French Cyclists Create Record-Breaking GPS Drawing of a 637-Mile-Long Dinosaur "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

French Cyclists Create Record-Breaking GPS Drawing of a 637-Mile-Long Dinosaur

Richie Porte on the Mountains Roads - Tour de France 2015

Photo: razvanphoto/Depositphotos (Not a photo of the actual event.)

Four French cyclists have claimed the Guinness World Record for the largest GPS drawing by a bicycle team. Their winning piece: a 1,025 km-long (637-mile-long) depiction of a velociraptor that took 43 hours and 47 minutes to complete. The dinosaur's body was drawn over the course of six days, encompassing several French counties, including Cher, Saone-et-Loire, Indre, Nievre, Creuse, Puy-de-dome, and Allier.

The group chose a velociraptor as their inspiration because it includes velo in the name, which means bicycle in French. It required a year of planning to figure out the route that would bring the dinosaur to life, and they finally began their record-breaking ride in November 2022. Guinness announced their record in March 2023.

Dinosaurs are proof that such strong species can quickly become extinct, Maxime Brugre, one of the cyclists, says. We are the main culprits of this environmental crisis, but also its main victims. As such, the future is in our hands and cycling is one of the best ways to contribute to change. He and the team describe themselves as triathletes and daily commuters who emphasize the benefits of using bicycles over cars. They shared their dinosaur creation with the fitness app Strava and have received thousands of likes by others in the cycling community.

Four French cyclists win largest GPS drawing by a bicyclist team by creating a 1,025 km-long (approximately 637-mile-long) dinosaur.

Working on Ice Floes, David Popa Renders Ephemeral Portraits that Fracture and Split into the Sea "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

A portrait of a woman is rendered on a fractured ice floe

Bemuse. All images David Popa, shared with permission

After a decade of living in Finland, David Popa has established a fruitful creative collaboration that would be impossible in his native New York City. The artist frequently works on land and sea, particularly the fractured ice floes of the Baltic, to render large-scale portraits and figurative murals that draw connections between the ephemerality of human life and the environment. Whether depicting his wife or newborn child in intimate renderings, he highlights the inevitability of change as time passes, seasons transition, and the climate warms.

Popas use of such unconventional canvases emerged from a desire for adventure and child-like play, when he put on a drysuit, climbed onto his paddleboard, and ventured out to a frozen mass. These spaces were so mysterious and so interesting, the artist says. I derived an enormous amount of inspiration from going out into these ethereal spots. After taking some drone photos of the areas, he began working, spraying the contours of a cheek or lip onto the icy matter.

The Birder "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

Bird lore, 1906. National Committee of Audobon Societies of America. Courtesy of Wikimedia Commons.

I knew a birder once. I liked himits pointless to deny it and in any case I dont think I can write about him without it being abundantly clearthough we redirected early enough that friendship seemed possible. For him it always was a friendship, anyway. Still, the birding excursion was definitely a date. Perhaps he was curious about whether hed discover feelings for me among the pineswhether what psychologists call the misattribution of desire might be prompted by seeing a rare bird in my presence. We only saw regular birds, though: grackles, goldfinches, a great blue heron.

He was a birder but he was mostly a musician. I would have found it satisfying to discover that these were two sides of the same coin for him: its nice, after all, when people cohere, when you can discern a uniform purpose or a set of underlying values across their various pursuits. But the truth, really, is that people are more than one thing, and for most of his life, birds were an inconsequential if benign presence. It wasnt until the 2020 lockdown that he discovered how far he was willing to go for their sake: a tundra swan in Pittsfield, a Pacific golden plover in Newburyport.

He was a musician first, thougha conductor. This meant he could replicate plaintive calls and fluttering warbles with a melodic accuracy far beyond the typical naturalists, and distinguishing between overlapping cries was hardly more difficult than finding the rogue soprano within a thirty-voice section. That comparison is mine, of course: conducting is not so much like birding, if you are really paying attention. Choir is about connection, he told me onceto the music, to other people. But you dont need other people to walk around a lake in Woburn and check for sleeping owls. I just happened to be there.

He had one friend. This friend lived in Pennsylvania, but...

Coachella 2023 Art Installations

Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2023 installation view of Kumkum Fernando, The Messengers, photo by Lance Gerber, courtesy of Coachella

In preparation for the 2023 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, artists from around the world were selected to transform the desert landscape. This year's edition features the massive sculptural works by Kumkum Fernando, Vincent Leroy, Gven zel, and Maggie West, which permeate the skyline with architectural shapes, bright colors, and opalescent details. From towering robotic figures to larger-than-life flora, these eye-catching pieces envelop the festival with vibrancy and creativity.

While Coachella is commonly known for its musical aspect, art plays a major role in setting the atmosphere and enhancing the experience of the festival. In selecting projects from around the world, our intention is to bring together artists, architects, and designers whose practices invite participation, inclusion, and transformation, says curatorial advisor Raffi Lehrer. We strive to create a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural program that reflects our audience and the many performing artists that grace the stages of the festival. The resulting works will become iconspart of the identity of this year's show. These installations act simultaneously as way-finding markers, points of congregation, and most importantly, accessible entry points for show-goers to experience art.

Each year, the festival has grown artistically, attracting talented creatives to dis...

The Olympic Ring between Apollo and Daphne by OZMO in Paris, France "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

OZMO, on the occasion of the Plante Priphrique Festival, the project organized by the RAS association and realized with the support of RIVP and the Mairie du 20eme,  had the opportunity to create an artistic intervention that develops on the exterior walls of an entire building located in the heart of the Python-Duvernois district, in Porte de Bagnolet, in the 20th arrondissement of Paris.
The context and the formal features of the building inspired him for this project: it is impossible to think of painting on the main facade, full of balconies, windows and pillars, so he tried to find a solution that would make these elements become an integral part of the main subject: a huge, fiery red ring.

Orange Pill App Is Accelerating Hyperbitcoinization In Real Life "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Orange Pill App brings Bitcoiners together, demonstrates demand for adoption to local businesses and propels the bitcoin standard.

This is an opinion editorial by Robert Hall, a content creator and small business owner who has an Orange Pill App profile.

The team over at Orange Pill App is breaking new ground toward Bitcoin adoption on a peer-to-peer level. But if you dont know anything about this platform, here is a quick rundown:

Its an app available on iOS or Android that helps you find local Bitcoiners in your area. How often have you felt like you are the only Bitcoiner in town? I know I have plenty of time. Wouldnt it be nice to make new friends that love Bitcoin as much as you do in real life?

This is what the Orange Pill App is all about: building friendships and building a thriving Bitcoin community one meetup or connection at a time. As of this writing, there are thousands of users.

Users can list their Bitcoin-focused events and attract attendees from their areas. Source: Orange Pill App

In addition to helping you to find new Bitcoiners in your area, Orange Pill App is also on a mission to orange pill businesses. How much better would it be if we could spend sats at our local bars, hotels or restaurants? That would be awesome, right?

It definitely would add some rocket fuel toward the goal of achieving a bitcoin standard. To make this happen, Orange Pill App has partnered with BTCMap.org to use demand-side pressure to orange pill merchants en masse.

When this new feature is launched, the app will be able to plug the number of its users into BTC Map to show how many Bitcoiners are in a given area. This data will be shown to business owners so they can understand if there is an active group of Bitcoiners ready to spend sats at their establishments.

This is a win for small business owners, because they can instantly gain new customers without advertising. Bitcoiners are eager to spend sats and support businesses that accept bitcoin. One thing I understand about Bitcoiners is they are loyal and believe in Bitcoin to the core of their beings.

A Shocking UN Document Reveals The Sick Sexual Agenda That The Globalists Plan To Push On The Whole World "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

They arent going to stop until they impose their twisted values on the entire planet.  If you have not heard of The 8 March Principles yet, you can find the entire document right here.  It is essentially a blueprint for synchronizing all global laws regarding sexuality, gender and reproductive rights.  UNAIDS is one of the organizations that was involved in drafting this document, and on their official website they claim that many global laws that prohibit certain types of sexual behavior not only violate human rights, but the fundamental principles of criminal law themselves.  Alarmingly, among the laws that are being targeted by the globalists are laws that ban adults from having sex with children. It turns out that they have been working on The 8 March Principles for quite a long time. In fact, UNAIDS says that it took over five years to finalize this new document
The principles are the outcome of a 2018 workshop organized by UNAIDS and OHCHR along with the ICJ to discuss the role of jurists in addressing the harmful human rights impact of criminal laws. The meeting resulted in a call for a set of jurists principles to assist the courts, legislatures, advocates and prosecutors to address the detrimental human rights impact of such laws. From Revelations to Revolutions  Why a "transition" is no longer a sustainable option

Wth guest presenter, Elaine Buxton

Elaine is a long standing member and volunteer with Prepare for Change.  She is also a researcher and writer for PFC and has her own Substack account.  Saturday's talk will cover some of the articles she has produced from her research.

___

For the past 2 to 3 years, we have been referring to negative events as a "transition". We, the enlightened ones, are living in a dualistic, metaphysical matrix.  The ways of 3D materialistic living are no longer sustainable, and we aspire to a higher vibrational level of existence.  Many people call this ascending to 5D.  Instead of passively complying with the technocrats plan for Agenda 21/30 and the end of biological humanity, we MUST create a vision for a newer, better way of self-governance. Our political, economic, and social infrastructures are crumbling, set on fire by homicidal, narcissistic oligarchs with Satanic, demonic ideology.  They have been planning a Great Reset for over a century and 2023 is the first year of their New World Order according to the World Economic Forum It meets all the criteria for a revolution. We are in an existential crisis, and just like Russia, Western civilization must fight for its survival.  Democracy has been taken over by a corrupt mob who hunger for totalitarian control of the planet.  Instead of passively transitioning to technocracy controlled by AI, I propose creating an alternate ideology and political philosophy on Weekend Awakenings.  It is the next urgently needed step in preparing for change.  W...

A History of the World According to Getty Images Challenges the Power Structures Inherent in the Capture and Control of Footage "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

When a creative materials copyright lapses, it enters the public domain, which means it is no longer subject to trademarks, patents, or intellectual property rights. No individual, company, author, or artist owns it, and it belongs to the public. If this is the case, why is some public domain footage so expensive? This is the question at the core of Richard Miseks short film A History of the World According to Getting Images in which he explores how historically significant footage from newsreels, government agencies, and pioneers of film are held captive behind paywalls.

Beyond the history contained within the images, Misek examines footage itself and what happens after its captured. He focuses on Getty Images, the worlds largest commercial archive, challenging its control over public footage, which it only makes available through steep licensing fees. In the case of The Miles Brothers iconic short film A Trip Down Market Street, which captures downtown San Francisco just days before the devastating 1906 earthquake, the film was digitized in 2016 by the Prelinger Archive and made available for free, while Getty charges hundreds or thousands of dollars for the rights to use the footage, depending on its intended use.

A clip of a historic film reel made by the Miles Brothers called

Misek parses the unequal power dynamics inherent within capturing life and major events, in addition to the barriers to accessing that footage today. Newsreel cameras document power, but what strikes me most from my exploration of the Getty Archive, is how much the act of filming itself is an expression of power, Misek narrates. He points out that footage shot by the government, like the first...

Succession Star Brian Cox Tells the Entire Histories of Ancient Greece and Rome in 20 Minutes Each "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Spoiler alert: The death of Logan Roy the weekend before last marked the end of an era. Or at the very least, it was notable for occasioning, in the Los Angeles Times, perhaps the first newspaper obituary of a fictional character. Roy was the mogul-patriarch at the center of the hit black comedy-drama Succession, which is now approaching the end of its fourth and final season on HBO. Brian Coxs performance in that role had much to do with the success of Succession, so to speak, not least because he clearly understood that, for all its of-the-moment references, the series narrative is deeply rooted in concepts like dynasty and empire, which themselves extend way back to antiquity.

Antiquity happens to be the subject of two videos Cox narrated, just before the premiere of Succession, for the Youtube channel Arzamas. Ancient Greece in 18 Minutes and Ancient Rome in 20 Minutes deliver just what their titles promise, brief but clear and well-informed primers on the classical civilizations that modern Westerners have long thought of as the precursors to their own.

Is Elon Musks Starlink Aiding And Abetting Brazilian Criminals? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

If youre looking for one more reason to dislike Elon Musk, never fear I dont think were going to run out of them anytime soon.

That said, Im not sure anyone had aiding and abetting Brazilian criminals on their BINGO card, either.

Musks satellite-powered internet Starlink allows people all over the world even in remote spots access to the internet, which sounds like a good thing.

Until you realize that also brings internet access to places like illegal Brazilian mining operations in the Amazon.

We know because during a recent raid, environmental officials reported finding a Starlink terminal up and running next to an illegal mining pit.

The First Command of the Capital is the criminal organization running the area, and they appear to be experts officials have seized at least seven similar terminals from other busted operations.

And thats just happened recently.

Word-thought for the day: replacing risk with chance "IndyWatch Feed Fertility"

Risk and chance: which word is less likely to evoke a stress response?

Almost any time we use the word risk in relation to childbirth, we could choose to use the word chance instead. The meaning stays the same but it is no longer cloaked in fear. Sara Wickham.

This is one of my favourite things to say and share.

I originally posted something on this a few years ago after talking to midwives and medical students about statistics and the language that we use when we talk to women about evidence and decision-making.

I am concerned that, whether by accident or design, the language that is used tends to over-emphasise the potential downsides of certain courses of action (or inaction) in ways that range from unhelpful to downright misleading.

I could say lots more about this, and have discussed it in almost every book that I have written.

But today I want to focus on just the one word: risk.

Because almost any time we use the word risk in relation to childbirth, we could choose to use the word chance instead.  The meaning stays the same but it is no longer cloaked in fear.

We also need different ways of saying low risk and high risk. Those are also inaccurate and misleading terms, and Ive written more on this in several of my books as well.

Everyday Products That Have Surprisingly Useful Secondary Uses "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Our houses are filled with products. Some of the we think well use every day and others we actually do use every day, but either way, wouldnt it be amazing if we could get even more bang for our buck?

These folks say youve definitely got a few things hanging out that you should be using in more ways than one and heres what and how!

The sticky stuff.

Any kind of cooking oil will easily get pine sap off of your hands. Just use it like soap.

Its cheap, too.

Use salt as an abrasive and absorber when cleaning. I spray my stove top with a general household cleaner then sprinkle salt liberally over the top. It gets grease out easily.

For liquid stains like wine, I pour salt over the stain to soak up excess liquid then come through with hydrogen peroxide. Finally I get absorbent towels and dab clean it.

If youve got kids, you know.

Any cooking oil is a great way to remove the residue from stickers.

Idk if this is recommended but if you get scratches on wood furniture Ive always taken a matching washable marker, colored over the scratch, and then wiped it with a damp cloth (to effectively stain the wood back to match).

Dish soap is so handy.

Scuba diver here. Instead of using those expensive defogger gels and sprays on your mask, smear a bunch of dish soap in it, rinse once or twice, and your mask will never fog during the dive.

You can also use this method to keep your windshield from fogging. Smear a bunch of dish soap on a towel, then rub it all over the inside of your windshield. Take another damp towel and rub the soap off until your wind sh...

Bitcoin Researchers Introduce Civ Kit, A P2P Marketplace Built On Nostr And The Lightning Network "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Civ Kit aims to become a fully-fledged marketplace while retaining the censorship resistant and permissionless nature of open-source tech.

Bitcoin enthusiasts have introduced a new academic white paper detailing the Civ Kit, which aims to establish a peer-to-peer (P2P) electronic market system that is resistant to censorship and permissionless. The paper was authored by Antoine Riard, Nicholas Gregory and Ray Youssef, who have shared the paper with the Bitcoin developer community for feedback. The Civ Kit combines the Nostr architecture with the Lightning Network, prioritizing privacy and security through escrowed trades, decentralized identity, moderation, a P2P messaging protocol, and know-your-peer (KYP) oracles for adjudication, a press release shared with Bitcoin Magazine stated. The system aims to support all kinds of trading, including goods and services.

The researchers will gradually release code and modules, extensively building on top of the Lightning Dev Kit and Nostr libraries, the press release explained. Civ Kit development will bind to the same open-source and transparency standards as Bitcoin Core and libsecp256k1.

The Civ Kit's design will emphasize trust and reputation within the marketplace, and the press release described how borrowing and lending can be added by using a universal credit score for all traders calculated by a combination of success of trades (Web-of-Stakes) and Web-of-Trust techniques that act as a trustless source of truth. The Civ Kit has been peer-reviewed by some of the best minds in the Lightning and Discreet Log Contract engineering communities, the press release said.

Nicholas Gregory, one of the authors of The Civ Kit, has been involved in developing Bitcoin infrastructure since 2016, and hopes that the initiative will boost Bitcoin's circular economy. He stated, "I truly hope this initiative serves as a unique piece of the puzzle to boost Bitcoin's circular economy, which, if we're honest, has not reached its full potential in 2023."

Ray Youssef, founder of Paxful and the Built With Bitcoin Foundation, another of the paper's authors, said he is committed to carrying on the work of Satoshi Nakamoto to provide the world with the ability to build unstoppable free markets.

The title of the Bitcoin white paper spoke about a peer-to-peer electronic cash system yet the P2P industry is under attack from international powers who feed off centralized fiat currencies and the control they wield, Youssef said. At the same time, billions of people have been relegated to non-existence by this failed system. Bitcoin is the solution and were not backing down.

The team behind the white paper is working to integrate the research into...

Here Are A Few Ways You Can Answer Interview Questions About Your Biggest Weakness "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Not all job interviews are exactly the same, but once youve been through enough of them, you realize they do have a lot of similarities. And one thing that always seems to come up is your biggest weakness.

I think they want to know that youre able to self-reflect, and maybe also that you can see ways to improve, but either way, it can be a chore to come up with exactly the right answer.

Dont worry anymore, though, because these people have some great suggestions for how to answer it next time.

Hard to spin.

They have been for engineering interviews and its well known that you work on 1/10 of a project, so I thought it was fitting and then leads into discussing what roles exactly that I was applying for.

My biggest weakness is actually organization, but I dont like spinning that one because I seriously doubt Ill improve in that category more than I have so far.

Tongue in cheek.

What is your greatest weakness? Ummmm probably that I have no strengths

Im not sure thats a weakness.

im bad at interviews. I guess I dont do them very often. I have typically stayed at previous jobs for a long time

New York State Says No to Native Mascots "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

New York States Board of Regents has voted to officially ban school districts statewide from using Native imagery and reductive names for school mascots and sports teams. Affected schools have until the end of the academic year to show concerted efforts to re-brand and must comply with the ban by June 30, 2025.

Last November, the State Education Department issued a letter indicating that the state would be prioritizing and enforcing this decision by 2023. Apparently, the state has been trying to phase out the use of such names and imagery since 2001, but dozens of school districts, including 11 high schools on Long Island, have yet to comply.

While many, but not all, schools with team names such as Indians, Redmen, and Tomahawks have already voted to adopt new names themselves or retire their mascots, some are still using ambiguous terms such as Braves and Warriors with accompanying side-profile caricatures of Indigenous men with feathered war bonnets, red skin tones, and aggressive expressions.

Indian mascots and stereotypes present a misleading image of Indian people and feed the historic myths that have been used to whitewash a history of oppression, the National Congress of American Indians stated on its...

David Choes Rape Stories Come Back to Haunt Him "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Some may know of artist and actor David Choe from Netflixs new dark comedy Beef (2023), released earlier this month, and others may remember him for becoming a multimillionaire after accepting stock in lieu of monetary payments from Facebook for a commissioned mural in their Palo Alto headquarters in 2005. Both of those achievements are currently in the background as a segment of a 2014 podcast has resurfaced in which Choe describes sexually violating a masseuse at a massage parlor.

In the episode of the DVDASA podcast, which he used to co-host with adult film star Asa Akira, Choe recounts forcing a masseuse named Rose to perform oral sex on him after he began masturbating during the massage. Between laughs, Akira called him out immediately and said that he was a rapist after Choe stated that it was the thrill of possibly going to jail that aroused him, to which he responded, Yeah, a successful rapist.

Days after the segment went live, Choe wrote a statement defending himself on the podcasts webpage on April 18, 2014 in which he alleges that the story he told was totally fake. I never thought Id wake up one late afternoon and hear myself called a rapist, Choe wrote. Choe went on to say that the podcast is not a representation of [his] reality and called it art that sometimes offends people, commenting that all rapists should be raped and murdered. A Tension in Paint Befitting Our Times "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Shortly after I went to see the exhibition Maia Ruth Lee: The skin of the earth is seamless at Tina Kim Gallery (April 6May 6, 2023), the poet and translator Soje sent me this poem by the Korean poet Kim Eon Hee, which they had translated as:

Gapes open, its entire body a maw

Comes returned to sender
After being refused

Stuffed with a chopped-up memory wrapped in plastic, it

Reading the translation transported me back to Lees exhibition, which consists of paintings, sculptures, and a video, The Letter (2023). What connects these works is Lees experience of migration, living in the diaspora, rootlessness, and traveling between the three cultures in which she has lived for extended periods: South Korea, where she was born and went to art school, a small Sherpa village in the Himalayas, where she spent her childhood and adolescence, and different parts of the Un...

Artist Uses AI to Visualize a Clear Guitar Embedded With Flowers and People Want It IRL

AI-Generated Guitar Image

AI-generated art is a controversial topic, but its undeniable that it can produce incredible imagery. Mieke Haase is a creative showcasing the possibilities of artificially generated art. Theyve generated a striking image of a clear guitar thats filled with colorful blooms. The glass-like surface features florals that look suspended in the clear material. Its reminiscent of resin art, although its completely forged with text prompts by Haase.

There are some AI-generated pieces that look like they could never exist in real life, but Haases art is something that could be real. It looks so real, in fact, that people in the comments of a viral Instagram post asked where they could buy it, not realizing it was the work of machine learning. Other folks knew it was AI but offered ways in which to craft it IRL. It would be playable, one commenter offered, if it were resin instead. You should make another out of resin! Id buy it.

Whatever your opinion of AI art might be, its undeniable that the images it conjures are imaginative and could be the starting point for something to exist in the real world. If Haases generated piece is any indication, it has inspired the people whose timeline it came across.

Artist Mieke Haase generated an AI art image of a clear guitar with flowers embedded inside. It became a viral post on Instagram with people wishing it was realand some not realizing it was the work of AI.

For all the art that addresses protest and activism, it is surprisingly rare to come across a work that is as succinct and conceptually together as Jordan Corine Cruzs Face Each Other, Burn Together. The object, installed at Haul Gallery, is a police barricade cast entirely of red wax with long wicks embedded at each end. As the wicks burn, the barricade structure slowly breaks down and falls apart. It is a simple yet powerful gesture against what the artist calls the language of enforcement.

What Researchers Long Thought Was an Agate Crystal Is Actually Dinosaur Egg Fossil

Agate crystals apparently grew inside a titanosaur egg. (Photo: Natural History Museum)

A beautiful pink and white agate crystal has sat in the archives of London's Natural History Museum since 1883. In 2018, a minerals curator named Robin Hansen selected the pretty stone to display at the institution. Several months later, Hansen encountered a similar agate, which a dealer informed him was in fact an agatized dinosaur egg. Realizing what he might have discovered, Hansen and museum staff have since confirmed the rock is in fact a dinosaur egg which has filled with agate crystal over the course of millions of years.

While I was looking around the show, a dealer showed me an agatized dinosaur egg, which was spherical, had a thin rind, and dark agate in the middle, Hansen said in a statement. That was the lightbulb moment when I thought: Hang on a minute, that looks a lot like the one we've just put on display in the Museum!' Museum paleontologists Professor Paul Barrett and Dr. Susannah Maidment took a look. They noted that the rock had an external texture that resembled that of a dinosaur egg. It was also the size (15 cm / 5.9 inches across) and spherical shape of a titanosaur egg. Titanosaurs were a group of four-legged, long-necked dinosaurs who roamed across the world in the Cretaceous period.

Further tests with CT scans were unhelpful due to the dense rock material. However, pressed into the surface are marks indicating the object lay nex...

Why Dirty Harry is Still Relevant Today "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Image result for Dirty Harry

Once I had a girlfriend ask me why so many men identified with Clint Eastwoods character Dirty Harry. With Soros funded district attorneys all over the country allowing violent criminals and even murderers to walk the streets without paying bail and with minimal sentences, is it hard to guess why? With the rights of the offender taking precedence over the victims, it would be easy to see how outraged citizens would find a law enforcer like Inspector Callahan to be a refreshing change over the defunded and hesitant police departments of today. Paid rioters are allowed to burn down cities as police are ordered by mayoral offices to stand down. What kind of insanity is this?

Image result for Dirty Harry

Easing up on the criminal

The Dirty Harry series of movies came at a time in the early 70s when west coast police departments under the faulty idea that violent criminals came from unfair environments so they should be shown more mercy by the courts at the expense of the victims had been a new trend. As a result there were many violent and deadly crimes committed that went unpunished as victims lay dead or wounded in the wake of crime sprees that sprang up no longer deterred by the fear of penalty by the law. The new liberal district attorney offices managed to remove the death penalty under the flawed reasoning that death row did little to deter murderers. History will tell us they were wrong.

Image result for Dirty Harry

The enforcer

Eastwood plays Dirty Harry, a police inspector who is sick of watching the guilty walk and the innocent getting raped, murdered, and robbed by thugs unafraid of the new liberal mandated lesser crime penalties. At time, hes forced to take matters into his own hands and he does so with the kind of savage gun efficiency used by the out of control criminals. Of course he faces the backlash of the leftist media who back the weak and cowardly police departments forced to cow tow to the new rationale of those insulated from crime and dont care about the people who are victimized by it. Does this sound like whats happening today? Compared to the 70s as groups of paid agitators paid by Democrat donors attack the police and some cases as in Seattle even capture overwhelmed police substations. People of the 70s would not be able to believe that America has descended into the depths of hell as we are now. Cities like Chicago and New York are cesspools of lawlessness and gang violence, but even mor...

Here Are The Things Adults Think All Teenagers Should Know "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Listen, as adults, we all know that teenagers dont actually care what we have to say. When we were teenagers, we didnt care what the grownups around us had to say, either, because they didnt understand us or our lives thankyouverymuch.

On the other side of it, you realize that even though things in the world have changed quite a lot, the fact is that people have changed very little which means theres plenty of advice that still sticks.

So, if youre willing to hear it, these pieces of advice could belong in your back pocket.

Learn new skills.

If you dont have a passion, learn new skills. You might find your passion or something youre good at.

Its a whole sentence.

Its ok to say no to anyone.

Dont let anyone in your life guilt trip you into doing something you dont want to do or are uncomfortable with

Just indifferent.

When you get to driving you need to realize that the laws of physics apply to you. They arent out to get you, theyre just indifferent.

Slow the f**k down and dont horse around, youre driving a very heavy machine at speeds we did not evolve to deal with. Be safe.

Exactly as lame.

Its exactly as lame to not do something you want to do because its too mainstream or popular as it is to do something only because its cool and the cool kids are doing it.

Start the work now.

Dont put off dealing with mental health issues. Developing unhealthy coping mechanisms for emotional issues will fuck you up big time down the road....

Bitcoin Stamps Are Attracting Collectors And Creators With Blockchain Permanence "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Bitcoin Stamps seek to offer greater permanence and security on the blockchain, attracting collectors and creators.

Bitcoin Stamps are the latest innovation in the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), offering collectors and creators a secure and reliable means of storing unique digital assets on bitcoin, like Ordinals. According to creator Mike In Space, stamps guarantee greater permanence than other protocols as they are stored directly in the spendable transaction outputs of the blockchain, making them impossible to prune.

In just 32 days since the launch of the first Stamp, 16,500 Stamps had been created on the Bitcoin blockchain, outpacing the daily growth of assets created compared to Ordinals.

The Rare Stamp platform, launched on April 6, 2023, indexes all Stamp data such as prices, last sales and other relevant data. The platform has witnessed the growing interest in Bitcoin NFTs and the rapid expansion of Stamps, receiving over 20,000 visits from users interested in discovering, buying and selling Stamps according to a press release shared with Bitcoin Magazine.

"We are excited to bring visibility to this innovation that allows for the creation of virtually eternal NFTs on the Bitcoin blockchain. The rapid adoption of Stamps shows the growing interest in NFTs and the demand for more permanent and secure solutions," said Angel Haro, CMO of Universelle, the Spanish consulting firm that developed the Rare Stamp platform.

Bitcoin Stamps seeks to offer a secure and reliable means of storing unique digital assets on the blockchain, according to the press release. With the growing interest in Bitcoin-based digital assets and the demand for more permanent and secure solutions, the Rare Stamp platform aims to provide detailed information on sale prices, new collections and other unique features.

Figures Flow Along Swirling Streams of Color in Samantha Keely Smiths Vibrant Abstract Landscapes "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

An abstract painting with a fuzzy figure of a young boy or man toward the bottom in a swirl of color.

Calling Out Across the Distance (2023), oil on canvas, 60 x 68 inches. All images Samantha Keely Smith, shared with permission

In vibrant oil paintings evocative of roiling oceans or atmospheric vistas, Samantha Keely Smith relies on confident, swift strokes to guide the composition. Hovering between abstraction and depictions of landscapes (previously), tonal contrasts and complementary colors emphasize dramatic movements suggestive of crashing waves or storms. All of my work explores the idea that the line between our conscious and unconscious (experiences) is often blurry and that occasionally we are able the straddle both sides at once, she tells Colossal.

Smiths recent work has evolved into a looser, more freeform style that has taught her the value of experimentation or going with the flow. Most importantly, I have given myself permission to completely fail occasionally and not feel bad about it, she says. I will sometimes pull a canvas off the stretcher and throw it away. In the past, I would fight to the bitter end to try to save something that just wasnt working, which was ultimately a waste of my time and effort.

U.S. Credit Crunch Has Started "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

A chief strategist of the Wall Street bank, Morgan Stanley has pointed to a big drop in lending amid tightening standards,  meaning the credit crunch in the United States has started. Mike Wilson claimed that the banking crisis, which started with the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), has led to a tightening of lending standards.

Wilsons warning comes over a month after massive deposit runs caused two lending banks, Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank, to fail within days. A third lender, First Republic, ended up being the recipient of a $30-billion rescue from top Wall Street banks in the form of deposits. The big players stepped in over investor fears that First Republic would become the next institution to fail.

According to a report by RT, in a note seen by Business Insider, Wilson said that lending levels have seen the steepest decline on record over the past two weeks. He attributes the drop to US banks attempts to offset the breakneck pace of deposit flight in the month since the collapse of SVB.

The data suggest a credit crunch has started, the analyst said in a Sunday note, noting that $1 trillion in deposits has been withdrawn from U.S. lenders since the Federal Reserve began its series of rate hikes nearly a year ago.

To those investors cheering the softer-than-expected inflation data last week, we would say be careful what you wish for, Wilson warned, pointing to the March Consumer Price Index report that revealed the inflation rate has been climbing less than projected. If/when revenues begin to disappoint, that margin degradation can be much more sudden, and thats when the market can suddenly get in front of the earnings decline we are forecasting.

Will the End of the Petrodollar End the US Empire?

No, the Financial Crisis Is Not Over

More economists are warning about the state of the U.S. economy, including analysts like Greg Mannarino, who understand that the central bank digital currency (CBDC) is the endgame. The rulers of the country already understand that a complete and total collapse of the current economic system has to occur before the masters can convince the slave class to permanently be controlled under the new digital system.

New Harry Potter TV Series Ordered at Max Will Adapt One Book per Season

When a book is adapted into a movie, a lot of the world-building is left in the cutting room due to a limited runtime. In an epic fantasy series like Harry Potter, the time constraints and plot choices meant that a lot the elements that made the Wizarding World so appealing in its books were left out of the films. Could a different format make room for a new way to tell the story? A new project at Max is looking into turning the Harry Potter saga into a decade-long TV series, dedicating one season to each of the seven books.

We are delighted to give audiences the opportunity to discover Hogwarts in a whole new way, said Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content. He described the endeavor, which will feature a completely new cast, as a faithful adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter book series. This new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years.

The announcement was met with mixed reactions. While some appreciated a chance to see the book lore expanded, the general response among the Harry Potter fandom was cold, to say the least. We don't need [a] Harry Potter reboot, said one Twitter user praising the original stars of the films. Others added, Literally no one asked for this. Another person critiqued Bloys' own words, saying, Faithful'? Because the beloved, wildly successful and fan-adored movies weren't? To many fans, the films still feel pretty recent, as the last movie of the franchise, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,...

Rain water re-mineralization "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

Hi All,
I hope you are doing well in these strange times.
I have a question re re-mineralization of water.
From what I see rainwater is closer to distilled what makes it more acidic what apparently is not good comparing to loaded with chlorine, fluoride and other minerals (some desirable some not) mains water.
I collect rainwater to IBC to black tanks (to prevent algae buildup) and drink it with minimal filtering. Just initial debris filtration then carbon filter like Berkeley but DIY...

The Hidden Injuries of Oppression "IndyWatch Feed Health"

With each passing day, we witness how so many individuals are subjected to unexpected upheaval, irreversible damage, devastating loss, injury, and death. The uprooting of peoples lives caused by these events and their substantial adverse impacts give rise to a range of trauma-related physical and psychological consequences for direct victims as well as for those related to them. In many instances, even those witnessing these tragedies experience physical, psychological, social, and spiritual distress.

As a rule, mainstream psychiatry and psychology situate the causes of these problems within the individuals impacted. Then subsequent treatment focuses solely on this level. However, there is a far more powerful force at work behind these harmful events. Omission of the role played by this cause is not due to ignorance or simple misunderstanding. Rather, its impact is intentionally obfuscated and denied by psychiatrists and psychologists who perpetuate a restrictive view of the nature of human suffering in which those afflicted are abstracted from the larger contexts they are inextricably embedded in. In doing so, they not only benefit from this neglect, but actually contribute even further to suffering they profess to seek to alleviate. That missing cause is systemic oppression.

Black and white photo of a man looking sad with his fingers clinging to a chain-link fenceIn my book, Embracing Disillusionment: Promoting Liberation through the Demystification of Suffering, I detail a rationale for the argument that oppression is the single greatest factor contributing to human suffering. To understand the impact of oppression, consider how the prolonged dependency of human infants results in their exceptional vulnerability to inadequacies and adverse influences in the social environment into which they are born and raised. Research conducted on the persistent negative consequences of adverse childhood experiences strongly supports this. For...

Putins Russia is headed for a military dictatorship and total collapse "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The last vestiges of democracy in Russia are burning in the fields of the Donbas. Young men are being sent to the slaughter, their post-war tanks proving no match for modern Western kit or the motivation of Ukrainian soldiers defending their homes. Putin knows his only hope of victory and of prolonging his tenure as the last great Tsar is the total militarisation of Russia. This is an outcome that suits him well.

The Experience of Deafness in a Hearing World "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

LOS ANGELES Between 2011 and 2013, thieves committed a rash of burglaries at 12 high schools in the Los Angeles region, stealing tubas from band rooms across the southland. This curious anecdote provides the title for artist Alison ODaniels recent film The Tuba Thieves. Although it features re-enactments of the thefts, the film does not focus solely on the incidents; instead, it weaves these scenes together with other loosely related narratives into a patchwork dealing with loss, grief, communication, community, challenging shifts in perspective, and the different ways we experience the world through sound, vision, and touch.

When she was three, ODaniel was diagnosed with 60% binaural hearing loss and identifies as d/Deaf (the lowercase d representing the physical condition of deafness, and the uppercase D denoting cultural deafness or a connection to the Deaf community). She uses hearing aids but grew up in a hearing family and only learned American Sign Language (ASL) as an adult. Although she can pass as a hearing person you might not realize she is deaf by looking at or talking to her she still faces everyday challenges that hearing people might take for granted.

Theres just always a messiness in my life thats from catching up, compensating, trying to figure things out The relentlessness of ableism, its constant on literally a daily basis, she told Hyperallergic. When Im missing things in conversations and filling in gaps, its super exhausting.

ODaniel says she had two goals when she began making the film a decade ago. One was to recreate this sense of perceptual instability and compensation...

Spanish Athlete Emerges From Cave After 500 Days of Living Underground "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Spanish Athlete Emerges From Cave After 500 Days of Living Underground

Most people who emerge from caves these days are either enthusiastic spelunkers or people in need of rescue. However, one Spanish extreme athlete purposely chose to descend below the earth and remain in a cave all alone, cut off from the world, in the name of scientific research. After 500 days underground, 50-year-old Beatriz Flamini emerged on Friday, April 14, 2023, back into the light. Her long stay in the cave was a remarkable feat and has generated interesting data and opportunities for research on what such extended isolation can do to the human body and mind.

When Flamini chose to go into the cave on Saturday, November 20, 2021, she was well prepared with a support team in place. At the time of her descent into the 230-foot-deep cave near Granada, the world was a very different place. Her native Spain still had a mask mandate due to COVID-19. Queen Elizabeth II still sat on the throne of England. Roe v. Wade was still law of the land in the United States. Russia had not yet re-escalated the war in the Ukraine. Former President Trump had not yet been indicted. However, as all these things happened, Flamini learned nothing of it. She had given strict instructions to her team to not communicate, even in the case of a family death. If its no communication its no communication regardless of the circumstances. The people who know me knew and respected that, she told NBC.

She took two GoPro cameras down into the cave to record herself. Psychologists, researchers, cave specialists, and physical trainers examined how isolation and spatial disorientation affected her notions of time, her brain patterns, and her sleep. Supplies were lowered down, waste removed in reverse. Flamini reports going through 60 books and 220 gallons of water during that time. On day 65, I stopped counting and lost perception of time, she noted. There were emotional times, but she remained focused on coherence and the treats of avocados and fresh eggs lowered down. Surprisingly, she reports she did not talk to herself out loud, but rather...

Teenager Wonders If He Broke The Rules Of Blended Families By Trying To Remember His Mother "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Weve seen proof on Reddit (and in the real world) of how hard it is to successfully blend families with children. That is true, I think, whether a family of origin broke up due to death or divorce, although each scenario can present its own issues.

OP lost his mother when he was 9 and gained a stepmother and stepsister in addition to his two younger biological siblings two years later, at 11. His father and stepmother have had two much-younger children of their own at this point.

My mom and dad had me (17m), my sister (14f) and brother (13m) together. Mom died 8 years ago.

Dad remarried 6 years ago and it was not easy for the three of us. Dads wife, Rose, has a daughter whos like 11 now.

They also have a 4 and 2 year old together.

After their father remarried, his younger siblings were still grieving their mother and so was he. In order to help keep her memory alive, or for them to have something to remember at all, he bought a scrapbook and they started saving photos and stories and memories of their mother.

About a week after their wedding, my siblings snuck into my room in the middle of the night, sad about dad being married and the changes that had happened. They asked if I felt like mom really gone now and I said yeah.

I asked them if theyd like for us to have something just for us, no new family involved, where we could remember mom and talk about that stuff. They said yes.

So I raised the money to buy a pretty nice scrapbook and about once a month my siblings would sneak into my room at night and wed put photos in and write memories we had and Id share the stories I remembered of mom, since as the oldest I remembered her best and remembered the stories about her Id heard.

Get Ready for Mining IronFish (IRON) In Time for the Mainnet Launch "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

IronFish (IRON) is a new privacy-oriented Layer-1 Proof-of-Work crypto project that is launching its mainnet tomorrow on April 20th 2023 and that is when the actual mining of the IRON coins will start. IronFish has been in development for a while now and has been running an incentivized testnet for quite some time in order to make sure that at launch everything will be operating properly and everyone will be ready to start mining and using IRON. Every single IronFish transaction is encrypted, hiding sensitive user information on who the sender, recipient, or the amount of transaction was with an accompanying zero-knowledge proof (zk-SNARKs).

The IronFish genesis block will include 42M tokens that will be distributed to insiders, foundation, and community members and to incentivise testnet participants. So, do have in mind that there will be high initial number of coins generated even before mining actually starts, though these will be a 1-year lock-up period for most of these coins, meaning that no tokens can be traded or transferred by an insider for 12 months after the mainnet event. The mining will start with 20 IRON coins per block and a 60 second block time with the block reward going down a little by little every year (not halving every year!).

Now, let us get onto mining IronFish (IRON) coins. Due to the incentivized testnet there are already some pools and mining software available that support the Blake3-based IronFish mining algorithm...

The event is set to introduce gamers from around the world to the bitcoin-rewards side of gaming.

ZEBEDEE, a Bitcoin-powered payments processor for the gaming industry, in partnership with Guilds, a new skill-based wagering platform, is set to host Bitcoin Games Day, a gaming event with hundreds of USD worth of bitcoin prizes. The day-long event will be held on April 22, with gamers around the world competing. The event will include boosted rewards intended to invite the next slew of gamers into the rewarded gaming universe, the press release states.

"Running a worldwide promotional event alongside a partner such as ZEBEDEE that has years of experience in rewarded gaming gives us a great opportunity to demonstrate the superiority of our business model for multiplayer PvP gaming in front of a wide audience," said Kabir Hemrajani, CEO and co-founder at Guilds. "With Hellfire Arena, our first game, players can enjoy an ad-free PvP experience and put their skills to work to earn real money, all within one global monetary network built around Bitcoin."

The event will be sponsored by ZEBEDEE, Guilds, Dubbz, THNDR Games, Geyser and several other Bitcoin gaming studios, developers and startups that want to bring Bitcoin rewarded gaming closer to the masses all over the world. The event will offer double rewards in games from its most high-profile partners, including Bitcoin Miner by Fumb, Braindoku by Murka and Coin Mahjong by Bear Hug Entertainment, as well as in its own SaruTobi and Lightning Crush mobile games.

"For many people, Bitcoin games have been their first contact with the global digital economy. With our tech and products that merge gaming and finance, we've been making that passage smooth, easy and, most of all, fun." said Ben Cousens, chief strategy officer at ZEBEDEE. "Now, after all this time, we feel it's time to throw a party to commemorate how far rewarded gaming with Bitcoin has come and look down the wide road towards its almost endless possibilities."

Gamers can register on the Hellfire Arena app to secure their welcome bonus of 1,000 sats and start practicing in daily tournaments leading up to Bitcoin Games Day. Games by other ZEBEDEE partners are also already available and discoverable within the ZEBEDEE app and require no upfront payment or entry fees to start playing. Keynesian Economist Paul Krugman Says There Is No Risk To The Dollars Dominance "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

Infamous Keynesian economist Paul Krugman, who adores government control and the enslavement of mankind through the monetary system, says not to worry. Theres no risk to the dollar unless the United States defaults on its loans.

So whats the solution? The same one all Keynsians have: break more windows, cause more harm, interfere more, and definitely create more fiat currency out of thin air so the ruling class doesnt have to stop spending money.

In an op-ed for the New York Times on Friday, Krugman pointed to growing fears that the dominance of the dollar could soon be challenged by rival currencies, such as Chinas yuan, as the nation rises as a competing economic superpower.

Krugman claims there are three reasons why the greenbacks place as the worlds reserve currency is secure:

  1. The dollar has incumbency on its side and is already a widely held reserve currency that was involved in 90% of all global transactions over the past decade, according to an estimate from the Bank of International Settlements. That means there would need to be exceptional circumstances for the dollar to be replaced as one of the worlds top currencies, Krugman said.

  2. US Financial markets are open, though Chinas yuan is often restricted by the nations tight capital controls. In practice, that makes the dollar more liquid than the yuan, and therefore more desired.

  3. The US legal system offers more protection for holders of the dollar, Krugman said. Unless youre a dictator planning to commit major war crimes, you neednt fear that the US government will impound your asse...

New Film Follows Endangered Rhinos and Explores How Technology Can Bring the Species Back "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

New Film Follows Endangered Rhinos and Explores How Technology Can Bring the Species Back

Sudan, Northern White Rhino, with his keeper prior to his death

Five years ago, the last male northern white rhinoSudanpassed away. With his death, the fate of the species seemed sealed. There are only two females still living, so how could the endangered species possibly find a way to survive? The answer may be technology. Thanks to the work of a consortium of scientists known as BioRescue, there is still hope that the northern white rhino can make a comeback. Using in-vitro fertilization and stem-cell science, BioRescue has created 24 viable embryos using the eggs of the last two females alive and the frozen sperm of deceased male northern white rhinos.

Acclaimed photographer and filmmaker Ami Vitale has been following the story closely, starting with the day in 2009 that Sudan made his way from a zoo in the Czech Republic back to Kenya. She was also there for his last breath, with her photographs bringing international attention to this wildlife crisis. Since 2018, when Sudan passed, she's been actively working with BioRescue to make a miracle happen.

In her new short film, Remembering Sudan, Vitale traces the plight of the northern white rhino. Using the voice of the people who know the rhinos besttheir caretakersit's an incredible look at loss and hope. The film highlights the work of Zacharia Mutai, a keeper at northern Kenya's Ol Pejeta Conservancy, where Sudan lived. Mutai shares his connections to these animals and his memories of Sudan. As head rhino keeper, he has an intimate bond with these animals and gave comfort to Sudan in his last moments.

Now, he's also a witness to a new possibility for the species thanks to advanced technology. Vitale's film pushes us to mourn the loss of these animals, while also allowing us to marvel at the innovations that could give them a chance to survive. If BioRescue is able to successfully implant the embryos in female southern white rhinos, who will act as surrogates, it could change what we know about extinction. And it could mean a different fate for the more than 14,000 endangered species on our planet today.

Remembering Sud...

Going Roth Mode "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

Newark Public Library, Main Branch. Photo by Jim Henderson, public domain, via Wikimedia Commons.

Im not even necessarily the biggest Roth guy. When I got asked to cover Philip Roth Unbound, a festival to celebrate and agitate his legacy, I hadnt read but a handful of his books. But, looking over the press release, I was drawn to how intense the schedule was set up to be: three full days of panels, live readings, and comedy shows, all in his hometown of Newark. Roth compared novel-writing to the tedium of baseball, and there was something athletic about how these events were stacked up, one after another, jam-packed with renowned writers and themes encompassing the breadth of Roths vision. Id view this like a marathon, one that Id need to read the rest of his books to prepare for. Id read maybe six. He wrote thirty-one. We were a month out. Plenty of time, I decided.

Having read Roths debut, as well as Portnoys Complaint and the Zuckerman novels through Counterlife, I figured Id pick up where I left off. I was most drawn to the stretch of novels he wrote in the nineties, when, at fifty, after the death of his father and the failure of his marriage, he self-exiled and became a monk of fiction, as David Remnick put it in a 2018 profile. Living alone in the woods, he wrote, Roth stayed trained on the sentence, the page, the problem of the novel at hand. This decade produced the novels that would sweep a huge number of major literary awardsa National Book Critics Circle award, a PEN/Faulkner, a Pulitzer, his second National Book Award. Wanting to absorb the fruits of his exile, I exiled myself and, starting with Patrimonyabout his father dying, published in 1991, the year I was borngot to reading methodically forward.

I felt awed, in places, by these books ambition; impatient, in others, with their unbridled maximalism. Their willingness to meander, to dwell in dialogue, read like luxuries novelists arent afforded today. Theres a consistent emphasis on race and class in these books, on the challenges of coexisting in America, that surprised me. Reckoning with ones roots yet r...
