There have been many areas where the heat index has already been up around 120 degrees.  In Rio Grande Village, the actual temperature was 119 degrees on Friday, and forecasters were warning that the same reading would be reached again on Tuesday.  This extreme heat has already caused several deaths, and it could potentially cause widespread crop failures.

For the first time since 2003, there are cases of Malaria in the United States.  All five known cases were acquired through local transmission.

According to a health alert issued Monday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there were four cases detected in Florida and one in Texas.

The Associated Press reported that Malaria is caused by a parasite that spreads through mosquito bites. Infected people can suffer fever, chills, and flu-like illness. If it goes untreated, infected people can develop severe complications and die. The largest death toll in recent years has been seen in children in sub-Saharan Africa.

Malaria can be prevented by avoiding mosquito bites. Drain and Cover is a method currently being used in Sarasota and Manatee counties. Basically, you should drain standing water to keep mosquitoes from multiplying and you should cover your skin with clothing or bug repellent and cover doors and windows:

• Drain water from garbage cans, gutters, pool covers, toys, flower pots, or anywhere else where sprinklers and rainwater have been collected
• Discard old tires, bottles, cans, pots, pans, broken appliances and other items not being used
• Empty and clean birdbaths and pet water bowls at least once or twice a week
• Protect boats and vehicles from rain with tarps
• Maintain swimming pools and keep them appropriately chlorinated
• Wear socks, shoes, and long pants with long sleeves (especially when working in areas where mosquitoes are present)
• Apply mosquito repellent to bare skin and clothing
• Cover doors and windows with screens to keep mosquitoes out of your house

Malaria is not transmitted from person to person.  Infected Anopheles mosquitoes can transmit malaria to humans and they must have been infected through a previous blood meal taken from an infected person, the CDC said.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has noted in a study that nearly one in five Americans have been diagnosed with depression  and the prevalence varies on where they live.

CDC researchers looked at the agencys Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System to analyze how adults answered a 2020 survey about whether theyve been diagnosed with a depressive disorder by a health professional and nearly 400,000 respondents in all 50 states and Washington D.C. responded to the question on depression.

The study published in the CDCs June 16 Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) noted that in 2020, 18.4 percent of U.S. adults reported having been diagnosed with depression in their lifetime by a healthcare provider. Higher rates of depression were found in women, young adults aged between 18 and 24, and adults with lower education levels.

It also found that depression rates vary substantially by state, with those in the Appalachian and southern Mississippi Valley regions registering high rates. Of all the areas surveyed, Hawaii registered the lowest depression rate at 12.7 percent.

West Virginia took the top spot, with 27.5 percent of residents being diagnosed with depression. It was followed by Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Vermont, Alabama, Louisiana, Washington, Missouri, and Montana.

Researchers from the public health agency noted that the variation in depression might also reflect the influence of social determinants of health in counties and states, including economic status and differences in access to health care. They wrote: For example, adults in the Appalachian region tend to have lower incomes, higher poverty rates, and lower education levels, all of which can negatively affect health and well-being.

Incidentally, the period of the CDCs study coincided with the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and lockdowns to curb the spread of the disease. The draconian health measures confined many to the four corners of their homes.

One example is employees in building-planning departments taking bribes from applicants to bypass lengthy permit reviews. Money changes hands privately to gain some state-issued benefit.

Public trust in institutions, the rule of law and basic fairness are all undermined by corruption. This is why even the hint of impropriety must be promptly investigated and the results made public.

But there is more to corruption than just investigating improprieties. The larger questions are:

1. Is corruption a rare occurrence or has it become business as usual, i.e. endemic, embedded, taken for granted as the way things work?

2. Is there any sense of sincere shame or wrongdoing when those reaping private gains from their positions in the State are publicly exposed? Or do the guilty disclaim any notions of sin or shame for betraying the Public Trust?

3. Are there two completely different Standards of Justice, Criminality and Punishment, one applied ferociously to the general public and another applied with the lightest of feathers to insiders, financial elites and the politically influential?

I submit that all three conditions are true: corruption is now BAU, business as usual; there is no sense of shame or wrongdoing when the corrupt are exposed, and there are two judicial standards, one for the bottom 99.9% and another for insiders, the well-connected, the influential, the politically protected and the super-wealthy, what I call Americas Aristocracy or Royalty.

CoinTelegraphs Helen Partz reports that Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) the biggest bank in Hong Kong has reportedly introduced its first local cryptocurrency services.

HSBC has enabled its customers to buy and sell Bitcoin- and Ether-based exchange-traded funds (ETFs), local journalist Colin Wu reported in a tweet on June 26.

According to the report, HSBC will specifically offer cryptocurrency ETFs listed on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. At the time of writing, the exchange lists three crypto ETFs, including CSOP Bitcoin Futures ETF, CSOP Ethereum Futures ETF, and Samsung Bitcoin Futures Active ETF.

The bird flu is taking out domestic cats in Poland now. The H5N1 strain has killed at least nine pet cats as scientists continue to investigate an unusual cluster of illnesses affecting dozens of cats across the country.

The General Veterinary Inspectorate said in a statement that, out of 11 samples tested,  nine have come back positive for H5N1 bird flu. The cats lived in Pozna, Lublin, and the Tri-City area, all in different parts of the country, according to a report by BNONews.

But the mainstream media still says there is no reason to panic. According to the Washington Examiner, despite the fact that H5N1 now shows an ability to infect mammals, with cases found in foxes, seals, dolphins, otters, and wild dogs, the number of human cases remains extremely small. In part, thats because several mutations would have to occur before bird flu could spread from human to human.

Further detailed testing of the genetic material of the viruses is underway, the Polish agency said of the infected cats. Preliminary tests rule out the influenza virus which has caused illness in seagulls in recent weeks.

Work is underway to establish a protocol for monitoring the disease in cats to collect more detailed data on its course and occurrence, the agency said. The source of infection has not yet been identified.

To limit the risk of infection, Polands chief veterinary officer has advised owners to keep cats indoors, to prevent contact with wild animals, including birds, and to only feed them with food from known sources. At least 70 suspected cases are being investigated across Poland, according to figures released last week. In Gdask, which is part of the Tri-City region, officials reported at least 28 cases of unusual illnesses, including 25 deaths.

Even the most fearful among us seem to be unnerved by the new COVID variant. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention claims its tracking a new COVID variant called EU.1.1.

EU.1.1 is a subvariant of the omicron strain and according to the ruling class, currently accounts for about 1.7% of all U.S. cases.  According to the latest CDC figures, in six states, (Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming) it now accounts for 8.7% of cases. Utah accounts for the greatest number of infections with nearly 100 cases of EU. 1.1 reported by the states labs, reported AL.com. 

The largest COVID strain in the United States remains XBB.1.5, which accounts for about 27% of infections. XBB.1.9.2 and XBB.1.9.1 combine for about 24.4% of cases. There does not appear to be a large uptick in hospital admissions or emergency room visits in Utah due to EU.1.1 and reported nursing home cases there also remain low, according to a report by CBS News.

The Food and Drug Administration has also already instructed big pharma to make injections that target the XBB variant this fall.
