Watch a Young Cellist Successfully Complete One of the Hardest Cello Pieces Ever "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Watch a Young Cellist Successfully Complete One of the Hardest Cello Pieces Ever

Brannon Cho playing Prokofievs Sinfonia Concertante in 2018

When you think of the most famous cellists of our time, cello masters like Yo-Yo Ma come to mind. But back in late January, an unexpected clip from a 2018 performance skyrocketed on Reddits r/toptalent that shared the prowess of Brannon Cho.

The post was titled Brannon Cho playing Prokofievs Sinfonia Concertante, arguably the hardest cello piece ever. Cho, who was only 24 years old at the time, is seen fervently playing the string instrument with incredible speed. The entire piece is about 40 minutes long, and as James M. Keller for the San Francisco Symphony describes, the [cello] is active nearly throughout, with strikingly little time off. Its divided into three long movements. Each movement has a variety of tempos and showcases the wide range of capabilities the cello has.

The part of the clip that has surged in popularity is at the very end of the piece, which is also the most replayed portion of the performance on YouTube. Keller describes this portion: The solo cello eventually intones a motif consisting of arpeggios. That marks the final sprint towards the finish line, by which point the cellists arpeggios have led to the stratosphere of the instruments range.

As Cho alludes in his Instagram post, the cello-orchestra...

Betsey Lewis: Earth and Alien Stargates "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"

Einstein and astrophysicists have long theorized the existence of wormholes throughout the universe allowing humans to travel across time and space within minutes or hours. In Stargates, Betsey Lewis, Earth Mysteries Investigator for nearly 50 years, reveals for the first time there are countless stargate portals on planet Earth used by extraterrestrials to travel the intergalactic highway.

Stargates exist everywhere on Earthover land under our oceans and on planets. Government and military have known about the Stargates and ETs but have denied their existence publicly until recently when Naval pilots revealed they tracked them on radar off the coast of Southern California, a hot spot for UFOs. Discover the locations of the worldwide portals where UFOs are witnessed, human abductions take place, and inexplicable events happen. Discover how ETs incorporate advanced holographic imaging to create certain historical dramas. Lewis recounts amazing stories of human abductions, human cloning, cattle mutilations, and human genetic experiments to alter DNA. The most shocking revelation is the U.S. military has been colluding with extraterrestrials for over 50 years.

In November 2017, Robert Bigelow, billionaire, and previous owner of Skinwalker Ranch for 20 years, was interviewed on CBS 60 Minutes and asked if the aliens are already here. He replied, "They are right under people's noses." Lewis believes Bigelow's strange remark suggested, aliens are right under our feet and under our oceans!"

Betsey Lewis (aka B.E. Lewis) is an author, radio personality, world-renowned psychic, and Earth mysteries investigator. At eight months old Betsey and her parents encountered a UFO in Northern Idaho and may have been abducted by aliens for two hours during their missing time. This began a lifetime of paranormal experiences for her. For over forty-five years, Lewis has investigated UFOs, cattle mutilations, ancient petroglyphs in Idaho and Nevada, ancient civilizations from the Northwest to Central America, UFOs, and other Earth mysteries. She was a keynote speaker at the 2013 UFO Conference near Las Vegas and a keynote speaker at the 2018 Stargate to the Cosmos in Albuquerque, New Mexico and has been a featured guest on Foxs KTRV News, Coast-to-Coast AM, Ground Zero, KTALKs The Fringe, Fade to Black, KCORs Hyperspace, and other popular radio shows. She predicted on Newsmax that Donald Trump would win the 2016 election six months before he was elected as U.S. President. To learn more about Betsey Lewis visit her website at: www.BetseyLewis.com.

Dog Mom Is Shocked to Watch Her Freshly Groomed Pup Descend Into Giant Mud Puddle "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Dog Mom Is Shocked to Watch Her Freshly Groomed Pup Descend Into Giant Mud Puddle

Photo: Screenshot from TikTok

For many dog parents, bathing their pets or taking them to a grooming salon is a whole ordeal. But the results are worth it for a squeaky clean pup that smells nice and has a fluffy coat. Unfortunately for some, there's little time to enjoy it before their pooches decide to roll in the dust, make a hole in the garden, or get soaked in the rain. One particular dog named Luna decided she had had enough of being cleanmuch to the dismay of her humanwho captured a painfully funny video of her pet having the time of her life playing in the mud.

Luna's owner, Fernanda Kreibich, had just had the dog washed and groomed; her white coat was extra shiny and soft. The pair then decided to pay a visit to Kreibich's fiance's outdoor worksite. Since it had rained, many puddles had formed on the premises. Suddenly, the pooch decided to follow two other dogs at the worksite into a large puddle. In a matter of milliseconds, the once spotless white pup was covered in mud.

The craziest part? Kreibich describes Luna as averse to getting dirty, usually keeping herself clean and going as far as avoiding getting her paws wet. She doesnt like it, Lunas mom explained. She wont even step on the grass after its rained. Shes super clean. That's why her reaction to seeing her pet have a change of heart regarding dirt led her to react to her new love for mud with the words, My god.

I dont know what happened. I couldnt believe it. She was having fun [in the mud], Kreibich said, still finding it hard to believe. She was super proud.

While many would only sigh at having to take their pet back to the groomer, the dog mom is happy...

XRP Trading Volume Slumps While Price Gains "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Since 2020, XRP has struggled to remain relevant and valuable to its investors. The US Securities and Exchange Commissions attack on the project brought a drastic decline that no one expected. However, amid the ongoing case, XRP showed resilience, leading supporters to commend it as an asset to watch.

Even though the price has seen some pullbacks and rallies, the trend aligns with the fluctuations in the overall crypto market due to environmental factors. But today, the global market cap is up by 0.06%. XRP surpassed the first five assets with a 2.33% price gain in 24 hours.

XRP Price Gains Even With Declining Network Activities

The current price outlook for XRP is positive. The controversial asset trades above its 50-day and 200-day simple moving averages.

XRP price is $0.4814, with a 2.33% increase in 24 hours. Its seven-day price gains also show an addition of 5.89% in the same time frame. The hourly price change is also green, and CoinMarketCap data indicates the asset recorded a price change of 2.87% since yesterdays closing price of $0.4803.

The difference between XRPs opening and closing price indicates an uptrend since April 28, and continuing today. Theres hope for more gains as it remains above its SMAs.

Ripple XRP

However, the trading volume is declining by 48.86% in 24 hours. This indicates the traders uncertainty, given the upcoming summary judgment by Judge Torres.

XRP Technical Outlook

The Simple Moving Average (SMA) indicator computes the closing price of XRP in the nearest days. Since XRP is trading above its 50-Day and 200-Day Simple Moving Average (SMA), there are strong bullish signals in the market in the coming days to weeks.

For the past 39 days, March 21, 2023, there have been persistent Buy signals from the 200-Day SMA, while the 50-Day Buy Signal occurred in the last two days, April 27. As such, the XRP price may experience more rallies, resulting in price volatility for the asset.

On the other hand, the Relative Strength Index (RSI) value of XRP is 49.02 at the time of writing. Its upward movement shows that the indicator is...

Fluorescent Photographs by Tom Leighton Highlight the Remarkable Complexities of Plants After Dark "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

All images Tom Leighton, shared with permission

Plants are incredible stores of energy, says photographer Tom Leighton, whose fluorescent-tinged images of foliage highlight the incredible night life of plants in his ongoing Variegation series. He explores the detailed colors and textures of leaves and stems, accentuating an important counterpart to the complex daytime process of photosynthesis, which creates chemical energy and oxygen from sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide. After the sun fades, the process of photosynthesis stops and respiration begins, he says. Plants begin to burn their stored sugars and breathe back in some of the precious oxygen they have created.

Leighton primarily focuses on species found around his native Cornwalloften in his own gardenand captures contrasting venation patterns, serrated edges, and multiple colors. He digitally removes the green tones we associate with vegetation to reveal glowing violet, pink, and blue hues. It is very experimental There are limitless options and techniques that I combine to get to each finished image, he says, sharing that a minor color choice or a small crop can transform the outcome.

Sumptuous Boutique Hotel in India Is a Hidden-Gem Swathed in Red "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Sumptuous Boutique Hotel in India Is a Hidden-Gem Swathed in Red

Bedroom at Villa Palladio Jaipur

Inspired by the tradition of great hotels of the past, Villa Palladio Jaipur is a country estate that transports guests to another world. The brainchild of entrepreneur Barbara Miolini, this nine-room boutique hotel located just outside Jaipur, India, opened its doors in September 2022. Nestled on three acres, the estate has been transformed into an opulent retreat thanks to Miolini and Dutch designer Marie-Jean Oudejans.

Miolini and Oudejans had a lot to work with, as the property's existing Rajasthani haveli was in good shape and provided a starting point for other renovations. Not only did they create a large veranda and pool house, but they also worked with a landscaper to transform the grounds into a Mughal garden filled with water features.

In terms of aesthetics, Villa Palladio Jaipur combines European and Indian sensibilities. The white exterior is accented with pops of red; the color provides a through line, as the interiors are painted in different shades ranging from deep crimson to cherry red. And, in keeping with Jaipur's reputation as the Pink City, pink accents pop up across the villa. Black and white checkboard floors provide a contrast to the floral motifs painted on the walls, giving the space an eclectic, retro feel that is reminiscent of a 19th-century Grand Hotel.

Pillars, niches, and multifoil arches all add to the architectural interest of the villa, while the local, hand-crafted Rococo furniture fits the space perfectly. For all of its visual interest, Villa Palladio is remarkably balanced. Miolini and Oudejans have walked the line between visually pleasing and overwhelming perfectly. While there is always something to see, it's always just enough to leave one satisfied.

In addition to the luxurious surroundings, guests are also provided with plenty of amenities. These include cocktails at the pavilion bar, an extravagant breakfast feast, as well as spa treatments, and a yoga room that overlooks the garden. And, of course, the...

Cosmos (ATOM) Price Displays Intense Momentum Whats Driving The Rally? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Cosmos (ATOM) demand has risen these past few days, resulting in a significant performance. According to CoinMarketCap data ATOM price has fallen to $11.69 after gaining momentum.

The current market cap of ATOM is $3.3 billion, with a 24-hour trading volume of $100 million. However, the trading volume is still down by 31.18%, indicating reduced network activity.

Reason Behind The Surge In Cosmos?

Cosmos is a constantly growing network of interconnected blockchains created with developer-friendly application components.

Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol is the technology that connects these apps. The SDK platform Cosmos offers allows programmers to produce top-notch decentralized apps (dApps).

Other developers have also constructed applications on top of it, such as MM Finance and VVS Finance. Cosmos (ATOM) recent price surge could be attributed to its influx of developers topping that of Ethereum.

The other reason for the ATOM price increase might be the announcement from dYdX that it is building an independent blockchain on the Cosmos ecosystem instead of Ethereum.

Also, Bitcoin price soared above $29,000, pushing the market cap of all cryptocurrencies to surpass $1 trillion. Many crypto assets, including ATOM, recorded price growth due to correlation to BTC.

ATOM Price Action

Below is the technical analysis of ATOM price action on the 4-hour trading timeframe. And also the possible resistance and support zones.

Cosmos has broken through the short-term resistance level of $11.69 and is currently trading between $10.571 and $15.484 support and resistance levels. ATOM must break through the $15.484 primary resistance level to confirm the bullish momentum.

Cardano Network Transactions Surge Despite Market Downturn "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Cardano (ADA) is in a downtrend as it sheds some of its recent price gains. Despite the price decline, it is experiencing a surge in transaction volume on the network. The network holds the enviable reputation of being a developers hub, with several exciting projects launched on its network.

However, it is still subject to the general economic factors influencing cryptocurrencies, such as the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

Crypto Analyst Reviews ADAs Performance

A crypto analyst on Twitter, Elite XBT, noted that Cardano transaction volume has increased since the start of 2023. However, he stated that market volatility had put the price under significant pressure.

According to the chart, the transaction volume fell below 10B ADA in January 2023. However, it has risen above 20B ADA and possibly reclaimed its 50B ADA at its all-time high (ATH) value last year.

According to another analyst, the increase in transaction volume is a function of increased activities from the whales and institutional holders. He believes the increased volume is a bullish sign and supports ADAs swing into an uptrend.

Also, Input Output Global (IOG), responsible for Cardanos research and development, shared its weekly development report. The report revealed that Cardanos network had processed 65.4 million transactions within the past week.

Notably, Cardano surpassed 4 million wallets on its network in March 2023. It indicates the continued growth potential of the Cardano network as more investors sign up.

Twitter user Alexander Legolas also believes that the current trend would shift from bear to bull as the protocols and upgrades become more attractive to users.

What Next For ADA?

ADA is still trading in the red today, forming a second consecutive red candle on the daily chart. The bears have returned to push their price down in the last two days. Its Relative Strength Index (RSI) is 51.24 in the neutral zone. Notably, the indicator is moving downwards due to bearish pressure.

ADAs Moving Average Convergence/Divergence (MACD) has dropped below its signal line, a bearish sentiment. However, despite its price slump, ADA has remained above its 50-day and 200-day Simple Moving Averages (...

Achieving The American Dream: Why Natalie Brunell Shares The Stories Of Bitcoin "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Taught from a young age to work hard and think for herself, media pro Natalie Brunell is dedicated to sharing Bitcoin with the world.

Oftentimes, when you hear about the American dream, you think of a heart-warming success story. The entrepreneur who made millions. Or the immigrant family that changed the trajectory for their children. And while these inspiring stories do exist, there are many others who came to America hoping for a better life only to be met with countless obstacles that hindered them from achieving their American dreams.

Modern-day monetary policy runs on fluctuating interest rates and inflation. Many people are not aware that the U.S. dollar, which was founded on a gold-reserve system, has not only been off of the gold standard for over 50 years, but is now backed by the United States military and petrodollar. The amount of control that the United States government has on those living in poverty is astronomical. Because of these limiting restrictions, among other factors, the American dream has become much harder to achieve.

However, Bitcoin can help change this negative cycle.

Natalie Brunell burst onto the Bitcoin scene in 2021. She was born in Poland and immigrated with her parents to America as a young child. Growing up with a family that was determined to build a new life in America, the value of hard work and a healthy amount of skepticism was ingrained into Brunell for as long as she can remember.

With over ten years of experience in the media sector, she took a risk and started her own Bitcoin podcast. Since then, Coin Stories has been wildly successful and influential in highlighting power players in the Bitcoin space.

Her story is inspiring and welcoming to anyone interested in getting started on their Bitcoin journeys.

How did you first learn about Bitcoin and what specifically drew you to it?

I first learned about Bitcoin in 2016 from a group of friends while working as a local news reporter covering breaking and investigative stories in Sacramento, California. I didnt understand Bitcoins technological innovation or the mission of Bitcoins proponents to address systemic issues in our financial system. In fact, I equated it back then to investing in stocks.

Luckily, I bought a little bit and held through my first...

Doctors Were Bribed for COVID Vaccination Coercion "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Story at-a-glance

  • In late March 2020, the U.S. Congress passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Within this $2 trillion stimulus package, $100 billion was earmarked for hospitals and local health centers that treated COVID patients
  • Hospitals were reimbursed an extra 20% for each Medicare patient hospitalized with COVID, and the only criteria to receive that bonus was a COVID-positive PCR test
  • The federal COVID-19 Treatments Add-On Payment program also paid hospitals bonuses for every COVID-19 patient treated with emergency-authorized COVID medications (Remdesivir, convalescent plasma, Baricitinib, Molnupiravir and Nirmatrelvir)
  • Hospitals also received a 300% upcharge for COVID patients placed on ventilators, even after it became apparent that this was a death sentence. Somewhere between 50% and 86% of all ventilated COVID patients died, yet government never dropped the incentive to use ventilators. Why?
  • Throughout 2020, evidence mounted showing the PCR test is incredibly unreliable above 35 cycles, and health agencies instructed labs to use 40 to 45 cycles. In essence, we had an epidemic of false positives, and financial incentives then drove hospitals to mistreat and kill countless patients, many of whom may not even have had COVID

Litecoin Enters The Green Zone As Crypto Market Rebounds "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Litecoin is trading in the green today, between the $89.78 and $90 price level, to consolidate on yesterdays closing price of $89.73. LTC started the year trading at $70 on January 1, 2023. It moved to $80 by January 10 as the bulls seized control. The crypto traded at $100.44 on February 1 for the first time in 2023.

However, market volatility has forced the asset to retest its old lows and is currently trading in the $89-$90 price range. A closer look at the daily chart would reveal its price action and next possible moves.

Litecoin Price On An Uptrend

LTC has formed a green candle on the price chart today, a slight recovery from the bearish trend noticed on the chart on April 28. However, todays price change is not by a wide margin as it remains a sideways trend despite its gains.

LTC is trading above its 50-day and 200-day Simple Moving Averages (SMA), a short and long-term bullish sentiment for the asset. Its Relative Strength Index is 48.18 in the neutral zone. Also, the indicator is moving sideways, reflecting the sideways trend on the daily chart.

Litecoin has found strong support at the $88.25 level preventing further price decline for the asset. Other critical support levels are $65.39 and $47.5. Its resistance levels are $94.35 and $103.42.

Litecoin Enters The Green Zone As The Crypto Market Rebounds

The $90 price level is a psychological resistance level that Litecoin is testing today. The coin will likely pivot off the $88.25 resistance level to trade above the $90 price level if the bulls prevail. However, the sideways trend might persist in the short term.

Litecoin Halving Historically Bullish

USTC: Will Proposal To Re-Peg Stablecoin Push LUNC To $1? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

In one of the most catastrophic events to ever hit the crypto industry, the prominent algorithmic stablecoin TerraClassicUSD (USTC) formerly UST became depegged from the US dollar around a year ago. As a result, the Terra ecosystem crumbled, leading to uncontrolled minting and supply of Terra Classic (LUNC) tokens.

However, in the latest developments, the Terra community is looking to approve a proposal to revive the ecosystem and restore USTCs value peg with the US dollar.

USTC Re-Peg Proposal

On Saturday, 22nd April, a Terra community member known as RedlineDrifter submitted a proposal that aims to re-peg stable coin TerraClassicUSD to the dollar. This proposal will enforce a re-pegging mechanism that implements divergence fees on USTC trades that slip below or rise above the peg. In this mechanism, the accrued fees will be used to repurchase the asset.

This re-pegging plan proposes the implementation of various mechanisms, including divergence fees, USTC buybacks, and a swap and staking mechanism. Whats more, RedlineDrifter emphasized how these mechanisms will help maintain USTCs value once it restores parity with the dollar.

The re-pegging proposal looks set for approval, according to the figures from ATOMScan. As of this writing, 49.11% have voted in support of the proposal, while only 6.63% of the total votes are not in favor. That said, it is worth noting that 44.24% chose to sit on the fence. The votes are expected to end later today.

ICP Rallies By 17%, Emerges As Biggest Gainer In Top 50 Cryptocurrencies "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Internet Computer (ICP) is currently on an impressive bullish run following the crypto market upturn, which saw many assets show signs of recovery. In the last week, ICP has taken center stage, recording the biggest gains among the major coins in the market.

ICP Shows Its Mettle In Crypto Ranking

According to data from CoinMarketCap, the Internet Computer token recorded an 18.25% gain over the last seven days, outperforming every other token in the top 50 crypto rankings within the same period.

The web-affiliated altcoin initially began the week trading around $5.6 on Sunday. ICP showed no significant price action in the early days of the week but soon followed the Bitcoin price rally gaining by about 20.3% in the last two days.

In this month of April, the Internet Computer token has been a focal point of investors interest, surging by about 24% to trade above $7 for the first time since February. Although it has fallen from such heights, the altcoin appears to have resumed its bullish trajectory following last weeks stunning performance.

ICPs ckBTC Gains Ground, As Plans To Launch ckETH, Others Are Revealed

Aside from the Bitcoin market-led surge, Internet Computers rise has also been driven by the announcement of the Chain-key Bitcoin (ckBTC), an ICRC-1- compliant token backed by Bitcoin 1:1.

According to DFINITY, developers of ICP, the ckBTC token acts as a bitcoin twin enabling users to conduct fast, secure, and low-fee bitcoin transactions on the Internet Computer blockchain.

The ckBTC distinguishes itself from other cross-chain derivatives tokens as its operation requires no centralized custodians, bridges, or traditional cloud providers operating a fully decentralized system.

So far, this innovation has received much reception as 61.2628 ckBTC tokens (worth $1.795 million) have been minted on the ICP blockchain following the launch of the token four weeks ago.

This Woman Doesnt Want To Split Rent, And Her Boyfriend Doesnt Like It "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

There have been a lot of discussions lately on Reddit and in other places around the internet about splitting bills and living costs and life responsibilities fairly. Weve established that fair isnt always equal, but this post proves that some folks just arent listening.

OP and her boyfriend have been together since college. They lived together then and have split their rent, utilities, groceries, and other shared expenses right down the middle.

Since graduating, they moved to a bigger city with bigger ticket apartments.

I (F23) have been dating my boyfriend Jake (M23) since our freshmen year of college. In our last year of undergrad, we decided to rent an apartment together. We split everything 50/50, including utilities, groceries, and rent.

We continued living together in the same town as our college after graduation, but recently, we both got jobs in Chicago and we are currently living downtown.

Luckily, OPs father owns a nice one in a prime location. Hes willing to let his daughter live there for free, and only wants to charge her boyfriend a minimal amount to share the space.

My dad works in real estate, and he has multiple investment properties. My dad generously allowed me to live in one of his properties rent free, but he said that my boyfriend would have to pay him $400 a month for rent.

My dad is very protective, but he has been nothing but kind to my boyfriend. My dads reasoning for making my boyfriend pay rent is that he wants to be sure that my boyfriend is with me for me, and not because he will have a free place to live.

(Keep in mind, if my dad was renting this apartment out to tenants, he would charge $2100 a month for rent. Very ritzy building in the middle of downtown Chicago).

When the first months r...

Another Iranian Woman Murdered in Forced Hijab Dispute "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Almost a year after 22-year-old Mahsa Amini died under the custody of Irans morality police after not wearing her hijab correctly, another woman lost her life after a fight over a forced hijab dispute last April 23rd.

Her death occurred after a fight between Irans paramilitary Basij forces and a group of people erupted in the parking lot of the Mahan Garden last April 23rd. According to netizens, the woman and the group of people were tourists visiting from the port city of Bandar Abbas, south of Iran.

The scuffle was captured on camera, which became viral on social media. The video showed a group of people fighting another group of people. The footage was taken inside a bus that carried members of the Iran Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRCG) and their families, who visited the park to pay their respects to Qassem Soleimani, the Qods Force Commander killed in a US missile attack in 2020.

The details of the fight and what led to the womans death were unclear and subject to debate. While confirming her death, the semi-official Fars news agency reported that the fight was between two groups of people with no mention of any involvement on the side of Iranian security forces.

On the other hand, the governor of Kerman Ali Babaei, the province where the fistfight occurred, claimed personal issues sparked the mass conflict in Mahan Garden without saying anything about protests against the mandatory hijab rule.

As for the death of the unnamed woman, who was either 59 or 60, reports suggest that she died due to cardiac arrest and she died in hospital. But some Iranians suggested that the older woman was beaten based on footage of the scuffle.

Iran International reported that Basij forces ordered women in the group to comply with mandatory hijab rules while visiting the park. When the group refused to obey, a fight broke out."

As the fight happened, one of the womans friends pleaded to stop as the woman was dying, but a female Basij member simply said, Let them die, to hell with it.

As the Fars news agency reported, many people have been imprisoned in relation to the incident. Yousef Sobhani, a judicia...

The Women Behind Indias Militant Hindu Nationalist Movement "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

With the continuing surge of Hindutva (Hindu nationalist) ideology in India since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was elected in 2014, the country is also seeing a rise of female militant Hindu nationalists taking up positions in government and even leading the fight for their ideals.

One of these female Hindu nationalist leaders is Pragya Singh Thakur, also known to her supporters as Sadhvi Pragya (title for female ascetic in India). She was a suspect in a 2008 bombing in Malegaon, Maharashtra, that took the lives of six victims and injured 100 people.

However, these allegations did not stop Thakur from joining Indias parliament in 2019. She currently serves as a legislator representing the city of Bhopal under the BJP, and she is perhaps the first in the countrys history to be elected despite being accused of a crime.

Since her rise to power, many female Hindu nationalists have seen Thakur as an inspiration and wish to achieve the popularity she has garnered in the past few years. One of them is Chaitra Kundapura, a journalist in her 20s and a former news anchor on a local TV channel in Karnataka.

Kundapura had a unique story behind her. Coming from a lower-middle-class background and a member of Indias Other Backwards Castes, Kundapura began to question Western notions of gender equality and feminism during her stint as an anchor and saw the appeal of how Hindu nationalist literature portrayed women.

Like Thakur, Kundapura is embroiled in many legal cases for inciting hatred against Indias Muslim minority through her fiery speeches. She enjoys minor celebrity status among other Hindu nationalists in Karnataka, whose locals acknowledged that hate speech is a way for women like her to gain attention.

In 2021, she sparked controversy for giving Muslim men a warning on love jihad. She claimed that activists from Bajrang Dal, one of Indias many militant far-right and Hindu nationalist organizations, would convert Muslim men in two days and have Muslim women apply vermillion on their heads (a symbol associated with married Hindu women) if they dont stop with love jihad.

But Kundapura is not alone in her struggle to spread Hindutva across the country. Pooja Shakun Pandey, leader of the far-right All India Hindu Mahasabha in Uttar Pradesh, is another case. A mother of two and a former mathematics teacher, she quit her well-paying job in Kundapura to focus on her activism, adding that it was her true calling.

Pandey, who also called herself Sadhvi Annapoorna after...

Australian Islamic Scholar Admonishes Muslims For "Abandoning Jihad" "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

An Australian Islamic scholar slammed Muslims for allegedly abandoning jihad, and describing Hindus and Jewish people with disparaging remarks.

Wissam Haddad, also known as Abu Ousayd on social media, made his statements during an address in Sydney, Australia, last April 14th. The sermon, titled The Month of Victory, was uploaded to the YouTube channel of Al Madina Dawah Center, a religious center in Sydney, Australia.

In his sermon, Abu Ousayd lambasted Muslims for reportedly doing nothing while other Muslims were killed in Kashmir and Palestine. He also claimed that the Mongols defeated Muslims because religious scholars "spent so much time in their books" and abandoned jihad during that time.

"Oh nation of Muhammad, come alive; Kashmir is bleeding. Muslims are being killed at the hands of the worshippers of cows and monkeys, and the Muslims remain silent. Abu Ousayd pleaded while also hinting at Hindus.

Hindus today openly threaten Muslims. They openly swear to invade our lands of Mecca and Medina, inciting one another to do this, and we sit idle, even afraid to speak up against them. He added.

After calling Hindus slurs, Abu Ousayd turned to the issue regarding Israel and Palestine, where he made statements targeting Jews and calling out Muslims.

"Our beloved Jerusalem cries out year after year, as the Israeli forces, year after year, invade Al-Aqsa, especially in Ramadan, and they oppress the Muslims in this month. Abu Ousayd said. Yet the Muslims remain idle. The Muslims of Palestine cry out to be saved from the descendants of pigs and monkeys but no one responds. He added, making references to Israeli Jews.

Abu Ousayd continued with his sermon and said that the issue with Palestine would never end with just humanitarian aid alone. He mentioned Ibn Umar, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad, and told Muslims that Allah will send upon you humiliation, and will not remove it until you turn back to your religion once they abandon jihad and become satisfied with cultivation and partake in usury.

"As I said, my dear brothers, the Companions were known to be worshippers at night and warriors by day....

Islamic Scholar Claims Jews Plant Trees to Thwart Muslims on Judgement Day "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

An Islamic scholar from Syria claimed in a show that Jews planted trees in Israel and Palestine to impede Muslims and protect them on Judgement Day.

Abdul Nafee Al-Rifai made these statements in a show aired on Qanat TV/Channel 9, an Arabic-language channel in Turkey connected to the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. The show aired on April 8th.

Al-Rifai argued that in a decisive battle on the Day of Judgement, the rocks and trees in Israel and Palestine would tell Muslims that Jews were hiding behind them and to come and kill them. However, he mentioned that one tree, the gharqad tree, would protect them.

The gharqad tree refers to the Nitre bush or Nitraria retusa, a salt-tolerant and drought-resistant shrub native to parts of Northern Africa and the Middle East. The plant is recognized as the tree of the Jews among many Muslims, and it is known for its many uses, such as food for livestock and even a source of salt for many living in the desert.

"Is it possible that the angels participate in the battles of the Muslims? Yes! They do, and, God willing, they will participate in the decisive battle when the fighting will be between the Jews and us. Al-Rifai said in the show.

The Prophet Muhammad informed us about a decisive battle, which will be fought between the Jews and us. The Prophet Muhammad said: You, the Muslims, will be east of the Jordan River, and they will be west of the Jordan River. Picture the map its just like that.

The scholar also cited a hadith, stating that the rocks and trees will tell Muslims where the Jews are hiding to kill them, except for the gharqad, calling it one of the trees of the Jews.

"Allah will make the rocks and the trees speak, and they will say: 'Oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him, Al-Rifai said, mentioning the hadith. The rocks and the trees will speak, with the exception of the gharqad, which is one of the trees of the Jews.

The scholar continued his claims that the Jews planted the gharqad in their occupied territories, gardens, and homes, even if they were thorny and useless, to prepare for that decisive battle.

He also said that the Jerusalem municipality, b...

Is This Why Extraterrestrials Don't Interact With Us? "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

In 2013, the former Canadian defense minister Paul Hellyer made a shocking statement: a federation of alien races mankind are watching and controlling us. Reported television channel History.

Some say there is enough evidence to support this claim. Almost every culture has stories or emperors, kings and pharaohs who consulted a group of nine gods.

Even CIA scientists channeled in the fifties with an alien group that was called The Nine. This group are here to influence events on earth, according to the station.
In 1952 the American physician Andrija Puharich put a special laboratory that was part of a top secret government program.

In the lab experiments were done with psychological manipulation and hallucinogenic drugs. One of his subjects was Uri Geller.

One of the most controversial aspects of his research related to channeling, making contact with non-physical beings.

Contact was made in December 1952 by a group of entities that was called The Nine.
The Nine said they were an endless presence, explains Nick Pope from, who has worked 20 years for the British Ministry of Defence.

Witchcraft: Culture or Curse? African Union Addresses Dark Side of Belief "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The legislative body of the African Union is planning to implement new rules to protect victims of ritual attacks and prevent people accused of witchcraft from being harmed and abused.

The Pan-African Parliament, a body attended by representatives from 48 African countries, met in Johannesburg, South Africa, to discuss the adoption of extensive guidelines that seek to help governments across the continent by teaching them strategies on how to tackle dangerous superstitions linked to witchcraft that often leads to attacks and abuse.

Some proposed measures include legal acts like criminalizing violence caused by witchcraft accusations and outlawing the trafficking of body parts used for witchcraft rituals. Other nonlegal initiatives include community education and awareness campaigns to address misconceptions that exacerbate allegations of witchcraft.

Despite scarce data and unreported cases, violence and abuse against people accused of witchcraft are widespread throughout Africa. However, some attacks related to witchcraft accusations also occur in other documents. Contrary to popular belief, witchcraft-related attacks in Africa are not decreasing but appear to be rising, as noted by some experts.

A recent report from the United Nations revealed that more than 20,000 people had been victims of harmful practices connected to witchcraft suspicions and ritual attacks in the last decade across 60 countries. A survey conducted across 95 countries and territories found that 40% of all respondents believe in witchcraft, and this belief transcends socioeconomic boundaries.

The groups identified as more vulnerable to witchcraftrelated attacks and abuse include children, women, people with disabilities, older people, and persons with albinism. While being accused of witchcraft often leads to stigma and ostracism, it can also result in physical violence and murder.

Because victims of witchcraft allegations tend to be outcasts or minorities, they often find it hard to access education, employment, and help. Disabled persons and people with albinism are also hidden away by their families for fear of attacks.

Whether you believe in witchcraft or not, there is no denying that witchcraft is having a negative impact in our continent and this impact needs to be addressed, Muluka-Anne Miti-Drummond, an expert from the UN representing albino people, said during the meeting at the Pan-African Parliament. These guidelines give us hope that, if implemented, these harmful practices can start to be eradicated.

Miti-Drummond also recalled how she constantly received...

Jehovah's Witnesses Accused of Child Sexual Abuse in Pennsylvania "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

In recent months, a grand jury in Pennsylvania accuse nine men of being connected to the Jehovahs Witnesses child sexual abuse investigation. This is part of whats considered to be the most extensive and most comprehensive investigation of abuse within the churchs history in the US.

A series of charges were filed in the past year, fuelling speculations that the jury could release findings uncovered from a four-year investigation that started in 2019 to the public. The investigation is similar to a grand jury proceeding on child sex abuse committed by Catholic priests, which resulted in a lengthy 2018 report stating how priests abused children in seven decades. The report also described how church officials covered up these incidents of abuse.

A similar report was also released this April in Maryland, which detailed how 150 priests in the Archdiocese of Baltimore sexually abused 600 children, spanning eight decades of abuse and coverups by officials.

But the Catholic priest sexual abuse reports in Pennsylvania and Maryland dont include what critics say is a systemic cover-up and mishandling of child sexual abuse cases within the Jehovahs Witnesses.

Critics accused church elders in the Jehovahs Witnesses of treating child sexual abuse as a sin rather than a crime, which would compel them to document the cases internally but not report them to authorities. They were even accused of letting these child sexual abuse suspects remain active in their congregations with access to children from unsuspecting families.

Church elders were also criticized for requiring a second witness for child sexual abuse complaints, a virtually impossible standard in cases of molestation. However, Jehovahs Witnesses spokesperson Jarrod Lopes denied these allegations.

He said the church treats child sexual abuse as a crime, and members have the right to report cases of sexual abuse to the authorities. Lopes added that the second-witness rule applies only to matters concerning internal church discipline, and elders comply with reporting laws even without a second witness.

Dozens of people had provided their testimonies before the secret grand jury in Harrisburg, while others gave information to the states attorney general. Some reports even detailed how investigators showed keen interest in how the Jehovahs Witnesses have responded to the allegations.

Martin Haugh, one of the testifiers, is a former church elder from York Haven and a father of one of the victims within...

Zara Capitalizes on the Cottagecore Aesthetic and Has $30 Straw Brooms for Sale "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Oh my, how rustic!

If youve spent any time out shopping in the past few years, youve probably noticed that the cottagecore look has become quite popular.

The New York Times  Isabel Slone describes the look like this: In the cottagecore universe, there are no phones pinging constantly with updates, no urgent work emails, no evenings spent responding to the onerous demands of a tyrannical boss. In fact, there is no labor beyond domestic, and workaday tasks are completed with a gauzy sense of fulfillment.

But, as we all know, most trends out there usually take on a life of their own and companies try to capitalize on them by charging big bucks for items that are typically cheap.

Thats what seems to be going on in this TikTok video that shows a straw broom for sale at a Zara store for 29.99, which equals about $32 in U.S. currency.

Insider Reveals Fox News Fired Tucker Carlson For Praising God And Rejecting Satan Because That Stuff Freaks Rupert Out "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

An insider at Fox News claims that the true reason that Tucker Carlson was fired by the network was because of a speech that he gave on Friday in which he praised God and rejected Satan. God, spirituality, and prayer are reportedly all subjects that freak out Rupert Murdoch, according to a source who spoke to Vanity Fair on the condition of anonymity. https://twitter.com/TexasLindsay_/status/1650543460057853963?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1650543460057853963%7Ctwgr%5Eec81925437feb4c9e90ec8e1814fd235d691e064%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.theblaze.com%2Fnews%2Ftucker-carlson-ousted-at-fox-over-speech-stressing-the-importance-of-prayer-says-insider On Monday, Fox News made the announcement that Tuckers time working for the network had been abruptly terminated. Since the news was broken, Fox News has steadfastly refused to elaborate on the reasoning behind Carlsons firing. According to Vanity Fair, Tuckers speech at the Heritage Foundations 50th Anniversary gala three days prior was the last straw for Fox and led to the termination of his contract. Carlson warned his audience during the speech that the struggle for the future of America was a conflict between good and evil. We should say that and stop engaging in these totally fraudulent debatesIve tried. That doesnt work, Carlson declared. Ripples Q1 Report Shows That Investors Are Still Bullish On XRP, Heres Why "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Ripple is a cryptocurrency firm that has been on the radar of United States regulators for years and its native token XRP has suffered greatly for it. However, despite the legal battle with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Ripple has not backed down and it looks like investors are increasingly bullish on the cryptocurrency.

Ripples Q1 Report Exceeds Expectations

In a Q1 report that was posted by Ripple titled Q1 2023 XRP Markets Report, there has been tremendous growth for the firm in the first three months of 2023. The first thing that stands out from this report is that Ripple has been experiencing rapid adoption during this time period.

At a time when other cryptocurrencies were seeing a decline in new users and adoption, the crypto firm reports that over 114,000 new wallets were added in the first quarter of 2023. Furthermore, the number of transactions for this time period also crossed 116 million.

The decentralized exchange (DEX) volume for XRP also grew to over $114.5 million compared to the $85.7 million figure recorded in Q4 of 2022. However, transaction fees were higher compared to the previous quarter and its price did not perform as well, closing at an average price of $0.40 compared to $0.42 for Q4 2022.

Ripple (XRP)

This rise in transaction fees, as well as the increased number of transactions, saw the total XRP burned for transaction fees reach 140,993 for Q1 2023 compared to 101,968 XRP for Q4 2022.

Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) contributed greatly to this volume as the report notes that over 1.2 million NFTs have been minted since XLS-20 went live on mainnet. Thus, Ripple has emerged as a Top 10 chain for NFT trading volume as well.

Community Turns Bullish On XRP

The expectations of the XRP community have returned to bullish territory given the numbers published in the quarterly report. It has instilled a se...

XRP May Rally Over 10% Upon Breaching Two Critical Levels "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Recently, XRP has been facing significant rejection at its overhead resistance level, including a rejection that occurred just a week ago. On the daily chart, XRP has shown a slight upward movement of 3%. However, over the past week, this altcoin has not made much progress as its price has decreased by 0.4%. This indicates that the XRP price is indecisive over longer time frames.

The technical outlook for XRP suggests that the market is bearish. There is a low demand for the altcoin, and accumulation remained less too. However, if XRP manages to move above its overhead resistance, this could trigger a recovery.

Currently, the BTC price is hovering below the $30,000 mark, and most altcoins have followed a similar trend. If BTC breaks through the $30,000 mark, XRP could attempt to move upwards.

At its current level, the altcoin is at a crucial point, as an increase in demand could cause a rally, while a decrease in price could result in a loss of up to 16% of its value. Furthermore, the market capitalization of XRP has decreased, indicating an increase in the number of sellers.

XRP Price Analysis: One-Day Chart

XRP

The altcoin was trading for $0.47 at the time of writing. It is trading underneath its overhead resistance of $0.48. The aforementioned resistance mark is crucial as it has served as a price ceiling previously.

A break above the $0,.48 mark can push XRP to $0.50, which might act as another ceiling before the altcoin targets $0.53. A move to $0.53 means over a 10% rally.

On the flip side, a fall from the current price level will drag XRP to $0.44 and then to $0.40, thereby bringing bearish influence back. The amount of altcoin traded in the last session was red, indicating a fall in demand.

Baking Bread with a Kitchen Witch

I began to believe that peace goes into the making of the bread as well. By the time I made the first loaf, I knew it with certainty, and I worked that peace and some other magics into the dough as I kneaded it on the counter in the hearth center of my own home.

Arts Grantmakers Must Change Their Ways "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

When we glorify the idea of a struggling artist, we are perpetuating the notion that artists are meant to be poor; that they do not deserve a living wage. When we look to artists for hope, healing, and help within our communities in the form of social services beyond arts programming, but take their labor for granted, we are stipulating that being an artist is not a real job. These narratives are particularly entrenched in the US, and we must push back on them in order to mitigate harm. Creatives, artists, and storytellers are workers who deserve the dignity of a living wage for their major contributions to our social fabric and economy. Artists help us process social, racial, and environmental upheaval, imagine new ways forward, and prompt meaningful action. Yet in too many ways, philanthropy and the broader nonprofit industrial complex in the US are failing them.

A suite of recent studies by Yancey Consulting, Americans for the Arts (AFTA), and Collaborative Consulting Group reveals the harsh blows the COVID-19 pandemic dealt to creatives as well as systemic vulnerabilities and inequalities creatives faced before the pandemic. According to AFTA, 95% of creatives lost creative income, their total income fell from about $33,000 to $13,500 (about $800 above the poverty level), and 55% depleted their savings. Respondents who were disabled, transgender, people of color, and have less formal education experienced disproportionately negative economic impacts.

The Great EV Con Job "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Image result for frustrated EV owners

They say its green. They say its renewable. They say that by the year 2050 90% of the automobiles will be electric. How will this impact the environment, the people, and the economy? In short, not in a good way at all. For us to buy into this malarkey we need to analyze the facts. As state and city governments plan on spending billion in electrical charge stations for a future technical status that may change between now and then? What if the state of art magically transforms after all of this anticipatory expense has been paid out along with the incredible deficits and taxes it will take?

Truth the Sword that Cuts through the lies

  • Fact: To build an electric car a carbon footprint 30 times that of building a combustible engine is created. So, right off the bat you have just defeated the so called Green alternative.
  • Fact: Lithium ion batteries are extremely poisonous. Landfills containing these remnants will not only remain toxic for a long time but they will contaminate the water table!
  • Fact: Over 1500 pounds is added to the weight of an electric car just for the size of the battery it takes to run the car!
  • Fact: These heavy and pollutonous batteries can need replacement as soon as 30,000 miles and the cost currently is $14,000.00 for the battery installation not included.
  • Fact: Mileage will vary according to speed driven which will vary from driver to driver with a range of about 250 miles at low speeds.
  • Fact: Recharging stations can take up to 45 minutes! How will this be convenient?
  • Fact: In its present state the 100 year old US electrical grid is at the point of over loading with demand almost exceeding the full output of the utility capacity during daytime hours. It was almost hilarious to hear California Governor Gavin Newsome appealing to the very drivers he urged to get EVs not to recharge as the California grid was at the point of collapse!
  • Fact: At present there are not enough resources such as minerals and ore to manufacture the batteries and other parts that are specific to EVs. We lost a great amount of that resource withdrawing from Afghanistan! China and Russia have the massive ore and minerals it takes but not the US. This idiotic EV con job is playing right into our enemys hands!
  • Fact: Not many Americans, especially in the Biden economy, are able to afford a $60,000 dollar price tag. So, is this part of the plan to price individual car ownership beyond the reach of most Americans?
  • Fact...

Nerding Out at New Yorks Antiquarian Book Fair "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

The 63rd annual New York Antiquarian Book Fair has taken over the Park Avenue Armory this weekend. Its an overwhelming event, even compared to the more high-profile art fairs that visit New York City venues in the spring and fall. With the participation of almost 200 rare book dealers, the fair showcases thousands upon thousands of books, ephemera, and historic works on paper. While a dealer at a contemporary art fair might have a ready-made sales pitch for their booths one or two artists, the booksellers at Park Avenue Armory hold a seemingly bottomless trove of knowledge, both artistically and historically, about every sing...

Man Rescues Trapped Sea Turtle That Became Tangled in Tree Roots on Her Way to Lay Eggs "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Man Rescues Trapped Sea Turtle That Became Tangled in Tree Roots on Her Way to Lay Eggs

A kindhearted man named Miguel Angel Escobar was in the right place at the right time. During a boat ride with his family in Utila, Honduras, he spotted a sea turtle that had become entangled in some tree roots on the beach. The scene was pretty heartbreaking, as the turtle lay motionless in the entanglement. Hoping there was still something that could be done to help the animal, he got off his boat for a closer inspection.

I thought she was dead, Escobar told The Dodo. We felt such pity for her. Although the turtle didn't move as Escobar and his family pulled the boat ashore, he and his female companion approached her. The man nudged the creature, hoping she would react. When I touched her, she instantly let out a sigh and she started to move her head, Escobar said.

Springing into action, Escobar told his kid to fetch him his bag, where he had a knife. In the meantime, the man tried breaking the roots with his bare hands, splitting a few branches, but not the main one holding the turtle back. All the while, the turtle let out big sighs and softly waved her flippers. Once Escobar had his knife, he began cutting the big branch, which had even begun to prod into the sea turtle's shell.

Even after cutting the root from both ends, the turtle remained stuck due to its thickness and the uncomfortable position she had been trapped inher hind flippers were also stuck in some branches that were higher up. To finally free the heavy turtle from the complex entanglement, Escobar had no choice but to flip her. Despite the moments of desperation the turtle experienced as she laid belly up and flapping her limbs, it was reassuring to see she still had plenty of energy in her.

Escobar then dragged the turtle back to the water, and once they were in deep enough, the efforts of both man and turtle made it easy for the latter to turn around with a little push. The turtle had been freed, and began to swim so fast no one would believe she had been on the brink just moments earlier. I thought that the turtle would need to rest on the shore and recover her strength, Escobar said. But she instantly swam away, strong and fast, like someone who was jumping...

Bitcoin Emerges As the King Of Assets,10X Growth Over Gold During US Banking Crisis "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Despite the volatile price action of Bitcoin (BTC), the worlds largest cryptocurrency has outperformed every other asset, including gold. Although it is trading below its psychological milestone of $30,000 at $29,000, Bitcoin is expected to grow further in 2023, as it acts as a safe haven for investors amidst the US banking crisis.

Bitcoin Reigns Supreme As the Best-Performing Asset

Capriole Investment, which provides research and analysis on cryptocurrencies, has reported that the current market cycle favors hard assets like gold, as indicated by the 200-week Gold-to-Stocks ratio. This classic indicator highlights when the market favors safe-haven assets like gold over riskier equity assets. Both gold and Bitcoin have generated some of their best returns during these phases.

As the market continues to favor hard assets, Bitcoin has emerged as the preferred safe haven for wealth amidst the US banking crisis and fiat currency weakness. During this period of high correlation, Bitcoin has outperformed gold by 10X in 2023, making it the best-performing asset of the year among major asset classes.

Bitcoin

The strong positive correlation between Bitcoin and Gold has also increased significantly, making them attractive options for investors looking to diversify their portfolios and hedge against economic uncertainty. With unsustainable tightening, banking crises, and de-dollarization looming, the market is turning to these safe-haven assets to protect their wealth.

100-Year-Old WWII Veteran Is Invited to Ride in a Fire Truck for His Milestone Birthday

WWII Veteran Takes Ride in Fire Truck for 100th Birthday

A World War II veteran in North Carolina enjoyed a very special birthday. On April 25, the Winston-Salem Fire Department invited Jim Lynch for a ride in one of their fire trucks to celebrate turning 100 years old the day before. The centenarian was seen strapped into the back seat of the vehicle and chatting with firefighters in a short video clip.

Lynch moved to Winston-Salem in 1939 and has been a resident ever since. He enlisted in World War II two weeks after getting married, serving in the heavy artillery unit in the South Pacific. After returning to the States, he worked at Salem Electric until retiring in 1985.

The veteran received 80 birthday cards and a visit from the city fire department to mark his landmark birthday. We got him up and took a picture with him. Then we asked him if he wanted to go on a ride in the fire truck since he was admiring it so much, a Winston-Salem firefighter said. At first he was sort of hesitant, and then he said, Yep, I changed my mind. I think I'll go.' So, we helped him into the truck and took him around the block, and he said it was his first ride in a fire truck in 100 years.

Julia and her mother, Jacqueline have come to the exclusive summer colony of Chipmunk Island to attend a memorial service for Jacqueline's old friend Ginny, who's been officially declared dead half a decade after she went out for her daily swim in the harbor and was never seen again.  But something seems fishy at the service -- especially with the ladies of the Wednesday Club.  As Julia and Jacqueline begin looking into Ginny's cold case, a present-day murder stirs the pot, and mother and daughter must dive into the deep end to get to the bottom of both mysteries...

When Julia Snowden's mother, Jacqueline, asks her to accompany her to the memorial of an old friend, Julia agrees.  The problem is, Julia never heard of Ginny, and wonders why her mother never mentioned her.  But when they arrive on Chipmunk Island, home to generations of people who pass their homes down to their families, she notices the Wednesday Book Club Women -- a group of six women (now five with the passing of Ginny) aren't very welcoming to her, much less to her mother.  But Jacqueline pauses eno...

Practical Mysticism: Evelyn Underhills Stunning Century-Old Manifesto for Secular Transcendence and Seeing the Heart of Reality "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Because mystery is horrible to us, we have agreed for the most part to live in a world of labels; to make of them the current coin of experience, and ignore their merely symbolic character, the infinite gradation of values which they misrepresent.

Practical Mysticism: Evelyn Underhills Stunning Century-Old Manifesto for Secular Transcendence and Seeing the Heart of Reality

The great paradox of consciousness is that it constitutes both our entire experience of reality and our blindfold to reality as it really is. Forever trapped within it, we mistake our concepts of things for the things themselves, our theories for the universe, continually seeing the world not as it is but as we are. The supreme frontier of human freedom may be the ability to accept that something exists beyond understanding, that understanding is a machination of the mind and not a mirror of the world that the world simply is, and our consciousness is a participant in its being but not a creator of it.

The English poet, novelist, mystic, and peace activist Evelyn Underhill (December 6, 1875June 15, 1941) explores how to do that in her 1914 book Practical Mysticism (public library | public domain) a field guide to mystical experience that is secular rather than religious, the product of ordinary contemplation springing from the very essence of human nature, available to all.

Marine Animal Masks by Liz Sexton Spotlight Beloved Species in Lifelike Papier-Mch "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

If you feel like a fish out of water, the saying goes, then youre probably feeling a little confused or uncomfortable. St. Paul-based artist Liz Sexton gives the simile new meaning with recent marine-themed additions to her ongoing papier-mch masks series, highlighting the distinctive faces of familiar creatures like walruses, manatees, and polar bears that find themselves out and about on dry land.

Sexton enjoys papier-mch for its versatility and accessibility, using additional readily available materials like cloth, wire, and acrylic paint to build up each animals unique textures, patterns, and colors. Comprising her upcoming solo exhibition Out of Water at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum, the lifelike wearable sculptures draw attention to a variety of beings that rely on aquatic ecosystems for survival. Barnacles and belugas are photographed in atmospheric settings by the artists partner and collaborator Ben Toht, who captures each animals unique details and expressions.

Many of Sextons sculptures portray species that, in their native habitats, are under threat as they increasingly become entangled in nets and suffer the effects of the climate crisis. The delicate and often awkward balance between the human-made environment and natural ecosystems is highlighted in photographs of the masks in atmospheric settings by the artists partner and collaborator Ben Toht. The portraits playfully juxtapose the creatures with unusual locations like a grocery store freezer aisle, a campground, or a laundromat.

XRP Could Be Poised For Another Rally, Here Are Key Metrics To Watch Out "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The cryptocurrency market has been experiencing a period of volatility, but XRP could be poised to break to the upside. As investors and traders gear up for the upcoming potential gains, several key metrics to watch out for could give insights into the future of XRPs price.

XRP Could Be Poised For A Rally

Over the past week, XRP has shown signs of bullish momentum, with the cryptocurrency price rising from $0.46 on April 21 to $0.47 at the time of writing. The surge in price could be attributed to several factors, including the ubiquitous uptrend in the market.

XRP price chart on TradingView

According to the XRP price 4-hour chart, a possible uptrend could occur soon. The asset has formed a double bottom on the 1-day time frame and is now set to shape a W pattern fully.

The token has major high liquidity at $0.53, which could support an extension in the bullish trend as major players target it. Though the chart appears imprecise, should the asset continue its upward momentum and not invalidate the marked-out W pattern, it could rally and trade at the $0.5 region in the coming weeks.

Key Metrics To Keep An Eye On

Alongside the asset validating the W pattern on the chart, XRP trading volume is one of the crucial metrics to watch out for, as it indicates the level of interest among retail traders.

These retail investors have the potential to help solidify the current bullish price action for XRP. According to data from CoinMarketCap, the tokens daily trading volume has remained consistently high, indicating strong investor interest and potentially foreshadowing a price increase. the tokens daily trading volume has surged from $1.4 billion seen 5 days ago to $1.6 billion in the last 24 hours.

Whale action on XRPs is another important metric to watch out for. On the XRPL network, significant whale transactions have been recorded through on-chain data, which can potentially sway the XRP coins price in favor of further profits.

Whale transactions refer to large cryptocurrency transactions, typically carried out by institutional investors or...

PayPals Venmo To Enable Ability To Transfer Bitcoin To External Wallets In May "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Users who have purchased bitcoin through the app will now be able to take self-custody of their BTC, as well as send it directly to other Venmo users.

Venmo, the mobile payment platform owned by PayPal, is launching the ability for its customers to transfer bitcoin to other Venmo users, PayPal accounts and external wallets and exchanges, starting in May 2023. The company says the move is in response to increasing customer demand for digital asset management options. According to the announcement, more than 50% of its cryptocurrency-using customers chose Venmo due to its safety, security and ease of use, while more than 74% of customers have continued to hold their cryptocurrency in their Venmo account over the past year.

The transfer process is designed to be simple and can be done in a few steps via the Venmo app. Customers can navigate to the Crypto tab, view their assets, tap the Transfer arrows and choose to send bitcoin to a Venmo account, or by entering a recipients wallet address to send to PayPal or another external wallet. Customers can also tap Receive to display their unique bitcoin address QR code, which can be shared with other people.

Venmo is quick to note that cryptocurrency transfers cannot be canceled or reversed, which is something that can be difficult for new Bitcoin users to get used to, but eliminates chargebacks and other complications presented by fiat rails.

Crypto transfers will be rolling out to Venmo customers over the coming weeks starting in May 2023, Venmo said in a press release. Were excited to connect Venmos customers to the community, other wallets and exchanges, and we intend to continue to roll out additional crypto products and services in the year ahead.

Being one of the largest mobile finance applications in the United States and a first step into bitcoin for many, this update now introduces users to the ability to take self-custody of their bitcoin, an essential step in realizing the full properties bitcoin entails. Venmos decision to add this feature demonstrates their understanding of the growing demand for users ability to take full control of their bitcoin, preventing mishaps related to trusted third-parties.

Samara Asset Group Donates $150,000 To Brink For Bitcoin Development "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Brink, a Bitcoin development community, will use the donation to finance an annual salary of a developer contribution to Bitcoin.

Samara Asset Group, an alternative asset manager with a focus on Bitcoin, has donated $150,000 to Brink, a charitable Bitcoin development community. The donation will be used to finance the annual salary of a developer contributing to the growth and development of the Bitcoin network. Samara has committed to continuing this donation for the next three years.

The Bitcoin protocol is unique in that it has no foundation or corporate entity supporting its development. The pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, disappeared roughly a decade ago, leaving the Bitcoin community to oversee its development. Charitable organizations, such as Brink, have become a popular method for donors to contribute to the Bitcoin ecosystem.

At Samara, we believe the future of global capital markets are decentralized and democratized, with Bitcoin playing a vital role in the development of this inclusive financial world, said Patrick Lowry, Samara CEO. We are proud to back Bitcoin builders, not only by investing in many of the worlds best companies building infrastructure for Bitcoin, but now by donating to Brink to finance a developer for the next three years."

Mike Schmidt, Executive Director of Brink, expressed his gratitude for Samara's contribution to the Bitcoin community. "Bitcoin development is a common good and relies on organizations like Samara and individuals like Patrick to recognize the importance furthering the security, stability, and advancement of the Bitcoin software that underpins much of the entire industry," he said.

Samara's donation demonstrates its commitment to seeing the Bitcoin community thrive. The company is reportedly exploring an international listing in order to increase trading liquidity and reach new prospective shareholders.

Parrots Taught to Video Call Each Other Show Increased Happiness According to New Study "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

Parrots Taught to Video Call Each Other Show Increased Happiness According to New Study

Scientists Teach Parrots How to Make Video Calls

Photo: Matthew Modoono/Northeastern University

Researchers have found that some birds love firing up a video call just as much as we do. This shouldn't come as a surprise, as in the wild, birds live in flocks. Loneliness can be a real problem for pet birds, so scientists from Northeastern University wanted to see if video chatting with other birds could improve their quality of life. The results are astounding.

A group of 18 parrots ranging from cockatoos to African grey parrots were trained by their owners to hit a bell when they wished to engage in a call. They were then shown a range of images of different birds in the study and allowed to make up to two five-minute calls during a three-hour window. While treats were used initially to train the birds on the bell, they were not subsequently involved.

Incredibly, the researchers found that strong bonds formed between many of the birds, with the parrots displaying preferences for who they wanted to call. Not only did the researchers observe call-and-response vocalizations similar to behavior in the wild, but many owners saw their birds pick up new skills from their friends. This includes foraging, flying, and even new vocalizations. One owner even commented that they saw their bird come alive during the chats.

The birds were closely monitored by their humans during the calls, who were instructed to end the video if the birds walked away or showed any signs of distress. Though three birds from the initial group dropped out of the study, the remaining 15 had an overall positive experience. In fact, parrot behaviorist and Northeastern researcher Jennifer Cunha says that her Goffin's cockatoo is stillover a year laterchatting with an African grey from the study.

For Rbecca Kleinberger, assistant professor at Northeastern, the study was a wonderful way to improve the quality of life for these animals. She noted that parrots have only been kept as pets for the past one or two generations and are not domesticated in the same way that cats or dogs are. B...

Scientists Discover Useful Plastic-Eating Fungi

This fungus breaks down polypropylene plastic. (Photo: Amira Farzana Samat/University of Sydney)

Our planet has a plastic problem. Accumulated waste and constant production have resulted in mounds of trash around the globe and bobbing in our oceans. Recycling is a good step, but it is limited by the technology's availability and the condition of the plastic in question. With 175 million tonnes (192.9 million tons) of plastic ending up in landfills or as litter per year of the 400 million tonnes (440 million tons) produced around the globe, it is a massive problem that has stumped society for a long time. As scientists endeavor to generate solutions to break down this non-biodegradable trash, a group of researchers at the University of Sydney discovered two common forms of backyard fungi can breakdown polypropylene completely in 140 days.

In a study published in NPJ Materials Degradation, the researchers detailed the results of using Aspergillus terreus and Engyodontium album on polypropylene plastic. The two species of fungi are common forms of mold. The team selected samples of polypropylene, a plastic that makes up to-go containers, plastic film, and other soft plastics. It is rarely recycled and, like other plastics, takes decades to degrade. The plastics were heated and treated with both UV radiation and Fenton's chemical (a reagent).

Next, the plastics were fed to the fungi and allowed to incubate for 90 days. After 90 days, the plastic was 27% degraded. After 140 days, it was completely degraded. Professor Ali Abbas, a paper author, noted to...

Once Shocking, U.S. Spying on Its Allies Draws a Global Shrug "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The last time a trove of leaked documents exposed U.S. spying operations around the world, the reaction from allied governments was swift and severe. In Berlin, thousands of people protested in the streets, the C.I.A. station chief was expelled, and the German chancellor told the American president that "spying on friends is not acceptable." In Paris, the American ambassador was summoned for a dressing-down. That was a decade ago, after an enormous leak of classified documents detailing American surveillance programs by ... Edward Snowden. The latest leak of classified documents that appeared online this year, the motive behind which remains unknown, has again illustrated the broad reach of U.S. spy agencies, including into the capitals of friendly countries such as Egypt, South Korea, Ukraine and the United Arab Emirates. Though the documents mainly focus on the war in Ukraine, they include C.I.A. intelligence briefs describing conversations and plans at senior levels of government in those countries, in several cases attributed to "signals intelligence," or electronic eavesdropping. Unlike in 2013, however, U.S. allies appear to be mostly shrugging off the latest examples of apparent spying. So far, the only evident political fallout from the latest leaks has occurred in South Korea, where one classified U.S. document described a debate among senior national security officials about whether to send artillery shells abroad that might wind up in Ukraine, potentially angering Russia.

Revealed: the terrorist hired by the CIA to catch Carlos the Jackal "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The story of Bruno Brguet, one the most enigmatic figures of the shadowy battle between western security services and international violent extremists during the so-called "golden age of terrorism" in the 1970s and 1980s, has been given a new twist. A new book has revealed that in his later years Brguet served not only the infamous Illich Ramrez Snchez, better known as Carlos the Jackal, but the US government too. Brguet's spying for the CIA earned him tens of thousands of dollars, and contributed to the capture of his erstwhile boss by French secret services in 1994. The news that the CIA was prepared to hire as an agent a man like Brguet, who had been twice convicted by Israel and France for his terrorist activities and is believed to have bombed a pro-democracy radio station in Munich funded by the US government, underlines the moral and ethical questions facing intelligence services when it comes to recruiting such individuals. If anyone in the CIA balked at employing Brguet as an agent, there is no record of their concerns. For the next four years, Brguet appears to have supplied information to the CIA, possibly indirectly contributing key elements to the French intelligence operation that successfully grabbed Carlos from a clinic in Khartoum in 1994. Breguet's final mystery remains unresolved however. In 1995, the veteran extremist turned CIA agent disappeared definitively after boarding a ferry from a Greece to Italy. Was he murdered? Or did he commence a new life under a false identity?

Congress Suddenly Wants to Know If US Taxpayers Were Helping El Chapo "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

After flying under the radar for years, the case of Genaro Garca Luna is finally raising alarms in Congress, with one of the Senate's top Republicans demanding answers about how Mexico's highest-ranking cop was able to partner with DEA and FBI, "at the time that he funneled roughly 103,000 pounds of cocaine into the United States" for the Sinaloa Cartel. Garca Luna became the most senior Mexican law enforcement official ever convicted of narco-corruption when a Brooklyn federal jury delivered a unanimous guilty verdict on a five-count indictment that charged him with taking massive bribes to enable cartel drug smuggling, kidnappings, and murders while he was in office from 2001 to 2012. Garca Luna's position involved close collaboration with U.S. anti-narcotics agencies that operate in Mexico, and it gave him discretion over the spending of hundreds of millions in American tax dollars delivered as security aid. That money was supposed to go toward fighting the cartels, but his trial showed he was leaking sensitive intelligence, protecting drug shipments, and disrupting efforts to capture ... cartel leaders. On Feb. 22, a day after the guilty verdict, Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley sent a letter to the heads of the DEA and FBI asking what the agencies knew about Garca Luna and when, and demanding evidence ... that could shed new light on the relationship. In short, Grassley wants to know if American tax dollars were being sent to Mexico while the DEA and FBI were tolerating Garca Luna's corruption.

The Man Who Knew Exactly What the F.B.I. Was Doing to Martin Luther King Jr. "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

We have long known about the F.B.I. director J. Edgar Hoover's animus toward the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Hoover built an extensive apparatus of surveillance and disruption designed to destroy King. It's time to ... recognize the power structure that supported the F.B.I.'s campaign. Many Americans starting with the president thought movement activists like King posed threats to the established order and needed to be watched and controlled. Members of the press could have exposed the bureau's campaign. And many government officials who could have stopped, curtailed or exposed the F.B.I.'s attack on King instead enabled or encouraged it. F.B.I. records declassified in the past several years and documents from the Johnson archives released in 2022 force us to reconsider the nature of Johnson's involvement in the F.B.I.'s campaign against King. White House documents ... suggest that Johnson, from the beginning of his presidency in 1963 to King's assassination in 1968, was apprised almost weekly by Hoover himself on the F.B.I.'s surveillance of King. Johnson did nothing to stop or rein in the F.B.I., even after at least one top administration official expressed concern. In addition to the president and the media, other officials at the F.B.I. ... worked to ruin King. Scores of ranking officials and agents at the F.B.I., dozens of elected officials and several informants embedded in King's inner circles knew what was going on, and none, as far as the public records indicate, blew a whistle on the campaign.

Note: Few people know about the 1999 King Family civil trial in Memphis, where it took a jury only one hour to find the U.S. government guilty for the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. For more along these lines, see concise summaries of deeply revealing news articles on government corruption and the erosion of civil liberties from reliable major media sources.

Ukraine War Is Shaking Up Global Arms Industry "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) estimates that six countriesthe U.S., Russia, France, China, Germany, and Italywere responsible for 80 percent of global weapons exports from 2018 to 2022. The U.S. alone counted for 40 percent, while Russia was a distant second at 16 percent. Maintaining and growing their market share is a prerogative for countries that export weapons. Turkey has sold many drones to Ukraine, while Iran has sold its own arsenal to Russia. Both Turkey and Iran are aiming to pitch their products as low-cost alternatives to Western manufacturers. Turkey, however, is still in talks to buy Russia's S-400 missile defense system. Its provision of weapons to Ukraine, while it continues to negotiate weapons deals with Russia, demonstrates the complicated nature of the global arms industry. The war in Ukraine continues to underline how integral the arms industry is to geopolitics. China, for example, has not provided weapons to either Ukraine or Russia, but its largest civilian drone maker, DJI, is one of the most important suppliers for their militaries. The U.S. has been criticized in recent years for its weapons exports to Saudi Arabia, which is under fire for human rights abuses and for its conflict in Yemen.  And though claims of Western weapons being smuggled out of Ukraine have often been dismissed, there is concern that many of the weapons sent to the Ukrainian military have or will end up on the black market.

Leaks Reveal Reality Behind U.S. Propaganda in Ukraine "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The U.S. corporate media's first response to the leaking of secret documents about the war in Ukraine was to throw some mud in the water, declare "nothing to see here," and cover it as a depoliticized crime story about a 21-year-old Air National Guardsman who published secret documents to impress his friends. What these documents reveal, however, is that the war is going worse for Ukraine than our political leaders have admitted to us, while going badly for Russia too, so that neither side is likely to break the stalemate this year, and this will lead to "a protracted war beyond 2023," as one of the documents says. We can't help wondering what President Biden's plan could be, or if he even has one. In what amounts to a second leak that the corporate media have studiously ignored, U.S. intelligence sources have told veteran investigative reporter Seymour Hersh that they are asking the same questions, and they describe a "total breakdown" between the White House and the U.S. intelligence community. According to Hersh's report, the CIA assesses that Ukrainian officials, including President Zelenskyy, have embezzled $400 million from money the United States sent Ukraine to buy diesel fuel for its war effort, in a scheme that involves buying cheap, discounted fuel from Russia. Meanwhile, Hersh says, Ukrainian government ministries literally compete with each other to sell weapons paid for by U.S. taxpayers to private arms dealers in Poland, the Czech Republic and around the world.

In Pentagon Leak, The Problem is What's Classified, Not What Gets Out "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

A set of secret national security documents burst into public view last week. The intelligence documents appear to have entered the public domain in an unusual way someone began sharing them, starting late last year, on an obscure Discord server called Thug Shaker Central. The alleged leaker, Jack Teixeira, a member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard, was arrested. It is traditional for the government to exaggerate the alleged harms of classified information becoming public, and this appears to be happening again. The real problem isn't what's leaked, but what's classified. Almost every news story about the latest disclosures has noted that the Pentagon and other government agencies will now put tighter lids on secret documents, even though, as historian Matthew Connelly points out in his new book, "The Declassification Engine," the government already puts way too much material behind its moat. In fact, the human harm caused by unauthorized leaks is almost always inflicted by the government itself in the form of egregious prosecutions of leakers. Although Snowden, [Chelsea] Manning, and, more recently, Reality Winner, revealed secrets that the public had a right to know, the government charged all of them under the draconian Espionage Act. While Snowden sought safety in Russia, Manning served seven years in prison (she was originally sentenced to 35 years), and Winner was sentenced to more than five years for leaking just a single document.

Neoliberalism as the U.S. Empire Declines "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The neoliberal globalizing paradigm is now the old. Economic nationalism is the new. Neoliberal globalization ... celebrated the profits and growth brought to both private and state-owned/operated enterprises around the world. It downplayed or ignored the other sides of globalization: (1) growing income and wealth inequalities; (2) the shift of production from old to new centers of capitalism; and (3) faster growth of output and markets in new centers than old centers. Instead of a mostly private capitalist system (like that of the U.S. or UK) or a mostly state capitalist system (like that of the USSR), places like China and India produced hybrids. Strong national governments presided over coexisting large private and state sectors to maximize economic growth. The days of the U.S. dollar as the supreme global currency are numbered. U.S. supremacy in high-tech industries must already be shared with China's high-tech industries. The U.S. empire's decline raises the question of what comes next. The most interesting possibility and perhaps the likeliest is that China and the entire BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) grouping of nations will undertake the construction and maintenance of a new world economy. The war in Ukraine has already enhanced the prospects of such an outcome by strengthening the BRICS alliance. They have the population, resources, productive capacity, connections, and accumulated solidarity to be a new pole for world economic development.

CIA's War on WikiLeaks Is a Scandal Worthy of Congressional Investigation "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

In 2010, Chelsea Manning shocked the world with leaked documents that exposed abuses and crimes committed by the United States military in Iraq. These revelations also made the publisher of those documents, Julian Assange, and his organization, WikiLeaks, household names. The U.S. government [is] charging Assange a publisher with violating the Espionage Act. Under the Espionage Act, one does not have the ability to make a public interest defense. All prosecutors have to do is show that a whistleblower possessed documents or transferred "national defense information" to a member of the press. Damage has already been done, but the future of journalism is in further jeopardy if the U.S. government holds a trial against Assange, convicts him, and shows the world that it has the final say over who is and is not a journalist. CIA Director Mike Pompeo and other officials sketched plans to target Assange that included poisoning or kidnapping him. This, along with the disruption campaign against WikiLeaks, represented the CIA's all-out war against a dissident media organization. The agency went so far as to redefine the organization as a "non-state hostile intelligence service" to carry out operations that it could never get away with against a group of journalists. It should be the subject of an intense investigation in Congress, and the Justice Department should be dropping the charges after publicly conceding that the CIA's actions mean Assange could never have a fair trial.

Billionaire Space Flight Isn't About Colonization. It's Stoking a New Cold War. "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

The U.S. has not engaged in a defensive war for nearly 80 years, instead destabilizing governments worldwide in Vietnam, the Korean Peninsula, Iraq, Afghanistan, throughout Africa and across Latin America. Although all weapons of mass destruction in space are technically prohibited by the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, it isn't without precedent for major military powers to withdraw from such treaties. In 2019, President Donald Trump diverged from President Barack Obama's promise he would "not weaponize space," and created an official Space Force. Countersurveillance and counter-communications have been central goals of U.S. military space operations since the 1990s, alongside attaining U.S. "full spectrum dominance" of all potential conflict sites including space. Space infrastructure ... increases the risk of global nuclear war by presenting new opportunities for armament and hostility. The government's ability to militarize this technology is strongly related to investment and development in the private sector through companies such as Boeing, SpaceX and Blue Origin. The commercial arm of the military-industrial complex is extending into space. Along with Blue Origin, SpaceX has collaborated with DOD in developing rapid global military cargo delivery systems, which the DOD hopes will make for global military logistics delivery of supplies, weapons and even human soldiers anywhere on earth in under 60 minutes.

Norway helped remake a US prison. Here's what happened. "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Correctional systems throughout much of Scandinavia are guided by a general set of philosophical principles. In Norway, core values of safety, transparency and innovation are considered fundamental to the idea of creating normality in prison, the feeling that life as part of a community continues. Incarcerated people can wear their own clothes, work in jobs that prepare them for employment and cook their own meals. Cells in Norway are also for a single person not multiple people, as in most cases in the U.S. Importantly, correctional officers have at least a two-year, university-level education and are directly involved in rehabilitation and planning for the incarcerated person's re-entry into the world outside of prison. In the U.S., most officers receive just a few weeks of training. Recidivism rates in Scandinavia are low. In Norway ... less than half of people released from prison are rearrested after three years. In Pennsylvania, that figure is closer to 70%. In State Correctional Institution Chester, known as SCI Chester, a medium-security prison located just outside of Philadelphia, a correctional officer-guided team has worked since 2018 to incorporate Scandinavian penal principles into its own institution. Six men in SCI Chester each sentenced to life in prison were selected to participate. They then moved on to the new housing unit, which had come to be known as "Little Scandinavia." SCI Chester shows that it is, in fact, possible to adapt Scandinavian-style penal philosophies.

Inside the Prisoner-led Struggle to Win Education for All "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Washington State prisoners were recently forced to gather in a janitor's closet to organize and facilitate college education for people incarcerated in several prisons across the state. New official restrictions are jeopardizing a liberating, prisoner-led program known as Taking Education And Creating History, or TEACH. TEACH's goal is to democratize education for people with long sentences. Between community support and financial backing outside the correctional system, TEACH successfully circumvented the Department of Corrections, or DOC, policy of excluding long-term prisoners from education. Since 2013, over 300 incarcerated individuals across three state prisons have become college students. Progressively, TEACH began breaking down barriers between various racial and cultural groups contradicting administrative beliefs that the Black Prisoners Caucus would further racial tension. Prisoners who would've never interacted with one another were now sitting at tables thumbing through books, while preparing for exams. When asked how TEACH has impacted the prison environment, Darrell Jackson, co-chair of the TEACH program at Washington Correction Center, said, "It has reduced the violence in prison, while creating a positive educational community for everyone regardless of one's crime, race or affiliation." He added, "Those with lengthy sentences were given a sense of purpose, something that many are stripped of when they enter into prison."

Recovery high schools help kids heal from an addiction and build a future "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"

Every weekday at 5280 High School in Denver starts the same way. Students in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction gather on the steps of the school's indoor auditorium to discuss a topic chosen by staff members. One recent morning, they talked about mental health and sobriety. The students attend Colorado's only recovery high school one of 43 nationwide. These schools are designed for students who are recovering from substance use disorder and might also be dealing with related mental health disorders. Compared with their peers at regular schools who have gone through treatment, recovery high school students have better attendance and are more likely to stay sober, and their graduation rate is at least 21% higher, according to one study. Recovery high schools often weave components of treatment into the school day activities like 5280's daily recovery program meeting. In the afternoon, the school offers wellness electives such as spiritual principles and journaling. The school also employs a director of recovery and recovery coach to work with and counsel the students individually. "The No. 1 step is just letting them know out of the gate, no matter what's going on, that we love them," said Brittany Kitchens, the school's recovery coach. "We are here for them." Kitchens teaches students how to navigate recovery and regulate their emotions. She likens herself to a hall monitor, constantly checking in with students and looking for changes in behavior.

Tips from a Cynical Casanova "IndyWatch Feed Literature"

Ovid, Ars Amatoria I.637-644

Its useful that there be gods, and since thats so, lets think there are:
     Let incense and wine be given to ancient hearths;
Nor does leisure carefree, akin to sleep detain them:
Live free from guilt, for godhead is at hand.
Return deposits; let piety keep its word; let fraud
Be absent; keep your hands free of murder.
Cheat (if you are wise) only girls with impunity:
In this one con game, good faith should be broken.

Expedit esse deos, et, ut expedit, esse putemus;
     Dentur in antiquos tura merumque focos;
Nec secura quies illos similisque sopori

Reddite depositum; pietas sua foedera servet:

How a Photographer Captured Intimate Celebrity Portraits at 2023 BAFTA Awards [Interview]

Celebrity Portraits by Charlie Clift

Austin Butler (Photo: Charlie Clift / BAFTA)

There are few things more exciting in the entertainment industry than awards season. The spirit of the accoladesalong with the anticipation of who will winare reasons to look forward to them each new year. Photography offers us a valuable way to encapsulate their energy and emotion, and a skilled photographer snaps portraits that evoke these qualities while chronicling them for posterity. Renowned portrait photographer Charlie Clift did just that at the BAFTA Awards held on February 19, 2023. His stunning black-and-white images showcase the night in all its spirited glory.

Clifts photographs are expertly composed and highlight the personality of each celebrity subject. With a minimalist backdrop and set-up, the chosen actor shines in an intimate portrait. In some instances, Clift cropped his compositions within the frameas seen in the portrait of Eugene Levy. Other times, he allowed the set to breathe with a full-body shot of the actor interacting with the props, as was the case with Ke Huy Quan.

It makes the images all the more incredible when you learn that these photographs took place in the span of just a couple of minutes backstage. Clift had to not only shine his artistic eye onto the person but also navigate the fast-paced atmosphere and logistics that come with photographing one of the worlds most prestigious award nights.

We spoke with Clift about the 2023 BAFTA Awards and his previous times shooting the show. Scroll down to read My Modern Mets exclusive interview.

These Amazing TV Shows Totally Deserved At Least One More Season "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

It can be hard to understand what all goes into the decision to renew or cancel a television show, and I think viewing numbers are only a part of it. Many shows took a season or two to get going, so we know big numbers up front arent a necessity.

We may never know everything that goes into making that call, but we do know this: plenty of people wish these shows had gotten just one more season.

Pitch perfect.

Venture Bros was easily a solid decade ahead of its time.

The Boys, Invincible, Harley Quinn, Doom Patrol, Peacemaker. All these shows deal with deconstructing the superhero mythos and the Venture Brothers was doing this way back in 2004.

Venture Bros started as a pitch perfect parody of old Hanna-Barbera cartoons and went on to skewer every element of pop culture they could get their hands on whilst maintaining well written, context driven comedy.

It was never cheap, it was well acted and scripted, it grew and evolved and allowed its characters to step outside of the narrow channels they were born in, developing them from single characteristic, classic archetypes into something more complex.

A shame.

Mindhunter on Netflix is the first series I actually got super bummed out about being canceled.

The story, actors, the music. Soundtrack was elite. Almost got lost in the shuffle of everything else being so well done.

It was created by David Fincher and he apparently didnt want to come back and do it.

Shame.

Should never have happened.

Travelers.

That should never have been canceled. They could have taken that so many places. I loved the characters.

I dont usually write to music. Im too susceptible; I find it can give what Im writing a false, unearned resonance, like slipping a poem into Garamond to make it better. But there are two songs that are rhythmic enough, each in their own way, that I sometimes put on a loop when Im revising. Theres something about the cadence and the breath in them that works for me, that creates a kind of chamber that keeps the outside world at bay. And though Ive heard writing about music is like dancing about architecture, (a quote so apt, its attributed to no less than a dozen people), here goes:

Spiegel im Spiegel, 1978Arvo Prt

The piecein English, Mirror in the Mirrorbegins with a simple ascending arpeggio, little triads that subtly alter, reflected back and forth like light on water, a mirror looking into a mirror. The melody stretches over and through the scales, extending like a long breath. The left hand on the piano arrives, eventually and sparingly, to ground the upward yearning, trees reaching toward light from the roots. The work is minimal in its composition, yet never fails to tug me out of my momentary preoccupations into a broader sense of time, drawing me into eternity through the little window of now. There are many beautiful to begin, I think. If you put it on and close your eyes, everything will soon feel softer.

Fleurette Africaine, 1962Duke Ellington

Mingus starts the song with a spiraling, skeletal stuttering on the upright bass, a sleeping animal rousing itself, a little tousled. Its all very organic, the rise and fall of a breathing body. Ellingtons piano wanders in, elegant, stately. Max Roachs drumming is the nes...

<p>On-chain data from Santiment shows the Ethereum shark and whale addresses have registered a growth of 5.7% over the past year.</p> <h2>Ethereum Sharks & Whales Numbers Have Gone Up During The Past Year

According to data from the on-chain analytics firm Santiment, there are now around 380 more sharks and whales in the market compared to 12 months ago.

The relevant indicator here is the <a href= "https://www.newsbtc.com/news/ethereum/ethereum-breaks-1900-sharks-continue-accumulation/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">ETH Supply Distribution</a>, which tells us about the total amount of Ethereum that each wallet group in the sector is currently holding. Addresses are divided into these wallet groups based on the number of coins that they are carrying in their balances right now.</p> <p>The 10-100 coins cohort, for instance, includes all wallets that are holding between 10 and 100 ETH at the moment. Renata Cherlises recently released book, Black Archives: A Photographic Celebration of Black Life, makes clear that Black families have potent stories to tell. Cherlise says in a new Colossal Interview:

Spending time with these scenes of everyday life made me feel connected to my ancestors and inspired me to think about photography as a form of individual and collective history. I became interested in images of the Black experience that I had never seen in mainstream media or textbookspictures that capture the intimacy, beauty, and nuance of our everyday lives.

There are first dates, barbeques, trips to Paris, holidays. There is togetherness, laughter, love. These photos testifythrough changing fashion, hairstyles, automobile models, photo types, and other markers of timethat Black families have always been part of history, and our stories, our celebrations, have always been an integral part of the historical record.

I spoke with Cherlise via e-mail about the origins of her love for family photos, her book project, and why she considers snapshots the most authentic storytelling medium in the written and visual language.

Across his 45-year career, celebrated fashion photographer Rodney Smith took hundreds of thousands of photos. Most of his whimsical and imaginative imagery was shot on a 35mm Leica M4 before he transitioned to using a medium format Hasselblad. Smith's work was already celebrated during his lifetime, but after his passing in 2016, it's only become more clear how strong his contribution was to the history of photography.

His work has now made its way into many public collections, including the Getty Museum. So it's only fitting that their publishing branch, Getty Publications, should tackle a new monograph that examines his prolific photography career. Rodney Smith: A Leap of Faith, includes many never-before-seen photos from the New Yorker, who regularly contributed to Vanity FairW Magazine, and The New Yorker.

With nearly 200 images, the book is an in-depth look at the photographer who has often been compared to Surrealist painter Rene Magritte thanks to his dreamlike compositions. Getty Museum Curator of Photo...

6 Toxic Ingredients Lurking in Your Vitamins "IndyWatch Feed Health"

Multivitamins are commonly taken by millions of people worldwide, with a 2020 study reporting that approximately 66% of Americans use dietary supplements, and multivitamins account for the largest category among these products [1]. However, not all multivitamins are created equal, and the quality of the ingredients and the manufacturing process can significantly impact their efficacy and safety. Sadly, most multivitamins are made with cheap, synthetic ingredients that our bodies cant absorb or dont have enough of the most important nutrients to our health. This means that taking a generic multivitamin is not only ineffective and a waste of money, but it could also even be causing harm. In this article, we will discuss six potentially harmful ingredients commonly found in low-quality multivitamins, the science behind their effects on the human body, and provide alternative recommendations for safer, organic multivitamins from reputable companies.

6 Common Toxic Ingredients found in Multivitamins

  1. Titanium Dioxide

Titanium dioxide is a common additive in many products, including paint, cosmetics, paper, sunscreen, and dietary supplements. It is primarily used as a filler to whiten products and has no actual nutrient value [2]. Although the FDA has approved the use of titanium dioxide in very small amounts (less than 1 percent of the formulation) [3], health advocates have raised concerns about its potential side effects. These include allergies, stomach cancer, autoimmune disorders, and organ toxicity [4]. The International Agency for Research on Cancer has also classified titanium dioxide as possibly carcinogenic to humans when inhaled as dust [5].

  1. Magnesium Silicate

Magnesium silicate, also known as talc, is an additive commonly found in deodorants, cosmetics, and dietary supplements [6]. Its composition is similar to asbestos, and it is not currently considered food-grade by the FDA [7]. Research has linked talc exposure to lung problems and stomach diseases [8].

  1. Hydrogenated Oil

Hydrogenated oil is a filler derived from genetically-modified (non-organic) soybeans and is present in some dietary supplements [9]. It has been linked to cardiovascular problems, diabetes, nervous system problems, and non-absorption of essential fatty acids [10]. Hydrogenated oil increases low-density lipoprotein (LDL or bad cholesterol) levels and decreases high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels, leading to coronary heart disease (CHD) [11]. In 2010, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans called for limiting consumption of hydrogenated oil, trans fat, and solid fat [12].

Shiba Inu Price Sluggish: Is It A Good Time To Invest Or Cut Losses? "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

Shiba Inu (SHIB) kicked off the year aggressively as it rallied alongside other meme coins. However, as the year progresses, Shiba Inu has experienced a downward trend leaving investors wondering: should they hold or sell?

Shiba Inu coins value on Coingecko is currently at $0.00001027, experiencing a decrease of 3.4% over the last seven days and a more significant slump of 7.8% over the past two weeks.

The question on every investors mind now is: what move should they make next with the meme coin?

Key Levels To Watch For Shiba Inu

For traders and investors who want to get a clear grasp of SHIBs price trajectory, its important to remember that there are two key levels to consider: the support level and the resistance level. The support level is currently set at $0.0000095.

Alternately, the resistance level, which is now at $0.00001 at the time of writing, signifies the price at which sellers are expected to enter the market and sell their SHIB holdings, hence exerting downward pressure on the price of the meme coin.

The price of SHIB may signify a negative signal and cause traders to sell if it breaks through the support level. On the other hand, if the price rises over the $0.00001 resistance level, it can be a bullish indicator that buyers are flooding the market and pushing the price higher.

As such, keeping a close eye on these key levels can help traders make informed decisions when buying or selling SHIB.

SHIBs Growing Community, Shibarium Devt Could Make It A Good Buy

Shiba Inu could be an attractive buy this month because of several reasons. For one, its community is rapidly expanding with many supporters believing in the projects long-term potential.

Additionally, the Shiba Inu team has been diligently working on a decentralized ecosystem that includes a non-fungible token (NFT) platform, a decentralized exchange, to mention a few.

The Shiba Inu communitys enthusiasm for Shibarium has been apparent in recent posts on the Telegram group Shibarium Tech.

Bitcoin Holds At $29,300 As PCE Comes Out Neutral "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

<p>With todays release of the Personal Consumption Expenditure (PCE) price index by the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the Bitcoin market just experienced the most important macro event of the week. Ahead of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) of the US Federal Reserve (Fed) on May 2-3, all eyes were on the PCE today.</p> <p>The latter is known as the Feds favorite inflation gauge. (versus CPI). It measures prices paid by consumers for domestic purchases of goods and services and excludes food and energy.</p> <p>The baseline was as follows: Februarys core PCE index was +0.3% on a monthly basis, below the forecast of +0.4%. For March, analysts expected an increase of +0.3%. On an annualized (YoY) basis, an increase of 4.5% was expected, a slight drop from the previous months 4.6%.</p> <p>Hitting expectations or any positive surprises were expected to be bullish for the Bitcoin market. Renowned analyst Ted (@tedtalksmacro) <a href= "https://twitter.com/tedtalksmacro/status/1651895148421193730" rel= "noopener nofollow" target="_blank">stated</a> up front: Bulls want to continue seeing it trend south! and added the chances for a bullish surprise were good: CPI + PPI prints earlier in the month, at least for now, suggests that the path of least resistance is for lower inflation numbers.</p> <h2>PCE Slightly Impacts Bitcoin Price</h2> <p>These expectations were not met. As reported by the Bureau of Economic Analysis, core PCE came in at 0.3% on a monthly basis, as expected. On an annual basis, core PCE fell to 4.6%, also delivering the expected number.</p> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"> <p dir="ltr" lang="en">BREAKING: US PCE data is out!</p> <p>Headline y/y 4.2% vs 4.1% expectation</p> <p>Headline m/m 0.1% vs 0.1% expectation</p> <p>Core y/y 4.6% vs 4.58% expectation</p> <p>Core m/m 0.3% vs 0.3% expectation</p> <p> Markets & Mayhem (@Mayhem4Markets) April 28, 2023

Bitcoin price reacted in line with expectations. At the time of writing, BTC was sticking to the price level around $29,300.

The big question, however, will be whether progress in fighting inflation is enough for Fed Chairman Jerome Powell. In a phone prank with a fake Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy yesterday, Powell acknowledged that there are at least two more rate hikes coming, followed by a long period of high interest rates with significant negative effects on the US economy and the US labor market.

Powell also stated that a recession in the United States is likely. This is what it takes to get inflation down. By cooling off the economy and cooling off the labor market inflation comes down. We dont know of any painless way for inflation to come down.</p> .....

Architectonic Photographs by Charles Brooks Illuminate the Atmospheric Interiors of Historic Instruments "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

A pipe organ soars like a skyscraper-lined boulevard and a Steinway pianos action mechanism transforms into a sun-speckled tunnel in atmospheric photographs by Charles Brooks (previously). His ongoing Architecture in Music series highlights the inner structures of renowned instruments, imbuing the interiors with airy light. Bringing the camera inside a variety of string, brass, keyboard, and woodwind instruments, he offers unique insight into rarely seen textures, details, and patinas. He angles the camera from a low viewpoint, mimicking the perspective of standing in a grand space and looking up at architectural details like columns or skylights.

Brooks has played cello for most of his life and for two decades, performed in orchestras around the world, fueling his curiosity about how instruments are made and who built or played them. Unless youre a luthier, its unlikely you would ever see the inside of a violin, so the photographer wanted to highlight the precision and individuality of a wide variety of examples. What are Crypto Online Casinos?

Source: footballexpress.in

Cryptocurrency online casinos are sites that allow you to make payments with digital currencies, and these casinos have been gaining a lot of popularity in the last couple of years as they offer plenty of advantages that you dont always get when playing at classic online casino sites, which well look at in the next section. Naturally, crypto online casinos will still offer all of the games youd normally find at a casino site; the only difference here is that you can play these titles using digital currency.

Advantages of using Cryptocurrency Casinos

There are many players out there who enjoy making payments at online casino sites with cryptocurrency, and one of the main reasons for this is that this currency allows you to make deposits and request withdrawals at online sites without having to input any of your personal information. This makes it one of the most anonymous ways to make transactions at online sites, which is very attractive to many players.

Bitcoin Magazines Ordinal Auction Raises Questions About What Bitcoin Is Really For "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

This publications decision to auction off its magazine covers as Ordinal inscriptions sparked debate about how we should use Bitcoin.

This is an opinion editorial by Nozomi Hayase, Ph.D., who has a background in psychology and human development.

On April 15, 2023, Bitcoin Magazine conducted its first-ever Ordinal inscriptions auction, putting its historic covers collection on sale. Some were excited by this new experimentation, which sought to provide buyers with a trust-minimizing experience, while others were not so happy.

David Bailey, the CEO of BTC Inc, the parent company of Bitcoin Magazine, tweeted that the worlds first Bitcoin-only magazine received harsh reaction from the Bitcoin community.

Francis Pouliot, the founder of non-custodial, bitcoin-only exchange and payments service Bull Bitcoin, underscored the criticisms in a reply to that tweet:

The Ordinal Controversy

Ordinals were proposed in 2022 by developer Casey Rodarmor. Launched on Bitcoins mainnet on January 21, 2023, it is a protocol that creates an inscription whereby sats (short for satoshis, the lowest denomination of a bitcoin) can be inscribed with arbitrary data. This can include JPEG files, clips and even video games.

But the introduction of the Ordinal protocol has stirred up a controversy which has divided the Bitcoin community. While some have shown favor for the prospect of inscribing collectibles on the chain permanently assisting the flourishing of the arts in the Bitcoin space, creating monetary demand for Bitcoin blockspace, incentivizing miners and more others have expressed concerns about storing that data directl...

In recent trading sessions, the price of Litecoin has remained stagnant below a significant resistance level while Bitcoin has experienced consistent fluctuations. Although Litecoin showed a slight increase of 2% in the last 24 hours, it lost 1% over the week, indicating consolidation.

The altcoins technical outlook suggests a potential bearish takeover, as demand and accumulation for the altcoin have both declined. The crucial overhead resistance level of Litecoin has been a barrier that the coin has failed to surpass previously. In the event of another rejection over the coming trading sessions, bears could successfully take over.

As Bitcoin approaches the $30,000 mark, major altcoins are following a similar price trend. If BTC successfully crosses this resistance level, Litecoin could experience a rally. However, the market capitalization of LTC has decreased in the last 24 hours, indicating a decline in buying strength.

Litecoin Price Analysis: One-Day Chart

Litecoin

At the time of writing, LTC was trading at $89.58, and the overhead resistance level was at $90, which the coin has attempted to break through over the past few weeks. If LTC manages to surpass this level, it could potentially trade near the $100 mark.

However, for a recovery on the chart to occur, selling pressure needs to decrease. On the flip side, if LTC falls from the $89 mark, it could reach $88. Failing to stay above that level could drag the price down to $84. The last trading session showed a red volume of LTC traded, indicating that sellers were dominating the market.

That said, people looking for new jobs need to be aware of what red flags might show up from the other end, too, because no one wants to spend all of those hours applying and interviewing only to end up somewhere they dont want to be.

These people are coming through with some things that would make them 100% rethink accepting an offer.

Can you give me a list?

My favorite is theres a lot of people waiting in line to work here, count yourself lucky. Huge red flag

I used to think well, I need a job and let myself think it was sweet that I was being given the chance, but I have a great work ethic so I always become the man ( supervisors seem to love that term). Well, Ive learned that when they say that they mean they are going to heap a lot more work and responsibility on you than your coworkers.

So, now I go into interviews with the attitude that I can always find another job, so I judge the company now.

Without skipping a beat.

I always ask about training and learning curves. Every job Ive had that went wrong- I notice that when that question came up they stumbled.

The current job I have, when I asked the question they had sparks in their eyes as they explained the whole process from day 1 of shadowing to the transition to working solo.

And even when covid hit they managed to continue without skipping a beat.

Nope.

When they ask out of nowhere what clients can you bring with you.

I interviewed with MetLife insurance abou...
