$24,400 May Be Next Major Level Of Support For Bitcoin, Heres Why "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Historical data of an on-chain indicator may suggest that the $24,400 level could be a major level of support for Bitcoin right now.

Bitcoin STH MVRV Would Hit 1.0 If Price Declines To $24,400

According to this weeks edition of the Glassnode report, the 1.0 level of the Bitcoin STH MVRV has been a point of support for the market during uptrends in the past. The STH here refers to the  short-term holder group, which is a Bitcoin cohort that includes all investors who have been holding onto their coins since less than 155 days ago.

The market value to realized value (MVRV) is an indicator that measures the ratio between the Bitcoin market cap and its realized cap. The realized cap here is a BTC capitalization model that aims to find the real value of the asset by assuming that the value of each coin in circulation is not the current price, but the price at which it was last moved on the blockchain.

Since the realized cap accounts for the price at which the investors bought (which is the price at which their coins last moved), its comparison with the market cap (that is, the current price) can tell us about the degree of profitability or loss among the overall market.

When the MVRV is greater than 1, it means the average investor is holding an unrealized profit with their BTC right now. On the other hand, values below this threshold imply the market as a whole is holding some amount of unrealized loss currently.

Now, the STH MVRV, the actual indicator of interest in the current discussion, naturally measures the value of the ratio specifically for the coins owned by the Bitcoin short-term holders.

The below chart shows the trend in the 7-day average value of this metric over the last few years:

Bitcoin Short-Term Holder MVRV

In the graph, Glassnode has marked the lines of the 7-day average Bitcoin STH MVRV that have been relevant to the price of the cryptocurrency during the last few years.

It looks like short-term corrections for the asset have generally become more probable when this indicator has crossed a value of 1.2. At this level, the STHs hold unrealized profits of 20%.

The recent drawdown in the cryptocurrencys price from the...

This Meme Coin Created By GPT-4 Is Now Worth $40 Million, Heres Why "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

As the meme coin season continues to unfold, there have been more novel ideas coming out of the space. The most recent one that is catching investors attention is a meme coin that was created using the famous ChatGPT-4 artificial intelligence (AI). As the coin continues to rally, lets take a look at its inception and how it has been able to grow this much.

The Genesis Of Turbo Toad Token

About two weeks ago, a Twitter user that goes by Rhett Mankind posted that they had given GPT-4 a $69 budget with the instruction to create a meme token that become the most successful new meme token. What followed was an interesting thread sharing the process and creation of the token.

After going through different suggested names, Rhett finally settled on the name Turbo Toad Token (TTT) following a Twitter poll where the name emerged as the most popular. GPT-4 further provided the prompts to create AI images for the meme coin, as well as develop the tokenomics for it.

The coin was initially launched by Rhett but failed on the first try. However, the second iteration proved to be successful after a crowdfunding round carried out on Twitter. The website created was very basic but investors quickly latched on to the coin, pulling in around 50 holders with a 69 billion total supply on the first day. This is where it gets interesting.

AI-Generated Meme Coin Grows To $40 Million

The last iteration of the meme coin was launched on Sunday, April 29, and in the next three days, the coin exploded. First, TURBO launched at a price of around $0.00001773, data from Dextools shows, and it has already grown over 10x since then. Its holder base rose from 50 wallets on launch day to 4,474 at the time of writing, with over 14,600 transfers already carried out on the contract so far.

Interestingly, this meme coin has surged faster than some of its counterparts, now sitting at a $40 million market cap...

An Enchanting Addition to the American Museum of Natural History Houses the New Gilder Center within a Massive Geological Cavern "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

A sculptural addition to the American Museum of Natural History encases the New York institution within a cavernous structure that captures the immensity of deep, geological time. The project of Chicago-based Studio Gang, the Richard Gilder Center for Science, Education, and Innovation is a massive, dramatic space spanning 230,000 square feet with sweeping exhibition halls, a research library with a ceiling evocative of a gilled mushroom, a theater, and a five-story atrium filled with natural light.

Similar to the museums Central Park West entrance, Milford pink granite cloaks the exterior, and the undulating cliff-like facade features windows of fritted glass, a porous material that reduces glare, energy costs, and most importantly, the risk of bird collisions. The interior of the center mimics a hidden cave with walls that appear eroded by wind and water to reveal round, asymmetric openings, all of which are made with textured shotcrete, concrete thats sprayed on an armature of rebar and metal mesh and then shaped. Designed as a system of loops to connect parts of the new wing with the existing building, the centers structure allows visitors to seamlessly flow from one space to the next.

Prominent Analysts Vouch For Crypto As The Banking Stocks Nosedive "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Chaos brews in the US financial sector as banking stocks tank further, and experts claim a crypto moment is brewing. The Feds continuous interest rate hike to curb inflation isnt helping matters.

The rising crisis sparked reactions from prominent analysts who weighed in on a possible bull run for crypto as the bank stocks tank.

The analysts believe the rising crisis presents an opportunity for crypto and bonds to shine. In recent tweets, prominent financial analysts, David Rosenberg, and Raoul Pal, think people should move to bonds and crypto now that banks are failing.

Banking Stocks Nosedive

The past few weeks have been chaotic in the United States banking sector as top banks collapsed in the blink of an eye. Although the crisis slightly impacted crypto after three crypto-focused banks collapsed, asset prices gained momentum, soaring higher in the days following the news.

Many attributed the rallies to the lost confidence in bank stocks among investors. Most investors resorted to crypto as an alternative to the declining bank stocks, increasing market sentiment and pushing asset prices.

Bitcoin rallied over 40% in the weeks following the collapse of top US-based global banks. Bitcoin hit and exceeded the $28,000 mark for the first time since June 2022.

Biden Administration Proposes 30% Tax On Crypto Mining To Counter Environmental Impact "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Several US authorities have raised concerns regarding the environmental impact of crypto mining. Previously, US lawmakers probed the crypto mining energy use and environmental impact.

Bidens administration is taking these concerns to another level. Bidens Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) announced a 30% digital asset mining tax to offset its environmental impact. The new tax rule tagged DAME will take effect after a phase-in period.

Bitcoin Energy Consumption Attracts New Tax Rules

Crypto mining electricity consumption and carbon emission have been a bone of contention in the United States over the past years. A recently published New York Times article claimed Bitcoin has a voracious appetite for electricity, sparking several reactions among crypto community members.

The CEA announced plans to impose a 30% tax on all crypto-mining activities. The council believes the crypto mining industrys operations negatively impact the environment and is ready to counter them.

The proposed tax, tagged Digital Asset Mining Energy (DAME), aims to make crypto mining firms take responsibility for their environmental impact. According to the CEAs announcement, the new tax rules will have a phased-in period before taking its course.

Under the new tax guidelines, all mining firms in the US would pay taxes on 30% of their total electricity usage. The CEA feels crypto miners must take responsibility for the environmental pollution they impose on the local community from the increased greenhouse gas emissions.

Also, the CEA believes...

Stacks (STX) Price Defies Bears, Surges While The Market Bleeds "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Stacks (STX) is on an uptrend today, gaining over 12% in the last 24 hours. Although the general crypto market is volatile, STX shows positive moves on the price chart.

STX increased progressively in 2023 despite some price pullbacks due to price volatility. It traded at $0.213 on January 1, 2023, and moved to the $0.3 price range on February 3. It increased to $0.6439 by February 19 and hit $0.9 on February 27 for the first time in 2023.

STX reached $1.1762 on March 17 after some price fluctuations. However, the bears were still active in the market, forcing a retreat back to the $0.7 price in April and early May. However, its price action is still positive.

Stacks (STX) Price Analysis

STX is in the green today, forming a higher high on the price chart as the bulls seek to reclaim the earlier gains. The $0.6786 support acted as a price pivot as it approached its closest resistance level of $0.8238. Also, STX is trading above its 200-day Simple Moving Average (SMA), a bullish sentiment in the long term.

However, STX is still below its 50-day SMA since its decline on April 13, 2023. This is a bearish sentiment in the short term that shows the bears are still active in the market.

Also, the Moving Average Convergence/Divergence (MACD) is slightly above its signal line and shows a negative value. It is also a bearish sentiment. However, the MACDs histogram bars show a green bar forming, which indicates a positive trend reversal ahead.

STXs Relative Strength Index (RSI) is 51.59 in the neutral zone. Note that the indicator is moving upwards, signifying the possibility of an uptrend.

Reviving Argentina's Economy: Dollarization And Bitcoin As Catalysts For Change "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Many experts have suggested dollarization as a way to save Argentinas flailing economy, but it needs Bitcoin too.

This is an opinion editorial by Carlos Crdenas, an institutional account manager who has worked at legacy banks and cryptocurrency exchanges.

Argentina is on the verge of financial collapse as record inflation and Argentine peso (ARS) devaluation hits the market. According to research from Steve Hanke, a professor of applied economics at Johns Hopkins University, the peso has depreciated 47% against the U.S. dollar (UD) and inflation is running higher than 118% per year. His solution: dollarize the Argentine economy.

While dollarization is already in play in Argentina to some extent (many Argentinians save in dollars and accept dollars at their businesses) the peso is still the de facto currency of the country. The Dlar Blue rate, an informal measure of the cost of buying and selling a physical dollar bill in Argentina, has risen 23 times since 2018. At the time of this writing, it sits at 465 ARS to 1 USD. Factors such as the rising costs of living, bad economic practices and the COVID-19 pandemic have led to this outcome for Argentina.

Pundits, politicians and local citizens are advocating for full-fledged dollarization as the solution, but is this the best method, or can we find something better? Given the inherent problems with the USD, perhaps a hybrid approach that implements the superior qualities of Bitcoin, could serve Argentina better.

A Case Study In Ecuador

To analyze this, let's take a look at Ecuador, which was one of the first Latin American countries to leave its national currency, the sucre, and adopt U.S. dollars in 1999.

By the end of 1999, inflation in Ecuador had reached 60% and the sucre had devalued by about 300%. To prevent bank failures, the government shut down banks and started to rescue the financial system. As expected, this did not work and not only did poverty explode in...

What Is The Alien Starseeds Movement And Why Can It Be Harmful For Your Mental Health "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

What is a starseed, you ask?

Dont worry, because I am definitely going to tell you and along the day, well meet the people who very badly want to believe thats exactly what they are.

There are a group of people online who refer to themselves as Starseeds, which means they believe they are reincarnated aliens who first arrived on Earth from varying planets and stars.

One Youtuber, known as The Alchemist, attempts to explain.

Starseed is the modern name for what was known in antiquity as angels. They are residents of a higher dimensions that specifically incarnated into a human physical experience with the intention to help raise the collective consciousness of humanity.

This concept has been around since the original New Age push in the 70s and has been revived with the recent rise of the wellness industry.

If you think this sounds a little bit out there, youre not alone. That said, psychology professors Ken Drinkwater and Neil Dagnall think they can help explain why so many people are anxious to believe.

New Ethereum Killer SUI Launches Today, What You Need To Know "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Today is the day, the long-awaited launch of the next Ethereum killer SUI is taking place at 8:15 am EST (12:15 UTC). From a purely technical standpoint, SUI does a few things differently compared to Ethereum, and therefore the expectations are high. In addition to the bankrupt exchange FTX, the project has numerous notable backers, including Circle, Binance Labs, and Electric Capital.

The designated proof-of-stake (dPoS) blockchain has an entirely new architecture that is supposed to outshine even the high-speed blockchain Solana. Many of Suis developers previously worked on the Meta (Facebook)-launched project Diem, which was scrapped some time ago due to regulatory headwinds.

The developers behind Sui, Mysten Labs, are one of two spinoffs from Diem, the second being none other than Aptos, which celebrated its mainnet launch last October. The former Meta employees founded Mysten Labs back in 2021 to develop Sui.

Why Sui Is Being Hyped

One of the things that sets the Sui blockchain apart is its tremendous processing speed of data, which no other layer-1 blockchain can match. In testing, Sui already brought it to more than 300,000 transactions per second (tps). This far exceeds even Solana (65,000 TPS). Likewise, Sui has a big speed advantage in transaction confirmation time.

While Solana needs around 20 seconds, Suis is only 450 milliseconds. In terms of scalability, Mysten Labs says that the system design is designed to allow horizontal scalability, which is not capped.

In addition to Suis high throughput and low latency, the project also touts a third advantage: the ability to process arbitrary amounts of data on chain. To do this, SUI makes use of a storage fund that redistributes fees for past transactions to future validators.

In other words, users pay upfront fees for both computation and storage. When storage requirements on-chain are high, validators receive additional rewards to offset their costs. Conversely, when storage requirements are low.

These three benefits are meant to take the use cases of blockchain technology to the next level.

Tokenomics

While IOUs were already trading on smaller exchanges ahead of the official launch of the blockchain at 8 am EST (2 pm CET), well-known crypto exchanges such as Binance, OKX, KuCoin, and ByBit have announced the listing of the new token as soon as liquidity requirements are met.

Binance, for example, said it expected to begin trading SUI/BTC, SUI/USDT, SUI/TUSD and SUI/BNB at 8:15 am EST.

SUIs token supply has a cap of 10 billion tokens. As stated by the Sui Foundation, a portion of the total supply is expected to be liquid when the mainnet launches today. The remaining tokens will be transferred or distributed as future re...

ADA Price (Cardano) Could Narrowly Avoid a Major Drop If It Closes Above $0.4 "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Cardanos price started a fresh decline from the $0.415 resistance. ADA could decline further if there is a clear move below the $0.38 support.

  • ADA price is struggling to gain pace above $0.40 and $0.415 against the US dollar.
  • The price is trading below $0.400 and the 100 simple moving average (4 hours).
  • There is a major bearish trend line forming with resistance near $0.398 on the 4-hour chart of the ADA/USD pair (data source from Kraken).
  • The pair could start a decent increase if it clears the $0.400 resistance zone.

Cardanos ADA Price Faces Resistance

This past week, Cardanos price made a couple of attempts to clear the $0.415 resistance. However, the bulls struggled to gain strength for a sustained move above $0.415.

As a result, there was a fresh decline toward the $0.38 support. A low is formed near $0.3800 and the price is showing a few bearish signs, similar to Bitcoin and Ethereum. It is now trading below $0.400 and the 100 simple moving average (4 hours).

On the upside, immediate resistance is near the $0.398 zone. There is also a major bearish trend line forming with resistance near $0.398 on the 4-hour chart of the ADA/USD pair.

The trend line is close to the 50% Fib retracement level of the recent drop from the $0.4149 swing high to the 0.3800 low. The next major resistance is forming near the $0.400 zone or the 100 simple moving average (4 hours).

The 61.8% Fib retracement level of the recent drop from the $0.4149 swing high to the 0.3800 low is also near $0.4015. If there is an upside break above the $0.402 and $0.405 resistance levels, the price could start a decent increase.

Cardano (ADA) Network Transaction Skyrockets Bullish Takeover Imminent? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Cardano weathered the storm of a tumultuous April, marked by market turbulence and regulatory challenges, and emerged with a glimmer of growth. Despite the obstacles, the blockchain platforms native cryptocurrency, ADA, managed to hold its ground and even make some notable gains along the way.

The recently released monthly report for April by Cardano has shed light on some intriguing developments regarding the networks activity. The update offers insights into various aspects of Cardanos performance during the month of April, presenting a comprehensive overview of the platforms progress.

Heres whats up with Cardano:

Network Activity Shows Positive Growth Despite Challenges

Cardanos latest monthly report for April indicates that the network experienced a healthy uptick in transaction activity, with a 2.49% increase to 65.6 million transactions and a 1.19% growth in the number of wallets.

The report reveals that simple transactions made up the majority, accounting for 49% of total transactions, while smart contract transactions grew by 30% and metadata made up the rest. The report suggests that Cardanos increasing utility is driving significant growth.

However, despite the positive network activity, ADAs price has seen a decline in the past 24 hours, trading at $0.3875, a drop of 0.34%. The cryptocurrencys bearish performance has continued, with a further drop of 2.43% in the past seven days.

It remains to be seen how Cardanos growth in network activity will affect ADAs price in the long term.

ADA Positive April 1st Half Followed By Market Decline

Meanwhile, aside from the network activity growth, Cardanos monthly report also highlighted ADAs impressive performance in the first two weeks of April, with a 23% price gain. However, the cryptocurrency then experienced a significant decline, losing almost...

Watch a Traditional Japanese Carpenter Make 190+ Different Joints, All Without Nails, Screws, or Glue "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Before the internet, it would have been hard to imagine that people around the world would one day be unable to get enough of traditional Japanese carpentry, and specifically traditional Japanese joinery. And before Youtube, who could have predicted that videos showing each and every step of a woodworking project without narration, or indeed explanation of any kind would find an enthusiastic viewership? At the intersection of these two surprising phenomena stands that channel H Carpenter, whose unadorned, methodical, and detailed portrayals of wooden joint-making have racked up millions upon millions of views.

In traditional Japanese joinery, which weve featured many times before here on Open Culture, the carpenter uses no nails, screws, or adhesives. Rather, he carves the ends of the pieces of wood to be joined into interlocking three-dimensional shapes that can hold solid for decades, or even centuries.

School Principal, Forced to Resign After Students Learn About Michelangelos David, Visits the Renaissance Statue in Florence "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

In March, a Florida school principal lost her job when 6th graders encountered Michelangelos David during an art history lessoneven though the school ostensibly specializes in offering students a content-rich classical education in the liberal arts and sciences. Parents apparently found the Renaissance sculpture, um, pornographic.

Fast forward two months, and the former principal Hope Carrasquilla has now traveled to Florence and visited Michelangelos David in person. This came at the invitation of the mayor of Florence, Dario Nardella, and the director of the Galleria dellAccademia, Cecilie Hollberg. Above you can see Hollberg on the left, and Carrasquilla on the right.

On Instagram, Carrasquilla commented:

Im very impressed. The thing that strikes me the most, and that I didnt know, is that this whole gallery was built for him [Michelangelos David]. I think its beautiful, it looks like a church. And to me, that just represents really the purity of this figure and you see his humanity.  There is nothing wrong with the human body. Michelangelo did nothing wrong. He could only sculpt it like this. It couldnt be otherwise. Hes wonderful and Im really happy to be here.

In her own statement, Hollberg said:

I am delighted to welcome her and show her the magnificence of our museum, as well as personally introduce her to David, a sculpture that I reiterate has nothing to do with pornography. It is a masterpiece representing a religious symbol of purity and innocence, the triumph of good over evil. His nudity is an outward manifestation of Renaissance thought, which considered man the centre of the universe. People from all over the world, including many Americans, make the pilgrimage to admire him every year. Currently, more than 50% of visitors are from the Un...

Bitcoin Analysis: How To Prepare For Todays FOMC Meeting "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Todays interest rate decision by the U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) and the following press conference by the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) could make up for this years most important day so far for the Bitcoin price.

In March, the Fed had raised the benchmark interest rate by another 0.25 basis points (bps). At the time, central bankers were leaving their next steps open. Fed Chairman Jerome Powell clarified that further rate hikes may be appropriate and that the decision will be data dependent.

25 Bps Expected Despite Strong Headwinds

Most recently, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) surprised on the upside with an annualized decline to 5.0% (from 6.0%), but core inflation is proving to be very sticky. Nevertheless, the market expects todays 0.25 basis point rate hike to be the last in this cycle.

According to the CMEs FedWatch tool, 89% of market participants believe the Fed will make this move today, despite facing strong headwinds from U.S. politics yesterday. Democratic-led members of Congress called on the Fed to pause rate hikes.

Ten senators and representatives, led by Senator Elizabeth Warren, expressed concern about the Feds monetary policy strategy in a letter to Fed Chairman Jerome Powell on Monday and urged avoiding a recession that kills jobs and crushes small businesses.

Also arguing against continued aggressive policy is the fact that the fastest rate hike cycle in Fed history has caused deep cracks in the U.S. banking system. Following the fall of Silicon Valley Bank, Signature Bank and First Republic Bank, numerous other regional U.S. banks plunged deep into negative territory yesterday.

Are Hard Jobs Best Left To Lazy People? Heres Why Some Folks Say Definitely Yes. "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

It might go against your inclination to agree that lazy people are the ones to trust with the toughest job, but some people say theyre the ones who will find the easiest road to accomplishing them.

And then the rest of us can follow suit.

These people must agree, because theyve got some real-life examples that just might convince you, too.

Theyre always shocked.

I used to have to make two contracts for every person I brought on a traveling training team. I said 2 contracts was stupid and made them into 1, sent it to our lawyers, and they approved it. Still took me too goddamn long to update each contract with different names, pay rates, and dates. Went on r/excel and found out how to make a mailer list and hours of work takes me 10 minutes. I didnt tell anyone this though so I just take my time.

Then I had to make floor maps for restaurants to send to the company that puts them into our scheduling program. Well all of our restaurants are cookie cutter so I just use paint to piece them together rather than make all of them each time. Im fucken picasso with Microsoft paint.

Then they wanted me to use excel to keep track of training teams. One of my coworkers used Smartsheet and loves to teach people things. So I jump on Smartsheet with her and she shows me around. Way easier and easier publishing it so that people can see the teams but not mess up any info.

People Weigh In On Why They Decide To Be Kind Every Single Day "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Listen, no one can be kind every single day of their lives. We all get into moods, or have things come up that we cant control.

That said, plenty of people do their best to face each day with a good, kind attitude regardless of how others respond to them and if youre curious how they can manage it, heres how some folks make it happen!

Its what they have to give.

Im not especially strong or educated, Im not particularly well off and I know I can get carried away and come off as annoying sometimes.

So if I cant be strong or smart, socially adept or successful I can definitely be kind.

Any given day.

Because i could be the other person.

wherever people make a big deal out of help, I always say Well, I trust youd do the same for me.

I had someone reply with No I wouldnt, Im a d*%k and just said Well, maybe this was meant to let you reevaluate that. I kinda wonder if they did, we didnt know each other very well.

Its just easier.

Tbh for me it takes a lot of effort to be an a$$.

No like its so tiring to be a d*%k, like Ill get angry at something for a moment and before I know whats happening the wind has already left my sails and I cant be f**ked anymore.

Because why not?

I just do it cause why not? Let me tell you of a story: there once was a king who wanted a pond of milk. He told every single resident MUST give one cup of milk in the hole.

That one stings.

That calling someone simple is just a nice way of calling someone stupid.

Wife informed me of this, after 28 years of my grandma calling me simple.

Its actually good you didnt realize it then.

Nightmare Scenario: Godfather Of AI Quits Google To Warn The World About The Dangers Of AI "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

This week, a man who is commonly referred to as the Godfather of artificial intelligence (AI) handed in his resignation from his position at Google due to concerns about the future of AI.

The research that Geoffrey Hinton has done on deep learning and neural networks earned him the Turing Award in 2019, which is worth one million dollars, and has made him one of the most well-known researchers in his field.

During that time, he expressed his happiness with the victory to the CBC by saying that for a long time, neural networks were regarded as flaky in computer science. This was an acceptance that its not actually flaky.

Since then, a variety of artificial intelligence (AI) tools, such as Chat-GPT and AI picture generators, amongst many others, have contributed to the widespread use of the approach.

According to the New York Times, Hinton, who started working for Google in 2013 when the tech giant purchased his firm, now feels that the technology might pose hazards to society and has resigned the company in order to be free to speak about it publicly.

In the near term, Hinton is concerned about the chance that AI-generated text, photos, and videos could lead to humans being unable to know what is true anymore, in addition to the risk that the labor market will be disrupted.

Over the course of a longer period of time, he is far more concerned about artificial intelligence overtaking human intellect and AI picking up unanticipated behaviors.

Right now, theyre not more intelligent than us, as far as I can tell, he told the BBC. But I think they soon may be.

According to Hinton, who is 75 years old, artificial intelligence is now behind humans in terms of thinking, despite the fact that it is already capable of simple reasoning. However, he believes that it already has a significant advantage over humans in terms of its general knowledge.

All these copies can learn separately but share their knowledge instantly, he told the BBC. So its as if you had 10,000 people and whenever one person learnt something, everybody automatically knew it.

According to what he said to the New York Times, one cause for worry is the possibility that bad actors may use AI for their own evil purposes. Research into artificial intelligence by such groups would be far harder to oversee compared to the development...

Are you ready to hear some true stories about hero pets that went above and beyond the call of duty for their owners?

Then youre going to love what these folks had to say about their furry friends can definitely be categorized as heroes.

Check out these great tales!

Good job, Sally!

One morning, my daughters fianc, Jeremy, grabbed breakfast from the freezer. Soon after, our dog, Sally, came to his side, whimpering and pacing until he followed her to the kitchen. She pawed and yelped at the freezer doorbut she wasnt begging for food.

Jeremy opened the freezer door and found our kitten, Punsey, lying cold and limp on the low metal shelf. Punsey mustve gotten curious and snuck in while Jeremys back was turned. Jeremy wrapped Punsey in a thick towel and held him against his chest until he warmed up and began moving.

Good thing Sally was looking out for her little buddy.

A total diva.

Our beloved heifer Lulu was a total diva. She was a food hog and a troublemaker, but also a great asset because she was the lead cow when the herd moved pastures. Cows like to follow a leader, and Lulu liked to lead!

One summer, a wildfire broke out. While evacuating, we could barely see through the smoke or hear over the roar of the flames, but we knew that if Lulu could hear us, shed come. My husband could see Lulu looking around bewildered but trying to prevent a stampede. He ventured into the smoke to get her attention.

A few minutes later, Lulu and my husband emerged, leading our bull and 25 heifers to a safe pasture. If she hadnt been there to calm and lead the others, they wouldve panicked and scattered. Our sassy little heifer kept the herd together and likely saved many of their lives.

Fire!

Jordan Peterson says that in the next 2 years AI will make a staggering difference in our lives that we will not be able to ignore. Peterson goes on to speculate with good reason about the decline in human relationships as there will be many who will either have to or willingly resort to a virtual Ai partner even having sex with it. Ask yourself if we are not to blame for this because of our failures to make human relationships work out?

Were not even talking about the development of AI robot romance partners on the scale of realism of the movie Blade Runner starring Harrison Ford. That will come a bit later and that final dehumanizing element could possibly be about huge depopulation numbers by a willing human population willing to make the substitution from warm flesh with a soul to an automated replica capable of acting as a partner who perhaps even becomes a better partner as the AI programming allows that partner to adjust to and learn all about the human partner the joys, the fears, the needs, and emotional factors that most humans for one reason or another seem resistant to. As Ive said before human nature sucks!

Is a Brazilian Art School Actually a Cult? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Editors Note: The following story contains material related to sexual assault. If you or someone you know is struggling, call 1-800-656-HOPE (4673) or visit online.rainn.org to reach the National Sexual Assault Hotline.

In September 2022, 31-year-old artist Mirela Cabral along with two other women filed a complaint against the Brazilian artist Rubens Espirito Santo, 53, who created the Conglomerado Atelier do Centro (CAC) over 20 years ago. What started as an informal school ostensibly founded to offer teaching and advising for young artists is now being described by some of its alumni as a cult.

The so-called art school functioned right in the city center of So Paulo, Brazil, enrolling dozens of students until it was forced to shut its doors following accusations aired on the podcast O Ateli, presented this January by journalists Chico Felitti and Beatriz Trevisan. In theory, anyone could attend the Atelier, but it was mostly frequented by young people of the upper class. They were charmed by the middle-aged man who convinced them that he was an intellectual and the Marcel Duchamp of...

How Did Fake Antiquities End Up at a Presidential Library? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

On April 13, 2019, the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum in Iowa was set to open a temporary exhibition titled Written in Stone: The Rosetta Stone Exhibit. Traveling from the Origins Museum Institute in El Paso, Texas, the show was slated to run at the Presidential Library through October, featuring an exact replica made from a cast of the original Rosetta Stone alongside other rare and authentic objects from the ancient Near East. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reported that the exhibition was to feature a timeline of authentic artifacts including some of the oldest idols and sacred representations of deities ever found. Previewing the exhibition on April 8, however, I noticed that something was off. The imagery carved onto the stamp and cylinder seals was strang...

Amidst art galleries and bustling brunch spots near the Spring Street station in Manhattans trendy Nolita neighborhood, the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) is showcasing the bloated budget of the New York Police Department (NYPD) $11 billion per year, or $29 million per day.

Its the second time the advocacy organization has presented an exhibition in its pop-up Museum of Broken Windows; the first was in 2018. The current show, titled Twenty-Nine Million Dreams, runs through May 6.

The museum name references the broken windows theory, a policing strategy developed in the 1970s. The concept hinges on the idea that pett...

Pratt MFA Graduates Contemplate the Mess Were In "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

In 1981, Ronald Reagan deadpanned to a convention of carpenters, Status quo, you know, is Latin for the mess were in. Technically, status quo means state in which, but the joke is resonant because of the toxic stagnancy of 2022 and 2023, when these Pratt MFA students were developing their work. It may seem bizarre to open a review of Pratts MFA Fine Arts thesis show, Part 2, with a bad joke by a man who declared ketchup a vegetable, refused to say AIDS, and widened the gap between rich and poor. But this show is all about depicting the mess were in as the toxic capitalist, racist, misogynistic, transphobic status quo drags on in the United States and world is caught in such a precarious and discombobulated place. Why arent we changing it?

Like many in the show, Niousha Kiarashi is trying to work through the post-pandemic challenges and PTSD that formed the backdrop of the 202223 incubation period. As the artist explained to Hyperallegic, My work is all about invasion, and the messiness of emotions, and how they become part of us at the moment when we start experiencing them, and they invade us in my work I want to visualize the complexity of emotion as creatures like species, the way they grow spikes and different patterns influenced by nature.

Kiarashi transformed a closet into an exhibition niche, layering mulch on the floor and enhancing the atmosphere with an eerie soundtrack. A tiny video is visible in the mouth of an unidentifiable ceramic creature with many tentacles. The video reveals another monster within the larger monster, while the tentacles are a metaphor for the complexity of dealin...

Berlins Biggest-Ever Gallery Weekend Was Full of Wonders "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

BERLIN  Gallery Weekend Berlin 2023 came and went fringed with various joys. There is, of course, a glittering official success story: The 19th edition of the initiative was the biggest ever, with 55 galleries (big, small, institutional) from across the city showing more than 80 artists, including both celebrities and veterans. All this basking in the sweet glow of corporate sponsorship (Gucci, BMW) promising lavish dinners and thumping techno parties.

Gallery Weekend is not a Wagnerian endurance test. Since its impossible to see everything, especially for its fretful Wacky Races: glorious prepared chaos. Theres no grand curatorial theme dictated to galleries from above. This is surely an act of generosity, allowing different exhibitions to contradict each other, inviting excited chatter among visitors. Curators, collectors, and critics all hop froggishly in and out of sleek-interiored shuttle buses, gossiping deliriously at brunches, huddled in smoking areas; ordinary folk listen politely to gallerists spiels, mostly in smiling silence, with the bravest as...

13-Year-Old Heroically Stops School Bus After Driver Passes Out, Saves Classmates Lives "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

13-Year-Old Heroically Stops School Bus After Driver Passes Out, Saves Classmates Lives

At a moment's notice, quick thinking can save lives. Nothing illustrates this better than the story of 13-year-old hero named Dillon Reeves. The teen was riding a school bus full of students in Michigan when he noticed something was off. The driver felt lightheaded and said on the intercom that she was going to pull over for a moment. However, the bus never made it to the pull-off area, and began to drift onto oncoming traffic.

Security camera footage shows the driver losing consciousness and going limp. Noticing the danger of the situation, Reeves sprang from five rows back. Without hesitation, the 7th grader grabbed the steering wheel and slammed on the brakes carefully and slowly to prevent any injuries among his classmates. Immediately after, Reeves shouted at his fellow students for someone to call 911.

No students were hurt, and emergency services arrived at the scene in no time. The Warren Police and Fire Departments responded very quickly, tended to the driver, and the students were safely loaded onto a different bus to make their way home, Superintendent Robert D. Livernois wrote on Facebook.

Once everyone was accounted for, people praised Reeves' quick thinking, which averted a catastrophe. The actions of the student who helped stop the bus made all the difference today, and I could not be prouder of his efforts, said Livernois, who described this as an extraordinary act of courage and maturity. He had the wherewithal to push it [the brake] slowly, likely in anticipation that the bus was full of passengers.

Reeves' parents expressed their pride at his actions. Its an honor, exclaimed his dad Steve. Weve got a little hero. He could probably drive one of the cars out of here and be OK. I promise you that. The proud dad added that the boy has also practiced pulling cars into driveways and is a proficient and careful driver of golf carts. His stepmom, Ireta, also wrote a post on Facebook in which she called Reeves a local hero.

The story has made waves across the community. Not only did the Mayor of Warren Jim Fouts...

Natural Garden Shed Ideas "IndyWatch Feed Diy"

Garden sheds can push the envelope of sustainable design and they can show how much can be achieved when architecture and garden design come together with interesting, practical, and beautiful solutions.

When we integrate green roofs into our designs, we can add to our covered amenity space without reducing our plantable areas. There are a number of different green roof solutions that are suited to different types of roofs, different positions, and different areas or climate zones. It is important to understand the site and to choose accordingly.

Selecting native species rather than a generic green roof mix is generally a good idea since local plants are likely to be ideally suited to the local growing conditions.

Man-made structures dont have to stand out like a sore thumb from the environment they sit in. Sometimes, it might be possible to go a step further and design buildings that form part of the garden landscaping and which are at least partially earth-sheltered. Partly subterranean, earth-sheltered structure...

Coinbase Sued For Illegal Harvesting Of Biometric Data "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The lawsuit alleges the company collected detailed face maps and fingerprints of customers without consent.

Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase Inc. is facing a class-action lawsuit for allegedly collecting face templates and fingerprints of its customers without their consent, in violation of Illinois' new biometric privacy law.

The suit, which was filed in federal court in San Francisco, claims that Coinbase harvests facial data from IDs and selfies that customers upload.

As reported by Bloomberg, the company also harvests fingerprint data when customers log into their accounts using the required fingerprint scanning technology. The company's collection and storage of this data exposes users to "serious and irreversible privacy risks, according to the lawsuit.

The case highlights the growing concern over data privacy and the need for companies to be transparent about how they collect and use user data, especially sensitive biometric information such as facial recognition and fingerprint data.

As more companies collect and store biometric data, it's likely that lawsuits like this will become more common, underscoring the importance of strong data privacy practices that work to prevent the misappropriation of such sensitive information in the first place.

While Bitcoin is an inherently transparent database, and many of the onramps that are most often used to buy and sell bitcoin require full KYC (Know Your Customer) compliance, there are steps that Bitcoin users can take to minimize leaks of private data.

Vivid Foliage Suspends Xiao Wangs Portraits in Uncanny Tension "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

A woman peers through violet tinged gingko leaves

Portrait, October (2022), oil on canvas, 41 x 54 inches. All images Xiao Wang, shared with permission

Gingko leaves laced with violet, eucalyptus sprigs in blue, and ferns glowing with bright orange veil Xiao Wangs portraits with a sense of subtle unreality. As if illuminated by fluorescent light, the oil paintings depict quiet, introspective, and intimate moments between the artist and subjects, who rest among lush plant life.

In a note to Colossal, Wang shares that he continually strives for both contrast and balance. He has relationships with each person he paints, whether it be friends, his partner, or himself, and their real-life bonds emerge through the unearthly palettes. I want to create an uncanny feeling through distorting natural colors and creating sharp contrast, he shares. Thats why there are so many dark tones against light tones, violet and red against green and blue.

The use of vivid color also energizes the works and adds to the underlying unease and anxiety of the otherwise languid subjects, who appear suspended in daydreams and transitory states. I think Im trying to walk between realism and expressionism, meaning that my work is deeply based on naturalistic observations and oftentimes maximalist technique, but also heightened by expressive colors and surreal settings, he says.

Wang, who was born in China and is currently based in New York, has a solo show slated for July at PM/AM in London, and you can find more of his work and glimpses into his studio on Instagram.

Coinbase Introduces International Exchange In Bid To Expand Beyond U.S. Markets "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The largest cryptocurrency exchange in America is now offering perpetual futures to residents in eligible jurisdictions.

Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has launched Coinbase International Exchange, a move reinforcing the companys hints of increased investment into territories outside the U.S.

The platform aims to enable institutional investors based in eligible jurisdictions outside the U.S. to trade perpetual futures. The exchange, which is settled in USDC, allows for direct access trading via API for institutional clients in eligible, non-U.S. jurisdictions. Coinbase's states that the International Exchange also provides a high standard of customer protection, a robust risk management framework, and high-performance trading technology.

"Building out a global perpetual futures exchange for digital assets will help support an updating of the financial system by making Coinbases trusted products and services more accessible to users of digital assets who live outside of the US," Coinbase said.

The new exchanges BTC perpetual futures contracts offer up to 5x leverage.

First signs of the introduction of an international platform came about in March, when a source cited in a Bloomberg report detailed the possibility of establishing an alternative venue away from the main Coinbase marketplace for global clients.

Not long after, in April, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said that I think if a number of years go by where we dont see regulatory clarity emerge in the U.S., we may have to consider investing more in other regions of the world, potentially hinting at the development of further platforms dedicated to serving those outside of America.

Rest assured that Coinbase is committed to the US, the companys statement says, but countries around the world are increasingly moving forward with responsible crypto-forward regulatory frameworks to strategically position themselves as crypto hubs.

The company, along with various other U.S. cryptocurrency firms, have faced increased scrutiny from American regulators like the SEC and CFTC. The release of Coinbases International Exchange shows that investment in the industry will continue to be attracted to the friendliest jurisdictions.

Curated by Maya Allison (Executive Director of The NYUAD Art Gallery), this exhibition is part of her ongoing study of landscape in contemporary art.

The artists here confront contemporary landscape as a site of profound tension: we change the landscape, and it changes us. Even as we might long for an untouched paradise, humans build futuristic utopias. Utopia and paradise arrive, and then depart (change is the only constant). This tension is fundamental to questions we face as humans on this planet.

Consciousness, Artificial Intelligence, and Our Search for Meaning: Oliver Sacks on ChatGPT, 30 Years Before ChatGPT "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

We read excitedly of the latest chemical, computational, or quantum theory of mind, and then ask, Is that all there is to it?'

The mind is its own place, wrote Milton, and in it self can make a Heavn of Hell, a Hell of Heavn. But in an age when machines can simulate, with the sheer force of computation, mind-things like poems, is the mind still a sovereign place? What heavenly and hellish creations can it alone make that no algorithm can reproduce or mimic?

I read in Miltons words the intimation that the mind makes meaning, and meaning which is different from information, different even from knowledge is uncomputable. Meaning might be the last stalwart of human consciousness in the age of AI the supreme existential yearning irreducible to computation, the great creative restlessness that foments all our poems and our passions.

The poetic neurologist Oliver Sacks (July 9, 1933August 30, 2015) takes up these questions in a prescient April 1993 New York Review of Books essay occasioned by the Nobel-winning neuroscientist Gerald Edelmans book Bright Air, Brilliant Fire: On The Matter Of The Mind but, like every great book review, soaring far beyond the book itself and into the broader questions of consciousness, the nature of the mind, and what it means to be human.

Principal Forced Into Resignation After Michelangelos David Was Shown to Students Gets To See The Real Thing "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The elementary school principal who was forced to quit after she showed a class of sixth grade children photos of Michelangelos David has now had the opportunity to visit Italy and see the original monument.

Hope Carrasquilla was left saddened when she was dismissed from her employment at Tallahassee Classical School in Florida in March. Her dismissal came after an emergency board meeting in response to complaints voiced by parents over the art class lesson.

Students in the sixth grade, who are typically between the ages of 11 and 12, are instructed on the art of the Renaissance. Some of the works that were covered in this topic were Michelangelos sculpture David, the fresco painting Creation of Adam, and Botticellis Birth of Venus.

Carrasquilla said that she, the director of operations, and the art instructor were unable to effectively communicate with one another, which resulted in the parents of the kids not being informed about the content that their children would be studying.

One of the parents who complained about the monument was one who believed it was obscene, while other parents felt the statue was inappropriate for their childrens ages since they claim it was overly sexual.

The news of the scandal went all over the globe once the Principal was removed from her position, including Florence, Italy, where Cecilie Hollberg, the director of the Galleria dellAccademia di Firenze, makes her home. Carrasquilla was invited to Florence by the director of the galleria and the mayor of the city when she lost her job to see the sculpture of David by Michelangelo in person. Why Renaissance Masters Added Egg Yolk to Their Paints: A New Study Sheds Light "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Today we think of the Renaissance as one of those periods when everything changed, and if the best-known artifacts of the time are anything to go by, nothing changed quite so much as art. This is reflected in obvious aesthetic differences between the works of the Renaissance and those created before, as well as in less obvious technical ones. Egg yolk-based tempera paints, for example, had been in use since the time of the ancient Egyptians, but in the fifteenth century they were replaced by oil paints. When chemical analysis of the work of certain Renaissance masters revealed traces of egg, they were assumed to be the result of chance contamination.

Now, thanks to a recent study led by chemical engineer Ophlie Ranquet of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, we have reason to believe that painters like Botticelli and Leonardo kept eggs in the mix deliberately. Oil replaced tempera because it creates more vivid colors and smoother color transitions, writes Smithsonian.coms Teresa Nowakowski.

Netflixs Wednesday became an instant hit when it dropped back in November 2022. While it captured the public's attention as a whole, a particular moment was so memorable that it took on a life of its own: the iconic Wednesday dance from the fourth episode. The quirky choreography went to inspire thousands of tributes and versions across multiple mediums, from a cosplayer nailing the dance to a figure skater presenting a Wednesday-inspired routine on ice. Now, an even more impressive recreation has caught our eye. Unlike the rest we've seen, this one takes place underwater.

Kristina Makushenko is a Miami-based freediver and underwater dancer. While most people associate these talents with synchronized swimming, Makushenko goes beyond, pushing the creative possibilities of choreography below the surface. After posting some seriously impressive routines, her fans called for her to recreate the Wednesday dance. The talented dancer went along with it, displaying her creativity and making the most out of this unique environment in a mesmerizing video. To make it easier for her followers to compare the results, the dancer posted her performance right under a clip of the original.

Since dancing underwater makes movements more fluid than they are on land, Makushenko's choreography looks even more dramatic and volatile than the original. Moreover, the gravity-defying quality of her setting allows the dancer to go deeper and bigger in the parts in which the character's knees are locked. The original dance was already quite theatrical, yet the underw...

A woman of 24 years old was recently diagnosed with cancer after ignoring the strange symptom of constant burping for an extended period of time.

A nurse from Florida named Bailey McBreen, who was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in 2021, found out she had the disease when she began burping ten times a day, which was something she had not given much consideration to in the past.

She struggled with strange symptoms, the most severe of which were stomach pains and acid reflux, which developed over time.

Bailey wasnt worried about her burping at first. Image Credit: Jam Press

Despite the fact that the 24-year-old lived an active, healthy lifestyle that included numerous trips to the gym each week, she was still able to quickly recognize that something was wrong with her body.

I worked out 5-6 times a week consistently for at least 14 months, she says. The first sign something was wrong although I didnt know it at the time was when I began excessively burping.

I would burp 5-10 times a day. This was not normal for me. I actually rarely ever burped before and that is why I noticed how weird it was. But I honestly didnt think too much of it. I never thought it could be linked to such a horrible disease, she added.

After undergoing an unexpected operation in January, Bailey is scheduled to undergo chemotherapy treatments up to the end of August.

On the Augustan Temple of Apollo on the Palatine "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

Propertius II.31

You ask why Ive come to you late? The golden portico
Of Phoebus had been opened by great Caesar.
So great a sight it was divided into by Punic columns
Among them, the daughter-crowd of old Danaus.
Here marble Phoebus seemed to gape in song to the silent lyre
     (More handsome, it seemed to me, than the god himself);
Around the altar stood a herd of Myrons: four
Crafted cows, statues that looked alive.
Then the temple (shining marble) rose in the middle,
Even dearer to Phoebus than Ortygia his homeland:
On which, atop the roof-pole, was the chariot of the Sun,
And doors, a noble work of Libyan ivory
The one mourned Gauls cast down from Parnassus peak,
The other, the deaths of Tantaluss daughter.
Last, the Pythian god, between his mother and sister,

Bringing together 100 wildlife photographers from around the world, 100 For the Ocean is a month-long fundraiser to empower those on the frontlines of ocean conservation and to create a powerful, collective voice to impact policy and drive change. During May, prints featuring Andr Musgroves underwater dives, Dmitry Kokhs atmospheric documentation of polar bears, and Caine Delacys encounters with curious whales are available for purchase, with all proceeds going to research charities.

100 For the Ocean was established by photographers and marine biologists Paul Nicklen and Cristina Mittermeier, founders of SeaLegacy, a visual storytelling and advocacy platform with a mission to restore ocean habitats and reduce pollution in response to the climate crisis. For this special project, the duo collaborated with ...

8% Of Americans Think They Could Beat A Lion In A Fistfight "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

A recent survey conducted by YouGov in 2018 found that 8% of Americans believe they could win a fist fight against a lion in a hand-to-hand combat situation. While this statistic may seem humorous or absurd, it is important to understand the dangers and consequences of such a belief.

Lions are apex predators and are known for their strength, speed, and ferocity. They are powerful animals that have evolved to hunt and kill prey much larger and stronger than themselves. Even trained professionals, such as zookeepers and wildlife experts, do not engage in physical combat with lions, as it is far too dangerous and often deadly.

Believing that a human could defeat a lion in a fistfight is not only unfounded but also dangerous. Attempting to engage in a physical altercation with a lion could result in serious injury or death, not only to the person attempting the fight but also to the lion.

It is important to understand that wild animals are not pets and should be respected and admired from a safe distance. Interacting with them in any way that could put human or animal life at risk is illegal and highly irresponsible.

Furthermore, the belief that humans can overpower and defeat wild animals such as lions can be harmful to conservation efforts. It can promote a sense of false bravado and encourage dangerous behavior toward wildlife, which can ultimately harm ecosystems and wildlife populations.

It is essential to educate the public on the importance of responsible wildlife conservation practices, including respecting animals and their habitats and avoiding dangerous interactions with wildlife.

In conclusion, the belief that a human can defeat a lion in a fistfight is both dangerous and unfounded. Interacting with wild animals in any way that could risk human or animal life is irresponsible and can harm conservation efforts. Educating the public on the importance of responsible wildlife conservation practices to ensure the protection and preservation of wildlife and their habitats is crucial.

You never know what youll find in an antique store. For many, its the thrill of the hunt that entices them; perhaps, in a magical moment, you'll find something thats worth much more than its price tag. This exact thing happened to TikTok star Ophelia Nichols. The 41-year-old influencer shared that she found a wedding dress for $50 when its original tag read $4,819.

I cried when I put this dress in my truck because I would have given anything to have this years ago when I got married, she explained in the video, and I know that it would mean something to one of you. Sure, I could get it cleaned and sell it on eBay for whatever, but no, I want somebody else to have this experience that I didn't get a chance to have.

Nichols then tried on the dress, which is a strapless mermaid-style gown sans any embellishments like beading or lace. Instead, its focus is on high-quality fabri...

Johns Hopkins study shows lockdowns only reduced COVID-19 death rate by .2% "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Lockdowns during the first COVID-19 wave in the spring of 2020 only reduced COVID-19 mortality by .2% in the U.S. and Europe, according to a Johns Hopkins University meta-analysis of several studies. "While this meta-analysis concludes that lockdowns have had little to no public health effects, they have imposed enormous economic and social costs where they have been adopted," the researchers wrote. "In consequence, lockdown policies are ill-founded and should be rejected as a pandemic policy instrument." The researchers Johns Hopkins University economics professor Steve Hanke, Lund University economics professor Lars Jonung, and special advisor at Copenhagen's Center for Political Studies Jonas Herby analyzed the effects of lockdown measures such as school shutdowns, business closures, and mask mandates on COVID-19 deaths. "We find little to no evidence that mandated lockdowns in Europe and the United States had a noticeable effect on COVID-19 mortality rates," the researchers wrote. The researchers also examined shelter-in-place orders, finding that they reduced COVID-19 mortality by 2.9%. Studies that looked at only shelter-in-place orders found they reduced COVID-19 mortality by 5.1%, but studies that looked at shelter-in-place orders along with other lockdown measures found that shelter-in-place orders actually increased COVID-19 mortality by 2.8%. The researchers concluded that limiting gatherings may have actually increased COVID-19 mortality.

Lockdowns in the U.S. and Europe had little or no impact in reducing deaths from COVID-19 "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Lockdowns in the U.S. and Europe had little or no impact in reducing deaths from COVID-19, according to a new analysis by researchers at Johns Hopkins University. The lockdowns during the early phase of the pandemic in 2020 reduced COVID-19 mortality by about 0.2%, said the broad review of multiple scientific studies. "We find no evidence that lockdowns, school closures, border closures, and limiting gatherings have had a noticeable effect on COVID-19 mortality," the researchers wrote. But the research paper said lockdowns did have "devastating effects" on the economy and contributed to numerous social ills. "They have contributed to reducing economic activity, raising unemployment, reducing schooling, causing political unrest, contributing to domestic violence, and undermining liberal democracy," the report said. "Such a standard benefit-cost calculation leads to a strong conclusion: lockdowns should be rejected out of hand as a pandemic policy instrument," the paper concluded. Early on, many states and 186 countries imposed bans on work, socialization, in-person schooling, travel and other restrictions to limit the spread of the disease, citing recommendations by top health care experts. Researchers at the Imperial College London, for example, predicted that such steps could reduce death rates by up to 98%. That never happened, according to the new study by researchers Steve Hanke, Jonas Herby, and Lars Jonung at Johns Hopkins.

Sudan: America and Russia are at it again and WHO seeks to help its donors make money from it "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

BY RHODA WILSON,

Theres more to whats happening in Sudan than meets the eye.  And its time for the world to discuss the truth.

America and Russia are at it again.  Just as they did 60 years ago during the cold war when they fought proxy wars right here in Africa leading to the death of thousands of innocent Africans.  Theyre at it again in Sudan.

These are the words of David John (DJ) Bwakali, a creative writer, social entrepreneur and civil society leader from Kenya.

https://twitter.com/robinmonotti/status/1650419611274297344?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1650419611274297344%7Ctwgr%5E65e2f04533594182c22239fd1dd773ac89ab9757%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fexpose-news.com%2F2023%2F04%2F27%2Fsudan-america-and-russia-are-at-it-again%2F

The US is Heavily Involved in Sudans Renewed Turmoil

Civil wars and coups that erupt in countries like Sudan are rarely superficial or entirely locally-driven events. There are almost always geopolitical interests inserting themselves into internal conflicts because of strategic routes and valuable local resources.

Under Cover DC reported that Sudan gets much of its grain from Ukraine and Russia more than 85 per cent of its wheat comes from those two countries. Almost half the country (about 20 million people), according to the UN, is food insecure. Gold is a major resource in Sudan and is a strategic route to the rest of Africa, according to reporting from Al Jazeera.

And The Last American Vagabond reported that the RSF head, Hemedti, grew in the ranks over the years as a power militia leader and was given free rein to seize lucrative gold mines in Darfur eventually making h...

An Egyptian Vase "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

Photograph by Jago Rackham.

On the top of our fiction bookshelf is an alabaster vase. Its rim is broken. Inside it is a single dried flower, and beside it a faux peach, under a large bell jar. The vase is Egyptian and three thousand years old. I broke its rim a few years ago. Each time I reach for a novel I am reminded of the power of carelessness to undo eons of completeness.

At thirteen I was sent to Los school. Lo is my fiance. We have been engaged since we were twenty-one and we are now both approaching our thirties. We got together soon after I joined the school and have been near constantly in one anothers presence since then. Like a medieval romancesomewhat creepy, somewhat sweet.

The school was in a Georgian townhouse at the top of the high street in Ashburton. Ashburton sits on the side of Dartmoor, the region where The Hound of the Baskervilles is set, and its round-shouldered moorlands hedge the towns northern views. It feels held and contained. In my memory it is always cloudy, near raining, about to break. On the other side of the town is the Exeter Inn, where in 1603 Sir Walter Raleigh was arrested by new King Jamess men in 1603, and from there taken to the Tower of London.

I remember long lessons, febrile minds, and a semiorganized chaos, true anarchism. But mostly I remember skipping school with Lo to walk around Ashburton and visit antique dealers. Antique dealers use their hands a lot, picking things up and looking at their undersides. The underside of a thinga vase, sayholds ciphers in the form of marks, of the maker, of the metal, of the date. Secrets in the tops of nails and tacks, the way wood is joined, seams, things that reveal a great deal: fakery, trickery, or surprising authenticity. I began to mimic this looking and holding, the firm grasp on stone or fired clay, and the mimicry turned eventually to something approaching knowledge of the informal kind.

Is It Ever A Good Idea To Embarrass A Partners Family At Dinner? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Dating is a minefield of opportunities that can go wrong any number of ways. I feel like meeting your partners family is definitely a big one, with multiple ways to screw it up.

This guy is crazy about his girlfriend, and thought he knew what to expect from meeting her family after she warned them the guys were into macho displays that they claim came from their Italian ancestry.

Recently I started dating a girl. Shes great and I love her so much. I met her family a few nights ago for dinner. She warned me that the male side of her family is very big into being macho, into testing the boys the women date and are VERY big on taking pride in their Italian ancestry.

OP spent 3 years in Italy as a child and still speaks semi-fluently, but the girlfriends family are all from the States, excepting one grandfather.

Backstory: due to my dads job we lived in Italy for 3 years when I was younger, so I speak Italian almost fluently (its been awhile, so Ive lost some of it).

I think besides the grandfather, however, they were almost all born in Bergen County, NJ but whatever, its nice to take pride in ones heritage.

Well, the meal went about as hed expected only worse, with one brother in particular going on and on without stopping, because hes Italian.

Long story short at dinner they kept making jokes at my expense (I honestly would not call it bullying, just things about my height, beard, shaved head). They tried making fun of my IT job too but stopped once I told them my income. It was overall not a bad experience, but a not so pleasant one.

Anyways, her older brother kept pushing things, giving me exceptional amounts of shit for playing Lacrosse in HS (apparently its a sport for prissy rich kids and not m...

If we dont pause A.I., CHINA WILL WIN. Heres why. "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

Some believe that its impossible to pause developments in artificial intelligence (A.I.), because if America puts it on hold, well lose the technological race to other nations like China. But thats NOT the case, Glenn says. In fact, if America doesnt pause AI, Glenn explains, then China will likely WIN.
