Why I Build These End Tables

It's always nice to have a nearby tabletop surface to set a coffee cup on or a remote.  I've been loving the trend of more modern, chunky shapes, especially the extruded X shape.

These little end tables turned out so well and cost between $15-$20 to build! I love the rustic wood tones with the modern shape.

How to Build These End Tables

This is a free project plan.  Please take a second to watch the video tutorial on how to build them - there's a few tricks that make all the difference with these end table builds.

Consciously Creating Our Reality Hosted by Gerry Gomez

If you are the artist and the dreamer, what would you create from you pallet of choices? Will it be dark and soothing, bright, and energetic or something whimsical and fun? The 5th dimension is that club of expanded consciousness where you vibrate at 500 and above, where you exist in a state of love, Joy, peace, and enlightenment.  This is when you realize that you are connected to the universe, the Source of Creation and all things.  Thats a huge pallet to draw from, so what will you create? What we are finding as we rise, and are less triggered into backsliding, is that the world becomes quite magical.  We experience many synchronicities, and information flows to you, and from you.  Spontaneous healings can occur and other seemingly miraculous events. When we stop fighting the current and go with the flow, we experience less turbulence in our day-to-day activities.  Here are some thoughts for smooth sailing during these historic turbulent days:
  • Its always darkest before the dawn.
  • Things generally seem worse than they are.
  • Media enjoys scaring the pants of people to keep everyone confused and unable to think.
  • The universe love balance and abhors a vacuum.
When things get stretched too far out of balance, as they have been since about 2001, the universe tends to snap things back to a more neutral position, and sometimes in unanticipated ways.  Is not the political arena becoming a comical farse? What we are seeing in the news (if you bot...

Clever Illustrations by Nash Weerasekera Highlight Ironies and Anxieties of Everyday Life "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

An illustration of a figure painting a silver lining on a cloud

All images Nash Weerasekera, shared with permission

Influenced by what he describes as a healthy level of cynicism, Melbourne-based artist Nash Weerasekera taps into the subtle ironies of everyday life. His digital illustrations often center on seemingly paradoxical circumstances like a figure meditating on top of an overturned car or a young girl in a bathing suit seated on an ice floe. Largely focused on the nature of work, social interactions, and domestic responsibilities, his humorous scenes visualize endless to-do lists, running out of time, or a satirical take on a favorite phrase of optimists everywhere: every cloud has a silver lining.

Weerasekera shares that he thinks better on paper, so every piece begins with a physical sketch. His illustration practice stems from a background in street art in his home country of Sri Lanka that blossomed into acrylic painting when he moved to Australia. During pandemic lockdowns when it was a challenge to gather materials, he began to experiment with digital techniques and increasingly collaborates with commercial clients.

Weerasekera is currently illustrating a childrens book, and you can find more of his work on Instagram.

Seeking Freedom, Bitcoiners Should Consider Second Passports "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Those who hold bitcoin recognize the importance of taking control of their own freedom. A second passport might be the next step.

This is an opinion editorial by Jessica Hodlr, the COO of Plan B Passport.

The rise of Bitcoin and the demand for second passports may seem like two unrelated phenomena, however, there is one common link that ties them together: the desire for control.

Bitcoin and second passports have gained popularity in recent years due to a growing distrust in government and an emerging prepper mentality among many individuals. Both offer a way to take control back and to protect oneself from the uncertainties of the world.

Distrust In Government

Bitcoins decentralized nature means that it operates independently of any government, individual or financial institution. This has attracted so many people who are skeptical of the traditional financial system and the government control over money that weve all experienced and witnessed.

Like interest in Bitcoin, the demand for second passports has been driven by a lack of trust in governments. Many people fear political instability, economic downturns or other events that could threaten their safety and freedom. A second passport can offer an escape route to a country with more favorable conditions.

Prepper Mentality

If you havent heard of the prepper mentality, it is characterized by a focus on self-sufficiency and preparedness for emergencies. People who adopt this mindset often stockpile supplies and develop skills that they believe will be useful in a crisis. Bitcoin and second passports are both tools that can be used to prepare for the worst and to hedge against any risks.

Bitcoin's decentralized nature makes it resistant to government interference, which would be useful in a scenario where traditional financial systems have collapsed. In such a situation, bitcoin could serve as a means of exchange, even if fiat currencies are no longer functioning. Similarly, a second passport could offer a means of escape to a safer location in the event of a crisis. By having a second citizenship, individuals may be able to travel to more stable countries or access resources that are unavailable to those with only one passport.

Giving Control Back To The Individual

As stated above, perhaps the most significant link between Bitcoin and second passports is the desire for control. Both offer individuals greater control over their lives and their assets. Bitcoin allows users to control their money without relying on any bank or financial institution. A second passport gives in...

Amlie Was Really a KGB Spy: Jean-Pierre Jeunet Re-Edits His Beloved Film, Amlie, into a New Comedic Short "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

No French film of this century is more beloved than Jean-Pierre Jeunets Amlie. Or rather, no protagonist of a French film in this century is more beloved than Audrey Tautous eponymous Amlie. Now, more than twenty years after the release of Le fabuleux destin dAmlie Poulain, Jeunet has followed it up with La vritable histoire dAmlie Poulain, which you can watch (with optional French or English subtitles) just above.

After all this time, Jeunet says in a brief introduction, I felt the moment was right to tell you, at long last, the real story of Amlie Poulain. She turns out, according to his voice-over narration that follows, not to be a simple Montmartre waitress who dedicates herself to surreptitiously enriching the lives of those around her.

CHARM FOR A CHILD

Child, for your slumbers sake
On my back Ill gladly take
All your worry, all your dread
Lay down your head.

I shall guard you till the dawn
With streaks of gold comes softly on;
Place all your tender trust in me,
And you shall be

Safe from bite of iron sword,
Safe from cruel and wounding word,
Safe from ghoul and darkling sprite
In depth of night.

Though the land succumb to sea
And the stars devoured be,
There is nothing can remove
A fathers love.

Now in white the moon is dressed:
Close your eyes and take your rest
Ready, with the morning dew,
To rise anew.

Man Asks if Hes Wrong for Asking for a Morning off From His Baby on the Weekends "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Fact: kids are a handful and if you have them, your life is going to change in many ways.

And this guy who has a six-month-old baby at home wants to know if hes being an a**hole for the request he made of his wife

Take a look at what he had to say and let us know what you think in the comments.

AITA for asking for a morning off from my baby on the weekends?

My wife and I have a six month old baby girl. Shes mostly a SAHM, she works two half days a week and her sister watches the baby. I work full time and go to school one day a week.

Weve always had an arrangement where she takes care of the household duties (cooking, cleaning, and now baby care) while I happily support her monetarily. Honestly, we are both living our dream life and my wife does an absolutely spectacular job taking care of me and our little one.

On the weekends, we share baby duty. We usually make sure each of us gets our own alone time to do whatever we want. However, our girl has hit a bit of a sleep regression, waking up every two hourssince my wife breast feeds, shes always taken care of the baby full time overnight. Shes a light sleeper and unfortunately has insomnia, whereas I am a deep sleeper and wouldnt wake up for baby cries anyways .

Recently my wife has been asking me to wake up with the baby both days on the weekends so she can get an extra hour of sleep. Baby wakes up around 7am. I get the baby dressed and take over for that hour.

But sometimes, I want to be the one that gets to sleep in an extra hour. I brought this up to her and she says while shes happy to let me nap during the day, she really needs that hour bc she cant nap like I can....

  • Saudi Arabia Imposes Controversial Restrictions on Ramadan

https://www.atheistrepublic.com/news/saudi-arabia-imposes-controversial-restrictions-ramadan

Location: Saudi Arabia

On March 3rd, the Minister of Islamic Affairs of Saudi Arabia, Abdul Latif Al-Sheikh, published and shared a document containing regulations for the Islamic holy month of Ramadan that everyone in the Kingdom must follow. According to the announcement, the use of loudspeakers and the broadcast of prayers will be restricted during this period. Additionally, individuals will only be allowed to participate in i'tikaf, or spiritual seclusion, if they provide proper identification. Furthermore, the prayers will be required to be kept short and timely, and the mosques are also not allowed to collect donations for organizing iftar (meals to break the fast). It has also been stated that children will not be allowed to attend prayers in mosques, and iftar meals will not be permitted inside mosques. Many Muslims worldwide criticized the new rulings, claiming that under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Saudi Arabian government further attempted to limit the influence of Islam in public life, and even compared it to Tunisia under the rule of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali and the former Soviet Union.

6 Consequences Of People Pleasing "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

As humans, we all have a natural desire to be liked and accepted by others. While theres nothing inherently wrong with wanting to please others, it becomes problematic when it comes at the cost of our own well-being and happiness.

Personally, I have seen people in my life who are chronic people pleasers, always putting others needs and wants before their own. While they may be initially praised for their accommodating nature, it often leads to feelings of resentment and burnout. They end up feeling drained and stressed from the constant effort of trying to meet everyones expectations.

At the same time, people pleasing can also create a vicious cycle where others come to expect a certain level of accommodation from the people pleaser, leading to even more pressure to please. It can be hard to break out of this cycle, but its important to recognize the negative impact that people pleasing can have on our mental and emotional health.

In my opinion, its crucial to find a healthy balance between valuing relationships with others and taking care of our own needs and desires. This can involve setting boundaries, learning to say no when necessary, and focusing on personal growth and development. By prioritizing our own well-being, we can ultimately lead more fulfilling and authentic lives.

People pleasing is a common behavior where individuals go out of their way to please others, often at the expense of their own needs and desires. While it may seem like a positive trait to always put others first, there are several consequences of people pleasing that can have a negative impact on ones life. Here are 6 consequences of people pleasing:

Loss of Self-Identity

People pleasers often prioritize other peoples needs and opinions over their own, leading to a loss of self-identity. They may find themselves constantly changing their behaviors, preferences, and even their values to fit in with others. Over time, this can lead to a feeling of emptiness or a lack of purpose in life.

Burnout and Stress

People pleasing requires a lot of emotional labor, as individuals may feel the need to constantly monitor and adjust their behavior to meet the expectations of others. This can lead to burnout and stress, as people pleasers may find themselves exhausted and overwhelmed from always putting others first.

Difficulty with Decision-Making

People pleasers often struggle with making decisions, as they may be more focused on what others want or expect from them rather than what they truly want for themselves. This can lead to a lack of confidence and indecisiveness.

Resentment and Bitterness

People pleasers may feel resentful or bitter towards others when their efforts to please are not appreciated or reciprocated. They may feel used or taken advantage of, leading to a negative impact on their relationships and self-estee...

The Top 5 Mistakes Every Parent Makes (And How to Avoid Them) "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Parenting is one of the most rewarding and challenging roles that anyone can take on. While every parent wants to do their best for their children, its inevitable that mistakes will be made along the way. Here are the top 5 mistakes that every parent makes, and some tips on how to avoid them:

Overprotecting Your Child

Its natural for parents to want to keep their children safe, but overprotecting them can lead to a lack of independence and self-confidence. Children need to be able to take risks and learn from their mistakes in order to develop resilience and problem-solving skills. To avoid this mistake, try to strike a balance between keeping your child safe and allowing them to explore and take risks in a safe and controlled environment.

Comparing Your Child to Others

Every child is unique, and comparing your child to others can be damaging to their self-esteem and confidence. Children need to be accepted for who they are, not compared to others. To avoid this mistake, focus on your childs strengths and encourage them to develop their own talents and interests, rather than trying to mold them into someone elses idea of success.

Not Setting Clear Boundaries

Children need structure and routine in order to feel secure and develop a sense of responsibility. Without clear boundaries, children may feel lost or confused, leading to behavioral problems or a lack of discipline. To avoid this mistake, set clear expectations and consequences for behavior, and be consistent in enforcing them.

Using Punishment Instead of Discipline

Discipline is about teaching children right from wrong, while punishment is about making them suffer for their mistakes. Punishment can be damaging to a childs self-esteem and can lead to a lack of trust between parent and child. To avoid this mistake, focus on positive reinforcement and praise for good behavior, and use discipline as a way to teach your child how to make better choices.

Not Taking Care of Yourself

Its easy to get so caught up in the demands of parenting that you forget to take care of yourself. However, neglecting your own needs can lead to burnout, resentment, and a lack of patience with your children. To avoid this mistake, make sure to take time for yourself each day, whether its exercising, reading, or just taking a few minutes to relax and recharge.

In conclusion, parenting is a learning experience, and its important to recognize that mistakes will be made along the way. However, by being aware of these common mistakes and taking steps to avoid them, parents can create a more positive and fulfilling parenting experience for themselves and their children. Remember, parenting is a journey, not a destination, and every day is an opportunity to learn and grow as a parent.

10 Long-Term Effects Of Toxic Parenting On Children "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Toxic parenting can have a significant impact on children, with many long-term effects that can persist into adulthood. One of the most common effects of toxic parenting is low self-esteem. Children who grow up with toxic parents may struggle to feel worthy or valued, leading to feelings of inadequacy that can persist into adulthood. This can have far-reaching consequences, from difficulties forming healthy relationships to a lack of confidence in ones own abilities.

Another common effect of toxic parenting is anxiety and depression. Children who have experienced emotional or physical abuse, neglect, or other forms of toxic parenting may suffer from anxiety and depression later in life. This can be due to the trauma they experienced in childhood, as well as the ongoing stress of dealing with toxic parents.

Children of toxic parents may also struggle with trust issues. This can include difficulty trusting others in general, as well as difficulty trusting authority figures or others in positions of power. This can have a range of consequences, from difficulty forming healthy relationships to difficulty seeking help when needed.

Toxic parenting can also lead to difficulty with emotional regulation. Children who have experienced emotional abuse or neglect may struggle to manage their emotions in healthy ways, leading to difficulty with stress, anxiety, and other negative emotions later in life. This can also lead to difficulty with coping mechanisms, leading to substance abuse and other negative behaviors.

Overall, the long-term effects of toxic parenting can be severe and long-lasting. However, its important to remember that healing is possible with the right support. Seeking therapy or other mental health support can be an important step in overcoming the effects of toxic parenting and building a fulfilling, healthy life.

The long-term effects of toxic parenting on children can be severe and long-lasting. Here are some common outcomes that adult children of toxic parents may experience:

Low self-esteem

Children who grow up with toxic parents may struggle with feelings of worthlessness and inadequacy, which can lead to low self-esteem as adults.

Anxiety and depression

Toxic parenting can cause significant psychological trauma, which can lead to anxiety and depression in adulthood.

Trust issues

Children who have experienced toxic parenting may struggle to trust others, particularly authority figures, due to their experiences.

Difficulty with relationships

Toxic parenting can interfere with a childs ability to form healthy relationships as adults, leading to problems with intimacy and trust.

Perfectionism

Children of toxic parents may develop a need for perfectionism as a way to gain approval and validation from others.

5 Signs Of Gaslighting In A Parent-Child Relationship "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Gaslighting is a form of emotional abuse that involves manipulating someone into doubting their own perceptions, memories, and sanity. It can be particularly damaging in parent-child relationships because children are more vulnerable to manipulation and may be dependent on their parents for emotional and physical support.

Gaslighting in parent-child relationships can take many forms. For example, a parent may deny that certain events occurred, such as a past instance of abuse or neglect. They may also twist the childs words or actions to make them seem unreasonable or crazy. Additionally, they may use their position of authority to control and intimidate the child, using threats or guilt to get their way.

Over time, gaslighting can have serious psychological effects on the child, including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and a distorted sense of reality. Children who have experienced gaslighting may struggle with trust and may have difficulty forming healthy relationships in the future.

Its important to recognize the signs of gaslighting in parent-child relationships and to take action to protect the child. This may involve seeking support from a therapist or other mental health professional, setting clear boundaries with the parent, or even cutting off contact if necessary. Remember that gaslighting is a form of abuse, and no one deserves to be treated this way, especially not by a parent.

  1. Denial of Reality: A gaslighting parent may deny or minimize events that the child knows to be true. For example, they might deny that an argument happened, even though the child clearly remembers it. They might also deny their own behavior or blame the child for it.
  2. Twisting the Truth: A gaslighting parent may twist the childs words or actions to make them seem unreasonable or crazy. For example, they might say that the child is being too sensitive or overreacting to something that was hurtful or abusive.
  3. Constant Criticism: A gaslighting parent may constantly criticize the child and make them feel like they cant do anything right. They might belittle the childs accomplishmen...

Art Problems: How Do I Get a Public Art Commission? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Id love to be working on public and private art commissions, but I have no idea how to enter this world. Can you offer any advice? lost but hopeful

The simple answer to the question of how you can secure art commissions is to apply for them. Or meet a rich person or interior designer. Or meet an artist who might let you apprentice. Or screw the system altogether and take over the side of an abandoned building or bus stop.

The truth is there are so many ways to get commissions, yet so few shared resources about how to secure them, that many artists never venture into the field. Moreover, many artists assume that the work they make will not translate well in a different medium, thus cutting themselves off from opportunities that might otherwise be available to them.

To answer your question, I decided to get advice from the horses mouth the facilitators, commissioners, and artists making public art.

There are all kinds of opportunities out there, Sally Kraus, director of Member Services at CODAworx, told me, adding, I think its a growing industry. Kraus describes CODAworx as a little li...

An Ancient Satellite Orbits Earth-The Black Knight "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Image result for Donald Keyhoe

In the mid 1950s predating the launch of the Russian Sputnik satellite another orbiting object was detected. Prior to 1957 there should have been no such artificial satellite. Yet, astronomers, eye witness accounts, and pilots reported that an unknown object seemed to be in an orbit that was difficult to track. Ufologist, Donald Keyhoe, was the first journalistic source to make mention of it. The former US Marine Aviator and assistant to Charles Lindbergh had built up a following having authored some of the most widely read articles in history, all about flying saucers. In 1954, Donald Keyhoes article was quoted by a newspaper as there being one and maybe two unidentified artificial satellites orbiting earth from unknown origins.

Eyes to the sky

In 1960 major defense contractors realized along with the US military that an unidentified orbital object was being observed, but that it must have an irregular orbit.  This alert was also happening during the same time as Frank Drakes radio astronomy Project Ozma, the first incarnation of SETI, a more ambitious and better funded search for extraterrestrial life with large arrays of radio telescopes probing the universe for intelligent signals from elsewhere. In the book entitled Aliens in Space by Donald Keyhoe, one of the original Mercury program astronauts made visual contact with an unidentified satellite that reportedly had mechanical arms during the two manned Gemini mission while in space. Was this the same mystery satellite? At that time in the 1960s there were no manmade orbital satellites with mechanical arms.

Amazing observation

In 1998 the US space shuttle Endeavour crew spotted an orbiting object appearing to be a black satellite of bizarre configuration that was photographed. Due to its dark coloration and the background of space detail in the photos was indistinct but lent credence the theory that a monitoring or surveillance satellite would be painted or coated with a dark pigment to make discovery difficult. With better photos now being taken, it appears that the shape or design defy what the typical geometry of a human built satellite would consist of.

Minnesota Governor Signs Law To Provide Free School Meals to All Its Students "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Minnesota Governor Signs Law To Provide Free School Meals to All Its Students

It's estimated that nearly 9 million American children live in homes where three meals a day are not guaranteed. Hunger can make it difficult to learn, and food insecurity is an important problem that several states are tackling. This includes Minnesota, where Governor Tim Walz was surrounded by kids who cheered as he signed a bill that guarantees free meals for every student in the state. The new universal free meal law means that Minnesota will join Colorado, California, and Maine in providing complimentary breakfast and lunch to all students regardless of income.

Now in his second term, Gov. Walz has pledged to put an end to child poverty in the state. Signing the bipartisan bill puts him one step closer to that goal. Its a historic, bipartisan win that means no kid will go hungry at schooland that Minnesota is one step closer to being the best state in the county [sic] to grow up, he tweeted after signing the bill into law.

The law ensures that every student, K-12, in Minnesota will be provided with free breakfast and lunch. The change will go into effect in September, at the start of the next academic year. While most of Minnesota's schools receive federal funds from National School Lunch Program, it's not enough to cover the cost of a student's entire meal. The new law will make up the difference, and schools will no longer be able to charge students. All told, this will cost the state about $200 million per year.

Gov. Walz, who is a retired educator, has seen firsthand the impact that food insecurity has on students and their ability to learn. And for him, it was important to do something about it. While the bill was widely supported, there was some notable criticism. Republican state Sen. Steve Drazkowski angered many with his...

Scientists Create the First Full Brain Map of a Fly "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Many of us only think about fruit flies when the air above a neglected bunch of bananas becomes suddenly thick with activity, but a team of researchers at Johns Hopkins and Cambridge University have been thinking about them an awful lot and have also been demonstrating exactly how they, the flies, think about everything. In an unprecedented feat of science, the team has successfully created a synapse-by-synapse map of the brain of a larval fruit fly (Drosophila).

Prior to this achievement, only some portions of insect brains had been reconstructed, researcher Marta Zlatic of the University of Cambridges Department of Zoology and MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology told Hyperallergic.

Now, for the first time we have the comprehensive view of the circuit motifs in an entire larval insect brain as well as interactions between the two brain hemispheres and between the brain and nerve cord, Zlatic said. The brain of the fruit fly is smaller than a poppy seed, and the new map shows all 3,016 neurons and 548,...

The Preservation of Historic Buildings in Colorado "IndyWatch Feed Diy"

Preservationists are in a constant race against time to save historic places at risk of being lost not just to the wrecking ball, but also to neglect and the elements. Each year, Colorados Most Endangered Places, a program of Colorado Preservation, Inc., adds new sites to the list.

History is not just museums, says Katie Peterson, director of Colorados Most Endangered Places. Its living, you know, just driving by all of the places that my great-great grandparents or my great-great-great-grandparents did. Feeling and reliving your ancestors past is truly what history is about.

Colorados Most Endangered Places works with communities and partners to raise both awareness and money to try to save sites at risk of being lost. In the past 25 years, its highlighted 135 historical sites in Colorado. Fifty-five were saved and eight were lost.

Junita Martinez lives in the town of San Francisco, Colorado in the San Luis Valley. She is working to save a small one-room adobe structure called the Feminilas Building which was spearheaded by the womens auxiliary in the 1920s. The building has gone into disrepair, disarray. Its because I dont think people understood the significance of it even though it was the communitys aunties and grandmas and mothers that belonged to it, said Martinez. It brings our community together and we can actually see a building thats part of the roots of our community, part of the heart of our community, which I like.

The one-room adobe building is at risk of collapsing due to the elements. Colorado Preservation, Inc. says the building preserves the unique traditions, language, and culture of the San Luis Valley and the contributions of Hispanic women.

In Time Magazine article published during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, scientist Elizabeth Fischer describes viruses and their aptness for destruction. She refers to their beautiful symmetry, adding, theyre not malicious in and of themselves. Theyre just doing what they do. This straightforward statement contrasts much public sentiment centered on the overwhelming fear and grief and is the basis for a new body of work by Jakarta-based artist Agnes Hansella (previously).

Recently on view alongside pieces by Mulyana (previously) at NA Arthouse, Hansellas macram installation and sculptures magnify the tiny world of microorganisms through fiber. 10 Genius Parenting Hacks For Raising An Empathetic Child "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

We live in a world where empathy is more important than ever. Empathy is important because it is our ability to put ourselves in someone elses shoes and understand things from their vantage point.

While empathy is a complex skill to develop, it is not a difficult thing to teach a child, if you start early and you act intentionally. Every moment you have with your child is an opportunity to teach them how to live more empathetically and harness compassion from within. Here are 10 genius parenting hacks for raising an empathetic child.

1. Model it.

The number one tip for teaching your child empathy is to model it, not only toward others, but especially toward your children. At the end of the day, the way you act and interact with your children will be the number one factor in how they turn out. Why? Because kids pay attention to how we act and interact with the world around us.

2. Help them practice reading emotions.

Practice makes perfect. One helpful way to teach empathy is to practice helping your child read emotions. For example, if you see a child that dropped their ice cream cone at the park, and they are crying, ask your child how they think that child is feeling.

3. Label emotions to expand their emotional vocabulary.

Throughout your childs life, you should be labeling emotions that you observe, to help them build their emotional vocabulary. If you see someone who is angry, point that out. If you see someone who is the sad and upset, point that out.

4. Point out acts of kindness.

Its important to make a big deal about the right things. So, whenever you see someone doing something kind or compassionate, do not miss the opportunity to teach your child about compassion.

5. Read stories about feelings.

Use reading time as a teaching time to teach about feelings. Some great books for this are My Many Colored Days, by Dr. Seuss, How Are You Peeling by Saxton Freymann, and Feelings by Aliki.

6. Use I messages.

I phrases are especially helpful because they teach self-awareness. I dont like it when you yell at me, it hurts my feelings.

7. Validate your childs difficult emotions.

When your child comes to you with difficult emotions, do not turn them away. Dont tell them to stop crying, Dont tell them that they are fine. Instead, listen to them, validate their emotions, and help them understand what they are going through.

8. Use pretend play.

Pretend play is perfect for teaching toddlers empathy. An example of this is saying that your stuffed bear doesnt want to take turns with his friend, the stuffed puppy. Now, ask your child, how do you think the stuffed puppy feels.

9. Think through the use of Im sorry.

A lot of times, we use the phrase Im sorry,&#822...

6 Mistakes You Will Regret In 10 Years "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Our lives will pass us by before we realize it, and in the blink of an eye, the weight of our choices can come crashing down on us. We all make bad choices, and we all make mistakes, however, some of our mistakes can follow us around forever.

There have been many times in my life when I was making a big decision where I had to pause and take a step back and ask myself, Am I making a big mistake? Of course, I think we all have these moments. Looking back, I know my choices werent always the greatest. The impact of our choices and decisions, even small ones, can be massive. Unfortunately, we dont always realize this until later on. (Hindsight is 20/20.)

Below, I will go over 6 mistakes you will regret in 10 years.

1. Never leave your comfort zone.

Its easy to get caught up in a moment and to want to take it easy. However, its also easy to get stuck in this mode and never feel able to reach beyond that. In some cases, the thought of reaching out of your comfort zone may make you feel anxious, so instead of trying, you stay back. One day, though, you may be left wondering what you could have done if you had left your comfort zone.

2. Waiting for the perfect time.

The notion of perfect timing is a myth. There is no perfect time to buy a house or start a family, get married, or move in with your partner. Life just isnt like that. Things happen and no matter how much we prepare, there will be obstacles. If you are always waiting on the perfect time, you will always be waiting.

3. Giving up too quickly.

When things get difficult, it can be tempting to give up. Unfortunately, when you get into a cycle of just giving up when the going gets tough, you are going to miss a lot of good opportunities. Much like anything else, anything worth having is going to require effort.

4. Pretending to be someone you are not.

Its in our human nature to want to fit in. We want to be accepted, and we want to be loved and to feel secure in our communities and social circles. This desire can lead us to put on a front and to fit into a mold to fit into society. The thing is, if we all try to fit into a mold, there is no room for individuality. What is the fun of that? Not only that, but its miserable trying to be someone else, instead of just being who you are and learning to live with that.

5. Staying in bad relationships.

It might seem like the right thing to do, to stay in a relationship that isnt optimal, because you have kids or because you feel like the relationship has potential. People stay in bad relationships for several reasons. One day, though, if your relationship is legitimately bad, you may regret wasting years of your life with someone that wasnt right for you.

6. Not learning from your mistakes.

We all make bad choices in life, and when we do, we can either fa...

The Federal Reserve Intervenes: Bank Term Funding Program "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The Federal Reserve balance sheet increased by $300 billion in one week, leading to debate about whether these actions qualify as quantitative easing.

The article below is an excerpt from a recent edition of Bitcoin Magazine PRO, Bitcoin Magazine's premium markets newsletter. To be among the first to receive these insights and other on-chain bitcoin market analysis straight to your inbox, subscribe now.

The Lender Of Last Resort

Just days after the fallout from Silicon Valley Bank and the establishment of the Bank Term Funding Program (BTFP), theres been a significant rise in the Federal Reserves balance sheet after a full year of decline via quantitative tightening (QT). The PTSD from extensive quantitative easing (QE) is causing many people to sound the alarms, but the changes in the Feds balance sheet are a lot more nuanced than a new regime shift in monetary policy. In absolute terms, its the largest increase in the balance sheet weve seen since March 2020 and in relative terms, its an outlier thats catching everyones attention.

Weekly change in the Fed's balance sheet

The key takeaway is that this is much different than the QE spree of asset buying and the stimulative easy money with near-zero interest rates that weve experienced over the last decade. This is about select banks needing liquidity in times of economic distress and those banks getting short-term loans with the goal of covering deposits and paying the loans back in quick fashion. Its not the outright purchase of securities to indefinitely hold on the balance sheet from the Fed, but rather balance sheet assets that should be short-lived while continuing QT policy.

Nonetheless, it is a balance sheet expansion and a liquidity increase in the short-term potentially just a temporary measure (still to be determined). At the very least, these liquidity injections help institutions not become forced sellers of securities when they otherwise would be. Whether thats QE, pseudo QE, or not QE is besides the point. The system is showing fragility once again and the government has to step in to keep it from facing a systemic risk. In the short-term, assets that thr...

Is She Wrong for Making Her Daughter Get a Job to Help Pay for the Dogs Vet Bills? People Responded. "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Kids need to learn about responsibility.

And by the time theyre 15-years-old, you better believe that they need to know right from wrong.

So is this mom a jerk for making her teenage daughter get a job to help pay their dogs vet bills after a mishap?

Read on to see what happened and let us know what you think in the comments.

AITA for making my 15-year-old daughter get a job to pay for our dogs vet bills?

I have 3 daughters, Phoebe (19), Allie (18), and Janie (15). We also have a 2 year old chiweenie (chihuahua wiener dog mix), Pebble.

We were in the middle of a heat wave 2 weeks ago with temperatures hitting 107. Small dogs are more sensitive to heat so we dont let him go to the backyard for long periods of time and the deck is off limits because theres no shade on the deck.

The problem is Pebble loves the deck because he can watch the cars, people walking on the trail behind our house, and he can see our neighbors chickens.

Janie doesnt have first period and doesnt leave for school until 10 a few days a week. Both Allie and Phoebe leave between 9-9:30 so its Janies responsibility to make sure Pebble is inside, the fans are on, and he has water.

2 weeks ago in the worst of the heat wave, Pebble was crying at the deck door. Janie got annoyed and let him go on the deck. Then she left for school and forgot him on the deck.

Allie came home a few hours later and started looking for Pebble. She found him passed out on the deck and called me sobbing. I left work early, took him to the emergency vet, they treated him for heat stroke.

He had to stay at the vet for a few days and Allie was inconsolable while he was gone. She was constant...

JR Unveils Giant Installation of Athlete Jumping Over Hong Kongs Bamboo Scaffolding

JR Art Installation in Hong Kong

Three years after it was originally scheduled, JRs enormous art installation has finally taken its place overlooking Hong Kong's Victoria Bay. The French artist didn't let delays brought on by the pandemic stop him from creating Rising Up, which was inaugurated to usher in Hong Kong Arts Month.

The piece shows an athlete jumping across a mass of bamboo scaffolding and is a continuation of the Giants series that JR began during the 2016 Rio Olympics. For JR, who says he's always been intrigued by Hong Kong's bamboo scaffolding, it only made sense to revisit the project in this location.

As an athletic gesture, rising up' embodies taking the risk to separate oneself from solid earth, to resist the pull of gravity and feel the brief freedom of flight, he explains.

Measuring nearly 40 feet tall and 40 feet wide, the installation is impossible to miss when visiting Hong Kong's Ocean Terminal Deck. The impressive installation is garnering a lot of attention and is particularly popular on Instagram, with visitors posting pictures daily. But, for some, there are concerns about the artwork.

In particular, practitioners of feng shui, have taken issue with the composition. Feng shui calls for the specific arrangement of objects in order to optimize the flow of positive energy. It is widely practiced throughout Asia and taken into consideration for design and architecture projects. Some followers have voiced their concern with the high-jumper's position.

Why Do Babies Need A Bill Of Rights? "IndyWatch Feed Fertility"

Lisa Reagan talks with Darcia Narvaez about the science behind the Evolved Nests new Baby Bill of Rights poster, available here.

In 1989, world leaders made a historic commitment to the worlds children by adopting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child an international agreement on childhood.  Its become the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history.  However, as Darcia explains in this interview, the convention does not reflect the basic needs of babies. Babys rights are really basic needs for brain, immune system, and even spiritual development (nature connection). If these basic needs arent meet when a babys biology expects them to be met, there may be a lifetime of compensating for these deficiencies as adults.

in Darcias 2018 academic book, Basic Needs, Wellbeing, and Morality: Fulfilling Human Potential. The 14 rights of babies presented on the poster reflect the science of the nine components of our Evolved Nest a few components were broken down into smaller parts. Amazing 3D Murals Look Like Theyre Bursting From the Walls

3D Mural by SCAF

Abandoned buildings find new life through Scafs hyperrealistic murals. The self-taught French artist seeks out unconventional places to adorn with his amazing depictions, which range from massive animals to recognizable cartoon characters.

Although it is hard to grasp the effect in just one photograph, all of Scaf's murals are rendered two-dimensional. But through perspective and light and shading, he manages to create the illusion that these figures are not just painted on top of a flat surface but standing in front of it or on it. To prove their realism, Scaf oftentimes poses alongside his finished works so that viewers can make sense of what is 3D and what is not.

The locations for Scaf's art vary but are almost always situated in neglected places, such as a factory, house, and even unused pools. Once he gets to work, however, the walls quickly change into portals for lifesize characters to appear. In some of his pieces, it looks as though a dragon's head is emerging from a darkened cavern, or an enormous alligator is exiting from a fiery archway.

You can purchase prints of Scaf's art through his online shop, and keep up to date with his latest projects by following the artist's Instagram.

Fractional Reserve Carbon Accounting Is An Attack On Bitcoin Mining "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

A forthcoming New York Times article is expected to introduce fractional reserve indirect carbon accounting and target bitcoin mining.

This is an opinion editorial by Pierre Rochard, the vice president of research at Riot Platforms.

Bitcoin mining has zero carbon emissions and policies to reduce carbon emissions should be focused on real carbon emitters like airplanes and coal power plants. Focusing on zero-emission consumers like electric vehicles and Bitcoin mining is unscientific.

Electricity producers carbon emissions are already accounted for as Scope 1 direct emissions per the U.S. EPA. The only purpose of double-counting emissions with Scope 2, indirect emissions is to expand the power of government bureaucracy. Direct Scope 1 emissions increase carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere, indirect, Scope 2 emissions are an unscientific fiction.

But it gets worse.

This week, we learned that The New York Times is working on a story to introduce for the first time fractional reserve indirect carbon accounting (FRICA). It is expected to rebrand this as marginal indirect carbon accounting to make it more palatable.

We recently found out the hard way that fiat banks dont hold all of our money. They only hold a small percentage and lend out the rest, an inflationary and dubious practice known as fractional reserve banking. The New York Times upcoming FRICA methodology is the equivalent of stress-testing a fractional reserve bank by withdrawing one marginal dollar, and then announcing that not only is the bank solvent, but it is also 100% cash reserved. This bad accounting ignores the actual balance sheet assets. The New York Times has never used this method of measuring fictitious indirect carbon emissions for any other industry, it will be leveraging it to attack Bitcoin mining.

The New York Times FRICA assumes that every incremental increase in electricity consumption always increases electricity production from a natural gas power plant. The absurd conclusion of FRICA is that 100% of electricity is from carbon-emitting natural gas, because any single consumer of electricity could turn off and decrease marginal demand.

In 2022, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) reported that the Texas grid produced roughly 40% of electricity from zero-carb...

Porn "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

Ryan McGinley, Fawn (Fuchsia), 2012. From Waris Ahluwalias portfolio in issue no. 201 (Summer 2012).

Well into my thirties, I was lucky enough to have friends with whom I could talk about anything. Anythingexcept the subjects of porn and masturbation. It had always been that way for me, outside of a few explosive arguments with ex-partners. The rest of the time we didnt talk about it because we didnt need to, because everyone was cool with itor so our silence seemed to be saying. Except I was fairly clear that beneath this facade, I wasnt cool with itId almost never had conversations about porn, and because I hadnt worked out my feelings and thoughts, I felt terrified to even begin. This seemed to indicate that I needed to bite the bullet and talk about it, and I imagined that other people probably did too.

So, over the course of 2020, when many of us were at home, I began to speak with friends and acquaintances on the topic of porn, recording and transcribing our conversations. Initially, I thought that if I published the chats at all, I would somehow incorporate them into essaysa safer and more literary and urbane strategy. Over time, I came to understand that these were conversations that needed to be presented as they werein part to convince other people of the benefits of speaking about porn, and to give an insight into what those conversations could actually look like in practice. What follows are extracts from three of the nineteen porn chats I had.

ONE

A gay man in his early thirties. He lives in the United States, and is currently single.

What is good porn for you?

Good porn is no longer than twenty minutes long. Not to be overly virtuous, but I think that a lot of the porn I watched in the pastand probably the porn a lot of people consumeis pretty crappy and unethical. Ive been interested in the idea of finding more ethical porn, less problematic porn. Theres more ethical stuff for straight people, a few sites. Ive found a lot fewer for queer stuff, weirdly.

What would ethical porn look like?

Porn thats less about cum, more about intimacy. Less about these sexual scripts that seem to be a really tried-and-tested formula...

How the FBI Took an Innocent Woman's Savings "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The Federal Bureau of Investigation regularly seizes cash, cars and other valuables that belong to people who aren't accused of any crimes. Months later, many of those people receive a dense, boilerplate notice stating that the FBI plans to keep their property forever, without any explanation of whya blatantly unconstitutional practice. That's what happened to Linda Martin. When the FBI took her life savings from a safe-deposit box during a 2021 raid of US Private Vaults in Beverly Hills, Calif., she assumed her money would be returned. The company's alleged wrongdoing had nothing to do with her. But several months later, sheand hundreds of other innocent people who had their safe-deposit boxes takenreceived a notice stating that the government wanted to forfeit her money. The [notice] didn't accuse Ms. Martin of any crime or even lay out why the FBI was trying to take her property. The FBI sends out similarly inscrutable notices whenever it wants to forfeit property, in a clear violation of the Fifth Amendment. Federal agencies keep the proceeds from forfeited property. In the US Private Vaults case, the FBI admitted under oath that even before the raid occurred it had decided to pursue property forfeiture against everything worth over $5,000 in the renters' boxes. Using federal forfeiture records, the Institute for Justice calculated that from 2017 to 2021 Justice Department agencies gained more than $8 billion through forfeiture, with the FBI taking in more than $1.19 billion of that bounty.

U.S. Special Forces Want to Use Deepfakes for Psy-Ops "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

U.S. Special Operations Command, responsible for some of the country's most secretive military endeavors, is gearing up to conduct internet propaganda and deception campaigns online using deepfake videos, according to federal contracting documents. SOCOM's next generation propaganda aspirations are outlined in a procurement document that lists capabilities it's seeking for the near future and soliciting pitches from outside parties that believe they're able to build them. Last with a new section: "Advanced technologies for use in Military Information Support Operations (MISO)," a Pentagon euphemism for its global propaganda and deception efforts. Perhaps as provocative as the mention of deepfakes is the section that follows, which notes SOCOM wishes to finely tune its offensive propaganda seemingly by spying on the intended audience through their internet-connected devices. Described as a "next generation capability to 'takeover' Internet of Things (loT) devices for collect [sic] data and information from local populaces to enable breakdown of what messaging might be popular and accepted through sifting of data once received," the document says that the ability to eavesdrop on propaganda targets "would enable MISO to craft and promote messages that may be more readily received by local populace." In 2017, WikiLeaks published pilfered CIA files that revealed a roughly similar capability to hijack into household devices.

'Project Fear' authors discussed when to 'deploy' new Covid variant "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

[Former UK Health Secretary] Matt Hancock wanted to "deploy" a new Covid variant to "frighten the pants off" the public and ensure they complied with lockdown, leaked messages seen by The Telegraph have revealed. The Lockdown Files more than 100,000 WhatsApp messages sent between ministers, officials and others show how the Government used scare tactics to force compliance and push through lockdowns. Hancock ... appeared to suggest in one message that a new strain of Covid that had recently emerged would be helpful in preparing the ground for the looming lockdown, by scaring people into compliance. In a WhatsApp conversation on Dec 13 ... Damon Poole - one of Mr Hancock's media advisers - informed his boss that Tory MPs were "furious already about the prospect" of stricter Covid measures and suggested "we can roll pitch with the new strain". The comment suggested that they believed the strain could be helpful in preparing the ground for a future lockdown and tougher restrictions in the run-up to Christmas 2020. Mr Hancock then replied: "We frighten the pants off everyone with the new strain." Mr Poole agreed, saying: "Yep that's what will get proper behaviour [sic] change." Mr Hancock expressed his worry that talks over Brexit would dominate headlines and reduce the impact, and probed Mr Poole for his media advice. "When do we deploy the new variant," asked Mr Hancock. During the pandemic, the Government was accused of scaremongering but it was denied.

Project Fear's 'psychological warfare' must never be repeated "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Leaked messages seen by The Telegraph showed that in December 2020, Matt Hancock, the health secretary at the time, suggested that the Government "frighten the pants off everyone" to ensure strict Covid rules were adhered to. Sir Charles Walker, who was a leading member of the Covid Recovery Group of Conservative backbenchers, said that he was distressed by the leaked conversations. "What makes me so angry is the evils and the psychological warfare we deployed against young people and the population, all those behavioural psychologists," he [said]. "And there needs to be a reckoning. We need to understand and fully appreciate the damage that those sorts of campaigns did." Sir Charles lamented Parliament going "missing in action" as most MPs waved through dozens of Covid restrictions with little debate. He said: "Those voices that raised concerns were just othered. We were positioned as being anti-lockdown, Right-wing headbangers. And actually wanting to do the right thing isn't Right-wing. "We did terrible things to youngsters. We did terrible things to a large number of people. We need to make sure we never do those things again." Paul Dolan, a professor of behavioural science at the London School of Economics, blamed a mix of "mission creep" and "expertise creep" for a response dominated by groupthink. "It was wrong in every sense to make younger people scared of a virus that we knew very early on was of very limited risk to them," he [said].

Note: The unethical use of "nudge" tactics to inflate fear among the public prompted 40 psychologists in the UK to write a letter to the Parliaments Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee, saying it was highly questionable whether a civilised society should knowingly increase the emotional discomfort of its citizens as a means of gaining their compliance." BOOK REVIEW: 'The Truth About Wuhan: How I Uncovered the Biggest Lie in History' "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The origin of SARS-CoV-2, the agent that causes the disease COVID-19, remains a mystery. But there are purportedly a few high up in government and scientific communities well aware of its genesis. In "The Truth About Wuhan: How I Uncovered the Biggest Lie in History," Andrew G. Huff, former EcoHealth Alliance vice president and senior scientist, details his coming forward "as a material witness and whistleblower related to SARS-CoV-2." "The Truth About Wuhan" [contains] an insider's view of working for EcoHealth Alliance; a damning critique of models and of function" research; the real COVID-19 timeline; China and U.S. culpability in the virus mayhem; and the multifarious, direct attacks used by the federal government to harass and discredit Mr. Huff. According to the author, "SARS-CoV-2 leaked from the [Wuhan Institute of Virology] laboratory as early as August 2019. The probable cases detected in Italy in 2019 make sense as Italy is one of the most popular tourist destinations of the Chinese. By mid-October 2019 the disease was likely already on every continent except Antarctica. The DoD, along with militaries globally, detected the disease in their countries' service members that attended the Military World Games in Wuhan. Trying to avoid global panic, governments began to implement response plans, which included the U.S. government's mobilization of the mRNA SARS-CoV-2 gene therapy."

Conflicting Reports Thicken Nord Stream Bombing Plot "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

In the month since veteran journalist Seymour Hersh published his bombshell report alleging that President Joe Biden personally authorized a covert action to bomb the Nord Stream pipelines, we've seen a frenzy of speculation, detailed dissection of Hersh's specific assertions, and the emergence of competing narratives both supporting and denouncing the report. On March 7, the New York Times and the German newspaper Die Zeit both published stories that thicken the plot. The Times story was based on a narrative clearly being pushed by U.S. intelligence sources that "a pro-Ukrainian group carried out the attack." If the bombing of the Nord Stream pipelines was, as Hersh alleges, directed by the U.S., then the leaked suggestion that the culprits were a "pro-Ukrainian group" could indicate a nascent effort at floating a cover story. No one has claimed responsibility for this attack, but there are recent precedents for foreign actors taking credit for U.S. operations to conceal Washington's involvement. Military officials have lied or misled the public ... throughout U.S. history. There is no U.S. law or rule prohibiting the government from promoting a false alternative explanation to conceal an operation. "This is an established practice in military operations and intelligence activities where it is often known as 'cover and deception,'" [said former Government Secrecy Project director Steven Aftergood]. "Sometimes, in order to maintain the operational security of X, you have to declare that it is actually Y."

Kongkee Resurrects an Ancient Chinese Poet in an Energetic Cyberpunk Vision of Asian Futurism "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

The story of the legendary Chinese poet Qu Yuan ends in tragedy. Living during the destructive Warring States period that ran from 481 to 221 BCE, Qu Yuan was an influential writer and politician who was banished by King Huai of Chu and subsequently spent much of his time traveling the country and working on verse. The life of exile didnt suit the poet, though, leading him into a deep depression and toward his eventual suicide in the Miluo River. Created as a hunt to retrieve Qu Yuans body, the annual Dragon Boat Festival continues to this day in celebration of his legacy.

A forthcoming exhibition at Chicagos Wrightwood 659 imagines the poets afterlife as his soul journeys from the ancient Chu Kingdom to a retro-futuristic Asia where he is reborn as an android in a psychedelic cyberpunk landscape. Melding history with a distinctive sci-fi vision, Kongkee: Warring States of Cyberpunk features works in several mediums by the London-based Chinese animator and artist Kong Khong-chang, known as Kongkee. Using videos, projections, installations, ancient objects, and graphic pieces, the artist explores Asian Futurism through the energetic and luminously rendered narrative of a Chinese icon.

Amazingly Realistic Animal Sand Sculptures Come Alive on Shore "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Amazingly Realistic Animal Sand Sculptures Come Alive on Shore

Realistic Sand Sculpture by Andoni Bastarrika

When we think of sand sculptures, castles likely first come to mind. But you can do a lot more with sand than construct tiny buildings; artist Andoni Bastarrika is proof of it. He creates realistic animal portraits that are so lifelike you'll do a double-take when you see them. To create the illusion, Bastarrika tightly packs the sand to create a blank canvas for textures like fur and wrinkles. He adds to the realism with stone powders that color the sand as well as other materials as necessary. The resulting animals appear to be laying on the ground with an ocean view behind them.

Bastarrika realized he had a gift for this unique type of sculpture in the summer of 2010 after playing with his daughters on the beach. From that moment I knew clearly inside that I had to follow this path, he tells My Modern Met. I practiced for two years in seasons like autumn, winter, and early spring when the beaches were empty. After that time, he felt ready to share his talents with others.

There is a reason that Bastarrika prefers to sculpt subjects that are nude, which includes animals. As in nature itself, he explains, nothing is straight, everything is round, everything is fluid, everything is created in a spiral. And therefore to model naked bodies I didn't need metal tools like spatulas. I was able to model it simply with my hands, thanks to the high sensitivity I have in them. And then after looking for and achieving the expression with my hands, is when I began to use bird feathers and a pointed stick to delve into the details.

Bastarrika has a deep interest in evoking the spirit of his subjects that then find a connection with the viewer. I am fascinated that people can confuse sculptures made simply with sand and water as if they were real, he says. The sculptures that I make have life, they have a soul, it is the same soul that Mother Earth has. My sculptures speak for her and for all the animals that are the most connected to Mother Earth. For this, I focus on the wisdom, strengt...

Salads "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

Whats your favorite salad?

Wifee and the little monkey like salads. Last time, I made a Mediterranean salad like an antipasto, topped it with couscous and then shrimp. They liked it a lot.

Tonight was a regular salad topped with pearl couscous topped with shrimp. Monkey said more shrimp, its yummy.

Tell Senate Committee Members to Vote YES on HB 521

House Bill 521 (HB 521), legislation legalizing raw milk sales in Hawaii, will be heard in a joint meeting with the Senate Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Agriculture and Environment (AEN) committees at 1:30pm on Monday, March 20th.

HB 521 legalizes the sale of raw milk and raw milk products direct to consumers provided that the farm from which the raw milk or raw milk product originated shall own or house no more than ten milk-bearing cows. Producers must be in compliance with rules issued by the state board of health, including a requirement that the label on the raw milk or raw milk products have a warning statement. Producers must also obtain a permit before beginning operations.

HB 521 also allows sales of raw goat milk for pet consumption. Producers must be in compliance with rules issued by the state department of health, including a requirement that a label have the statement: Contains pathogens that may be unsafe for human consumption.

Hawaii is an outlier, one of only five states that doesnt allow any sale or distribution of raw milk. Its time for the legislature to change that.
