Modern Terrarium Simulates Different Climates to Allow Any Plant to Thrive Indoors "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Modern Terrarium Simulates Different Climates to Allow Any Plant to Thrive Indoors

The Biorb air 60 terrarium

In every plant parent's life, there comes a time when they feel a little adventurous. Once they've mastered common houseplants and succulents, they want something a little more colorful, or maybe something exotic for a challenge. But not everyone can replicate the tropical and humid conditions some flora demand at home. Luckily, there are modern hi-tech terrariums that can work wonders and be aesthetically pleasing at the same time.

The AIR 60 Terrarium by biOrb is a stylish spherical terrarium with a capacity of 16 gallons. It can turn your favorite plants into a decorative piece that matches any room, all while providing the ideal conditions any plant needs to survive. Instead of regular glass, this terrarium is made of acrylic, which is 10 times stronger, 50% lighter, and has a 93% transparency rating.

Unlike an old-fashioned terrarium, which is basically just a fish bowl, AIR 60 can replicate the conditions found in tropical climates. It comes equipped with auto lighting, humidity, and airflow systems to simulate the temperatures and humidity the plant would find in its native environment outdoors. There are six LED lights at the top within the dome that work on a 24-hour cycle, imitating day and night, to encourage natural growth.

In addition to the AIR 60, biOrb has an 8-gallon terrarium aptly called AIR 30. It may be half the size, but its just as effective. It can also simulate three climate settings to fit your plants needs: tropical for plants that require high humidity, semi-arid for cacti and succulents, and medium for temperate plants. To prevent them from growing and bending towards just one light source, the top cover houses an array of LED lights that you can program for 8-hour, 10-hour, 12-hour, or 14-hour light cycles.

Whether you consider yourself a green thumb or a plant newbie, these terrariums can help make sure your plants thrive within the micro habitat. They can sense when the humidity drops and gently adjust the air within the sphere using advanced misting and fan settings.

One of the biggest known issues with regular terrariums is that they beco...

Support two important vaccine bills in Alabama! "IndyWatch Feed Food"

Speak up for two good bills in the Alabama legislature that would protect parents and visitors of healthcare facilities.

HB 187 changes the law to require parental consent for unemancipated minors to be administered a vaccine.  Current state law Section 22-8-4 allows any minor who is 14 years of age or older to consent to any legally authorized medical services without parental consent. HB187 passed out of the House Health Committee on 4/5/2023 and is up for a vote in the House.

HB 3 and its identical companion bill SB 2 require healthcare facilities to adopt visitation policies that prohibit vaccination requirements for visitors.

HB3 was introduced and referred to the House Health Committee on 3/9/2023. SB2 passed the Senate Healthcare Committee on 3/9/2023 and is awaiting vote in the Senate.

Every parent has the right to make medical decisions for their minor children and every person has the right to bodily autonomy especially when science clearly demonstrates that unvaccinated people do not pose a risk to others.

Please speak up!  We need YOUR voice to help pass bills HB 187 and HB 3/SB 2 today!

In Theatrical Murals and Dioramas by Aryz, Dramatic Scenarios Unfold in Vivid Color "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

A large-scale, diorama-like painting of lions and circus performers inside of a church.

La Causa (2020), Saint-Merri Church, Paris, France. All images Aryz

In vibrant blocks of color, Catalan artist Aryz creates multistory murals and diorama-like artworks that radiate within their surroundings. Known for his saturated chromatic installations (previously) that fill the sides of apartment blocks or stand as panels in grand interiors, the artist emphasizes an outsized sketchy style as if the pigment were applied with giant crayons or pastels.

Aryz often reveals a grid-like structure redolent of paintings underdrawings, but rather than cover the structure, he creates distinct compartments containing a variety of textural and compositional elements. While much of his work emphasizes a flat two-dimensional plane, murals like El Entreacto expand the grid and incorporate three-dimensional depth with shadows and cartoonish details that glitch or cut off.

Often featuring figures in early 20th-century garments, Aryzs dramatic scenes involve lions and circus performers, airplanes, or injured figures, evoking associations with early cinema and the First and Second World Wars. The murals locations provide incredible backdrops for the artists theatrical interior scenes, nodding to the rich history of crumbling old chapels or cavernous sites like Saint-Merri Church in Paris that have been damaged and reconstructed over many centuries.

Find more on his website, and see videos of his process on Instagram. (via Booooooom)

A Better World Through Financial Freedom: Why Preston Pysh Is Bullish On Bitcoin 2023 "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

For Preston Pysh, the Bitcoin 2023 event in Miami is a chance to showcase a solution for the crumbling global financial system.

As part of an investment-focused podcast that recently surpassed 100 million downloads, Preston Pysh describes the basics of Bitcoin and explores its investment case, distilling some of the most prescient aspects of the technology for listeners who might not realize how important it is. He has a knack for hosting the most knowledgeable guests to break down the most pressing topics.

For instance, Pysh has released recent episodes describing Texas evolving Bitcoin mining policy with Pierre Rochard, one exploring the state of the legacy financial system with Alf Peccatiello and one explaining decentralized social media platform Nostr with developer William Casarin.

Pysh consistently hosts timely, in-depth conversations with insightful guests, producing one of the best outlets for exploring how Bitcoin is changing our world. Now, hell be bringing that insight to the stage at Bitcoin 2023, where his combination of traditional investment expertise and holistic understanding of Bitcoins implications will grapple with a global financial environment that seems to be spinning out of control.

I suspect one of the hot topics that will be discussed is the central banks inability to get inflation under control and what that means for Bitcoin, Pysh said in an interview with Bitcoin Magazine. It seems like OPEC+ and BRICS nations are trying to exercise their control of energy production and distribution in the face of western central bank policies that attempt to control interest rates and sanctions. I expect this situation to get really intense in the second and third quarters of 2023 and the knock-on effect is going to demonstrate the lack of control that policymakers have over the price of fiat currency.

While such a precarious economic situation is wreaking havoc in the form of wealth debasement and uncertainty across the world, Pysh remains optimistic about bitcoin the asset as a solution and bullish about its path for 2023.

Bitcoins long-term HODLers display a level of conviction Ive rarely witnessed in any other asset c...

Artist Constructs Portraits of Famous Faces by Stacking Thousands of Books "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Artist Constructs Portraits of Famous Faces by Stacking Thousands of Books

Book Art by Jordi Prat Pons

There are many different methods to organizing your library. While some people prefer to sort books by title or author's name, others find enjoyment in arranging covers by their color. Well, artist Jordi Prat Pons takes this approach to another level by constructing massive portraits of famous faces, including one of Vincent van Gogh with the well-placed spines of 2,400 books.

Pons has been creating collage art for over 30 years, finding particular inspiration in working with paper and books. Many of his materials are donated by his followers, while others he sources through donations and thrift stores. After receiving about 8,000 books, he began working on the Van Gogh portrait during the COVID-19 pandemic. Taking advantage of the lockdown, I started an installation paying homage to one of the greatest individuals in the world of art, Vincent van Gogh, he tells My Modern Met. Vincent was writing all his life letters to his brother Theo and years later a book was published titled Letters to Theo. I would like to thank Vincent for everything he has given to the world of art and what he has given to the world in general. I wanted to send him some letters to thank him for everything.

Pons neatly stacked dark-colored books, ranging from black to burgundy to blue, to render the darkened background. Most of these texts are placed in horizontal piles, but occasionally, he has to account for the mismatched sizing by placing books vertically. These moody colors frame the portrait of Van Gogh himself, which Pons creates with a palette of pale yellows, reds, and whites. As a result of his careful placement, the image looks remarkably similar to the Dutch Post-Impressionist from afar. Pons has even made a picture of Martin Luther King Jr. and a c...

A State of Never-Ending Crisis: The Government Is Fomenting Mass Hysteria "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

This country has been having a nationwide nervous breakdown since 9/11. A nation of people suddenly broke, the market economy goes to shit, and theyre threatened on every side by an unknown, sinister enemy. But I dont think fear is a very effective way of dealing with thingsof responding to reality. Fear is just another word for ignorance. Hunter S. Thompson, gonzo journalist

We have become guinea pigs in a ruthlessly calculated, carefully orchestrated, chillingly cold-blooded experiment in how to control a population and advance a political agenda without much opposition from the citizenry.

This is mind-control in its most sinister form. With alarming regularity, the nation is being subjected to a spate of violence that terrorizes the public, destabilizes the country, and gives the government greater justifications to crack down, lock down, and institute even more authoritarian policies for the so-called sake of national security without many objections from the citizenry. Take this latest shooting in Nashville, Tenn. The 28-year-old shooter (a clearly troubled transgender individual in possession of several military-style weapons) opened fire in a Christian elementary school, killing three children and three adults. Already, fingers are being pointed and battle lines are being drawn. Those who want safety at all costs are clamoring for more gun control measures (if not at an outright ban on assault weapons for non-military, non-police personnel), widespread mental health screening of the general population, more threat assessments and behaviora...

Dont Give Up Now! Trust The Divine Plan! "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Consciousness and Oneness break power of Deep State When people wake up and realise that the purpose of life is different from the government policies applied, such as tax increases, among others, it can be established that this measure has never had any positive effect!   The fight for the liberation of planet earth and humanity, will soon come to an end. Dont give up now but continue with augmented energy. We already have the sight of the harbour, it is now just a matter of sailing safely in, to enter a world of prosperity, abundance and unlimited love. Remember; Freedom, abundance and prosperity is the reward.   The truly awake are now wondering if they are eligible for ascension to the new 5D world? It is expected that at least a third of the worlds population will be able to pass the final 5D exam. Basically, all currently incarnated people have the chance to take part in the 5D exam. Top marks to pass are not required, even the mediocre have a good chance of passing. However, the prerequisite is honesty, sincerity; being open to others and unconditional love for people, animals and nature.   Be happy with your common sense and life, forget the corrupt government as it will soon be removed. Some say money makes you happy, but money only buys material things.   Happiness and real wealth comes from within by e.g. making real things and providing services, which are opposed to debt. This needs no further explanation.   Behind the scenes, the house of cards of the oppressors is crumbling. As a result, more and more of us see the strings the puppets are tying their conductors. These are the supposedly elected politicians; the people now observe how the puppeteers direct and set them, they are no longer hidden in the shadows as before.   ...

Take It Easy, Man: The Philosophies Behind Bitcoin And The Big Lebowski "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Dudeism, a philosophy inspired by The Big Lebowski, shares some core tenants that should intrigue Bitcoiners.

This is an opinion editorial by Hongumart, a frontline healthcare worker.

Inspired by The Dude, the main character of the 1998 movie The Big Lebowski by the Coen Brothers, Dudeism is a way of life, philosophy and religion. The main goal of Dudeism is to apply "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taoism">Taoism, an ancient Chinese teaching attributed to Laozi (rising to prominence in the 6th century), combined with ideas from the Greek thinker Epicurus (who lived form 341 to 270 BC), in a manner that reflects the personality of Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski from the film.

Dudeism emphasized the practices of relaxing, keeping calm and taking it easy when faced with life's challenges, guided by a belief that this is the best way to live in harmony with ourselves and others.

Bitcoin is a digital currency that operates on a peer-to-peer network without relying on any intermediary or authority. It was created by an unknown person or group that used the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto in 2009. The main idea behind Bitcoin is to enable online payments that are direct, secure and independent of any financial institution. Bitcoin is the most popular and widely-used cryptocurrency in the world. It has inspired many other cryptocurrencies that offer different features or use cases. Bitcoin's value and adoption have fluctuated over time, depending on various factors such as regulation, innovation, competition and market sentiment.

Bitcoin and Dudeism are two seemingly unrelated phenomena, but they share some surprising similarities:

  • Both are decentralized and operate peer to peer: Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency that operates without a central authority or intermediary, relying on a network of nodes to validate transactions and maintain consensus. Dudeism is a religion that rejects dogma and hierarchy, encouraging its followers to find their own paths and to live in harmony with themselves and others.
  • Both are inspired by cult movies: Bitcoin was created by an anonymous person or group using the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto, which, by my estimation, could be a reference to the character Toshiro Mifune in the film Yojimbo. As noted above, Dudeism is based on the philosophy of the protagonist of The Big Lebowski, who embodies the principles of Taoism and Zen Buddhism.
  • Both are adaptable and resilient: Bitcoin is designed...

The History of Ancient Japan: The Story of How Japan Began, Told by Those Who Witnessed It (297-1274) "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Here in the twenty-first century, many of us around the world think of Japan as essentially unchanging. We do so not without cause, given how much of what goes on there, including the operation of certain businesses, has been going on for centuries and centuries. But the political, cultural, religious, economic, and ethnic composition of the civilization weve long known as Japan has, in fact, transformed a great deal over the course of its existence. Some of the most dramatic changes occurred between the third and thirteenth centuries, the span of time covered by the video above.

How Japan Began comes from Voices of the Past, a Youtube channel previously featured here on Open Culture for its videos on a first-hand account of the destruction of Pompeii, an ancient Chinese historians description of the Roman Empire, and how the first Japanese visitor to the United States and Europe saw life there.

Humanity is about to wake from a long and terrible nightmare. An ancient Satanic cult that has terrorized us for millennia is facing final defeat. The Jewish people are planning to celebrate their release from Babylonian slavery by building a new temple. This time it is expected to last forever. A new Golden Age is about to dawn for humanity. That is the big picture behind recent news events. Now that the Satanists have been defeated in Ukraine, a final battle is about to take place to mop up the last major Satanist strongholds in Europe, the US and Asia, multiple sources agree. The biggest event in the war to liberate the planet last week was the French and British Rothschilds throwing the Rockefellers and their fake President Biden under the bus. This was the story behind the visit to China by French slave President Emmanuelle Macron and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. 14 Accused of Terrorism in Trial Over French Teacher's Beheading "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

More than two years after an Islamic extremist murdered and beheaded a French secondary school teacher in October 2020, French prosecutors sought to convict 14 suspects related to the crime. This incident shocked France and the world.

Authorities recommended charging two of the murder suspects friends with being complicit in a terrorist murder, the most severe accusation against the defendants.

Frances national terror crime prosecutors office has also recommended charging six adults and six children for alleged offenses connected to the killing of French secondary school teacher Samuel Paty in the Paris suburb of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine.

A history and geography teacher, 47-year-old Samuel Paty, was stabbed and decapitated on October 16, 2020, near his school by an 18-year-old Chechen refugee named Abdoullakh Anzorov.

The murder suspect was shot on the scene by French authorities during a confrontation. The crime occurred after Anzorov, unrelated to either Paty or the school he worked with, saw a video about the teacher showing a civics class cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad that were published by the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

During his ethics class, Paty used the magazine as lesson material when discussing free speech laws in France, which dont criminalize blasphemy.

The killing came as the country was still recovering from the wounds inflicted by a similar Islamist attack when two French Islamist terrorists attacked Charlie Hebdos office in Paris, killing some of the staff, including editors of the controversial newspaper.

Dalai Lama Faces Backlash Over Video Asking Child to Suck His Tongue "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The Dalai Lama sparked backlash after a video of him kissing a boy and asking him to suck my tongue at an event in Northern India went viral.

The religious leader issued an apology through a statement published by his office last Monday. In the statement, the Dalai Lama said he wishes to apologize to the boy and his family, as well as his many friends across the world, for the hurt his words may have caused, adding that he regrets what he did.

His Holiness often teases people he meets in an innocent and playful way, even in public and before cameras, the statement added.

The Dalai Lamas apology came after netizens criticized his actions when a video showing the exchange between the child and the Buddhist leader went viral.

The incident occurred during an event organized last February by the M3M Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Indian real estate company M3M Group, based in the hillside city of Dharamshala, where the Dalai Lama lives in permanent exile.

The viral video showed the young Indian boy approaching the 87-year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner before asking if he could hug him.

The Dalai Lama invited the boy to the stage, pointed to his cheek, and said, First here, prompting him to hug and kiss him.

Georgia Becomes First US State to Officially Condemn "Hinduphobia" "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Georgia made history as the first state in the US to take a legislative measure condemning Hinduphobia when the states General Assembly filed a resolution denouncing it.

The resolution comes as places in the United States, such as Seattle, Washington, made history by passing laws banning caste-based discrimination. California also plans to take similar action when state senator Aisha Wahab proposed a measure explicitly banning caste discrimination.

Republican state representatives Lauren McDonald and Todd Jones passed the resolution in the House of Representatives. They represent Forsyth County in the Atlanta suburbs, home to some of Georgia's biggest Hindu and Indian-American communities.

The resolution started by stating that Hinduism is one of the worlds biggest and oldest religions, with about 1.2 billion adherents, practiced in around 100 countries and composed of diverse traditions and beliefs with values of mutual respect, acceptance, and peace.

It also recognized the many contributions made by the Hindu and Indian-American community to the United States in various fields like medicine, science, engineering, business, IT, hospitality, finance, academia, energy, manufacturing, and retail, among many others.

Food delivery has been around for a few years now, and a good amount of people are making a decent side (or main) income bringing food from restaurants to people at home.

Did you know, though, that sometimes multiple restaurants are operating out of one kitchen and the name out front is likely one that you know?

People in the know refer to these as ghost kitchens, and define them as restaurants that have no physical presence of their own and are available for delivery only.

Dyed and Spliced Wooden Sculptures by Bayne Peterson Bulge and Ooze in Playful Shapes "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

A photo of a vibrant patterned sculpture carved from wood into supple geometric forms

As artist Bayne Peterson sketches the voluptuous and sinuous shapes of what will become his vibrant wooden sculptures, he takes cues from organic movement. Im thinking less, what does nature look like? and more, in a general sense, what would nature do?' he says. His geometric works echo both generative and reductive biological processes, bulging and surging in asymmetric forms that accentuate the relationship between negative and positive space.

Evoking growth, replication, and deterioration, Peterson references geometric principles when structuring his works. He begins with an initial drawing, cuts dyed and raw wood, and then splices the segments into checked patterns, stripes, and radial motifs. Each work undergoes a hefty round of sculpting with rough hand tools like rasps and files before the soft, supple curves emerge. My process (of) shaping and sanding feels very much like erosion, and I also think of my sculptures in relation to geology, with the layers of dyed wood being like layers of sediment, he shares, likening the lines to topographic maps.

The resulting sculptures contrast the vivid patterns with the natural grain of the raw material, and many are comprised of two larger forms stacked or slotted together. Because Peterson prefers irregular motifs and undulating forms, the works shift in perspective depending on the position of the viewer. One of the most fun parts of making sculptures for me is the challenge of making a static object seem animated, he say...

Well, people today arent cool with not being, well, cool and your child having the same name as four other kids on the playground is definitely lame.

That said, it seems as if some folks are just trying way too hard to make normal-sounding names sound different and edgy (or at least be spelled that way).

If you want to avoid both of these pitfalls when christening your little bundle of joy, here are 35 names that sound effortlessly cool.

Nurturing Genius in Children through Nature Connection "IndyWatch Feed Fertility"

One of the most important aspects of growing a human being is the establishment of a deep connection to Earth, helping children fall in love with their landscape. In recent decades, many children (and adults) have missed this opportunity by spending too much time inside four walls, in front of screens, away from a living, other-than-human environment. As a result, the bonding and the receptive intelligence needed to live with other than humans does not develop to the degree necessary to feel a sense of community with the landscape. Receptive intelligence includes a camaraderie and conviviality with the living, sentient members of Earths community.

Growing up inside walls or screens represents a poverty unknown to our ancestors. The extinction of experience (Robert Michael Pyles term),...

But recently, a family trip to Disney World started a backlash so severe, they not only had to delete the questionable clip, but they also had to create another one to apologize for their actions.

In the now deleted video, Ty and Haley outfitted their 3-year-old named Kannon in shoes padded enough to help him meet the height guidelines for motion simulator ride Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and the child-friendly Slinky Dog Dash roller coaster. If Kannon hadnt warn the padded shoes, he wouldnt have made the height requirements to get on these rides.

The Kellys did not expect the backlash and critical comments about how irresponsible they were after the video posted, and they subsequently deleted it from both their TikTok and Instagram accounts. Soon they posted another video where they addressed their actions and explained why they deleted the related content, but that video has now been deleted too.

TikToker Reveals Potato Peeler Hack to Make the Most Out of the Common Kitchen Tool

screenshot of tiktok showing how to use potato peeler

Potato peelers are common kitchen tools, and  its design appears to be pretty intuitive. All you have to do is slide the blade down the surface of a vegetable to gently get rid of its skin. Despite sounding like a really simple process with a very basic tool, it looks like many of us have been missing out on the real potential of these utensils. A TikToker named Jenni (jenniabs), known for posting about dinner recipes and kitchen tools, has shared a trick regarding potato peelers that will blow your mindand even save you some time in the kitchen.

In a video captioned, Kitchen tools 101, the cooking influencer asks viewers if theyve ever wondered why potato peelers swivel back and forth. It turns out theres functional reason for this. You can not only go down but forward when you're peeling so that you can peel the entire thing super fast without having to actually lift up the peeler off of the vegetable, she explains, as she swiftly peels an entire sweet potato in a matter of seconds.

Do you peel the old school way like this? Or do you you swivel back and forth? she asks her audience. The video has since gone viral, eliciting funny and amazed comments. I've always gotten mad 'cause I thought mine was just always loose, wrote one follower. Another said, This is why we need cooking classes in high school! Others pointed out that the swivel feature also makes it accessible for both right and left-handed people.

Nothing really prepares one for the experience of entering the Huckleberry Explorers Club (HEC), a small museum in a duplex in Detroits burgeoning Core City neighborhood whose ground floor houses a general store full of secondhand oddities for sale at throwaway prices. The project is a collaboration between author and artist Stefany Anne Golberg and her husband, Morgan Meis, who met nearly two decades ago during college in New York City. But the concept of the Huckleberry Explorers Club is Golbergs own and predates the physical location, or even the couples move to Detroit in late 2015.

It began out of my longstanding habit collecting things that arent collectible, including experiences and photographs and in creating little writings, and also a sort of terror that I have of discarding things, said Golberg on a tour of the museum with Hyperallergic.

Golberg gestures to a ring affixed to a cardboard stand in a cardboard niche of a cardboard wall. The museum falls somewhere between a meerkat habitat and grotto: a cozy, low-lit womb of custom displays for Golbergs ephemera.

The first feature from director Pierre Fldes, Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman ably captures Murakamis combination of low-key magical realism, sexual neurosis, and loneliness.

The screenplay is a clever act of remixing. Rather than a simple anthology of vignettes, each inspired by a Murakami story, this narrative combines them into episodes in the lives of three interlinked characters. When you buy a house to live in, you typically expect to be the new (and only) resident of an empty estate. But in the case of actor Brad Pitt, purchasing a home to add to his sprawling estate included the former owner, now turned extended house guest. The man, John, who sold the home to Pitt, was an elderly person in his nineties. Pitt allowed him to stay in the homerent-freeuntil the man died at 105 years old.

If this generous arrangement sounds unusual, its worth noting that this wasnt the only house on Pitts estateit was one of many. The A-lister purchased the 1.9-acre property in 1994 from actor Cassandra Peterson, aka Elvira from Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. According to her, there were over 20 homes along the edge of the property, and when one would come up for sale, Pitt would buy it. Johns abode was in that group of houses, although Pitt didnt make him move.

He [Pitt] was very, very kind to the husband, Peterson says. His wife passed away and the husband, John, lived there. I know that Brad allowed him to live there without paying anything until he died. While Pitt probably didnt expect the man to live for as long as he did, it was very kind of the actor to permit someone to live out the rest of their years in a place they were familiar with. And better yet, John didn't have to worry about the financial responsibilities of owning a home, such as paying property taxes.

Pitt recently sold the property, which is in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles, for about $40 million.

However, they didn't go public about their relationship until March 2022, when they appeared together on the BAFTAs red carpet. Brown then took Bongiovi as her date to the premiere of the latest season of Stranger Things. When asked about how she met Bongiovi, Brown said, We met on Instagramthe old Instagramand we were friends for a bit, and then, what can I say?

If the last name of Brown's beau rings an 80s rock bell, you're not mistaken. Bongiovi is the 20-year-old son of musician Jon Bon Jovi (whose real name is John Francis Bongiovi) and karate instructor/restaurateur Dorothea Hurley. An actor like Brown, he is slated to make his film debut in Sweethearts, a romcom directed by Jordan Weiss.

Bongiovi also seemed to share the news, posting two images seemingly taken on the same day as Brown'sjudging by the outfits with the caption, Forever. While neither of their posts explicitly announce their engagement, the big ring on Brown's finger and their choice of the romantic phrases surely gives it away.

Actress Millie Bobby Brown has seemingly announced her engagement to boyfriend Jake Bongiovi.

Rusty-Spotted Is One of the Worlds Smallest Wild Cat Species Weighing Only 3 Pounds "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Rusty-Spotted Is One of the Worlds Smallest Wild Cat Species Weighing Only 3 Pounds

Rusty-Spotted Cats

Photo: jonnysek/Depositphotos

When you think of wild cats like leopards and cheetahs, you expect them to be large. Larger, at least, than a domesticated house cat. But not rusty-spotted cats. These creatures are one of the worlds smallest wild cat species, weighing between 2.2 and 3.5 pounds and measuring up to 20 inches long. Thats smaller than most adult house cats!

Although these tiny cats look like domesticated felineswith markings similar to the Bengal breedtheir body is slender and smaller than their domestic counterparts. Their fur is brownish-gray with rusty streaks that run from their heads to their paws. (The reddish-brown spots are how the species got its name.)

Rusty-spotted cats are found in South Asian, including places like India, Sri Lanka, and the Bardia National Park in Nepal. Their habitats vary; the cats have been found in both dry and moist forests, bamboo forests, wooded grasslands, and rocky hills. They are fierce hunters who look for rodents and small birds. Theyll even climb trees to look for their prey up high, in addition to on the ground.

This species isnt endangered, but it is considered Vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The reason is mostly due to habitat loss as human populations in India and Sri Lanka continue to grow. Protecting land from development will give the rusty-spotted cat the chance to thrive, along with other animals who live in its environment.

The rusty-spotted cat is one of the world's smallest cat species.

The Rusty Spotted Cat is the smallest wildcat, only 3.5lbs, this one is an adult.

The Largest European Bitcoin Conference Set To Return To Amsterdam In 2023 "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The continents largest Bitcoin conference will return to Westergas once again in 2023 to connect Bitcoiners and celebrate Bitcoin.

Disclaimer: BTC Inc is the parent company of the Bitcoin Conference and Bitcoin Magazine.

Bitcoin enthusiasts from across Europe and beyond are set to descend on Amsterdam in mid-October for the return of the continent's largest conference dedicated to Bitcoin. Organized by BTC Inc, organizer of the Bitcoin Conference, and Amsterdam Decentralized, the event will be held at Culture Village Westergas over two days, starting on October 12. The conference will focus on hyperbitcoinization and building within the Bitcoin industry. Bitcoin Amsterdam aims to put the city on the map as Europe's most innovative city in Bitcoin.

David Bailey, CEO Bitcoin Magazine, said that while European regulators have been slow to embrace Bitcoin's potential, the combination of the continent's history and the continued high demand for Bitcoin means that the community can provide the support, cooperation and direction that European governments fail to provide. "Together, we are pursuing the goal of hyperbitcoinization," he added. The conference's previous lineup of speakers included Alex Gladstein, Bert and Peter Slagter, Stella Assange and Adam Back.

Sebastiaan van Erne, who is helping to organize Bitcoin Amsterdam, said the aim was to attract 150,000 visitors to Amsterdam over the next five years. "With this conference, we directly put Amsterdam on the map as Europes most innovative city in Bitcoin," he said. "By partnering with BTC Inc., the company behind Bitcoin 2023, we have access to globally renowned speakers. We achieved the goal of Bitcoin Amsterdam with 5,000 visitations the first year. For the next conference, we will expand even further and have even bigger speakers from different disciplines."

General admission tickets for the conference start at 250, while VIP Whale Passes are available from 2,500. The event will be held at the Gashouder, Transformatorhuis and Cultuurdorp Westergas in Amsterdam.

TBD Partners With Yellow Card To Enable Global Payments In 16 African Countries Via Bitcoin Rails "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Developer platform TBD announces partnership with Yellow Card to provide global fiat on- and off-ramps for bitcoin and stablecoin payments in Africa.

Blocks TBD, a Bitcoin-focused developer platform, has partnered with Yellow Card to unlock a network of fiat on- and off-ramps and payments via Bitcoin in 16 African countries. This aims to make cross-border payments and liquidity exchanges more accessible and affordable, and provide compliant cross-border payments and fiat off-ramps, according to a press release sent to Bitcoin Magazine. Yellow Card will be a launch partner for the Web5 protocol and the tbDEX liquidity network.

Currently, cross-border payments in Africa can incur fees of almost 10% and take several days to clear using available systems. In March 2023, TBD and Yellow Card conducted a successful proof of concept for payment rails from the U.S. to Ghana, Nigeria and Kenya, in real time. Senders can initiate remittances in USD, while recipients can receive local fiat currency into bank accounts or mobile money wallets, such as M-PESA and MTN. TBD converts the USD into Bitcoin or stablecoins and facilitates the exchange between digital assets and local fiat currencies.

Alternatively, recipients can opt to hold their value in Bitcoin or USD stablecoins, which is particularly valuable if they live in regions impacted by local currency volatility or hyperinflation, the press release describes. TBD's next goal is to establish decentralized identity, trust and transaction protocols that enable a ubiquity of decentralized and trusted exchanges to occur.

Yellow Card will be one of TBDs first partners to enable global payments and fiat off-ramps for end consumers to send USD or Bitcoin and receive payments in local fiat currencies. TBD provides APIs and developer services that make it easy for app developers to embed functionality that enables these transactions to happen in real-time for their end consumers. The partnership is part of Block's vision of developing global on- and off-ramps, with the goal of enabling the mainstream adoption of Bitcoin in commercial and financial applications at scale.

"We're thrilled to work with TBD and the Block team on tbDEX and their global payments initiatives, said Chris Maurice, CEO and co-founder of Yellow Card. "The internat...

Gracefully Elongated Limbs Stretch and Bend in Isabel Miramontess Figurative Sculptures "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

A photo of a bronze sculpture of a figure pulling at another lying on the floor

Come On, bronze, 26 x 24 x 12 inches. All images courtesy of CASART, shared with permission

With a flair for dramatic contortions of the human body, Spanish artist Isabel Miramontes (previously) casts elongated limbs and impossibly stretched torsos in bronze. Many of her elegant sculptures depict androgynous figures with no discernable gender or clothing who are caught in the midst of movement.  Expressive and exaggerated, the figures evoke the distinct tension between corporeal limitation and liberation.

In Come On, for example, one subject attempts to pull another from their collapsed position on the floor, while other works feature characters with segmented bodies or heads attached to an upper arm rather than a neck. The latter emphasizes the ephemeral aspects of both motion and the flesh, showing that each will ultimately disappear into memory.

The first two of the three electromagnetic pulses (EMPs) emitted during a nuclear explosion are by far the briefest. The first pulse has a duration of nanoseconds; the second lasts only microseconds. Ocean Cleanup Has Removed Over 220 Tons of Plastic Out of the Pacific Ocean "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Ocean Cleanup Has Removed Over 220 Tons of Plastic Out of the Pacific Ocean

The Ocean Cleanup

One non-profit organization is making progress toward its goal of ridding the oceans of plastic by 2040. With its latest haul from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch (GPGP), The Ocean Cleanup has now removed over 220 tons (200,000 kg) of trash from the sea. It's a stunning achievement that should be applauded, particularly when one realizes that the entire project began thanks to a simple idea by a teenager.

Dutch inventor Boyan Slat is the founder and CEO of The Ocean Cleanup. Now 28, he was just 16 years old when he wondered why it was so hard to keep plastic out of the ocean. That simple question led to big ambitions, and over the years Slat and his team have tested and improved a mechanism for hauling large quantities of trash from the seas.

System 002/B is the current model at work and has just completed its first haul of 2023. The nearly 7 tons (6,260 kg) of plastic that is extracted pushed the organization over the 220-ton mark. And while this is great progress, there is sadly much more trash where that came from. The GPGP covers an area twice the size of Texas and a 2018 research paper estimated that it contained 87,500 tons of plastic.

So while The Ocean Cleanup has made great progress, there is still a long way to go before the GPGP disappears. Of course, we can all do our part to ensure that there is less plastic around to end up in the ocean. This starts with habits at home and doing away with single-use plastic. While many governments have already banned items like plastic drinking straws and non-biodegradable shopping bags, everyone can do their part. Whether that means purchasing a reusable water bottle or switching to an eco-friendly toothbrush, every little bit helps.

After its first haul of 2023, The Ocean Cleanup has extracted over 220 tons of plastic from th...

Selling to the Strand: A Conversation with Larry Campbell "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

Photograph by Troy Schipdam.

In nearly eight years of working at the Strand, Ive become friends with many of the regulars who sell books to the store. Overseen by the Strands late owner, Fred Bass, until his death in 2018, our buying desk has always been known as a place to make a quick buck. For some, though, it has become a way to make a living.

Larry Campbell, now seventy-two, has been selling books to the Strand since the early nineties. He was once one of the few people we could count on seeing Monday through Saturday, sometimes multiple times a day. Over the past few years, Larry has come by less frequently, and with far fewer books, but he has always been a welcome character, soft-spoken and kind, at the fast-paced and sometimes tense atmosphere of the buying desk. Here, he discusses his life in New York, and how he got started selling books. This interviewpart of an ongoing series of conversations with people who resell books in the citywas conducted across the street from Strand in September 2019.

Intricately cutting single sheets of paper by hand, Antonius-Tn Bui (previously) reveals intimate portraits of friends, family, and the diverse narratives that shape identity and community. The Vietnamese-American artists subjects are delineated by elaborate geometric and botanical patterns evocative of Southeast Asian decorative motifs and are often portrayed among clusters of traditional porcelain vases, some of which contain large voids as if a piece has broken off. Among the vessels and patterns, Bui details figures enmeshed in their surroundings as words and interiors tenderly acknowledge the queer Asian American and Pacific Islander community.

The First Solar Eclipse Of 2023 Is Almost Here, Bringing Life-Changing Chaos With It "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

This solar eclipse encourages self-sufficiency and authentic expression

A full moon brings intensity and drama to everyday moments, from being pushed to have a relationship-defining conversation to addressing heavy-duty emotions rooted in the past. On the other hand, new moons give us the opportunity to set a powerful intention or plant seeds that we want to see grow over the course of a new lunar cycle. In both cases, we are generally invited to work with the current astrological energy. But eclipse seasons, which occur twice a year and include roughly four lunar events, are a completely different story. These supercharged new and full moons are known to cause stunning shifts and significant course changes that can promote growth. The first eclipse season in 2023 begins on Thursday, April 20, at 12:12 a.m. ET, with a solar eclipse and new moon in Aries, the cardinal fire sign represented by the ram.
This is the first eclipse of the year and the first in a brand-new series that will last until March 29, 2025. Continue reading to learn about solar eclipses and which signs will be most affected by this astrological event.

What Do Solar Eclipses Mean in Astrology?

There are numerous ways to make the most of a new moon, from taking a favorite spiritual bath to simply talking about your goals with a friend or therapist. The Final Brick in the Vaccine Efficacy Narrative "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Two key bricks seem to have already fallen from the COVID vaccines narrative the one about their fantastic efficacy against infections and the one about their superb safety. We conducted a rigorous review of representative data from three types of sources: (1) the original clinical trials by Pfizer and Moderna, (2) the more contemporary studies on the fourth dose of the vaccine, and (3) the popular dashboards of pandemic statistics. In this relatively short article (that echoes a video I prepared on this topic), I will not be able to present our entire findings. However, I do wish to give you a taste of our review using three examples, starting with the founding clinical trial by Pfizer.

Number of Deaths in the Clinical Trial by Pfizer

One might (falsely) assume that the key question I presented above was already answered in the Phase 3, Randomized Control Trial by Pfizer the one that allowed the FDA to issue its emergency authorization to use t...
