Every once in a while, its nice to read that somebody in Hollywood gets it when it comes to prepping. Most of the time, preparedness. So when I saw the headline, Josh Duhamel Is Obsessed with Doomsday Prepping, I rolled my eyes.

But I went to read the article anyway, and Im glad I did. Because Duhamel really does seem a lot like one of us (except with a crap ton of money). Heres what I learned.

Who is Josh Duhamel?

Duhamel is a long-time fixture in Hollywood. According to his bio on IMBD:

Joshua David Duhamel was born in Minot, North Dakota. His mother, Bonny L., is a retired high school teacher, and the Executive Director of Minots Downtown Business & Profession Association, and his father, Larry Duhamel, is an advertisement salesman. Josh has three younger sisters: Ashlee, McKenzee, and Kassidy. His ancestry is German, and smaller amounts of Norwegian, French-Canadian, English, Irish, and Austrian (his last name is very common among Francophones in the world). Before his acting career, the football player studied biology and earned his Bachelors degree at Minot State University with the intention of pursuing dentistry.

Hes had a reasonably illustrious career.

Duhamel can be seen in Vince Gilligan and David Shores CBS series, Battle Creek. He is in production on four films: Lost In The Sun, Bravetown, The Wrong Stuff, and Beyond Deceit.

Duhamel also starred alongside Hillary Swank and Emmy Rossum in the George C. Wolfe directed drama, Youre Not You. Duhamel also starred opposite Julianne Hough in Lasse Hallstroms Safe Haven, a drama based on the best-selling novel by Nicholas Sparks and the thriller Scenic Route, which tells the story of two friends stranded in the desert. In addition, Duhamel was seen in the star-studded, ensemble comedy Movie 43 alongside Emma Stone, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Kate Winslet, Richard Gere among many others. Co-directed by Peter Farrelly and Patrik Forsberg, the film features various intertwining, raunchy tales.

Heres What We Know About Twitters New CEO, Linda Yaccarino The Organic Prepper

When Elon Musk bought Twitter, many figures in alternative media really thought theyd be getting re-platformed. Personally, I found it hilarious that Musk was willing to spend $44 billion because he missed Babylon Bee. But Twitters new CEO, Linda Yaccarino, has some of us questioning Musks long game.

Is he really a champion of free speech? Or was this a plan, all along, to turn Twitter into the American equivalent of WeChat? How much can we really trust him to stand up for the First Amendment?

Lets look a little more closely at Linda Yaccarino first.

Before moving to Twitter, she was NBCUniversals Chairman of Global Advertising and Partnerships. During her decade-plus at NBC, she helped the network transition from a traditional broadcasting network to a modern media company, establishing partnerships with companies like Apple, Snapchat, Buzzfeed, and YouTube to increase NBCs online presence dramatically.

This is a woman who knows in what direction the winds are blowing and gets things done.

From a purely business perspective, her choice as Twitters CEO makes sense. Twitter lost many of its big advertisers after Musks takeover. Their revenue in December 2022 was down more than 70% from the year before. Musk needs to start rebuilding his relationships with advertisers, and Yaccarino looks like the perfect person to do it.

Yaccarino has conservative credentials. Liberals hate her. After all, she was a Trump appointee to the Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. She follows Ron DeSantis and Libs of TikTok on Twitter.

Fourteen Years Old With No Time (or Food) to Waste News & Views - AmpleHarvest.org

Seven years back, I wrote a piece called March 9, 2009 Not Your Typical Day. Its worth a read to see how an aging geek took an idea and ran with it.

Which brings us to today, May 18, 2023 and our fourteenth birthday (Happy Birthday to Us!).

The idea behind AmpleHarvest.org was to turn a serious problem most people never thought about, into a nationwide solution every gardener would eventually become a part of.

When I launched AmpleHarvest.org, it was intended to tackle the problem of food waste that with few exceptions, no one talked about. These two exceptions were Bill Marsh of the New York Times who created a map in 2008 of the United States representing the volume of food lost every month by a family of four, and Jonathan Bloom, Americas expert on the topic, whose WastedFood.com was and still remains the first go-to site for anyone wanting to learn about the issue.

Once two amazing volunteers built the website, it was on me to tell everyone about AmpleHarvest.org.

Turns out, I had help. Soon after the initial press release went out, the New York Times sent me to their go to person for food waste information Jonathan. We chatted on the phone for almost an hour. I was most appreciative of his time but didnt think anything would come of it until two days later when he posted a great article Ample Harvest? Pass Some Along on his site. Phone calls started coming in and emails started arriving. Jonathan put the first sunshine on my idea.

Next surprise was the article in the Huffington Post by Sasha Abramsky called Breadline USA Part III the first press AmpleHarvest.org received. What caught my eye was his comment: Its a win-win model: the kitchen growers have the satisfaction of seeing their surplus food being eaten and enjoyed. Impoverished pantry and shelter residents get to eat decent meals. And, down the road, the health care system saves money because the population is eating better, healthier, fare.

That AmpleHarvest.org would influence the nations healthcare costs had never crossed my mind. It was the first of many eye-opening moments as I realized the impact of enabling people ordinary people to be the game changers in their own community.

Soon thereafter, Google stepped up with their AdWords grant which today is our best tool for educating millions of gardeners that the days of Jars, Cans Boxes No Fresh Food at Americas food pantri...

Business As Usual: Shutdown or Not, the Police State Will Continue to Flourish SHTF Plan

Once again, the police state is up to its old tricks, stoking tensions over whether or not the government is forced to shut down, even partially, due to a default on the national debt.

Yet while these political games dominate news headlines, send the stock market into a nosedive, and put federal employees at risk of having to work without pay, nothing about these high-handed theatrics will diminish the immediate and very real dangers of the American Police State with its roadside strip searches, government surveillance, biometric databases, citizens being treated like terrorists, imprisonments for criticizing the government, national ID cards, SWAT team raids, censorship, forcible blood draws and DNA extractions, private prisons, weaponized drones, red light cameras, tasers, active shooter drills, police misconduct, and government corruption.

Default or not, war will continue. Drone killings will continue. Surveillance will continue. Censorship and persecution of anyone who criticizes the government will continue. The governments efforts to label dissidents as extremists and terrorists will continue.

Police shootings will continue. Highway robbery meted out by government officials will continue. Corrupt government will continue. Profit-driven prisons will continue. And the militarization of the police will continue.

Indeed, take a look at the programs and policies that will not be affected by a government default on its debt leading to a possible shutdown, and youll get a clearer sense of the governments priorities, which have little to do with serving taxpayers and everything to do with amassing money, power, and control.

Surveillance will continue unabated. On any given day, whether youre walking through a store, driving your car, checking email, or talking to friends and family on the phone, you can be sure that some government agency, whether the NSA or some other entity, is listening in and tracking your behavior. The US State Department has warned that Pyongyang will be in violation of international law if it launches a military spy satellite, the State Department says. The U.S. says that a potential North Korean satellite launch would violate international restrictions placed on the DPRK.

The statement came after North Korean media revealed that Kim Jong-un had visited a facility where a spacecraft is being developed. During a press briefing on Wednesday, State Department deputy spokesman Vedant Patel said the launch would breach multiple UN Security Council resolutions on North Koreas ballistic missile program, which also cover rockets used for spacecraft.

On Tuesday, Kim met with scientists, technicians, and senior officials as he inspected the countrys first military reconnaissance satellite. The North Korean leader approved an unspecified future action plan in preparation for the launch, according to the Korean Central News Agency. The successful launch of a military reconnaissance satellite is an urgent request and the governments top policy priority to strengthen our national defense capabilities, Kim said after the inspection, adding that North Korea would continue to advance its space program.

Anyone who got vaccinated for the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) and now suffers from neurological or other serious health problems is just dealing with anxiety due to the COVID vaccine. This is the position of government health authorities, anyway, who refuse to admit that these experimental drugs could ever cause anyone serious harm and Big Tech is in on the coverup as well.

A Facebook support group for individuals who took the needle(s) and are now debilitated was shut down recently for violating the social media platforms misinformation policy, which prohibits any information that is likely to directly contribute to the risk of imminent physical harm, including by contributing to the risk of individuals getting or spreading a harmful disease or refusing an associated vaccine.

In the eyes of Facebook and the rest of Silicon Valley, not to mention the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other government agencies, there is no such thing as health damage caused by COVID jabs. Those who suffered such a thing are just making it up in their head, or simply have the post-injection jitters.

One woman who describes herself as pro-science and pro-vaccine spoke to The Wall Street Journal about the post-injection neuropathy she developed after voluntarily signing up to be a human guinea pig for AstraZenecas COVID injection trial. She was eventually diagnosed as having post-vaccine neuropathy and severe postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, also known as POTS.

After getting kicked off Facebook, she started her own science-based nonprofit offering financial, physical, and emotional support for others like herself who suffered severe reactions post-injection. That non-profit currently boasts 21,000 members in the United States and another 20,000 from other countries.

We are not anti-vax and are neutral on the COVID vaccines, Brianne Dressen, the woman in question and founder of React19, the aforementioned non-profit, is quoted as saying. But doctors need to be aware of whats going on so they can treat patients.

What would happen in the event of a financial Ice Age? I dont mean with this a literal Ice Age. No worries, it will come finally, as it has been happening the last thousands of years. I dont mean anything else than a massive event where our bank accounts are frozen in a worldwide extension.

Just imagine a scenario where your ability to make (and receive!) payments is suddenly halted. Not because there is no power. Not because a nuke exploded. Not because of an EMP attack. Not even a deadly virus spreading (again).

Your cards become little plastic thingies in your wallet overnight, and our money, even when it is in the account and visible, we cant use it. A global-scale bank account freezing is a hypothetical scenario that would have significant consequences for all of us. Individuals, big and small businesses, autonomous workers, farmers, NGOs, and all sorts of institutions and governments all around the world. While such an event is unlikely, it is paramount to understand the potential implications of such an occurrence. Because the odds of such terrible events are there.

In recent years no one could believe that an emergency state would be declared because of the migrants getting into the US through the southern border. Look what has been happening in the recent months. So, I would say, as a foreigner, as a bystander, as a simple outsider and external observeryes, it can happen. Without any previous warning.

What can cause this?

The freezing of bank accounts can occur for several reasons other than a global conflict. This includes legal or regulatory action, fraud investigations, or security breaches. In a global-scale instance, there could be plenty of factors leading to such an event, including a major cyber-attack on a large banking system. Which, if you ask me, is the most likely identifiable threat. And yes, Im sure it has happened before, but it was covered up to avoid panic. Because if panic levels climb up beyond a threshold, the catastrophic events following could be much worse than the consequences of the banking system going to a halt.

If you wanted to destroy the middle class, one way that you could accomplish that goal would be to flood the system with money. Of course that is precisely what we have witnessed over the past few years.

Our leaders have pumped trillions of new dollars into the system, and the wealthy have gotten much, much wealthier. But meanwhile, the rest of us have seen the cost of living rise much faster than our paychecks have. As a result, we are getting poorer and the middle class is shrinking.

Over time, our capitalist economy has steadily evolved into a system where almost all of the wealth and almost all of the power are concentrated in the hands of giant institutions.

Collectively, big government and big corporations run virtually everything, and this system of corporate socialism funnels a tremendous amount of wealth into the pockets of a very small minority of the population.

Meanwhile, the people on top have never had it so good. The top 1% now own more wealth than the bottom 92%, and the 50 wealthiest Americans own more wealth than the bottom half of American society 165 million people.

Of course, Sanders believes that even more socialism is the answer, but more socialism is never the answer.

I prefer leather gloves. Haven't found one that is reasonably priced, rugged, comfortable, not too thick and has a loop or hole to tie on to a carabiner on my pack. Suggestions?

My current gloves are cheap, rugged, fairly comfortable, but not attachment point. This is maybe my fourth or fifth pair? I usually will use them to death then replace. Tried a pair that was partly leather, but did not like it as much. The fingertip dexterity wasn't that good on that pair.
