question is, does GitHub gain anything by controlling the user interaction? Whether or not you comment on issues from your mobile, you will almost always end up going to their web application for code reviews and merge.

GitHubs focus has always been to become this inevitable part of the software development process. And to do that, it needed to build a powerful API so that 3rd-party developers could build great user experiences for everything around their versioning service. A mobile client is just part of those user experiences.

Will that change with Microsofts acquisition? Maybe. Even before the acquisition, GitHub had recently been building...

DevCon 4 Will Set the Stage for Ethereums Next Milestone: Constantinople "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

DevCon4 Sets the Stage for Ethereums Next Milestone: Constantinople

Ethereum is embracing the Constantinople milestone at the end of November 2018, after DevCon4 in Prague. Constantinople is the latest Ethereum release, introduced through a hard fork, that will include five Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs):

  • Bitwise shifting instructions (EIP 145) in the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) allow for direct manipulation of bytes on the EVM layer.
  • Skinny CREATE2 (EIP 1014) adds a new opcode that creates a contract but determines the deployed address differently to the existing CREATE opcode.
  • The EXTCODEHASH opcode (EIP 1052) adds an opcode which returns the keccak256 hash of a contacts byte code.
  • Net gas metering for SSTORE (EIP 1283) introduces a new gas cost scheme for the SSTORE opcode.
  • The difficulty bomb delay (EIP 1234) stabilizes block times and issuance by keeping block times at approximately 15 seconds for another 12 months and reducing block rewards to 2 ETH.

To the regular application user, these updates offer nothing noticeably different, except perhaps an update to their Ethereum clients. For developers, these EIPs provide extended capabilities to the EVM, allowing for improved flexibility for smart contract development. All of these changes are backward compatible, ensuring previously deployed smart contracts remain usable and secure.

This hard fork does not address scalability yet. Layer 1 scaling solutions, such as sharding + casper or Shasper, are still in the research phase and will not be addressed before the Serenity milestone which is not expected to be deployed to Ethereum until 2020 or later.

A more tangible change to the Ethereum user experience is the use of Plasma chains and state channels. They are currently in development and some are being tested in experimental production environments. For regular users, this means the first Layer 2 scaling solutions will be available soon, allowing for a higher rate of transactions that are crypto-economically ensured, which is an important step toward faster and cheaper transactions.

Making the Decisions

For a closer look into how the decisions on the accepted proposals were made, the Ethereum Foundation live-streams core developer calls on LivePeer and YouTube after posting a public agenda and call for participation on GitHub prior to the meeting...

How to make image upload easy with Angular "IndyWatch Feed Education"

This is the second part of the tutorial on how to upload an image to Amazon S3. You can find the first part here. In this article, we will take a look at the Angular Part.

You can also watch my step by step video tutorial of an image upload. The link is provided at the bottom of this article.

1. Create a template first

First, we want to create a reusable component that will be easily pluggable into other components.

Lets start with a simple HTML template for our input. Dont forget to apply styles of your choice, or you can get them from my GitHub repo.

Important here is a type of input, which is set to a file. The Accept attribute defines accepted files for input. Image/* specifies that we can choose images of any type by this input. #imageInput is a reference of input on which we can access uploaded files.

A Change event is fired when we select a file. So lets take a look at the class code.

2. Dont forget for Component Code

Lets break down this code. You can see in the processFile that we are getting an image input we sent from the change event. By writing imageInput.files[0] we are accessing the first file. We need a reader in order to access additional properties of a file. By calling readAsDataURL, we can get a base64 representation of an image in the callback function of the addEventListener we subscribed to before.

In a callback function, we are creating an instance of the ImageSnippet. The first value is a base64 representation of an image we will display later on the screen. The second value is a file itself, which we will send to the server for upload to Amazon S3.

Now, we just need to provide this file and send a request through a service.

3. We need a service as well

It wouldnt be an Angular app without a service. The service will be the one responsible for sending a request to our Node server.

Becoming Kathy Acker: An Interview with Olivia Laing "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

Olivia Laing (left) and Kathy Acker

When Olivia Laings second book, The Lonely City, appeared in 2016, she was hailed as one of the leading contemporary non-fiction writers in the US and the UK. After a break up in her mid-thirties, shed moved from London to New York. Adrift in a strange place and afraid of being alone for the rest of her life, she used her loneliness as a conduit to understanding the work of visual artists like David Wojnarowicz, Henry Darger, Zoe Leonard, the reality-media pioneer Josh Harris and many others. Loneliness, for Laing, became a new means of perception, a secret channel. A finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award, The Lonely City was named a best book of the year in various publications. Laing never expected that her next work would be a novel. In fact, she was labouring over a new non-fiction book when Crudo erupted. Triggered by her readings of the American writer Kathy Acker, Crudo was composed over seven weeks. Writing in a bracing and racy picaresque style, Laing adopts the third-person character Kathy that Acker herself often used. The result is a hilarious mash-up between Ackers emotional realism and taste for transgression, and the events of Laings very 21st century life as she vacations in Italy, updates social media and plans her small wedding. The book begins breathlessly, with one of the best openings in recent memory: Kathy, by which I mean I, was getting married. Kathy, by which I mean I, had just got off a plane from New York. Slipping in and out of her Kathy Acker persona, while closely following the events of Laings life and the media-feed of the summer of 2017, Crudo is at once boldly experimental and highly pleasurable. Writing in real time about the flooding of Houston, Brexit, Jared and Ivanka, Trumps tweets and Grenfell, Crudo captures the psychic effect of living in the perpetual state of remote emergency that defines the present: There were several photographs of a care home in which several residents in wheelchairs, elderly black women were up to their chests in dirty brown water. The President was on it, he was using a full arsenal of exclamation marks. As she astutely concludes, Numbness mattered, it was what the Nazis did, made pe...

Nasdaq Crypto Price Tool Launch Shows Mainstream Interest is Increasing "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Reports suggest that one of the planets largest stock exchanges is experimenting with adding information about digital assets to its Analytics Hub. The tools that the Nasdaq are hoping to incorporate will take data from a variety of sources and will be used by investors to make trading decisions.

Mainstream Interest in Cryptocurrency Continues to Intensify

According to reports picked up by International Business Times, the Nasdaq stock exchange is preparing to include cryptocurrency tracking tools in its Analytics Hub. The idea behind the hub is to provide investors and traders with market information to inform their decisions.

It was launched last year and uses machine learning and language processing to scour social media and other sources of information. The Analytics Hub takes into account sentiments expressed on social media and by retail investors, communications from central banks, event-based signals, and technical factors.

It currently only serves a range of traditional assets but the reports referenced in the article suggest that cryptocurrency data will soon come to the platform. The development represents yet more interest from Wall Street in the emerging asset class. Bill Dague, the head of alternative data at the Nasdaq said:

Given the abundance of interest, we are exploring cryptocurrency related datasets Whether or not we launch a crypto-related product remains to be seen.

According to those in the know, the new function being added to the Analytics Hub is currently in the beta testing phase. There are reportedly plans to launch it in November. Interestingly, it will not be limited to just the cryptos with the largest market capitalization. It is believed to cover around 500 digital assets.

The revelation that the Analytics Hub including cryptocurrency data is not the only sign of an increased interest in the digital currency space from Wall Street. In other news this week, Citigroup have announced that they will launch digital assets receipts for the crypto industry. These will function in a similar way that an ETF would, meaning that investors do not need to hold the actual stock or asset represented by the receipt. The bank is currently in the process of making partnerships to take the id...

In the University of Londons Corporate Strategy course, youll learn about corporate strategy, diversification, and divestitures from Bart Vanneste, an Associate Professor at the UCL School of Management and co-author of Corporate Strategy: Tools for Analysis and Decision-Making.

In a world of high complexity and uncertainty, Professor Bart Vanneste explains how the course will give you a structured approach for making good corporate strategy decisions.

Who is this course for?

The course is designed for a broad audience, whether youre dreaming of becoming the next Warren Buffett or simply want to make better, more informed corporate strategy decisions.

Corporate strategy is the strategy a firm uses to compete across multiple businesses, so the course will be especially relevant for those working in multi-business firms, those working in single business firms that want to expand into a new business, those considering a consultancy career, or anyone interested in understanding how a firm competes across multiple businesses.

How should I think about corporate strategy?

My aim is to help you think about corporate strategy in a structured way. Corporate strategy is enormously complex. We tackle this complexity by breaking it down into smaller decisions into something we can manage and then by understanding how these different decisions fit together. Its about giving you the confidence and a roadmap for the next steps to take.

Is there a particular philosophical approach, or is it more a case of arming yourself with the right decision-making tools?

The first point to make is that its decision-based. Its not about theor...

How To Paint Furniture "IndyWatch Feed Diy"

Painting furniture is one of the simplest DIY projects on the planet. However, it is also one of the easiest things to mess up. Trust me, Ive painted more furniture than I care to remember and have learned so much it will make your head spin. Today Im passing all of my wood painting info along to you! Ive teamed up with my longtime partner Sherwin-Williams, who sponsored this post to give you THE BEST furniture painting information available!

How to Paint Furniture | Vintage Revivals

There are a million different sites telling you different (and conflicting!!) info. No one wants to learn to paint furniture the wrong way, or the hard way. So today I am sharing with you my absolute foolproof way to paint furniture. I have hundreds of reader questions at the ready and Im going to answer all of them! (Its a good thing that most of them are the same, see the most common at the bottom of this post!)

Furniture Paint vs. Wall Paint (NOT THE SAME!!)

Paint for some reason has this catch all mentality. How is it that we as humans have 15 different types of moisturizers, but paint is only allowed to have one formula? NO!! Regular latex paint is not designed for hard surfaces that get a lot of usage like a kitchen table.

If youve ever painted something and had the finish turn out tacky like its never cured, or had it peel off in sheets (so satisfying but not when its on your kitchen table) chances are GREAT that you went to the paint counter and told them the sheen and color but nothing was mentioned about the product type or project right?! Do you know how I know this?! Because Ive done ita few times! DANG IT!!!

You know youre using the wrong kind of paint or the wrong technique if:

  • Your furniture feels tacky or sticky like its never cured
  • The paint dents
  • The paint chips or scratches it peels off
  • Its extremely hard to clean and easily stains
  • It fades
  • It doesnt have a smooth finish
  • You want to kick it every time walk past because of all the horrible feelings that come up at the sight of it.

Russian MoD: Filming Of Staged Chemical Attack Has Begun "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

The Russian military is claiming that false flag footage of a staged chemical attack is being handed out to media outlets today. The footage is allegedly meant to serve as proof that the Syrian government has conducted a chemical weapons attack in Idlib, Syria.

According to RT, several Middle East TV channels and a United States news channel have been sent to Jisr al-Shughur in Syrias Idlib Governorate to produce the footage needed for the provocation, a statement by the Russian Center for Syrian Reconciliation said. It added the intelligence came from local residents of Jisr al-Shughur. All the footage of the staged provocation in Jisr al-Shughur is to be delivered to the newsrooms of TV channels, which are to broadcast it after its publication on social media, the statement claimed.

False flags chemical attacks are nothing new, especially where the Syrian civil war is concerned.

Selco: Dealing With Dead Bodies When the SHTF "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

This report was originally published by Selco at The Organic Prepper

There is a saying that death is so close to every and each one of us in every moment, so close that actually, it breathes down back of our neck, and I kinda believe that. Still, we are so unaware of its face, and we are so reluctant to see it, both in philosophical and physical term too. It is in human nature to ignore it, to act almost like it does not exist.

When the SHTF, that attitude can bring you some problems simply because death probably will happen more often around you. You need to prep for it and for the dead bodies that come with it both mentally and physically.

Dealing with dead bodies

I read years ago a comment in some forum that said (paraphrasing) if you find a body and that body belongs to a raider, you just leave it there (in front of your house) and put a note on it that says You are next if you try to break into my home

Then there are comments about composting bodies or getting rid of them by burning and many other methods.

And of course, there are words of advice about how all bodies need to be handled with high respect and so on.

Some comments make sense. But others (just like many comments in survival forums and blogs) are simply comments from people who read about the idea. Or maybe they heard it from a guy who heard it from another guy who was someone who read about it in some fiction book or saw it in a movie.

Obviously, they have not dealt with bodies ever in their life, or at least not during an SHTF scenario.

Lets try to keep it to basic practical advice: what you need to have and what to do with a body.

What do you do with a body?

After you come into a situation where you have a body that you need to deal with there are a few important things for you to think about:

  • Does it belong to a loved one?
  • How dangerous is the situation outside?
  • What is the level of SHTF?

Usually, the answer to these questions will determine your actions. Dealing with a body may range from leaving it outside to rot up to having almost a full funeral service in the closest graveyard.

Lets try to cover some basics.

Is the body da...

Urban EDC: Tools for the Best Urban Every Day Carry Kit "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

For most of us living in a city, daily survival is something we take for granted. An urban EDC kit isn't at the forefront of our thoughts. Just because you live in an urban environment doesnt mean you should be any less prepared than if you live in the country. When SHTF you dont get a warning, you might be away from your home and gear, and your survival could depend on the items you carry with you every day. So do you know exactly the essential EDC items you need in an urban environment?

How to Pack Your Urban EDC Kit the Right Way

Things to Consider

Packing your EDC to prepare for survival situations isn't easy. To get you started, here's a list of important categories to consider when packing:

  • Self Defense
  • Illumination
  • Hydration
  • Utility

Make sure to fill each of these categories when prepping your urban EDC bag. Keep reading to find out why these categories matter and what the best EDC survival items are.

1. Self Defense

Self Defense | Urban EDC: Tools for the Best Urban Every Day Carry KitThe Hoffman-Richter Stinger Tactical Pen Photo by Survival Life

Unlike being isolated in the wilderness, your primary threat in the city is other people. Thats why you should never leave the house without some sort of protection in case you are attacked and forced to defend yourself. The market is saturated with legal and illegal self-defense weapons. I like to play it safe since you never know when you might be searched by law enforcement. For this reason, I prefer a good box cutter.

Box cutters are legal as long as youre not waving them around, and they're perfect for keeping attackers at bay should the situation arise. They also make great utility knives. Being able to replace the blade means its always razor sharp, and you dont need to worry about using it on dirty jobs. I love box cutters and carry one everywhere I go in my urban EDC. I even carry extra blades in my pack in case I need them. Box cutters...

Stellar-Based Lightyear Acquires Chain, Forms New Entity "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Stellar-Based Lightyear Acquires Chain, Forms New Entity

Lightyear Corporation, a universal payments network built around Stellars open financial protocol, has announced the acquisition of Chain, in a merger that sees both brands combine to form a new entity called Interstellar.

Under the terms of the merger, Interstellar will help organizations build applications on the Stellar Network while the Stellar Development Foundation will remain fully independent. Former Chain CEO Adam Ludwin also becomes Interstellar CEO, while Jed McCaleb takes over as Interstellar CTO.

Chain became prominent as a startup that builds enterprise-level blockchain applications for financial organizations such as Visa, Citigroup, Nasdaq and many more. The company had also raised around $40 million from partners including Thrive Capital, Citi and Orange.

The combination of both companies creates a high-level, end-to-end blockchain development solution that will enable organizations to issue, exchange and manage assets on a flexible, scalable and multifunctional public network.

Speaking with Bitcoin Magazine, Interstellar CEO Adam Ludwin said, "At heart, we believe enterprise adoption of blockchain is synonymous with digitizing the assets issued by enterprises, and that is exactly what is being accelerated with this merger."

Ludwin expressed admiration for Stellar and said that he looks forward to engaging with Stellar's technical expertise.

Chain has worked from inside the enterprise, while Stellar has focused on the network between organizations. As a single team, we will have a complete view and set of capabilities to make value-over-IP a reality, he noted in a company statement.

Chain's cloud ledger solution, Sequence, provides a reliable framework for tracking assets as they move between private ledgers and the Stellar network, making Interstellar the ideal choice for enterprises and developers to build innovative products on the Stellar platform.

Chains team has led the market for enterprise adoption of blockchain techno...

New AUSTRAC boss Nicole Rose shocked by 'depth and breadth' of money laundering "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Australia's financial intelligence czar Nicole Rose says she is shocked at the depth of money laundering in the economy involving organised crime, child exploitation and drug importation. "I thought coming from the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission that I had a pretty good handle on serious and organised crime," she [said]. "I didn't appreciate the depth and breadth of involvement with private entities and banks. I didn't appreciate how many industries it does actually touch. There's a misperception that money laundering is a victimless white collar crime. It has a massive impact on everyday life whether that's child exploitation, serious and organised crime or drug importation. It all involves money laundering." A career public servant specialising in anti-terrorism strategy, Ms Rose was appointed chief executive of the Australian Transactions Reports & Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC) in November last year. Ms Rose, a former deputy head of the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission, inherited AUSTRAC's high stakes case against the Commonwealth Bank which is fighting almost 54,000 allegations that it broke anti-money laundering and anti-terrorism financing laws. While not commenting directly on the CBA case, Ms Rose said she was confident that all Australian banks are now aware of the money laundering risk. However, Ms Rose was uncertain when the $10,000 reporting threshold on cash transactions would be extended from financial institutions to other high-risk sectors.

Larry Nassar, former USA Gymnastics doctor, sentenced to 40-175 years for sex crimes "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

After seven days of listening to more than 160 girls, women and parents describe the impact of his sexual abuse, disgraced gymnastics physician Larry Nassar turned to the courtroom Wednesday and quietly attempted an apology, saying, "There are no words that can describe the depth and breadth for how sorry I am for what has occurred." Then Judge Rosemarie Aquilina read from a letter Nassar wrote last week in which he expressed very different sentiments. In the letter, Nassar complained about the length of his sentencing hearing, maintained that his touching of patients was legitimate medical therapy and termed some of the alleged victims' accounts "fabricated." As Aquilina read excerpts, some in the courtroom gasped. "My treatments worked, and those patients that are now speaking out were the same ones that praised me," Aquilina said as she read Nassar's words. "The media convinced them that everything I did was wrong and bad ... Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." The judge then addressed Nassar directly. "It was not treatment what you did; it was not medical," Aquilina replied. Finally, Aquilina delivered her sentence - a minimum of 40 years, a maximum of 175 years in Michigan state prison - effectively guaranteeing a life sentence for the 54-year-old former Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics team physician, who also faces a 60-year sentence for federal child pornography crimes.

The Sound of Things to Come "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Woody Norris aims the silvery plate ... demonstrating something called HyperSonic Sound (HSS). I pace out a hundred yards. Norris pelts me with the Handel. The sound is inside my head. Imagine, he says, walking by a soda machine (say, one of the five million in Japan that will soon employ HSS) ... then hearing what you alone hear -- the plink of ice cubes and the invocation, ''Wouldn't a Coke taste great right about now?'' An HSS transmission can travel 450 feet - at practically the same volume all along its path. In past months, Norris and his staff have made a further, key improvement to HSS -- instead of sending out a column of sound, they can now project a single sphere of it, self-contained, like a bubble. [And] there are Defense Department applications. Norris [has] been busy honing something called High Intensity Directed Acoustics (HIDA). Although [it] has been routinely referred to as a "nonlethal weapon," ... in reality, HIDA is both warning and weapon. If used from a battleship, it can ward off stray crafts at 500 yards with a pinpointed verbal warning. Should the offending vessel continue ... the stern warnings are replaced by 120-decibel sounds that are as physically disabling as shrapnel. Certain noises, projected at the right pitch, can incapacitate even a stone-deaf terrorist; the bones in your head are brutalized by a tone's full effect whether you're clutching the sides of your skull in agony or not. "HIDA can instantaneously cause loss of equilibrium, vomiting, migraines - really, we can pretty much pick our ailment," he says brightly. Last month, [Norris' company] A.T.C. cut a five-year, multimillion-dollar licensing agreement with General Dynamics, one of the giants of the military-industrial complex.

Note: This entire article is well worth reading if you want to understand just how advanced these dangerous weapons are. And there is little doubt that this weapon can cause death. Remember the article was written in 2003. Sound weapons developed for war are now routinely used against civilian populations. Explore an excellent, well researched article going into more detail on these weapons. To Infinity and Beyond, Yayoi Kusama Grapples With Conventions "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Yayoi Kusama next to her Dot Car (1965), from Kusama-Infinity, (photo by Harrie Verstappen, courtesy Magnolia Pictures)

Visiting the Museum of Modern Art in New York, in the late 60s, the Japanese artist, Yayoi Kusama is well-known for having asked, What is modern here? I dont see it. By this time, she had moved to New York, survived a suicide attempt, and crashed the 1966 Venice Biennale where she, uninvited, covered the Italian Pavilion with reflective spheres made of plastic. The installation was called Narcissus Garden and Kusama stood amidst it in a kimono, with her signature bangs and heavily lined eyes, selling each sphere for $2 to passersby. The subversive act of an uninvited Japanese artist selling her art for cheap did not go down with the officials and she was promptly asked to leave. She only had one question, Why cant I sell my art like ice creams or hot dogs?

Heather Lenzs recent documentary, Kusama-Infinity explores Yayoi Kusamas life, art, and her incessant struggle to be seen, to be respected, and to be given her due. It obviously tells the story of her life but also goes beyond the biographical timelines to peek into the real person behind the woman who sits facing the camera in a bright red polka dotted dress with a shock of red hair. It describes the woman behind the activism and the nude protests, which were often dismissed as gimmicks.

Her life is a flurry of emotionally charged moments. As a child, Kusama would draw very fast so that she could finish a piece before her mother snatched it away. When her desire to create art got unmanageable, her mother agreed to send her to art school only if Kusama promised to attend etiquette school a promise she would eventually break. Her father, whose family owned a large seed business in Matsumoto City, would have several affairs and her mother would often send Kusama to spy on him. During World War II, she would sit and sew parachutes for the Japanese troops. From childhood onward, Kusama was forced to do things she did not want to. In 1955, she wrote a letter to Georgia OKeefe admiring her work and asking for guidance. When OKeefe finally replied, Kusama was ready to leave for New York City. She burned around 2000 o...

[promoted] Hashtoro Propels Cryptocurrency Cloud Mining "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Hashtoro Thumb

As an emerging cog in the global digital economy, cloud mining offers a tool for enthusiasts to mine cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin without having to acquire hardware or other oft-required elements. On the heels of this development, growing numbers of companies are offering cloud mining accounts at an affordable cost.

Once established, cloud miners become participants in a mining pool that allows them to purchase certain levels of hash capacity. This gives them a share of profits proportional to the amount of hashing power thats been allotted to them. Since cloud mining is facilitated by the cloud, issues associated with equipment maintenance and energy costs are mitigated. All mining rigs are housed and maintained by a host company, with the user simply needing to register and buy mining contracts or shares.

The Hidden Art Masterpieces in BoJack Horseman "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

A horse in a white speedo swims to the end of a pool, while another horse in a red blazer looks on, the hills of Los Angeles unfurling in smoggy greens and blues in the background.

Thats a David Hockney! you yell at the screen in smug and surprised victory. Albeit its two anthropomorphized horses where Hockney and his former lover once were in the 1972  Portrait of an artist (pool with two figures), but the visual semblance is too strong to ignore.

You find yourself excitedly pointing out Warhols and OKeefes to no one in particular. Is that a Lichtenstein? you wonder out loud.

This is the experience of an art-history nerd watching Bojack Horseman, the critically acclaimed animated comedy series and cult hit on Netflix that brutally satirizes Hollywood, or rather, Hollywoo. The series about to release its fifth season follows the trials and tribulations of the titular character, a fifty-something pill-popping, bottle-hitting actor whose heydey was the schmaltzy 90s sitcom Horsin Around. He seeks to recapture that fame while also navigating his web of equally narcissistic self-destructive friends and frenemies, humans and anthropomorphized animals alike.

And all the while in the background, like a low-grade art fever, the show plants iconic paintings, photography, and sculpture.

Netflix will release the new season September 14, and it is no exception to the previous ones with the likes of Georgia OKeefe, Claude Monet, Thomas Kinkade, Wassily Kandinsky, and many more adding to the rich visual fabric of the show.

Animated and live-action series alike have paid homage to famous artworks before. The Simpsons Did It meme is relevant here. That show has used Edward Hoppers Nighthawks (1942) and Hieronymus Boschs The Garden of Earthly Delights (14901500) to name a few instances, but perhaps no series h...

The Post-9/11 Generation "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

Lights at the 9/11 memorial

Ive been teaching college students for the past decade or so, and every year I pose the same question to my freshmen: Where were you on September 11, 2001? My first year of teaching a freshman writing seminar, the question led to a disarming conversation about how their 8th grade teachers handled the news. Students from Manhattan and Brooklyn had parents whod worked at Cantor Fitzgerald. They recounted with visceral detail how it felt not to know until late that day if their parents were OK. The eternity of waiting.

Five years later, the discussion was different. Now freshmen described a glimpse of memory of a first-grade teacher attempting to figure out how to talk as events unfolded. If pushed they had to admit they didnt know if they remembered watching news footage of the attacks that day, or if their memory was of seeing that footage over and over years later. One student was certain her first grade teacher made a point of not showing them the smoke pouring out of the World Trade Center towers. I was sure I saw it that day, another student said, but now that were talking about it I honestly dont know. When I recounted my own story of watching the events unfold from Brooklyn and then Manhattan that day, as I found myself doing each fall, they listened more intently than past students had. I was recounting a history they didnt wholly remember.

Last year when I asked the question, I found myself a bit in shock at the response. I hadnt prepared myself for the answer. Last years freshmen were not yet a year old on September 11, 2001. They knew of it only as a number, or from reading about it. To them, it was history.

This fall, the students sitting in freshmen classrooms across the country will be more distant still. Many of this falls freshmen will be the first college students whose answer to the question, Where were you on 9/11? will be: I wasnt born yet.

This years freshmen will also include our second class of pos...

Flashback: Odigo says workers were warned of 9/11 attack "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Now that the controlled mainstream media have drummed up a connection between the Fort Hood shooter, Major Nidal Malik Hasan, and a Muslim cleric with links to the alleged 9/11 highjackers, we should stop and recall how the FBI had investigated a company whose workers received warnings of the 9/11 terror attacks, and apparently did nothing about it. Two workers from the instant messaging company Odigo, had received warnings just two hours prior to the attacks. At the time of the attacks, Odigo had offices in both Herzliya and New York , and their New York office was then situated just under a kilometer away from the WTC complex.

Government apologists and 9/11 debunkers like to point out that because the World Trade Center towers were not specifically mentioned in the messages that somehow the Odigo warnings were insignificant when it came to investigating the attacks. Other government gatekeepers, like the Anti-Defamation League, have taken the opportunity to turn the story of the Odigo warnings into the "four thousand Jews didn't show up for work" rumor, and have used it as disinformation in their pathetic propaganda (see Unraveling Anti-Semitic 9/11 Conspiracy Theories).

Although the FBI had been assigned to investigate Odigo over the warnings, the recipients of the messages, their connections to the sender, and how the sender knew of the attacks, remains unknown. It should also be noted that there is no mention of Odigo in the official 9/11 Commission Report.

Artists Urge Us to Get Outside and Smell the Moss "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Mark Tribe, Balsam Lake Mountain Wild Forest, Ulster County, New York from New Nature video (2016-17),
24-hour, single long-take moving picture, 4k digital cinema with ambient sound, screen 42 x 75 inches (courtesy of the artist)

CHADDS FORD, Penn. You could go for a walk in the surrounding woods or take a kayak out along the Brandywine River this is, after all, Wyeth territory (both N.C. and Andrew painted landscapes here). But instead, on a crisp September afternoon, you find yourself drawn inside the 19th-century mill building that houses the Brandywine River Museum of Art in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, to see Natural Wonders: The Sublime in Contemporary Art.

A video projection focused on a single woodland scene for 24 hours shows undulating patterns of light formed by shadows of the trees. A leaf meanders its way to the ground; an insect buzzes by. A small pool of water shimmers and trickles, but not much else happens.

Lauren Fensterstock, installation view of Grotto-Stalagmites, shells, resin, rubber; Grotto 2 (Stalactite), shells and mixed media; Grotto 3 (stalactite), shells and mixed media (all 2015) (courtesy of the artist and Claire Oliver Gallery)

When we come upon a scene like this in nature, we might stop for a photo, perhaps force ourselves to meditate for a moment, searching for peace and a spiritual connection, before quickly moving on. Mark Tribes Balsam Lake Mountain Wild Forest, Ulster County, New York, from the series New Nature (201617), allows us to linger more than we might in the wild, where fellow hikers, inclement weather, or mosquitoes compel us to be on our way. It allows us to enjoy the scene.

According to a wall text accompanying this piece, we are more likely to experience nature on a digital screen than in an immersive setting. In an age of virtual reality and inescapable human impact, is nature as real as it used to be? asks Tribe. And how could we use technologies of simulation (including relatively straightforward ones, like video) to preserve the experience of a vanishing wilderness? By providing a voyeuristic view, the artist awakens us to a primal urge to get outside, to smell the moss, to feel the ferns and...

Bruce Lee Has A Powerful Message For Everyone About The Art Of Fighting "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemys resistance without fighting. Sun Tzu

It is useless to fight against peoples rigid ways, or to argue against their irrational concepts. You will only waste time and make yourself rigid in the process. The best strategy is to simply accept rigidity in others, outwardly displaying deference to their need for order. On your own, however, you must work to maintain your open spirit, letting go of bad habits and deliberately cultivating new ideas. Robert Greene

Imagine you are back in high school and a bully starts making fun of you in front of everyone. What do you do? Poke fun back? Cry? Run? Punch him in the face? What? The answer is none of the above.

The best way to deal with a bully who is making fun of you is to make fun of yourself better than the bully did. The worst way to deal with a bully is to retaliate. This is because retaliation perpetuates the bullys agenda and leads to violence, whereas making fun of yourself uses self-deprecating humor to derail the bullys agenda while forcing the bully into a confused psychosocial dilemma. Its a power-play, and its all psychological. The bully expects you to poke fun back at him, or cry, or run, or throw a punch; anything but you making fun of yourself. And if you can do it better than the bully did, then bully for you. Pun intended.

Like Carlos Castaneda said:

Feeling important makes one heavy, clumsy and vain. To be a warrior one needs to be light and fluid Self-importance is mans greatest enemy. What weakens him is feeling offended by the deeds and misdeeds of his fellow men. Self-importance requires that one spend most of ones life offended by something or someone The average man is hooked to his fellow men, while the warrior is hooked only to infinity.

Lets shed the heaviness of self-importance and don the lightness of humor instead. Lets feel offended but then let it go, like a sponge absorbs water and then squeezes it out. The key is not to linger with the pettiness of the offense but to transcend the offense through a humor of the...

Chinese Crypto Startup to Offer Custody Service Amid Regulatory Turmoil "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Long story short, Chinas leading regulatory bodies have recently begun their second crusade against the propagation of crypto assets, imposing a series of harsh rules, laws and advisory messages in a bid to curb the growth of this industry. In spite of the heavy-handed regulatory moves, a Chinese cryptocurrency startup still intends to establish a secure custody service.

InVault To Launch Crypto Custody Following $5.85M Seed Funding Round

As divulged by a recent report from the South China Morning Post (SCMP), InVault, an up and coming Shanghai-based startup, will be launching a crypto asset custody product that will be targeted at Asian crypto exchanges.  CEO and founder Kenneth Xu spoke with the SCMP on the need for exchange-focused custodial products, stating:

Today, the vast majority of cryptocurrency exchanges globally still involve their senior management in managing the transfer of digital tokens ordered by clients. Putting the private keys to your cryptocurrency assets in the hands of senior management is akin to putting all your money in their control.

What Xu is alluding to is the risk in allocating your crypto holdings to a centralized exchange-owned wallet, which may be vulnerable to security breaches as seen with the recent hacking of both Bithumb and CoinCheck. As Xu later added, exchanges might see immense value in InVaults service, as these platforms should be primarily focused on facilitating the purchase and sale of crypto assets, rather than the tedious processes required to safely store cryptocurrencies.

The startups CEO also noted that in traditional capital markets, securities are always held in the hands of a central depository, not an exchange, so it makes sense that the cryptocurrency industry should act in a similar manner.

And it seems that InVaults unique take on the custody model has already attracted a prospective client, with the firm executive revealing that an exchange has already submitted an order for the storage of one million Ether ($200 million USD).

However, some fear that regulatory concerns will put the newly-established startup out of business. Governmental bodies in Beijing have enlisted a series of measures to stamp out crypto, which include the...

Forgotten History: The Americans Take Blanc Mont Ridge, October 1918 "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

The following video is brought to you courtesy of the Forgotten Weapons YouTube Channel. Click the video below to watch it now.

Cool Forgotten Weapons merch!

The German army captured Blanc Mont Ridge in the early months of World War One and occupied it throughout the years of fighting, fending off repeated French assaults throughout 1915 and 1916. While the ridge looks far from imposing, it is a piece of high ground which overlooks a large part of the front in the Champagne region of France, and was a very valuable outlook for artillery observation. Its continuous occupation allowed it to be heavily fortified by the Germans as a major strong point in their defensive lines.

In October of 1918, the task would fall to the American Expeditionary Force to take the ridge as part of the ongoing offensive that was finally pushing the Germans back all along the front lines. Years of war had gradually sapped the strength of the German forces, and the last gasp spring offensive earlier in the year had destroyed the last remaining units of elite German troops. And yet, the still had their fortifications here, armed with more than 350 machine guns on this ridge alone.

On the morning of October 3rd, 1918, a combined force of US Army and Marines (the 2nd and 36th Infantry Divisions) set off on an attack up the gradual slope towards the ridge. The attack was preceded by only a few minutes of artillery fire and then a creeping barrage behind which the men advanced. A thick layer of ground fog was perhaps their best ally, as they began the assault of the German position. A fierce fight left the positions on the front of the ridge in American hands by the end of the day, although the fighting would be tenacious for several days, as the Americans advanced well beyond the supporting French units on their flanks, and were left exposed on the reverse slope of the ridge.

By October 7th, the ridge position was consolidated, and the French and American forces continued their advance towards the next objective, the town of Saint-tienne--Arnes. American casualties in the assault would come to approximately 7,800 men this was not a position relinquished easily by the Germans. The battle was considered a major accomplishment at the time, although it ha...

5 Movies that Sum Up the International and Experimental Documentaries of Icarus Films "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

From A Grin Without a Cat (courtesy Icarus Films)

This year, the distribution company Icarus Films turns 40 years old. Over its lifespan, Icarus has been one of the champions of international documentary cinema in the US, bringing to theaters and home video countless films that may have otherwise gone completely overlooked. The companys catalogue is filled with works whose experimental style, radical politics, or provenance in foreign countries would have had them written off as noncommercial by most other distributors. Before the internet opened up the accessibility of world cinema, Icarus was a vital outlet, and even deep into the online age it continues to spotlight great documentaries which may otherwise go overlooked.

To mark Icarus Filmss ruby jubilee, the Metrograph in New York City has put together a massive retrospective. Icarus Films at 40, running from September 14 to September 30, will screen over 50 movies from throughout the distributors history. The staggering breadth of this series allows it not just to chronicle the lifetime of one film company, but also the last four decades of social upheaval, evolving documentary aesthetics, and changes in left-wing film thought. There are multiple legendary directors represented, including Shohei Imamura, Jean Rouch, Peter Watkins, Marcel Ophls, Alain Resnais, John Akomfrah, and Jean-Luc Godard. It includes works weve previously covered here at Hyperallergic, such as Wang Bings Bitter Money (2016), about textile workers in China, and Nikolaus Geyrhalters Our Daily Bread (2005), about various processes of food production across the world. Every film in the program is noteworthy in some way, but here are a few representative standouts.

Ethereum Downtrend Might Not be Over Yet, Actual ICO Sell Off Expected "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Over the past few months, investors of ETH, the native cryptocurrency of the ever so popular Ethereum project, have had to fight off bears at every turn, as the asset has been battered by negative news and wavering sentiment on a daily basis. Although significant progress is being made for the project, ETH has recently plunged to establish a new year-to-date low under $200.

ICOs Have Spent $30M Of ETH This Week, Still $600M To Be Spent

As with any trending topic, the demise of ETH has been a topic of thorough discussion with cryptocurrency analysts, investors, and leaders alike, even in the furthest edges of the crypto industry. Everyone and their dog had something to say about Ethereums violent decline, with many taking to social media platforms to express their two cents on the matter. While there was a large presence of contrasting, emotion-based opinions, there were a few gems that brought logic and reason to the decline in the price of Ether.

One of those notable gems was an insightful tidbit of data from cryptocurrency researcher Kevin Rooke, whose work NewsBTC covered just recently. On Monday, Rooke continued to show his analysis prowess via a tweet, alluding to the relationship between Ethereums price and ICOs, with this relationship being touted as a primary reason why ETH has tanked as of late.

As per data from Santiment, a leading crypto analytics provider, compiled by the researcher, ICOs have spen...
