Long-Exposure Photos Envelop Bonsai Trees With Streams of Bright Light "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Long-Exposure Photos Envelop Bonsai Trees With Streams of Bright Light

Long Exposure Photography of Bonsai Trees by Vitor Schietti

Photographer Vitor Schietti highlights the beauty of bonsai trees in his ongoing series Impermanent Sculptures. Featuring explosions of bright yellow light against a pitch-black background, these long-exposure portraits imbue familiar subjects with a sense of magic. The sparklers dance along the branches and leaves, illuminating the shape of each tree.

In the series of photographs, Schietti captures an array of unique bonsai trees with this method. The light painting is made over one single exposure or, in some cases, through overlaying several images. Trees are such majestic beings. It is not by accident that many cultures have the concept of a tree playing central roles in their creation myths, Scheitti tells My Modern Met. We acknowledge in this ancient form of life, the pioneers of the first cells to breathe sunlight. Trees absorb light so they can inspire us back with their resilience, playfulness, and elegance.

By using light in conjunction with the bonsai tree, Schietti attempts to emphasize the ephemerality of photographs while also celebrating the enduring power of nature. Even though bonsai trees are famously miniature, they are magnified in these intimate portrayals. The small scale representation of their grown natural counterparts allow my strokes of sparkles to reach further through the trees' shape, thus revealing something like its soul, the source of life, the pulsating energy that emanates through the universe, he continues.

You can purchase prints of Schietti's photography via his online shop, and keep up to date with his latest projects by following the artis...

Study Suggests That Early Retirement Can Cause Cognitive Decline "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Study Suggests That Early Retirement Can Cause Cognitive Decline

One of the many advantages of getting older is the prospect of retirement. Relaxing after years of hard work sounds well-deserved, and being able to take advantage of decades of savings sounds tranquil. But when, exactly, should you retire? The typical age ranges across the globe from the early to late 60s, and with life expectancy ranging upwards to the mid-80s worldwide, it makes sense to relish in many years of not working. A new study suggests, though, that early pension programs could have a negative impact, particularly on cognitive functioning.

Researchers Plamen Nikolov and Shahadath Hossaina focused their studies on a fairly new pension program in China that aimed to alleviate concerns of old-age poverty and deal with rising life expectancies. The program started in 2009 and encouraged people to retire soon after turning 60 by offering a stable income. Now, with over a decade of data, researchers are able to study the effects of this program.

Nikolov and Hossaina begin their research article by stating, Economists have mainly focused on human capital accumulation rather than on the causes and consequences of human capital depreciation in late adulthood. In other words, literature in economics, they claim, has historically made the formation of human capital (such as cognitive abilities, education, and health) a priority over the declination of human capital.

Studying how human capital depreciates over the life cycle has powerful economic consequences. Nikolov and Hossaina point out that elderly individuals make crucial and co...

Mom Offers To Pay People To Hang Out With Her Son Who Has Down Syndrome, Gets an Amazing Response "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Mom Offers To Pay People To Hang Out With Her Son Who Has Down Syndrome, Gets an Amazing Response

According to the CDC, in 2008 about 1 out of every 1,200 people living in the U.S. had Down syndrome. While inclusion and job opportunities have increased over the last decades, some people with this condition struggle to maintain a social life once they graduate from school. This was the case of Christian Bowers, a 24-year-old man from Missouri. After seeing him long for friends but not getting to hang with people his age, his mom, Donna Herter, came up with an idea. She'd offer $80 to men between the ages of 20 and 28 to visit him and play video games for a couple of hours twice a month.

Christian is a social bug and when we're in public, he'll invite anyone to join us, Herter said. That's why it broke her heart when he asked her, When are my friends coming over? She didn't know what to do or say.

Determined to fix the situation, Herter made a post on Facebook. Im looking for a young man, between the ages of 20-28 who would like to make some extra money. Two days a month for two hours, Ill pay you to be my sons friend, she wrote, explaining that Bowers doesnt have any friends his age.

Obviously he wont know you are getting paid, but that you are there for him those two days, she said, adding that getting paid wasn't optionalthe money was to guarantee that the person would show up.

Hoping to get one or two applicants among her feed, Herter went to bed. When she woke up, her post had been shared over 6,000 times, reaching people as far as Ireland and Japan. Her words resonated not only with fellow parents of special kids but people from all walks of life who wanted to be friends with Bowers.

In the end, their initial plan came true, and at least four young men visited Christian to play video games and watch movies. The best part? According to Herter, they all have declined the payment. On top of that, Christian's story has inspired more people to make him feel included. He spent Valentine's Day hanging out and eating snacks with a group of officers, whi...

Why We Opened The Belgrade Bitcoin Hub "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

With a rich history and recent evolution, Belgrade is now home to the latest Bitcoin working and presentation space.

This is an opinion editorial by Plumski, a native of Serbia and founder of the Belgrade Bitcoin Hub.

What we now want is closer contact and better understanding between individuals and communities all over the earth, and the elimination of egoism and pride which is always prone to plunge the world into primeval barbarism and strife

Serbian-American inventor Nikola Tesla.

As Bitcoin adoption grows at an unprecedented rate for a new technology, Bitcoiners are setting up physical locations around the world where enthusiasts can work and play in group atmospheres.

For those of us taking part in this Bitcoin "Renaissance" period, it has been a great joy to watch the Bitcoin Beach success story in El Salvador that likely resulted in the country-wide adoption of bitcoin as legal tender. Since such projects are numerous in Africa, Central and South America, Bitcoiners living in Eastern Europe have watched these developments with intrigue. And added to that is the fact that Eastern Europe is economically underdeveloped compared to its Western European counterpart.

Inspired by what we saw in other parts of the world, a small group of Bitcoiners centered in the Serbian capital city of Belgrade recently opened a Bitcoin hub where we want to welcome visitors from around the world.

The Biggest COVID Question: What Will Happen in 10 years? "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

From Dr. Mercola:

Story at-a-glance

  • So far, children have been largely unfazed by COVID-19 because their interferon pathway works really well. Interferon is an immune molecule that protects cells against invading pathogens
  • The COVID jab inhibits the type-1 interferon pathway, so mass injecting young children may actually erase the natural herd immunity against COVID-19 that would develop if all children remained unjabbed
  • Aggressive cancers have exploded among adults who got the shots, even though its only been a little over two years since their rollout
  • Analysis of U.S. Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) data suggests the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is redesignating cancer deaths as COVID deaths to eliminate the cancer signal, and has been doing so since April 2021
  • Weve also seen massive increases in excess mortality from abnormal clotting issues and heart problems since the COVID shots rolled out. If side effects such as cancer, heart disease and stroke are killing working age adults in unprecedented numbers already, what will the excess mortality be, say, 10 years from now if children and teens keep getting mRNA boosters every year?
What will the future hold for people whose exposure to COVID-19 occurs during the first years of life? That question was recently asked by Katherine J. Wu, a staff writer at The Atlantic....

Deconstructing Ancient Art Through Geometry "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

While often overlooked, there is abundant evidence of the intentional use of geometry in the composition of traditional arts, crafts and architecture. This was often accomplished through the use of regular polygons -frequently concentric- to establish proportional systems within a composition.

These associations can create a feeling of unity within the work by harmonizing its disparate elements of form, decoration and purpose. Polygonal composition also allowed the incorporation of number and shape symbolism associated with religion, mythology, culture and the organization of society, within a work of art.

This presentation will reveal the appearance of regular polygons found within round (tondo) creations from across the ancient world. Through many examples well see how polygonal shapes, patterns and proportions have been applied to harmonize the elements of great painting, jewelry, ceramics, sculpture, architecture and more across a variety of cultures and centuries.

Michael S. Schneider is an American author, educator, and speaker who has written several books on sacred geometry, including The Beginners Guide to Constructing the Universe: The Mathematical Archetypes of Nature, Art, and Science. He has also given many talks and workshops on the subject, and is considered an expert in the field. Schneiders work explores the mathematical and geometric principles that underlie the structure of the universe, and how these principles are expressed in art, architecture, and other areas of human creativity. His approach is interdisciplinary, drawing on insights from science, mathematics, art, and spirituality to provide a holistic understanding of the role of geometry in human culture.

Here he has deconstructed illustrations in ancient art through the use of polygonal geometry.

Its almost impossible to find art from the ancient world that is not done with intentional harmonious proportion Michael Schneider

He Turned Away a Friend From His Birthday Dinner Because He Didnt RSVP. Is He a Jerk? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

You RSVP or you dont show up.

Thats how the world works, right?

Well, at least some of the time

So did this guy act like an a**hole when he turned a friend away from his birthday dinner for not RSVPing?

Take a look at this story and let us know what you think in the comments.

AITA for turning away a friend after he showed up to my birthday dinner without RSVPing?

I had a birthday dinner this weekend.

A week before the dinner I sent a mass text out to eight of my friends telling them the location date and time and to let me know by a certain date if they are coming so I can make a reservation at a hibachi place.

Most people said they could come, one friend said they couldnt make it and another friend never responded. A couple days later I was talking to one of the friends I invite about the dinner and they said they thought the friend who didnt answer was coming but they werent sure.

I said that he needs to RSVP so I have the girrest head count for the reservation. I never heard from the friend who didnt respond so I made the reservation accordingly.

I should add that before I made the reservation I texted in the mass text chain with last chance to RSVP Im making the reservation at this time today.

The day of my dinner, the friend who didnt respond showed up right as the hostess was asking for the name of the reservation. I told her that we had an extra person show up and I apologised. She looked to see if she could place all of us but was unable to find a place to accommodate an extra person without us having to wait 2 hours.

So I told the friend who didnt RSVP that he could not join us for dinner. He got mad and told me I was a bad friend. He told me it was embarrassing to be turned away f...

Top Female Cyclist Quits Sport over Transgender Athletes: I Lose No Matter How Hard I Train "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

By David Hawkins, A top female cyclist has announced that shes quitting her sport after being forced to compete against biological male transgender athletes. Hannah Arensman, a 35-time winner on the national cyclocross circuit, issued a heartbreaking statement in an amicus brief filed to the Supreme Court over the sports transgender policy. She revealed that she has been forced to end her career as it has become impossible to beat men who are competing as women. She wrote: I was born into a family of athletes. Encouraged by my parents and siblings, I competed in sports from a young age, and I followed in my sisters footsteps, climbing the ranks to become an elite cyclocross racer. Over the past few years, I have had to race directly with male cyclists in womens events. As this has become more of a reality, it has become increasingly discouraging to train as hard as I do only to have to lose to a man with the unfair advantage of an androgenized body that intrinsically gives him an obvious advantage over me, no matter how hard I train. I have decided to end my cycling career, she said. At my last race at the recent UCI Cyclocross National Championships in the elite womens category in December 2022, I came in 4th place, flanked on either side by male riders awarded 3rd and 5th places. My sister and family sobbed as they watched a man finish in front of me, having witnessed several physical interactions with him throughout the race. Additionally, it is difficult for me to think about the very real possibility I was overlooked for an international selection on the US team at Cyclocross Worlds in February 2023 because of a male competitor. Moving forward, I feel for young girls learning to compete and who are growing up in a day when they no longer have a fair chance at being the new record holders and champions in cycling because men want to compete in our division. I have felt deeply angered, disappointed, overlooked, and humiliated that the...

6 Common Dream Meanings That Should Never Be Ignored "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Our dreams are the gateway to our subconscious, and because we are the creators of our dreams (without even realizing it) our dreams tend to tell us what is brewing beneath the surface. For quite some time, psychologists have understood that the symbology in our dreams directly correlates to what our subconscious mind is trying to tell us.

I have always found dreams to be interesting, not just because its simply beyond understanding as to how amazing it is that we can astral travel in our slumber as a means of working ourselves out. If you dont believe me, below I will go over a few different dreams, what they mean, and why you should NEVER ignore them.

1. Being chased.

Being chased is a common dream and for good reason. Dream experts believe that when you are being chased in a dream, it is likely you are avoiding facing something in your life. It could be that you are buying your emotions, or that you are feeling as though you are getting behind in life. Put simply, something in your life is catching up to you and you are terrified everything is about to blow up. This means that it is time to face the things you are avoiding head-on before things go awry.

2. Taking an exam.

I have had this dream over and over throughout my life and it has always left me feeling super anxious. According to experts, this is a sign that you may be afraid of living up to certain expectations you are holding for yourself or that others are holding for you. It might be time to readjust your expectations and the expectations of others.

3. Dreaming of death.

When you are dreaming of death, it is a sign you are giving too much of yourself and feels unappreciated or as though your efforts are draining you dry. This is a sign of mental exhaustion and a major indicator to reassess how much energy you are putting into certain situations, places, or things.

4. Dreaming of an ex.

When you dream of an ex, this is because you are missing some aspect of how they made you feel. THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU NEED TO GO BACK. What it does mean, is that if you are with someone new, you may be feeling neglected or as though your needs are unmet. You may even subconsciously know that your new person isnt right for you.

5. Missing teeth.

When you are missing teeth in a dream, this is a fear of losing your ability to take care of yourself. Deep down, this dream is rooted in a fear of losing stability, losing your means to take care of yourself and nourish yourself. The reason I say this is that our teeth help us to chew our food. In our instincts, we associate our teeth with our ability to sustain ourselves and survive. You likely feel like you are on the verge of not being able to take care of your own needs. Or, it may be a loss of feeling independence in your own life.

6. Being naked.

Dreaming of being naked is rooted in a fear of being seen. There may be parts of yo...

6 Ways To Respond to Your Childs Mistakes in a Positive Way "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Mistakes are an inevitable part of life, and learning how to respond positively to our childrens mistakes is essential for fostering a healthy parent-child relationship. By approaching these situations with understanding and empathy, parents can help their children develop resilience, problem-solving skills, and a growth mindset. In this article, we will explore six ways to respond to your childs mistakes in a positive and constructive manner.

Empathize with their feelings

When your child makes a mistake, its important to acknowledge their feelings and let them know that its okay to feel upset or disappointed. Validate their emotions and let them know that everyone makes mistakes, and its a natural part of learning and growing. By empathizing with their feelings, you create a safe space for them to process their emotions and move forward.

Avoid blame and criticism

Criticizing or blaming your child for their mistakes can be counterproductive and may lead to feelings of shame and guilt. Instead, focus on the situation and what can be learned from it. Encourage your child to reflect on their actions and consider what they might do differently next time.

Help them understand the consequences

Rather than dwelling on the mistake itself, help your child understand the natural consequences of their actions. This approach allows them to learn from their mistakes and recognize the impact of their choices. Guide them through the process of identifying the consequences and brainstorming ways to rectify the situation or make amends if necessary.

Encourage problem-solving

When faced with a mistake, its essential to foster problem-solving skills in your child. Instead of simply fixing the problem for them, work together to find solutions and encourage them to take an active role in resolving the issue. This collaborative approach empowers your child to take responsibility for their actions and develops their ability to navigate challenges independently.

Praise their efforts and resilience

Recognize and praise your childs efforts to rectify their mistakes and bounce back from setbacks. By focusing on their resilience and determination, you help them develop a growth mindset and foster the belief that they can overcome obstacles and learn from their experiences.

Share your own mistakes

Sharing stories of your own mistakes and the lessons youve learned can help normalize the experience for your child and demonstrate that everyone makes errors. By showing your vulnerability and openness, you can create a supportive environment where your child feels comfortable discussing their challenges and learning from their experiences.

Responding positively to your childs mistakes is crucial for their emotional well-being and personal growth. By empathizing with their feelings, avoiding blame, and encouraging...

7 Risks Of Threatening Your Child With Consequences "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Parenting is a challenging and complex journey, filled with the responsibility of shaping and guiding young minds. While discipline is an essential part of child-rearing, the manner in which it is implemented can have a significant impact on a childs emotional and psychological well-being. Threatening children with consequences is a common disciplinary approach, but it may lead to unintended negative outcomes. This article will explore the risks associated with threatening your child with consequences and suggest alternative approaches to foster a healthier parent-child relationship.

Fear-based parenting

Threatening consequences often instills fear in children, leading them to comply with rules and expectations out of fear of punishment rather than understanding the rationale behind them. This fear-based parenting style can impede a childs ability to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Eroding trust

Consistently threatening consequences can damage the trust between parent and child, making it difficult for the child to feel secure and supported. Children may begin to view their parents as adversaries rather than allies, leading to an unhealthy dynamic within the family.

Increased anxiety

Children who experience ongoing threats of consequences may develop heightened anxiety levels, fearing the potential repercussions of their actions. This constant state of worry can lead to long-term mental health issues, such as generalized anxiety disorder or even depression.

Strained communication

When children are frequently threatened with consequences, open and honest communication can become compromised. Children may be hesitant to share their feelings or discuss challenging situations, fearing that they will be met with threats instead of understanding and support.

Rebellion

Ironically, the excessive use of threats may result in children becoming more defiant and rebellious. This resistance can stem from their desire to assert their independence and control in the face of a perceived authoritarian parenting style.

Impaired self-esteem

Repeated threats can erode a childs self-esteem, leading them to believe that they are incapable of making good decisions or that they are inherently flawed. This negative self-image can have lasting consequences on their overall well-being and success in various aspects of life.

Poor problem-solving skills

Relying on threats as a disciplinary measure can hinder a childs development of effective problem-solving skills. Instead of learning how to navigate challenges independently and effectively, children may become dependent on external control and guidance.

Alternative Approaches to Discipline

To foster a healthier parent-child relationship and promote emotional well-being, consider implementing the following alternative approaches to discipline:

5 Common Relationship Habits That Destroy Your Relationship "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

It is a common misconception that if two perfect people meet, then it should be easy, that things will fall into place and no matter what happens, the relationship will last. However, no matter how perfect your relationship may seem, if your relationship habits are counterproductive, even the best relationship can come to an end.

At the end of the day, it is our habits that make or break our relationships. Of course, some habits stand out above the rest and are what we would refer to as relationship killers. These relationship killers may seem like normal things, however, with the statistics taken into consideration, it is likely best to not just accept behaviors as normal because what is normal isnt always working.

With that said, here are 5 common relationship habits that destroy relationships.

1. Holding your partner in contempt.

According to the Gottman Institute, founded by John Gottman and his wife, who has researched the topic of love for decades, contempt is the number one relationship killer. An example of contempt, is when one partner is constantly degrading or undermining their partner. They may passive aggressive remarks or otherwise make statements that would have you believe they hate their partner.

2. Refusing to work on yourself and grow.

No person is easy to deal with, and I am sorry if you think that you are, because we all have our difficulties. At the end of the day, if you are blaming everything on your partner and refusing to see your part in the relationship, this can make it very hard to resolve issues.

3. Dishonesty.

Dishonesty destroys relationships. While a lie can be moved past in some cases, when lying becomes consistent, making it hard to decipher truth from fiction, it will destroy the trust. If the trust is destroyed, if it can be mended, it will take time.

4. Lack of trust.

Trust is fundamental to relationships. Without it, partners can become obsessive to the point of pushing each other way and at the end of the day, it can get downright toxic.

5. Lack of support.

Relationships are supposed to be two people on a team, cheering the other on, and pushing their partner to achieve their goals. When one partner or both are unable to do that, due to several reasons, its a bad sign that this is going to end in a bad way.

10 Things You Say To Children That Can Cause Eating Disorders "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Eating disorders are complex and multifaceted mental health conditions that often develop during childhood or adolescence. The factors contributing to their development can range from genetic predisposition to environmental influences. One of the most significant environmental factors that can contribute to the development of eating disorders is the way parents and caregivers communicate with their children about food, body image, and weight. This article will highlight 10 common phrases or comments that, when said to children, can contribute to the development of eating disorders.

Youre not leaving the table until you finish your plate.

Forcing children to finish their meal can lead to an unhealthy relationship with food, as they may start to associate eating with punishment or guilt. Instead, encourage children to listen to their bodies and eat until they feel satisfied, not stuffed.

Youll get fat if you keep eating like that.

Labeling food as good or bad and associating it with weight gain can instill fear and guilt in children, potentially leading to disordered eating habits. Teach children about the importance of balanced meals and moderation, without using weight gain as a scare tactic.

You should go on a diet.

Encouraging dieting, especially at a young age, can set children up for a lifetime of yo-yo dieting and an unhealthy relationship with food. Instead of promoting diets, focus on teaching children about proper nutrition, portion control, and the importance of physical activity for overall health.

You have such a pretty face; if only you lost some weight.

This type of comment implies that a childs worth is tied to their appearance, which can lead to body dissatisfaction and a heightened risk of developing an eating disorder. Encourage self-love and body acceptance, regardless of size or shape.

Youve gained some weight; are you okay?

Weight fluctuations are normal for growing children, and making a big deal out of them can create anxiety and lead to disordered eating. Instead of focusing on weight, ask about their overall well-being, including physical and emotional health.

Your sibling is so thin and fit; you should be more like them.

Comparing children to their siblings or peers can create feelings of inadequacy and competition, leading to the development of unhealthy eating habits. Celebrate each childs unique qualities and strengths instead.

Dont eat that; its bad for you.

Labeling certain foods as bad or off-limits can lead to binge eating and feelings of guilt when those foods are consumed. Encourage a balanced and varied diet, emphasizing the concept of moderation and the enjoyment of occasional treats without guilt....

Italian Ghost Town Converted to Residence "IndyWatch Feed Diy"

Thirty-five years ago, Barbara Vareses family began buying abandoned homes in a tiny Italian hamlet, and today she has united all of them into a maze of bedrooms, ancient kitchens, hidden stairways, and converted stables. When the family first began purchasing the properties, many hadnt been lived in for years, so they were just fragments of houses they had to rebuild, but they used as much of the old stone and wood as possible, knocking down walls between buildings to connect everything with hallways and stairs.

When the Vareses first started buying here, there were only two residents of the village of Oretto Italo and Renata and when they died their homes were purchased to complete the village-wide labyrinth. Even the old wooden barn and stone stables were converted into a banquet hall and lounge, respectively.

I wasnt even a minute and a half into episode four of MTVs The Exhibit: Finding the Next Great Artist when artist Jillian Mayer acknowledged that even though this was a competition, she has a lot of friends on the show whom she described as a sweet group of talented creatives. With only two episodes to go, even the magic of friendship cannot revive the shows fading heartbeat as the competing artists addressed the themes of justice and injustice in this weeks round.

Honestly speaking, this has been the most lifeless episode so far, and that surprised me considering a number of the competing artists personal practices tackle intersectionality and minority perspectives. I think what made it so yawn-worthy was the fact that I havent seen any growth or inventiveness from the artists thus far (save for Jamaal Barber, whom Ill get to later), but instead a stagnant reliance on existing skills, knowledge, and canons to win the $100,000 prize and an exhibition at the Hirshhorn. Its just becoming painful to sit through another episode knowing exactly what each artist is going to create before their studio time even starts.

A Secret Device That can Look Backward Into the Past? "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Image result for Chronovisor Footage

Recently a clergyman serving at the Vatican made a discovery. Deep in the archives hidden below the ground levels a strange instrument exists. A device that can look into the past and produce images. Described as the Chronovisor, somehow it has remained hush and spoken of little though it has been in existence for hundreds of years. The Monsignor who viewed it and glanced back into the past claimed to have seen images of Jesus on the way to his crucifixion. He wanted to make the truth known about this device, but was reprimanded and an effort to see that this bizarre instrument remains under wraps resulted.

Can looks be deceiving?

There have been many allegations that there are photos of time travelers in historic pictures or even in routine photographs going back into the 19th Century, odd looking people not fitting into the rest of the crowd wearing futuristic apparel and even possessing what appears to be a cell phone. However, with the use of editing software such as Photo Shop almost anything can be faked with little chance of hiding the process. From Miami in 1966 comes the story of a little boy who finds an apparent crystalline device that shows futuristic visions on its small screen. The story is picked up by the local paper with no follow up at all. It may also have been mentioned in local TV news coverage as well. So an amazing discovery quickly fades away, but the question is, did the US government confiscate the device? Well never know for sure.

Another secret Nazi invention?

From World War II Germany comes another bizarre story of a device that the operator could use to see visions from the past, but also serve as an anti-gravitational machine as well as being an offensive weapon! Die Glocke, nicknamed, The Bell it was actually bell shaped. The machine was said to have two rotating cylinders within supposedly containing a secret fluid perhaps mercury. When heat or electricity is applied to mercury it is known to rotate clockwise in the northern hemisphere with bizarre conductive characteristics. Like so many other secret weapons and aircraft being developed by the Nazis in some desperate way of overcoming the overwhelming odds of the allies winning the war, Die Glocke was yet another mysterious design and question mark over the science the Germans acquired that allowed for such incredible developments.

Florida Principal Ousted Over Pornographic Michelangelo Sculpture "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

A Florida principal has resigned under pressure from the school board after three parents complained that an art teacher had shown Michelangelos statue of the biblical shepherd David (15011504) to their 11- and 12-year-old sixth-graders. One parent even said the famous artwork was pornographic. The art teachers lesson was part of the curriculums mandatory unit on Renaissance art.

Now the Board Chair of the Tallahassee Classical School a public and free charter institution is using the resignation as an opportunity to advocate for parents rights, a conservative talking point that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis codified with the 2021 Parents Bill of Rights.

Parents Purchase 2 Container Homes For Teenage Daughters To Live In Backyard "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Living with teenagers can be a struggle because while your teen likely wants independence, you also want to make sure they are close by. One family found a really amazing solution to this problem that likely make inspire you.

Matt and Linda are from Henderson, Nevada. They have three children, and as their kids began to grow into teens, they began to understand that their kids needed more privacy and also their own space. After looking and looking, they did finally stumble upon a home that they loved, however, there was one issue: there simply was not enough space for each of their kids to have their own room.

Of course, the home did have a huge backyard, which lead the parents to a solution that was completely unique. Instead of ditching their dream home, they decided to purchase some small container homes that would fit perfectly in their backyard. In their minds, they could one day house their elderly parents or even rent the spaces for some extra cash when their daughters went to university.

Matts favorite part was that his daughters would still live at home while having their own space. It gives our teenage daughters some autonomy and some space but [theyre] still in the backyard.

The one drawback was that this was not the cheapest solution because the container homes they chose were 116,000 Euros (131,000 USD.) Of course, what tiny house isnt complete without some furnishing, so they spent around 8,000 euros to furnish it. Each container home included a huge, open living room, kitchenette, bathroom, and bedroom that can fit a double bed.

Each kitchenette includes its own fridge and microwave. Additionally, they each had a television and a corner couch that serves as a guest bed. In order to share their story with the world, Matt and Linda started a YouTube page, called Tiny House Giant Journey. Since airing the clip they posted about their daughters living situation, the couple has gotten over 1.5 million views!

7 Ways to Keep Your Kids Honest "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

As parents, we all have values that we wish to instill in our children because we want them to turn into good humans. One of those important values, at least in my household, is honesty.

Lets face it: kids tend to tell lies as they reach those years in which they realize they can. They do it for a number of reasons, including to avoid getting in trouble or to get what they want. When your child tells you a lie and you figure it out, it can be disheartening. However, your response to their lie can make all the difference in the world. If you want to help your child become honest, its important that you make honesty a focus. Here are 7 ways to do that.

1. Model honesty.

If you want to raise honest children, then you have to be honest, too. Why? At the end of the day, you can tell your child to do whatever you wish, but kids pay attention to what we do and how we speak. Ultimately, they pay attention to our actions more so than our words.

2. Do not set them up.

It might be tempting to set your child up to lie. However, when you do this, you are basically encouraging them to lie and then reprimanding them for it. Ultimately, this sends the wrong message.

3. Reward truth.

Make sure that you praise them when you see them telling the truth. Humans, kids especially, learn through praise and reward. So, if you honor honesty, then make sure you notice it when it is present.

4. Make honesty a positive focus.

While your kids are young, make sure they realize that honesty is an important value to you and your family. Of course, be age-appropriate, however, when the subject of lying and honesty comes up, explain how lying breaks trust.

5. Avoid labeling.

When you notice your child lying, do not label them as a liar. Their behavior might be lying, but your kids are not their behavior. When you put a label on your child, they might decide to live up to it.

6. Do not reward lies.

Do not reward lies. As soon as you realize your child is lying, you need to address the behavior.

7. Give consequences.

Make sure that there are always consequences for lying. It is best to already have a consequence in mind, so there is no thought about what will happen because they will already know. Then, as soon as you notice the behavior, you need to consistently enforce consequences.

Vinyl Surpasses CD Sales for the First Time Since 1987

Media changes fast. From wax cylinders to disc records to cassette tapes and CDs to MP3 files and streamingthe ways we enjoy music have changed a lot since the late 19th century. Since the 1950s, record discs made of polyvinyl chloride have preserved the melodies of everyone from Elvis and Little Richard to The Beatles and Donna Summer. However, in the late 1980s, cassette tapes and CDs chipped away at the records primacy as the most sold musical format. While streaming is the music format of choice of today, vinyl has had a sort of resurgence. In fact, sales of vinyl records have surpassed that of CDs for the first time since 1987. This rise in vinyls popularity is due in part to young consumers embrace of the nostalgic medium.

According to the Recording Industry Association of Americas (RIAA) annual revenue report, vinyl records sold 41 million units last year compared to 33 million CDs. Vinyl has been on the rebound for about 15 years; but in the last few, sales have skyrocketed. Vinyl sales increased by 17% since 2021, whereas CD sales dropped 18%. Similar trends have been recorded in recent years in the UK, Germany, Japan, and other countries. While Dad's old vinyl is still just as cool, modern albums are selling vinyl as well. Taylor Swift's records sold 1.7 million copies last year, while Harry Styles reached 719,000.

The RIAA found that streaming totaled 84% of total music revenue in 2022a shocking high of $13.3 billion. Download sales, however, are falling out of popularity, dropping to only $495 million in sales. Vinyl's resurgence in popularity cannot be attributed to convenience like the rise of streaming. Instead, it speaks to a preference among many music lovers for the unique sound captured by records....

In the cavernous 18th-century chapel at <a href= "https://ysp.org.uk" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Yorkshire Sculpture Park</a>, a new installation by artist <a href= "https://leonardodrew.com" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Leonardo Drew</a> (<a href= "https://www.thisiscolossal.com/tags/leonardo-drew/">previously</a>) explodes toward the ceiling in a massive plume, scatting shards, dust, and tiny fragments of material around the space. Titled Number 360, the work is comprised of blackened and painted plywood that brings chaos and destruction to the otherwise stark, quiet sanctuary. The central surge of the installation reaches five meters tall to fill the entirety of the chapels nave, while small paths are left clear to move through the immersive rupture.</p> <p>Born in Tallahassee but raised in Connecticuts notorious <a href= "https://www.nytimes.com/1994/07/09/nyregion/bridgeport-housing-project-to-close-a-victim-of-crime.html" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Bridgeport Housing Project</a>, Drew spent much of his childhood scrounging waste materials and repurposing them into what were his earliest artworks. What is Kyawthuite? The Rarest Mineral on Earth is a Single 1.6-Carat Specimen. "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Kyawthuite is the only mineral on Earth known from only one sample. The transparent reddish-orange stone, weighing 1.61 carats, was found near Mogok, Myanmar, and was recognized by the International Mineralogical Association in 2015. So, what do we know about this rarest of crystals?

Kyawthuites chemical formula is Bi3+Sb5+O4, with traces of tantalum. Both bismuth (Bi) and antimony (Sb) are rare metals, but not especially so. Youll find more bismuth than gold and more antimony than silver on the planet, and of course, oxygen is our most abundant element.

According to the mineral database at Caltech, kyawthuite is composed of checkerboard sheets of octahedra Sb5+O6 parallel to Bi3+ atoms. Sapphire hunters discovered the specimen, the only recognized bismuth-antimony oxide, in a stream bed. It is named after Dr. Kyaw Thu, a former geologist at Yangon University.

Couple Renovating Their Kitchen Discovers 400-Year-Old Paintings Hidden Underneath

17th-Century Mural Discovered Under Kitchen Panels in North of England

A life-sized image of the mural from Historic England. (Photo: Luke Budworth)

In the north of England, a young couple and their dog moved out of their flat in December 2022 to allow workers to come in and remodel their kitchen. Luke Budworth, 29, and Hazel Mooney, 26, were then surprised by a call from one of the workmen asking about a painting behind the cabinets. They had not previously known of its existence. It turns out, this wasnt just any ordinary painting and the couple would be in for a big surprise.

After the initial discovery, the couple returned home. The workers had finished their job, and the new cabinets now covered the mural, but Budworth suspected the mural might wrap around the wall in the open floor-plan apartment. The couple removed some paneling to find that was correct. The mural continued along the top of the wall. It was painted the same as the rest of the wall and I knew it was hollow, Budworth said to CNN. I always thought it was probably just covering some pipes.

The painting depicts Biblical scenes and has scrolling text beneath. It measures about 9 feet by 4 feet, cut off by the ceiling. Experts from Historic England were called to investigate. They photographed and examined the mural, realizing it dated to sometime between 1635 and 1700meaning its almost 400 years old. On the prior date, Francis Quarles published a book entitled Emblems. Scenes from this work are depicted in the painting. By 1700, however, this style of frieze was out of fashion. The Grade II listed Georgian building in York's historic Micklegate neighborhood was constructed in 1747. This strange timeline suggests that the wall bearing the work was removed from another building and then the present home was build around it.

Although originally discovered in 1998, the painting had been paneled over. Its rediscovery is important, according to a statement by Historic England...

New Study Identifies Surprising Group of People Who Overestimate Their IQ "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

A new study found that in addition to young men, older women think their IQ scores are significantly higher than they are. The research considered each subjects intelligence quotient (IQ) and emotional quotient (EQ), surprisingly, women overestimated their IQs as they got older.

Using IQ to test the nuances of intelligence is controversial among scientists. While the single assessment is limiting and doesnt account for social and environmental factors, IQ has been linked with higher results in life achievements, such as economic and academic success.

This latest study, published in Brain and Behavior, measured peoples self-estimated intelligence (SEI), whether their perceived IQ is close to their actual IQ. SEI studies are well documented among young people, but the authors wanted to extend their age parameters.

One of the many nightmares parents face when traveling with their children is ending up separated from them on a plane. Since many airlines assign seats randomly at check-in, families sometimes end up scattered across different rows. That's when theyre face with the awkwardness of asking a stranger to swap seatswhich some even paid forso their little ones don't have to be on their own. This happened to musician Chance the Rapper on a recent flight. Surprisingly, before he even thought of making a request to his seat neighbor, the man offered to swap places so that Chance and his 7-year-old daughter, Kensli, be seated next to each other. It wasnt until later that he realized the identity of the good samaritan.

So I just got on this plane with my daughter, and found out our seats werent next to each other, Chance the Rapper tweeted. I really aint wanna inconvenience anyone by asking them to swap seats, but before I could say anything this kind older gentleman offered his seat to Kensli so we could sit together. We both said thank you and as he stands up, I realize its THE Martin Short!! he revealed.

Thanks to his storied career in comedy and film, Short has fans of all ages. To make the situation even more adorable, Chance revealed that his daughter loves Short. So cool and Kensli freaked out cause shes obsessed with The Santa Clause 3, he continued, adding a screenshot of the actor in the movie. What an awesome person! SHOUTOUT TO JACK FROST.

His tweet quickly went viral, earning over 300,000 likes but most importantly, sparking a debate: who would miss out on Short's company? My daughter could have sat by herself. Marty would have been a delight,...

Nasdaq Eyeing Q2 2023 Release For Bitcoin And Crypto Custody Platform "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The exchange giant is joining Fidelity and BNY Mellon in the pursuit of their own cryptocurrency custody platform.

Nasdaq, an American stock exchange based in New York City, is reportedly looking at Q2 2023 for the release of its custody services for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Senior Vice President and Head of Nasdaq Digital Assets Ira Auerbach said that Nasdaq is pushing ahead to get all the necessary technical infrastructure and regulatory approvals in place.

The report describes an infrastructure that might look similar to that of Fidelity Digital Assets, which quietly opened its operations to the public last week. The first step to bitcoin and cryptocurrency trading on Nasdaq would be the custody service for the assets.

According to the Bloomberg report, Nasdaq has applied to the New York Department of Financial Services for a limited-purpose trust company charter, which would oversee the new business.

Launching just as several major cryptocurrency firms have collapsed, amidst increasing regulatory tension, the goal is seemingly to offer those customers who now have no platform, a regulated, well-trusted American service for bitcoin.

It should be noted that many of the issues surrounding exchanges come from the third-party risks presented by a custodian holding bitcoin for customers. The most secure way to interact with bitcoin is to self-custody it with your own wallet. Although trading platforms do offer the ease of interaction created by custodianship, with the American financial system seeing precarious headlines as of late, it is important to consider these trade offs compared with traditional bitcoin self-custody.

NHL Players Who Refuse to Wear Pride Jerseys Are Facing Authoritarian Media Backlash "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Theres something deeply unhealthy happening in the National Hockey League (NHL) this year. Week after week, a different NHL team hosts a Pride Night to celebrate the LGBTQA+ community and, week after week, a new controversy emerges where a player is berated by mass media for not complying.

As the controversies pile up, theres a bizarre, authoritarian pattern emerging where players must either submit or be shamed by mass media for days on end.

The main problem of these Pride Nights: ALL players from the home team are required to skate around while wearing rainbow flag jerseys during warmups and/or games. By forcing players to be draped in the pride flag on jerseys that bear their last names these celebrations turned into some kind of authoritarian pledge of allegiance. And those who refuse to wear these jerseys are suffering authoritarian consequences: Character assassination from elite-sponsored media.

Did you know that Communist China engaged in similar tactics during its Cultural Revolution?

Heres a short timeline of what has been happening in the NHL.

Ivan Provorov

The controversies began in January when Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov opted out of participating in warmups with his teammates. The reason: Players had to skate around with rainbow jerseys and rainbow tape on their sticks.

Kusudama cherry blossom. Courtesy of praaeew, CC0, via Wikimedia Commons.

As I get older, and the world gets worse, or gets differently bad, or stays the same but my understanding of its badness deepens and broadens, I grow ever more dependent upon books like Akwugo Emejulus Fugitive Feminism. This short, sharp text reminds readers that, like the rattling door in a haunted house or the concerned face of a friend who understands well the way a lover is slowly bringing about your annihilation, it is good to leave that which does not serve you. Fleeing, as in the case of the enslaved from the plantation, is no act of cowardice but a tremendous gesture toward liberation.

The flight Emejulu encourages is not from a place but from a conceptual space. Referencing the work of Black critical theorists like Sylvia Wynter, Fugitive Feminism troubles the notion of the human, arguing that it is not a neutral, objective term for one type of mammal but a philosophical and political category informed by colonialism that, from its invention, excluded Blackness and Black people. For years, many have fought (to no avail) to be, for once, called and acted upon as humans, but for Emejulu, there is nothing to be reclaimed in that cursed white supremacist taxonomy. When we stop seeking inclusion into a category built on genocide and eugenics, there is freedom to explore other ways of being, seeing, and doing.

Emejulus writing is clear, evocative, and concise, and while readers with no background in the subject material may find places where they need to spend more time, ...

Turning The Table (2022), from the book Idea Diary. All images Christoph Niemann, shared with permission

The act of drawing, of envisioning an idea and conveying it visually, produces the same feelings in Christoph Niemann as it did when he was a child. A wildly successful artist, author, and animator with a keen wit, Niemann reiterates in a new interview that there is no trick to making the creative process easier.

Its actually kind of comforting that the reality of drawing is that theres no secret. Most artists have doubt. Ive always wondered: is there a secret? Is there something I dont know? Is there a trick that people have to make less difficult? From what Ive found, there isnt! What Im doing today is exactly the same thing, with different tools, with different input, but exactly the same thing that I was doing when I was 12.

In this conversation, Niemann discusses his practice and process, how he consumes news and culture, and how his openness when experiencing a new city or space has changed since the pandemic began. The conversation veers from poetry, distillation, and the purpose of art to the downsides of pitching and finally, to his profound and enduring love for the humble act of putting ink on paper.

Man Needed a New Prosthesis for His Finger So He Turned to Reddit for Help

3D Printed Prosthesis

Photo: Reddit

Reddit can be a seemingly magical place where people find each other. And for one Redditor named Adam, the connection hes made there has changed his life. Adam was in need of a new prosthesis for half of his pinky finger. The cost wouldve been astronomicalin the ballpark of $15,000 to $20,000. His insurance turned him down and he couldnt afford it out of pocket. So, he did what many folks do when they need help or advice: Adam posted to various subreddits looking for someone to print a prosthesis for him.

Eventually, Adam found someone who could help. A fellow Redditor named Known_Hippo4702 took an existing design and worked to customize it. Several versions later, Adam wrote, they have thumb. It's been a learning process but they have a skill that blows me away and have printed me a new finger for several thousand dollars less than what I was being offered.

Prosthetics like Adams are expensive and must be replaced every few years due to typical wear and tear. So, they are costly and continue to be so in perpetuity. [3D printing] is going to change the industry, Adam asserts.

A new subreddit is helping usher in such change. Called Print for Good, it's a place where those who need helpand think 3D printing can do itcan share their needs and connect with Redditors who have 3D printers. If you fall into one of thos...

There's nothing that says spring quite like flowers. And whether fresh or artificial, colorful blooms are a great way to jazz up your style. Specifically, if you are looking to add a bit of charm to your hairstyle, incorporating flowers into your hair is a great way to go. While floral hair accessories are often associated with brides, there are also plenty of casual accessories that can be worn every day.

And, it doesn't matter whether you have a short style or love long braids, as there are hair clips, combs, bobby pins, and scarves that are suited for all styles. If you like to stand out in a crowd, you might like a large flower hairpin. Or, if you are looking for something more subtle, some beautiful barrettes made from smaller, fresh flowers will do the trick.

Whether it's a special occasion or a wedding, a hair vine can provide a touch of class. If you are looking for a tropical vibe, there's even a bird-of-paradise comb that will make you feel like you're in Hawaii. Anyone looking for something more casual will also appreciate some cute daisy ponytail holders or a floral hair scarf that also doubles as a scrunchie.

Check out all of our ideas for how to incorporate flowers into your hair thanks to these creative accessories and start celebrating spring in style.

What is a Wallet? Guide to storing Bitcoin "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

After you receive bitcoin, youll need to store it in a secure digital wallet. This guide helps you understand what a wallet is and how there are different wallets to suit your needs.

A wallet is where you typically store your bitcoin after purchase, just like a physical wallet is used to keep your cash and cards.

Once you understand bitcoin and are ready to buy it, earn it or receive it as payment in exchange for goods and services, you should set up a wallet so that your counterpart has a digital address to send the bitcoin to.

Your wallet must also be secure and robust for storing your bitcoin. Nowadays, there are plenty of digital wallets to choose from and this guide offers comprehensive information to help you make the right choice.

Wallets can be hardware-based or software-based, can be downloaded on a mobile device, on a computer desktop or stored on paper by printing a QR code that enables access to the private keys.

WHAT IS A BITCOIN WALLET

A bitcoin wallet is an electronic device that allows you to send, receive and access your funds, similar to how a traditional wallet stores your banknotes or coins. In contrast with a physical wallet, a bitcoin wallet does not store actual coins but the private key cryptographic data that proves ownership and gives access to the actual money that is held on the blockchain.

Losing the private key or having it stolen is a Bitcoiners worst nightmare because it means the funds are lost. This is why securing this cryptographic data is the first thing you need to do when you acquire or receive bitcoin. Your private key could also be lost through hacking, phishing, computer malfunctions or the loss of the device itself.

In light of what happened to Celsius, Voyager, Three Arrows Capital and FTX in 2022, when they lost all their customers bitcoin through poor business practices, leading to their bankruptcies, the case for self-custody could not be stronger. While these bankruptcies were a difficult pill to swallow for the cryptocurrency industry, they were not Bitcoiners first rodeo with bankrupt exchanges, for the Mt. Gox hack in 2014 led to the initial movement of not your keys, not your coins, which has continued to this day.

Bitcoiners often refer to themselves as sovereign individuals. To be a sovereign individual, you must take self-custody of your BTC. To do this, you must learn ab...

When the Left has grown so completely insane that even Bernie Sanders has to put his foot down... "IndyWatch Feed Survival"

"Do I think we should not have police departments in America? No, I dont. Theres no city in the world that does not have police departments, the Democratic socialist responded.

I didnt call for more money for police departments. I called for police departments that have well-educated, well-trained, well-paid professionals. And, too often around this country right now, you have police officers who take the job at very low payment, dont have much education, dont have much training ...

When the Left has grown so completely insane that even Bernie Sanders has to put his foot down...
