The links between pollution and miscarriage: 'This is the stuff nightmares are made of' "IndyWatch Feed Fertility"

The world we live in is slowly poisoning every single one of us. And the chemicals doing the most damage are byproducts of the fossil fuel industry, agribusiness and manufacturing. There doesn't seem to be the appetite at a regulatory or governmental level to stop it. In Australia, 50,000 agricultural, industrial and veterinary chemicals are being used; 1,500 are suspected to interfere with endocrine function, which is essential to the healthy working of our reproductive and hormonal systems. Only a very small number have been tested. Microplastics, which can cause inflammation in the body, is being found in our blood streams and also in the placentas of unborn fetuses. Walking down a major intersection during rush hour can expose you to as much particulate matter as a major bushfire event. Even if chemicals are tested, the testing regimen means that chemicals are only being tested in isolation and not in conjunction with others to see how compounds react. Also, they might be tested for carcinogenic effects ... but the test subjects aren't monitored for other ill-effects, such as endocrine disruption. Some effects take place long after the research has concluded. Some of these chemicals can stay in the body forever. Or affect the way our DNA functions. Theres even an Australian website (not widely enough publicised) called yourfertility.org.au. It has an entire section on chemicals in our environment and what to avoid, stating that avoiding these chemicals may increase the chance of having a baby.

After 20 Years, the Department of Homeland Security Is a Money-Guzzling Failure "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

In March 2003, the newly christened Department of Homeland Security, or DHS, opened its doors. The department took everything from immigration enforcement and counterterrorism to airport security and disaster response under one gargantuan bureaucracy. Despite these wide-ranging missions, the department's unifying logic in the post 9/11 era has been to wage the so-called war on terror at home. The result has been systemic abuse of minority communities, a dangerous militarization of American life, and a massive waste of money that sapped resources from addressing the real threats to our homeland. DHS agencies have militarized U.S. streets, sending officers in tactical gear to respond to civilian protests and conducting surveillance of U.S. citizens engaged in constitutionally protected activities. There are stories of DHS drones surveilling Indigenous water and land protectors and DHS forces spying on Black Lives Matter protesters. DHS even monitored journalists who reported on the department's tactics. None of these abuses have come cheap. Since its founding in 2003, the U.S. has spent $1.4 trillion on the agency. That's more than seven times what the government spent over the same period on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), including the CDC's COVID-19 pandemic responseand more than five times more than on the Environmental Protection Agency. The [DHS] was supposed to be about making the U.S. safer. But it has failed.

Note: A thorough investigation reveals details on the DHS "Disinformation Governance Board," an unsuccessful effort in 2022 to police online speech it considers inaccurate and dangerous. Now, the DHS board and its key subcommittees are undergoing sweeping changes as public concern grows over social media censorship and government overreach.

US courts must stop shielding government surveillance programs from accountability "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Under a post-9/11 surveillance program known as "Upstream", the NSA is systematically searching Americans' internet communications as they enter and leave the United States. The agency sifts through these streams of data looking for "identifiers" associated with its many thousands of foreign targets identifiers like email addresses and phone numbers. The NSA does all of this without warrants, without any individual judicial approval, and without showing that any of the people it is surveilling including countless Americans have done anything wrong. This surveillance raises serious constitutional concerns, but no court has ever considered a legal challenge to it because the government has claimed that allowing a suit against Upstream surveillance to go forward would implicate "state secrets". In 2007, for example, an appeals court dismissed a lawsuit filed by Khaled El-Masri claiming that, in a case of mistaken identity, he had been kidnapped and tortured by the CIA. The court acknowledged the public evidence of El-Masri's mistreatment but held that state secrets were too central to the case to allow it to go forward. And in 2010, a different appeals court dismissed a lawsuit filed by five individuals who claimed that one of Boeing's subsidiary companies had flown the planes carrying them to the black sites where they were tortured by the CIA. This use of the state secrets privilege to dismiss cases departs from the supreme court's narrow framing of the privilege.

A Four-Decade Secret: One Man's Story of Sabotaging Carter's Re-election "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

It has been more than four decades, but Ben Barnes said he remembers it vividly. His longtime political mentor invited him on a mission to the Middle East. What Mr. Barnes said he did not realize until later was the real purpose of the mission: to sabotage the re-election campaign of the president of the United States. It was 1980 and Jimmy Carter was in the White House, bedeviled by a hostage crisis in Iran that had paralyzed his presidency and hampered his effort to win a second term. Mr. Carter's best chance for victory was to free the 52 Americans held captive before Election Day. That was something that Mr. Barnes said his mentor was determined to prevent. His mentor was John B. Connally Jr., a titan of American politics. Now Mr. Connally resolved to help Mr. Reagan beat Mr. Carter. What happened next Mr. Barnes has largely kept secret for nearly 43 years. Mr. Connally, he said, took him to one Middle Eastern capital after another that summer, meeting with a host of regional leaders to deliver a blunt message to be passed to Iran: Don't release the hostages before the election. Mr. Reagan will win and give you a better deal. Mr. Connally's files indicated that he did, in fact, leave Houston on July 18, 1980, for a trip that would take him to Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Israel before returning to Houston on Aug. 11. Iran did hold the hostages until after the election, which Mr. Reagan won, and did not release them until minutes after noon on Jan. 20, 1981, when Mr. Carter left office.

Facial recognition bias frustrates Black asylum applicants to US, advocates say "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The US government's new mobile app for migrants to apply for asylum at the US-Mexico border is blocking many Black people from being able to file their claims because of facial recognition bias in the tech, immigration advocates say. The app, CBP One, is failing to register many people with darker skin tones, effectively barring them from their right to request entry into the US. People who have made their way to the south-west border from Haiti and African countries, in particular, are falling victim to apparent algorithm bias in the technology that the app relies on. The government announced in early January that the new CBP One mobile app would be the only way migrants arriving at the border can apply for asylum and exemption from Title 42 restrictions. Racial bias in face recognition technology has long been a problem. Increasingly used by law enforcement and government agencies to fill databases with biometric information including fingerprints and iris scans, a 2020 report by Harvard University called it the "least accurate" identifier, especially among darker-skinned women with whom the error rate is higher than 30%. Emmanuella Camille, a staff attorney with the Haitian Bridge Alliance ... said the CBP One app has helped "lighter-skin toned people from other nations" obtain their asylum appointments "but not Haitians" and other Black applicants. Besides the face recognition technology not registering them ... many asylum seekers have outdated cellphones if they have cellphones at all that don't support the CBP One app.

U.S. Hardware Is Fueling Russia's Facial Recognition Crackdown on Anti-War Dissidents "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Russia has been using cameras powered by facial recognition systems to crackdown on dissidents, according to reporting from Reuters. Several Russian companies are using algorithms trained and powered by chips made by U.S. firms Intel and Nvidia. Reuters said that one of the companies even received money from U.S. intelligence. On March 4, 20022a week after it launched its full scale invasion of UkraineRussia made it illegal to publicly criticize the war. The report from Reuters details how facial recognition software has aided the Kremlin in its crackdown against dissidents. There are more than 160,000 cameras in Moscow and 3,000 of them are connected to facial recognition software. According to Moscow court records, the technology has aided in the arrest of hundreds of protestors. In one case, a man stood alone near a fountain in Pushkin Square with a home-made poster that said "Peace to Ukraine." A week later he was boarding a subway when police ushered him into their station and explained that the computer system had recognized his face. The software powering the [system] was created by three companies: NtechLab, VisonLabs, and Tevian. Tevian and NtechLab are based in Moscow, while VisionLabs is based in the Netherlands. According to Reuters, the companies used chips designed by Intel and Nvidia to train their systems. It also reported that one of the firms joined a U.S. facial recognition test program and received $40,000 in prize money from "an arm of U.S. intelligence."

Note: Tools of centralized power continue to support warmongering agendas, with US-based tech companies controversially supplying facial recognition technology to Ukraine and now to Russia, despite the US deeming Russia as the enemy. Big oil on campus: how US universities are 'colonized' by the fossil-fuel industry "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Even as elite American universes such as Harvard have bowed to pressure to divest their multibillion-dollar endowments from fossil fuels, and student activists take recalcitrant holdouts to court, oil and gas companies continue to exert a grip upon campus life, through funded research and the physical presence of oil and gas industry employees in lectures and meetings with faculty. Fossil-fuel firms have purposely sought to "colonize" academia with industry-friendly science, rather than seed overt climate denial, according to Ben Franta, a senior research fellow at the University of Oxford who has studied industry's influence over universities. Their research dollars, he said, had effectively discouraged academic endeavors that challenge the core business model of burning oil and gas, instead shifting the focus to favored topics such as capturing carbon emissions from polluting facilities, a still niche technology that would allow industry to continue business as usual. The reach of fossil fuels into academia "never ceases to amaze me", said Robert Brulle, an environmental sociologist at Brown University. "You can barely study climate change at elite universities and not be funded by fossil-fuel companies," he added. "They drive all this study into carbon capture, so that influences policy and becomes a part of the Biden administration's agenda. The influence is profound, and the students are right to be wondering what kind of education they are getting here."

Federal Agencies Are Still Using Our Phones as Tracking Beacons "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Recent reports about the Secret Service and Immigration and Customs Enforcement playing fast and loose with rules regarding cellphone tracking and the FBI purchasing phone location data from commercial sources constitute an important wake-up call. They remind us that those handy mobile devices many people tote around are the most cost-effective surveillance system ever invented. "The United States Secret Service and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations (ICE HSI) did not always adhere to Federal statute and cellsite simulator (CSS) policies when using CSS during criminal investigations," the Department of Homeland Security's Office of the Inspector General reported last month. "Separately, ICE HSI did not adhere to Department privacy policies and the applicable Federal privacy statute when using CSS." The OIG report referred to the use of what is commonly called "stingray" technologydevices that simulate cellphone towers and trick phones within range into connecting and revealing their location. "They also gather information about the phones of countless bystanders who happen to be nearby," the ACLU warns. Even the most precise phone company location data remains available with court approval. The courts are currently mulling multiple cases involving "geofence warrants" whereby law enforcement seeks data not on individuals, but on whoever was carrying a device in a designated area at a specified time.

Geofencing Warrants Are a Threat to Privacy "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The House committee investigating the events of January 6, 2021, is nearly finished. Nearly 900 ... criminal prosecutions of alleged rioters remain underway, and one case has shed troubling new light on how the FBI investigated these defendants. The suspect's name is David Rhine. His lawyer is the first to present a potentially successful challenge to the geofencing warrant the FBI used to place some defendants inside the Capitol building during the attack. A previous Wired report last year found 45 federal criminal cases citing the warrant, which required Google to provide the FBI with data on devices using its location services inside a set geographic area. Rhine's case has revealed just how expansive the FBI's request to Google really was. Google initially listed 5,723 devices in response to the warrant, then whittled the tally to exclude likely Capitol staff and police as well as anyone who wasn't "entirely within the geofence, to about a 70 percent probability." The final list of identifying details handed over to the FBI had 1,535 names. It included people whose phones had been turned off or put in airplane mode, and "people who attempted to delete their location data following the attacks were singled out by the FBI for greater scrutiny." It's ... easy to envision geofencing warrants undergoing the usual surveillance mission creep. Left unchecked, law enforcement could decide geofence data would come in handy while looking for a journalist's whistleblowing source, or perhaps at political protests.

Air Force paid $1,280 apiece for coffee cups "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The US Air Force is facing more questions as to why it spent tens of thousands of dollars over the last three years on large cups that can reheat beverages, like coffee or tea, on refueling tankers and cargo aircraft during flight. Despite being assured by Air Force Secretary Dr. Heather Wilson earlier this month that the service has "suspended its purchasing of the exorbitantly priced cups," Sen. Chuck Grassley sent a follow-up letter last week asking for further explanation as to why they were purchased in the first place. Grassley raised the issue of the cups in an October 2 letter to Wilson after reports surfaced this summer that the 60th Ariel Port Squadron at Travis Air Force Base had spent $1,280 on each cup in 2018 a dramatic increase from the $693 per-cup price in 2016. In her response to that letter, Wilson said the Air Force has spent $326,785 on nearly 400 cups since 2016 an average of $817. "You are right to be concerned about the high costs of spare parts, and I remain thankful to have your support in addressing this problem," Wilson told the senator in a letter dated October 17. The increasing cost of the cups was first reported ... in July as part of a report on how airmen at Travis Air Force Base are attempting to use 3D printing to develop a cost-effective way to replace the cups' plastic handles, which have a tendency to break. "Unfortunately, when dropped, the handle breaks easily leading to the expenditure of several thousand dollars to replace the cup as replacement parts are not available," the Air Force said.

Meet the 'glass-half-full girl' whose brain rewired after losing a hemisphere "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

In most people, speech and language live in the brain's left hemisphere. Mora Leeb is not most people. When she was 9 months old, surgeons removed the left side of her brain. Yet at 15, Mora plays soccer, tells jokes, gets her nails done, and, in many ways, lives the life of a typical teenager. "I can be described as a glass-half-full girl," she says, pronouncing each word carefully and without inflection. Her slow, cadence-free speech is one sign of a brain that has had to reorganize its language circuits. Yet to a remarkable degree, Mora's right hemisphere has taken on jobs plasticity, the process that allows a brain to modify its connections to adapt to new circumstances. People like Mora represent the upper bounds of human brain plasticity because their brains were radically altered very early in life a period when the wiring is still a work in progress. During an interview with Mora, both her abilities and deficits were apparent. So was her outgoing personality and curiosity about the world. Mora began by telling me a joke: "How do you make a hot dog stand?" she asks. "You take away its chair." What scientists still want to know is precisely what allowed Mora's brain to rewire so extensively. One thing is clear: Understanding the basis of this sort of extreme plasticity, they say, could help millions of people whose brains are still trying to recover from a stroke, tumor, or traumatic injury. And Mora is helping scientists deepen their understanding, simply by being herself.

A fish can sense another's fear, a study shows "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Our capacity to care about others may have very, very ancient origins, a new study suggests. It might have been deep-rooted in prehistoric animals that lived millions of years ago, before fish and mammals like us diverged on the tree of life, according to researchers who published their study Thursday in the journal Science. Scientists are usually reluctant to attribute humanlike feelings to animals. But it's generally accepted that many animals have moods, including fish. The new study shows that fish can detect fear in other fish, and then become afraid too and that this ability is regulated by oxytocin, the same brain chemical that underlies the capacity for empathy in humans. The researchers demonstrated this by deleting genes linked to producing and absorbing oxytocin in the brains of zebrafish. Those fish were then essentially antisocial they failed to detect or change their behavior when other fish were anxious. But when some of the altered fish received oxytocin injections, their ability to sense and mirror the feelings of other fish was restored what scientists call "emotional contagion." "They respond to other individuals being frightened. In that regard, they behave just like us," said ... neuroscientist Ibukun Akinrinade, a co-author of the study. The study also showed that zebrafish will pay more attention to fish that have previously been stressed out a behavior the researchers likened to consoling them. Previous research has shown that oxytocin plays a similar role in transmitting fear in mice.

Psychedelic brew ayahuasca's profound impact revealed in brain scans "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The brew is so potent that practitioners report not only powerful hallucinations, but near-death experiences, contact with higher-dimensional beings, and life-transforming voyages through alternative realities. Often before throwing up, or having trouble at the other end. Now, scientists have gleaned deep insights of their own by monitoring the brain on DMT, or dimethyltryptamine, the psychedelic compound found in Psychotria viridis, the flowering shrub that is mashed up and boiled in the Amazonian drink, ayahuasca. The recordings reveal a profound impact across the brain, particularly in areas that are highly evolved in humans and instrumental in planning, language, memory, complex decision-making and imagination. The regions from which we conjure reality become hyperconnected, with communication more chaotic, fluid and flexible. "It is incredibly potent," said Robin Carhart-Harris, a professor of neurology and psychiatry. "People describe leaving this world and breaking through into another that is incredibly immersive and richly complex, sometimes being populated by other beings that they feel might hold special power over them, like gods." He added: "DMT breaks down the basic networks of the brain, causing them to become less distinct from each other. The major rhythms of the brain that serve a largely inhibitory, constraining function break down, and in concert, brain activity becomes more entropic or information-rich."

Mercury: The Messenger of the Gods

Mercury is the divine communicator, a channel between the mortal and immortal worlds. In mythology, Mercury was considered the Messenger of the Gods and could pass down insights and information from the heavens.

Mercury rules over our mind, third eye, thoughts, and communication style. At times, it can have a playful, trickster energy that can influence our experience with technology, travel, and contracted agreements.

Mercury enters retrograde about four times a year, making it a normal part of its cycle through the cosmic skies. When Mercury enters retrograde, we may find communication a little more challenging. We could find it difficult to make decisions, or experience issues with technologies, travel, or contracts.

Ancient astrologers believed that when Mercury was retrograde, it traveled through the underworld, collecting lost, hidden, or untapped messages from deep within our subconscious.

For this reason, it is recommended to wait before signing contracts, having important conversations, or making travel plans until Mercury emerges from its journey, as upon its return from the underworld, it could have brought new information, changing how we feel and, consequently, our plans.

How to Use the Energy of Mercury Retrograde

While Mercury is moving through the underworld, it is a good time to slow down, go back over things, revisit the past, and pay attention to subconscious thoughts and programming. Mercury retrograde can be a healing and highly intuitive time when we use it this way.

Mercury Retrograde can also trigger our psychic abilities, guiding us to step away from the information in our seen world and instead rely on the information in the unseen world.

Our dreams may also become more prophetic at this time or give us deeper insights into our subconscious. (If you want to work deeper with your dreams during Mercury Retrograde, check out this workbook!)

Mercury Retrograde tends to have a negative reputation, but everything is neutral in astrology. Its what we make the of the energy and how we choose to use it.

While Mercury Retrograde may not be considered favorable to sign long-term contracts, purchase expensive travel tickets, or buy a new computer...

CleanSpark Reports 22% Increase In Bitcoin Mined For Q1 2023 And Provides Washington Expansion Update "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The company continues to grow its hash rate, with a Washington expansion set to facilitate 86MW of mining capacity.

CleanSpark, Inc. has released its unaudited Bitcoin mining and operations update for March, 2023. The company announced that it had mined 598 BTC in March, taking the total mined in the first quarter of the calendar year to 1,871, up 22% from the previous quarter. CleanSpark funded growth and operations through the sale of 502 bitcoin in March 2023, which equated to proceeds of approximately $12.4 million, at an average of approximately $24,800 per BTC.

"Our approach to proprietary mining gives us substantial control and flexibility over our destiny, and the progress on our Washington expansion is a perfect example," said Zach Bradford, CEO of CleanSpark. "The 50MW expansion is on schedule. The machines have already been purchased and shipping is expected to commence this month. Once those machines are racked and the expansion is energized, our hashrate is expected to increase to about 8.7 EH/s, giving us substantial progress toward our calendar year-end goal of 16 EH/s."

CleanSpark's Washington expansion is a passively cooled data center consisting of four primary buildings. The expansion is expected to hold about 15,000 Antminer S19j Pro+ machines once complete, with total capacity in Washington amounting to 86MW, with the majority sourced from low-carbon, on-grid energy. According to the press release, Building 1 is complete and ready for miners, with racks currently being installed in Building 2. The foundation was recently poured for Building 3, while concrete deliveries are imminent for Building 4.

"We are on schedule in Washington," said Scott Garrison, vice president of business development. "One building is completely done and ready for miners, with the other buildings in various stages of construction, each advancing according to schedule. Our teams and partners, which include the utility, city, and various construction firms, are working hand-in-hand for the build. Im so proud of what we are accomplishing on the ground in Washington as we work to build some of the most efficient bitcoin mining infrastructure in North America."

According to the press release, CleanSpark intends to use all capital levers available, including equity and bitcoin, carefully balancing both to provide the highest rate of return for shareholders.

"In this environment, a miner that is not growing is falling behind. As hashrate grows, we also need to grow. Growth takes substantial capital, just as it does in any commodities-ba...

On Mary Wollstonecraft "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

Detail from John Opies portrait of Mary Wollstonecraft, 17901. Public domain.

Around the time I realized I didnt want to be married anymore, I started visiting Mary Wollstonecrafts grave. Id known it was there, behind Kings Cross railway station, for at least a decade. I had read her protofeminist tract from 1792, A Vindication of the Rights of Woman, at university, and I knew Saint Pancras Churchyard was where Wollstonecrafts daughter, also Mary, had taken the married poet Percy Bysshe Shelley when they were falling in love. When I thought about the place, I thought of death and sex and possibility. I rst visited at thirty-four, newly separated, on a cold gray day with a lover, daodils rising around the squat cubic pillar. MARY WOLLSTONECRAFT GODWIN, the stone reads. Author of A Vindication of the rights of Woman. Born 27th April, 1759. Died 10th September, 1797. I didnt tell him why I wanted to go there; I had a sense that Wollstonecraft would understand, and I often felt so lost that I didnt want to talk to real people, people I wanted to love me rather than pity me, people I didnt want to scare. I was often scared. I was frequently surprised by my emotions, by the things I suddenly needed to do or say that surged up out of nowhere.

Unexpected events had brought me graveside: when I was thirty-two, my fifty-seven-year-old mother was diagnosed with Alzheimers. It wasnt genetic; no one knew why she got it. We would, the doctors said, have three to nine more years with her. Everything wobbled. This knowledge raised questions against every part of my life: Was this worth it? And this? And this? I was heading for children in the suburbs with the husband Id met at nineteen, but that life, the one that so many people want, I doubted was right for me. I was trying to nd my way as a writer, but I was jumping from genre to genre, not working out what I most wanted to say, and not taking myself seriously enough to discover it, even. Who do you tell when you start to feel these things? Everything seemed immovable. Everything seemed impossible. And yet I knew I had to change my life....

The Other Art Fair is set to return to Chicago from April 27 to 30, showcasing its annual weekend of independent art, workshops, and community-driven exhibitions.

The fairs signature series has been running since 2011 with local editions held in London, Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, and Sydney. Presented by Saatchi Art, The Other Art Fair aims to break down the stuffy and tired gallery art scene, making the art marketplace accessible to both independent artists and local communities. Each fair features more than 100 independent and emerging artists and offers art at nearly every price point. It also combines art with live performances, immersive installations, food trucks from popular local vendors, and a bar, creating a lively neighborhood open house art party atmosphere rather than the typical expos.

Blockware Solutions Launches ASIC Marketplace To Simplify Bitcoin Mining Access "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The new marketplace enables customers interested in acquiring hash rate to easily compare different miner listings.

Blockware Solutions, a professional Bitcoin mining services company, has announced the public launch of its Blockware Marketplace. The new platform has been operating in stealth mode with only existing Blockware clients according to a press release sent to Bitcoin Magazine, and the total trading volume has already reached about $100,000, mostly within the last two weeks.

According to the announcement, the Blockware Marketplace is a product that brings transparency and "turnkey mining" to a whole new level by allowing anyone to buy an ASIC using either on-chain bitcoin or Lightning. Users can also see its historical and live hash rate before purchasing. Customers will be able to start earning bitcoin mining rewards in minutes, making it easier and more accessible for people to participate in the mining industry.

"We think this has the potential to transform the mining industry as now anyone can buy an ASIC (On-chain or Lightning), see its historical and live hashrate before purchasing, and be earning BTC mining rewards in minutes," said Joe Burnett, head analyst at Blockware.

The Blockware Marketplace is designed to simplify the process of buying and selling ASICs, as the screenshot above shows. The simple UI shows the stats of the miners, hosting information and price in BTC. An account sign up is required to utilize the marketplace, which is open to the public starting today.

Culture is represented in many ways, capturing the essence of a period, place, and presence. One way that cultures survive the passage of time is through physical items that hold symbolic meaning within them. Our visual culture is apparent in the things we wear, and jewelry is a time-honored part of this human tradition. The online shop Namik is sharing the Indigenous artisans whose work is the soul of Mexico. Its offerings are handcrafted by these creatives. The jewelry is inspired by a legend or belief from Mayan and Aztec cultures, and/or the personal storiesof self-love, success, and braveryabout the artisans themselves.

Namik, which is run by partners who wish to remain anonymous, views these tales as being an important component of the stores products. We believe that these stories and emotions are imbued in each piece of jewelry, making them amulets that remind us every day of the love and beauty that surrounds us, Namik tells My Modern Met. Our social mission is to preserve and share the history and culture of the Mayan and Aztec civilizations, as well as to empower Indigenous artisans from Mexico.

One of Namiks partners hails from a mining town in Mexico where countless families have earned a living creating silver jewelry. My father taught me this art form, just as his father taught him before, they write. Unfortunately, our community suffered the scourge of slavery for many years in the past, which has had a lasting impact on the dreams and aspirations of our people, especially regarding their artistic work. To remedy this, we are striving to teach them how to break away from this limiting mindset and instead promote a culture of collaboration and communal support, rather than one of competition.

IA Action Alert House Vote on SF 315 Support Raw Milk Sales "IndyWatch Feed Food"

Tell House Members to Vote YES for SF 315

Support Legal Raw Milk Sales in Iowa

Senate File 315 (SF 315), a bill that would legalize raw milk sales in Iowa has passed out of the Senate and is now before the full House for a vote, possibly as early as this Wednesday. Your support is critical in getting the bill through the House and on to the governors desk.

SF 315 would allow the sale of raw milk and raw milk products produced by the farm, if it has not more than 10 dairy animals actively producing milk at any one time, direct to consumers on the farm or through delivery. There are licensing and testing requirements, and those purchasing raw milk and raw milk products may not resell those foods. Farmers operating under the bill are exempt from regulation by the Iowa Department of Land Stewardship including any licensing, permitting or inspection requirements.

There are currently 45 states that allow the sale or distribution of raw milk; 38 states allow the sale or distribution for human consumption with another seven states allowing the sale for animal consumption. Iowa is clearly an outlier; state law currently prohibits any sale or distribution of raw milk. All states bordering Iowa allow the sale of raw milk. Now is a great opportunity to change that.

ACTION TO TAKE

1. Please use the House email address to ask ALL members of the House to vote YES on SF 315. Put in the subject line:  Please SUPPORT SF315 Raw Milk Bill to grab their attention.

Email: allrepresentatives@legis.iowa.gov

2. Follow up by phone asking your own House Representative to vote YES on SF 315. Profile links for House members are posted at

https://www.legis.iowa.gov/committees/committee?ga=90&groupID=694

To find your legislators, enter your address in the search field at https://www.legis.iowa.gov/legislators/find

The switchboard number 515-281-3221 is the same for each House member; so ask to speak to yours. If you reach their voicemail, please leave a message:

Like many people, photographer Marisa Ishimatsu was once afraid of snakes. But after a friend in college opened her eyes to the beauty of these reptiles, her fear dissipated and transformed into a creative passion. She began actively seeking out and photographing snakes over a decade ago, and her latest adventure brought her to Africa. There, together with fellow photographer Thor Hakonsen and several others, she set out on a mission to photograph all six species of adder found in Namibia.

The group spent 10 days scouring Namibia for these snakes. Thanks to a local guide's help, the group eventually tracked down and photographed all six species. This includes the Peringuey's adder, a sidewinding snake that expertly camouflages itself in the sands of the Namib Desert, and the Namaqua Dwarf adder, which is the world's smallest venomous snake.

For Ishimatsu, it's not only about photographing the animals, but exposing others to the ordinary habits of these snakes. I don't like to sensationalize them to something more frightening or more dramatic...

What the heck is sociogenomics? "IndyWatch Feed Fertility"

I was asked recently about sociogenomics, and I had to stop and think because I was unfamiliar with the word. At a guess, I thought it would about looking for correlations between genes and socioeconomic groups, ethnicities, and races using tools like genome wide association studies and polygenic scores you know, Bell Curve shit. To me, it sounded ominous and catastrophically bad, something that would shift into plain old eugenics and evolve into Nazi shit. But what do I know? I had to go look it up. I was just guessing.

Guess what? I guessed right.

Sociogenome is the comprehensive study of the role of genes and gene-environment (GxE) interaction on reproductive behaviour. Until now, social science research has focussed on socio-environmental explanations, largely neglecting the role of genes.

Drawing from recent unprecedented advances in molecular genetics we examine whether there is a genetic component to reproductive outcomes, including age at first birth, number of children and infertility and their interaction with the social environment.

Uh-oh. Theyre just going to take modern genetic techniques and apply them to sociology. But these techniques will not give them the answers they want! Theyll reveal rough correlations, but they wont untangle genetics and environmental factors they cant. This is a problem that has been pointed out to behavioral genetics researchers for years, and they just go sailing on ahead.

In the past decade and a half, sociologists and demographers have sought to integrate genetic data into their empirical analyses. To do so, they have drawn on recently developed high-throughput sequencing and genotyping technologies, which allow the entire genome to be mapped. They also follow in the line of a research specialty, behavioural genetics, which rose to prominence in the 1970s. This area, which focused notably on the genetic determination of intelligence, attracted severe criticisms, including among demographers (Jacquard, 1978; Vetta and Courgeau, 2003; Courgeau, 2017). However, these criticisms do not always seem to have been heard, and the emergence of new data and techniques has given rise to new problems, as indicated by calls for caution from learned societies in human genetics (Socit franaise de gntique humaine, 2010; Risch, 2016; Socit franaise de gntique humaine, 2018).

Lets look at an example of a sociogenomics study that was summarized in Wired. It does not reassure me.

The UK BioBank is the single largest public genetic repository in the world, with samples of the genetic blueprints of h...

Jukhee Kwon Revives Abandoned Books in Elaborate Paper Sculptures and Installations "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

An installation made from several old books with large draping chains of paper made from book pages.

In elaborate sculptures that range from a few inches to several feet, South Korean artist Jukhee Kwon explores the duality of destruction and recreation to give new life to abandoned books. Painstakingly manipulating old tomes by hand, she constructs intricate tendrils and chains of paper still attached to the spines, cutting between the lines so that the text remains legible and merges into new narratives.

Currently based in Italy, Kwon finds books published in Italian like Guerra e Paceor War and Peaceto provide the starting point for her work. In others, the title of the book is obscured completely by loops and curls of paper. The artist repetitively twists, ruffles, weaves, or links the pages, creating a variety of meshes and draping forms that cascade from the binding and vary greatly from one piece to the next. In Meditation, she incorporates the craft tradition of jong-i jeobi, the Korean word for origami, and the original marker ribbon provides a focal point in Red Circle Book.

Kwon suggests there are numerous ways to comprehend what we see. A flower could also be a medallion; a series of curtain-like columns mimics waterfalls; and woven webs form baskets or provide the shelter of nests. Paralleling the way great writing contains multiple layers of meaning, the artist is interested in exploring different interpretations, visualizing how thoughts and experiences metaphorically unfurl and blossom.

If youre in London, you can explore Kwons solo exhibition Liberated at...

With RGB, The Bitcoin Lightning Network Can Now Transfer Altcoin Assets "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

With the RGB protocol, users can allocate altcoins to Bitcoin UTXOs, enabling stablecoins transfers on the Lightning Network and more.

The Lightning Network is arguably the most impactful and important innovation ever seen in Bitcoin. It enables fast and cheap transactions that take up no space on the blockchain, while preserving all of Bitcoin's censorship-resistant and trustless features. While Lightning still has space to grow and improve, both in terms of technological stability and adoption, it has already proven to be an irreplaceable solution for cheap, trustless payments, with more than $100 million in network capacity and an ever-growing number of businesses adopting it as a payment method.

Such innovations favor the adoption of Bitcoin, but they can also be beneficial for other types of digital assets. Currently, most blockchain-based digital assets are issued as altcoins, which do not offer the same guarantees of security and censorship resistance as Bitcoin does, as they aim to achieve cheap, low-latency transactions by sacrificing decentralization, meaning that they operate as de facto semi-centralized systems. But with the ability to move digital assets over the Lightning Network, many use cases that require cheap and fast transactions could finally be able to benefit from Bitcoin's trustlessness as well.

One already popular use case that would certainly benefit from that would be stablecoins. Examples like USDT are already widely-used for digital payments and remittances, especially in developing countries where the legacy financial infrastructure is not always functional and the local currencies are volatile.

With Lightning, more and more people could adopt stablecoins and use them for payments. This would be beneficial in improving the financial stability of people otherwise forced to use a local currency that is (even) more unstable than the U.S. dollar, while also bringing them one step closer to adopting Bitcoin as they become familiar with its technology, even while they are still not comfortable with its volatility. Also, additional digital assets on Lightning would not only benefit the diffusion of stablecoins and other tokenization use cases, but they would simultaneously help Bitcoin itself, as more technologically-compatible infrastructure would be built (e.g., the payment terminal accepting stablecoins on Lightning would very easily also accept bitcoin).

Moreover, once there are stablecoins and ot...

Ryuichi Sakamoto, RIP: Watch Him Create Groundbreaking Electronic Music in 1984 "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Ryuichi Sakamoto was born and raised in Japan. He rose to prominence as a member of Yellow Magic Orchestra, the most influential Japanese band in pop-music history. Last week, he died in Japan. But he also claimed not to consider himself Japanese. That reflects the dedication of his lifes work as a composer and performer to cross-cultural inspiration, collaboration, and synthesis. How fitting that the announcement of his death this past weekend should elicit an outpouring of tributes from fans and colleagues around the world, sharing his work from a variety of different stylistic and technological periods in a variety of different languages.

Fitting, as well, that the first documentary made about Sakamoto as a solo artist should have been directed by a Frenchwoman, the photographer Elizabeth Lennard. Shot in 1984, Tokyo melody: un film sur Ryuichi Sakamoto captures not only Sakamoto himself on the rise as an international cultural figure, but also a Japan that had recently become the red-hot center at least in the global imagination of wealth, technology, and even forward-looking imagination. It was in the Japanese capital that Sakamoto recorded Ongaku Zukan, or Illustrated Musical Encyclopedia, the album that showed the listening public, in Japan and elsewhere, what it really sounded like to make music not just in but of the late twentieth century.

Is This Woman Wrong For Calling Her Fiance an Embarrassment? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

There are way too many stories on Reddit that begin with this is the first time my partner has acted this way, but through info and clarification requests, we learn that things have seem to have been headed in a not-so-great direction for quite some time.

In this case, OP is engaged to a man who, until now, seems to have been pretty chill and relaxed.

Ive been seeing my fiance for 4 years now and I came in to the relationship with 2 boys. My boys are now 12 and 9. Once a year me and the boys go to my families vacation home with the entire family and up until this year, my fiance did not attend.

But now that we are engaged and merging families, the family asked that he come too (they all get along great with him anyways).

Still, when he decided to accompany her and her children on an annual vacation with her side of the family, she felt the need to warn him ahead of time that things would not be as they were at home.

Mostly, it was that the children would not have a bedtime while on vacation. OP is their mother and feels that its only once a year and not a big deal.

I explained to him prior to us coming to our family retreat that during our week stay with the family, my kids do not have a bedtime. We do a lot of night activities, such as night swimming in the pool, karaoke, fires, nightly strolls through the neighborhood, etc etc. So during this week, my kids absolutely do not have a bedtime and this is how it has always been.

I made it clear that bedtime was not to be enforced like it was at home because this is vacation and time with family and Im not making my kids miss out on the nightly activities.

I also explained that due to this, some nights they are up until easily 11-midnight. Its once a year, its no big deal.

So he was fully aware and please note that t...

This Tornado Outbreak Will Be Different "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Over the past week, numerous communities across the United States have been devastated by tornadoes, with over 60 fatalities, hundreds of injuries, and countless homes and businesses destroyed. As tornado season continues, another outbreak looms in the near future, and experts are warning that this one could be particularly dangerous. This article will explore the factors contributing to this outbreak, discuss potential impacts, and provide resources for those seeking to stay informed and prepared.

A Sinister Storm System

A significant factor in the coming tornado outbreak is a large trough of cold air that will settle into the western US on Monday, causing heavier snow showers in the Cascades and down towards the Rockies. This blast of cold air will clash with warm air coming up from the south, eventually meeting and creating the conditions for a full-blown storm system to develop near Denver, Colorado late on Monday. This system will bring gusty winds and heavy snow to Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, and western Colorado.

Severe Weather Outbreak

The combination of the huge pocket of cold air aloft, warm moist air being drawn from the Gulf of Mexico, and the deepening low-pressure system to the north sets the stage for a severe weather outbreak. This event has similarities to past destructive outbreaks, such as the April 26, 1994 Outbreak and the 2012 Leap Day outbreak, both of which led to significant damage and loss of life. However, there are also many differences, and smaller, localized features that will only become clear as the event unfolds.

High Confidence in Significant Impact

One reason this outbreak is concerning is the Colorado State University Machine Learning Probability model, which has proven to be accurate and is currently maxed out for a large area on Tuesday. This indicates high confidence in a significant event. The wide warm sector of the storm suggests that every storm that forms has the potential to become a long-track s...

5 Things to Remember When You Want to Take Your Childs Behavior Personally "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

As a parent, its natural to feel emotionally invested in your childs behavior. Sometimes, its hard not to take their actions personally. However, its essential to remember that childrens actions and emotions are often a reflection of their developmental stage, and not necessarily a personal attack on you as a parent. In this article, we will discuss five things to remember when you feel like taking your childs behavior personally, backed by expert sources.

Children are still developing emotionally and cognitively. According to Dr. Laura Markham, a clinical psychologist and author of Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids, its essential to remember that childrens brains are still developing. Their emotional regulation and impulse control are not yet fully formed, which means they may have difficulty expressing their feelings or understanding the consequences of their action.

Your childs behavior may be a reflection of their needs. Dr. Ross W. Greene, a clinical child psychologist and author of The Explosive Child, emphasizes that childrens challenging behaviors are often a result of unmet needs. Instead of taking their actions personally, try to understand the underlying reasons and work together to address them.

Children learn by testing boundaries. Dr. Tovah P. Klein, a child psychologist and author of How Toddlers Thrive, explains that children naturally test boundaries as they learn about the world around them. This behavior is not a personal attack but rather a normal part of their development.

Parental self-care is crucial. Dr. Sheryl Ziegler, a child psychologist and author of Mommy Burnout, emphasizes the importance of parental self-care. Taking care of yourself, both physically and emotionally, can help you better understand and respond to your childs behavior without taking it personally.

Seek professional help if necessary. If your childs behavior is causing significant distress or if youre struggling to manage your emotions, it may be helpful to consult a professional. Child psychologists, therapists, and counselors can provide guidance and support in managing both your childs behavior and your emotional responses.

Its natural to feel emotionally affected by your childs behavior, but its essential to remember that their actions are often a reflection of their developmental stage and unmet needs. By understanding the reasons behind their behavior, practicing self-care, and seeking professional help when necessary, you can better support your child and maintain a healthy emotional connection.

Nikkis Weekly Tarot Reading: April 3-9, 2023 "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The cards pictured are from the Crowley Thoth Tarot Deck.

Four of Disks and Five of Cups

This week we have a Full Moon in Libra on April 5, which calls us to connect to our hearts and tune into our relationships. It may have us questioning some of our connections and shifting to support our growth. Our cards this week aid us in navigating the days ahead.

Our first card this week is the Four of Disks. It is all about creating and sustaining a solid and positive foundation. It asks us to take stock of what gives us strength and builds us up. And it wants us to remove and block anything that tears us down.

Our strength with this card comes from our greater connection to ourselves, our community, and the planet. It wants us to know we are bigger than just ourselves and the universe supports us deeply.

The card portrays a fortress that gives both security and power. The structure may not be tall but it is strong. The symbols on each of the four pillars are the elements: earth, air, fire, and water.

We often have people or situations in our lives that make us question ourselves and our power. When this happens we need to think of all the things that make us strong and take our strength back.

You can think about how far you have come and all the people in your life who love and support you. You can notice all the things you do each day to prioritize your mental and physical health. You can connect with your spiritual practice and your journey to your higher self.

No negative thought, comment, or experience can take away all the work you have put into building your foundation. Its presence is there and will not be knocked down by anxiety, negativity, or naysayers. The Four of Disks is the antidote to doubt and unsureness.

You are powerful, brave, and resilient. You have a base of positivity and love that you worked hard to cultivate.

We all encounter people or experiences that make us feel less than but the Four of Disks is here to remind us of our resiliency and strength. And with the Libra Full Moon, we will release any energy (or relationship) that no longer serves us.

Our second card this week is the Five of Cups. This card comes up in times of emotional sensitivity. We see five empty cups, representing feelings of depletion. Decaying water lilies and their knotted roots symbolize our inner troubles below the surface.

Our disappointment reflected in this card can come in many forms. Disappointment with ourselves, others, or the world itself. Maybe we are disappointed with certain people in our lives. Maybe we had high expectations and things did not turn out the way we wanted. Maybe we feel overwhelmed by the all suffering in the world.

The Five of Cups asks you to feel your feelings. It is telling you it is okay to feel disappointed, it is part of the human experie...

Did This Stepmother Go Too Far When She Called The Police On Her Stepson? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Blending families is no simple task, and to do it well, you have to have buy-in from absolutely every single party.

In this case, OP has a 17yo daughter and her husband has a 19yo son. She doesnt say anything about how the relationships have been up to the point she bought her daughter a car, but since then, things have been tense.

I got my daughter (17) a new car 2 months ago. Her stepbrother (19) has gone crazy about it ever since and has bern attempting to drive it but my daughter made it clear she doesnt want him to.

Her stepson is clearly jealous of the car and trying to bully her daughter into sharing it.

In fact, hes acting as if they already do share the car, criticizing her decor choices, etc.

Hed refer to it as our car and would get mad when my daughter decorates it with pink and add teddy bears and necklaces as decoration. Hed get angry and say that she was ruining their car and embarrassing infront of his friends although she never let him get inside of it.

I asked my husband to talk to his son but he said that my daughter and I need to chill.

Then one day her daughter called and said her stepbrother took the car without her permission. OP called her husband and told him to get his son to bring the car back.

They said he was at the movie and would bring it back afterward.

Fastforward to this past friday. My daughter called me at work saying her stepbrother took her car while she was upstairs after he demanded the keys and she refused. I called his phone but he didnt respond.

I called my husband and told him what happened, I told him that he needed to go bring the car back or Id have to call the police. He called his son then called me back saying h...

Image result for three patriots marching with instruments

Its not very fun to be writing about things that arent so positive or that reveal the corruption in the country you love, but reality is reality, and it has to be dealt with. A world of problems cannot be solved if the underlying causes are not identified. With the schizoid mentality of the left that has created a deep divide in the nation it seems that either the common person is distracted, ignorant, or delusional because they cannot comprehend the facts.

Image result for soaring cost of living prices

Cost of Living

With the current prices at the grocery store, at the gas pump, and for utility costs people are find it hard to make ends meet without working two or three jobs in order to keep up with a 43 year high in inflation. Inflation is caused by the deficit spending of the Democrat party which is causing the US dollar to lose its buying power. Here is a small scale example of the loss of dollar value. A few months ago I bought a cardboard can of iodized salt for 19 cents. The other day I bought another of the same brand and quantity and its now 64 cents! More than triple the price previously! Now scale that up for meat, vegetables, and bread in particular!

Was This Woman Wrong To Tell Her Friend Her Kid Wasnt Invited Along On A Trip? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Its no secret these days that more and more people are deciding to not have children. Which means there are a lot of friend groups where people are having to navigate their pals deciding to have kids and all of the responsibility that goes along with that while others in the group stay blissfully unencumbered.

This woman is one of the child-free folks. She planned an adults-only getaway and invited all of her adult friends, two of whom have children. Both parents had secured childcare in order to attend, but at the last minute, one of the arrangements fell through.

So this coming weekend a group of friends and I are going to go stay at my family cabin. Were all in our late 20s/early 30s.

Two friends have kids Chad and Rebecca. Not together though. Chad wasnt a big deal because its not his weekend theyre with their mom. Rebecca said her sister would watch her son.

Instead of canceling, the woman stated that she could just bring her son along.

Rebecca called me this morning and said something came up and her sister cant do it. I said that sucks, do you have a backup sitter?

She said no, she figured shed just bring him along.

OP told her that wasnt going to work, since they would be taking part in adult activities, etc, and no one else wanted to change their plans.

said uh, this isnt really a kid friendly weekend. Were going to be drinking and stuff.

She said well, why do you HAVE to drink. It can just be a fun getaway and that way he can come.

I said no, Chads not bringing his kids along.

She said well then he should bring them. They can all hangout together ....

Body Blow To Activists: Whopping 82% Of Berlins Voters Refused To Support Net Zero 2030 As Referendum Fails "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The results of Berlins Climate Neutrality By 2030 referendum tell us that FFF and Last Generation are fringe movements, remote of even Berlins mainstream. Itll take a longtime for the radical climate activists to recover from this major setback The movements leaders reacted in disbelief and sourly to the defeat, as Twitter account holder Georg tweeted: Crushing defeat Last Sundays Berlin Climate Neutrality By 2030 referendum failed resoundingly despite the more than a million euros spent in a massive run-up campaign that included plastering the city with posters, concerts by famous performers, huge support and propaganda by the media and hefty donations coming from left wing activists from the east and west coasts of USA. Once the dust of the referendum had settled, it emerged that the yes side fell way short of the quorum 608,000 votes needed to pass the measure. Only 442,210 cast a vote in favor, which represents only 18% of Berlins eligible voters. The activists expected a far greater turnout. 82% refused to lend any support. Berlins rejection of the climate neutrality by 2030 mandate is a massive body blow to the the radical Fridays for Future and Last Generation movement in Germany, and it will take months for the radicals to recover, it ever, from this setback. The Berlin initiative to make the city climate neutral by 2030 was led by rich, upper class youths like Luisa Longhaul Neubauer. But Berliners, having been harassed for months by activists gluing themselves to the streets and blocking traffic, saw the folly of the initiative and the high costs it would entail politically and financially. They decided resoundingly theyd...

How Close is Mankind According to the Doomsday Clock ? "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Amazon.com: The Twilight Zone: The Complete Definitive Collection : Meredith, Burgess: Movies & TV

To most scientists they will tell you that the Doomsday Clock set each year and reset again at the beginning of the next year that it all began at Bikini Atoll in 1953 when the first hydrogen bomb was first detonated. At that time the realization of mutually assured destruction had been perfected. While scientist Enrico Fermi, one of the original atomic bomb researchers under Robert Oppenheimer was sure that the entire atmosphere of the earth would ignite once a successful atomic bomb was detonated, the hydrogen bomb chain reaction would be much quicker and more thorough. Of course, the Russians based upon their stolen data from Los Alamos would allow them to catch up fast and now two super powers would share the deadly capability and begin testing.

Chinese navy holds live-fire drills in South China Sea | World News - Hindustan Times

Deadly comparisons

According to most analysts now with the alignment of the NATO alliance over the Ukraine and Russian war, and the increased aggression of Iran, China, and North Korea, it would seem that a pre-World War II buildup of international tension and armament is ongoing. From the militarily fortified island chains of the Pacific by the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy to the artificial islands of Communist China used as missile bases and airstrips in the South China Sea, the comparisons are staggering. Just as the US imposed crude oil sanctions upon the Japanese due to the atrocities they were committing in Manchuria, rumors have it that the Biden White House covertly sabotaged the Nord Stream pipeline running to Western Europe.

Airstream and Porsche Join Forces to Create a Trailer Concept That Fits in a Garage "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Airstream and Porsche Join Forces to Create a Trailer Concept That Fits in a Garage

Airstream an Porsche Concept Trailer

Two legends of design have joined forces to dream up a trailer concept that will have you yearning to take a road trip. Airstream, known for its silver bullet trailers, and Studio F.A. Porsche, the design minds behind the Porsche, have created a new travel trailer concept that we hope will become a reality. This lightweight trailer is more aerodynamic and can even be stored in the garage, making it unique among Airstreams.

With its sleek, minimalist design, this contemporary travel trailer is truly unique. Gone are the Airstream's signature rivets. And, thanks to wraparound windows, light pours through the interior. The rear is flat, instead of round, which makes the trailer more aerodynamic and allows for the inclusion of a hatchback that can be opened from the exterior. There's even a pop-up roof with integrated awningsa first for an Airstream.

Part of the goal of the project was to make a travel trailer that more people could own. This is Airstream's first trailer concept that could fit into a garage, thanks to an automatic suspension that lowers the trailer's body. This would enable people who live in communities that regulate trailer parking, as well as those without access to secure storage, to still enjoy the benefits of life on the road. This concept also benefits anyone who owns an electric vehicle or small SUV. Thanks to the introduction of carbon fiber in some parts, the trailer is light enough to be pulled by a wide range of vehicles.

The 16-foot trailer sleeps two people and the interior looks as chic as the exterior. A kitchenette with a two-burner stovetop and integrated sink sits at the back of the trailer. The rest of the space includes a sitting area that can easily be converted into a sleeping area at night. There's also plenty of storage, particularly as all of the heating and cooling tanks, as well as the battery, are hidden out of sight below the floor.

If you can't wait to get your hands on this Airstream, you may just have to wait. As it's part of the company's Air Lab concepts, there's no guarantee that it will ever go on sale. But even if it doesn't, Airstream Presid...

National Library of France Completely Transformed After a 15 Year Renovation

Oval Room at Bibliothque Nationale de France

After 15 years, Bruno Gaudin Architectes has completed work on the Bibliothque Nationale de France (BnF). The massive undertaking saw the firm touch every part of this national archive, which is spread across two sites: the Richelieu and Franois-Mitterrand. Tackled in two phases, the first of which was completed in 2016, the fulfillment of the project has revolutionized the library for both its employees and the public.

After 15 years of work, we have returned a building that has been profoundly transformed to meet the contemporary challenges of welcoming the public, opening it up to the city, and sharing and exchanging with the younger generations, shares Bruno Gaudin. Yesterday, closed in on itself, the large, magnificent, worn, fragmented, dark, and dilapidated treasure chest has now been given a new identity, full of light.

Perhaps the most dramatic public transformation occurred in phase one when the Oval Room was completely restored and refurbished. This iconic reading room, located on the Richelieu site, was originally designed in the late 19th century. While keeping the space tied to its historic routes, the firm updated the outdated lighting and installed multimedia seating for visitors to enjoy all aspects of the collection.

Artist Fuses Her Paintings With AI-Generated Art in Unique Collaboration of Human and Computer "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Artist Fuses Her Paintings With AI-Generated Art in Unique Collaboration of Human and Computer

Digital Paintings by Jenni Pasanen

Over the past few years, AI-generated art has risen in popularity and garnered controversy along the way. Some artists, however, are showing that there are many ways to incorporate this tool into their creative practice. Jenni Pasanen merges AI technology with her digital paintings to create surreal illustrations with an ethereal aesthetic.

With a background in design and animation, Pasanen has been painting digitally for about 15 years. The direction of art drastically changed when she discovered AI art two years ago. Since then, she has been exploring ways to seamlessly combine these two approaches into one cohesive work of art. I always describe the process as a cake with layers. Adding a layer on top of one another, mixing the two together, and sometimes adding other elements like animation, photography, or 3D, she tells My Modern Met.

Pasanen's unique illustrations look like visions from a dream. Faceless figures gracefully float in smoky, pastel-colored backgrounds and murky landscapes overlooked by cloud-like animals. For me, inspiration comes from anywhere, from an AI-generated image to a distant memory or even a stick I saw on the street, she continues. That's because we build our own reality from our surroundings and experiences; our life is a story we tell ourselves and that's what we paint on the canvas.

You can purchase prints of Pasanen's art via inPRNT, and keep up to date with the artist's latest work by following her Instagram.

In recent years, scientists have increasingly turned their attention to the possibility of finding evidence of extraterrestrial technology. This is partly due to the discovery of the first interstellar object known to have passed through our solar system, Oumuamua, which caused great excitement among astronomers and the public alike.

Interstellar Objects

Now, another interstellar object is the focus of intense scrutiny by researchers. Professor Avi Loeb, a theoretical physicist at Harvard University, believes that an object that crashed or landed on Earth off the coast of Papua New Guinea in 1990 may be evidence of extraterrestrial technology. He is leading a team that will search for the object, which is thought to be a piece of technology from another solar system.

But could there be other objects like this already on Earth? One mysterious object that has captured the attention of researchers for decades is the Aiud Aluminum Wedge. This unusual artifact was discovered in 1974 in Romania, buried alongside mastodon bones that are millions of years old. The wedge itself is made of an aluminum alloy and has a triangular shape, leading some to speculate that it may be of extraterrestrial origin.

A sort-of Mystery

Despite much debate and speculation, the true origins of the Aiud Aluminum Wedge remain a mystery. It could be a modern object accidentally buried in ancient sediments, or it could be evidence of an ancient civilization with advanced technology. Alternatively, it could be a piece of mining equipment or some other industrial tool.

The Aiud Aluminum Wedge was stored in a museum up until 1995. Pseudoarchaeologists and Ufologists believed that this finding is evidence of extraterrestrial beings visiting Earth in the past. A Romanina ufologist believes that this item is actually a landing gear of an alien spacecraft. But an extraordinary claim requires extraordinary evidence.

Composition of the wedge

According to research, the exact composition of the artifact is as follows: aluminum (89%), copper (6.2%), silicon (2.84%), zinc (1.81%), lead (0.41%), tin (0.33%), zirconium(0.2%), cadmium (0.11%), nickel (0.0024%), cobalt (0.0023%), bismuth (0.0003%), silver (0.0002%), and gallium (in trace amounts).

The more likely explanation, even though we would all love for it to be the ultimate evidence of ET, is that the wedge is a piece of an excavators tooth, and you can see some examples here.

Regardless of its origins, the Aiud Aluminum Wedge has sparked interest among researchers who are looking for potential techno signatures of extraterrestrial origin on Earth. This interest has only grown wit...

The Energies of April 2023; Stabilization "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

From eraoflight.com: Beloved Ones, We leave behind a very intense month. One of constant change and hence transformation, for all who are ready to embrace higher truths, release old structures, and reclaim their sovereignty. March triggered the energies that are now coming in April, and that will continue for the following months. In April, we welcome the first Solar eclipse of the year, and with it, the opportunity for purification, so we can rebirth into who we truly are, sovereign free beings in charge of our lives, as Aries season reminds us. A month to ground ourselves, descending in the physical all we have previously integrated, during the previous month, mastering ourselves as creators in our human plane. We too have the 4/4 portal, which is a very important one for stabilizers, as well as for all who are on a mission to anchor love and harmony, for this portal will help us restore the foundations that have been damaged for eons. A portal that coincides with the Moon in Libra, two days later, will help in grounding all we have seeded, during the 4/4 portal. April is an 11 universal number, a master number that invites us to precisely master ourselves in the many things that we are still here to learn and expand, whether it is our mission or anything else that we need to master, expand, and anchor. This new month helps us continue with the self-illumination process that began in March, and that will lead us into a complete repatterning, retrieving wisdom, and clarity for the expansion that is coming, as we are just beginning to decode all that we have been embodying, for as this year promised, we are indeed immersed in a constant change. Aprils energies are going to help those who wish to go deeper into their evolutionary path, by offering them the strength, and devotion, to continue with their spiritual practices, so they can re-connect themselves with their Illumined Self, to receive more guidance about how to navigate through t...

Texas Is Bitcoin Country, With Or Without The U.S. "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

A historically-independent state, Texas ongoing embrace of Bitcoin makes it an innovative leader, with or without the rest of the U.S.

This is an opinion editorial by James Collins, a financial professional with experience in various asset classes.

We encourage it, we advance it. But I would say we provide the platform for those involved in Bitcoin to make sure they have a place to come to.

The above words spoken by Texas Governor Greg Abbott are a clear reminder of the sheer power hidden within the varying components of Bitcoin that allow the system to organically steer a state or nation into a realm of independence and ethical, fiduciary responsibilities for its citizenry.

Combining the American spirit of the "shot heard round the world" in 1775 and "Remember The Alamo" in 1836, Texas has an opportunity to obtain absolute state independence through mathematical independence thanks to the "block heard around the world" in 2009. This is my analysis of the characteristics of Texas, the effects of historic events and how, through Bitcoin, Texas can become completely sovereign.

The Lone Star State

Texas is one of the most fascinating states in the union. Starting with the Texas Revolution's use of the "come and take it" flag, as an emboldened and outnumbered Texan rebel group won the Battle of San Jacinto to claim Texas independence, the state has always had a spirit of freedom.

Texas then became the Republic of Texas, electing Sam Houston as its first president and proudly flying the Lone Star flag representing itself as its own country. By 1846, Texas had been annexed by the United States and used as a beachhead for the westward expansion of the United States, culminating in the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo and a U.S. payment of $15 million to Mexico for large swaths of western territory. Texas would later secede from the United States in...

Balaji and White on the Banks "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

An excellent discussion between Balaji and my colleague Larry White. I dont think Balaji is going to win his bet but he has been ahead of the crowd on the banking crisis. Its now obvious, for example, that what was important about SVB was not Silicon Valley but that it was a bank and Balaji was among the first to present this clearly. Like Larry, I can imagine Bitcoin and other crypto assets rising in price due to the crisis as people look to diversify away from USD and the US banking system (I am an advisor to some crypto firms) but I dont see $1 million soon. Larry, however, understands banking issues better than anyone I know (check out his new book Better Money: Gold, Fiat or Bitcoin?) and he agrees with much of Balajis analysis even if not $1m BTC.

Balajis mic is noisy but worth listening to anyway for the signal.

Cashless society: Europe pushing the 'criminalization' of physical cash, MEP warns "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The European Union is in danger of "criminalising" the use of physical cash with its new anti-money laundering laws, an MEP has warned. Dr Gunnar Beck, a representative for the populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, has warned that the EU appears to be pushing for the "criminalisation" of the use of physical cash with its new anti-money laundering (AML) laws. Politicians in Brussels have long been pondering an upper legal limit on the value of cash transactions within the bloc, with lawmakers detailing plans to ban Europeans from spending over 10,000 in physical tender as part of a single transaction. The European Parliament however has now voted for such a proposed limit to be dropped down to as little as 7,000 as part of efforts to clamp down on money laundering and tax dodging within the bloc, with officials also voting to see cryptocurrency transactions paying for goods and services that are valued over 1,000 to be banned.

Her Future In-Laws Refer To Her As A Gold Digger? Should Her Fiancee Set Them Straight? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Lets just say up front that there are all kinds of relationship dynamics out there, and as long as everyone is on the same page and it works for the couple, its really none of anyone elses business.

This woman doesnt come from the kind of money that her fiancees does, and for some reason, his family has never let her forget it.

And even though theyve felt the need to continually insinuate that shes only interested in the relationship for the money, her fiancee has never bothered to correct them or stand up for her.

Thats even though recently theyve been a single income household  her income as hes been unemployed and hasnt bothered to inform his family.

So, My fiance (m33) comes from a well off family, I (f29) come from a working class family. My fiances family are nice but they cant help throwing comments at me about how I might be a Gold Digger.

For example, if he buys me something theyll go oh Jason bought you that? You know what this looks like right? And/or Wait, Jason paid for this? Only gold diggers make their partners pay for stuff all the time, just sayin.

Its so demeaning and my fiance does nothing to stop it. Especially now that hes in a bad place in life after he lost his job. And since hes keeping it secret then, Im the one paying for everything.

This has been going on for 4 months.

Recently they were at a family dinner and OP could no longer hold her tongue, spilling the beans about how shes been supporting them both.

Aging Aerosmith Looking for Young Groupies to Mainly Help with iPhone Updates "IndyWatch Feed Satire"

BOSTON Members of the legendary rock band Aerosmith admitted that their desire for young groupies is less about sex and more to do about their need for tech-related help, according to sources waiting for Brad Whitfords new iOS to install.

Were still all about that Rock n Roll lifestyle, stated a confused-looking Steven Tyler after opening his 208th Safari window. But as we get older we need groupies who can show us how to download the newest software and help us reset our streaming passwords, greater than our need for yet another orgy. Weve got twenty-five gold records but none of that means shit if we dont know how to connect to the Hiltons WiFi network. We love our older groupies but those chicks are generally just as clueless as we are so finding some younger babes is crucial. Sure, love in an elevator is cool but so is figuring out how to silence all those goddamn alarms we accidentally set.

Young Press Agent Lindsay Dahlberg described an awkward encounter she had with the band.

I was at a recent show when Joe Perry invited me backstage, explained Dahlberg. I went to their dressing room to clarify that I work for their record label and had no intention of hooking up, but was taken aback when they instead just begged me to update their iPads because they couldnt play Candy Crush anymore. To be honest it would have been much quicker just to dole out a few handies instead of trying to explain to them the ins and outs of modern technology and why they need to quit apps when they arent in use. I did get a good laugh though that all of their passwords were Aerosmith.

Music historian Gabriel McCurdy explained that the needs of musicians change as they get older.

When bands like Aerosmith are young the only things that theyre thinking about are getting high and screwing until the break of dawn, said McCurdy. But as they age, they prefer to find groupies that can aid them in more practical ways like helping them in and out of their tight leather pants, and showing them how to unsubscribe from the Cialis newsletters that are cluttering up their inbox.

At press time, the band was seen begging a bachelorette party to come back to their hotel room to help them solve a series of CAPTCHA puzzles so they could book their flights home.

How I Achieved Maximum Success with "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Barry Silbert Promotes Positive Change for BTC

Barry Silbert is one of the most influential figures in the crypto world. He is the founder and CEO of Digital Currency Group (DCG), a conglomerate of five cryptocurrency-focused companies that have invested in more than 200 crypto startups.

Grayscale, a company that manages $28 billion worth of digital assets, is DCGs main source of income. Grayscale allows investors to access cryptocurrencies without having to deal with buying or storing them themselves.

Other companies under DCG include Genesis Trading, a service for lending and trading cryptocurrencies; Foundry, a provider of mining and staking solutions for cryptocurrencies; CoinDesk, a top platform for news and events related to cryptocurrencies; and Luno, a global service for exchanging and storing cryptocurrencies.

Silberts journey to becoming a crypto millionaire started in 2012, when he was working as an investment banker at Second Market, a platform for trading illiquid assets. He bought about $175,000 worth of Bitcoin at around $11 per coin, after learning about it from niche internet blogs.

He rapidly gained an enthusiasm for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as a means to change the global financial system. He established the Bitcoin Investment Trust (now called Grayscale Bitcoin Trust) in 2013 as the first public option for investing in Bitcoin.

Genesis suffered huge losses and liquidity problems. In November 2022, Genesis announced that it was halting client withdrawals from its lending unit due to extreme market turmoil and loss of industry confidence following the demise of FTX. FTX was one of the largest crypto exchanges in the world before it filed for bankruptcy on Nov. 15 after losing billions of dollars in leveraged bets on Bitcoin futures.

FTXs bankruptcy had a ripple effect across the cryptocurrency industry, causing a steep drop in Bitcoin prices and a loss of trust in crypto platforms. FTX was accused of engaging in risky trading practices, such as offering up to 100x leverage on Bitcoin futures contracts, which magnified its losses when the market turned against it. FTX was also alleged to have mismanaged customer funds and violated securities laws.

Silbert has rejected any misconduct and said he is cooperating with Gensis Trading and its creditors to reach a solution. He has also praised his other businesses, such as Grayscale and CoinDesk, which he said are doing well despite the market chaos.

Despite the challenges, Silbert remains confident about the future of crypto and his role in it. He recently tweeted that he is more bullish than ever on Bitcoin and that he expects DCG to emerge stronger from the crisis.

Silberts story demonstrates how crypto can produce immense wealth but also entai...

The Best Advice About Ive Ever Written "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The Rise of Barry Silbert: From Bankruptcy to Cryptocurrency Mogul

Are you familiar with Barry Silbert? He became rich through the bitcoin market, and his current nett worth is millions. For the purpose of assisting nascent businesses in the cryptocurrency and blockchain sectors, Silbert founded the Digital Currency Group. Silbert has become a prominent player in the cryptocurrency industry thanks to the success of the companies he founded, which include Grayscale, Gensis Trading, and Foundry. In this blog post, we will take a deep dive into the life and career of Barry Silbert and explore how he went from a failed business venture to a crypto pioneer.

Business veteran Barry Silbert has successfully navigated various turbulences. In 2008, he founded an online marketplace for private companies called SecondMarket. The platform allowed investors to buy and sell shares in private companies like Twitter and Facebook. However, the company struggled to gain traction, and Silbert was forced to pivot his business model. In 2015, he sold SecondMarket to Nasdaq, and the company was shut down shortly after.

The failure at SecondMarket didnt bother Silbert in the least. He saw an opportunity in the emerging world of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. He founded the Digital Currency Group in 2013, which has become one of the most prosperous investment firms in the bitcoin sector. Via his business, Digital Currency Group, Silbert has invested in more than 150 companies.

Silberts founding of Grayscale Investments is a major development in the cryptocurrency industry. Grayscale is a subsidiary of Digital Currency Group and is responsible for managing a portfolio of cryptocurrency investment trusts. The Bitcoin Investment Trust is Grayscales most well-known offering; it stores Bitcoin (BTC) on behalf of investors. The trust was launched in 2013 and was one of the first ways for investors to gain exposure to Bitcoin without having to purchase the cryptocurrency directly.

Gensis Trading is a subsidiary of the Digital Currency Group. Gensis Trading is an over-the-counter (OTC) trading firm that specializes in cryptocurrency. The company provides liquidity for institutional investors and high-net-worth individuals who want to buy or sell large amounts of cryptocurrency. Gensis Trading is a leading OTC desk that has processed transactions totalling billions of dollars.

Silberts most recent venture is Foundry, which is a subsidiary of Digital Currency Group that focuses on mining and staking. IDLES Have Great Idea for Song After Watching Dog Eat Vomit in Front of Buckingham Palace "IndyWatch Feed Satire"

LONDON British rock band IDLES are back in the studio working on a new single after being inspired by a dog eating vomit in front of Buckingham Palace, grossed-out sources report.

We were on our way to the charity shop to find new mismatching outfits for a photo shoot, and decided to walk past the Palace. This woman was so overwhelmed that she got chunder all over the sidewalk, and this blokes dog ran over and started eating it, said frontman Joe Talbot while grasping a microphone so intensely that his hand is shaking. I thought to myself, wow, this is brilliant! It can be interpreted as nonsensical or symbolic, all while being comical, but kind of unpleasant to think about. Our fans are gonna love this one.

Some music critics are questioning the bands creative process.

Ive always appreciated IDLES witty takes on the state of British politics, and the general state of the world, but it feels like theyre grasping at low hanging fruit with this concept, said local music blogger Lauren Piker. And for a band that vehemently denies being a punk band, this sure seems like something a punk band would write about. I will say though, I could see them returning to the gritty, energetic sound of Brutalism with this one though, which would be exciting.

Representatives of Buckingham Palace are not thrilled about the bands plans to write about what they are calling a PR nightmare.

On behalf of his majesty King Charles III and the Royal Family, we kindly ask the band known as IDLES to stay away from Buckingham Palace, and stop trying to besmirch the good public image of the Palace with this vile image, said Buckingham Palace Representative Patrick Carp. These hooligans have been staining the United Kingdoms good name for years, and this latest stunt is particularly upsetting. Also, it is my personal opinion that CRAWLER was utter rubbish

At press time, IDLES was busy arguing over which stale pop culture references from a decade ago they should include in their new song.

Shit: This Guys Cover of Wonderwall Is Actually Pretty Good "IndyWatch Feed Satire"

Wow, this guy brought an acoustic guitar to a coffee shop open mic. Im sure he will just astound us with technical ingenuity and lyrical insights beyond our comprehension. That is, of course, assuming he wont just do a clunky rendition of something everyone remembers from the 90s.

Wait.

No, he cant be.

Hes actually playing fucking Wonderwall.

Okay, this is probably just a joke and hes only doing the first few lines. Oh, never mind, it looks like hes well into the second verse. I guess commitment to the bit helps with the irony?

But it doesnt seem like hes being ironic. Hes not making any goofy faces or singing in a purposefully bad Liam Gallagher impression. In fact, hes got a really nice voice. Its kinda got that Sturgill Simpson quality where its gritty but also has an unmistakable vulnerability.

And hes definitely not just doing a complete retread of the original. Hes given it a more rustic feel, yet it doesnt feel like some kind of novelty. Honestly, hes kind of making it his own.

This is like hearing a used car jingle on a stradivarius. This dude is giving me an emotional reaction to Wonderwall, what the fuck is his problem?

He looks like hes in his early 30s. So, surely, hes old enough to know that after a decade-plus of unwanted frat bro covers at parties, Wonderwall has become something of a punchline. I mean, I think we can generally agree that its a good song. But playing a sincere cover of it, in 2023, just boggles the mind. Doesnt he remember the Anyway, heres Wonderwall meme from a few years back?

Well, maybe he does. But hes showing no apparent sign of self-consciousness. Hes not douchey or anything. Hes justpresent, playing a song I hadnt heard brought up in a non-ironic context in years. Its actually kind of inspiring. It at least makes me want to put on (Whats the Story) Morning Glory? when I get home. Great, great album. Jesus, what is happening to me?

Update: His Hallelujah cover sounds good too, and I am now old.

Review: Green Day Dookie "IndyWatch Feed Satire"

Each week The Hard Times travels back to review a classic album of the past. Sometimes its even a good one. This week were taking a closer look at Green Days smash hit Dookie. Also, if youre reading this, please send help.

This album is nothing short of legendary. Its got classics like Basketcase, When I Come Around, and several other quintessential tracks about getting high and masturbating. Its so good that I havent listened to a single other album in years. Thats because I picked Dookie as part of Tower Records Desert Island Album Challenge promotional campaign back in early 2006, and Im still stuck on this sandy hellscape in the middle of the ocean today while slowly going mad from dehydration.

Long story short, it was supposed to be a three-day challenge kind of thing, but Ive been here for seemingly decades now. Starting to think Tower Records shut down entirely and just forgot to pick me up. If I ever get rescued, I vow to only buy CDs from Borders Books and Music.

I still remember the very first time I heard this album though. It wasnt soon after when I signed some agreement in-store that allowed the music media giant to blindfold me and drop me out of a moving plane onto this desolate beach with nothing but a pocket knife, CD player, and Dookie. Got to be honest, their business model doesnt seem very sustainable.

In terms of the album though, Longview seems to be a song about boredom. That one really speaks to me here. So does Chump since thats exactly how I feel after willingly participating in this ridiculous challenge. Welcome to Paradise was pretty cool for the first few days I was here because of all the palm trees and sunshine, but the hidden track All By Myself now feels more accurate to how Im feeling.

One silver lining is that I learned how to build a fire, capture fish with my bare hands, and make shelter out of branches, twigs, and leaves. However, at some point, I got so hungry that I had to consume my physical copy of Dookie to avoid starvation. As much as I loved listening to this album, I have to say it tastes even better when you havent eaten in days.

Score: 5 out of 5 SOS messages

Employee Shares How McDonalds Iced Mocha Latte Drink is Made and Things Get Weird "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Some jobs get boring and idle hands are the devils tools (credit: grandmas everywhere). One McDonalds worker decided to turn her idle time into a viral TikTok demonstrating the steps that go into making the restaurants popular iced mocha latte. The barista is user Yanii (@kallme.yaniii) and she frequently makes these types of videos about her working days. Shes racked up 16,000 in followers.

The first thing she does is to add three pumps of mocha to the small cup filled with ice. She places the cup in the machine.

Next, she tells us to select iced drinks and small iced mocha. The drink comes out of the machine to fill the cup. She stirs it with a spoon to make sure you stir all the mocha in, squirts a mound of whip, a drizzle of syrup, then puts a lid on the cup.

What is Education For? "IndyWatch Feed Fertility"

David Orrs book, Earth in Mind: On Education, Environment, and the Human Prospect, seems as relevant today as when it was first published a few decades ago. Schooling is failing to do what society and children need.We are facing unprecedented planetary ecological destruction and human disconnection from self, others, and Nature. Orr warned that schooling was a primary source of these outcomes.

Without careful attention to how schooled education is structured, Orr warned:

Without significant precautions, education can equip people merely to be more effective vandals of the earth. If one listens carefully, it may even be possible to hear the Creation groan every year in late May when another batch of smart, degree-holding, but ecologically illiterate, Homo sapiens who are eager to succeed are launched into the biosphere. (Orr, 1994, p. 5)

Orr points out that we should always remember that the architects of the German holocaust were highly educated men, whose education Elie Wiesel (1990) described as emphasizing

theories instead of values, concepts rather than human beings, abstraction rather than consciousness, answers instead of questions, ideology and efficiency rather than conscience.

In my experience as a professor and classroom teacher, too many disciplines and coursework throughout K-12 and the college and graduate years match this unfortunate description.

Witches Take Over Westchester "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

VALHALLA, New York Among the recent works in a 30-year survey of sculptures and collages by Nancy Bowen at Westchester Community College Art Gallery is a group of 20 tombstones (2020). Made of gray-toned paper pulp encrusted with tiny shells and pebbles, and veined with black pigment, each bears a ceramic plaque with the name of a woman or man killed during the Salem witch trials, an event presided over by one of the artists ancestors, Samuel Sewall, who eventually repented and atoned. Bowen took care to individuate each tombstone, surmounted by a set of ceramic wings and a skull facing in one direction, and grounded by ceramic shoes that project from the bottom. The head-and-wings motif is from early American funerary art, and symbolizes both mortality and resurrection; the shoes convey a feeling that these whimsical little characters for that is what they are might transcend their horrible fate by simply picking up and walking away.

In some ways the installation is an anomaly: it does not look much like other works in the show. Yet it embodies two strains long explored by this under-the-radar artist: on the one hand, experimenting with craft me...

How To Be the Woman That Doesnt Seek Validation "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

We have all been guilty of seeking validation at one point or another, and this likely ties into the societal pressure placed on women to please others. We doubt ourselves because we are hard-wired to try to please everyone around us, but this same societal conditioning is the very thing that will destroy our mental health and well-being.

Throughout history, women have been pressured to seek out validation, most especially from men. At one point in time, our survival depended upon it, because we had very few rights. Fast-forward to now, and while times have changed, it is still hard-wired in our DNA to seek validation from others. Of course, there are other factors at play as well. Regardless of the reasons, if you are ready to take your power back, then I have 6 tips to share with you.

6 ways to become a woman who does not seek validation from others.

1. Get to know yourself.

In order to believe in yourself, you have to know yourself. I dont mean know yourself in the vague sense of the word, I mean you need to really know yourself. You need to sit down with yourself and be honest about who you are, what you believe in, what you are capable of, what your weaknesses are, what your flaws are, and what makes you beautiful.

2. Understand your worth.

There are many of us that do not get taught what our value is. Instead, we are taught that we should be the prettiest girl in the room, the quietest, and the people pleaser. Let go of these notions and understand that this is your life and you are worthy of everything you desire and more.

3. Understand what you have accomplished and what you are capable of.

Look back at what you have accomplished. Think of times in which you stepped up and showed out. For example, remember that time that you got that promotion because you worked for it? Or, do you remember that time you could have given up when things were hard, but you kept going instead? Count those wins!

4. Practice self-care.

You cannot pour from an empty cup. If you are always doing for everyone else and letting your needs fall to the back burner, you do not value yourself. Make a point of showing YOU that you value YOU.

5. Practice setting boundaries.

Boundaries are everything. At the end of the day, when you seek validation from others, you are violating your own boundaries and honestly the boundaries of others. Why? Its not ANYONES responsibility to validate you.

6. Surround yourself with the right people.

There is an old saying that goes something along the lines of you are who you surround yourself with, and well, that couldnt be more true. So, if you want to be strong and confident, then you need to surround yourself with people who are strong and confident and who value you.

7 Books Every Parent Should Read To Their Child "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

As parents, we want our kids to have the best life they possibly can have, and the easiest way to ensure that you are achieving this is by reading to your kids. You might be thinking that this sounds crazy, but did you know that reading to your kids can encourage their development in a myriad of ways?

Not only is reading an enjoyable activity that your kids will love- but it also is an activity that will help their vocabulary, encourage them to build problem-solving skills, enhance their imagination and encourage healthy social behaviors. With that said, the content that you read to them is just as important as the activity itself. Below, I will go over 7 books that every parent should read to their child.

1. The Giving Tree, by Shel Silverstein

This is a book that is beloved by many and for good reason: it is an amazing read. This book goes through the different life, love, and relationship changes that happen during our lives. Additionally, it teaches children about generosity and gratitude, which is a must.

2. Oh, The Places Youll Go, by Dr. Suess

This book is an emotional read to be a childs book, and it leaves you feeling a sense of hope and happiness when you finish it. The best part about this book is that it shares a very necessary message: that we are in charge of our own destinies.

3. The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

Not only is this book a very interesting journey alongside a little caterpillar who grows into a beautiful butterfly, but it is also filled with beautiful art. One of the best things about this book is the message behind it, which tells us about transformation. There is a reason why everyone loves this book. Its the perfect read for a smaller child, like a toddler or pre-k child.

4. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, by Lois Ehlert

When I saw this book at the bookstore, I knew I had to pick it up. Growing up, I loved this book. Its a simple read, and it can be read in the form of a song. Not to mention how it easily teaches little ones how to say their ABCs.

5. The Raindrop, by Brian D. Mcclure

If you are looking for a childs book with a deep message about how we value ourselves, this one is it. In this book, a little raindrop begins to feel worthless and meaningless. Throughout its journey, it learns about itself and finds out that it has much more value than it ever imagined.

6. Where the Sidewalk Ends, by Shel Silverstein

Shel Silverstein was not only a great writer, but also a great artist and poet. This book includes an extensive list of poetry and imagery that will be sure to empower your little ones imagination.

7. Charlottes Web

While most people have seen the movie, the book is way better. In this book, a little pig named Wilbur befriends a spider named Charlotte. Charlotte creates a plan to save the piglet from the butcher and through their friend...

4 Signs He Has An Avoidant Attachment Style "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Back in the 1950s, John Bowlby, M.D., and Mary Ainsworth, Ph.D. realized a unique relationship between how a child relates to their parent in their earliest stage. Based on their work, when children do not properly bond with their parents, they end up with dysfunctional attachment styles, like avoidant attachments.

There are four main attachment styles: anxious, avoidant, disorganized, and secure. When a child is properly bonded to their mother or caregiver early on, they securely attach, and when their bond is somehow stunted, they may end up with one of the others. Anxious attachment styles cause people to be clingy, to be obsessive, and to be fearful constantly of losing their partner or doing something wrong. Avoidant attachment styles lead to people being extremely fearful of commitment and pulling back from emotional depth altogether.

Sadly, being with someone with an unhealthy attachment style can be extremely hurtful. Here are four signs that indicate an avoidant attachment style.

1. When the going gets good, he gets going.

People who are avoidant in their attachment style tend to have difficulty with commitment. Due to this, when things are going well in a relationship or a new partnership, they are likely to bail. To them, good means that they may get attached, and that means they could get hurt. So, instead of being able to feel safe and secure, they pull back.

2. They cling to the past.

Another tell-tell sign of an avoidant attachment is when you notice your partner is stuck in the past. You might find they have a history of this with past lovers. They may collect past love interests on their socials, and you may even hear them constantly reminiscing about someone else.

3. They lack trust in anyone.

People with avoidant attachment styles tend to not trust others. Whenever you tell them you will do something, they will be suspicious. They will constantly be coming behind you, checking to see if you are lying to them or doing them wrong.

4. They are hot/cold.

The biggest sign to me is someone who is either all in or all out. One moment, they seem fine, and they may even talk about commitment. However, when it comes time to pay up, they run for the hills.

5 Ways To Be Gentle, Yet FIRM With Your Kids "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

As a parent, we are constantly toeing the line between being assertive and being compassionate. While we want disciplined kids, who listen and who are good humans, we also want children who feel heard and loved.

Disciplining can be difficult, especially if you were raised by parents who were not so gentle or parents who let you do whatever you wanted to do. At the end of the day, neither of those approaches is going to get the results you want. With that said, the question remains, how do you stay firm with your children while remaining gentle and loving?

Here are 5 simple tips that will help you accomplish exactly that.

1. Create an environment that is conducive to what you are trying to accomplish.

Children will rebel against parents who always seem angry with them, it is simply in their nature. So, it is your job as a parent to create a warm and loving environment, where your kids have a voice so that when it comes time to get firm with them, they will trust in you and listen.

2. Keep your posture right.

When approaching your child, you need to maintain yourself. Do not let them see you struggling to be firm, because they will sense that you dont trust yourself. In turn, they are far less likely to take you seriously. Stand tall, maintain your facial expression, and stay in control.

3. Manage your tone.

Your tone is everything. If you softly tell your son to stop playing and do his homework, and he doesnt listen, it is likely because he isnt taking you seriously. Instead, use a deep tone that is serious, loud enough to get the point across but not yelling, and use commands, not questions.

4. Talk less.

If you throw a bunch of commands at your child or use too many words when trying to command them, they are going to get lost. Instead, keep it short and sweet.

5. Look back at situations that didnt work.

When there are times in which you are not firm enough or your attempts failed, use them to learn. Look back and ask yourself what you could have done better. Identify these issues and then come up with a strategy for next time.

Did She Overreact By Dumping A Full Post Of Pasta Sauce On The Rug? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Relationships might be hard, but if youve spent any time at all reading through posts on Reddit, you realize there are whole lot of people out there making them harder than they have to be.

OP and her boyfriend are in their 30s. Hes been working hard and having to study for an exam, so she decided to be kind and come over to his place to make dinner.

After she told him it was just about ready, he hollered back whats for dinner, b**ch?

I was over my boyfriends apartment this weekend and I was cooking dinner because he was studying for exams. I made pasta and a chunky sauce with meatballs and veggies.

I told him dinner was ready and he goes whats for dinner tonight, B*TCH With like a lot of emphasis on the last word.

She saw red and made him see red by dumping the dinner on the ground and telling him in no uncertain terms that she was not going to be spoken to that way.

She left, got herself takeout, and went to a friends house.

I was fed up, Id had a pretty rough day with work and I have some awfully bad associations with that word being used by other people in my life who were pretty abusive. So I was so irritated that I dropped the pot of pasta sauce Id been carrying right on the ground and was like Well nothings for dinner tonight now. And I better not hear you using that word again, its for the girls

He was freaking out about how sauce had landed on his rug and he even said youre seriously acting like a bitch right now, I dunno what else to call it

He kept texting her to explain it was a TikTok challenge (but never apologize) and in the morning was bugging her to come over and clean up the mess (that hed left sit all night)....

Dominator vs. Partnership Cultures: A Profound Re-Telling of Human History "IndyWatch Feed Health"

From Jordan Bates: Riane Eisler, a world-renowned Austrian-born American systems scientist, writer, and social activist, has proposed that we ought to understand human cultures and societies in terms of two fundamental categories: dominator and partnership. In her landmark work, The Chalice and the Blade: Our History, our Future, she suggests that our conventional social categoriesreligious vs. secular, right vs. left, capitalist vs. communist, Eastern vs. Western, and industrial vs. pre- or post-industrial, etc.are insufficient to describe the whole of a societys values, beliefs, and institutions.

Eisler argues that these categories overlook the fact that, historically, many societies in all of the aforementioned categories have been unequal and violent, whereas some societiesthe majority of which existed millennia agohave been much more equalitarian and peaceful. Eisler points out that we lack a frame of analysis that encompasses the differences between these latter societies/cultures and the vast majority of societies/cultures that are prevalent today. Thus Eisler turns to the historical and archaeological record to argue that throughout human history, sociocultural systems have existed on a continuum between the extremes of dominator and partnership systems. A couple of passages from her website seem a worthy starting point for understanding the definitions and profound implications of these categories:

In the domination system, somebody has to be on top and somebody has to be on the bottom. People learn, starting in early childhood, to obey orders without question. They learn to carry a harsh voice in their heads telling them theyre no good, they dont deserve love, they need to be punished. Families and societies are based on control that is explicitly or implicitly backed up by guilt, fear, and force. The world is divided into in-groups and out-groups, with those who are different seen as enemies to be conquered or destroyed.

In contrast, the partnership system supports mutually respectful and caring relations. Because there is no need to maintain rigid rankings of control, there is also no built-in need for abuse and violence. Partnership relations free our innate capacity to feel joy, to play. They enable us to grow mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. This is true for individuals, families, and whole societies. Conflict is an opportunity to learn and to be creative, and power is exercised in ways th...

While health agencies make a big stink about unsterilized foods such as raw organic milk, the food associated with the greatest number of foodborne illnesses is factory farmed chicken.

According to the latest Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) statistics,1 there were 5,760 reported foodborne outbreaks between 2009 and 2015, resulting in 100,939 illnesses, 5,699 hospitalizations and 145 deaths. Of these, chicken was responsible for the most outbreak-associated illnesses 3,114 illnesses in total (12%), followed by pork and seeded vegetables, each of which was responsible for 10% of illnesses. As noted by CBS News:2

"'No other food, it turns out, is quite as problematic as chicken the heart-healthy alternative to red meat. Though fish and dairy technically caused more 'outbreaks,' chicken sickened the most people ...

'Chicken is a reservoir for salmonella,' explains Thomas Gremillion, director of the Food Policy Institute at the Consumer Federation of America.

Though proper cooking can kill most salmonella strains, normal food preparation techniques like using a sponge to clean up spills or rinsing your chicken in the sink tend to spread the bug around your kitchen, he says. That can 'cross-contaminate' your sink, cutting boards and vegetables.'

'This CDC report shows that government inspectors and industry need to do more to protect consumers from unsafe chicken,' says Gremillion.

'Rather than focusing on schemes to boost industry profits such as eliminating slaughterhouse line speed limits we should be talking about why the U.S. lags so far behind other countries on issues like addressing salmonella contamination in poultry, and what can be done to avoid some of these illnesses and the havoc they wreak on families.'"

Chicken Is Notoriously Prone to Bacterial Contamination

Over the years, food testing has shown that chicken is particularly prone to contamination with dangerous pathogens, including antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Consumer report testing in 2007 found 80% of whole chicken broilers harbored salmonella and/or campylobacter,3 two of the leading causes of foodborne illness.

Retesting in 2010 revealed a modest improvem...
