I was inspired to make this project because I love to garden but have neuropathy in my extremities making it very difficult to get off the ground once there. I have made myself 6 of these and am so pleased that I thought I'd share the pattern. Perfect cuts are unnecessary as long as you are within 1/4 inch you will be okay.

Coinbase And Ripple CLOs Meet, Will XRP Listing Follow? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

A new tweet by Coinbase Chief Legal Officer (CLO) Paul Grewal has sparked interest and speculations in the crypto community. The CLO expressed his appreciation to Ripples General Counsel, Stuart Alderoty, for their meeting, stating they needed to meet more often.

In response, Stuart Alderoty thanked him for chatting with their legal team. After the tweet, two top lawyers in the community supported the strategic meeting, and some others called on Coinbase to relist XRP on its marketplace.

Ripple And Coinbase OfficlainsLeading The Battle, Deaton

One of the notable reactions to the meeting between Ripple and Coinbase CLOs came from CryptoLaw founder John Deaton.

Deaton is the attorney representing thousands of XRP holders. His response to the tweet was that the picture shows two valiant General Counsels leading the front line in battle. Further, Deaton wrote that he tipped his cap to Alderoty and Grewal to express his respect.

By saying frontline in battle, Attorney Deaton reiterates his position that the crypto industry is battling with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Notably, the attorney shared a tweet to that effect in March, calling every stakeholder in the industry to meet and share strategic ideas to win the war.

Following the recent tweet, the two firms battling SECs lawsuit may have listened to Deatons suggestion.

Another prominent figure that responded to the recent development was the Australian-based lawyer Bill Morgan. The lawyer stated that teamwork against a common foe is the best strategy to win.

However, Morgan further said he doesnt regard Coinbase as a friend of XRP holders as it ceased secondary market trading in its exchange.

Crypto Users Call For XRP Relisting

Other responses following the recent tweet were calls for Coinbase to relist XRP. A Twitter user going by Jon Mann, who responded, asked Coinbase to relist XRP, stating that the meeting is the tag team the Ripple community has been waiting to see.

Unraveling the Mystery Behind the Worlds Most Iconic Structures

Dive into the fascinating world of Ancient Egyptian pyramids, and discover the architectural innovations and enigmas that surround these monumental testaments to human ingenuity.

The Majestic Pyramids: An Age-Old Mystery

For millennia, the awe-inspiring pyramids have captivated human imagination. Though their exact purpose remains disputed, they are believed to serve as religious temples and tombs for ancient civilizations.

Egypts Controversial Pyramid Purpose

While Egyptologists claim that Egyptian pyramids were exclusively tombs, the existence of provincial pyramids challenges this notion, suggesting that not all pyramids served as burial sites.

Provincial Pyramids: Enigmatic Structures

Egypts eight provincial pyramids continue to perplex scholars, who argue that these smaller structures were exceptions, possibly serving as cult pyramids where people paid homage to rulers and gods.

Djosers Step Pyramid: A Monumental Leap in Architecture

Built by the architect Imhotep, the Step Pyramid marked a revolution in ancient Egyptian architecture, introducing the first large-scale cut stone construction and inspiring future pyramid designs.

From Mastabas to Step Pyramid

The transformation from mastabas to the Step Pyramid highlights the architectural innovations of ancient Egypt, with Imhotep likely starting Djosers pyramid as a square mastaba before evolving it into a stepped structure.

Sneferu: Egypts Greatest Pyramid Builder

Sneferu, the founding pharaoh of the Fourth Dynasty, revolutionized pyramid-building methods, constructing the Bent Pyramid, the Red Pyramid, and the Meidum pyramid, laying the groundwork for the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Cardano (ADA) Price Plunges As Bears Try To Over "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Cardano (ADA) is trading below yesterdays closing price as it exhibits price volatility. This price drop comes despite the fact that its trading volume increased by over 26% in the last 24 hours.

ADA has now lost its earlier gains in the past week, dropping from $0.4028 on April 29, 2023, to $0.3974 on April 30. Currently, it is trading in the $0.3926 range. Its past price behavior suggests it will likely recover from the bearish trend.

Fortunately, Cardano retains most of its gains in 2023, moving from $0.248 on January 1, 2023, to its current price of $0.3922 at press time.

ADA Price Analysis

ADA is experiencing price volatility today, forming a red candle on the daily chart. The Relative Strength Index is at 47.41 and reflects price neutrality as the bulls and bears battle for control.

Also, ADAs Moving Average Convergence/Divergence (MACD) is below its signal line and shows a negative value. The MACD indicator hints at a possible price drop ahead for the asset since the bears are still active in the market.

However, ADA is still above its 50-day and 200-day Simple Moving Averages (SMA), a bullish sentiment for the short and long term. The 50-day SMA has correlated with a support level sustaining ADA for the last three days.

Nigerias Federal Executive Council Approves Blockchain Policy "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The Nigerian government has just approved a blockchain policy that will facilitate the development of a regulatory framework for the technology. The approval occurred in a May 3 Federal Executive Council meeting.

Blockchain Adoption Could Impact The Economy Positively

Notably, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim, had presented a memo about the regulatory framework earlier.

While announcing the approval, the FMCDE cited a PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) report predicting the increasing blockchain adoption and how it will boost the global gross domestic product by 2030. It noted that the global GDP could gain an additional $1.76 trillion from various industries representing about 1.4% of the worlds GDP.

In October 2020, the country released a draft of the blockchain adoption strategy. The document mentioned decentralized ledger and blockchain technology would support the growth of the Nigerian digital economy.

The FMCDE developed the national policy by consulting stakeholders in the private and public sectors. The creation of the policy conforms to the seventh pillar of the national digital economy policy and strategy, with the major focus of the policy being on growing global innovative technologies and digital society.

Blockchain

Importance Of The New National Policy

The main purpose of the new policy is to create a  blockchain-based economy suitable for digital activities in the country. It will ensure secure transactions, value exchange, and data sharing among individuals, companies, and the government. Also, the policy will impact the public and private sectors in the country positively.

Blockchain adoption strategy in Nigeria cuts across several pathways and initiatives. These include the establishment of a consortium for blockchain, fostering digital identity, and developing a national blockchain sandbox for piloting and testing.

Also, the strategy will involve the creation of blockchain business incentive programs, advancing digital awareness and literacy of blockchain technology, and building a robust regulatory and legal framework....

A Letter from Henry Miller "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

Around the time he published some of his mostly famous worksTropic of Cancer, Black Spring, and Tropic of Capricorn, to name a fewHenry Miller handwrote and illustrated six known long intimate book letters to his friends, including Anas Nin, Lawrence Durrell, and Emil Schnellock. Three of these were published during his lifetime; two posthumously; and one, dedicated to a David Forrester Edgar (19071979), was unaccounted for, both unpublished and privately helduntil recently, when it came into the possession of the New York Public Library.

On March 17, 1937, Miller opened a printers dummya blank mock-up of a book used by printers to test how the final product will look and feeland penned the first twenty-three pages of a text written expressly to and for a young American expatriate who had haphazardly led him to explore entirely new avenues of thought, including the secrets of the Bhagavad Gita, the occult writings of Mme Blavatsky, the spirit of Zen, and the doctrines of Rudolf Steiner. He called it The Book of Conversations with David Edgar. Over the next six and a half weeks, Miller added eight more dated entries, as well as two small watercolors and a pen-and-ink sketch. The result was something more than personal correspondence and less than an accomplished narrative work: a hybrid form of literary prose we might call the book-letter. As far as we know, Miller never sought to have the book published, and the only extant copy of the text is the original manuscript now held by the Berg Collection at the NYPL.

Miller had come to Paris in 1930 or 1931, ostensibly to paint. Edgar probably met Miller sometime during the first half of 1936. At twenty-nine, he was fifteen years Millers junior. Edgar soon joined the coterie of writers and artists who congregated around Millers studio at 18 villa Seurat. His interest in Zen Buddhism, mysticism, Theosophy, and the occult apparently helped energize Miller to embark on his own spiritual pilgrimage, and to articulate what he discovered there in his writing. I feel I have never lived on the same level I write from, except with you and now with E...

Robert Irwin Recreates Childhood Photo of Him and His Late Father Steve Irwin "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Robert Irwin Recreates Childhood Photo of Him and His Late Father Steve Irwin

Robert Irwin Recreates Childhood Photo

Photo: Robert Irwin

Looking back at old photos can remind us of fond memories as well as stir up many emotions. Robert Irwin recently shared a carousel of pictures on his Instagram, one of which shows him as a toddler sitting on his late father Steve Irwins lap in an old utility vehicle. Although it has been 17 years since Steve's passing, the nostalgic car was never sold, as Robert recreates the precious photo as a grown young man without his father in the next slide.

The 19-year-old conservationist has a deep attachment to Steve's old car, fondly called ute as an abbreviation for a utility vehicle. My dad's uteit's a special car. From early memories when Dad would park and let me pretend to drive, to more recently when I took my driver's test in it (and somehow managed not to stall it), he says. I remember my first solo drive in this car after I got my licenseit was to the hospital to meet my niece for the first time, right after she was born. And now, the ute still comes on road trips to this day

When viewed side by side, these photos are deeply emotional. In one, Robert is just 2 years oldthe same age he was when Irwin diedand happily joined by his father. However, the more recent picture has a more stoic quality, because it highlights just how much Robert has grown up without Steve's presence. Irwin's wife Terri says, I know Steve would be incredibly proud, now that Robert has his L plates, and is driving Steve's old ute. The beloved vehicle has special significance not only to him but also to his sister Bindi as both siblings used the car for their driver's tests. Ap...

Photography is often touted as one of the most accessible and democratic mediums, making it a prime choice for those with little institutional support or access to funding. A new book edited by Luce Lebart and Marie Robert and published by Thames & Hudson explores the work of more than 300 women, many of whom were underrecognized during their lifetimes, and all of whose practices centered around the camera.

Recently translated from French by Ruth Taylor and Bethany Wright, the hefty A World History of Women Photographers is a corrective encyclopedia highlighting those with outsized impacts on the medium. The 504-page book pairs hundreds of images with text by an international roster of 160 women writers, granting similar space to each photographer and unearthing a chronically undervalued group. With this collection of artists, it is not so much a matter of producing a counter-narrative or of deconstructing histories that already exist but of completing them. We have no desire to burn idols or topple statues, only to erect new ones, and to create a narrative that is richer and more fair, the editors write in the introduction. In other words, there is an urgent need to write <em>another history</em>, and to write it <em>differently</em>.</p> <p> </p> <div class="wp-caption alignnone" id="attachment_230434" style= "width: 2010px;">...</div>

Bitcoin Up After Fed Rate Reveal, Correlation With Stocks Over? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Bitcoin has surged above the $29,000 mark following the Fed rate hike of 25 bps, a sign that the asset may be decoupling from the stocks.

Bitcoin Has Jumped Despite Fed Interest Rate Hike Announcement

According to the on-chain analytics firm Santiment, the cryptocurrency market has shown some promising rise potential since the rate hike announcement has gone live.

In the past year, the US Federal Reserve System (Fed) interest rate hikes have generally been met with panic in the market, as coins like Bitcoin and Ethereum have suffered significant hits to their prices following them.

This has been because the sector has experienced a high correlation with the US stocks during this period, meaning that the prices of the assets in the two sectors have been moving in a similar fashion.

Recently, however, things have been changing for the better, as the cryptocurrency and stock markets have become increasingly separated. The initial reaction in the prices of assets like Bitcoin and Ethereum to the latest announcement has also been a positive indication of this.

Here is the comparison between BTC, ETH, and S&P 500 that Santiment posted one hour after the FOMC meeting:

Bitcoin vs Ethereum vs S&P 500

As displayed in the above graph, S&P 500 fell shortly after the rate hike, while BTC and ETH remained steady, showing the disconnection between the two sectors.

Both Bitcoin and Ethereum have risen in the hours since then, breaking the $29,000 and $1,900 levels, respectively. This could be a sign that investors are at ease now that the meeting is behind them.

At least for now, it seems that the initial reaction to this interest rate hike was: At least its over with now. Crypto no longer needs to worry about fiscal policy until June, notes Santiment.

On-chain data also shows that the trading volumes of the top cryptocurrencies by market cap have trended up since the meeting, an indication that activity has been increasing in the sector.

Another indicator, the active addresses, which measures the daily total number of unique addresses that are taking part in some transaction activity on...

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. To Make First Appearance As U.S. Presidential Candidate At Bitcoin 2023 "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Bitcoin 2023 will host Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who recently defended Bitcoin mining after the Biden Administration proposed a 30% tax on its energy usage.

Disclaimer: BTC Inc. owns both The Bitcoin Conference and Bitcoin Magazine.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is set to make his first appearance as a U.S. Presidential candidate at the Bitcoin 2023 conference in Miami, happening May 18-20. In a recent statement, Kennedy expressed his support for Bitcoin and denounced President Biden's proposed 30% tax on cryptocurrency mining, stating that it is a mistake for the U.S. government to stifle innovation in the industry.

Kennedy also addressed concerns over the environmental impact of Bitcoin mining, stating that the energy usage argument is overstated and that Bitcoin mining consumes about the same amount of energy as video games. He believes that the environmental argument is being used as a pretext to suppress anything that threatens elite power structures, including Bitcoin.

In addition, Kennedy has argued that tight control of cryptocurrencies to prevent their use by criminals is not the solution. He pointed out that dissidents and ordinary citizens also need privacy and that governments often control bank accounts and payment platforms to crush dissent. Kennedy believes that until trust is restored in government, cash and bitcoin are needed to ensure freedom.

Kennedy also spoke about the importance of having a diverse ecology of currencies, rather than just a single, centrally controlled one. He believes that just as a biodiverse ecosystem is more resilient, so too will our economy be more resilient with a diversity of currencies.

Previously, Kennedy had said that there "is a misunderstanding" from critics who claim Bitcoin's energy usage is a bad thing, and that Americans need Bitcoin "to ensure freedom."

Kennedy's support for Bitcoin and his appearance at the Bitcoin 2023 conference will likely garner attention from Bitcoin enthusiasts and the media alike. As a presidential candidate, his views on Bitcoin and its role in our economy will be closely watched in the c...

Mattel Releases Anna May Wong Barbie Doll To Celebrate AAPI Heritage Month

Just in time to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Mattel has announced a new Barbie doll honoring Anna May Wong. A trailblazing movie star from the first half of the 20th century, Wong is widely considered to be the first Chinese American female actor in Hollywood.

The Anna May Wong doll is part of the Barbie Inspiring Women series, which has immortalized other cultural icons such as Maya Angelou, Rosa Parks, and Sally Ride. As the first Asian American actor to lead a U.S. television show, whose perseverance broke down barriers for her gender and AAPI community in film and TV, Anna May Wong is the perfect fit for our Barbie Inspiring Women Series, said Mattel's executive vice president, Lisa McKnight.

Mattel worked closely with Anna Wong, the actor's niece, to develop the doll's look. I did not hesitate at all. It was such an honor and so exciting, she told AP News. I wanted to make sure they got her facial features and clothing correct. And they did! Wongs niece added that she had a Barbie growing up, so she loves the idea of Asian children having a doll who looks like them.

Designed by Carlyle Nuera, the new Barbie doll features Wongs signature blunt bangs and pencil-thin eyebrows, as well as red lipstick and dramatic eye makeup. She is dressed in a red evening gown with a golden dragon design and a long sheer shawl, along with golden earrings and heels. Her elegant outfit is inspired by her appearance in Limehouse Blues (1934).

Shiba Inu Burn Rate Explodes 31,000% Will Price Heat Up As Well? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Shiba Inu (SHIB) has seen its burn rate skyrocket to impressive heights. This incredible surge in burn rate is causing many to speculate that a price reversal may be on the horizon, as the tokens value continues to experience significant volatility.

As the burn rate of Shiba Inu continues to soar, the cryptocurrencys fate remains uncertain, leaving investors and enthusiasts alike wondering what the future holds for this meme-inspired token.

Will Shiba Inu be able to maintain its momentum and reach new heights, or will the current volatility lead to a dramatic price u-turn?

Shiba Inu Burn Rate Climbs, Signaling Potential For Price Reversal

Shiba Inu, the popular cryptocurrency inspired by the Shiba Inu dog breed, has experienced an astonishing 30,940% surge in burn rate at the time of writing, according to Shibburns data at the time of writing.

But what exactly does burn rate mean in the context of cryptocurrencies?

In simple terms, the burn rate refers to the amount of tokens that are permanently removed from circulation. When a cryptocurrency burns tokens, they are essentially destroyed, which can have the effect of increasing the value of the remaining tokens.

In the case of Shiba Inu, the massive surge in burn rate is an indication that more tokens are being removed from circulation than ever before, which could potentially lead to a supply shortage and a subsequent increase in value.

Based on the data presented, the Shiba Inu ecosystem is experiencing exponential growth in the number of total transactions, resulting in a significant transfer of 2,254,093,318 SHIB tokens to inactive or dead wallets overnight.

The sudden transfer of tokens to dead wallets is believed to be a response to the rapid surge in transaction activity within the ecosystem.

The data highlights two specific addresses that were responsible for a large portion of the transaction volume. One address was used to burn 2,005,265,274 SHIB tokens, effectively removing them from circulation permanently.

The other address burnt 246,743,138 SHIB tokens, contributing to the overall reduction in circulating supply.

Where Shiba Inu Stands Right Now

At the time of writing, the price of SHIB on CoinMarketCap stands at $0.00001005, with a 24-hour rally of 0.83%, while experiencing a decline of 2.37% over the last seven days.

Despite the massive surge in the burn rate of Shiba Inu tokens, the price of SHIB has shown little movement.

Bitcoin Rips Above $29,000, But Why Is The Mean Transaction Size At A 3-Year Low? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Bitcoin prices might be firmer when writing on May 4, rallying above $29,000 and breaking above local resistance levels in lower time frames. But the Mean Transaction Size, based on the 7-day moving average, is at a 3-year low, according to Glassnode, a blockchain analytics firm.

Bitcoins Mean Transaction Size Crashing

The Mean Transaction Size relays the average transaction size over a given period. It can be used as a lead to gauge the level of activity. Typically, the higher the demand for BTC, the better the prices.

Bitcoin Price On May 4| Source: BTCUSDT On Binance, TradingView

Considering the decentralized nature of public networks, including Bitcoin, transactions are packed in blocks before being confirmed and added to the longest chain.

The size of each Bitcoin block is fixed at 1 MB; therefore, the number of transactions that can be packed in a block directly depends on the size of each transaction. On average, BTC transactions can be between 300 and 400 bytes. Coupled with the set transaction processing time of roughly 10 minutes, transaction sizes, and by extension, the block size cap, directly impacts the networks throughput.

A notable observation is that the mean transaction size in Bitcoin has been rapidly falling over the past few weeks. There was a sharp expansion from late January 2023 when the mean transaction size rose from around 590 to 1,195 in mid-February.

It then see-sawed in the following weeks, falling from 1,192 in late March to 820 in early April. It crashed to 467.949 on May 2, the lowest in three years.

These People Know They Chose Professions People Love To Loathe "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

It takes all sorts to make the world go round, and that includes a wide range of professional pursuits. Even though a job might not be for you or you loathe the idea of anyone else doing it the fact is, it has to get done.

And these people say that folks are generally happy they exist once they truly need their services.

Everyone hates the dentist.

Im a dentist for kids. I am hated by parents and children. I had only a few fillings done as a child, and it was fine. But I didnt realize how much fear and anxiety was in the world for dentists. I wears you down after a while, and a lot of dentists get burned out because no one appreciates you and how hard of a job it is.

You kind of have to give no fucks at a certain point because people need you, but then you have to hear shit like, Hey good thing Im getting this filling today, so you can make your boat payment. when in actuality, you are getting paid $182 for that filling on a child while the mother is crying in the corner in worry, which barely pays the overhead of running a practice, while you have $500,000 in student loans. You do a good job, and then the parent says, Lets get out of this horrible place.

Adults say to me, I hate the dentist. and I say, well, I am a pretty nice person. and then they say, Oh not you, just I hate everything you do.

The world is less tolerant of discomfort, and I think dentists need to use more sedation for treatment. But then people wont want to pay $500 for it. so..they will still hate us.

Dogecoin Next Big Hurdle: Barreling Past $0.50 Mark In 2023 "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Dogecoin (DOGE) is now making serious waves in the investment world as the potential for its value to reach $0.50 in 2023 becomes a hot topic of discussion among crypto enthusiasts and investors alike.

Despite its humble beginnings, Dogecoins popularity continues to soar, and its recent performance has caught the attention of many who are eagerly watching to see if this cryptocurrency can continue its meteoric rise.

Lets delve into the realm of Dogecoin and examine the route it would take to attain this significant achievement.

From Internet Meme To Investment Sensation

Dogecoin started off as a joke in 2013. But little did anyone know that it would become a phenomenon in the world of cryptocurrencies. Created by two software engineers, Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer, the coins logo was inspired by the popular internet meme of a Shiba Inu dog.

Initially, Dogecoin was nothing more than a fun project for Markus and Palmer, but the coins popularity skyrocketed when Tesla, SpaceX, and now Twitter CEO Elon Musk tweeted about it in 2020. Musks tweet sent Dogecoins value soaring, and it has since become one of the most talked-about cryptocurrencies in the market.

In fact, Musk has been a significant factor in the rise of Dogecoins value. His tweets about the coin have caused significant fluctuations in its value, and he even referred to himself as the Dogefather during his appearance on Saturday Night Live.

Despite its origins as a joke, Dogecoin has become a legitimate investment option for many people.

Is The Moon Within Reach For Dogecoin In 2023?

As we look ahead to the future of Dogecoin, many are wondering if the cryptocurrency will reach the much-hyped milestone of half a dollar in 2023. While its impossible to predict the future of any investment, Dogecoin has already defied expectations and become a legitimate player in the world of cryptocurrencies.

Dogecoins value continues to hold steady, with the cryptocurrency trading at $0.07941 according to CoinMarketCap. Despite a small 1.13% rally in the past 24 hours, Dogecoin has seen a slight 0.48% dip over the past seven days.

IN-DEPTH: US Officials Reject Compensation for People Diagnosed With COVID-19 Vaccine Injuries "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

U.S. authorities rejected multiple people who sought compensation for COVID-19 vaccine injuries, despite diagnoses from doctors, documents show. Letters from U.S. officials reviewed by The Epoch Times show officials contradicting doctors who treated patients as they turned down requests for payment.
Cody Flint, an agricultural pilot, was diagnosed by four doctors with a severe adverse reaction to Pfizers COVID-19 vaccine. Shortly after being vaccinated, Flint experienced intense head pressure, which led to problems such as perilymphatic fistula, the doctors said. Flint sent a slew of medical files, including evidence of the diagnoses, to the U.S. Countermeasures Injury Compensation Program (CICP), which compensates people who prove they were injured by a COVID-19 shot. But administrators for the program rejected Flints application in a denial letter, saying they did not find the requisite evidence that the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination caused the conditions from which he suffers. Flint, in his 30s, felt his first symptoms within an hour of vaccination. An onslaught of severe symptoms followed while he was flying two days later. One second I went from having burning in the back of my neck and tunnel vision to the very next second I was slumped over in my airplane. The best way I know to describe it, it was like a bomb went off inside my head, Flint said. CICP administrators told him that compelling, reliable and valid medical and scientific evidence does not support a causal association between the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine and benign paroxy...

Meme Coin PEPE Hits New All-Time High As Shorts Get Rekt "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The incredible price rally of the meme coin PEPE continues. According to Coingecko data, the frog token has risen to become the third most popular meme coin, behind Dogecoin (DOGE) and Shiba Inu (SHIB), with a market cap now at $688.5 million, leaving FLOKI behind. In the ranking of all cryptocurrencies, PEPE is now ranked #73, while FLOKI is ranked #123 ($332.5 million market cap).

Remarkably, PEPE initially retreated to $0.0000008383 yesterday, but since then the price has skyrocketed more than 112% at times, hitting a new all-time high at $0.000001794. The brutal price move is likely due to a short squeeze, as tweeted by the data tracking platform Laevitas.

Funding rates are a measure of the payments that futures traders have to make to keep their positions open. If the funding rate is negative, it means that traders with short positions are required to pay the funding rate to traders with long positions. The opposite is true for positive funding rates.

PEPEs funding rates were extremely negative before the short squeeze. This means that short positions were dominant, which showed the dominance of bearish positions in the derivatives market. Meanwhile, the spot market was strong.

Often, however, the market tends to do the unexpected. When the overwhelming majority is bearish, it is easy to wipe out liquidity, especially for larger players or market makers. This is especially valid for smaller coins with low liquidity and a comparably small user base. PEPE still only has 80,000 total addresses.

Trader @htltimor added that some shorts are being chased like theres no tomorrow. Its fun (and was extremely predictable), says the trader, who shared the chart below and shared another piece of advice:

You can *sometimes* try the stochastic < 20 on new coins in a lower TF (i.e. 1h) and if it coincides with RSI oversold and logical levels and patterns and volume profile, you can take a punt. Did not do that myself, as I dont trade meme coins.

Bitcoin Doesnt Care About Progressives, But You Should "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Bitcoin adoption is inevitable in the long run, but putting political division aside and building a broad coalition will shorten that path.

This is an opinion editorial by Jason Maier, a teacher and author of A Progressives Case For Bitcoin. Disclaimer: This book was published by Bitcoin Magazine.

Does Bitcoin need progressives?

The simple answer to this question is no, Bitcoin doesnt need progressives. We can all quote the memes by heart: Bitcoin doesnt care. Tick tock, next block. Bitcoin is inevitable. Bitcoin cant be regulated. I believe each of these mottos are true, in their own ways, in the long term. But recently, I have devoted a lot of energy to answering the converse of this question, namely: Do progressives need Bitcoin?

My book answers this more intricate question thoroughly in the affirmative. And while its easy to conclude, with confidence, that Bitcoin doesnt need progressives, it might be interesting to consider why you should care at all that Im on a mission to orange pill as many progressive liberals as I can. Its true that Bitcoin doesnt care. But I think you should.

Shortening The Long Run

As clear as it is to me that Bitcoin will ultimately succeed, it is also clear that the support of liberals and those on the left of the political spectrum, while not an absolute necessity, is important nonetheless. Even if Bitcoin is inevitable in the long run, there is an awful lot of time between now and the end of that long run. That time can be filled with growing adoption, innovation and promoting freedom money across the planet. Or that time can be filled with political fighting at every level of every government across the globe. Plenty of people reading this may not care, or they may even welcome the fighting. But in the long run, Ill be dead and the world would be a better place if more people understood and used Satoshi Nakamotos innovation before my stack of corn gets passed along to my children.

There are Bitcoiners who do not align with me politically, but nonetheless support my work. These folks like to remind me that Bitcoin is money for enemies. This is not only true, but actually an important property of all good money. Furthermore, it is also critical to remember that, in this narrow sense, no Bitcoiner is your enemy, regardless of how they align themselves within the lega...

If you see a pie chart projected twelve feet high in front of you, you know youre in the hands of an idiot. These words have stuck with me since I heard them spoken by Edward Tufte, one of the most respected living authorities on data visualization. Yet the pie chart was created by a master, indeed the first master, of information design, the late-eighteenth- and early-nineteenth-century Scottish economist William Playfair. Tufte includes Playfairs first pie chart, an illustration of the land holdings of various nations and empires circa 1800, in his book The Visual Display of Quantitative Information.

Why Is Bitcoin And Crypto Up Today? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The Bitcoin and crypto markets are up today, despite the fact that the initial reaction to yesterdays FOMC of the US Federal Reserve (Fed) was rather bearish. During the meeting, the Bitcoin price dropped from $28,800 to $28,250 as the market reacted to the extremely hawkish comments made by Jerome Powell.

The Fed Chairman avoided confirming that yesterdays rate hike was the last one in this cycle, despite multiple requests from journalists. He also stressed that there is no room for rate cuts this year in the Feds current scenarios. On the other hand, in its rate hike statement, the Fed omitted the earlier remarks that announced further hikes.

Why Is Bitcoin And Crypto Up Today?

The fact that Bitcoin and the broader crypto market are rising today is likely due to the fact that despite all of Powells efforts, the market is expecting a pivot, that is, a pause in rate hikes at the next FOMC meeting on June 14.

The reason: In March, the majority of FOMC participants said that the final rate for this tightening cycle would be between 5% and 5.25%, which is exactly where the fed funds rate arrived yesterday. The CMEs FedWatch tool shows that an overwhelming 99.2% currently expect a pause in June.

More than 85% expect the first rate cut as early as September. In total, the market currently expects at least three rate cuts (to 4.25 to 4.5 basis points) by year-end.

And even JP Morgans Davis believes that this is definitely the end of the hiking cycle for the Fed. The representative of the largest U.S. bank by deposits also believes a Fed rate cut could come as early as September.

The projections are extremely bullish for Bitcoin and crypto, as risk assets traditionally benefit the most from a dovish monetary policy as more liquidity is pumped into the financial system. On the other hand, Bitcoin investors may have once again reacted to the deepening banking crisis in the US.

As with the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank and First Republic Bank, BTC saw a spike yesterday as Los Angeles-based PacWest (PACW) crashed by around 60% in after-hours trading. The regional bank is rumored to be lookin...

How Social Media Giants Turn a Blind Eye to Hindu Nationalist Hate Speech "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Months after cow vigilante and Hindu nationalist influencer Monu Manesar became notorious on social media after being accused of murder and posting his exploits against cow traders and smugglers, another Hindu nationalist figure went from obscurity to superstar-like fame, thanks to social media giants frequently ignoring their own moderation rules and community guidelines.

Kajal Shingala, or Kajal Hindustani as shes popularly known, rose to prominence among Hindutva (Hindu nationalist) circles because of her inflammatory content against Muslims and critics of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Despite having no connections with the BJP, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), or other right-wing Hindu nationalist groups, the businesswoman and mother of two managed to rise and become many of Hindutvas rising stars after building her social media presence back in 2016.

Shingala, who called herself the lioness of Gujarat, began her online (and subsequently offline) activities when she learned about an incident in 2016 when student activists at the Jawaharlal Nehru University commemorated the death of Afzal Guru, a Kashmiri separatist and terror convict who was arrested for his role in the 2001 attacks against the Indian Parliament. Outrage in Pakistan: Two Muslim Clerics Arrested for Raping 10-Year-Old Boy "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Officials in Pakistan announced on April 30th that police arrested two Muslim clerics for allegedly raping a 10-year-old boy in a religious school east of the countrys Punjab province.

Khanewal district police spokesperson Chaudhry Imran reported that the sexual abuse occurred on April 29th, when the boys uncle arrived at his nephews school to visit him, only to find that a cleric was raping him in the schools side room while another cleric waited for his turn.

The uncle filed a report against the two Muslim clerics, accusing them of sexually abusing his 10-year-old nephew in the seminary where he had been studying since last year.

Imran said police arrested the two clerics after an initial investigation. He also said the boy was sent to the local hospital, where he was treated for physical injuries and trauma.

The identities of the two suspects were not revealed. Police also did not allow reporters to seek comment regarding the two clerics, mentioning an ongoing investigation. However, authorities said the two suspects had not found legal representation yet.

Despite child sex abuse being rampant throughout Pakistans religious schools, complaints filed by parents and relatives of their victims rarely result in an arrest of the accused religious clerics.

The benefits of midwifery care "IndyWatch Feed Fertility"

Numerous studies show that the benefits of midwifery care are significant. Care given by autonomous midwives consistently leads to better outcomes than care given by doctors (obstetricians). The benefits include lower stillbirth rates, less chance of preterm birth and baby loss, a lower chance of problems for both mum and baby and improvements in many other important outcomes.

The benefits of midwifery care can be seen throughout the world and over time.

For years, I blogged about individual studies on this topic. We have now brought together summaries of the research that Ive looked at into this one post, which details many of the studies carried out in this area. Click any of the links to see the original studies.

What Would You Do With 24 Usable Hours In Every Day? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

We always make a big deal about all of the things we would accomplish if we could use all 24 hours in every day, as if the need to sleep is really the thing that keeps us from being more productive.

So, what do we think would we do with the extra time, if we could feel totally rested without sleep? These people have some pretty grand ideas!

You wont be able to fool everyone.

Haha oh man, the OP is so unrealistic.

If we could take a pill that rested us, wed have another 8 hours in our day for employers to exploit. Wed be expected to work 12-16 hours since we dont need sleep anymore places would staff less people because they could just make their crew work all three shifts.

Anyone who thinks Yeahhh! Bonus time :D Is incredibly naive. If this ever came to pass, all that would happen is the working class would be expected to work even more for less.

Well, you can work for 12-16 hrs a day now, so obviously we dont need to increase minimum wage you can simply work more hours if you want food and shelter!

There are other things to consider.

Sleep.

How else am I supposed to hide from my depression?

Weve already thought of that.

Heres a webcomic about an entire society that starts talking that pill. Society stretches the work day out to 18 or 20 hours, often of meaningless stuff.

The main character is allergic to the pills, and needs to sleep, so its considered a disability that he can only work 16 hours a day. Theres a bunch of other side effects.

Sad, but probably real.

Wondering About A Four Day Work Week? These Folks Have Some Interesting Thoughts. "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Companies all over the world are looking for ways to cut costs and make their employees happier at the same time and one idea that keeps getting tossed around is the idea of a four-day work week.

There are studies being done, but in the meantime, what do regular people think about the idea? Lets find out!

Life would be better.

Life would be that much better. I would have somewhere around 50 extra days a year to do all the yard work and home projects that I dont want to spend all weekend doing.

More time to play.

Working a 5 day work week just makes life seem so much more pointless. By the time I get the other things I need to do (grocery shopping, appointments, etc.) done, its Sunday night.

A 4 day work week might give me time to play the piano I bought to combat depression.

A slam-dunk yes.

When you put it like that (~52 extra days per year), it becomes a slam dunk yes. Unfortunately I am teacher, and it wont switch for me unless the rest of society changes to it first. Only districts that do 4 days right now tend to be rural.

We could get back some sleep.

Honestly, the lack of time is why Im consciously killing my sleep schedule. Kiddos down and everything by 9, stay up til midnight or later to make sure I spend time with my wife and also have some me time.

And if something else comes up, I just end up staying up later to feel like I didnt waste my entire day at work/doing chores around the house just to turn around and do it all over again.

Over 11,500 unionized writers left their offices to join picket lines yesterday, May 2, after weeks of contract negotiations between the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Hollywoods major studios fell through. Now, alongside other demands, the WGA strikers are calling for regulations on the use of this new technology in creative projects.

Ghosted by East Village Gallery, Artists Demand Answers "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

On Friday, April 14, dozens of artists were gearing up for the opening of their group exhibition in Lower Manhattan, a show that had been in the works for weeks. But when they arrived at the location, they found their artwork still boxed up on the floor of the locked and empty gallery. The curator who charged each of them a $500 fee to participate was nowhere to be found.

The artists were contacted via social media with an invitation to apply for a spot in an immersive experience at the East Village Art Collection (EVAC). Though the exact number of participants remains unclear, around 25 artists were selected to display their work at an onsite exhibition on April 14 at the gallerys First Avenue space, and an additional cohort opted to participate in a rotating billboard display of their work in Times Square. But as the East Village blog EV Grieve reported, neither of the two elements came to fruition. Head Curator Steven Hirsch and other affiliates of EVAC have yet to provide details regarding the unforeseen cancellation, leaving the artists, some of whom traveled from out of state and even internationally, allegedly out thousands of dollars and convinced that the whole thing was a scam.

Hirsch told participants that he had a medical emergency, but over two weeks later, artists say theyre still in the dark. Hirsch did not respond to Hyperallergics multiple requests for comment for this story.

At face value, EVAC appears to be a vanity gallery that charges each artist $500 to exhibit their work. The events are also ticketed with general admission and VIP tiers, and all artwork sale proceeds are s...

Apichatpong Weerasethakul on Human Suffering, VR, and the Long Take "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

A young man searches the jungle for his erstwhile lover, who may or may not have become a tiger. A man on his deathbed converses with the ghosts of his wife and son. A caretaker for soldiers who rest in inexplicable comas befriends a pair of goddesses. A woman is plagued by a sound that only she can hear. In the films of Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul, the fantastical comes across as utterly natural. His characters live comfortably in dreamlike states where no line exists between reality and unreality, and hence the everyday can feel strangely miraculous. His oeuvre includes feature films as well as a voluminous catalogue of short films, installations, performance pieces, and, more recently, even virtual reality pieces.

Scientists Find Distant Gas Clouds That Will Help Reveal How Our Universe Was Created

Thanks to the Very Large Telescope (VLT) in Chile, which is run by the European Southern Observatory (ESO), we are one step closer to understanding how our universe was created. Researchers have detected three distant gas clouds that appear to have a chemical composition similar to what is expected in the first stellar explosions. In a study published in the Astrophysical Journal, a team led by Andrea Saccardi, a Ph.D. student at the Observatoire de Paris PSL, explains their findings.

Thanks to their composition, the team determined that these distant gas clouds were likely formed when the universe was only 10% to 15% of its current age. How do they know this? Generally, scientists believe that the very first stars that appeared 13.5 billion years ago were composed solely of hydrogen and helium. These giant stars quickly exploded in supernovas and enriched the surrounding gas with heavier elements. New stars born in this environment took on more complex elements until they eventually became the stars we are familiar with today. By matching the chemical makeup of a gas cloud, scientists can estimate its age.

In this case, the researchers were looking for gas clouds that lacked heavy elements, like iron. This heavy metal found at the core of stars wasn't expelled in the earliest supernovas, which were much weaker. In these three distant gas clouds, the researchers found just what they were looking for.

Measuring the chemical composition of a gas cloud...

Artist Reimagines the Infamous Met Gala Cockroach Dressed as a Fabulous Attendee

Of all the invited guests to the 2023 Met Gala, there was one infamous party crasher. And no, it wasnt a snubbed A-lister. It was a confused cockroach that was trying to escape the crowds but found itself at one of New York Citys biggest events. The insect tried its best to flee on-lookers and the camera, but its brief brush with fame was captured by amateur and professional photographers alike. By the end of the evening, the cockroach was a bonafide star.

At an event thats all about the ensembles, the obvious question was, Who was it wearing? Well, artist Travis Chapman has an answer for us. He painted a portrait of the cockroach striking a pose on the Colgate carpet wearing a fashionableif not a bit revealinggown with a train and tiny jewels. Alone on the carpet, all eyes are on it, just like in the viral video shared online.

As strange as the painting is, it highlights the creativity and the fun of sharing a creation like this online. Chapmans artwork has been popular on Reddit, where commenters have played along with his image. She still looks great though, one Redditor wrote. Like, 40 days old great. Whoever said roaches are not in their prime after day 100 should be fired.

Online fans were also calling for this image to be released as a print. Chapman listened, and you can now buy a print of the painting in his Etsy shop.

A cockroach went viral as it scurried across the carpet at the 2023 Met Gala. Artist Travis Chapman imagined the creature as an attendeegown and all.

People Share Secrets That Could Ruin Their Lives if They Got Out "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

I dont know about you, but Im definitely not brave enough to share my deepest, darkest secrets online

Even if Im doing it under an anonymous name.

But the folks youre about to hear from are letting it all hang out and they shared the big secrets they have that could potentially ruin their lives.

Take a look at what they had to say.

Strippin.

I quit my job to become a stripper recently.

I have more quality time with my family, I am more financially stable, Ive gotten into better shape, and I dont have to worry about budgets or bills as bad. If we need something in the house, it can go on the monthly or the weekly lists depending on severity.

If hubs needs a new project, I can give him his guy time. If my kid is sick, I can afford the medicine. I dont have to worry about money, and neither will my family compared to my childhood where I spent my time extremely worried about whether wed have food, electricity, heat or AC, or tampons.

It feels good to be in a stable home, and even if I am stripping to do it Im happy to be able to provide for my family the way I am.

Wow.

I had s**ual interaction with my cousin when we both were young and drunk, never ever did we speak about it, it was actually my first time having s**.

Pariss Arc de Triomphe Perfectly Frames a Glowing Full Moon in a Stunning Photo by Stefano Zanarello "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

The moon aligns with the arc de triomphe in Paris with cars in the street below

Image Stefano Zanarello, shared with permission

On a recent trip to Paris with his family, Italian photographer Stefano Zanarello traveled to the iconic Arc de Triomphe on an evening with a bright full moon. With a bustling street below, Zanarello waited about 1,300 meters from the famed monument, speculating that the celestial body would pass through the cloudless night sky and precisely position itself with the architectural aperture.

In this kind of photo, the main important thing is the planning, since the moon walks on trajectories that change every day, so its fundamental to predict the trajectory and evaluate the shooting point, from with the moon is viewed in the wanted position regard another element, the Arc, in this case, he tells Colossal, noting that he used the celestial planning software PhotoPills in the process. Within about 30 minutes of his arrival, the moon centered itself inside the neoclassical arc, allowing Zanarello to capture the short-lived alignment.

North Carolina County Enacts One-Year Ban On Commercial Bitcoin Mining, But Not Without Pushback "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

After a public hearing, Buncombe County voted to approve a moratorium on bitcoin mining in order to craft zoning standards and regulations for special land use.

As first covered in Bitcoin Magazine on April 6, Buncombe County, North Carolina proposed a one-year moratorium on bitcoin mining and held a public hearing on May 2.

The text of the proposal stated that the moratorium, if approved, would go into effect the same day as the hearing, so it was readily apparent that the County Commission was simply following procedure when taking comments from the public.

Unlike other moratoriums in the state where no objections were voiced, people throughout the region spoke out in opposition. State associations and local Bitcoiners came together in a collaborative effort to speak to various concerns about the one-year ban on commercial bitcoin mines.

Comments in support of Bitcoin ranged from safeguarding financial freedom, strengthening the grid through demand response programs, investment and use of sustainable energy, protecting first amendment rights, encouraging innovation and more.

There were three people in attendance that expressed their approval of the ban, citing concerns about noise and a desire to conserve energy usage in order to meet Governor Roy Coopers climate goals.

The moratorium passed unanimously.

From the Buncombe County website:

The Buncombe County Board of Commissioners is moving forward with a moratorium on cryptocurrency mining. Commissioners approved the one-year ban after holding a public hearing during their meeting on May 2. The Countys current ordinances do not define cryptocurrency mining as a specific use. Cryptocurrency mining operations can negatively affect surrounding neighborhoods due to excessive energy use, e-waste, pollution, and noise. The temporary pause will help protect the public interest until regulations regarding cryptocurrency mining are adopted. The one-year ban is effective immediately through May 1, 2024.

Fedi Raises $17 Million In Fundraising Round Led By Ego Death Capital "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The company, now having raised $21.21 million, system later in May.

Fedi, Inc., a U.S.-based developer of community-empowering financial and data technology utilizing Fedimints on Bitcoin, has raised $17 million in a Series A round of financing.

operating system aimed at the builder community later this month. Fedi seeks to empower individuals to collaborate through "federations" made up of friends, families, neighbors, nonprofit organizations, social clubs, businesses, conferences and other forms of community to take control of their money, data and digital lives while protecting user privacy and autonomy.

The open-source Fedimint protocol, on which Fedi is built, makes it easy for developers to build additional apps and modules to complement Fedi's offerings and give more options to users. It provides a resilient, privacy-protecting, and simple way for people who dont have access to or dont trust centralized alternatives to secure and use their data and money, a press release sent to Bitcoin Magazine explained.

The financing round was led by Ego Death Capital, with participation from Block, Kingsway, Trammell Venture Partners and Timechain, among others. This funding brings Fedi's total funding to $21.21 million. Fedi CEO Obi Nwosu said that the interest in the round allowed them to select investors that are fully aligned with the future they are trying to create with Fedi.

Fedi's community or "second-party" custody model offers a secure alternative to third-party cryptocurrency exchanges, cloud backup services and encrypted messaging apps. The system's underlying technology is readymade for rapid expansion and can be adapted to do virtually all the things people currently use their smartphone or computer to do. The system aims to answer the security, privacy and trust deficiencies of current alternatives, bringing users benefits similar to self-custody without technical or financial barriers to entry.

Fedi is offering a truly decentralized and federated way not only to custody bitcoin but to take back control of everything that matters in your digital life, said Jeff Booth, co-founder of Ego Death Capital and lead investor for this series. Its hard to overstate what this combination of technologies makes possible, and while I expect Fedi to be at the forefront, Im just as excited by what people are going to build around it. It is truly something that can bring value and a brighter future for billions of people, he added.

The vignettes show how much he cares for the eels, crabs, loaches, and snails while also highlighting how he maintains this unique addition to his house.

Though it may seem like an unusual and expensive undertaking, Tobler fortunately didnt have to excavate part of his home to accommodate the eel pit. Its an underground rainwater cistern that came with the house, he tells My Modern Met. It was originally built in 1958 and has been holding water since then. It originally supplied the house with drinking water before it had city water. Prior to becoming the eel pit, the cistern sat empty for the last 15 or 20 years.

Tobler saw the possibilities for the cistern when moving in. Ive always kept exotic fish and all sorts of exotic animals, he explains, so when we moved into the house I immediately knew I was turning it into a fish pond, and eels were always one I wanted to keep in a pond-type setup. Tobler started with some minnows, crayfish, and goldfish before adding seven American eels in late spring 2022. Since then, hes added more creatures to his eel pit including gar and sturgeon. Throughout it all, he is generous with his knowledge and routinely gives pit tours to his social media fans across the world.

Biden Administration Proposes 30% Tax On Energy Used By Bitcoin Miners "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The Digital Asset Mining Energy excise tax would harm businesses and push innovation out of the United States.

The President's new budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2024 includes the Digital Asset Mining Energy (DAME) excise tax, which would require bitcoin mining firms to pay 30% of the cost of electricity used for mining crypto assets. This tax aims to address what the White House claims are the economic and environmental costs of mining, citing local pollution, increased greenhouse gas emissions and higher energy prices.

Unfortunately, the proposal does not take into account the large mix of renewable energy sources being used to power bitcoin mining, which Bitcoin Mining Council research shows continues to grow, making up more than half of the energy utilized by miners. In addition, it does not consider the grid-strengthening benefits that Bitcoin mining can offer, which has been seen in states like Texas.

The recent announcement of the DAME tax is yet another example of government overreach and intervention in the private sector. The proposal is just another tax grab by the government, disguised as an effort to address environmental concerns.

While it is true that mining consumes energy, it is not the responsibility of the government to dictate how businesses operate or what is a good and bad use of energy. The government should not be punishing businesses for pursuing innovation and technological advancement. The DAME tax is nothing more than a blatant attempt to stifle innovation in the Bitcoin industry and limit the potential for economic growth.

Furthermore, the government's claim that Bitcoin mining imposes costs on others is unfounded. Bitcoin mining firms already pay for the electricity they use, and any negative externalities are mitigated by the fact that they often locate in areas with excess or renewable energy. The argument that mining firms impose costs on low-income neighborhoods and communities of color is simply fearmongering and lacks any empirical evidence.

In fact, the DAME tax could have negative consequences for these same communities. The tax could cause firms to move their operations overseas, resulting in job losses and decreased economic activi...

An Animated Swimmer Dives into the Exhausting Experience of Working Under Pressure "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

A relatable animated short from the Ukrainian artist and director Iulia Voitova captures the total collapse and immobility of burnout and exhaustion. La Plongeuese, or The Diver, follows a professional swimmer so affected by a rigorous training schedule and the incessant noise of her coachs whistle that she decides to give up her career entirely. When she visits a talented masseuse, though, she finds that her nerves and anxiety, which Voitova brilliantly depicts with tightly crimped paper, finally get some reprieve.

La Plongeusese was the directors graduation project for La Poudrire, an animation film school in Valence, France, and you can find more of her works on Vimeo and Instagram.

Egypts Hidden Treasure: The Valley of Whales A Journey Beyond the Pyramids "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Unraveling the Mysteries of Ancient Whales and the Fossil-Rich Wadi El Hitan

Venture beyond Egypts iconic pyramids and delve into the lesser-known wonder of Wadi El Hitan, a treasure trove of ancient whale fossils and geological secrets that offer a unique perspective into our planets past.

The Allure of Egypts Rich History

Egypts enchanting history, diverse culture, and famous pyramids have captured hearts around the world, including my own. Its ancient sites, like the Pyramids of Giza, offer a glimpse into the lives of its early civilizations and the grand achievements of its pharaohs.

A Dynasty of Pyramid Builders

The most colossal and awe-inspiring pyramids were constructed during the Fourth Dynasty, founded by Sneferu. Sneferu, his son Khufu, and grandson Khafre built the largest and most impressive pyramids, but Egypts historical sites extend far beyond these architectural wonders.

Exploring Egypts Natural Beauty

In addition to its ancient man-made marvels, Egypt boasts stunning natural attractions like the Nile River. Another lesser-known yet equally fascinating site is Wadi El Hitan, a hidden gem waiting to be explored by those eager to venture off the beaten path.

The Valley of Whales: A Portal to the Past

Wadi El Hitan, or the Valley of Whales, earned its name due to the incredible collection of prehistoric whale skeletons concealed beneath its sands. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005, the area houses an extensive array of well-preserved fossils that provide valuable insights into Earths ancient history.

Swimming in the Thetys Ocean

The Archaeoceti, a long-extinct sub-order of whales, roamed the Thetys Ocean around 40 million years ago. Their fossils, discovered at Wadi El Hitan, offer a unique opportunity to study the evolutionary history of whales and the environment in which they thrived.

A Fossil Goldmine

Wadi El Hitans extensive fossil library includes whale skeletons and remains of sharks, sawfish, turtles, and crocodiles, offering a comprehensive view of the ancient ecosystem. This diverse array of fossils allows scientists to reconstruct the environment that existed millions of years ago, offering a rare glimpse into the past.

The Evolutionary Journey of Whales

Wadi El Hitans significance lies in its ability to shed light on the enigmatic evolution of whales, as they transitioned from land-dwelling creatures to ocean-dwelling mammals. By examining the countless fossils unearthed at the site, researchers can piece together the remarkable journey of these magnificent animals.

Preserving the Past for the Future

Despite its importance, Wadi El Hitan remains a relatively unexplored site. Covering 200 km of the desert, the fossils are incredibly well-preserved, partly due to the regions remote location and low tou...

Everyone Has Assigned Seats On A Plane. So Why Do So Many People Feel Entitled To More? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Air travel is often fraught with stress and anxiety, even for people who enjoy trotting the globe whenever they get the chance. We all have a contract, unspoken though it may be, to be as tolerant of others flying with us as possible.

Or at least, thats how it used to be.

Now, people dont think children should be allowed on planes, and apparently, they also think theyre entitled to whatever seat they want, whether or not they actually booked or paid for it in advance.

OP is an overweight woman who booked two seats together instead of one so that she didnt have to be uncomfortable or smashed up against another person for the duration. On her flight home, everything was fine.

I (36F) flew home for Thanksgiving this week and got an early flight this morning so I would be able to do laundry tomorrow and relax before going back to work.

I am a plus-size woman (the cause was finally diagnosed after three years of weight gain, Ive lost 4 lbs in the last four weeks!), so when I booked my flights, I spent extra money and booked two adjacent seats so whoever had the third seat in my row would not have to be squished up in my business.

Flying out was great, the other person in my row was cool and we shared the middle seat and snacks and played pokemon on our switches and visited each others animal crossing islands.

On her return flight, a man tried to sit his 12yo daughter in her second seat, and when she refused, he got upset and began to shame her.

Flying home was where things became a bit more problematic.

I was settled into my pair of seats, and a gentleman tried to sit his daughter (~12, not a waif, nor was her overweight dad) in my middle seat, where my bum is taking up a good third of the middle seat. I said politely, Im sorr...
