Putins Russia is headed for a military dictatorship and total collapse "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Story by Hamish de Bretton-Gordon 4h ago

The last vestiges of democracy in Russia are burning in the fields of the Donbas. Young men are being sent to the slaughter, their post-war tanks proving no match for modern Western kit or the motivation of Ukrainian soldiers defending their homes. Putin knows his only hope of victory and of prolonging his tenure as the last great Tsar is the total militarisation of Russia. This is an outcome that suits him well.

Spanish Athlete Emerges From Cave After 500 Days of Living Underground "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Spanish Athlete Emerges From Cave After 500 Days of Living Underground

Most people who emerge from caves these days are either enthusiastic spelunkers or people in need of rescue. However, one Spanish extreme athlete purposely chose to descend below the earth and remain in a cave all alone, cut off from the world, in the name of scientific research. After 500 days underground, 50-year-old Beatriz Flamini emerged on Friday, April 14, 2023, back into the light. Her long stay in the cave was a remarkable feat and has generated interesting data and opportunities for research on what such extended isolation can do to the human body and mind.

When Flamini chose to go into the cave on Saturday, November 20, 2021, she was well prepared with a support team in place. At the time of her descent into the 230-foot-deep cave near Granada, the world was a very different place. Her native Spain still had a mask mandate due to COVID-19. Queen Elizabeth II still sat on the throne of England. Roe v. Wade was still law of the land in the United States. Russia had not yet re-escalated the war in the Ukraine. Former President Trump had not yet been indicted. However, as all these things happened, Flamini learned nothing of it. She had given strict instructions to her team to not communicate, even in the case of a family death. If its no communication its no communication regardless of the circumstances. The people who know me knew and respected that, she told NBC.

She took two GoPro cameras down into the cave to record herself. Psychologists, researchers, cave specialists, and physical trainers examined how isolation and spatial disorientation affected her notions of time, her brain patterns, and her sleep. Supplies were lowered down, waste removed in reverse. Flamini reports going through 60 books and 220 gallons of water during that time. On day 65, I stopped counting and lost perception of time, she noted. There were emotional times, but she remained focused on coherence and the treats of avocados and fresh eggs lowered down. Surprisingly, she reports she did not talk to herself out loud, but rather...

Teenager Wonders If He Broke The Rules Of Blended Families By Trying To Remember His Mother "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Weve seen proof on Reddit (and in the real world) of how hard it is to successfully blend families with children. That is true, I think, whether a family of origin broke up due to death or divorce, although each scenario can present its own issues.

OP lost his mother when he was 9 and gained a stepmother and stepsister in addition to his two younger biological siblings two years later, at 11. His father and stepmother have had two much-younger children of their own at this point.

My mom and dad had me (17m), my sister (14f) and brother (13m) together. Mom died 8 years ago.

Dad remarried 6 years ago and it was not easy for the three of us. Dads wife, Rose, has a daughter whos like 11 now.

They also have a 4 and 2 year old together.

After their father remarried, his younger siblings were still grieving their mother and so was he. In order to help keep her memory alive, or for them to have something to remember at all, he bought a scrapbook and they started saving photos and stories and memories of their mother.

About a week after their wedding, my siblings snuck into my room in the middle of the night, sad about dad being married and the changes that had happened. They asked if I felt like mom really gone now and I said yeah.

I asked them if theyd like for us to have something just for us, no new family involved, where we could remember mom and talk about that stuff. They said yes.

So I raised the money to buy a pretty nice scrapbook and about once a month my siblings would sneak into my room at night and wed put photos in and write memories we had and Id share the stories I remembered of mom, since as the oldest I remembered her best and remembered the stories about her Id heard.

We never added Ro...

New Film Follows Endangered Rhinos and Explores How Technology Can Bring the Species Back "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

New Film Follows Endangered Rhinos and Explores How Technology Can Bring the Species Back

Sudan, Northern White Rhino, with his keeper prior to his death

Five years ago, the last male northern white rhinoSudanpassed away. With his death, the fate of the species seemed sealed. There are only two females still living, so how could the endangered species possibly find a way to survive? The answer may be technology. Thanks to the work of a consortium of scientists known as BioRescue, there is still hope that the northern white rhino can make a comeback. Using in-vitro fertilization and stem-cell science, BioRescue has created 24 viable embryos using the eggs of the last two females alive and the frozen sperm of deceased male northern white rhinos.

Acclaimed photographer and filmmaker Ami Vitale has been following the story closely, starting with the day in 2009 that Sudan made his way from a zoo in the Czech Republic back to Kenya. She was also there for his last breath, with her photographs bringing international attention to this wildlife crisis. Since 2018, when Sudan passed, she's been actively working with BioRescue to make a miracle happen.

In her new short film, Remembering Sudan, Vitale traces the plight of the northern white rhino. Using the voice of the people who know the rhinos besttheir caretakersit's an incredible look at loss and hope. The film highlights the work of Zacharia Mutai, a keeper at northern Kenya's Ol Pejeta Conservancy, where Sudan lived. Mutai shares his connections to these animals and his memories of Sudan. As head rhino keeper, he has an intimate bond with these animals and gave comfort to Sudan in his last moments.

Now, he's also a witness to a new possibility for the species thanks to advanced technology. Vitale's film pushes us to mourn the loss of these animals, while also allowing us to marvel at the innovations that could give them a chance to survive. If BioRescue is able to successfully implant the embryos in female southern white rhinos, who will act as surrogates, it could change what we know about extinction. And it could mean a different fate for the more than 14,000 endangered species on our planet today.

Going Roth Mode "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

Newark Public Library, Main Branch. Photo by Jim Henderson, public domain, via Wikimedia Commons.

Im not even necessarily the biggest Roth guy. When I got asked to cover Philip Roth Unbound, a festival to celebrate and agitate his legacy, I hadnt read but a handful of his books. But, looking over the press release, I was drawn to how intense the schedule was set up to be: three full days of panels, live readings, and comedy shows, all in his hometown of Newark. Roth compared novel-writing to the tedium of baseball, and there was something athletic about how these events were stacked up, one after another, jam-packed with renowned writers and themes encompassing the breadth of Roths vision. Id view this like a marathon, one that Id need to read the rest of his books to prepare for. Id read maybe six. He wrote thirty-one. We were a month out. Plenty of time, I decided.

Having read Roths debut, as well as Portnoys Complaint and the Zuckerman novels through Counterlife, I figured Id pick up where I left off. I was most drawn to the stretch of novels he wrote in the nineties, when, at fifty, after the death of his father and the failure of his marriage, he self-exiled and became a monk of fiction, as David Remnick put it in a 2018 profile. Living alone in the woods, he wrote, Roth stayed trained on the sentence, the page, the problem of the novel at hand. This decade produced the novels that would sweep a huge number of major literary awardsa National Book Critics Circle award, a PEN/Faulkner, a Pulitzer, his second National Book Award. Wanting to absorb the fruits of his exile, I exiled myself and, starting with Patrimonyabout his father dying, published in 1991, the year I was borngot to reading methodically forward.

I felt awed, in places, by these books ambition; impatient, in others, with their unbridled maximalism. Their willingness to meander, to dwell in dialogue, read like luxuries novelists arent afforded today. Theres a consistent emphasis on race and class in these books, on the challenges of coexisting in America, that surprised me. Reckoning with ones roots yet remaining free t...

Black and white image of a man leaning backwards in front of a tree

Untitled, from the series Our War. Edgar Martins, Portugal, Photographer of the Year, Professional competition, Portraiture, Sony World Photography Awards 2023.

During a special gala ceremony in London, the World Photography Organisation revealed the overall winners of the 2023 Sony World Photography Awards. Portuguese photographer Edgar Martins was given the honor of being named Photographer of the Year for his moving series of images to honor his friend, photojournalist Anton Hammerl, who was killed while covering the Libyan Civil War in 2011. Along with Martins, the overall winners of the Open, Youth, and Student competitions were also revealed, as well as some special award recipients.

Martins won a $25,000 cash prize and Sony imaging equipment and will have a solo presentation of his work at next year's Sony World Photography Awards exhibition. For Martins, the win is not only about validating his photography, but also about bringing more visibility to his friend's disappearance.

It is a huge honor to be recognized and although I am philosophical about awards and the subjective nature of someones choice, knowing that there were over 180,000 entries to this years Professional competition, is very humbling, he shared. In this case, it is also quite an emotional experience because I get to honor my friend on a world stage and bring attention to the familys plight to find his remains.

As Martins was not able to conduct a proper investigation when he traveled to Libya, he chose t...

CIA knows Zelensky has stolen at least $400 MILLION "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Firstly I have been working round the clock trying to get all the campaign packs out! It is a good situation to be in but as ever if you have requested one please be patient and they should all hopefully be out before I head down to London.

Now if you have been following the Seymour Hersh revelations that we have been reporting on he was the first to give definitive evidence that the USA was behind the terrorist attack on the Nordstream pipeline. He has now been doing more investigative work and says that the CIA know for a fact that Zelensky and his cronies have pocketed over $400 MILLION through a scam!

In his blog, Hersh writes The Ukraine government, headed by Volodymyr Zelensky, has been using American taxpayers funds to pay dearly for the vitally needed diesel fuel that is keeping the Ukrainian army on the move in its war with Russia.

It is unknown how much the Zelensky government is paying per gallon for the fuel, but the Pentagon was paying as much as $400 per gallon to transport gasoline from a port in Pakistan, via truck or parachute, into Afghanistan during the decades-long American war there.

The issue of corruption was directly raised with Zelensky in a meeting last January in Kyiv with CIA Director William Burns. His message to the Ukrainian president, I was told by an intelligence official with direct knowledge of the meeting, was out of a 1950s mob movie.

The senior generals and government officials in Kyiv were angry at what they saw as Zelenskys greed, so Burns told the Ukrainian president because he was taking a larger share of the skim money than was going to the generals.

This is once again evidence to prove everything that we and anyone with half a brain has been saying from the start that just like CONVID Ukraine is yet another massive money laundering scheme! Just like C...

Pfizer funded a CDC behavior change project that targeted vaccine critics "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

A new report has shed fresh light on the connection between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and numerous private-sector drug, vaccine, and health care companies that have been working together to silence vaccine critics from speaking their minds. The Public Good Projects (PGP), as it is benevolently dubbed, describes itself as a public health non-profit group centered around large-scale monitoring programs, social and behavior change interventions. The truth, though, is that it is a fascist public-private operation aimed at keeping a lid on the deadly truth about vaccines. PGP is little more than a mass censorship operation that, especially at the height of the Wuhan coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, kept itself busy de-platforming doctors and other medical specialists who tried to sound the alarm about the dangers of Fauci Flu shots. In addition to the CDC and the FDA, other PGP partners include Kaiser Permanente, Rockefeller, and Humana, according to the Tennessee Department of Health, which identified these partners from the biography of PGP CEO Dr. Joe Smyser.

PGP funding came not from lobbyists but directly from vaccine manufacturers like Pfizer and Moderna

Deviating from the norm of receiving funding from industry lobbyists working on behalf of corporations, PGPs operating cash came directly from major industry players such as Pfizer and Moderna, both of which have a vested interest in stamping out so-called vaccine hesitancy. When people think for themselves, Pfizer and Moderna do not make money. So, they funneled gobs of cash into the PGP in an effort to keep people in the dark and the profits flowing. The New York City Health Departments Misinformation Response Unit (MRU) also contributed to the PGP, which also operates an initiative called Shots Heard that is similar to the United Nations Verified Initiative, the Vaccine C...

Rick Salafias Wildly Shaped Aluminum Rulers Measure Impractical Proportions "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

An aluminum measurement instrument shaped in a circle with a central whole

All images Rick Salafia

With dramatically bowed edges, coiled shapes, and fragments jutting in opposite directions, Instruments by Rick Salafia defies many standards of measurement. The ongoing series, which currently comprises more than 200 works, disregards the one-foot rectangle in favor of a playfully diverse array of shapes. Semi-circles stretch like a croissant, ends expand into wide, asymmetric forms, and a segment stretching just a few inches breaks free from the rest of the metal tool. While the pieces in Instruments take on impractical shapes and proportions, the individual inked lines and numbers remain relatively uniform, evoking the systemized nature of a typical ruler.

Salafia produced each work in an edition of three and has some available in his shop. You can find more from the series on his site.

Bitcoin Puts Power In The Hands Of The Workers "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

A former communist party member on how Bitcoin may help avoid the violence that historically accompanies economically-induced social unrest.

This is an opinion editorial by Frank Kashner, founder of UnChainDemocracy.org.

In 1971, I joined a communist party while working in the factory of the highest-paid General Electric (GE) defense plant in the country. I was repulsed by pictures of our military dropping napalm on Vietnamese children, convinced that the justifications of our government were lies, and I was drawn to the idea that the working class would soon take over the world and create a utopia.

The group that I joined was split off from the American Communist Party. It was supposed to be democratic and centralist. I quit the group after two months when it tried to give me orders without understanding what was actually happening. I saw that it was all about Centralism without any democracy. But I stayed in the GE factory for 13 years, participating in movements that reformed both the workers union and GE.

But what about revolution and who are the workers? I did not have a violent bone in my body, and treated the terms revolution and workers like metaphors, not taken seriously by me or anyone else (including our probable FBI monitors). But the need for dramatic social and political change stayed with me, and my notion of the workers grew to include almost everyone who is not a billionaire or flunky.

Over the years, I have participated in personal, union, community, school, environmental and political reform efforts, always aware that, even though we often won victories, we were shoveling shit against the incoming tide of empire, greed, militarism, autocracy and disintegration.

In 2017, I met Bitcoin and was entranced by the idea of money that was independent of corporations and governments, that was limited to 21 million, created by solving math problems, guarded by vigilant nodes, decentralized and not rigged by and for the elite. Over this past year, I have learned from the brilliant Bitcoin community, including people like Jeff Booth and Jason Lowery. Bitcoin is a tool of international, non-violent economic revolution against corruption. Bitcoin st...

The Great Divide "IndyWatch Feed Fertility"

Any company that is adopting WOKE should be out of business for what they are really doing is dividing the country and completing what our computer has forecast the breakup of the United States. The WOKE Agenda is attacking the religious beliefs of many and that historically always leads to division, discrimination, and often outright war.

When a company endorses what they think is some political agenda, it will lose the business from the opposition. This whole thing about transgender is out of control. Instead of eliminating discrimination, they are creating it. People will then blame the transgender movement for all sorts of things as they have done to Jews, Catholics, Muslims, and Protestants. There is no solution here. By endorsing WOKE, they are undermining the religious beliefs of others. You end up creating disunity not unity.

Companies should NEVER take sides in politics especially when they attack religious beliefs. It is one thing to lobby for your business against some regulation. But endorsing this WOKE agenda is part of the Great Divide that is clearly a major factor contributing to the demise of the United States by dividing the people between blue and red. Abortion already offends many religious beliefs. Then there is taxation and war. This WOKE Agenda will be one of the factors historians will look back on for breaking up the United States.

During the Hard Times that followed the Panic of 1837, there was discrimination against the Irish Catholics for taking jobs when they migrated to the States. That led to even gun battles on the street. Just as Germany singled out the Jews, any time you single out any group, you divide your society, undermining the states foundation.

Tiny Urban Forests! The Secret To Transforming Cities Into Natural Paradise "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Did you ever hear of tiny urban forests? As cities continue to grow, so does our impact on the environment. The concrete jungle that many of us call home may offer the convenience of modern life, but it comes at a cost. The lack of green space in urban settings not only affects the environment, but it also takes a toll on our mental health.

Senate Foreign Relations Committee Cravenly Rubber Stamps CIA Plan for More Coups, Assassinations, Drone Strikes, Kidnappings and Torture to Save America from Fabricated Foreign Enemies "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

By Jeremy Kuzmarov,

March 28 Hearings Provided a Platform for the CIAs Nice Guy Public Face, the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), and the Violent Coup Plotters and Regime Changers That it Supports

The concept of separation of powers was pivotal to the so-called ideal of democracy laid out by the founding fathers of the United States.

Some of the more democratically inclined founders would be horrified by the subservience displayed by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee today toward the Executive Branch and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). On March 28, Chairman Robert Menendez (D-NJ) presided over hearings that provided a platform for Damon Wilson, the President and CEO of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), a CIA offshoot that was founded in the 1980s to promote propaganda and support opposition figures in countries the U.S. targets for regime change.

The Mysterious Events Around the Sinking of the USS Thresher April 1963 "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

USS Thresher (SSN-593) underway, 30 April 1961

In the month of April 10, 1963 the SSN-593 Thresher Nuclear submarine was on a routine series of dives while also rendezvousing with a rescue ship at several different points. She had been commissioned in 1961, but had been undergoing a number of sea trials as the new design and previously unutilized technology made for more careful evaluation. She was being serviced out of the Portsmouth Shipyard and the first hint of any trouble was that the crew felt that the contractors performing maintenance were a bit slow and inefficient while tending not to clean up after themselves. None the less, relations between the crew and Portsmouth shipyard were considered good. The Thresher was a expanded Skipjack Class design that for the first time would enter service as not only an attack sub but a hunter killer with the most silent running streamlined hull yet.

Conning tower Definition & Meaning - Merriam-Webster

The design of the proposed Thresher class submarine was so new and innovative that one admiral characterized the SSN-593 more different than any sub in the US Naval inventory. In other words there was nothing like her at sea in the world. However, there were problems. Analysis of the routine inspection of silver brazed welding showed that of 400 joints within the sub at least 40 were considered substandard. Yet, these hazards were not considered enough of a problem to require repair. She would end up sinking in 8,400 feet of water. Remember that at 1,000 feet of water lead pipe collapses. These are the incredible forces that these submarines must endure.

'A grave scandal': The administration of the second Catholic president won't stop targeting the church, experts warn "IndyWatch Feed Fertility"

The Biden administration has put Catholic individuals and organizations under an unprecedented level of scrutiny by using the FBI and Department of Justice to infiltrate churches and prosecute members, according to experts that spoke to the Daily Caller News Foundation. President Joe Biden, the second Catholic president after John F. The administration has been criticized for its attacks on the church, including issuing an FBI memo earlier this year calling traditional Catholics a domestic threat. Andrea Picciotti-Bayer, director of the Conscience Project and a fellow at the Institute of Human Ecology at the Catholic University of America, told the DCNF that the president's administration has "embraced the...

Hemp Has Helped Preserve the Ellora Caves in India "IndyWatch Feed Diy"

The Ellora Caves in Mumbai Harbour are a magnificent complex of rock-cut caves with artwork dating back to 1000 CE, but the formations have stood the test of time. Archaeologists have wondered why they were in such good condition. Was it a special kind of rock that served as the foundation? Were there ancient principles of architecture?

A study was conducted to determine what gave the Ellora caves their durability and strength. The answer lies in a mixture of hemp with clay and lime plaster. This simple mix has preserved the 1,500-year-old caves from being degraded.

The team used various methods to arrive at this conclusion, including scanning using the electron microscope, Fourier transform, infrared spectroscopy and stereo-microscopic studies. In order to determine if the building blocks did indeed contain hemp, cannabis samples were collected from Jalna in Aurangabad and Delhi and matched with one of the Ellora caves. It was a perfect match!

In the sample collected from the Ellora cave, we found a 10 percent sha...

Americas Largest Bitcoin Exchange Is Considering Leaving The Country "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Coinbase has been facing pressures that have led to the CEO stating it may be forced to go international.

Coinbase is considering establishing itself in another country should the United States' negative regulatory stance on Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies continue, according to CEO Brian Armstrong.

I think if a number of years go by where we dont see regulatory clarity emerge in the U.S., we may have to consider investing more in other regions of the world, Armstrong reportedly said in response to a question at a fintech conference Tuesday.

In March, it was reported that Coinbase had been in talks with investors and other interested parties about potentially launching an overseas exchange. The largest cryptocurrency and Bitcoin exchange by volume based in the United States, Coinbase has faced mounting regulatory pressures and challenges.

The company was recently forced to pay $100 million in fines based on regulatory findings that stated Coinbase had heightened risk of illegal activity. In addition, Coinbase recently stated that it may face SEC charges due to potential violations of securities laws. The company has highlighted its trepidation in blog posts that describe how 1 million tech jobs [are] at stake in [the] US due to regulatory uncertainty.

While some U.S. states are actively seeking to protect Bitcoin and the right to mine bitcoin, other legislative bodies see the need for increased regulatory scrutiny and legislation.

Amilius vs Belial The War Between Good and Evil Signs and Synchronicties

By Rev. Kat Carroll

I have many friends who are awakening and are excited to share articles theyve found on the crimes and corruption being exposed. Having been immersed in those dark waters for about 5 years, I am hyper aware of whats been happening, and frankly, Im tired of hearing the stories. I'm sure many of you feel the same. I understand that finding the information is part of the awakening process as truth must be exposed. However, we need to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel and strive for higher consciousness. Thats a hard goal to reach when always walking in the swamp! We are experiencing a planetary shift that includes the reduction of our electromagnetic field since the molten metal core of the planet stopped spinning in January this year. We are due for a pole shift, both physically and spiritually. The entire planet is experiencing a dark night of the soul, before snapping back to light. Although, some of us are already experiencing joy and peace in the light and are little effected by the news.

Ill show you what has come to me in recent meditations and by coincidence; messages from higher consciousness and Source itself. I've been shown that everything is indeed changing for the better despite the chaos portrayed. "The universe is unfolding as it should" - Max Ehrmann, Desiderata

Let's take a look at the two warring factions. The dark side I see two ancient groups fighting each other. One trying to maintain control of humanity, while the other strives to free us. There are rules to the game and universal laws. So, while the dark is busy trying to ruin those who work in the light, they can't ask for something to be applied to others that would not apply to themselves. At the moment, this is playing out in how we handle criminal...

Faring "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

To read Saskia Hamiltons Faring, the opening poem in her forthcoming collection, All Souls, is to move through time in acts of seeing and of noting what is seen. The morning ticks along as light enters to illuminate both the surrounding structure, window ledge, dovesand the sounds that seep in, wind, construction. To track the light, as the season moves into longer days, is to follow the shadows of others moving here and there behind curtains across the way. The cyclical nature of dawns return creates illusions of certainty for future days, though the speaker in Faring lives within an illness that names death its cure. This does not prevent loves negotiation with time, as a child withholds declarations of love in fear of times retaliatory embrace. For now, the day seems to say, Let the ordinary amaze, its the grace we hold.

Faring builds its rooms against the too-muchness of life, lifes actual, red-hot intensities, for fear that even the caring inquiry How are you faring? will no longer be a relevant question, or that the tracking of the gray morning sunrise will be the only relevant answer.

Like the eighteenth-century abolitionist poet William Cowper, who is called forward in Faring by his poemthe book open, perhaps, on the speakers bedside table, like table talkHamilton rests her sights on what can be apprehended from a bed, sofa, chair, or window, and named in the quotidian. These small recognitions ensure a lifes weightiness, wariness, worthiness. Three centuries after Cowper, its not the countryside but the cityscape that allows Hamilton access to her own inner landscape.

The brilliance of Faring, as well as its task, resides in its narrative charting of daily moments lived as a soothing down.

The Dalai Lama sparked controversy after a video of him kissing a boy and asking him to "suck my tongue" at an event in Northern India went viral. The event was organized last February by the M3M Foundation in the hillside city of Dharamshala, where the Dalai Lama lives in permanent exile. The viral video showed the young Indian boy approaching the 87-year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner before asking if he could hug him. The Dalai Lama invited the boy to the stage, pointed to his cheek, and said, "First here," prompting him to hug and kiss him. Afterward, he pointed to his lips and said, "Then I think finally here also," to the boy before pulling his chin and kissing him on the mouth. "And suck my tongue," The Dalai Lama said after a few seconds, poking his tongue out. The religious leader issued an apology through a statement in which he "wishes to apologize to the boy and his family, as well as his many friends across the world, for the hurt his words may have caused," adding that he "regrets" what he did. Some of the Dalai Lama's supporters spoke against the criticism, claiming they were misinterpreted under a "Western lens." In Tibet, culturally, showing one's tongue is considered an act of respecting and greeting people. Namdol Lhagyari, a Tibetan activist in exile, tweeted, "Bringing in the narrative of other cultures, customs and social influence on gender and sexuality to interpret Tibetan way of expression is heinous."

Here's Why Big Pharma Spends More On Ads Pushing Lower Benefit Drugs "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Big pharma spends more money on advertising for drugs that have lower health benefits for patients, according to a study published in JAMA on Tuesday, shedding new light on the almost uniquely American practice amid fierce debate over whether direct-to-consumer prescription drug ads should be banned. The proportion of advertising spending allocated to direct-to-consumer ads was an average of 14.3 percentage points higher for drugs with a low added benefit compared to those with a high added benefit, according to the peer-reviewed analysis of the 150 best-selling branded prescription drugs. Manufacturers of the top six best-selling drugs spent the bulk of their promotional budgetsmore than 90%targeting consumers directly rather than clinicians for a range of treatment options for conditions including HIV, multiple sclerosis and numerous cancers. The findings could suggest pharma firms are aiming promotional dollars directly towards consumers ... as part of a "strategy to drive patient demand for drugs that clinicians would be less likely to prescribe," said the study's lead author Michael DiStefano. Just two countries in the world allow drug makers to market prescription medications directly to consumers: the U.S. and New Zealand. Most countries prohibit directly advertising prescription medications to the public, something the WHO says influences both people and, indirectly, the medical professionals treating them, making it "harder to make decisions on evidence based medicine."

'Patient influencers' paid by Big Pharma to mislead followers: report "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

There's no better way to reach an audience today than through social media and Big Pharma is well aware of that. The video-sharing platform TikTok, for example, is being flooded with videos of users testifying to wellness through prescription drugs, with hashtags like #adhd (22.3B views), #ozempic (675.1M views) and #wegovy (259.3M views) consistently trending. Now, experts are warning about this misleading tactic by drugmakers, in paying popular social media users to espouse their products under the guise of honest reviews, in a new study published this week in the Journal of Medical Internet Research. These so-called patient influencers, or patient "advocates," are social media influencers who use their platform to promote pharmaceutical medications and/or medical devices. Researchers at the University of Colorado Boulder analyzed 26 recent interviews with patient influencers, who had been diagnosed with conditions such as lupus, fibromyalgia, Parkinson's disease, asthma, HIV, celiac disease, chronic migraines and perimenopause. The majority (69%) had previously collaborated with a pharmaceutical company in some way. The Federal Trade Commission mandates that influencers must disclose if they have been paid by using hashtags, such as by adding #ad or #sponsored to related posts, while the Food and Drug Administration has rules and regulations regarding what can be said on social posts. Nevertheless, many consumers fail to decipher a sponsored ad from genuine peer-to-peer advice.

Psychoactive Drugs Often Linked to Mass Shootings "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

We urgently need a national debate about guns. But we also urgently need a national debate about the epidemic of mood-altering drugs being prescribed to young Americans. Mass shooters in the United States tend to be young, obsessive, male loners and many have been prescribed psychoactive drugs. For example, Eric Harris, one of the two shooters at Columbine High School in Columbine, Colorado, in 1999which ushered in the current spate of mass shootingswas on the psychotropic drug Luvox. Prescribing information for the antidepressant says, "Close supervision of patients and in particular those at high risk should accompany drug therapy." Jeff Weise, who fatally shot his grandfather, his grandfather's girlfriend, and then seven others at the Red Lake Senior High School in Minnesota in 2005, was on the well-known antidepressant Prozac. Two years later, Cho Seung-Hui, who perpetrated the Virginia Tech mass shooting, also was found to be on psychoactive antidepressants. Jeanne Stolzer, associate professor of child and adolescent development at the University of Nebraska-Kearney, observes that "despite the multitude of international drug regulatory warnings on all classifications of psychiatric medications citing adverse reactions such as suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, violence, and psychosis, not one local, state, or federal commission has investigated the correlation between the mass shootings in America and the use of psychiatric medications."

Note: Although Epoch Times is often deemed as a controversial media platform, this article raises legitimate questions on an important topic seldom discussed. Read a revealing article that investigates the alarming adverse events associated with common mood-altering medications prescribed for those struggling with mental illness. For more on this concerning trend, consider exploring an in-depth article written by an anonymous doctor who reveals the decades of evidence showing how adverse reactions from psychiatric drugs can manifest as both suicides and homicides.

Do COVID-19 vaccine mandates still make sense? "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Visitors to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) in Washington, D.C. ... must show a guard proof that they have been vaccinated against COVID-19. Such demands were common around the world a year ago. But by now, almost everyone has had natural infections with SARS-CoV-2 or been vaccinated against the coronavirussometimes bothand it's become clear that vaccine-induced immunity quickly loses its ability to prevent infection and spread of the latest variants. Some now say the mandates are outdated. The persistent requirements are "baffling to say the least," says Heidi Larson, an anthropologist at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and director of the Vaccine Confidence Project. She spoke at a major infectious disease meeting this year that required all attendees to show they had had two doses of a vaccinewith no need for a recent booster. "It's not like it's going to mitigate the spread." Larson and other vaccine acceptance researchers who spoke to Science all emphasize that COVID-19 vaccines clearly prevent severe disease, but they worry maintaining the mandates could undermine future public health efforts. "Having to show these old vaccination proofs or certificates really doesn't make sense, and it could cause harm, because people might lose trust in the competence of the organization," says University of Konstanz psychologist Katrin Schmelz. Immunity acquired from a Covid infection is as protective as vaccination against severe illness and death, study finds "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Immunity acquired from a Covid infection provides strong, lasting protection against the most severe outcomes of the illness, according to research published Thursday in The Lancet protection, experts say, that's on par with what's provided through two doses of an mRNA vaccine. Infection-acquired immunity cut the risk of hospitalization and death from a Covid reinfection by 88% for at least 10 months, the study found. "This is really good news, in the sense that protection against severe disease and death after infection is really quite sustained at 10 months," said the senior study author, Dr. Christopher Murray ... at the University of Washington. The study was the largest meta-analysis to date to look at immunity following infection. It included 65 studies from 19 countries and compared the risk of developing Covid again in people who had recovered from infections to people who hadn't been infected through September. The immunity generated from an infection was found to be "at least as high, if not higher" than that provided by two doses of an mRNA vaccine, the authors wrote. While Murray and Wachter agreed that vaccination remains the safest route, having a past Covid infection should at least be considered in policymaking decisions going forward, such as vaccination requirements, they said. "What Europe did with this evidence made a lot of sense, which is where evidence of past infection was seen as essentially equal to vaccination in terms of requirements to go into events or for employment," Murray said.

Note: It's worthy of mentioning that much of the media previously dismissed the effectiveness of natural immunity to protect against COVID, with mainstream media platforms blatantly claiming that natural immunity is "not panning out" and "comes at a cost." Japan says 1.5m people are living as recluses after Covid "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Almost 1.5 million people of working age in Japan are living as social recluses, according to a government survey, with about a fifth of cases attributed to the pressures unleashed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Large numbers of hikikomori said they had begun retreating from mainstream society due to relationship issues and after losing or leaving their jobs. A significant proportion 20.6% said their predicament had been triggered by changes in lifestyle imposed during the pandemic. Hikikomori classed as people who withdraw from society, spending all or almost all of their time isolated at home account for 2% of people aged 15-62. The cabinet office surveyed 30,000 people between the ages of 10 and 69. The poll found that just over a fifth of respondents aged 15-39 had been socially isolated. More than 20% said they had experienced problems with interpersonal relationships, while just over 18% cited the pandemic. Among people in the 40-64 age range, 44.5% said their behaviour had been triggered by leaving their jobs, followed by 20.6% who cited the pandemic. Japan did not enforce UK-style lockdowns to help contain the spread of the virus, but people were asked to avoid unnecessary outings ... and some employers and universities encouraged teleworking and remote learning. On streets that would normally have been teeming with people there was a dramatic drop in footfall after restaurants, bars and other sectors of the nighttime economy were asked to stop serving alcohol and close early, or face fines.

South Korea to give $490 allowance to reclusive youths to help them leave the house "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

South Korea is to offer reclusive youths a monthly living allowance of 650,000 won ($490) in order to encourage them out of their homes, as part of a new measure passed by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family. The measure also offers education, job and health support. The condition is known as "hikikomori", a Japanese term that roughly translated means, "to pull back". The government wants to try to make it easier for those experiencing it to leave the house to go to school, university or work. Included in the programme ... is a monthly allowance for living expenses for people aged between nine and 24 who are experiencing extreme social withdrawal. It also includes an allowance for cultural experiences for teenagers. About 350,000 people between the ages of 19 and 39 in South Korea are considered lonely or isolated about 3% of that age group according to the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs. Secluded youth are often from disadvantaged backgrounds and 40% began living reclusively while adolescents, according to a government document outlining the measures. The document includes case studies that describe young people using reclusiveness as a way to cope. One young person describes their depression as a result of domestic violence. "When I was 15 years old, domestic violence made me depressed so much that I began to live in seclusion." Another said that they had become a recluse when their family "went bankrupt".

Note: A deeper perspective on this social crisis is how lockdown policies significantly deteriorated youth mental health during the lockdown, as seen in a new University of Cambridge paper. This paper is the first longitudinal study to trace the mental health effects of lockdowns and social isolation on younger children. The Most Dangerous International Treaty Ever Proposed "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Two international legal agreements [are] currently working their way through the World Health Organisation: a new pandemic treaty, and amendments to the 2005 International Health Regulations, both due to be put before the governing body of the WHO, the World Health Assembly, in May next year. As concerned scholars and jurists have detailed, these agreements threaten to fundamentally reshape the relationship between the WHO, national governments, and individuals. They would hardwire into international law a top-down supranational approach to public health in which the WHO, acting in some cases via the sole discretion of one individual, its Director General (DG), would be empowered to impose sweeping, legally binding directions on member states and their citizens. A global system for digital 'health certificates' for verification of vaccine status or test results would be routinised, and a bio-surveillance network ... would be embedded and expanded. The WHO has fallen largely under the control of private capital and other vested interests. Over 80 percent of the WHO's budget is now 'specified' funding by way of voluntary contributions typically earmarked for specific projects or diseases in a way that the funder specifies. The WHO [is] ordaining itself as the exclusive global controller not just of the identification of pandemics and potential pandemics but of the design and execution of pandemic responses, while also granting itself a vast health surveillance network and a global workforce.

Scientific Paper on Children, Wireless Technology, and Health Effects by Renowned Experts in Environmental Health "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

A state-of-the-art assessment on the scientific evidence of wireless radiation impacts on children's health published in the journal Current Problems in Pediatric and Adolescent Health Care concludes that the medical community has a critical role to play to prevent harm from wireless radiation. Written by distinguished experts in medicine, epidemiology, toxicology, physics, biochemical engineering and public health ... the paper references numerous studies that associate wireless exposure to effects including oxidative stress, DNA damage, cardiomyopathy, carcinogenicity, sperm damage, memory damage and neurological effects. Pregnancy, infancy and childhood are periods of critical susceptibility, especially for the brain, which is rapidly developing. "Current government safety limits are outdated and do not reflect the latest science nor the way children use wireless technology today," stated Linda Birnbaum Ph.D, former Director of the National Toxicology Program. Theodora Scarato, Executive Director of Environmental Health Trust, highlighted the international policies to reduce children's exposure, such as France and Belgium's bans on the sale of cell phones designed for young children and the numerous countries that have restrictions on Wi-Fi exposure in classrooms. She stated that, "US government limits allow radiation emissions 10 to 100 times higher than numerous countries such as Switzerland, Italy, China, Russia and India."

The Pesticide Industry's Playbook for Poisoning the Earth "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

In 2013, the European Union called for a temporary suspension of the most commonly used neonicotinoid-based products on flowering plants, citing the danger posed to bees an effort that resulted in a permanent ban in 2018. In the U.S., however, industry dug in, seeking not only to discredit the research but to cast pesticide companies as a solution to the problem. Lobbying documents and emails ... show a sophisticated effort over the last decade by the pesticide industry to obstruct any effort to restrict the use of neonicotinoids. Bayer and Syngenta, the largest manufacturers of neonics, and Monsanto, one of the leading producers of seeds pretreated with neonics, cultivated ties with prominent academics ... and other scientists who had once called for a greater focus on the threat posed by pesticides. A study published in peer-reviewed journal PLOS One found that the American landscape has become 48 times more toxic to insects since the 1990s, a shift largely fueled by the rising application of neonics. "Generally, we see the U.S. waiting longer than the EU to take action on a variety of pesticides and other chemicals," said [Willa] Childress ... with Pesticide Action Network North America. Part of the divergence, Childress continued, stems from a regulatory system in the U.S. that assumes chemical products are generally safe until proven hazardous. In contrast, the EU tends to use the "precautionary principle," removing products that may cause harm.

The trauma doctor: Gabor Mat on happiness, hope and how to heal our deepest wounds "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

[Gabor] Mat was born in January 1944; in May of that year, the deportation of Hungary's Jews to Auschwitz began. By the end of the Holocaust, 565,000 Hungarian Jews had been murdered, Mat's maternal grandparents among them. When he was 11 months old, his mother sent him with a stranger to be cared for by his aunt. Mat says trauma, from the Greek for "wound", "is not what happens to you; it is what happens inside you as a result of what happens to you. It is not the blow on the head, but the concussion I get." That, he says, is the good news. "If my trauma was that my mother gave me to a stranger ... that will never not have happened. But if the wound was that I decided as a result that I wasn't worthwhile as a human being, I wasn't lovable, that's a wound that can heal at any time." There can be two types of wound, he says. "There's the capital-T traumatic events," which include things like being abused as a child and the loss of a parent. Then there are "small-T traumas". "You can wound a kid not only by doing bad things to them, but by also not meeting their needs," he says. Mat has a heightened level of compassion. For him, the real villain is our culture. Many of the plights of modern society are, he says, natural responses to an unhealthy culture. Take addiction. His view is that there is no such thing as an "addictive personality". Nor is addiction a disease. His mantra is: "Don't ask why the addiction, ask why the pain. Addiction is a normal response to trauma."

Note: The Wisdom of Trauma is a powerful film that travels alongside Dr. Gabor Mat in his quest to discover the connection between illness, addiction, trauma, and society. Deeply touching and captivating in its diverse portrayal of real human stories, the film also provides a new vision of a trauma-informed society that seeks to understand the sources from which troubling behaviors and diseases spring in the wounded human soul. Anyone can watch this donation-optional film at the above link.

What Everyone Should Know About the Brain's Ability to Heal "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Our brains are made up of billions of cells that work together to create our every ability. Wipe out those cells, through a stroke or other brain trauma, and you may no longer be able to read, but you might still be able to speak, sing or write. It's all about where the brain is damaged which systems of cells are traumatized and which are not. The three-pound mass of neurological tissue that we call the brain has the power not only to create every ability we have but also to manifest our perception of reality. Our brains have a two-pronged defense mechanism that kicks in when brain trauma occurs. Not only are we able to grow some new neurons a process called neurogenesis especially in the sites where physical trauma has occurred, our brain cells are capable of neuroplasticity, which means they can rearrange which other neurons they are in communication with. That's why, whenever I meet someone who has experienced a brain trauma of any sort, I don't focus on what abilities that person has lost, but rather I marvel at what insights that person might have gained because of the experience. Few things have greater impact on how people choose to live their lives than neurological trauma or near-death experiences. And when we find ourselves to be neurologically impaired, we become vulnerable and need others to support us rather than criticize or judge us. I became a much more compassionate and empathetic person following my stroke and recovery. Perhaps I am not the only one.

Mindfulness better than CBT for treating depression, study finds "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Practising mindfulness is much better than taking part in talking therapies at helping people recover from depression, a British study has found. People who used a mindfulness self-help book for eight weeks and had six sessions with a counsellor experienced a 17.5% greater improvement in recovery from depressive symptoms than those who underwent cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) while being supported by a mental health practitioner. Their results have been published in JAMA Psychiatry. The NHS says mindfulness involves people paying attention to "what is going on inside and outside ourselves, moment by moment" and "the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of the present moment" as well as being aware of their thoughts and feelings as they happen. People using mindfulness in the LIGHTMind 2 trial spent eight weeks following the advice in The Mindful Way Workbook, which helps them build up their mindfulness skills by guiding them on what they should do every day in order to be aware of their thoughts, feelings and physical sensations in a non-judgmental way. Doing that helps people address some of the behaviours that can maintain feelings of depression. They also had six one-to-one half-hour "support sessions" on the telephone with a therapist discussing their progress, experience of practising mindfulness and asking questions. Mindfulness-based treatment is also a cheaper way of tackling depression because people using it needed on average 526 less of subsequent treatment.

Pentagon Tries to Cast Bank Runs as National Security Threat "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

In recent months, the Pentagon has moved to provide loans, guarantees, and other financial instruments to technology companies it considers crucial to national security a step beyond the grants and contracts it normally employs. So when Silicon Valley Bank threatened to fail in March following a bank run, the defense agency advocated for government intervention to insure the investments. The Pentagon had even scrambled to prepare multiple plans to get cash to affected companies if necessary, reporting by Defense One revealed. Their interest in Silicon Valley Bank stems from the Pentagon's brand-new office, the Office of Strategic Capital. The secretary of defense established the OSC in December specifically to counteract the investment power of adversaries like China in U.S. technologies, and to secure separate funding for companies whose products are considered vital to national security. The national security argument for bailout, notably, found an influential friend in the Senate. As the Biden administration intervened to protect Silicon Valley Bank depositors on March 12, Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., who chairs the powerful Senate Intelligence Committee and also sits on the Banking Committee, issued a press release warning that the bank run posed a national security risk. Warner the only member of Congress to have publicly tied SVB to national security has received significant contributions from the financial sector. Since 2012, Warner has received over $21,000 from Silicon Valley Bank's super PAC.

Anybody else on here feel like the US is heading in the direction of a second civil war? Im not American but I do love the United States. I listened to a prophet who said something along the lines of George Washington was praying for America and God showed him that America would go through three great wars; the first being the American revolution, the second being the civil war, and the third being another war that is yet to come. I think it is part of the destiny of the United States. We...

Unchained Announces $60M Series B Fundraising Round "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Funding led by Valor Equity Partners and other existing investors will go towards the firms expansion and improvement.

Unchained, a financial services provider for bitcoin holders, has announced that it has raised $60 million in its Series B funding round. The funding was led by Valor Equity Partners and included participation from existing investors such as NYDIG, Trammell Venture Partners, Ecliptic Capital and Highland Capital Partners. According to a press release sent to Bitcoin Magazine, funding will be used to expand Unchaineds client base and improve its suite of financial services.

Unchaineds collaborative custody model aims to use Bitcoins native multisignature capabilities to provide the benefits of self-custody while mitigating risks associated with self-custody. The model allows clients to share control of their bitcoin between private keys they hold themselves and private keys held by Unchained and other financial services companies. The platform currently secures over $2 billion in bitcoin across thousands of keys worldwide, according to the press release.

Vivek Pattipati, a Partner at Valor who will be joining Unchaineds Board of Directors, described Unchaineds current position, saying that in the midst of market chaos, Unchained has emerged as a highly trusted provider of Bitcoin custody and financial services through superior technology, risk management, regulatory compliance, and client service.

The company has originated over $500 million in bitcoin-collateralized loans since 2017, the press release states, while experiencing zero loan losses. The Unchained trading desk allows clients to buy bitcoin directly to cold storage, and its IRA offering allows clients to hold keys to their bitcoin within tax-advantaged retirement accounts, which the release notes is an industry-first.

Unchained feels that as bitcoin continues to grow in adoption, there is a tremendous opportunity for products that bridge into the traditional dollar ecosystem around credit, trading, investment and other financial services. Using this fresh capital investment to expand our reach and suite of services, we hope to enable new entrants to Bitcoin to leapfrog centralized custodians into our safer collaborative custody model, said Unchained CEO Joe Kelly.

Watch a Trumpeter Play Fire in a Classic Physics Experiments That Lets Us See Sound "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Watch a Trumpeter Play Fire in a Classic Physics Experiments That Lets Us See Sound

Ruben's Tube Experiment

Photo: Screenshot from Reddit

Its not often we get to see sound. Perhaps we occasionally notice the digital waves in a voice recording, but watching sound happenespecially in real lifeis a rarity. One classic physics experiment, however, allows us to do just that. Called Rubens Tube, or a standing wave flame tube, it displays the relationship between sound waves and sound pressure. A viral post on Reddit demonstrates what this looks like in practice using a Rubens Tube powered by a trumpet. The mesmerizing result is a spectacular display of scientific principles.

The physics experiment was created by German physicist Heinrich Rubens in 1905. The setup involves a piece of pipe that has holes drilled along its top and is sealed on either end. One end is a propane tank (or other supply of flammable gas) and the other is the source of the sound. The pipe is then lit and a standing flame appears. When a sound is madein this case, the trumpet playsthe oscillating pressure of the sound waves lets gas escape and shapes the sound curve.

The trumpet player shows how quickly sound waves change, and how the various notes in his tune play a role in manipulating the flame. Its a reminder that even the smallest things in our world are incredible when you stop to consider the physics of it all.

Scroll down to see the trumpet Rubens Tube video that has gone viral as well as more videos featuring the experiment.

An Unwitting Consumer Finds Himself Out of His Depth in the Stop-Motion Animation Five Cents "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Stumbling upon a coin purse, a lone consumer finds himself in possession of a bit of extra change in the stop-motion animation Five Cents. Aaron Hughes created the film by using thousands of market analysis pages from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Financial Times, on top of which he applied layers of ink, Wite-Out, gold leaf, and gouache. A symbolic and witty criticism of capitalist society and how economic mechanisms like inflation impact the everyday cost of living, Hughes solitary character purchases essentials like glasses and an umbrella before being hoodwinked into unnecessary purchases.

Five Cents won the 2022 South by Southwest Animated Short Audience Award, and you can see more of Hughes work on Vimeo.
