Full Moon in Virgo ~ Precision "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

From ColleenMarieHealing: The Moon is reaching its point of crescendo during this Pisces season in its opposite sign, Virgo. These two couldnt be more different, but the one thing that truly brings them together is the concept of healing. When Pisces energy dominates, we tend to be blissed out on our connection with the cosmos 24/7. We feel the Oneness of the Universe and the ocean of unconditional love so deeply that we would forget to, well, do anything practical at all. Not setting boundaries, not paying attention to the details, just in a la-la land of love. If were feeling this way lately - a little distracted, reflective, and a little confused - thats right on time. It is Pisces season, after all. And dont worry - smack-dab in the middle of it comes our Full Moon in Virgo, bringing us right back down to earth. The Virgo side of this axis is all about precision. Virgo can conceive of perfection, of things being just-so, in a way no other sign can. Virgo, an earth sign ruled by Mercury, thrives on tangible, measurable, efficient outcomes. It can be a little cut-throat and critical, but thats also its superpower - because we all need a healthy dose of reality sometimes. Now what does all of this have to do with healing? True healing requires a both/and approach. Its not the aptly named toxic positivity and spiritual bypassing of Pisces. Nor is it the strict dietary and medicinal interventions of Virgo. In fact, it is neither, and both. Because we need to address the Soul AND the body, in order for our healing to be effective. While Pisces positivity can indeed be toxic, it also can be life-affirming, loving, and deeply spiritual for the Soul. And Virgos health directives can be critical, but our bodies do require routine and honest assessments of habits and health. One is only bypassing when it isnt acknowledging the other. And the beauty of astrology is that the Full Moon each month doesnt let us get away with that! We may also be experiencing some lucky breakthroughs at this time, with Jupiter, Venus, and Chiron togethe...

Exploring The Five Best U.S. Cities For Bitcoin Enthusiasts "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

As Bitcoin adoption grows, some cities are embracing the technology as hubs for businesses, events and lifestyles tailored to Bitcoiners.

This is an opinion editorial by Jenna Hall, a content marketing specialist with residential real estate brokerage Redfin.

Bitcoin has taken the world by storm since its creation in 2009. In fact, about 46 million Americans own bitcoin. And as its popularity continues to grow, so does the desire for those adopting it to utilize it in their everyday lives.

As a result, several cities in the United States have emerged as hotspots for Bitcoin enthusiasts, entrepreneurs and investors. Take a look at five cities leading the way in Bitcoin adoption and innovation, and what makes them such attractive destinations for Bitcoiners.

Seattle, Washington

Washington State has a long history with Bitcoin and blockchain technology. In 2018, Wenatchee, a small town three hours east of Seattle, became an epicenter of bitcoin mining in the United States. Since then, cities in Washington like Seattle have seen a dramatic increase in both people and businesses interested in utilizing digital currencies.

Seattleites can buy and sell their digital assets at any of the 202 bitcoin ATMs in the city. Speaking of buying and selling, the state of Washington doesn't tax the purchase of bitcoin a unique advantage for Bitcoin enthusiasts living in the state.

Los Angeles, California

As a major center for technology and innovation, Los Angeles has a growing number of businesses and individuals experimenting with bitcoin and other digital currencies. Some individuals have even been able to successfully pay the rents for their apartments in Los Angeles using bitcoin.

The city has truly embraced the use of blockchain technology, with many boutiques, restaurants, toy stores, florists and other businesses accepting bitcoin as payment. In 2021, the iconic Staples Center was renamed Crypto.com arena, further cementing the relationship that bitcoin and other digital currencies have with the City of Los Angeles.

Miami, Florida

Miami mayor Francis Suarez has made it clear that hes an advocate of digital currencies and wants to make Miami the capital of crypto. In fact, in 2021, Mayor Suarez became the first American poli......

If you dont listen to rap, youve heard the same questions over and over in response to that confession. One of the most common is But have you heard De La Soul? which in recent years was easier said than done, at least on streaming platforms. What kept De Las tunes out of rotation was a frustrating morass of outdated contracts and record label parsimony, writes Oliver Wang at NPR. One complication had to do with sampling, a standard hip hop practice conducted in such a far-reaching, freewheeling, and elaborate manner by De La Soul that the prospect of renegotiating each and every sonic snippet theyd cleared in the CD-and-tape era inspired untold corporate intransigence.

But as of this month, all this has finally been rectified. The groups most important recordings are now legally available on the internet. None of them is more important than their debut, 3 Feet High and Rising, originally released in 1989 and added to the Library of Congress National Recording Registry in 2010.

Silvergate Solvency In Question As Crypto Banking Troubles Brew "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Silvergate clients flee as stock price plummets and regulatory questions mount across the industry. Options for crypto banking partners are dwindling.

The article below is an excerpt from a recent edition of Bitcoin Magazine PRO, Bitcoin Magazine's premium markets newsletter. To be among the first to receive these insights and other on-chain bitcoin market analysis straight to your inbox, subscribe now.

Trouble Brewing In Crypto-Land

Developments around crypto on- and off-ramps have been heating up, as Federal Reserve Member Bank Silvergate Capital watched its depositors flee and its stock price plummet. Along with Signature Bank, Silvergate is the other key U.S. bank that works closely with the crypto sector.

The reason for the extreme concentration of banking interests that are willing to deal in the crypto sector is the general lack of regulation around know-your-customer and anti-money laundering (KYC/AML) policy that exists in the industry for offshore entities, as well as the issues with the broader industry being rife with unregistered security offerings and plenty of fraud.

Of course, we believe there is a clear distinction between bitcoin and the broad term colloquially referred to as crypto, but the lines remain blurred for many regulators and government agencies.

Thus, there have historically been very few entities in the regulated U.S. banking system that have been willing to work with crypto firms to access established USD on- and off-ramps, which presents a unique challenge to companies who are in the business of moving money and/or processing payments and transactions.

In regards to Silvergate, we have been monitoring the situation closely since November after the collapse of FTX as it became apparent that Silvergate played a role in serving FTX and Alameda by giving them access to USD rails.

As we wrote on November 17, (emphasis added):

Who else is at the center of many institutions in the market? Silvergate Bank is one of those. Since the beginning of November, their stock is down nearly 56%. Silvergate Bank is at the nexus of banking services for the entire industry, servicing 1,677 digital asset customers with $9.8 billion in digital asset deposits. FTX accounted for less than 10% of deposits and the CEO has tried to reassure markets that their current loan book has faced zero losses or liquidations so far. Leveraged loans...

An autistic student in England was suspended from school and received death threats after allegedly desecrating a Quran. The incident began when the student lost a wager with friends and was told to purchase a Quran, which he brought to school and gave to another student who recited a passage. It was also revealed that an unrelated boy knocked the Quran off the students hands, causing it to fall on the floor. Afterward, the autistic student picked up the Quran and placed it in his bag. Rumors quickly spread that the Quran was thrown, spat on, and burned, but an independent Muslim counselor refuted these claims. Four students were suspended, and a meeting was held to discuss the incident and soothe the Muslim community. Bank Runs Quietly Continue to Increase Where Depositors Cannot Withdraw Their Funds "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

by Brian Shilhavy, While we have not seen a total collapse of the worldwide financial system yet, bank runs that began in 2022 with the collapse of FTX and the $billions that were lost when depositors were not able to withdraw their funds, continue to happen here in 2023, although they do not get headline news coverage. Last week, Pam Martens, writing for Wallstreet on Paradereported that bank runs were happening at Silvergate Bank, a U.S. FDIC insured bank.
Silvergate, a Federally Insured Bank, Just Blew Up from Ties to Crypto The one thing a depositor never wants to hear from a bank that is holding his or her life savings is that it has doubts about its ability to continue as a going concern. Unfortunately, those very words appeared in a filing made yesterday by Silvergate Capital with the Securities and Exchange Commission which pretty much guarantees that the ongoing run on deposits at Silvergate will continue with an added sense of urgency. Silvergate Capital is the owner of the federally-insured and taxpayer-backstopped bank, Silvergate Bank, which decided several years back that it would be a cool idea to become the go-to depository bank for crypto companies. One of those outfits was Sam Bankman-Frieds now collapsed house of fraud. Accounts at Silvergate Bank included Bankman-Frieds crypto exchange, FTX; his hedge fund, Alameda Research, which prosecutors say looted his FTX crypto exchange customers; and North Dimension, a fake company promoting itself as an online seller of mobile phones, when it was actually laundering money for Sam Bankman-Frieds crypto enterprises, according to federal prosecutors. Once the word got out about Silvergates ties to FTX and Bankman-Fried, a bank run ensued. (...

FTX Debtors Sue Grayscale Investments And Its Executives "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Grayscales CEO as well as owners Digital Currency Group and Barry Silbert allegedly violated trust agreements, according to the lawsuit.

Alameda Research Ltd., the hedge fund belonging to disgraced ex-billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried, is suing Grayscale Investments, LLC, its CEO, Michael Sonnenshein, and its owners, Digital Currency Group and Barry Silbert as a debtor affiliate of FTX.

According to a press release announcing the lawsuit, FTX Debtors are seeking injunctive relief to unlock $9 billion or more in value for shareholders of the Grayscale Bitcoin and Ethereum Trusts (the "Trusts") and realize over a quarter billion dollars in asset value for the FTX Debtors' customers and creditors.

The release describes how Grayscale has extracted more than $1.3 billion in management fees while violating trust agreements. In addition, the complaint alleges that Grayscale has for years hidden behind contrived excuses to prevent shareholders from redeeming their shares, with the firm's actions having resulted in shares trading at 50% discount to Net Asset Value.

If Grayscale reduced its fees and stopped improperly preventing redemptions, the lawsuit alleges, the FTX Debtors' shares would be worth at least $550 million, approximately 90% more than the current value of the FTX Debtors' shares today.

Grayscale has faced mounting pressure to make structural changes to the trust, including Valkyrie Investments seeking to take the reins of the trust. Grayscale CEO Michael Sonnenshein also stated in a letter to investors that should the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust fail to convert into an exchange-traded fund (ETF), potential moves could include a tender offer of 20% of the $10.7 billion trust.

As for FTX, which went bankrupt in November 2022, the quest to reacquire funds that could potentially rectify creditors goes on.

"We will continue to use every tool we can to maximize recoveries for FTX customers and creditors, stated John J. Ray III, CEO and Chief Restructuring Officer of the FTX Debtors. Our goal is to unlock value that we believe is currently being suppressed by Grayscale's self-dealing and improper redemption ban. FTX customers and creditors will benefit from additional recoveries, along with other Grayscale Trust investors that are being harmed by Grayscale's actions.

He had planned to divulge information to the American people that the security state did not agree with.

TN Action Alert HB394 Support Local Meat "IndyWatch Feed Food"

Tell House Committee Members to Vote YES on HB394

Support Local Meat in Tennessee (3/7 at 10:30am CST)

House Bill 394 (HB 394) which would establish a state meat inspection program in Tennessee, will be heard in the House Agricultural and Natural Resources Subcommittee on Tuesday March 7th at 10:30am Central.

There is currently a shortage of inspected slaughterhouses in Tennessee leading to an inability to meet the demand for locally produced meat. Since it is easier to get state-inspected slaughterhouses online than it is federally inspected facilities, HB 394 will help remedy the lack of slaughterhouse infrastructure which is one of the biggest weaknesses in Tennessees food system. HB 394 is the companion bill to Senate Bill SB123.

ACTION TO TAKE
Please contact the House Ag subcommittee members asking them to vote YES on HB 394. The committee meets Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. March 7th.

TN Action Alert HB 814 Support Local Businesses in Tenn. "IndyWatch Feed Food"

Tell House Subcommittee Members to Vote YES on HB 814

Support Local Businesses in Tennessee 3/7 hearing at 9am

House Bill 814 (HB 814) is before the House Commerce Committee and is scheduled for a hearing Tuesday, March 7th at 9am Central.

Food trucks are heavily regulated at the state and local level. To operate their businesses, food trucks must obtain state health permits. They must also obtain local licenses and permits in the cities where they operate. Local regulations vary from city to city, and as part of those processes, food trucks must also pass local fire inspections and, in many cities, obtain local fire permits. To obtain local fire permits, food trucks must physically bring their truck to the city to be inspectedwhich requires closing their business for several hours during the day when they ordinarily would be serving customers. These local inspections take place around the same time each year, causing food trucks to lose revenue at the start of each year. While some more established food trucks can absorb this kind of economic loss, newer trucks struggle with the loss of revenue.

HB 814 creates an optional state gold standard fire permit that the state fire marshal in the Department of Commerce and Insurance would create and issue. Thus, vastly reducing the amount of red tape a food truck must undergo to operate across the state of Tennessee by negating the need for fire inspections at the local level with the state created gold standard fire permit.

Remember they Want What we Have

The west has gradually begun the task of self-defeating occupation by uncivilized cultures allowed through the lies of migrant humanitarian relocation. Through wars in Syria and other Middle East regions of war, the UN and other non-governmental agencies, who stand to gain funding from a plethora of donors who for political reasons are happy to allow millions of illegal immigrants to trespass across our borders. From embedded terrorists, drug smugglers, human traffickers, fake family members, and criminals seeking asylum from the law of their lands, America has become a breeding ground for a silent takeover by a foreign occupation.Once again we've been lied to about the demographical make up of the migrants being supposedly women and children. Wrong! they are recruitment aged males! Why would they lie to us?

Great Britain has been overwhelmed by Muslim occupation that has now transformed their Judeo Christian values and form of government to an inflated caricature of President Trump in London when our president landed there for a visit. Thanks to the opposition allowed by a Muslim Mayor with terrorist ties. This disrespect only displays the ideological indifference that is taking precedent over the resident population of British citizens. One might recall how recent armies of Muslim migrants crossed the English Channel and almost immediately the British law enforcement was covering up cases of brutal rape and disappearances of young British women!

Terawulf Brings First Fully Nuclear-Powered Bitcoin Mining Operation In America Online "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

A joint venture with Cumulus Coin, LLC. has brought the first nuclear-powered Bitcoin mine online in Pennsylvania.

Terawulf has announced roughly half of its nuclear-powered Nautilus Cryptomine has come online. The mining facility, a joint venture with Cumulus Coin, LLC., derives its energy wholly from the 2.5 GW Susquehanna nuclear generation station in Pennsylvania.

The full operation will amount to 50 MW and 1.9 EH/s, with an option for Terawulf to add an additional 50 MW of bitcoin mining capacity, which the Company plans to deploy in future phases, according to a press release.

Paul Prager, chairman and CEO of TeraWulf, said that the recent energization of the Nautilus facility earlier this month, approximately 16,000 of TeraWulfs owned miners, representing 1.9 EH/s of self-mining capacity, are onsite and being brought online daily.

The Nautilus nuclear-powered mining facility benefits from what is arguably the lowest cost power in the sector, just $0.02/kWh for a term of five years, Prager commented.

Mining consultant and cofounder of Citadel 256, Magdalena Gronowska, previously described in an article for Bitcoin Magazine how nuclear power can revolutionize Bitcoin mining.

Nuclear is a carbon free, reliable and cheap energy source, she told the magazine. It's not perfect in that it emits nuclear waste, but every energy source has tradeoffs between environmental footprint, reliability and capital and operating costs We need a diverse mix of energy generation, to serve both baseload and peak load, as we transition to a low carbon economy.

Essay: 10 reasons the Republicans should end funding the war in Ukraine "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

This post was cencored, so it must have hit some sore nerves. Therefore it must be important:

Essay: 10 reasons the Republicans should end funding the war in Ukraine

The funding for the war in Ukraine by American taxpayers should end immediately. Why? Before I give the 10 reasons the Republicans should end funding the war in Ukraine immediately if they win control of the U.S Congress in the 2022 midterms, I will give a short introduction to the post-Soviet Union history of Ukraine which is very relevant to the current conflict in Ukraine.

Ukraine is a cleft country and cleft countries are often hotspots for conflict/war.

A cleft country is a nation with a fairly large and distinct cultural groupings as to have separated (e.g., Czechoslovakia or Yugoslavia), semi-separated (e.g., Sudan, Tanzania), or have a threat of separatism (e.g., Canada).[1]

Columbia Press gives the following description of the book Cleft Countries: Regional Political Divisions and Cultures in Post-Soviet Ukraine and Moldova:

"During the "Orange Revolution" in Ukraine, the second largest country in Europe came close to a violent break-up similar to that in neighboring Moldova, which witnessed a violent secession of the Transnistria region. Numerous elections, including the hotly contested 2004 presidential elections in Ukraine, and surveys of public opinion showed significant regional divisions in these post-Soviet countries. Western parts of Ukraine and Moldova, as well as the Muslim Crimean Tatars, were vocal supporters of independence, nationalist, and pro-Western parties and politicians. In contrast, Eastern regions, as well as the Orthodox Turkic-speaking Gagauz, consistently expressed pro-Russian and pro-Communist political orientations. Which factorshistorical legacies, religion, economy, ethnicity, or political leadershipcould explain these divisions? Why was Ukraine able to avoid a violent break-up, in contrast to Moldova? This is the first book to offer a systematic and comparative analysis of the regional political divisions in post-Soviet Ukraine and Moldova. The study examines voting behavior and political attitudes in two groups of regions: those which were under Russian, Ottoman, and Soviet rule; and those which were under Austro-Hungarian, Polish, Romanian, and Czechoslovak rule until World War I or World War II. This book attributes the regional political divisions to the differences in historical experience. This study helps us to better understand regional cleavages and conflicts, not only in Ukraine and Moldova, but also in other cleft countries.[2]"

Cleft countries, first used by Samuel Huntington in Clash of Civilizations, builds upon Arnold Toynbee's, A Study of History, Volume 9, Contacts between Civilizations in Space, first published in 1954.[3]

Nikkis Weekly Tarot Reading: March 6-12, 2023 "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The cards pictured are from the Crowley Thoth Tarot Deck.

Two of Cups and Knight of Cups

This week brings us a Full Moon in Virgo, which shares its healing and grounding energy. Through this moon, we are called to care for ourselves in ways perfectly aligned with our needs. This care will allow us to navigate the energy of the cosmos with greater strength.

The cards send some guidance to the ways that we are needing support and medicine. When reading the descriptions below, see what speaks to you and how you can apply this energy to what you need under this moon.

Our first card this week is the Two of Cups. This card is all about loving ourselves first and foremost before anyone else. It is about self-compassion and speaking lovingly to ourselves.

This card is also about falling in love: with a person, a job, a place, or with ourselves. We may feel uncertain if this will happen for us but the Two of Cups is here to tell us that we deserve it and it is coming if we are open. It might not mean you will fall in love with the person of your dreams tomorrow but it does mean that the opportunity for your heart to expand is on the horizon.

Feeling deserving of love has a lot to do with self-love. Self-love and self-acceptance are major parts of any relationship. If those things have been hard for you in the past the Two of Cups will help you to find a path to that place.

What once felt difficult to accept about yourself will feel easy to understand and nurture this week. You will feel a lightness and a tenderness that will help with love in all ways.

Ask yourself these questions when working with the Two of Cups: Can I speak with more love and kindness to myself? Can I raise my standards of who I let into my heart? Can I value loving myself just as much as loving others?

Take a moment to look in the mirror and say something loving about your body, mind, and spirit. Try interrupting your self-talk when you are about to say something negative and instead say something compassionate.

This type of positive behavior will cause loving energy to radiate out of you. When you are in a loving place with yourself, you will attract more loving energy in all areas of your life.

Our second card to support us this week is the Knight of Cups. Depicted on the card is a knight reaching toward a glowing chalice in the clouds. His determination is powerful, his energy is focused, and nothing can stop him from his path.

This card speaks to those times when we become hyperfocused on setting and reaching our goals, which can happen under all the cosmic energy at this moment. The card warns against attaching our worth as a person to our achievements and calls us to think about our goals more holistically.

If we are too narrow in our vision or want things to look perfect, we remove the chanc...

Help stop the World Health Organization power grab! "IndyWatch Feed Food"

A new bill titled the WHO Withdrawal Act, HR79, would rightfully require the President to immediately withdraw the United States from the World Health Organization (WHO) and prohibit using any federal funds to provide U.S. participation in the WHO.

Currently, the U.S. is involved in negotiations intended to strengthen the power of the corrupt WHO through an international treaty and updates to the International Health Regulations (IHR 2005).  This is very bad news!

The treaty and IHR amendments threaten U.S. and individual sovereignty by giving the WHO unlimited power to dictate health policy decisions, require U.S. financial support in the name of preparedness for future pandemics, and more.

Terminating U.S. participation in the WHO is necessary to prevent endless health emergencies, mandatory medical treatments, quarantines, travel restrictions, global health certificates, censorship, gain-of-function research, and billions of wasted tax dollars.

HR79 has been introduced in the U.S. House and is ready to move, but we need your support!

TAKE ACTION

  1. Contact your U.S. House Representative and ask him or her to support HR79.

You can find who represents you at: https://www.congress.gov/contact-us

Calls are more effective than emails and only take a few minutes.  Below is a Sample Script, and there are additional Talking Points. Use your own words when you call or email a personal message is always more effective than a form message!

SAMPLE SCRIPT:

Hi, my name is ___, and I am calling to ask Representative ___ to SUPPORT HR79.

This terrific bill would require the withdrawal of the U.S. from the WHO and prevent the funneling of billions of tax dollars to corrupt, unelected global decision-makers with a poor track record.

The WHO is attempting a dangerous power grab to create a worldwide medical police state that will control every primary care physician in America whenever the WHO declares a public health emergency.

It is widely accepted that the WHO mishandled the COVID response.  They cannot be trusted to dictate what constitutes a pandemic nor manage future responses to pandemics.

Giving more power to the dysfunctional WHO is a threat to national security and to the U.S. Constitution.  U.S. states...

The Mask Mandates Did Nothing. Will Any Lessons Be Learned? "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The most rigorous and comprehensive analysis of scientific studies conducted on the efficacy of masks for reducing the spread of respiratory illnesses including Covid-19 was published late last month. Its conclusions, said Tom Jefferson, the Oxford epidemiologist who is its lead author, were unambiguous. "There is just no evidence that they" masks "make any difference," he told the journalist Maryanne Demasi. "Full stop." But, wait, hold on. What about N-95 masks, as opposed to lower-quality surgical or cloth masks? "Makes no difference none of it," said Jefferson. These observations don't come from just anywhere. Jefferson and 11 colleagues conducted the study for Cochrane, a British nonprofit that is widely considered the gold standard for its reviews of health care data. The conclusions were based on 78 randomized controlled trials, six of them during the Covid pandemic, with a total of 610,872 participants in multiple countries. And they track what has been widely observed in the United States: States with mask mandates fared no better against Covid than those without. People may have good personal reasons to wear masks, and they may have the discipline to wear them consistently. Their choices are their own. But when it comes to the population-level benefits of masking, the verdict is in: Mask mandates were a bust. The mainstream experts and pundits who supported mandates were wrong.

Trial of Mexico's Former Top Cop Neglected U.S. Role in War on Drugs "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Genaro Garca Luna, Mexico's former top law enforcement official known as the "architect" of the Mexican side of the drug war, was found guilty in New York federal court of collaborating with the Sinaloa cartel, the biggest organized crime group in North America. For years, Garca Luna was the U.S. government's most trusted ally in the war on drugs. As public security secretary, he wielded incredible power, overseeing Mexico's Federal Police, the prison network, and a vast intelligence-gathering infrastructure, while working with the Drug Enforcement Administration, FBI, CIA, and Department of Homeland Security in the fight against Mexican cartels. The case portrayed Garca Luna and his network of corrupt officials as a handful of bad apples, and what U.S. officials knew about Garca Luna's illicit activities went mostly unexplored, despite the government's role in providing funding, equipment, and training that has fueled drug-related violence. Garca Luna was found guilty of all five charges, including drug trafficking and continuing a criminal enterprise. Prosecutors alleged that he received around $274 million in bribes from the cartel from 2001 to 2012, first as head of the Federal Investigative Agency, the Mexican equivalent of the FBI, and then as secretary of public security. Garca Luna left public office in 2012 following a change in presidency and moved to Miami where he started a security consulting company and lived a lavish lifestyle.

'Extinction is on the table': Jaron Lanier warns of tech's existential threat to humanity "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Jaron Lanier, the eminent American computer scientist, composer and artist, is no stranger to skepticism around social media. The web is not a free market of information as originally envisioned. It is a gamed system being rampantly abused. [Lanier] helped create modern ideologies Web 2.0 futurism, digital utopianism, among them. But Lanier is no longer a fan of how the digital utopia is coming along. He's called it "digital Maoism" and accused tech giants like Facebook and Google of being "spy agencies". In his latest thinking Lanier draws attention to Harvard psychologist BF Skinner's theories of "operant conditioning", or behavior controlled by its consequences, otherwise known as behavior modification. In Skinner's studies, lab rats were subjected alternately to electric shocks and treats to achieve a change in response. On social media, he says, we experience something similar. Approval, disapproval or being ignored, such techniques can be manipulated online as part of what is euphemistically called "engagement" and the creation of addictive patterns for individuals and then by proxy eventually whole societies. "As we enter an era where nothing means anything because it's all just about power, intermediation and influence, it's very hard to put ideas out and very easy for them to come across not as intended," he said. "I do believe that our survival depends on modifying the internet to create a structure that is friendlier to human cognition and to the ways people really are."

How the Supreme Court could re-shape the internet as you know it "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Passed in 1996, Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act sought to foster the growth of the early internet. Congress created a special form of legal immunity for websites so they could develop uninhibited by lawsuits that might suffocate the ecosystem. In the time since, companies ... have invoked Section 230 to nip user-content lawsuits in the bud, arguing, usually successfully, that they are not responsible for the content their users create. Democrats say the law has given websites a free pass to overlook hate speech and misinformation; Republicans say it lets them suppress right-wing viewpoints. The Supreme Court [is] reviewing Section 230; Congress and the White House have also proposed changes to the law. Understanding how the internet may work differently without Section 230 ... starts with one, simple concept: Shrinking the liability shield means exposing websites and internet users to more lawsuits. A Supreme Court ruling restricting immunity for recommendations could mean any decision to like, upvote, retweet or share content could be identified as a "recommendation" and trigger a viable lawsuit. One option would be to preemptively remove any and all content that anyone, anywhere could even remotely allege is objectionable ... reducing the range of allowed speech on social media. Another option would be to stop moderating content altogether, to avoid claims that a site knew or should have known that a piece of objectionable material was on its platform.

As crime-solving goes hi-tech, public defenders scramble to keep up "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Caleb Kenyon, a defense attorney in Florida, saw a geofence warrant was when a new client received an alarming email from Google in January 2020. Police were requesting personal data from the client, Zachary McCoy, and Kenyon had just seven days to stop Google from turning it over, the email said. The geofence warrant included a map and GPS coordinates, and instructed Google to provide identifying information for every user whose device was found within the radius of that location at a certain date and time. "It was so bizarre that I just didn't even have a concept for what I was dealing with," he said. Kenyon is not alone. As tech firms build ever more sophisticated means of surveilling people and their devices technology that law enforcement is eager to take advantage of the legal community is scrambling to keep up. The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) ... recently created the Fourth Amendment Center, named for the constitutional right against unreasonable searches. The center is one of the few resources available for helping attorneys better understand how new technology is being used against their clients. It can be years before the defense community catches wind of the newest surveillance tools. Unlike other search warrants, geofence warrants don't require probable cause or a specific suspect in mind; they gather information on anyone within the vicinity of an alleged crime. Advocates argue this violates the fourth amendment.

Three Years Late, the Lancet Recognizes Natural Immunity "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The Lancet medical journal this month published a review of 65 studies that concluded prior infection with Covidi.e., natural immunityis at least as protective as two doses of mRNA vaccines. "Immunity acquired from a Covid infection is as protective as vaccination against severe illness and death, study finds," NBC reported on Feb. 16. The study found that prior infection offered 78.6% protection against reinfection from the original Wuhan, Alpha or Delta variants at 40 weeks, which slipped to 36.1% against Omicron. Protection against severe illness remained around 90% across all variants after 40 weeks. These results exceed what other studies have found for two and even three mRNA doses. This comes after nearly three years of public-health officials' dismissing the same hypothesis. But now that experts at the University of Washington have confirmed it in a leadingand left-leaningjournal, it's fit to print. The Lancet study's vindication of natural immunity fits a pandemic pattern: The public-health clerisy rejects an argument that ostensibly threatens its authority; eventually it's forced to soften its position in the face of incontrovertible evidence; and yet not once does it acknowledge its opponents were right. The concept of natural immunity isn't scientifically controversial, yet it was disparaged by public-health officials who associated it with opposition to lockdowns and the Great Barrington Declaration in autumn 2020.

The CDC's Long-Covid Deception "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Consider a recent study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that claims to find that nearly 36% of Covid cases among students, faculty and staff at George Washington University resulted in "long Covid." The study suggests ... that the unvaccinated were at more than twice as high a risk of developing long Covid as those fully vaccinated who had gotten boosters. This sounds plausible. But drill down, and it becomes clear that the evidence is too thin to draw any conclusions. The study ... doesn't include a control group. The finding that nearly 36% reported long Covid symptoms is meaningless without such a sample to determine how common such symptoms were among people who never had Covid. Long Covid in general isn't well-defined, but the study defines it expansively to include problems common among college studentsdifficulty making decisions, fatigue, anxiety, sadness, trouble sleeping and the catch-all "other symptoms." If a student reported at least one physical or psychological problem, he was classified as having long Covid. A CDC survey in January 2021 reported that 57% of respondents between 18 and 29 had experienced anxiety or depression within the previous seven days. A November 2021 study ... found that many people with persistent physical symptoms that are commonly ascribed to long Covid didn't test positive for antibodies. A belief that one had Covid was more strongly associated with physical symptoms than a lab-confirmed infection.

The pandemic spawned a better model for family courts "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

With the recent news that the Biden administration will end the COVID-19 public health emergencies this spring, it is time to take stock of the different policies and adaptations that came out of the lockdowns. Initially ... the lockdowns meant that courts were shut down in most states, creating long waits and lack of access to vital judicial proceedings. But the courts quickly pivoted. Despite initial technological challenges, the switch to remote family court hearings saved time and money, increased participation in court proceedings, improved legal representation for families living in rural areas, and created a more welcoming environment for children. This week, the American Enterprise Institute is releasing a report, authored by Maura Corrigan, former director of Michigan Health and Human Services, explaining what we can learn from how these courts operated and what practices we should use in the post-pandemic era. Major studies done on remote hearings found benefits to the practice, particularly in terms of participation. Parties to these hearings appreciated the end of "cattle call" docketing, which forced participants to wait (in person) until their case was called a significant waste of time and resources for parties, attorneys, witnesses, the public and the judges. Under the new remote system, the times for these hearings were precise, wasting neither the time nor the resources of any parties to the case. There were also many anecdotal reports that children felt more comfortable in remote hearings.

As Public Trust Wanes, FDA Pledges to 'Save Lives' by Policing Online Content "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Since U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Dr. Robert Califf began his second tenure as the agency's head in February 2022, he has made combating "misinformation" one of his top priorities, arguing it is "a leading cause of preventable death in America now" though "this cannot be proved," he said. In an interview ... Califf, who also headed the FDA between 2016 and 2017, reiterated his pledge to "save lives" by policing online content. The FDA may be facing an uphill battle, as multiple factors are combining to foster public mistrust toward the agency. For instance, in January, Frank Yiannas, the FDA's deputy commissioner for food policy and response, resigned over concerns about the FDA's oversight structure. A 2022 study by The BMJ found that the FDA gets 65% of its funding for drug evaluation from industry user fees, while another 2022 study found that 95% of the members of an HHS committee that establishes dietary guidelines for Americans have one or more conflicts of interest with industry actors. Members of the FDA's Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee have also been found to have conflicts of interest with the very pharmaceutical companies and vaccine manufacturers they are meant to be regulating. And while public health authorities in other countries have begun to come forward with admissions that the COVID-19 vaccines resulted in cases of myocarditis and death, no such admissions appear to be forthcoming from the FDA at this time.

The CDC Is Breaking Trust in Childhood Vaccination "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

On June 18, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) officially recommended Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines for all children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years. While the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is the agency responsible for authorizing emergency use of vaccines, it's the CDC that crafts subsequent messaging, makes specific recommendations, and prioritizes who can, should, or should not get vaccinated. In her briefing, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky strongly urged all parents of the nearly 20 million American children in this age group to vaccinate them as soon as possible. There remains ... no solid consensus among physicians about the importance of vaccinating healthy children against COVID-19. In a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) meeting on June 28, Pfizer Vice President for Viral Vaccines Kena Swanson even acknowledged that "there is no established correlate" between antibody levels and protection from disease. Approval for the COVID vaccines in infants and toddlers is based on two trials that used changes in antibody levels as an estimate of efficacy, but did not assess protection from severe disease, hospitalization, or multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), important outcomes that parents worry about. Additionally, neither trial met the 50% efficacy requirement established by the FDA for approval of adult COVID vaccines. More puzzling is the fact that ... the pediatric vaccines now being administered target an outdated variant.

This Minecraft library is making censored journalism accessible all over the world "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Minecraft has established itself as a cultural phenomenon for many reasons: it's creative, collaborative, and sufficiently facile as to be considered accessible to almost anybody. These benefits ... form the perfect vehicle for Reporters Without Borders' Uncensored Library, a virtual hub housing a collection of otherwise inaccessible journalism from all over the world, with specific sections devoted to Russia, Egypt, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and Vietnam. "In Egypt there's no free information," Reporters Without Borders media and public relations officer Kristin Bsse tells me. Mexico is the country where journalists are most at risk, she adds, with governmental and cartel interference often culminating in the death of those voices deemed dissident. "It's a different form of censorship," Bsse explains. "People don't want to publish because they're scared." "In the Mexico room we built memorials to 12 Mexican journalists who have been murdered," [said Blockworks managing director James] Delaney. Delaney tells me that the forms of censorship in Egypt are more blatant. "The articles you see in this room are actually banned," he explains. "If you live in Egypt you're unable to access them unless you come to our Minecraft server." This is the case for the Russian, Vietnamese, and Saudi Arabian sections, too. "The content you find in these rooms is illegal, but we can see from the server logins that we've already had people from all five of these countries join and read up on this information," he says.

How to Fix TwitterAnd All of Social Media "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Those debating the future of Twitter and other social-media platforms have largely fallen into two opposing camps. One supports individuals' absolute freedom of speech; the other holds that speech must be modulated through content moderation, and by tweaking the ways in which information spreads. Both sides are peddling an equally dismal vision. My purpose here is to point out a logical third option. In this approach, a platform would require users to form groups through free association, and then to post only through those groups. This simple, powerful notion could help us escape the dilemma of supporting online speech. Platforms like Facebook and Reddit have similar structuresgroups and subredditsbut those are for people who share notifications and invitations to view and post in certain places. The groups I'm talking about, sometimes called "mediators of individual data" or "data trusts," are different: Members would share both good and bad consequences with one another, just like a group shares the benefits and responsibilities of a loan in microlending. This mechanism has emerged naturally ... on the software-development platform GitHub. Whatever its size, each group will be self-governing. Some will have a process in place for reviewing items before they are posted. Others will let members post as they see fit. It will be a repeat of the old story of people building societal institutions and dealing with unavoidable trade-offs, but people will be doing this on their own terms.

Can We Build Less Biased Medical Bots? "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Avery Smith ... and LaToya, a podiatrist, tied the knot in 2008. A year and a half into their marriage ... she was diagnosed with Stage 2A Melanoma. A minor surgical procedure is usually enough to cure it. But the following 18 months were revealing for Smith; on December 9th, 2011, LaToya died. He was left scarred by the experience: "I learned about going through illness while being Black," he says. Today, over a decade later, Smith is putting his skills as a software developer to work in an effort to end the racial bias and inequity in skin care that contributed to his wife's death. In 2021, he launched Melalogic, a Baltimore-based startup that provides skin health resources to people with dark skin. A 2016 study shows that the five-year survival rate of Black people with skin cancer is 65 percent, compared to 92 percent for white people. The problem is rooted in racial inequities and biases in medical research and technology. In skin cancers, for instance, AI systems have been used to drastically improve diagnosis. However, these are mostly helpful to white people because diagnostic AI datasets are trained with images of white skin. Smith teamed up with dermatologist Dr. Adewole Adamson to conduct a research project, endorsed by the American Medical Association, on machine learning and health care disparities in dermatology. It was from the research's findings that Smith conceived Melalogic, an app ... dedicated to providing Black people with skin health resources.

On Novocain "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

From the collection of the State Library of New South Wales. Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons.

Ive been clean for over twenty years. Let me give you an example of the kind of problem addiction is, the scale of the thing. In April 2019 I went to the dentist. I had a mild ache in a molar. He said the whole tooth was totally rotted all the way through, that they couldnt do anything more with it. It was hopeless. The tooth was a total piece of shit and would have to be extracted. He gave me the number of a dental surgeon and I called and made an appointment. I talked to my dad, whod had many teeth extracted, and he told me it was no big deal. When I got to the dental surgeons office I told him that Im a recovering addict, and that I wanted to avoid opiate painkillers. He looked in my mouth and when he got out he said, Youre going to need opiate painkillers.

Then he shot me up with Novocain and he went in there with a wrench, and I realized that dentists have soft, delicate hands and seem like doctors, like intellectuals, but when you really need dental care, you go to a dental surgeon and their main qualification is brute physical strength.

This guy had white hair and arms the size of my legs, and he put the pliers on me and wrenched and wrenched and wrenched, and despite the Novocain, the pain was like a hundred Hitlers gnawing on my nerves, gnawing them right down to the roots and then just sinking Nazi teeth up to the hilt in my brain. There was blood everywhere. I was making horrible sounds out of my throat, and the dental surgeon was saying just hold on for one more second, saying it through gritted teeth, and I was writhing in my chair with tears pouring out of my eyes.

Then it w...

Germans Warned To Expect Power Cuts By 2030 "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

Germanys energy crisis continues to worsen and power cuts are coming. The country could face an electricity shortage in the next two years as its own energy resources become increasingly insufficient and demand rises.

Germanys Public Now Favors Nuclear Power

Not to mention, the Nord Stream pipeline destruction that devastated the already hammered energy supply. Welt am Sonntag reported on Sunday, citing a local McKinsey study, that by 2025 the country will lack some four gigawatts of power capacity, while by 2030 the deficit will increase to 30 gigawatts, according to a report by RT.

So were heading toward a significant shortage: 30GW corresponds to the capacity of about 30 large thermal power plants, the study warned. Analysts claim the country will not be able to cover its energy needs with its own resources at peak loads, and by 2030 up to 100 power outages may occur, with the longest phase lasting about 21 hours. The analysts also warned that Berlin will not be able to give up gas in the next ten years.

Our scenario analysis shows that natural gas will have to play a role in the electricity mix in the future. It is therefore important to reduce import dependency by diversifying suppliers. Part of the strategy must also be to make more green hydrogen available for power generation, analysts stated, adding that Germany must also ensure it can obtain electricity from neighboring European countries, which requires innovation and expansion of networks.

Russia: Evidence U.S. Is Guilty Of Destroying Nord Stream Is More Than A Smoking Gun

The McKinsey study contradicts a recent report by the countrys Federal Network Agency (funded by the ruling class), which said the power supply would be secure for the next decade even if electricity consumption increases significantly.

Bloomberg reported that by 2030 Germany will have to spend at least $1 trillion to increase energy production from renewable sources. The German grid regulator and think tank Agora Energiewende estimates that Germany will face a one-third increase in demand by 2030, which means the countrys power plants will need to generate about 250 gigawatts of additional electricity by that time.

Van Dyck Painting Bought for 600 Dollars Sells for Three Million at Auction

In the late-20th century, someone discovered a mysterious, beautiful painting in a farm shed in Kinderhook, New York. The oil on wood work depicted a slouched, nude man. Purchased originally for $600, the painting was later identified by scholars as an early study by Anthony van Dyck in preparation for his work St. Jerome. With this recognition, it recently sold for an impressive $3.1 million at a Sotheby's auction.

The person who found [the painting], Albert B. Roberts, was a passionate collector of lost' pieces, describing his collection as an orphanage for lost art that had suffered from neglect,' said Sotheby's. Art historian Susan J. Barnes identified it as a surprisingly well preserved work by Van Dyck, the Flemish Renaissance painter who lived from 1599 to 1641. The work is a rare early study between 1615 and 1618. At the time, the young artist was working alongside the incredible Peter Paul Rubens in Antwerp.

Put up for auction by Robert's estate, the painting's profits gave back to the artistic community. Part of the proceeds was donated to the Albert B. Roberts Foundation Inc, which supports artists. Works by Agnolo Bronzino, Titian (who influenced Van Dyck), and Melchior de Hondecoeter also sold at the auction.

The final painting for which the Van Dyck was a study can be viewed at the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam. Van Dycks' other works, including richly detailed...

At Northern Lightning 2023, Norway May Offer The Wildest Bitcoin Experience Yet "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Norway is putting on a major Bitcoin conference with high-signal speakers, topped off with an otherworldly rave running on Lightning.

This is an opinion editorial by Erik Dale, an organizer of the upcoming Northern Lightning Conference and host of a Scandinavian Bitcoin podcast.

Source

Scandinavia may not be the first region that comes to mind when you think of Bitcoin, but tiny Norway has become the biggest bitcoin mining hub in Europe.

With less than 0.07% of world population, the Norwegians churn out nearly 3% of Bitcoins global hash rate, mostly thanks to cheap, stranded and renewable hydropower in the north.

And now, Norway is hosting the worlds most Bitcoin experience (sic): Northern Lightning 2023.

A Pure-Signal Conference

Northern Lightning 2023 will take place in Bergen, Norway from March 17 to 19, from the 17th to the 19th of March, and the Norwegians are going all out, it seems.

Everything has been designed for and by Bitcoiners, from the keynotes, to the food, to the parties, to the merch. Merch will be limited to 21 numbered copies, of course. Our vision is to create an annual, intimate experience bringing Bitcoin to a new Nordic city each year, until hyperbitcoinization is achieved and beyond.

Source

This first edition will be a three-day Bitcoin conference in a historical setting among the dramatic scenery and wooden harbors of Bergen, headlined by the greatest minds in Bitcoin, with the opportunity to orange pill hundreds of no-coiners at a massive party running on the Lightning Network.

Explosion and Pressure by Julien Boudet at Art Dubai, UAE "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

San Projects, a highly regarded production company, has partnered with Stems Gallery to produce an awe-inspiring art installation in Dubai. Featuring the works of renowned French multidisciplinary artist, Julien Boudet, the installation includes two thought-provoking sculptures, Explosion, 2023 and Pressure, 2023, which challenge visitors perceptions of reality.

Inspired by Boudets passion for car culture in Dubai, the two sculptures pay tribute to the iconic Mercedes G Wagon, the citys most popular car. Drawing on Boudets passion for basketball and the iconic AMG logo, the sculptures explore the concepts of accumulation and compression, creating a giant counterfeit AMG basketball and playing with logos and bootleg culture, which is prevalent in Dubai.

Mind-Bending Gate Design Is an Optical Illusion Extending Back Into Space

Optical Illusion Gate

Photo: Wikimedia Commons (Public domain)

A gate in Vienna, Austria, is an optical illusion. Utilizing a one-point perspective, it appears to extend back into space and makes it look like the actual wrought iron gate is much farther down the path. But thanks to its clever use of line and scale, it all sits on a flat plane.

The mind-bending gate leads to the grounds of the Theresianum Academy, a private boarding and day school founded in 1746 by Empress Maria Theresa of Austria. It has more than 100 students ranging from elementary school to upper school (high school).

The trompe-l'il embedded within the gate is a great lesson in perspective for the students. It demonstrates how one point can trick our eye into thinking that something is farther away than it actually is. They can see this in practice when the gate opens; the extended landscape is not protruding into the distance. It's right in front of them, all at once.

A mind-bending wrought iron gate design in Vienna, Austria, uses a one-point perspective to create the illusion of depth.

Well, I mean, it was a huge battleship or something kinda tilted on its side. And it was an old one, continued Mr. Cornys. From a distance, I thought it was smoke from a fire or something because there was smoke, you know? But as I got closer, this thing was massive. It was the length of a football field and Id say 100 feet high at the mast. It was just sitting there like it had always been there. My Suzy began to bark at it. Thank god I had my iPhone on me and was able to get a couple of pictures.

Community Shares | March 6th 2023 "IndyWatch Feed Fertility"

  • A recent research article indicates that children with ASD and GI symptoms have an immune system response imbalance that manifests in their circulating plasma cytokine levels. The author, Paul Ashwood, Ph.D., suggests that children with ASD and GI symptoms may be a subgroup of the disorder and that targeted treatments could be developed to help this distinct group. His team believes that two areas of potential treatments for this subgroup should be explored, either decreasing inflammatory cytokines or increasing immune regulation.
  • The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded UC Davis MIND Institute researchers $1.35 million to study the effects of wildfire smoke exposure on pregnant mothers and their developing babies. The research team is gathering birth and health records along with data concerning wildfire smoke exposure in California. The team will search for links between pollution from wildfire smoke and low birth weight, developmental delays, and autism.
  • According to a new American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR) report, the nations disability service system is on the brink of collapse. The report details how programs are closing, leaving people with developmental disabilities with nowhere to go, and how providers are failing to meet federal requirements. Specifically, the report shows that over 481,000 people were on waiting lists for home and community-based services at the end of 2021. Survey data from last year showed that more than 60% of provi...

Review Finds People with Autism Have a Higher Prevalence of Parkinsonism "IndyWatch Feed Health"

A Higher Rate of Parkinsons Disease Also Discovered in Older Adults with ASD

Researchers from the University of Singapore have recently published a systematic review evaluating the clinical and genetic associations between autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and parkinsonian features. The team discovered that individuals with ASD have a higher prevalence of parkinsonism, including Parkinsons disease (PD) for older adults, than age-matched controls. Parkinsonism is a set of brain conditions that cause slowed movements, rigidity (stiffness), and tremors. The researchers identified several genes, most notably PARK2, that are linked with both ASD and PD, including individuals carrying specific rare genetic variants presenting with autistic behavior and parkinsonism. They also found that other PD-related gene loci, such as RIT2, CD157/BST1, GPCR37, and the SLC gene family could result in autistic behavior and parkinsonism. Rare genetic mutations (such as ATP13A2, CLN3, and WDR45) could also contribute to the same outcome. The review highlighted that sex differences might play a role in the presentation of parkinsoni...

This lawyers hilarious reverse ferret on GB News is one of the all-time great comedy U-turns "IndyWatch Feed Satire"

We hesitate to direct you towards GB News but in this case well make an exception (and an extremely worthwhile exception it is too).

Its layer Jonathan Coad who went on GB News to talk about Matt Hancock, Isabel Oakeshott and all those WhatsApp messages.

He was furious when he was introduced by presenter Steve N Allen as the lawyer who was actually asked to represent Matt Hancock.

Coad paused for a moment before saying: Yes, Im going to have to say, thats disappointing. Because I made it absolutely clear to your programme I asked them not to disclose that, and that is very, very poor journalism.

And, well, best have a watch for yourself. And when we say watch to the end, you really do have to watch to the end.
