22 Winners and Finalists of the 2023 Sony World Photography Awards Open Competition "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

22 Winners and Finalists of the 2023 Sony World Photography Awards Open Competition

Cowgirl at a barrel racing competition

Slam on the Brakes Zhenhuan Zhou, China Mainland, Winner, Open Competition, Motion, 2023 Sony World Photography Awards
Barrel racing is a competition where cowgirls ride quickly around barrels; the one that does this in the shortest time wins. Every time a horse reaches a barrel it needs to brake sharply, turn around the barrel and then race to the next one. The whole race is exciting, especially at the turns.

The World Photography Organisation has announced the category winners and shortlist of the Sony World Photography Awards Open Competition. These images were culled from over 200,000 photos that were submitted to the Open Competition. This part of the contest is open to all photographersboth professional and amateurand is designed to reward the best single images of 2022.

The 10 categories, which include Motion, Street Photography, Landscape, and Travel, are devised to give photographers ample opportunity to share their creativity. Photographers from seven different countries took home the top slot, while up to 15 others were named as part of the shortlist for each category.

Standout imagery includes Zhenhuan Zhou's dynamic photograph of a cowgirl and her horse during a barrel racing competition, which topped the Motion category. The horse's hooves jut out into the foreground as it brakes sharply. It's a wonderful example of how movement can be conveyed in a still image.

Isabel Bielderman's crisp, minimalist photograph of a ski jump hovering above snow-covered trees in Finland demonstrates that even the shortlist contains powerful imagery. Her photograph was one of several placed on the Landscape category shortlist. The Dutch photographer's stunning photo, where the white snow po...

Wolf Bitcoin And Lightning Accelerator Announces First Cohort, Investors And Mentors "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The New York-based Lightning accelerator has announced its first set of companies and projects.

In Wolf's Clothing, the first-ever startup accelerator dedicated to Lightning, announced its selection of eight teams for its inaugural cohort, Wolfpack 1.

According to the press release sent to Bitcoin Magazine, the program received more than 100 applications from teams representing 36 countries. Wolf's accelerator program is designed to help early-stage startups achieve product-market fit, develop their brand, secure critical early-stage funding and grow businesses that fuel the global adoption of Bitcoin.

The selected companies are working on topics such as decentralized trading via discreet log contracts, a WeChat-style "super app" for Nostr and Lightning, automated Lightning node management, instant payments and remittances in MENA markets and more.

In addition to this announcement, as Wolf heads towards the start of its first cohort in April, the company announced a list of committed investors and mentors. Industry heavyweights such as Allen Farrington, Ego Death Capital, Fulgur Ventures, Hivemind Ventures, Kingsway Capital, NYDIG, Stone Ridge Holdings Group, and Urim Capital are involved.

Kelly Brewster, CEO of Wolf, said, "The volume and quality of applications to Wolf has been simply incredible. From true 'decentralized finance,' to infrastructure, social media, payments and more, the teams joining Wolf are moving Bitcoin forward across a wide variety of frontiers."

Applications for Wolf's second cohort, Wolfpack 2, are open and will be accepted through April 7, 2023. Wolf is a subsidiary of Stone Ridge Holdings Group, founded in 2012, which has five operating subsidiaries: Stone Ridge Asset Management, NYDIG, Longtail Re, Proof, and Wolf.

The announcement coincides with tremendous growth on the Lightning Network, with the Network's capacity at an all-time high, up 63% since the beginning of 2022. Also in focus, according to the announcement, "the explosive growth of Nostr continues with more than 2 million pubkeys writing events." The Lightning accelerator may very well end up playing a crucial role in the global adoption of Bitcoin, fueling innovative ideas and providing critical funding to early-stage startups.

Grand Galactic Convergence: Lessons of La Palma Stargate "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

From openhandweb.org: Here in the Openhand community, we've recently completed a magical retreat on the volcanic island of La Palma in the Canary Islands - a key planetary stargate, with seven islands that have strong Pleiadian alignment. How might the energy of this magical Isla Bonita speak into the planetary earth shift right now? What might the complexities of the field there reveal to energy and lightworkers about how to focus attention as we sail into the Grand Galactic Convergence? From what we experienced, it's clear to say, that Isla Bonita really is the Canary in the coal mine!

Overcoming Planetary Inertia in the Shift

I'd say the biggest reflection is that of inertia in the field, and in people's lives, where karmic convolutions and Opposing Consciousness still get into the various inner layers, that require determination and commitment to keep peeling back. This will be no quick sprint to the finishing line, but rather a marathon of dedicated inner work. I know that could sound a degree off-putting to some, BUT, to others you'll see the golden opportunity for growth of the soul.
In the same breath, I am simply bowled over by the humble, but tremendously wise and journied, Star Souls who are now being drawn to this Openhand work. You have the capacity to feel the various intervention layers that limit here, but then resonate and communicate realignment  into them. What the shift movement needs to realise is the power of expressed truth to unravel karmic density and intervention in the field. This is what causes the unravelling mechanism to accelerate - because literally EVERYTHING is shaped from the underlying quantum field. Speak coherently into it, in an aligned way, with truth, and the whole intervention dynamic comes apart at the seams.

The Labour Pains of Isla Bonita

Thus we were able to connect through the intervention and into Isla Bonita, the soul of the Island. Just like Gaia, s...

Avatar project aims for human immortality by 2045 "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Thanks to Devon for submitting:
Russian media magnate Dmitry Itskov is heading "Avatar," a tremendously ambitious and far-reaching multidisciplinary research project that aims to achieve immortality in humans within the next three decades. He plans to do it by housing human brains in progressively more disembodied vehicles, first transplanting them into robots and then, by the year 2045, by reverse-engineering the human brain and effectively "downloading" human consciousness onto a computer chip.

Fact or fiction?

When speculating on seemingly unobtainable goals such as this, one must be careful not to believe that improbable technological advances automatically become more likely simply by looking further away in the future. This is the cognitive trap that, for instance, has seen many leading IT experts predict the development of a human-level artificial intelligence at roughly twenty years in the future for at least the past five decades.

Looking at Avatar's proposed timeline, Itskov's project seems to suffer from the same fallacy. Certainly, if we borrow Carl Sagan's rule that "extraordinary claims demand extraordinary proof," the project comes up short for the time being; it does, however, have the merit of basing most of its steps on technology that is either in the works or of general interest. And with the rate of technological change continuing to accelerate, the project's goals may be within reach, although not necessarily within the project's aggressive timeline.

The roadmap to immortality

A Student Writes a Rejection Letter Rejecting Harvards Rejection Letter (1981): Hear It Read by Actor Himesh Patel "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

The documentary filmmaker and sports editor Paul Devlin has won five Emmy awards, but he may well be better known for not getting into Harvard or rather, for not getting into Harvard, then rejecting Harvards rejection. I noticed that the rejection letter I received from Harvard had a grammatical error, Devlin writes. So, I wrote a letter back, rejecting their rejection letter. His mother then sent a copy of this letter to the New York Times and it was published in the New Jersey section on May 31, 1981. In 1996, when the New York Times Magazine published a cover story about the trauma students were experiencing getting rejected from colleges, she seized the opportunity to send her sons rejection-rejection letter to the Paper of Record.

It turned out that Devlins letter had already run there, having long since gone the pre-social-media equivalent of viral. The New York Times accused me of plagiarism. When they discovered that I was the original author and they had unwittingly re-printed themselves, they were none too happy. But my mom insists that it was important to reprint the article because the issue was clearly still relevant.

Intricate Sculptures by Zheng Lu Suspend Splashes of Water in Stainless Steel "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Water in Dripping Group of Warblers (2022), stainless steel, 102 3/8 x 68 7/8 x 122 inches. All images Zheng Lu, shared with permission courtesy of HOFA Gallery

Harnessing the energy of water in motion, Zheng Lus metallic sculptures appear frozen in time. The Beijing-based artist defies utilitarian or industrial associations with steel, creating tension between the material and the fluid forms. Challenging our expectations and understanding of physics, smooth, chrome-like surfaces reflect the surroundings and change in the light as the viewer moves around them, further adding to the perception that the sculpture itself is in motion. In some of the works, Zheng composes surfaces of thousands of Chinese characters derived from historical texts and poems, nodding to early Chinese philosophers who studied physical principles of the natural world to better understand cosmological mysteries.

Zhengs exhibition Liquid Narratives runs March 16 to 29 at HOFA Gallery in London, marking the artists first show in the U.K., and you can find more of his work on his website.

Important Equinox Message Regarding Ascension Portal Readiness "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The upcoming equinox is an ascension portal Heres how to be prepared and why its so crucial

By Gerry Gomez This is going to be a long post with a bunch of critical information in it thats been given to me and a small team from source and our guides. Please review it all as a lightworker. There are instructions included within that are needed at this time. Weve been made aware that it is our job to get ready and help our family members to start waking up. Because of our reach, we can get this information to a lot of lightworkers and the general population.
At the end of last year, some of us at Prepare for Change where I am a Council member, noticed that there was a shifting of energies compelling some of us to:
  1. Deal with deep trauma healing
  2. Move on from current situations or organizations
  3. Focus in specific areas of our missions
  4. Learn some specifics about the ascension shift
This manifested in people moving from our organization to others, or to go on to personal projects. This has been a regular occurrence with PFC over the years, where people come to the organization, learn what they need to learn to awaken and then move on to do their light work and missions. It has been a blessing to see many succeed and an honor to help early awakening people go through the process of learning, healing, then leading. I am now being guided to broaden the message. I am creating regular posts on naradgimshift.substack.com and invite you to check out more ascension info there. Ill circulate important posts on PFC (with their blessing) also when theres a vital bit of information to share. However, what Im covering here has been provided by higher planes work, guides, and source through myself and a few friends.

Revolutionizing the Crypto World: The Power and Potential of Stablecoins Explained "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

If youre interested in cryptocurrency, chances are youve heard of stablecoins. These coins have been gaining popularity in recent years due to their unique characteristics and potential to revolutionize the crypto world. In this article, well explain what stablecoins are, how they work, the advantages they offer, the types of stablecoins available, their role in the crypto market, the future of stablecoins, how to invest in them, the risks associated with investments, and regulations surrounding their use.

Introduction to Stablecoins

Stablecoins are a type of cryptocurrency that are designed to maintain a stable value. Unlike other cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, which have a volatile value and can fluctuate wildly in price, stablecoins are pegged to a specific asset or basket of assets, such as the US dollar, gold, or other cryptocurrencies. The goal of stablecoins is to offer the benefits of cryptocurrency, such as decentralization and security, while minimizing the risk associated with price volatility.

What are Stablecoins and How Do They Work?

Stablecoins work by pegging their value to a specific asset or basket of assets. This allows them to maintain a stable value, regardless of market conditions. For example, if a stablecoin is pegged to the US dollar, then one unit of the stablecoin will always be worth one US dollar. This stability is achieved through a variety of methods, including collateralization, algorithmic stabilization, and reserve backing.

Collateralized stablecoins are backed by assets held in reserve, such as fiat currency, gold, or other cryptocurrencies. These assets are held in a secure location, such as a bank, and are used to guarantee the value of the stablecoin. Algorithmic stablecoins, on the other hand, use an algorithm to adjust the supply of the coin based on market demand, in order to maintain a stable value. Finally, reserve-backed stablecoins are backed by an actual reserve of assets, such as a reserve of US dollars, which are held in a secure location and used to guarantee the value of the stablecoin.

The Advantages of Stablecoins

The main advantage of stablecoins is their stability. This makes them an attractive option for individuals and businesses that want to use cryptocurrency for transactions, but are wary of the price volatility associated with other cryptocurrencies. Stablecoins also offer fast and secure transactions, as well as the benefits of decentralization and anonymity that come with using cryptocurrency.

Another advantage of stablecoins is their potential to facilitate cross-border transactions. Because stablecoins are not tied to a specific country or currency, they can be used to facilitate transactions between individuals and businesses in different countries, without the need for a traditional financial institution. This can reduce transaction fees and increase the speed of transactions, making it easier for...

Artificial Intelligence, Art & the Future of Creativity: Watch the Final Chapter of the Everything is a Remix Series "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

From 2010 to 2012, filmmaker Kirby Ferguson released Everything is a Remix, a four-part series (watch here) that explored art and creativity, and particularly how artists inevitably borrow from one another, drawing on past ideas and conventions, and then turn these materials into something beautiful and new. In the initial series, Ferguson focused on musicians, filmmakers, writers and even video game makers. Now, a little more than a decade later, Ferguson has resurfaced and released a fifth and final chapter in his series, with this episode focusing on a different kind of artist: artificial intelligence. Responding to the rise of AI-generated art, Ferguson delves into the ethics of art generated by machines, particularly when theyre trained with human-created art. Is AI-generated art a form of piracy? Or is it another kind of creative remix? And what does AI mean for the future of art and creativity? These are just some of the weighty questions Ferguson tackles in his final installment. Watch it above.

The Rhombus of Michaelis "IndyWatch Feed Fertility"

Midwives often talk about how we can re-collect the kinds of knowledge which were held by our predecessors who attended births before they were taken over by medicalisation and moved out of the home environment.  Occasionally, somebody discovers knowledge which is both old and new, recognises its implications, and this becomes their passion.

Such was the case with Jean Sutton and the rhombus of Michaelis, an area of the lower back which plays a key role in physiological birth. Much of this article is based on a discussion / interview with Jean which took place during August 2002; her words are in italics. It is still just as relevant today.

Before we get into the finer details of what Jean affectionately calls the rhombus, I should add that part of the point in writing about this is that this is the kind of knowledge that some midwives will see as very obvious; they will have read about it before (e.g. Sutton 2000), heard Jean speak, or be independently aware of this feature of birthing bodies. They might be surprised that anyone feels the need to write about it again. Yet others will not have heard of the rhombus of Michaelis or of the difference that their knowing about this can make to the women they attend. Such has been my experience in talking to midwives about this kind of experiential / physiological knowledge or, as Jean calls it, womens wisdom.  What seems obvious to one midwife will be news to another.

I also want to acknowledge that, since this article was published, a number of debates about language have occurred, and we might use different terms now. Jeans words still carry an immense amount of wisdom, so please read them with an understanding of the context and time in which she spoke.

So where is this rhombus, and what does it do?

In Jeans words,...

The Malaysian government has announced a new initiative to "combat Islamophobia" by globally distributing translated copies of the Quran. They have set aside more than $2 million in their 2023 budget. Twenty thousand copies produced under the project would be sent to Sweden, where a far-right Swedish-Danish activist Rasmus Paludan lit the Quran on fire while staging protests. Some Malaysians are skeptical of the plan, and believe it would be better to spend that money on social welfare programs to improve living standards for Malaysians. Sweden's ambassador to Malaysia welcomed the plan, while a hardline Malaysian Islamist group expressed skepticism, insisting on harsher measures and boycotts against Sweden.

10 Signs Your Child Has A Highly Sensitive Brain "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Every child is different and unique, and when we, as parents do not understand why are children, are acting in a certain way, it can cause us to misunderstand them. Misunderstandings can lead to your child feeling as though something is wrong with them, which is the last thing you want to make your child feel.

Many parents misunderstand what sensitivity is and, in turn, unintentionally lead their children to feel as though their sensitivity is a bad thing. In reality, more sensitive children are underappreciated. Why? Based on the research, highly sensitive children are more able to harness a very important skill: empathy.

So, does your child have a highly sensitive brain? Here are the signs.

1. They experience emotional extremes.

More sensitive children tend to experience deeper emotional extremes. This can look like them having a major reaction to something that may seem slight. In some cases, their mood may go from 0-100 before you can even understand what is happening.

2. They are easily triggered by sensory stimulation.

Does your child seem especially sensitive to lights, sounds, and other sensory stimuli? For example, if you notice your child seems especially moody during a grocery store trip or a trip somewhere where there is a lot of stimuli, then they likely are a highly sensitive child.

3. They have major meltdowns.

Oftentimes, highly sensitive children are more prone to meltdowns. They are easily overwhelmed and have big emotions. When you add sensory sensitivity in there, its easy to see why they melt down.

4. They are very tuned in.

Highly sensitive children tend to be very tuned into everyone else around them. You may notice that they are very observant and pick up on things you would not expect them to. Additionally, they are also likely to be overanalyzed.

5. They are rigid and inflexible.

Living as a highly sensitive child can be overwhelming. One way kids cope is by trying to regain control over the situation. Due to this, they may seem very rigid about certain things, like where people sit, the color of their plates, or the style of their hair.

6. They are very self-aware.

Some highly sensitive kids are even more self-aware than most adults. In some cases, they may even shock you with the things they say about themselves.

7. They are fearful and cautious about new experiences.

The world is especially nerve-wracking for a highly sensitive child. While from the outside looking in, you may just think they are being dramatic, in reality, they are just trying to find a sense of peace. One way of doing that is by feeling a sense of control over their environment. This can make new experiences especially nerve-wracking.

8. They are easily frustrated.

Highly sensitive children have a lower threshold for frustration. While it may take most kids quite a bit to blow up, highly sensitive ki......

8 Ways to Raise Your Children to Be Problem-Solvers "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

A few weeks ago, my husband and I were having a conversation about the things we wanted most for our children. My husband stated he wanted our son to lead a happy and successful life and while I agreed, I explained that as far as traits go, I wanted my child to always be able to figure things out and find a way through no matter what.

There is a lot to be said about good problem-solving skills. I do not want to do everything for my child, because one day, I know they will have to live in this world without me. Of course, I want them to be well-equipped to do the job right. To ensure that, you need to teach your child to have problem-solving skills. Below, I will go over 8 things you can do to ensure your kids become problem solvers, too.

1. Dont constantly stand over them.

It may be tempting to constantly stand over your child and protect them. However, when you become a helicopter mom, your child has little time to think for themselves. In turn, they may become dependent on you to problem-solve for them. Instead, give them some room and observe them. Only interject when you truly need to.

2. Let them have free play.

Kids need free play to learn and to grow. Free play doesnt mean handing them a tablet and walking into the other room. It means allowing them to play with other kids, without the technology, so they can develop the skills they need to problem-solve on their own.

3. Give them options.

When you are trying to get your child to do something, give them options. For example, at bedtime, instead of saying, Go brush your teeth right now and put on your pajamas to get ready for bed, say., Would you like to brush your teeth first or put on your pajamas?

4. Make problem-solving a fun activity.

Make your home a culture that revolves around problem-solving. When a problem arises, make a game out of it and enlist your child to help you figure the problem out.

5. Read problem-solving scenarios/stories together.

Go online and find problem-solving stories and scenarios. Read them aloud to your child and encourage them to help you find a solution.

6. Teach them problem-solving steps.

When it comes to problem-solving, there are some steps involved. Teach your kids the following steps.

A. Identify the problem (I am always late for school.)
B. Break down the problem into manageable parts. (I get out of bed too late, my clothes are never set out as mom asked me to, I always forget to do my homework, etc.)

7. Its okay to let them fail.

It may be hard to do, but you need to get comfortable with letting your child fail sometimes. Instead of jumping in, as long as they are not in harms way, let them figure out how to solve their problem.

8. Enlist your childrens help from time to time.

Whenever a family problem arises, if it is appropriate, enlist y...

13 People Whove Worked for Ultra Rich People Talk About Their Experiences "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Its gotta be pretty crazy working for people who are super rich, dont you think?

Because, lets face it, they aint like the majority of usnot even close.

And today were gonna get the straight dope about what its really like!

Lets get started!

1. Tales from the bank.

I was a bank teller and have two stories here.

The first: A person my age, about 20, came in. He was a delight and came in once a year to take his trust, which was $100 million, and take the interest out, about $48,000. Once a year thats all he lived off. He was content and modest. I loved it.

The second: A girl came in with her mom. She actively whined at me for 10 minutes about how unfair it was that her mom had all this money in her account and was making her live in poverty with all her university fees paid, her rent and car covered as she was only getting a tiny payment of $5,000 a month. She couldnt fathom surviving off it. Th

e mother turns to me and says, Well, I dont know. I thought that would be enough to live off? Should I give her more? I meekly said, Thats $60,000 a year. I make $20,000 a year, am going to college full time, and have a baby on the way They both got really quiet and left. Never saw either of them again.

2. Living like a prince.

I briefly worked with one of the top Saudi Arabian crown princes in the 80s.

He would buy out the top three floors of the best hotels (Four Seasons, etc.); two floors were for maids/help/security, and the top floor was for the royal f...

The Terrible Twos Are A Cake Walk Compared To The Terrifying Threes "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Most people are familiar with the phrase terrible twos, however, most parenting experts agree that three-year-olds give their parents much more grief than two-year-olds. With that said, neither the twos nor threes are easy by any stretch of the imagination.

Of course, the journey through these years is worth the effort. However, knowing that doesnt make being a parent of a terrible two or three-year-olds. Three-year-olds are so notorious for their tantrums, that many parenting experts call them threenagers because their expressions of frustration are very similar to a hyper-emotional teenager.

Two-year-olds get a bad wrap, but once you get a threenager, they come with an attitude, says Australian parenting expert Pinky McKay during an interview with MailOnline. No longer are they just saying no, now theyre negotiating like tiny lawyers.

Another parenting expert, Dr. Justin Coulson, who is both an author and psychologist, says that excessive screen time does not help this at all. On the contrary, excessive screen time will only hinder your childs emotional development and their ability to regulate themselves.

Theres evidence that too much time in front of screens is having a negative impact, that when we start putting our threenagers in front of these screens, we create more temper tantrums, more self-regulation problems, he said.

While McKay does assert that three-year-olds can be a tad more difficult, they are not impossible to handle. Dont take it personally, she says when asked for advice. Let your child have increasing control over things that are safe and dont matter too much. For example, of course, you have to make them wear a seatbelt or wear a helmet on their bicycle. So, things like allowing them to wear their favorite rainboots with their fancy dinner dress should be no issue. Pick your battles.

Last but not least, McKay suggests avoiding arguing with a teenager. Dont get drawn in and argue with your threenager, remember, you are the adult.

Why We Will Always Be Closest To Those Who Knew Us When We Were Young and Reckless "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Our youth is a special time, one that in many ways felt magical, all the while being in a constant state of chaos. During those years, we destroyed ourselves, lost ourselves, and found ourselves again, many times over.

Friendships that took place when we were young and unafraid to be vulnerable simply hit differently. These friendships were more akin to love affairs than adult friendships. The feelings we held for our friends back then came on strong and intensely. As soon as we met a kindred spirit, it was like everything in the world clicked together. Many of us spent years trying to find the one (a best friend who stood above the rest.) So, when that person finally came along, it felt like you had hit the lottery.

Unfortunately, as we grew into our roles as adults, we lost a part of ourselves and along the way, our friendships changed. All the intensity of our younger years began to melt away and we soon replaced long nights of chaos and mischief with paying bills, watching television, and doing household chores.

This change and transformation are one that is natural, but it still somewhat stings when you think about it. When you reach adulthood, you begin to forge new friendships that are calmer and less chaotic. These friends are amazing, but it will always be hard for them to compete with the very first friendships of our childhood.

Your adult friends will never really understand where you came from. They didnt meet you when you were finding yourself, they met you when you had already found her. It is because of this, that you will always hold a special place in your heart for your friends who saw you at your most authentic and vulnerable displays.

The Artist Helping Resolve Detroits Housing Problems "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Artists are fundamentally problem solvers. They are generally understood to be solving problems of a personal-expressive nature, or perhaps ones related to community, and occasionally political or environmental problems. They are not often considered the front line for solving, say, problems of city infrastructure. But maybe they should be.

If youd asked Oren Goldenberg what he does ten years ago, he might have said filmmaker or producer, or he might have narrowed his eyes and asked: Who wants to know? These days, however, the answer is a little more complicated. At some point in the last decade, Goldenberg stopped making films as a document, and stepped through the frame to build the world-as-document. It isnt the first time hes been tempted to do so. ...

The Case for an Artificial Moon? "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Image result for the Moon

The moon as we know it has incredibly distinguishing characteristics compared to the moons orbiting other planets within our solar system. Add to that the bizarre observations made upon the moon surface of excavations, wheel marks, instrumental debris that doesnt belong to the Apollo manned missions, and the very size of the moon, and one has to wonder. Since the sighting by one astronomer of what he described through his telescope as a twelve mile long bridge and sketches made off 100 thousand Apollo mission photos of anomalies on the lunar surface by George Leonard Someone Else is on the Moon circa 1972, there have been intense studies.

Image result for robot head on the moon

Mysterious debris

One particularly interesting photo is called Robot Head lying there on the moons surface. Definitely not the Ranger Space Craft launched to crash into the moon in the 1960s to achieve close photos and not Apollo Mission artifacts either. It is known that NASA even paid to air brush photographic artists to cover up things in these lunar photos that the government did not want the people to know about, but get to some very distinctive information on what makes the moon so unique.

Curiously unusual orbit

Unlike the moons of other planets in the solar system the moons orbit around the earth is almost perfectly concentric which is unusual for any natural satellite. The moons orbits of other planets are elliptical. The moon is 1/6 the size of earth and the largest moon in the solar system. This is another feature that distinguishes the moon as also being the largest in relationship to the size the pf planet it revolves around.  The moon serves as an actual asteroid shield that has probably taken quite a few big hits that would have devastated the earth. Because of the strong gravitational attraction between the moon and earth we have a very necessary tide that rises and falls cyclically throughout the worlds oceans. The moon has a dark side that never faces the earth due to a tidal lock caused by earths pull on the axis of the moon restricting its revolution on its own axis. This is unique compared to any moon in the constellations of Saturn, Jupiter, Neptune, or Uranus. Mars has 2 moons and one of them is the only moon in the solar system that orbits in a retrograde directio...

Protests in Greece Following Assault of Archeologist "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Protesters took to the streets in Athens, Greece, on Tuesday, March 14 to decry an assault of state-employed archeologist Manolis Psarros. Some believe the attack was connected to Psarross regulatory work preserving cultural antiquities on the island of Mykonos and ongoing pressures from the tourism industry.

Last week, an unidentified man and his accomplice struck the 53-year-old archaeologist as he entered his car, causing Psarros to lose consciousness, collapse, and bleed. Psarross partner told the Greek newspaper Protothema that the archaeologist received punches to the face, head, and sternum. An employee of the Cyclades Antiquities Authority, a Ministry of Culture and Sports department, Psarros was taken to the hospital and is now recovering at home after suffering broken ribs and widespread bruises.

Culture Ministry employees ceased working for five hours in response to what protesters are calling a mafia-style attack. Rare Star on the Brink of Going Supernova Photographed by the James Webb Space Telescope

James Webb Space Telescope Wolf-Rayet 124 (WR 124) Star

Photo: NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI, Webb ERO Production Team

In the short time since it was launched into outer space, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has been dazzling the public with stunning views of the universe. A newly released photo by NASA is a reminder of how much incredible imagery is yet to come. This JWST photo of a Wolf-Rayet star named WR 124 is a rare look at one of the luminousand massivestars that exist. And it's a good thing, as this star will soon explode.

Located 15,000 light-years away in the Sagittarius constellation, WR 124 was captured by the telescope in rich detail in June 2022. One of JWST's first observations, the imagery gives an unprecedented look at a Wolf-Rayet star. While these stars are incredibly bright due to their high temperatures, they're rare to see because they signal the end of the road in a star's life.

These enormous stars are showing their last burst of activity before they die out. NASA states that they live fast and die hard before exploding into a supernova. Part of this phase involves shedding their outer layers, which gives them their signature halos of gas and dust. To put into perspective how large these giants are, WR 124 is 30 times the mass of the Sun and has shed 10 Suns' worth of material thus far. As this material cools and blows away from the star, it forms cosmic dust.

JWST's imaging capabilities allow it to see through this dust and let researchers peek behind the curtain, so to speak. Dust is an essential part of the universe for several reasons. According to NASA: It shelters forming stars, gathers together to help form planets, and serves as a platform for molecules to form and clump togetherincluding the building blocks of life on Ea...

Kaspa (KAS) Has Tied with Ethereum Classic (ETC) Among HiveOS Miners "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Checking out the Hive OS Linux Mining OS statistics about what coins and algorithms are the most mined among the users of that mining operating systems today gives quite interesting results. Kaspa (KAS) has tied with Ethereum Classic (ETC) with each at 19% of the coins being mined, followed by Ravencoin (RVN) in third place with 9%, NEXA at 7% and ERGO (ERG) at 5%. KAS has been slowly catching up to ETC in the statistics since the beginning of the year, but now it is about to flip it and become the most mineable coin among HiveOS users (it is still actually less than half percent behind). Of course, HiveOS is not the only Linux-based mining operating system and there are users that are mining directly, still this is one of the largest in terms of users and gives a good overview and insight thanks to the statistics that it provides.

It is interesting to note that in the chart with the algorithms Kaspa (KAS) and its kHeavyHash mining algorithm are apparently at 21% already with Etchash used by Ethereum Classic (ETC) at 20% of the total. There is a slight difference in the percentage here as there are some coins that use the same algorithm for mining and looking at the ore detailed stats with less rounding, we can see that Nicehash-kHeavyHash constitutes at around 1.5% additionally, though listed as a separate entity in the coins section and the Nicehash-EtcHash is at just 0.66%. Among the new coins that are slowly going up, apart from NEXA that is already quite high up at 7.29%, we can also see Dynex (DNX) at 1.43% and Radiant (RXD) at 0.8%.

Take a look at the full Hive OS network statistics for more insights

What Salamanders Tell Us About Our Future on Earth "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

The achoque is a critically endangered species of salamander native to Lake Ptzcuaro in Michoacn, Mexico. It is noted for its regenerative qualities it can regrow lost limbs or even organs. This makes it of interest to religious pilgrims, who purchase an extract from the salamander sold by the nuns of the Baslica de Nuestra Seora de la Salud (Our Lady of Health), who have farmed the animals for over 150 years. It has also drawn the attention of the United States military, which dreams of creating soldiers with the same ability to self-heal. The nuns achoque population is now greater than that in the wild. The opening scene of A Common Sequence follows fishermen failing to find any as they trawl the lake. The documentarys title refers to the fundamental DNA script used to write all life on Earth into being. By observing the lake and two other milieus, the film muses on the different ways that humans assess, categorize, understand, and often exploit the natural world.

Seeing Brooklyn Through Su Friedrichs Lens "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

In her latest film, queer avant-garde filmmaker Su Friedrich used her camera as a tool for observing her surroundings in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood in Brooklyn over the last six years. Today (2022), one of several films screening in Lower Manhattan starting this week, demystifies the popular slogan of living in the moment, characterizing it as accepting what is right in front of us rather than searching for entrenched wonders.

Filming for Today had looser origins, Friedrich told Hyperallergic. What can I see on any given day that I respond to, that makes me happy, that makes me aware of lifes events. There wasnt any particular place to go or activity to film.

Watch Michelle Yeohs Mom Tearful Reaction to Her Daughters Historic Oscar Win

Actress Michelle Yeoh made history with her historic win as Best Actress at the 95th Academy Awards. Yeoh became the first Asian woman to get the award thanks to her work on Everything Everywhere All at Once. While many people were rooting for her in the room, starting with her castmate and good friend Jamie Lee Curtis, someone very special was cheering for her from thousands of miles awayher mom. Now, her moving reaction to Yeoh's win has warmed hearts around the globe.

During her acceptance speech, Yeoh gave her mother, and all the moms around the world, an uplifting shout out. I have to dedicate this to my mom, all the moms in the world, because they are really the superheroes and without them, none of us would be here tonight, the actress said. Shes 84 and Im taking this home to her. Shes watching right now in Malaysia, KL, with my family and friends. I love you guys, Im bringing this home to you.

Meanwhile in Malaysia, where the Oscars ceremony fell on a Monday morning, Yeoh's mother Janet watched it all unfold live, surrounded by friends, family members, government officials, and fans. Footage of the moment actress Halle Berry read Yeoh's name aloud shows Yeoh's mom weeping with joy and smiling as she throws her arms up in the air. Some attendants then get close to embrace her. The other people in the room fist-bump and cheer for Yeoh.

I so love my daughter and she has made Malaysia proud. Malaysia Boleh (Malaysia Can)! Janet said during a news conference after the viewing, according to the Associated Press. She also added that she was very proud of her little princess and recalled that the actress wanted to be a ballerina before joining the film industry. Once the ceremony was over, Yeoh FaceTimed her mom to show her the trophy.

In addition to her mother, Yeoh had other fierce supporters in her family. Her niece Vicki was sure her aunt would be the winner. It was such a jaw-dropping moment, she...

Over 40,000 people have signed a petition urging New York City to help Hot Dog King Dan Rossi, a local celebrity whose cart has been stationed outside the Metropolitan Museum of Art for 15 years. In Dyal Thak, Photographer Kin Coedel Offers an Intimate Glimpse of Life on the Rapidly Changing Tibetan Plateau "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

A photo of a person and yak standing on the landscape, with a blue sky and faint moon in the background

All images Kin Coedel, shared with permission

Nestled between the Himalayas and the Taklamakan Desert, the Tibetan Plateau is sometimes referred to as the third pole. The vast region harbors the largest source of fresh water outside the arctic and supplies 20 percent of the global population with the vital resource. Due to rising temperatures, though, these stores are under threat. The plateau is the fastest-warming region on the planet, and as the Himalayan glaciers melt and infrastructure projects crop up across the landscape, the people living in the area are forced to migrate.

Throughout five visits to the plateau in 2021, Kin Coedel created an intimate series of photographs that document the lives of several nomadic communities. Titled Dyal Thak, a Tibetan word that translates to common thread, the images depict people with profound ties to the land and animals, particularly the long-haired yak, a long-essential source of food, clothing, and economic production. The rapidly progressing effects of the climate crisis are changing agricultural patterns and thus the natural cycles that have been part of life for centuries.

How the Worlds Biggest Dome Was Built: The Story of Filippo Brunelleschi and the Duomo in Florence "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Even if Florence didnt represent the absolute pinnacle of human civilization at the end of the thirteenth century, it had to have been a strong contender for the position. What the city lacked, however, was a cathedral befitting its status. Hence the construction, which commenced in 1296, of just such a holy structure, in accordance with ambitious plans drawn up by architect Arnolfo di Cambio. But when di Cambio died in 1302, work came more or less to a stop for nearly half a century. Construction resumed in 1344 under Giotto, whose own death three years later left the project to his assistant Andrea Pisano, who was himself succeeded by Francesco Talenti, Giovanni di Lapo Ghini, Alberto Arnoldi, Giovanni dAmbrogio, Neri di Fioravanti, and Andrea Orcagna.

None of these architects, however astute, managed to finish the cathedral: in 1418, it still had a gaping hole on top where its dome should have been, and in any case no viable design or engineering procedure to construct one. So they had a competition, and everybody was invited to submit their projects, says Youtuber Manuel Bravo, who tells the story in the video at the top of the post.

People Cant Get Enough of Andrew Garfields Smile at the Oscars "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

People Cant Get Enough of Andrew Garfields Smile at the Oscars

People Are Obsessed With Andrew Garfield's Smile at the Oscars

By the end of the Oscars, there are always numerous moments worth talking about, and this year was no exception. Before the awards were even handed out, British actor Andrew Garfield became an instant internet sensation when the camera cut to him during the monologue and he flashed an awkward and very meme-able smile.

The hilarious expression was shown during Jimmy Kimmel's opening monologue, where the comedian and TV host brought up last year's infamous slap incident between Will Smith and Chris Rock. He playfully mentioned that at this year's Academy Awards, there are plenty of celebrities who play characters capable of protecting Kimmel from an assailant. You're going to have to get through the heavyweight champ, Adonis Creed [Michael B. Jordan], before you get to me; youre going to have to do battle with Michelle Yeoh before you get to me; you're going to have to beat the Mandalorian before you get to me; you are going to have to tangle with Spider-Man, he said.

It was at the very end that the camera cut to Garfield, who played the Marvel hero in The Amazing Spider-Man series between 2012 and 2021. However, the crowdwho was likely expecting to see Tom Holland's face on the screendid not clap right away, so Garfield filled the silence with his uncomfortable, slightly apologetic grin. And people online were instantly charmed by the expression. Everyone else is ready to go and then there's Andrew Garfield regretting every decision he's ever made in his life, help, says one Twitter user. Another person comments: New memes unlocked, thanks to Andrew Garfield and Pedro Pascal.

This is also the second Oscars in a row where Garfield has unintentionally become a meme by being himself. Last year, he was photographed texting on his phone very soon after the slap. This year, it's because of his toothy grin. Hopefully, he continues the trend i...

Man Asks if Hes Wrong for Making His Chronically Late Friend Miss Her Seminar "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

This might make me sound like a jerk, but Im all for teaching folks who are ALWAYS late some lessons.

But thats just my opinion

Check out this story and see if you think this woman was wrong for making her friend who is chronically late miss a seminar.

AITA for making my chronically late friend miss her seminar?

My friend [25F] is constantly late for everything.

Be it work-related or fun activities, she will always be at least 15-20 minute late. She does not have a car, and so oftentimes I [25M] will pick her up from her house (I work at a university and she is a PhD student there, and her place is along the way for me).

Last time I offered her a ride to work, she ended up being 20 minutes late after Ive already arrived at her place. Because of that, I ended up being late for work. She is always very apologetic about her lateness, but never changes.

This week she was supposed to give a seminar at the university which is a crucial part of her PhD program. She asked me if I could give her a ride to work that day. I told her sure, but that I was picking her up at 8 AM and she must be there exactly at 8 AM, and not a minute later. She chuckled, but I told her I wasnt joking, and she promised that she will be there.

The morning of her seminar, I drove to her place and got there at 7:55, and texted her that I was here, and she told me should would be out in just a minute. At 8:00, there was no indication that she would come out (and she didnt text anything), so at 8:01, I drove off.

At around 8:20, she called me asking me where I was. I told her I was at work and that I wasnt joking when I told her that she had to be ready right that minute. She started screaming and crying over the phone, and told...

Antifragile: Serhiy Tron Fights To Bring Bitcoin To Ukraine "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Serhiy Tron, a former boxer, a persistent entrepreneur and the publisher of Bitcoin Magazine Ukraine, fights for stability in an unstable world.

first issue of Bitcoin Magazine in Ukrainian, which can be purchased here.

When Serhiy Tron was born in 1984, his home city was known as Dniprodzerzhynsk, named for the founder of the Bolshevik secret police in the 30s. In 2016, it returned to its historic moniker of Kamianske following a country-wide rejection of Communist suppression, but no matter what the city has been called, it has been the kind of industrial center that powers a country and forges resilient and hardworking people.

Trons mother was an accountant, while his father spent 25 years in military service before working with victims of the Chernobyl nuclear plant disaster. When asked to describe his father, Tron goes quiet and loses his train of thought he asks to hear the question again before describing him as a rigid, willful military man who projected the qualities of command and control.

At age ten, drawing from the lessons of his hardworking city and firm father, Tron began boxing, embarking on what would become a lifetime of dodging blows, battling personal and financial crises and, ultimately, fighting for an open-source software project that he believes will bring much-needed stability to a world beset by recession and inflation.

Heavy Fuel

At the age of 16, Tron channeled the tenacity and determination he was cultivating as a young boxer and started an entrepreneurial journey by launching a heavy fuel oil supply company. He juggled training sessions and business demands while taking university classes in the evenings, but just before turning 19, his dream of boxing professionally came to an end. An accident sent him to the hospital for eight months, where he was forced to learn to walk again. He said goodbye to boxing and decided to pour all of his energy into his business.

When Tron was 22 years old, his father passed away, leaving him as his familys primary breadwinner. By 2010, his company was operating 120 gas stations and five oil depots near Luhansk and Donetsk in Eastern Ukraine. He invested in technology capable of cleaning oil tanks and sold the extracted sediment. As his financial operations grew, he found himself drawn to banking and, in 2011, he invested in Citi Commerce Bank and quickly expanded its footprint from 40 to 185 branches. By that point, the capitalization of all of his businesses stood at almost $1 billion.

Then, his next defining fight began.

In February 2014, the Maidan Revolution, also known as The Revolution Of Dignity, began with deadly clashes between protesters in Kyiv and state forces. With 80% of his business operations located in occupied territories, Tron faced...

El Salvador Launches CUBO+ Educational Program Aimed At Producing Elite Bitcoin And Lightning Developers "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Bitcoin Country seeks to generate world-class Bitcoin and Lightning engineers through a new program utilizing the university system.

El Salvadors Bitcoin Office has announced a new six month educational program entitled CUBO+ that aims to produce elite-level Bitcoin and Lighting developers through the Salvadoran university system.

According to the Office, the program, beginning in May, will consist of a relatively small group of students, under 25, narrowed down from some of the brightest students in El Salvadors universities. The first group will be through students at the University of Don Bosco. They will be competing for the inaugural Plan B Fellowship, funded by Tether and Fulgur Ventures. The project is a result of the recently announced agreement between El Salvador and Lugano, Switzerland for the worlds first Bitcoin Embassy in the Swiss city.

The program will be led and taught by some of the brightest minds in Bitcoin who will be announced soon. Classes will range in topics from high-level technical development specific to Bitcoin, to distributed technologies such as Holepunch, Nostr and Web5. Private funding is responsible for the program, and all students who qualify for the Plan B Fellowship will receive a stipend in order for them to cover the costs of the course.

The first two months of the program will be online, followed by a two week in-person bootcamp, featuring intense full-day courses located in San Salvador. The remaining months will include close online mentorship with the top names in Bitcoin.

The information shared with Bitcoin Magazine described how the program will become a framework upon which others can utilize as an open-source standard for high-level Bitcoin education. Educational experts are participating in the course design which promises to set the standard for other nations to follow.

Students who complete the course will be presented with various options for continuing their Bitcoin journey, including the option to take on a full-time job at reputable Bitcoin companies. Otherwise, entrepreneurial opportunities and continuing education will be available.

The name Cubo+ is derived from a project that President Nayib Bukele started in his Mayor position of San Salvador. When he was mayor, the city would erect buildings in areas that were impoverished, and these buildings served as libraries and community centers for furthering education. The program hopes to draw on this inspiration for building El Salvadors future.

Incredible Winners of the 2023 British Wildlife Photography Awards "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Incredible Winners of the 2023 British Wildlife Photography Awards

Red Fox in Urban Area in England

A Look to the Future by Charlie Page. British Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2023 and Urban Wildlife | Winner.
Animal: Red fox (Vulpes vulpes)
Location: Lee Valley Park, England
I knew this area was reliable for foxes, and I wanted a shot with the industrial backdrop. One day when setting up my camera with a remote shutter release, a fox approached from my left. Hesitant about what to do, I stayed still, and surprisingly the fox stopped right in my frame. I took the shot but was confused why it had come so close. In hindsight, this encounter probably tells the story more than the photo itself. Wildlife has become used to us encroaching on them. I think the felled tree and longing look on the foxs face portray this tragedy perfectly. I hope that all wildlife photography doesnt look like this in years to come.

Amateur and professional photographers celebrated the United Kingdom's incredible wildlife in the British Wildlife Photography Awards (BWPA). Over 13,000 photographs were submitted, which were then narrowed down to an impressive group of winners.

In the adult competition, Charlie Page was named the overall winner after his image of a red fox juxtaposed against an industrial background was judged the best in the competition. Page's evocative photo also won the Urban Wildlife category.

I knew this area was frequented by foxes, and I wanted to take an image with the industrial backdrop to show the devastation caused to this local woodland that the fox calls home, shared Page. I hope that wildlife photographers arent faced with similar scenes in years to come.

The youth competition, which has three age categories, was won by Billy Evans-Freke for his charming image of a tawny owlet resting in a...

Expressive Portraits Emerge from Pieces of Cardboard in Josh Glucksteins Wildlife Sculptures "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

All images Josh Gluckstein, shared with permission

Since childhood, London-based artist Josh Gluckstein has been fascinated by the incredible diversity of our planets wildlife and inspired to make sculptures of animals from found materials. He often uses discarded or recycled materials like clothing from thrift shops or wood from old furniture, and an important aspect of his practice is concern for the environment. I have travelled through Asia, Latin America, and East Africa, and have been fortunate enough to have some incredible wildlife encounters, he says. However, on my travels, even in the most remote locations, I was shocked by the huge amounts of plastic waste.

Much of the garbage that washes up on shorelines around the world is due to an unregulated system in which richer countries export waste to developing countries because it is often cheaper than developing better infrastructures to handle it. Many of the thousands of shipping containers exported each year are often dumped illegally. Gluckstein shares:

I remember going to the Galapagos Islands and visiting a beach famous for a large population of sea lions. It was indeed incredible to see them in the wild, but on every inch of sand not covered by sea lions, there were plastic bottles and cans. It was a heartbreaking sight. I knew I wanted to create artwork that didnt create waste and harm our planet.

Gluckstein fashions life-like portraits of elephants, primates, pangolins, and big cats out of cardboard by tearing, cutting, and gluing pieces together into expressive visages, sometimes applying thin washes of paint for added depth and detail. He often works on...

Its like the poor kid at the elite private college. Get used to being in all the diversity photo shoots for the schools marketing materials.

Unfortunately this omits the most painful parts of the analogy: the poor kids worship the winners and ridicule the middle class kids that miss as losers.

Yes, theyre the ones working the carnival, when they should be the ones burning it down.

And sometimes the poor kid happens to know a rich kid, or knows someone who knows a rich kid, who is very generous and gives him a try.

The poor kid gets lucky and hits the bullseye and hits the jackpot and then the rich kid tells everyone how hard the poor kid worked to make it and how if you too worked hard you can make it too.

Recently, its a lot more like the carnival game with the bottle necks and rubber rings, where you win a fish. So even if you win, you dont really win because a play is $2, and a gold fish in a bag is worth $1.10, and worst of all, you now have a goldfish.
