About This Desk

This is a very simple desk, made using 2x6 legs and a 1x top.  The modern styling creates a beautiful frame for your decor and compliments your space.

This desk can be painted or stained any color.

More Plans in This Collection

I love this style so much, I made more plans in this collection.  I'll keep adding to it - it is a beautiful style!

How I Build This Desk

This desk was a pretty easy build.  I used a pocket hole jig to make the piece look more professional, with all hidden joints.  The pocket hole jig also made it more sturdy.  If you don't have a pocket hole jig, watch how I made the matching coffee table with just a brad nailer.

First, I build the tabletop surface in the size I wanted.

Then I used a jigsaw to cut out the corners of the tabletop for the legs to show through.

how to build a desk

Then, I measured and cut the 1x4 side aprons, and drilled 3/4" pocket holes on the ends and facing upward (pictured upside down above).  I attach the 1x4 apron to the underside of the tabletop with 1-1/4" pocket holes.

Essential Two Step Stool "IndyWatch Feed Diy"

This stool might look a little complicated, but I promise you - if you can squeeze a jigsaw trigger, you can make it.  It's just sides cut from a 1x12, a 1x12 bottom step, a 1x6 top step, and some 1x2s in there for extra support.  Once you get it cut out, it's like 10 minutes to make.

It's got a full, wide bottom step, so I have found myself even using it.

Durable Finish

Not only has this step stool held up well in sturdiness, but the finish really is amazing me.  The stool is still in very good shape for ten years of use!

Our power sander won't sand a curved cut, so these sanding pads work pretty good.

Another note - I was able to get a pretty good jigsaw cut on the two sides by using a fresh wood blade and clamping the two sides together and cutting as one.  This really helps minimize the need for sanding.

After vacuuming the step stool ... we are ready for primer!

I used this Glidden Trim and Door paint and am amazed at how well the finish has held up.  It was a paint to use because it's oil based, but so worth it.

I'll admit, I was a little nervous when I peeked in the paint room and took a look in the can - the paint seperates out so you must mix it.  Nothing a little gentle stirring can't fix.

Personal Integrity

Personal Integrity is the quality of being truthful and honest with yourself and others, of intentionally aligning personal behaviors and actions to be congruent with your own Personal Value System, moral principles, and ethics. It generally requires personal choice and commitment to align ourselves and to stay consistent with personal values and ethical standards, so that when we speak we mean what we say. Developing Personal Integrity is essential to becoming a stable, clear and trustworthy person that aligns their decisions in life with their chosen personal values. It is the milestone of building strong character, which is guided by ones chosen personal values. Behold 900+ Magnificent Botanical Collages Created by a 72-Year-Old Widow, Starting in 1772 "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

I have invented a new way of imitating flowers, Mary Delany, a 72-year-old widow wrote to her niece in 1772 from the grand home where she was a frequent guest, having just captured her hostess geraniums likeness, by collaging cut paper in a nearly identical shade.

Novelty rekindled the creative fire her husbands death had dampened.

Former pursuits such as needlework, silhouette cut outs, and shell decorating went by the wayside as she dedicated herself fully to her botanical-themed paper mosaicks.

Humpty Dumpty Is Not A Giant Egg. Heres What People Think It Actually Is. "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

If you think too hard about them, most classic fairy tales, rhymes, and childrens stories seem to have a dark side. Some of them are super obvious, and while you might have dismissed Humpty Dumpty as a strange tale about a sentient egg, the internet is here to ask you to think again.

The discussion began when bestselling author Holly Bourne observed that it was odd that we had all decided Humpty Dumpty was an egg in the first place.

Its not in the lyrics, and deciding hes a giant egg is quite a random leap for someone to make, and everyone else being like, yeah, a giant egg on a wall. Of course.

Shes right, too his appearance and/or form is never mentioned in the original nursery rhyme. That said, the fact that Lewis Carroll depicted him as an egg in Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass is probably where the lasting association began.

A New Dutch Reality TV Show Challenges Contestants to Paint Like Vermeerand Its a Hit! "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Jokes about reality television being a contradiction in terms go as far back in pop-culture history as the format itself. But the fact remains that, deliberately or otherwise, its programs do reflect certain characteristics of the societies that produce them. Before turning into one of the most globally successful franchises of this centurys reality-TV boom, the once-controversial strangers-in-a-house show Big Brother premiered in the Netherlands. It will be left as an exercise to the reader what that says about the Dutch, who have been tuning in to a very different kind of reality programming in the past month: De Nieuwe Vermeer, or The New Vermeer.

Aired in conjunction with the Rijksmuseums largest Vermeer exhibition ever staged, the show invites two professional painters and dozens of amateur artists to compete to reinvent the lost works of the 17th-century master, writes the New York Times Nina Siegal.

Is She Wrong for Publicly Humiliating Her Mom? People Shared Their Thoughts. "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Have you ever humiliated someone in public?

And it could have been someone you know or didnt know?

Yeah, when that happens, people tend to get pretty upset, you know what Im saying?

So thats why this woman asked the readers on Reddits Am I the A**hole? page if they thought she was out of line for humiliating her mom in public.

Oh, boylets see what happened.

AITA for publicly humiliating my mom?

I was contemplating whether to post this for a while but now Im curious.

Im 24f and I have a half brother Ethan who is 17.

When I was 16, our mother married her new husband and has 2 kids with him. Ethans father isnt in his life so he stays with them full time but I spend more time with my dad and his family because I just get along with them better. I love my mom but she can be a bit much sometimes so I rarely see her. Ethan and I text occasionally.

It was my mothers birthday a few days ago and while I was visiting I noticed that Ethan and my newborn half sibling werent around. I asked my mom where they were at and she said that she asked Ethan to check up on the baby while she took a break. We were all in the backyard btw which is MASSIVE.

But yeah ok no biggie.

But some time later I still couldnt find him and so I went to Ethans room and hes rocking the baby while shes inconsolable and hes crying too because she wont stop. There were diapers and baby formula everywhere and he was saying that he tried everything but she wont stop.

I managed to calm them both down somehow and asked Ethan why he didnt just call someone for help. He said that hes usually really good at this and mom makes him take care of the baby all the time so he just panicked. He then told me that he helped out with our...

Editor's Note: I still love much of the material in the Zeitgeist films. For instance I love the material in the first film regarding the the 9/11 truth movement and the activist efforts to abolish the federal reserve system. That said the Zeitgeist movement the films started seems to be rebranded communism to myself and many others. That said, this post has nothing to do with that. I'm a real truther and will debunk anybody that I determine are spreading falsehoods. Ukraine has Become the Model Worldwide for Digital IDs and the Complete Digital Transformation of Society "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

by Brian Shilhavy, Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDC) have received a lot of attention in recent weeks, in both the alternative and corporate media, as pushback against them mounts. We reported last year that credit union and banking trade groups released a joint letter to the chair and ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee, warning of devastating consequences if the Federal Reserve moves forward with a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). Even the Wall Street Journal recently published an opinion piece warning against the implementation of CBDCs. China is further ahead than the U.S. in rolling out their Central Bank Digital Yuan, but they have had such a hard time getting people to use it, that they started giving it away during the recent Lunar New Year celebrations. Replacing a monetary system and convincing businesses and consumers to stop doing business and stop using cash, is not something that is going to be adopted overnight, and as we can see, there is going to be major pushback against this. However, the goal of a digitized society that requires a digital ID to participate in society and allows the government to pretty much track everything you do, can most certainly be accomplished without the full implementation of CBDCs, and in fact it is already happening in one country: Ukraine. Ukraine rolled out their digital ID and digital transformation program in 2014, which then kicked into high gear in 2020 when COVID was unleashed, and is now almost complete thanks to the war, and help from Elon Musk who provided satellites to connect all the Ukriane people to the Internet and the adoption of the Diia app. So while everyone has been worried about CBDCs and their loss of privacy in such an economic system, Ukraine has already developed a digital transformation of society that is now the example worldwide of how a government can track all of its citizens, even without a CBDC. About 9 years in development now, Ukraine is probably the model country on how to make a complete digital transformation of socie...

Unofficial World Record Set For Highest Amount of P2P Bitcoin Lightning Transactions Paid In 3 Minutes "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The Praia Bitcoin experiment set a record with P2P transactions occurring every three seconds.

On February 18, 2023, a new world record for peer-to-peer (P2P) bitcoin transactions was established using the Lightning Network. The Praia Bitcoin experiment, a Brazilian nonprofit social project, was able to perform 71 P2P bitcoin transactions in just 3 minutes and 33 seconds, making it the largest number of P2P bitcoin transactions via Lightning to occur in the shortest time possible.

Kits were distributed to students and residents of the village of Jericoacoara, containing a piggy bank, a t-shirt and a Bitcoin debit card (Bolt Card), and using this, a payment was made every three seconds.

Children were able to use the card by tapping it at 21 local merchants, as well as buying fruits at school for 10 sats, approximately one cent in Brazilian currency. All of this was done with no smartphone required. The initiative was organized by Fernando Motolese, Vinicius Kinczel, and Lucia Helena Buso and was supported by 2go Fintech, Bipa CEO Luiz Parreira, and Bitcoin Beach. The achievement was audited by Lucas Ferreira of Lightning Labs, confirming that the funds traveled between the Bitcoin servers and were available in the Lightning wallets of the participants.

Fernando Motolese, founder of Praia Bitcoin, explained why the record is important. "This record is proof of the power of Bitcoin and that it's ready for the masses," he said. "We're excited to see what the future holds for the Lightning Network, and we hope this achievement inspires other communities to adopt Bitcoin as a medium of exchange and who knows, maybe even surpass our record."

The Praia Bitcoin team plans to try a new attempt to break their own record later this year, but this time with the Guinness Book of World Records team in attendance, in order to make it an official record.

Throughout the course of the pandemic, officials and ministers wrestled with how to ensure the public complied with ever-changing lockdown restrictions. One weapon in their arsenal was fear. We frighten the pants off everyone, Matt Hancock suggested during one WhatsApp message with his media adviser. The then Health Secretary was not alone in his desire to scare the public into compliance. The WhatsApp messages seen by the Telegraph show how several members of Mr. Hancocks team engaged in a kind of Project Fear in which they spoke of how to utilise fear and guilt to make people obey lockdown. At one point, Matt Hancock, the former UK Health Minister, asks another government employee, When do we deploy the new variant?...

Karahan Tepe Shares Incredible Features with Sister Site of Gbekli Tepe "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Gbekli Tepe in southern Turkey is the worlds oldest known megalithic site, but its sister site of Karahan Tepe, discovered in 1997, shares many of the same stunning architectural features.

Karahan Tepe also challenges some of archeologys fundamental beliefs.

The word tepe means hill or summit in Turkish and refers to both sites that are located around the rocky Tektek Mountains. The Karahan Tepes ruins span an area of 3.4 million feet squared, approximately one-third the size, and are situated 27 miles east of Gbekli Tepe.

While Karahan Tepe is not yet fully excavated and its exact age is unknown, experts estimate the two areas were built around the same time, during the Pre-Pottery Neolithic period.

Intuitive Astrology: The March Equinox and the Start of the Astrological New Year "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The March 20th-21st Equinox 2023, brings a moment of balance and equilibrium; a return to a zero-point state as we honor equal hours of night and day.

It is said that on the Equinox, the veil between dimensions grows thin and the energy grid of Mother Earth moves into perfect harmony, allowing us to soak in the energy of balance and renewal.

The March Equinox also aligns with the start of Aries Season, and as Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, it is considered the start of the astrological new year and the start of a new adventure around the Sun.

Depending on where in the world you live, the March Equinox also brings the arrival of a new season. For those in the Northern Hemisphere, it represents the start of Spring. For those in the Southern Hemisphere, it represents the start of Autumn.

All of this combined makes the March Equinox a powerful day for aligning in harmony with our higher selves, focusing on renewal, and creating balance.

Depending on what Mother Nature is doing around us, and where we are on our own personal trip around the Sun, we may feel called to blossom and sprout, or we may feel called to go within and retreat.

Embrace where you are, and acknowledge that just like the seasons change, so do your life circumstances. And under this March 2023 Equinox, anything is possible.

March Equinox Astrology 2023

For the 2023 Equinox, we have zero major planets in retrograde motion. This means we have some strong, forward-moving energy for getting things done and making progress.

Right before the Equinox peaks on March 17, Mars, the ruler of Aries and the planet associated with action, motivation, and getting things done leaves its post-retrograde shadow phase, sending a burst of energy into our cosmic skies.

Then shortly after the Equinox reaches its peak, we experience the Aries New Moon on March 21st which unlocks some incredible opportunities for new beginnings, fresh starts, and intention setting.

The Aries New Moon is typically one of the best of the year for setting intentions and planting seeds for our future, and this year, we are gifted with two Aries New Moons, this one on March 21st and another on April 19th, which happens to be a very powerful New Moon Solar Eclipse.

The March Aries New Moon will pave the way for the Eclipse energies that will unfold next month. It will help prepare us for the new chapter that is destined to unfold. It will recharge and renew us from the inside out so we are ready to walk this new pathway that is opening.

Working with the March Equinox

Harriet Tubman Monument Unveiled in New Jersey "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

This morning, the city of Newark, New Jersey, celebrated the unveiling of a new Harriet Tubman monument. Shadow of a Face (2023), installed downtown in Harriet Tubman Square, was designed by artist and New Jersey native Nina Cooke John and pays homage to both Tubmans and the citys role in facilitating the Underground Railroad.

The city square, formerly known as Washington Park, was renamed in honor of Harriet Tubman on Juneteenth of 2022. In 2020, an existing statue of Christopher Columbus was removed at the request of Mayor Ras Baraka in anticipation of site-specific conflict unfolding during the Black Lives Matter protests that summer.

In a time when so many cities are choosing to topple statues that limit the scope of their peoples story, we have chosen to erect a monument that spurs us into our future story of exemplary strength and solidity, Mayor Baraka said at the unveiling today, March 9. In a country where the overwhelming majority of monuments are testaments to white males,...

Perhaps you've used sites like Ancestry to construct your own family tree, peering back into the past to discover how your relations came to be. All family trees tell a story. In the pre-internet days, this work involved hunting through microfiche and archival records of birth, death, and immigration. Now, a fascinating global story has emerged in Science: the largest family tree ever created. Genealogical mapping by scientists at the University of Oxford and the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard University has produced a tree of 27 million ancestors tracing human evolution and migration back one million years.

The project is born of the great advances in DNA sequencing and big data computing in recent decades. Researchers took genome data of 3,609 modern and ancient humans across 215 populations. Some of these samples are up to 100,000 years old. This massive data required an extremely innovative algorithm by the Big Data Institute at the University of Oxford. The algorithm notes genetic variations and hypothesizes backward to trace where those ca...

What is Holi, the Hindu Festival of Color? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Ive never been fortunate enough to time my visits to the Motherland around the time of Holi, so my only real experiences with the festival in the US were organized by an extracurricular Indian language and culture program that had permission to use a local schools campus on the weekends. Regardless, the playful magic of Holi was present in the sparse plumes of colored powder that were strewn at friends and strangers in the parking lot of an east Massachusetts public school on a random Sunday in May (in the interest of celebrating during warmer weather).

Many non-Hindus are tangentially aware of the festival of Holi and its famously colorful traditions. Large cities across the United States and around the world have their own dedicated Holi celebration on the closest weekend, and more and more college campuses are including the festival in their annual activities calendar. Like Diwali and other Hindu festivals, Holi doesnt have the same date annually per the adherence to the lunar Hindu calendar. But what is Holi exactly?

Artists Consider the Concept of Care "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

LONDON The concept of care is increasingly present in todays cultural landscape. This is likely due in part to the COVID-19 pandemic, which cultivated a collective sense of recovery and responsibility to care (for ourselves and others) while navigating an unfamiliar illness and restrictions. Having recently moved my father, who has Alzheimers dementia, into an assisted living facility to support his personal needs, while co-directing a platform of collaborations by artists who identify as neurodivergent, intellectually, and learning disabled with varying access needs and modes of communication, I have been thinking a lot about the concept of care. From self-care to social care, the term is neither simple nor singular.

In considering the term care as a provocation in work by contemporary artists, I am drawn to feminist ethicist and psychologist Carol Gilligans concept of it. Gilligan describes care as an ethic grounded in voice and relationships, in the importance of everyone having a voice, being listened to carefully (in their own right and on their own terms)...

On September 25, 2000, 19-year-old Kevin Hines approached the Golden Gate Bridge. He'd arrived on a bus, determined to end his own life. Unfortunately, he was not alone in his thoughts. According to CNN, San Francisco's iconic bridge is the number one suicide spot in the United States and the second most used spot in the world. The bridge has a 98% fatality rate, but Hines, who suffers from bipolar disorder, was one of the lucky ones. He survived.

In 2018, Hines told his story to ABC News, recalling the feeling he had the moment that he jumped. Instant regret, powerful, overwhelming, he remembers feeling. As I fell, all I wanted to do was reach back to the rail, but it was gone. The thoughts in those four seconds, it was What have I just done? I don't want to die.'

Luckily for Hines, he turned around in mid-air and hit the water in a seated position. While he shattered three vertebrae in the fall, he was still alive. While he soon surfaced, it's no surprise that given his injuries, it was hard to stay afloat. That's when something incredible happened.

Something bega...

New lolMiner 1.70 and BzMiner v13.4.0 Bring More NEXA Performance Improvements "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

After the recent update of both lolMiner and BzMiner that brought AMD GPU support for NEXA, there is a new update for both (jointly working on developing Nexapow) that bring fixes and additional performance and efficiency improvements. You can expect to see an improvement in the NEXA mining performance by 6-8% on all supported Nvidia and AMD GPUs (except on AMD Vega / VII) as well as improved power efficiency with the latest lolMiner 1.70 (nexapow algorithm improvements are the focus of this release). Using BzMiner v13.4.0 you should be able to get similar results in terms of improved performance and efficiency on your mining GPUs, though BzMiner also comes with a number of fixes regarding NEXA, ZIL, Radiant and Ergo fixes as well. Do note that the new NEXA implementation may require new overclocks for stability and performance, so old settings might need some adjusting for optimal results.

Do note that lately Windows releases are showing a bit late for lolMiner compared to the Linux versions, so check back a bit later if you do not yet see the Windows binary release of lolMiner 1.70 with improved NEXA performance and efficiency on GitHub yet. A walkable sculpture now marks the eastern entrance of Xians Qujiang Museum of Fine Arts, providing a hidden space with natural light and open air in the midst of the bustling Chinese city. The project of Shanghai-based architecture firm Neri&Hu, The Urban Monument is built with terracotta-colored travertine and comprised of four sections that allow visitors to seamlessly pass from street to interior to outdoor gathering space. Located south of the towering Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, the immense project similarly references local ancient culture and is designed to mimic an illuminated clay lantern.

Neri&Hu maintained the underground museums original stairs to draw in pedestrians and lead them to a sunken piazza, and a latticed facade allows sunlight to brighten the inner walkways. In addition to the galleries, a massive amphitheater with concentric benches for seating sits at the top of the structure, which also holds public restrooms, a restaurant, a lounge, and retail space.

Completed in December 2021, The Urban Monument is one of many of Neri&Hus architectural projects that play with geometries and light, which you can explore on its site.

Watch Jimmy Fallon Prank the Coaches of The Voice With His Singing Audition

Jimmy Fallon Voice Audition

Photo: Screenshot from YouTube

Comedian Jimmy Fallon is best known for his gig as a late-night talk show host on The Tonight Show. So, you might not realize he also has a musical side. He's released studio recordings and performed alongside Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen, even going as far as to win a Grammy award. Certain of his singing chops and his talent for impersonations, Fallon decided to prank the coaches of NBC's hit television show The Voice.

Carson Daly, the host of The Voice, began the ruse by announcing there was a surprise for the show's judges and that this was the most significant performance of the unnamed artist's life. Like all contestants, Fallon blind auditioned for the four coacheshis friends Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson as well as newer coaches Niall Horan and Chance the Rapper. The Tonight Show host chose to perform Michael McDonald's I Keep Forgettin' (Every Time You're Near). The choice of song and style sparked bewildered reactions from the coaches from the moment he began to sing.

The coaches of The Voice listen to a contestant with their backs turned to them. If they like what they hear, they push a button and whip their chair around to lay eyes on the singer. Clarkson was the first to push the button to come face-to-face with the mysterious contestant. She burst into laughter when she saw Fallon. Chance and Horan followed suit, reacting cheerfully to Fallon's funny performance. Shelton, aware of who was singing after hearing his voice, refused to spin around for his friend. This inspired Fallon to push Shelton's button himself. You can't do that! Shelton jokingly told him. You broke the rules.

Fallon goes on to explain how he ended up there; it was to pay tribute to Shelton because he is exiting the show after several years. I texted Carson [Daly] and said, I gotta come over. 23 seasonsyou're a legen...

Did you know that March is National Crafting Month in the United States? Set to celebrate the onset of spring, it makes a good excuse to pick up a new creative hobby. One craft that has been picking up steam over the past few years is diamond painting. Sometimes called diamond embroidery or crystal painting, it's often described as a mix between cross-stitch and paint-by-numbers and involves applying resin rhinestones to a canvas to create a sparkling mosaic. This meditative and relaxing process is a great way to unwind while also expressing your creativity.

Diamond art is a fantastic creative hobby for beginners because it takes very little effort to get a project up and running. Kits filled with everything you need to get started are readily available, and it doesn't take long to get the hang of the craft. This fun and easy craft is even something that you can do with the entire family, as diamond painting is also kid friendly.

While most people start their diamond painting journey by producing a wall hanging, there are a lot of creative possibilities with this craft. Pillows, tote bags, phone cases, coasters, and placemats are just some of the other items that can be given a decorative touch using diamond painting.

Let's take a look at how you can start painting with diamonds today, as well as some of the best diamond painting kits for all skill levels.

Cooking with Florine Stettheimer "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

Photograph by Erica Maclean.

The painter and poet Florine Stettheimer should have been easy to cook from. Her poetry, commercially published for the first time in the 2010 collection Crystal Flowers, has a section devoted to comestiblesincluding airy tributes to ham, bread, and tomatoes with Russian dressingand her paintings often portray food. She was born to a wealthy German-Jewish family in New York in the late eighteen hundreds, part of a social circle that included Neustadters and Guggenheims, and she held salons that were a Whos Who of the New York art world. (Marcel Duchamp, Carl Van Vechten, and Leo Stein were regulars.) Stettheimer did not oversee the cooking, but part of her works deliberate feminine aesthetic involved recording the parties, personalities, dishes, outfits, interiors, furniture, and floral arrangements that made up her life. On one canvas, Soire, a plate of salad and pitcher of cocktails adorn a table in the foreground of a drawing-room scene, where assembled luminaries gaze at Stettheimers paintings-within-the-painting. These were unorthodox choices for a woman artist of her timemany others made strenuous efforts not to seem too overtly feminine.

Want The Most Caffeine from Your Coffee? Use This Brewing Technique "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

The human love affair with coffee knows no bounds. We are enamored by its flavors, aromas, harvesting, brewing, and of course, its caffeine boost. Thanks to a recent study, you may be surprised to learn that caffeine content varies wildly among coffee and how much it depends on brewing methods.

According to the FDA, an average 8-ounce cup of coffee contains 80 to 100mg of caffeine and the recommended daily intake for adults is 400mg. But how much caffeine is in your favorite brew and how much each person needs for that surge of energy is more complicated.

Enter Youtuber and 2007 Barista champion James Hoffmann. He runs Square Mile Coffee Roasters and is the author of The World Atlas of Coffee. Using a $2,500 caffeine analyzer, Hoffmann examined different types of coffees including espresso, instant, and brewed.

Anxious Thoughts and Dreams Occupy the Minds of Johnson Tsangs Porcelain Figures "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Cross My Mind (2020), porcelain, fake grass, and trees, 11.8 11.8 5.5 inches. All images  Johnson Tsang, shared with permission

Through contorted figures, Johnson Tsang continues to stretch the limits of human consciousness as he blurs the boundary between the real and surreal. The Hong Kong-based artist has spent decades sculpting works in ceramic and steel that explore the liminal and invisible, making thoughts and emotions tangible through minimal forms in white porcelain. Vacillating between the calming and disconcerting, Tsangs works convey many of the relatable anxieties and coping mechanisms that occupy the contemporary mind.

The artists Lucid Dream series frequently presents facial features as cushions with Comfort Zone and Impressed both featuring slumbering figures squashing the nose and forehead. Other works in the collection are more unsettling and use rubble, duplicates, and aggressive hands to warp the forms. The sculptures reflect Tsangs own pursuit of spiritual growth and recognize the need to stop the inner war and face everything that happens with peace.

This sentiment of acceptance and calm dramatically changed for the artist after he suffered a stroke in January 2022. Following brain surgery, a ten-day coma, and extensive recovery to regain mobility and speech, hes begun to speak about his health and desire to move forward. He shares with Colossal:

When asked how I am doing, I will playfully answer: Ive been very busy recently. Im concentrating on creating a new work, which is my body and my life. That means, Im a sculptor and become the clay that Im sculpting I just started a different journey, and embarking on this adventure is actually exciting and full of expectations because I know this particular experience comes only once and I must cherish it. I believe in life. Life is based on love, designed with wisdom, and allows us to grow t...

How to Create a Sourdough Starter "IndyWatch Feed Food"

There are a lot of articles out there telling you how to create a sourdough starter. Despite this, as a sourdough baker, the most questions I get asked are about sourdough starters. Ive birthed a lot of starters over my bread-making time, and I want to share with you what I consider to be the most fool-proof method.

What You Will Need

  • Flour  Wholegrain rye flour has always worked best for me and is routinely the flour I use to build and feed starters. I would recommend that you try very hard to get hold of some. To create a starter, youll need about at least 500g of flour [roughly 1.1 pounds], to be safe, get yourself 1kg [roughly 2.2 pounds]. If wholegrain rye was not possible, my next choice would be another wholegrain flour like spelt or wheat.
  • Water  Chlorine kills the bacteria/yeast you are trying to nurture when creating a starter, so use filtered water, buy mineral water, boil your water and let it cool, or pour your water out the night before and leave it to stand. All of these reduce its chlorine content.
  • Jars  These should be made of glass, with necks wide enough for you to be able to get a spoon in and stir. Youll also need lids for them, although these can be improvised with pieces of cloth and elastic bands. Youll need at least 2 jars, as well use a clean one every time we feed the starter.
  • Kitchen Scales  Ideally these would be digital.
  • A Warm Place  Your starter will grow best in a warm environment. I have found 22C/72F works well, but it could be warmer. You will often struggle with anything lower than 20C/68F. If your house is not that warm, work on finding a way to keep the starter warm. You can read my article How to Keep Your Sourdough Starter Warm for advice.

You will also need

  • A consistent routine. Building a starter requires a small amount of attention at least once a day. Find a way to work this into your routine so that you do not forget. That is easier said than done if you hide your starter away in a warm spot like an airing cupboard. So put a note on your noticeboard, write it in your diary, set the alarm on your phone or put a note in your bread box. Do whatever you need to do to help you remember. You will not need to keep this up for ever, just for a week or two.
  • Patience. Starters take time. Dont expect to be baking bread for at least a week, and probably more like 10 days. See it as an opportunity to work on honing you patience. (And know that you can mak...

THNDR Games Releases New Game To Earn Bitcoin Alongside Gaming Reputation System On Nostr "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

THNDR's new Sudoku and Tetris inspired mobile game Bitcoin Blocks lets players earn bitcoin while solving puzzles.

THNDR Games has released a new Bitcoin game called Bitcoin Blocks, which allows players to test their problem-solving skills against others to win Bitcoin. The game is similar to Tetris and Sudoku, and is available on the THNDR mobile gaming platform. THNDR has also announced the Gaming Graph, a reputation and badging system that will allow players to earn badges that are tied to their identity and can be transferred to other ecosystems.

The launch of Bitcoin Blocks marks an important milestone in the development of THNDR's mobile gaming platform, the press release sent to Bitcoin Magazine states. The game is the first to showcase THNDR's social competitive layer and features, which include Leagues, THNDR's leveling system that pits community members against each other.

Gaming Graph will serve as a badging and reputation system for players that is easily transferable to other environments and clients, including Nostr. Through Cameris NIP-58, as players advance through THNDR Leagues and achieve gaming milestones, badges will be issued to their Nostr pubkey and tied to their identity, allowing users to build a virtual reputation. These established reputations built in THNDR games may have merit or value in other communities.

We're thrilled to add Bitcoin Blocks to the THNDR platform and continue our mission of spreading Bitcoin adoption through play, Desiree Dickerson, THNDR CEO, explained. By combining two familiar classics - Tetris and Sudoku - we hope to reach new users traditionally underrepresented in gaming and financial access and introduce them to Bitcoin. Bitcoin Blocks marks a major milestone for THNDR, as it showcases the first of many social, competitive features on the platform."

THNDR plans to continue rolling out competitive gaming and social features to the platform throughout the year. The companys most recent title Club Bitcoin: Solitaire, has become the highest ranking bitcoin game of all time, reaching #21 in the U.S. App Store, according to THNDR.

Here Are the Incredible Winners of the 2022 World Nature Photography Awards "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Here Are the Incredible Winners of the 2022 World Nature Photography Awards

Crocodile emerging from the mud in Zimbabwe

Danger in the Mud by Jens Cullmann (Germany). Grand Prize Winner, World Nature Photographer of the Year and Gold, Animal Portraits. Subject: Crocodile. Location: Mana Pools National Park, Zimbabwe

After receiving thousands of entries from photographers around the globe, the World Nature Photography Awards have announced their winners. The top prize goes to Jens Cullmann for his incredible image of a crocodile swimming through the mud at the Mana Pools National Park in Zimbabwe. The German photographer learned of his win while on location in Botswana and was thrilled about his victory.

From a satellite phone, he shared a bit about the story behind the winning photograph. This photograph is the result of my staking out the largest pool in Mana Pools National Park, Zimbabwe, at a time when an extended drought had reduced the pool to rapidly drying mud. I had to be very careful not to disturb the crocodile, even though it was buried in dry mud. They will launch themselves with tremendous speed and power at any animal foolish enough to come too close.

Cullmann also shed some light on why the hot temperatures cause the crocodile to cover itself in mud. During the dry season, temperatures can reach 45 degrees Celsius and crocodiles will attempt to reduce their body temperature by burying themselves in mud. A giant crocodile such as this one could survive submerged for months without eating, by living off its fat reserves. This is a process known as aestivation.

His efforts in taking the photo certainly paid off, as it rose to the top of a strong pool of photographers. They submitted their work to 14 different categories that explore wildlife and the natural world. Other standout imagery includes Hidetoshi Ogatas adorable photo of Japanese macaques huddled together for a cuddle.

This photo captures a rare moment during the lactation season when three pairs of monkeys have formed a huddle after grooming, explains the Japanese photographer. Most Awaji monkeys are non-aggressive and when they ar...

Actor Owen Wilson Is Channeling Bob Ross for the Upcoming Movie Paint "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Actor Owen Wilson Is Channeling Bob Ross for the Upcoming Movie Paint

Paint Movie by Owen Wilson

Photo: Screenshot from YouTube

Few artists are as instantly recognizable as beloved TV painter Bob Ross. His fluffy perm and gentle demeanor were just two of his signature characteristics throughout his on-screen career. Actor Owen Wilson is channeling his inner Bob Ross in the upcoming comedy film Paint depicting the life of a public television personality named Carl Nargyle.

In the trailer, Wilson is dressed in similar attire to what Ross wore during his show The Joy of Painting and even paints quaint landscapes as well. Although Ross is clearly an inspiration for the movie, the story does not follow the life of the real painting instructor. Instead, Wilson's character is described as someone who has it all: a signature perm, custom van, and fans hanging on his every stroke until a younger, better artist steals everything (and everyone) Carl loves.

Set against the lush backdrop of Vermont, the Ross doppelgnger creates lightning-fast paintings that enrapture the audience of public television. In addition, Nargyle, like Ross, is able to calmly demonstrate how to create a landscape from scratch. However, the comedy happens when a new artist, played by Ciara Rene, begins chipping away at his popularity with her own TV program. Paint is both directed and written by Brit McAdams, and features the talents of other stars, like Michaela Watkins and Wendi McLendon-Covey.

Paint will be released in theaters on April 7, 2023.

Owen Wilson plays a public television painter named Carl Nargylewho bears a striking resemblance to Bob Rossin the upcoming film, Paint.

Meet Oluwakemi learning from Akinyele, Oyo State, Nigeria. Shes a dedicated social worker and changemaker throughout several non-profit organizations within her community. Read more about her incredible passion for helping people and how she utilized Coursera to expand her skills. Heres her story in her own words:

In November of 2022, I earned a degree in Philosophy from the University of Ibadan, but  I have always had a passion for helping others. This passion only bloomed throughout my volunteer experiences at university.

While in school, I had the opportunity to serve in various leadership positions such as the lead for the Oyo State Team a youth empowerment group that advocates for better socio-economic opportunities and at AIA International Foundation, an international youth-led nonprofit organization working towards societal development using innovation for sustainable development. I later became the Team Lead for the South West Region for Slum2School Africa, a volunteer-driven organization that aims to empower underserved children.

My passion for serving female youth in my community led me to start my very own foundation. In February of 2019, I co-founded the Freedom Movement for the Girl Child (FMGC) with the goal to protect and educate young women and girls.

These phenomenal programs and organizations helped me attain real world experience in the nonprofit sector, but I felt I needed formal training to further enhance my skills. I decided to enroll in the Social Work Practice: Advocating Social Justice and Change course from the University of Michigan on Coursera, and I am so thankful that I did! I was able to develop better skills in leadership, project management, and ultimately, I was able to  deepen my knowledge in social injustice.

With my degree, my experiences, and my knowledge gained through Coursera, Im able to drive even more positive impact and...

Canadian companies licensed to sell cocaine "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

From insidepaper.com: Canadian biosciences company Sunshine Earth Labs announced Thursday it has been licensed to produce and sell cocaine, reflecting the federal health agencys bid to improve safety conditions for the countrys addicts. The licensing deal comes after a radical policy shift to address an opioid overdose crisis that has killed thousands, by decriminalizing small amounts of cocaine, heroin and other hard drugs. Ottawa granted a criminal code exemption in January to British Columbia for the three-year pilot project, with the aim of removing the stigma associated with drug use that keeps people from seeking help. Advocates have also been pushing for safer supplies of drugs to be made available to addicts who face a risk of dying from toxic drug poisoning linked to illicit street drugs. Sunshine Earth Labs said in a statement it received permission from Health Canada to legally possess, produce, sell and distribute coca leaf and cocaine, as well as morphine, MDMA (ecstasy) and heroin. Its announcement comes on the heels of a similar licensing arrangement offered in February to Adastra Labs, which had until now focused on crafting cannabis extracts. Adastras license also allows it to produce and sell psilocybin and psilocin hallucinogens more commonly known as magic mushrooms that produce effects similar to LSD. We will evaluate how the commercialization of this substance fits in with our business model at Adastra in an effort to position ourselves to support the demand for a safe supply of cocaine, chief executive Michael Forbes said. British Columbia is only the second jurisdiction in North America to decriminalize hard drugs after the US state of Oregon did so in November 2020. The Canadian province is the epicenter of a crisis that has seen more than 10,000 overdose deaths since it declared a public health emergency in...

The Right to Be Let Alone: When the Government Wants to Know All Your Business "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

This article was originally published by John W. Whitehead and Nisha Whitehead at the Rutherford Institute.

The Constitution Failed. It Secured Neither Peace nor Freedom.

Experience teaches us to be most on our guard to protect liberty when the governments purposes are beneficent.Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis

There was a time when the census was just a head count.

That is no longer the case.

The American Community Survey (ACS), sent to about 3.5 million homes every year, is the byproduct of a government that believes it has the right to know all of your personal business.

If you havent already received an ACS, its just a matter of time.

A far cry from the traditional census, which is limited to ascertaining the number of persons living in each dwelling, their ages and ethnicities, the ownership of the dwelling, and telephone numbers, the ACS contains some of the most detailed and intrusive questions ever put forth in a census questionnaire.

At 28 pages (with an additional 16-page instruction packet), these questions concern matters that the government simply has no business knowing, including questions relating to respondents bathing habits, home utility costs, fertility, marital history, work commute, mortgage, and health insurance, among other highly personal and private matters.

For instance, the ACS asks how many persons live in your home, along with their names and detailed information about them such as their relationship to you, marital status, race, and their physical, mental, and emotional problems, etc. The survey also asks how many bedrooms and bathrooms you have in your house, along with the fuel used to heat your home, the cost of electricity, what type of mortgage you have and monthly mortgage payments, property taxes, and so on.

And then the survey drills down even deeper.

The survey demands to know how many days you were sick last year, how many automobiles you own and the number of miles driven, whether you have trouble getting up the stairs, and what time you leave for work every morning, along with highly detailed inquiries about your financial affairs. And the survey demands that you violate the privacy of others by supplying the names and addresses of your friends, relatives, and employer.

The questionnaire also demands that you give other information on the people in your home, such as their ed...

Is crypto winter almost over? Surviving the unknown months "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Like every market cycle, this crypto winter will eventually end.

Multisig wallets vulnerable to exploitation by Starknet apps, says developer Safeheron "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The vulnerability allegedly allows Web3 apps using the Starknet protocol to bypass the security protection of private keys in MPC wallets, potentially exposing users' private keys to wallet providers.

Inside Bitcoin Lake: Lessons From My Months As A Volunteer With Guatemala's Groundbreaking Project "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

A volunteer from Guatemalas Bitcoin Lake project shares the rewards of working on this circular economy.

Bitcoin is a disruptive technology that has emerged as a fundamental component of the financial industry. My work at Bitcoin-friendly companies has allowed me to observe the many ways in which Bitcoin is transforming the industry. Looking to contribute more, I embarked on a Bitcoin-only journey and joined the non-profit project, Bitcoin Lake.

Located in Panajachel, Guatemala, Bitcoin Lake launched just over a year ago. The project aims to create a circular economy powered by Bitcoin, providing a novel and accessible solution for unbanked as well as banked merchants. In Guatemala, approximately 60% of the adult population doesn't have access to formal financial services, and Bitcoin Lake's initiative to onboard merchants has a significant impact on the local community.

I have seen firsthand that this project has successfully onboarded more than 60 merchants, of whom 90% are unbanked and solely accept cash and bitcoin. The project continues to seek support and ways to enhance the experience for the Bitcoiners there. The Bitcoin tuk tuk (see figure one below) and the Bitcoin boat (cleverly named Peer To Peer) are examples of such initiatives.

a very common vehicle in Panajachel.

Bitcoin Lake has made significant strides in a short period. Business owners are astounded by the ease of using Bitcoin, and the education projects have been an outstanding success. Centro Educativo Josu, Guatemala's first school to receive the "Mi Primer Bitcoin" course, has seen its students gain an exceptional understanding of Bitcoin. The progress and impact of Bitcoin Lake are significant and serve as an inspiration to all.

During my first month volunteering with Bitcoin Lake, my understanding and dedication to Bitcoin has grown significantly. As one of my first tasks, I collected data to assess the progress made in one year. As shown in figures two, three and four below, charts illustrate the flow of bitcoin in the project and the number of transactions completed within the past year, indicating significant growth.
