What is a Wallet? Guide to storing Bitcoin "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

After you receive bitcoin, youll need to store it in a secure digital wallet. This guide helps you understand what a wallet is and how there are different wallets to suit your needs.

A wallet is where you typically store your bitcoin after purchase, just like a physical wallet is used to keep your cash and cards.

Once you understand bitcoin and are ready to buy it, earn it or receive it as payment in exchange for goods and services, you should set up a wallet so that your counterpart has a digital address to send the bitcoin to.

Your wallet must also be secure and robust for storing your bitcoin. Nowadays, there are plenty of digital wallets to choose from and this guide offers comprehensive information to help you make the right choice.

Wallets can be hardware-based or software-based, can be downloaded on a mobile device, on a computer desktop or stored on paper by printing a QR code that enables access to the private keys.

WHAT IS A BITCOIN WALLET

A bitcoin wallet is an electronic device that allows you to send, receive and access your funds, similar to how a traditional wallet stores your banknotes or coins. In contrast with a physical wallet, a bitcoin wallet does not store actual coins but the private key cryptographic data that proves ownership and gives access to the actual money that is held on the blockchain.

Losing the private key or having it stolen is a Bitcoiners worst nightmare because it means the funds are lost. This is why securing this cryptographic data is the first thing you need to do when you acquire or receive bitcoin. Your private key could also be lost through hacking, phishing, computer malfunctions or the loss of the device itself.

In light of what happened to Celsius, Voyager, Three Arrows Capital and FTX in 2022, when they lost all their customers bitcoin through poor business practices, leading to their bankruptcies, the case for self-custody could not be stronger. While these bankruptcies were a difficult pill to swallow for the cryptocurrency industry, they were not Bitcoiners first rodeo with bankrupt exchanges, for the Mt. Gox hack in 2014 led to the initial movement of not your keys, not your coins, which has continued to this day.

Bitcoiners often refer to themselves as sovereign individuals. To be a sovereign individual, you must take self-custody of your BTC. To do this, you must learn ab...

The Mayan Ouroboros ROsub "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

From subscriber Devon:
I believe that this interview of 2013, with Drunvalo Melchizedek, is highly relevant at this time.
With Earth's atmosphere affected by intense Solar activity, and rocked by Earthquakes and volcanic turmoil. Although, the focus is on human consciousness change, brought about by that turmoil. Not the drama made of it by Hollywood, and tabloid content.
An example of such a change, on the mundane level, is that 40 % of the Dutch population is aware of the pandemic deception.
With that number growing more fast.
The leaked conversations of Matt Hancock, the British Health Minister, are a bomb in the rather complacent British mindset, much needed, from my point of view.
The latest book by Drunvalo is "The Mayan Ouroboros". The host is Red Ice Radio:

Locking Down ISIS "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic had a major impact on all kinds of social behaviors, from discrimination to civic engagement and protests. What effect has the pandemic had on more extreme behaviors, like terrorist attacks from groups like the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS)? Many armed actors, such as ISIS, threatened to use the pandemic to advance their goals. In its propaganda, ISIS even referred to COVID-19 as the smallest soldier of Allah on the face of the earth.

In some ways, the pandemic presented an opportunity to armed groups like ISIS. The pandemic threatened to divert resources away from fighting extremism because it overwhelmed countries budgets and placed demands on some countries security forces to deliver public health care services.

In our research, however, my colleagues and I found that the pandemic did not generally increase ISIS attacks. Instead, we found that lockdown measures adopted during the pandemic reduced attacks in Egypt, Iraq, and Syria. The effects were especially large in densely populated areas, where the population provided physical cover for ISISs activities, and in areas outside ISISs base of operations, which were harder to reach due to travel restrictions.

In taking people off the streets, the lockdowns removed the physical cover ISIS relies on for its operations, especially in urban areas, and eliminated many high-value civilian targets, such as markets. In shutting down businesses and reducing travel, the lockdowns also reduced ISISs revenue.  However, the lockdowns were not in place long enough to significantly deplete the groups reserves.

Even though the impact of the lockdowns on ISIS was significant, the lockdowns posed less of a challenge to ISIS than most other armed groups. ISIS has large financial reserves, operates in largely rural areas, and does not extensively target civilian populations. Most...

How Will Bitcoin Adapt To Banking Uncertainty? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

As some of the cryptocurrency industrys go-to banks failed, Bitcoins importance was on display while its on and off ramps suffered.

This is an opinion editorial by Karen Shidlo, a blockchain-focused content creator.

The recent news of Silvergate Capital, Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) and Signature Bank shutting down has sent ripples throughout the financial community. These three banks had become some of the most popular banking partners for cryptocurrency exchanges and companies, and their sudden closures left many in the industry scrambling to find new partners.

What Impact Will This Have On Bitcoin?

Looking at the cryptocurrency industry as a whole, the closures will make it much more difficult for companies and exchanges in this space to find banking partners, including Bitcoin-only operations. With fewer options available, these companies will have to spend more time and resources searching for banks that are willing to work with them, which could slow down their growth and development.

The closures could also lead to increased regulatory scrutiny of the cryptocurrency industry. If the closures were indeed due to regulatory pressure to stifle the growth of cryptocurrency, as some have speculated, it could signal that regulators are becoming more serious about cracking down on Bitcoin-related activities. This could lead to further restrictions on Bitcoin exchanges and companies, making it even harder for them to operate.

On the other hand, the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) is a blessing for bitcoin (BTC), according to a recent CoinDesk article, which noted parallels between the ways that these bank failures have drawn attention toward bitcoin with the 2013 Cyprus financial crisis, which underscored flaws in the fractional reserve system.

Bank uncertainty emphasizes the point that customers' funds aren't as safe in regulated banks as they have been made to believe, and only validates Bitcoin's appeal as a decentralized, peer-to-peer network and seizure-resistant cryptocurrency facilitating the self custody of funds.

While its been the norm especially in the western world to feel comfortable under false pretenses that traditional financial institutions are safe and well regulated, history continues to reveal that banks are capable of making bad decisions. Undoubtedly, this is a good form of advertising for Bitcoin. The SVB scandal has emphasized its intended use case: to provide an alternative payment system that would operate free of central c...

Ludwig van Beethoven died in 1827, a bit early to be subjected to the kinds of DNA analysis that have become so prevalent today. Luckily, the German-speaking world of the early nineteenth century still adhered to the custom of saving locks of hair from the deceased particularly lucky for an archaeology student named Tristan Begg and his collaborators in the study Genomic analyses of hair from Ludwig van Beethoven, published just this month in Current Biology. In the video from Cambridge University just above, Begg introduces the research project and describes what new information it reveals about the composer whose life and work have been so intensively studied for so long.

Working with an international team of scientists, I identified five genetically matching, authentic locks of hair and used them to sequence Beethovens genome, Begg says. We discovered significant genetic risk factors for liver disease and evidence that Beethoven contracted the Hepatitis B virus in, at the latest, the months before his final illness.

Is He Wrong for Not Cutting Down a Peach Tree in His Yard? People Shared Their Thoughts. "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Why do people feel the need to try to tell people what they should do with their own houses and their own yards?

Its enough to make a person crazy!

And this guy was clearly NOT having it when his neighbor told him he should cut down the peach tree on his lawn.

Read on and let us know if you think he acted like an a**hole.

AITA for not cutting down a peach tree on my lawn?

I(46M) have an apple tree in my backyard and a peach tree in my front yard. I am currently living in my parents house with my wife(46F). My mother and father planted them.

They passed away and we decided to plant more. I only trim them when the branches get too big. They are mostly for the wildlife in the nearby woods. The deer love to come and eat the fruit. I dont spray them with any pesticides as they arent for consumption.

I work during the week and dont get home until the evening. I havent had any issues with the neighbors as the house is mostly in the countryside and surrounded by woods. A few weeks ago, a new neighbor moved in to the house nextdoor. I havent had any interaction with them until now. I was not aware that the neighbor was coming over and grabbing fruit from the peach tree.

I get home yesterday and neighbor was standing on my porch. She comes storming over to my car and says The peaches made my son and I sick. I told her that the fruit was mostly for decoration and for the wildlife. She starts screaming at me and threatens to call the cops unless I take the trees down.

I told her no, Im not going to take the trees down. My wife suggested going out to the grocery store and buying her some peaches to keep the peace.

Are Atheists America's Most Hated Group? Shocking Findings From New Survey "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The Pew Research Center published a new report on March 15th, revealing how Americans view different religious groups in the country. Conducted from September 13 to 18, 2022, the survey gathered data from 10,588 participants, with a margin of error of 1.5%.

The study discovered that 40% to 60% of the respondents said they hold neither favorable nor unfavorable views or dont know enough to say when asked if they had positive or negative feelings towards other religious groups.

According to Patricia Tevington, the survey's lead researcher, the study's results speak to most people not wanting to rate entire groups of other people due to fear of stereotyping. The results are also affected by the size of the surveyed religious groups since most people tend to rate their religious groups more positively.

However, many of the respondents had more positive views of certain religious groups, with Jews, mainline Protestants, and Catholics ranking higher compared to other faiths, particularly Muslims, Mormons, Evangelical Christians, and atheists.

35% of the respondents viewed Jews more positively than negatively, with only 6% of Americans expressing such sentiment. Mainland Protestants and Catholics were also viewed more positively, about 30% and 34%, respectively.

On the other hand, only 20% of Americans had f...

Quran Burner Banned from Entering the United Kingdom "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

After his controversial stint of burning a Quran in Denmark and Sweden during protests, far-right Danish-Swedish politician and activist Rasmus Paludan said he would travel to the United Kingdom to perform his act again last Wednesday to coincide with Ramadan.

Paludan said in a Twitter video last Sunday that he intends to travel to Wakefield in the West Yorkshire region to "fight back" against "undemocratic forces, adding that he would burn the Islamic holy text in the citys public square.

But before he could set foot in the country, the British governments security minister Tom Tugendhat announced that Paludan was added to the warnings index and will not be allowed access to the United Kingdom, barring him from entering Britain.

During a hearing in the House of Commons, Simon Lightwood, a member of parliament (MP) from the Labour Party for Wakefield, raised concerns over Paludans potential visit to the city.

His threats to burn the Quran in the city come after the city was embroiled in a controversy surrounding an autistic Year 10 student earlier this month when he received death threats after allegedly damaging a Quran inside his schools premises.

"Far-right Islamophic Danish politician Rasmus Paludan said he is going to travel from Denmark to Wakefield for the sole purpose of burning a Quran in a public place, Lightwood said. Mr. Paludan was previously jailed in Denmark for his hateful and racist statements. He is a dangerous man that should not be allowed into this country.

6 Things You Should NEVER Say To Your Child Before Bed "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

As a parent, its essential to create a bedtime routine that sets the stage for a peaceful nights sleep for your child. Bedtime is a time for relaxation, comfort, and positive communication. However, some words can harm your childs mental and emotional well-being, making it difficult for them to drift off to sleep. Here are six things to never say to your child before bed.

Youre going to fail.

Telling your child that they will fail is a sure way to increase their anxiety levels and cause them to have negative thoughts. Instead, encourage them by saying positive things such as, I believe in you, and Youre doing great.

Im disappointed in you.

Children want to please their parents, and hearing that youre disappointed can be devastating for them. Instead, focus on their positive qualities, and if there is a problem, work together to find a solution.

I dont have time for you.

Children need attention and affection, especially before bedtime. Telling your child that you dont have time for them can make them feel neglected and unloved. Make an effort to spend quality time with your child before bedtime, even if its just a few minutes of reading together.

Youre being a baby.

Children are still learning how to process their emotions, and dismissing their feelings as babyish can make them feel ashamed and embarrassed. Instead, listen to their concerns and offer comfort and reassurance.

I wish you were more like your sibling.

Comparing your child to their sibling can create feelings of jealousy and resentment. Instead, celebrate your childs unique qualities and accomplishments, and help them feel valued for who they are.

Youre not good enough.

Telling your child that theyre not good enough can damage their self-esteem and create negative self-talk. Instead, praise them for their efforts and help them to develop a growth mindset where they see challenges as opportunities for growth.

In conclusion, what you say to your child before bedtime can have a significant impact on their mental and emotional well-being. As a parent, its crucial to use positive language that encourages and supports your child. Remember that your child looks up to you and that your words can have a lasting effect on their self-esteem and confidence.

20 Quotes People Say Completely Changed Their Outlook "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Its all too easy to get stuck in the worldview were born with and never really look for a new one. There are things that can jostle us into a new point of view, though, and it can honestly be refreshing.

These 20 people have all had that eye-opening moment, and they say these are the quotes that gave them the jumpstart they needed.

20. Acknowledge your progress.

Long time ago I was meeting two women on the sidewalk and just as we passed each other I heard this one sentence from one of them:

You dont notice your progress in life because you are always raising the bar.

19. Try not to worry.

Let go or be dragged and old zen proverb I heard at a meditation class.

Really changed the way I let myself worry about things

18. Go toward the light.

If you look for the light, you will often find it, but if you look for the dark, it is all you will ever see Uncle Iroh, Legend of Korra.

Has helped me through some dark times in the past, just looking for that small bit of good in a heap of bad.

17. We all know the difference.

do you listen or just wait to speak

I get so far through listening then hear something I want to reply to and then dont hear any more of the conversation.

16. Be open to change.

It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

Aristotle.

And yes it isnt the real quote but elementary school aged me internalized that thought and I have applied it to everything ever since then.

Intuitive Astrology: Libra Full Moon April 2023 "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The Libra Full Moon reaches its peak fullness on April 5, 2023. Libra is a sign associated with our relationships and how we interact within them. It is also connected to justice, fairness, and the needs and well-being of others.

Under the Libra Full Moon, we may notice a spotlight on our relationships and how we choose to show up in them. Which relationships are bringing out our best? What beliefs cause us to shrink back into less of the person we can be?

The Full Moon may illuminate this for us, sending healing vibrations that can allow us to feel more confident, supported, and seen. We may also finally get the confidence to let go or shift relationships that are no longer serving our highest selves.

The Libra Full Moon Brings Healing

Chiron, the asteroid known as the wounded healer, is very active under the April 2023 Full Moon and will be supporting us to observe how our wounds may be guiding our relationships and the way we choose to show up in our interactions with others.

Our wounds can sometimes keep us stuck from fully being present and authentic in our relationships, but it is the energy of Chiron that reminds us that our wounds dont have to hold us back. Our wounds can exist and still lead us to a place of wholeness, love, connection, and beauty.

Chiron recognizes that some wounds are just too deep to ever be fixed. Instead, Chiron teaches us to accept our wounds, love our wounds, and to understand that these forever ourselves.

It is through Chirons own wounding that he finds his gift of being a healer, teacher, and intuitive. And perhaps your wounds can offer you the same.

You can walk with your wounds, but still lead an amazing, loving, and purposeful life.

If you are willing to step into the work, the Libra Full Moon can shine a light on this healing journey for you, helping you to recognize your wholeness, despite your wounds. And from this wholeness, it may allow you to make deeper, more meaningful, and more authentic connections with others.

The Libra Full Moon: Cord Cutting

There is a beauty under the Libra Full Moon that can guide us to become deeper, more connected, and more in tune with the world around us. We are often so focused on getting in tune with ourselves and our inner world, but this Full Moon encourages us to get in tune with others too.

Aprils Full Moon encourages us to forge deeper connections and to not be afraid of leaning in. There is a tendency when Libra energy is strong to lose ourselves in the presence of others, and while we dont really want to go there, sometimes it is a necessary part of finding ourselves.

If you have found yourself lost in the grips of another, this Full Moon is your opportunity to swim to the other side of it and to come out more awakened and mor...

Where Did the Pivotal Point Occur in US Economic Decline? "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Expecting the federal government to solve all social woes led to the downfall of the American society. It began socioeconomically when under the Johnson Administration the snowball began rolling downhill with LBJs Great Society the idea that deficit spending to guarantee income against poverty mainly for Blacks in the decaying inner cities became an effective voting base. The federal government threw away trillions on the War on Cancer, The War on Drugs and all the other ill-advised taxpayer funded programs that became perpetual fiscal bottomless pits. The stage was set for the compounded deficits that would lead to the US financing its own debt by borrowing foreign money to the point where other countries carried the inability of the US to pay its bills along with the growing interest that was accumulating!

Image result for women's rights in the 60's

Equality of the sexes or a con job?

David Rockefeller admitted that the entire ulterior motive of women in the work place to prove they were as good as or better than men under Womens rights was a political narrative started by the federal government so that both adults in a married household would go to work and pay income tax. Now the federal government could bank on doubling the income tax on a married couple and would surely squander that extra funding under the rabbit hole of federal fiscal mismanagement. Rather than use that added income tax revenue to pay off the deficit this would simply lead to expanded federal government social programs and needless fiscal waste.

Image result for Reagan's Grace Commission

Buying votes through deficit spending

As President Reagan found out after forming the Grace Commission that the Congressional budget did not consult or correspond to the federal collection of taxes and lawmakers deceived the American people into thinking that income taxes pay to run the federal government when they dont! Not only is income tax an imposed expense upon the public as the cost of burden, but there are so many intrastate taxes imposed upon industry such as the gas and oil business that income tax is only a small part of the inflow of government income. Once a federal entitlement is launched its impossible to take it back or terminate it. So, the gigantic welfare state created by Democrat over spending ended up creating dependents especially for Black Amer...

Is This Man An Unfeeling Jerk For Not Helping Take Care Of His Disabled Niece? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Theres nothing easy about caring for a child with special needs. It takes a financial, emotional, physical, and mental toll that people who havent experienced may not be able to understand.

OP says that, before having children, he and his wife decided what exactly they could and could not handle, and knew they would not be willing or able to raise a child with severe special needs.

Before i M40 got married to my wife 33 we talked about every in advance. It was silly stuff at first. How we squeezed toothpaste, which direction the toilet paper roll should face, that sort of thing.

But as our relationship progressed we talked about more serious stuff. How we would discipline our children, living wills, and what we would do if we knew we were having a child with severe special needs.

We decided together that we didnt want to do that to a human. To bring them into the world to suffer. We were lucky enough that it wasnt ever something we had to deal with.

They were lucky to not have to make hard choices (that his family didnt approve of), but his sister was not. Her daughter is significantly disabled and her husband has left because of it, contributing only financially.

I had told my sister this because she is my best friend. She went running to our parents saying that we were terrible people who would terminate a pregnancy that wasnt going to give us a perfect child. I never said that. We had to spend days explaining that we knew what we could handle and what we could deal with. My parents werent happy.

Well, unfortunately, my sister 36 did not have this talk with her husband. When she was pregnant with their second child the doctor told them that the child would have many health issues. They prayed about it and went forward with the pregnancy.

The Complicated Legacy of Camilo Egas "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

QUITO, Ecuador Before the Museo Camilo Egas became a museum, it was a Spanish colonial-style home, complete with a courtyard and white stucco walls to mitigate the summer heat. If you look at the ground, youll see bits of animal bones poking out of the stone floor. These were believed to ward off evil spirits a local custom the colonizers adopted from the colonized.

The history of the museum itself provides a fitting introduction to the artwork stored inside. Camilo Egas, born only a few blocks away in 1889, is an important but increasingly controversial painter who has been equal parts praised and scorned for his attempt to turn the struggles of Indigenous peoples ignored and underserved into works of art.

Egas is considered an early champion of Indigenismo, an art movement that emerged in Latin America in the 1920s when artists turned to their pre-Columbian heritage for inspiration. Coinciding with the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia and the spread of revolutionary parties on the South American continent, Indigenismo promoted socialism and condemned imperialism. Tom Jones Zeroes in on Ho-Chunk Visibility "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

We are living in a moment when artists of color are asking if their only route to art world legitimacy is to make the work that a predominately White art world expects them to make. Current anti-racist thought maintains that it is not the duty of marginalized or otherwise disenfranchised people to do the emotional labor of explaining their historical contexts and grounds for grievances to those who wont do the work of trying to understand it themselves. They are asking: if I am Indigenous, am I only allowed to make work that is about indigeneity?

Ho-Chunk artist Tom Jones sees it more simply: regardless of whether the art looks Indian enough, American Indian art is still Native because it is coming from Native thought and upbringing. Jones has been persistently making art about and for the Ho-Chunk Nation for more than two decades. In the past year, the ar...

Nearly a century after Claude Monet captured the beauty of lily ponds in a series of Impressionist paintings, Ai Weiwei has reimagined the triptych in a radically new way. The contemporary Chinese artistknown for pushing boundariesused 650,000 LEGO bricks in 22 different colors to reconstruct the image on a massive scale. Titled Water Lilies #1, this striking piece is part of Weiwei's upcoming exhibition Ai Weiwei: Making Sense opening at the Design Museum in London in April 2023.

Making Sense focuses on Weiwei's interest in design and architecture. In Water Lilies #1, he translates Monet's expressive brushstrokes into a pixelated depiction made up of geometric bricks. And while it may resemble an Impressionist piece from afar, closer inspection reveals that the organic forms are actually rendered with thousands and thousands of blocks, echoing the prevalence of digital art in the modern world. The total length of the piece measures 15 meters (a little over 42 feet), making it the largest LEGO artwork that Weiwei has ever made.

A key difference in Weiwei's Water Lilies #1 is the addition of a dark...

NYCs Flatiron Building Sells for a Whopping $190M "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

New York Citys iconic Flatiron Building, known for its distinctive wedge design that evokes the shape of a vintage clothes iron, sold for $190 million at auction yesterday, March 22. Earlier this month, the New York State Supreme Court determined that the building would be sold to the highest bidder to resolve the irreconcilable differences between its five former stakeholders. Four of the owners sued for a partition auction in a last-ditch effort to boot the fifth owner, Nathan Silverstein, who was reportedly blocking renovations for the building that has sat unoccupied since 2019.

But the auction took an unexpected turn yesterday when an outsider bidder named Jacob Garlick of the investment firm Abraham Trust priced out former stakeholder Jeffrey Gural.

While the Flatiron Building was open to anyone who could pony up the cash through a public auction, Gural of GFP Real Estate and the other thre...

Worlds Largest Bat Species Is the Size of a Human Child "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Worlds Largest Bat Species Is the Size of a Human Child

In 2020, Twitter user @AlexJoestar622 set the internet on fire when he posted a photo of what looked like a human-size bat in the Philippines. While many were quick to call the photo fake, it's since been confirmed to be real and shows a giant golden-crowned flying fox (Acerodon jubatus). Also known as a golden-capped fruit bat, this endangered species is one of the largest bats in the world and is endemic to the Philippines. Classified as a megabat, these flying foxes can weigh up to three pounds with a wingspan of up to five and a half feet.

While the Twitter photo isn't fake, it does make the bat appear a bit larger than it really is. That's due to forced perspective, which is a common illusion used in photography. Often used in fantasy films to play with our idea of scale, this technique can make objects appear larger by placing them closer to the camera. So while the bat seems frighteningly large on Twitter, it's not quite that big.

Still, anyone would probably jump if they turned the corner and saw this bat snoozing in their garage. Luckily, giant golden-crowned flying foxes really have no interest in humans. Their diet primarily consists of figs and leaves. As with most bats, they go out foraging at night and then sleep during the day. They can live anywhere from 10 to 30 years in the wild. Little is known about their reproduction, except that females give birth to one pup at a time. It's also suspected that they only have one litter a year.

Given their size, it would likely take a large predator to take down this flying fox. In fact, its main predators are large birds of prey like eagles. They are also hunted by reticulated pythons and, unfortunately, humans who use them for their bushmeat. This act, as well as deforestation, are two of the biggest challenges that the giant golden-crowned flying fox faces.

The giant golden-crowned flying fox was placed on the IUCN Red List in...

In His Largest LEGO Work Yet, Ai Weiwei Recreates One of Claude Monets Most Famous Paintings "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Ai Weiwei, Water Lilies #1 (2022), LEGO. All images the artist, shared with permission courtesy of Galleria Continua. All photos by Ela Bialkowska/OKNO Studio

Known for incorporating recognizable, everyday objects into monumental sculptures, Ai Weiwei (previously) has created acclaimed installations using bicycles, life vests, and seeds and flowers made of porcelain that often challenge political issues such as the social unrest of his native China, the global refugee crisis, and themes of liberty and freedom of speech. Since 2014, he has utilized LEGO as a medium but not without some controversy along the way due to the political nature of his work. Now, Ai has completed his largest LEGO piece to date in a recreation of Water Lilies, one of French Impressionist artist Claude Monets most iconic artworks.

Monets Water Lilies series was inspired by the artists garden in Giverny, France, featuring a foot bridge over a pond teeming with wildlife. This idyllic setting was the design and creation of Monet himself, who at the turn of the 20th century had the nearby River Epte partially diverted in order to bring his vision to life. An Introverts Field Guide to Friendship: Thoreau on the Challenges and Rewards of the Art of Connection "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

We only need to be as true to others as we are to ourselves that there may be ground enough for friendship.

Friendship is the sunshine of life the quiet radiance that makes our lives not only livable but worth living. (This is why we must use the utmost care in how we wield the word friend.) In my own life, friendship has been the lifeline for my darkest hours of despair, the magnifying lens for my brightest joys, the quiet pulse-beat beneath the daily task of living. You can glean a great deal about a person from the constellation of friends around the gravitational pull of their personhood. Whatever our degree of friends may be, we come more under their influence than we are aware, the trailblazing astronomer Maria Mitchell observed as she contemplated how we co-create each other and recreate ourselves in friendship. Her friend Ralph Waldo Emerson whom she taught to look through a telescope believed that all true friendship rests on two pillars. In his own life, he put the theory into practice in his friendship with his young protg Henry David Thoreau (July 12, 1817May 6, 1862) a solitary and achingly introverted person himself, who thought deeply and passionately about the rewards and challenges of friendship.

Charming Animal Portraits of Farm-ilies Across North America "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Charming Animal Portraits of Farm-ilies Across North America

Farm Animal Photography by Tasha Hall

When living on a farm, animals are more than just companions, they're also part of the family. British Columbia-based photographer Tasha Hall captures this special bond in her Farmily series of portraits, which feature the horses, dogs, chickens, and other animals from farms across North America.

In each of these charming photos, the inhabitants of the farm pose together in a formal portrait set against the backdrop of the scenic places they call home. Hall manages to wrangle animals of different kinds together and bring out their unique personalities. The farm portraits started quite by accident. I wanted to create our own farm portrait as a Christmas card, back in 2014. I put some of our animals together with my husband and daughter and the first image was created, she tells My Modern Met. A year later, I did it again but added in all of our farm animals at the time, horses, dogs, cats, chickens, ducks etc. I posted the portrait on Facebook and it went crazy from there. People started asking me if I could create something like it for them. The rest is history.

Through Farmily, we get glimpses of the many different types of farm families. Almost every one of these groups includes at least one dog; some feature multiple horses, goats, or pigs; and there are some that feature less-seen animals like alpacas. Sometimes the human family members join in, but in most cases, the animals are the stars. My dream is to travel the world and capture beautiful Farmily images for people all over the place, and eventually write a book of farms around the world, Hall adds.

You can learn more about Hall via her website, and keep up to date with her latest projects by following her Instagram.

People Are Sharing Relationship Green Flags That Are Positive Ways to Form Healthy Bonds

Green Flags in Relationships

Photo: Peus/Depositphotos

When dating, we often focus on someones red flags, or things that give us pause about a person. (Think of behavior such as trash talking their ex.) Its important to recognize these characteristics, but its also worth noting the green flags that are also there. Green flags are the opposite of red flags and are the thoughtful things that someone does to indicate they're worthy of our time. They are also healthy relationship habits that someone has, such as good communication skills.

Green flags are different for everyone, but essentially, theyre characteristics that make us feel better and not worse. Green flags are positive indicators that a connection has the potential to flourish into a safe, healthy, lasting relationship, explains Shanita Brown, Ph.D. Theyre a good sign that youre compatible with that person and can form a healthy bond.

So, what are some green flags to look for? People across the internet are sharing their opinions. A Reddit thread asking for instant green flags got a lot of responses. They arent earth-shattering, but they're definitely things you dont find in everyone you meet.

Consistency was one green flag. Not having to wonder if he likes you or not, said one Redditor. It feels natural and you dont have to wait 1000 years to reply to text. Another shared...

On Paper: An Interview with Thomas Demand "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

Courtesy of Thomas Demand and MACK.

The Review has long been a fan of Thomas Demands work; our Spring 2015 issue featured a portfolio of his paper sculptures of cherry blossoms. His series The Dailies recreates quotidian objects and images: a coffee cup, a tray of cigarette butts. Only tiny flaws (pencil markings, tape) reveal them as constructions; otherwise his compositions are stripped of everything but their form. But paper isnt just a blank canvas; it also carries meaning, even if these associations are subtle: its the medium of office workers, receipts, menus, greeting cards, origami, newspapersand, of course, of The Paris Review. To accompany a selection of images from The Dailies, we talked to Demand about paper, literature, and the home.

INTERVIEWER

What does paper mean in your work?

THOMAS DEMAND

Paper is a formidable, malleable material that everyone touches on a daily basis. We all share this experiencewe know its haptic and aesthetic possibilities more than perhaps anything else. We mostly use paper for temporary purposesnapkins, newspaper, coffee cups, the Amazon box, and so on. We make notes on it and throw it away, wrap our gifts in it and rip it to receive them. I find that important to consider, if I look at the more commonplace iconography in my work, like in The Dailies. Im also interested in papers relations to information, model-making, and geometry.

Thats the one trouble with this country: everything, weather, all, hangs on too long, William Faulkner wrote of his native Mississippi in his novel As I Lay Dying. Like our rivers, our land: opaque, slow, violent; shaping and creating the life of man in its implacable and brooding image. There came a day when, as a reader of Faulkner, I wanted to see what he was talking about. If the tendency of things in Mississippi was to hang on too long, as Faulkner claimed, maybe the populace and the landscape would be more or less the same as theyd been when he wrote those lines in 1930. The drive from Brooklyn to his house, Rowan Oak, in Oxford, Mississippi, was seventeen hours.

Five hours in, I made a pit stop at an abolitionist holy site: the federal armory at Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. John Browns raid on the armory, in October 1859, was one of the proximate causes of the Civil War. It enraged a plantation-owning class already frightened of northern agitators. I want to free all the negroes in this state, he said, referring to Virginia, where half a million people were enslaved. His plan was to seize guns and hand them out to men in the nearby fields, fomenting rebellion. With twenty-one followers, he stormed the armory and held parts of it for two days before U.S. marines flushed him out. All thats left of the armory, mostly destroyed in the subsequent war, is the fire-engine house, which happened to be Browns final redoubt. He was captured there, and then taken to prison, tried, and hanged. I stood in the house; its the size of a two-car garage, dwarfed by the green, misty mountains that surround it. It drove home how tiny Browns force was, for it to have been able to fit inside such a small placehow inadequate to his stated task.

In Faulkners novella ...

Bridal Shop Unveils Gorgeous Disney Princess Wedding Dresses To Make Dreams Come True "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Bridal Shop Unveils Gorgeous Disney Princess Wedding Dresses To Make Dreams Come True

Disney Wedding Dress

Inspired by Cinderella

Many children have dreamed of being Disney Princessesglamorous gowns and all. And now, thanks to Allure Bridals, their adult selves can make that childhood fantasy a reality by way of its Disney Fairy Tale wedding dresses. The collection has gorgeous gowns inspired by Ariel, Aurora, Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Rapunzel, Snow White, and Tiana. Each dress, and its corresponding Disney Princess, evoke the spirit of the character its emulating, whether that's through the surface details or silhouette of the dress.

The 2023 Disney Fairy Tale wedding dresses are the fourth collaboration between Allure Bridal and Disney. This fact challenges designers to make each gown unique and different from previous years. Its also Disneys centennial, which added some pressure to create show-stopping designs.

To do this, designers emphasized the little details that make an overall big impact on the dress, such as beading and lace appliqus. Although the styles lean towards classic, Allure Bridals was sure to incorporate trends including voluminous sleeves, asymmetrical necklines, and high-quality fabrics sans lace or other embellishments.

While inspired by the Disney Princesses, the collection is first and foremost beautiful dresses that arent overtly Disney. In other words, you dont have to be a Disney adult to appreciate and want to rock these gowns. They are meant for anyone who wants to feel like a princess on their wedding day.

The gowns are available in sizes 0 to 30 and come with a price tag ranging from $1,799 to $10,000. View the entire collection on the Allure Bridals website.

Aman Khannas Clever Clay Characters Exude Universal Expressions of Tenderness and Emotion "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Abstract faces made from clay that portray various emotions.

All images Aman Khanna, shared with permission

With a background in graphic design and illustration, New Delhi-based artist Aman Khanna has always had a knack for expressing human emotions and experiences in his quirky, playful personalities. Over time, he yearned to build something three-dimensional with his hands as a way to complement his predominantly digital, two-dimensional process of graphic design. An opportunity to explore this new direction arose when he attended the 2013 Pictoplasma Academy, an annual character art conference in Berlin.

Khanna experimented with shaping clay for the first time as he prepared for the Pictoplasma group show, and he hasnt looked back. I began to create small clay sculptures that were inspired by human feelings, emotions, and interactions, he says, sharing that he enjoys working with the material because of its ancient history and connection to the earth. The fact that it can be moulded into any shape or form is fascinating to me.

The figures, which he calls Claymen, portray a spectrum of expressions inspired by the intricacies of the human condition. Some sport legs and arms or participate in activities like scuba diving and relaxing with friends, while others simplified, disc-like faces depict a range of feelings. The emotions evoked in us through our actions, reactions, and how we interact with one another has led me to understand how fragile we are, he says, and I find that clay allows me to communicate that.

Khanna works alongside a team of 15 assistants in the Claymen studio, and you can find more of his work on his...

The look on the face of Boris Johnsons lawyer as he gave evidence is quite the watch "IndyWatch Feed Satire"

All eyes were on Boris Johnson on Wednesday as he gave his long-awaited evidence to the Commons Partygate inquiry.

Well, not all eyes. Some of them were trained on the former PMs lawyer, (Lord) David Pannick QC, one of the countrys most in-demand lawyers (read all about him here).

Anyway, we mention him because the look on his face was quite the watch, as captured by the eagled-eyed wife of @thehistoryguy himself, Dan Snow.

Heres how the Guardians sketch writer John Crace described Pannick back in 2019.

Pannick exudes a sense of calm and has the uncanny ability to make you think you understand legal double-speak even when you dont.

A Pannick attack is a thing of zen-like beauty. In his hands, a legal submission is more a cosy bedside story than adversarial confrontation.

Maybe he just remembered hed left the oven on.

Do you ever wake up all bundled up in bed on a chilly morning and think to yourself, Ahh, I'm just like a burrito? Well, now you can take that thought one step further with an actual blanket that looks like a giant tortilla. This Burrito Tortilla Blanket will make you feel like your favorite snack while watching TV, laying in bed, or whenever you please.

However, don't let the look of this creative blanket fool youit's super soft to the touch and will keep you cozy while adding a fun touch to your nights in. To make it even more realistic, the blanket is printed on both sides.

The blanket comes in a wide range of sizes, from 47 to 80 inches, in case you want to share your place in a burrito with someone else. If wrapping yourself in a tortilla is not your thing, there are also cookie, waffle, and pizza blankets available. Although those options are great for paying tribute to amazing dishes, nothing beats the humor behind literally being a human burrito.

It's softer than I thought it would be and oddly enough, the circular shape makes it super versatile for wrapping over shoulders or using as a lap blanketextra length on rounded edges means your toes don't stick out, writes one reviewer. Another satisfied customer writes, It is a great investment for anyone who wants to add...
